The time is right for getting involved ..

100 Pennies Scholarship Drive $12,000 That's the Goal!

100 Pennies Drive kicks off October 1 When you're in school and trying to make ends meet, every little bit counts. Every little bit of time and every little bit of money. Taking that into consideration, the SPJST encourages members and friends of the Society to be active participants and help support the 1995 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive. "The Scholarship Program, which has been in effect since 1982, is meant to encourage young members to further their education and to help them achieve career goals,' says Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar. Funded by the SPJST and voluntary contributions by SPJST members, the Scholarship Program is administered by the SPJST Supreme Lodge. The program is coordinated by Barbara Wright, executive assistant to the president. Annually, the Supreme Lodge contributes $25,000 to the fund. Additional money is collected through the "100 Pennies Scholarship Drive" and the "Memorial Scholarship Fund." In 1995, SPJST awarded 91 $500 scholarships to students attending accredited colleges and technical training institutes. "Every penny that you contribute goes into the Scholarship Fund," says Brother Frank Klinkovsky, State Fraternal

Activities Coordinator, who oversees the 100 Pennies Drive. "Your donation of $1 or more will help enable many of our younger members achieve a higher education," he adds. In 1995, the goal of the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive is to raise $12,000. As in previous years, the progress of the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive will be posted at regular intervals in The the Vesinik. names of all donors will also be published. Amounts donated will not be included. In addition to individual contributions, Brother Klinkovsky encourages local lodges and youth clubs to join in the fund raising effort. "On behalf of the many young people who will benefit from this program, we want to say thank you for your generous past support and for your continued support," he says. Members of lodge groups wanting to contribute to either the "100 Pennies Scholarship Drive" or to the "SPJST Memorial Scholarship Fund" may do so by completing the form on page three of this issue. For additional information, please contact Brother Klinkovsky at 1 (800) 72-

WEEKEND

or ,LIGHT .

"Fraternal societies should find a natural alignment with efforts like Make a Difference Day," he said. "Working together, we can change lives by changing the culture that people live." Make a Difference Day exists to encourage Americans to help one another. Most important is the reward of helping, Goodwin explained. At the same time, USA Today recognizes that it is through examples that we can inspire others. That's why USA WEEKEND devotes a special issue to recognizing efforts that capture the spirit of giving. Again, this year, 10 national honorees will be recognized. They and 50 national honorees will share an award pool of $120,000 to help them continue their good works.
