Membership Drive Underway • Spread the Word

Institute Requests Artifacts

By now, most Vestnik readers and active lodge members know that we are two weeks into "Summer Marathon '95," our summer membership drive. Your coupon for recommending new members appears on page 14 of this week's Vestnik.

"Recruiters" will be pictured in the Vestnik and be eligible to participate in a drawing for cash prizes. Your lodge will also be eligible to win cash prizes based on the number of new members obtained during the drive which runs through October. Complete details of the program have been mailed to local lodges and will be appearing over the the next few weeks in the Vestnik.

For our SPJST to attract new members, we must constantly strive at all levels to ensure that our superior product quality and member service.

If the quality is there, growth will follow.

In order to achieve this objective, the participation process must be encouraged at all levels of the Society. Everyone involved needs to have the opportunity to contribute to the mix. On the lodge level, for instance, the most successful units are those where the members are comfortable to express themselves freely. Channels of communication must remain open for members to pass on information, bring up new ideas, and make suggestions. This underscores the importance of our attendance and participation in regular lodge meetings.

Building membership takes initiative.

We must focus on meeting the needs of our members, adapt to their changing priorities and look for ways to bring value to their membership in the Society. A good example of this kind of initiative is seen in the SPJST sales representative who systematically contacts his or her lodge members and prospects and then sits down with them to review their existing insurance coverage and evaluate their current needs. In doing so, the sales representative performs a valuable service.

Summer Marathon '95 provides a special opportunity for us to help our volunteer sales force. We can begin by talking up the many positives of the life insurance products available through the SPJST. The extraordinary value of life insurance is a story that is seldom told.

At the same time, we can communicate with others, news of what our local lodges are doing to improve life in our communities. Through these kinds of discussions, we can help attract new members to our fraternal order.

As previously stated here, The Institute of Texan Cultures requests the help of interested individuals and organizations in upgrading and improving its Czech life exhibit. The Institute is a university educational center in San Antonio that is dedicated to the enhancement of historical and multicultural understanding through exhibits, programs, and publications.

More than 93,000 students from 100 countries visited the Institute in 1994.

Laurie Gudzikowski, Programs Coordinator at the Institute, has stated that she would like to see a greater emphasis on children and family life activities in the displays.

She suggests and is requesting the use of Czech Texan children's clothing, toys, photographs, books, furniture, etc. The Institute is presently compiling a written listing and description of all items available for loan to the Institute . Interested parties to promptly contact the Institute with any questions or contributions they may wish to make. Photographs of larger items would be helpful. All items should be homemade and will be returned to the loaner after approximately two years.

All Texans of Czech extraction are being urged to respond so that others will have a greater understanding and appreciation of the Czech heritage. Statewide Contests Fast Approaching

Where does the time go? If you haven't already done so, make plans to be in and around Temple, Saturday and Sunday, August 5 and 6 for the Annual SPJST State Royalty Competition and State Youth Achievement Day (YAD).

State Royalty competition will be on Saturday, August 5, at SPJST Lodge 24, Cyclone with YAD scheduled for the following day at the Mayborn Convention Center in Temple. For those coming from out of town, travel information is included on page 12.

In line with these contests, several districts host their Youth Achievement Days this weekend. They include: District Four, Saturday, July 15 in San Angelo; District Five, Sunday, July 16 in Houston; and District Six, Sunday, July 16 in Halletsville.

To the Editor: Just wanted to let you know the trip to the museum is really something to remember. There is so much to see and enjoy at the museum. I'd love to just spend a day browsing at all the things that were so important to our forefathers and mothers to make a living for themselves and their family. It is difficult to imagine the things that they had to do to live and survive.

I still have some of the things like those on display. My father-in-law made some of the wire baskets for corn shucks.

Another thing is the water cooler and bucket with the faucet dripping on the cloth to keep milk, butter and left overs cool. I drew many buckets of water with oaken-buckets and used the cedar water bucket and dipper to drink from.

Lodge 29, Taylor Hosts Annual May Fete Festival

Dear Readers, As Fraternal Activities Coordinator of Lodge 6, Cottonwood, I want to invite everyone to our lodge's annual picnic which will be held Sunday, July 16, 1995.

I also want to let all the workers know that help will be needed on Saturday, July 15 starting at 9 a.m. We have to prepare lots of items for Sunday. Then, on Sunday, all the workers need to come out and help prepare the meal and serve the meal. There is plenty of work for everyone at meal time, auction time, and at the games.

