100 Pennies Drive tops $6,000 mark

The Suroviks were blessed with six children: Annie, Theodore, Adele, Agnes, Frank and Edward. A loving mother, Sister Albina was also a devoted spouse and workmate in the family farming operation. "Mamma worked right along side of daddy out in the fields raising cotton and corn," recalls her oldest daughter Annie Daniels of Caldwell. "And when the work was done outside, she would take care of all her inside chores. I can remember many nights of mamma washing clothes on the old washboard. The only light she had came from a kerosene lantern. She was thoroughly devoted to her family." "And, oh how she could sew," Annie continues. "She made everything for us — from daddy's shirts to Sunday dresses and my little brothers' suits. And she did it all with the material from flour and feed sacks." Sister Albina also loved cooking and tending to the family garden. "She was a wonderful cook," states Annie, "I espeSPJST District One Director Andrew Vavra, far left, presents Age 96 certificate to Sister Albina Surovik, seated, at a ceremony held October 24 at the University Hills Nursing Home in Bryan.

He was later employed by the Crimpomatic Mill and Equipment Company of Bryan. Since 1981, Sister Albina has been a resident of the University Hills Nursing Home in Bryan, Texas. Brother Frank, who shared an apartment at the facility with Sister Albina, passed away in 1992. A religious woman, Sister Albina enjoys receiving visits these days from her 16 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. The family of Sister Surovik gathered at the home on October 24, 1995 for the presentation of her SPJST Age 96 certificate. District One Director Andrew Vavra made the presentation.