We hope to see all of you for another successful picnic.

SPJST Lodge 29, Taylor held its annual May Fete on Sunday, May 7 with the crowning of the queen at 3:30 p.m. The grand march began at 6 p.m. and the dance continued until 10 p.m. with music

by Sterling Country.

The day's festivities began at noon with a barbecue dinner. Other activities included a horseshoe tournament, silent auction, cake walk andfish pond.

Terrie Preusse was the 1995 May Queen. She is the daughter of Laura and Gary Preusse of Thrall. Her king was Scott Stolle, son of Katherin and Jack Stolle of Thrall.

Jennifer Winkler was the 1995 SPJST Queen. She is the daughter of Toni Winkler of Taylor. Her king was Kyle Maruska, son of Barbara and John Maruska of Taylor.

The May Princess was Becky Preusse, daughter of Laura and Gary Preusse. Her prince was Aaron Stolle, son of Diane and Justin Stolle.

Alma McNaspy has been in the hospital.

Ima Leno fell and is in M.W. Memorial Hospital. Also, Martha Walla is having tests run. Mary Johnson is in the rest home for awhile. Rita Alexander lost her brother and Carl Linderman's brother also passed away.

Birthday Sisters had lunch at the Golden Harvest Buffet on Wednesday, June 21. Hope everyone could attend.

Lodge 80, Holland Presents Scholarship Lodge 80 President Harold Rohde presents Amy Martinets, daughter of Allen and Joyce Martinets, with an SPJST scholarship at the June lodge meeting. Amy plans to attend Southwest Texas State University to major in a nutritionrelated field.

Next month in July we will be having a covered dish with barbecue. Ladies bringing cakes on the first Wednesday are Delores Condon, Margaret Bohac, Josephine Buri, Bessie Lero, and Bess Witovec. Ladies bringing cakes on the second Wednesday are Rita Alexander, Margie Anders, Helen Hegwood, Adella Kite, and Evelyn Mikeska.

Our calcutta winners were Margaret Spahr and Josephine Buri.

Alma McNaspy and Inez Jeans were celebrating birthdays.

We had a note from Frances Dvorak, who celebrated her 95th birthday. She treasures the cards and letters she receives from her long-time friends at Lodge 88, Houston. She still crochets lap robes for people who may need them. She watches television and she likes shows like "Wheel of Fortune," "Murder, She Wrote," "Matlock," "Lawrence Welk," and quiz shows. Great-grandma is still a big hit with all her grandchildren and most still want to see and talk with her when they visit. She just loves them. It's great to hear from her. It has been five years since she left Houston.

Pearl Hanka gave our prayer. The meeting was then adjourned.

Lodge 84, Dallas Reports on June Meeting Dear Members, Our June meeting began with the Pledge of Allegiance led by Sister Wanda Petr. President Justine Yeager then welcomed our visitor, Brother Jerry Kucera, to our meeting last Monday.

Correspondence included a letter of thanks from the families of Brother John Retchek, Sister Bessie Rearnes, and Brother Paul Hagar—all members we lost during the past month. We also received a U.S. savings bond in memory of Charles and Sister Dorothy Prasifka to be on our list of donated items as prizes during our Czech Fest. The bond is from the family of Ray Prasifka of Shreveport, Louisiana.

Ben Jarma of the Sunshine Committee reported that a get-well card had been sent to Brother John Jones and a sympathy card had been sent to William Pecena, Jr. and family on the loss of their mother.

The House Committee report was presented by Brother Adolph Salac. He stated that he will contact a roofer to check the roof again. He took care of some electrical lines and thanked Brother

Randy and Sister Rose Scott for trimming the trees.

Brother Emil Petr gave the report on hall rentals. He also acknowledged our visitor and had some kind words on his behalf.

Brother Kucera gave an informative talk about the latest insurance available. It was determined that Lodge 84 is in need of a salesman or two. Are you interested?

The Dallas-Ennis Fraternal picnic was enjoyed by .a happy group with plenty of good food and fraternalism. Sister Wanda Petr reported that the next meeting will be in September in Ennis.

Youth Leader Bessie Petr reported that the young people were working on projects being entered for the District Three Youth Achievement Day at SPJST Lodge 92, Fort Worth.

Leader-in-Training (LIT) camp was held at Camp Butman last week. The youth are looking forward to district camp. Don't forget the spaghetti dinner as well as the princess ball on July 15.

Are you going to Bossier City on the bus? The bus leaves SPJST Lodge 84 at 6 a.m. Then it leaves Bossier City at 6:30 p.m. to arrive back to the parking area at the lodge by 9:30 p.m. Well, not to worry about being slightly after dark because a security guard will be watching for your arrival from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. as well as checking the parking area.

Brother Sid and Justine Pokladnik have invited everyone to enjoy the day of August 3 at their Cedar Creek lake house for a barbecue dinner with all the trimmings. Boy, that should be just the thing to do before school starts — relaxing and all that good stuff. You can arrive at 10 a.m. We will furnish a map and more information in the Vestnik, so don't worry

about getting there. Everyone is looking forward to a lively Sunday.

Sister Evelyn Salac reported on the Special Committee. As usual, the money and time sure helps the committee. Sister Faye Rejcek had the report on members who had sent in dues and donations for the past year. The Vanek Band certainly kept folks on the dance floor at the last dance. Have you heard Steve Cerny play the accordion? He has so much talent, and by the way, Steve's uncle is Brother Lada Cerny who had the Czech radio hour for the enjoyment of all. We miss the hour as well as Lada very much.

Well, fear not, there will be good accordion sounds on August 5. Alpine Village Band will see to that! August 19 brings the Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six Plus Two and they will keep you dancing all night. It's the Czech Harvestors (need I say more) playing here on September 16, followed on Sunday by our Czech Fest. Don't miss it!

Our next lodge meeting is July 17.

Lodge Rozkvet, No. 172, Pasadena Reports on June Meeting Dear Members, The June meeting of Lodge 172 was held Wednesday, June 28 at 7:30 p.m. with 63 members and guests present.

Prior to our meeting, a covered dish dinner was enjoyed at 6:30 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by District Five Vice President Fred Buri and a moment of silence was observed to our deceased members. Roll call indicated the absence of Secretary Lillie Mae Peter and Historian Victor Peter, due to their trip to Washington, D.C. where the Czech Festival is being held.

All trustees were present except J.V. Thomas.

Correspondence was acknowledged and read to members.

The following reports were presented

to the membership: treasurer's report by Tinnie Walla; financial secretary's report

by Louise Willis; the bar and kitchen report, rental report and sick report by Louise Willis; and the entertainment report by Helen Wallace.

The minutes of our executive meeting and last monthly meeting were read and accepted.

Dottie Watkins presented the youth club report.

Guests in attendance were District Five Director Louis Hanus, District Five President Evelyn Mikeska, District Five Vice President Fred Buri and wife Jo Ann and District Five Sales Manager Helen Hegwood. Each gave a report on their activities and we wish to welcome them back again.

The membership voted to give a donation to Lodge 196. It was accepted by their treasurer Evelyn Mikeska with a grateful "thank you". We at Lodge 172 wish to congratulate Lodge 196 on their desire to have their own lodge home and we wish them the best.

Czech Educational Foundation of Texas Honors Donor Members Donor members of the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas (CEFT) were honored earlier this year with the presentation of plaques and certificates of appreciation. The presentations were made on the Texas A&M University campus in College Station, Texas.

The CEFT foundation strives to preserve the Czech language and culture.

Its efforts are made possible through monetary contributions of groups and individuals. Up until 1993, the donations helped fund the Texas Chair in Czech Studies at the University of Texas.

According to an agreement concluded in December 1994 between the Texas A&M University Development Foundation and the CEFT, graduate students studying American literature at two universities in the Czech Republic may soon be transferring to Texas A&M to complete their M.A. and Ph. D degrees. In addition to their studies, CEFT Fellows at A&M will be required to perform duties such as

teaching lessons in the Czech language and culture that will be open to the public, acting as consultants to CzechAmerican organizations in the area and offering Czech-to-English translation services.

Contributions to support the CEFT Fellowship at Texas A&M can be made to either the CEFT or the Texas A&M University Development Foundation, both of which are non-profit organizations. Checks made payable to the Development Foundation should be clearly identified as intended for the CEFT Fellowship. Brother Alvin and Sister Evelyn Sefcik on their 54th wedding anniversary. We wish them many more happy years together. This couple is a very wonderful influence to our members.

Bobbie Johnson, our "ball of fire" at Lodge 172, is compiling a list of people to make a trip to the casino of Louisiana on July 19. So if you and your friends are interested, you might get on the list.

Believe it or not, but good news is that we have no report of any members on the sick list. Keep this up!

Prior to our business meeting, Dr. Dixie Melillo and her group presented Lodge 172 with a plaque and letter of thanks for our assistance to the Rose Benefit held at our lodge on June 4. They were able to realize a profit donation of over $22,000.

This was the sixth benefit we were involved in with the Rose Foundation and brings the total amount to more than $100,000 for a very good cause.

The Lodge 172 youth club's new officers for the coming year were installed by District Five Director Louis Hanus. At a later date, we hope to have a picture in the Vestnik.

The lodge scholarship awards were presented to Stacey Dressler, Kelly Hralina, and Misty Setliff.

Our next work party day will be August 7 and the next meeting for members is July 26. So please attend. The attendance prize was won by Irving Theiss.

182, Falls County Visits SPJST Museum Lodge

The members of SPJST Lodge 182, Falls County met at the Lott Fire Department and journeyed to the SPJST Museum in Temple on June 25.

At the SPJST Museum, we were welcomed by State Fraternal Activities Coordinator Frank Klinkovsky and Museum Curator Dorothy Pechal to tour the beautiful museum of memories of our forefathers and mothers.

As a senior, I enjoyed seeing some of the items that our parents and grandparents used at home and on the farm years ago. I remembered using many of the items like those that were on display. The old wooden water buckets, for example, brought back memories. They were used

to draw water from the well for both home and farm use. An old cedar drinking water bucket and dipper reserved for home use was also on display.

Some of the many other interesting items on display included a one-horse carriage and the old-time doctor's exhibit, which included his medical bag, a wheelchair, an examination chair and other medical supplies.

We also saw many houshold items from the past, including a wood-burning cook stove, irons to press clothes, butter churns and molds, milk separators, and water coolers, commonly called milk coolers (I still have one).

The collection goes on and on: the first car telephone, blacksmith tools, the windmill, books, old war memorabilia of guns, uniforms and pictures, clothes of yesteryear, and one of the first hand-operated washing machines.. We also saw handmade Czech wooden puppets, like Punch and Judy. (I can remember my dad speaking of them.)

And that's not all. The museum also included a display of dolls— many which are handmade, wooden models, clocks, watches, a small log cabin, handmade wire baskets and a wide range of farmrelated equipment and tools.

Handmade quilts were also on display.

On was made to look like the map of Texas and featured every county by name. There was also another older quilt that included the names of all of the families who went to a particular church.

That was quite interesting in that some of our kinfolks' names were included.

There were so much that it is difficult to remember everything. You'll just have to take a tour and enjoy it for yourself.

After the tour, we relaxed in the refreshment room. Mr. Frank spoke to us about the cost of literature and other things the SPJST supplies. We also spoke about upcooming district meetings and activities.

After saying "good-bye and thank you" to the host and hostess, we traveled to a nearby park for a picnic meal and business meeting.

By Margaret Ann Zipp Senior District Judge Tom McDonald of Bryan, a member of SPJST Lodge 189, Bryan - College Station, is the 1995 trial judge recipient of the Texas Bar Foundation Samuel Pessarra Outstanding Jurist Award.

McDonald was honored at the Texas Bar Foundation Fellows' awards dinner, held on May 31 during the State Bar annual meeting in San Antonio.

A plaque will be presented to McDonald during the Judicial Section's annual conference, to be held in September, and a $1,000 contribution will be made in his name to a scholarship fund at the University of Texas School of Law Center of Public Policy.

A 1966 graduate of the University of

Texas School of Law, McDonald served as the 85th District judge for Brazos County from 1978-1990. In 1991, he became a senior district judge, accepting special assignments around the state and serving as a mediator and arbitrator with a nationwide alternative dispute resolution provider.

The Texas Bar Foundation is a nonprofit corporation that seeks to improve the legal system and the administration of justice through financial support of law-related education and charitable activities.

196, Houston Northwest Reports on Ground-Breaking Lodge

June 11, 1995, was a very exciting day for Lodge 196, Houston Northwest as we held our meeting on the grounds of our future home and had our ground-breaking ceremony. We were blessed with an exceptional cool front that moved through the night before helping to make the outing even more enjoyable.

Refer a fiend for membership in the SPJST! We were happy to have our district director and youth leader as well as several others visiting.

We were presented with two checks to help finance furnishing for our new building. One check was received from the district youth leader and another from the Lodge 172, Pasadena Youth Club.

We wish to thank you for your help and invite you to come visit us as soon as our doors are open.

We added two new members to our lodge and we welcome them both.

The building contractor surprised us by dropping by and gave us information on our building and answered any questions our new members had.

Following the meeting, we had an oldfashioned picnic dinner which was enjoyed by all. Also lots of good fellowship was enjoyed.

Our next meeting will be August 27, 1995, at 17810 Hoffmeister Road. More information on this meeting will follow.

Memoriam In Memory of Felix Joe Pavlicek, Sr. Felix Joe Pavlicek, Sr., 83, of Taylor, died Tuesday, June 6, 1995, in Austin.

Born on December 11, 1911, in Coupland, Texas, the son of Ignaac Pavlicek and Mary Holubec, he had lived in the area all of his life. On October 8, 1941, he was married to Dorothy Hill. A retired carpenter, Mr. Pavlicek was a member of the SPJST lodge and the Taylor Brethren Church since 1912.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Hill Pavlicek on April 28, 1968, and two brothers, Julius and Clarence.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Krueger of Lake Jackson; one son, Felix (Buster) Pavlicek, Jr. of Coupland; one granddaughter, Kasey Krueger; and a sister, Elsie Wemli of Taylor.

Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 1995, at Condra Memorial Chapel with the Rev. James Heil and the Rev. Dan Marek officiating. Interment was in Taylor City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Marvin Holubec, Jody Holubec, Alvin Holubec, Lance Pavlicek, Shane Pavlicek, and Keith Bachrnayer.

Condra Funeral Home in Taylor was in charge of arrangements.

Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Chapter 9, Fort Worth to Meet July 16 Dear Members, The next meeting of the Slavonic Mutual Fire Insurance Association, Chapter No. 9 will he on July 16 at the Sokol Hall, located at 6500 Boot Club Road at 2 p.m.

Officers' reports and business that has been acted on since the last meeting will be presented. The president and secretary have been very busy with all the hail damage that the members sustained during the spring. We are thankful that is behind us.

The meal after the meeting will be furnished by the local chapter and as usual, the ladies are asked to please bring pastries to be served with the meal.

Remember, three $25 door prizes will be given, but you must be present and have an up-to-date policy to be a winner.

Our congratulations to Brother and Sister McMillen on their 60th anniversary. They celebrated on June 25 with a dinner and dance at the National Hall.

Expression of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge 201, Bleiblerville-Nelsonville and the entire membership, wish to express our sympathy to the families of our departed brother, JOHNNIE SYPTAK, who died on May 4, 1995, in Brenham at the age of 81 years.

Services were held on May 7, 1995, from the Nelsonville Brethren Church in Nelsonville with Rev. Mike Groseclose officiating. Interment was in the National Cemetery of Nelsonville.

Born on April 24, 1914, in Nelsonville to John and Frances (Shupak) Syptak, he was raised in Nelsonville and attended Santa Anna School.

On September 11, 1934, he was united in marriage with Valasta Macat.

Johnnie was a farmer and rancher and belonged to the SPJST Lodge 201, Nelsonville Brethren Church, Woodsmen of the World, and the Hermann Sons Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Valasta (Macat) Syptak of Nelsonville; daughter, Deloris Little of Houston; daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Everett Wright of Columbus; sons and daughters-in-law, Delvin and Joyce Syptak, and Johnnie, Jr. and Shirley Syptak, all of Nelsonville; six grandchildren; and one sister, Olga Sumrow of Louisiana.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and three sisters.

Funeral services were under the direction of Knesek Brothers/Etlinger Funeral Chapel of Bellville.

He died Wednesday, June 21, 1995, at his residence following an illness.

We, the undersigned Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge 88, Houston, Texas, and on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed member, ABNER W. DIXON, who passed away on June 29, 1995, at the age of 86 years.

In addition to being a longtime member of our Lodge 88, he served in the United States Navy during World War Two. Mr. Dixon is survived by his wife, Dorothy; one son, Ray Dixon; one daughter, Frances Clark; one grandson; two granddaughters; and one step-granddaughter.

We, the Resolution Committee on behalf of Lodge Novy Tabor, No. 17, New Tabor, wish to express our condolences to the entire family of our departed sister, WILLIE MAE MATUS, age 67 of Caldwell, who passed away on Wednesday evening, May 31, 1995, in a Bryan hospital.

Mrs. Matus was born October 26,1927, in Lyons, the daughter of the late Joe and Julie Kazmir Prazak. She was educated in the Caldwell schools and was a homemaker. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell and also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary No. 4458 of Caldwell.

Her family remembers her love for her grandchildren, her garden and her flow-

ers. She also enjoyed sewing, shopping and travelling.

She was married to Albert Lee Matus on January 24,1951, in Bryan.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Milady Carrington and Lydia Marek; and a brother, Steven Prazak.

Survivors include her husband, Albert Matus of Caldwell; two daughters and sons-in-law, Diane and A.J. Macik and Lorri and Kevin Stewart, all of Caldwell; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas Lee and Robin Matus of Caldwell and Albert Lee, Jr. and Margie Matus of Giddings; one sister, Josephine Zgabay of Caldwell; and nine grandchildren.

A rosary was recited at 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 3, 1995, from Strickland Funeral Home in Caldwell.

Funeral services were held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, June 4, 1995, from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Dimirij Colankin officiating.

Interment followed in St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in Caldwell.

Victoria County Czech Heritage Festival Set for July 16 The 11th Annual Victoria County Czech Heritage Festival is Sunday, July 16, 1995, at the Victoria Community Center at 2905 East North Street in Victoria, Texas.

Admission for the event is $5 for persons over 12 years of age. Admission is free for persons under 12 years.

The Czech-English Polka Mass is at 9 a.m. and will be celebrated by Father Joseph Hybner in Our Lady of Victory Cathedral at Laurent and Mesquite Street. Placedo Brethren services are at 11 a.m. at Placedo Brethren Church, located 11 miles south on Highway 87.

An arts and crafts show is from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. The show includes specially- crafted Czech items. For more information on the arts and crafts show, contact Cathy Domak at (512) 573-4950.

The Czech Baking Contest begins with registration at 9:30 a.m. Judging is at 10:30 a.m. The two categories for the contest are professional and non-professional. Registration for the Texas State Tarok Tournament is at 8:30 a.m. in the Annex.

Miss CzechSlovak USA Pageant 1995

Vitame Vas! On August 5 and 6, 1995, the Ninth Annual Miss CzechSlovak USA Queen Pageant is scheduled at Wilber, Nebraska, during the National Czech Festival Days of August 4, 5, and 6, 1995.

The girls who compete in this pageant are very special girls because they are involved in their ancestry and are proud of their ethnic background. The pageant will again take place on the brand new Wilber Community Outdoor Theater.

Miss Nebraska Czech Heritage Angie Vaca of David City, Nebraska was crowned the 1994-95 queen. Miss Texas Melanie Zavodny took first runner-up.

Reunion of John and Frances Dusek Shenkir Descendants Dear Family Members, Our Annual Shenkir Family Reunion will be Sunday, August 13, 1995, at Seaton Community Center in Seaton, Texas, on Highway 53, approximately nine miles east of Temple. Registration will begin at 10 a.m.

Lunch will be served between 12 and 12:30 p.m. Tea, coffee, bread and eating utensils will be provided. Please bring enough food for your family and we will all share together.

After lunch, we will have a family meeting and give away lots of door prizes! Please bring a white elephant gift for the drawing.

We are proud of our Czech heritage and in order to honor the memory of our ancestors, let's all come together. Don't forget to bring pictures, family items or any data to share. District One Camp Begins July 14 Dear Campers, District One will be camping soon and I am sure all of you are looking forward to camp. Arrival time is between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on Friday, July 14 and the fun begins then!

This year's theme is "Christmas in July" so we will be doing a lot of activities centered around Christmas. We will be doing several Christmas crafts, playing games, decorating a Christmas tree, singing Christmas songs and even having a Christmas party. We are asking that each camper bring a small Christmas present for a child under the age of 12 years to donate to a local charity.

The older group of campers will once again be participating in the challenge course. Your youth leader should have given you a form to be filled out for participation in this activity. If you did not get a form, contact your youth leader.

Put on a big smile and we will see you at camp.

Here is a list of what you will need to bring to camp: Four changes of clothes, blue jeans for horseback riding, tennis shoes, shoes to wear in the river, two swimming suits (one for the river), life jacket (if you have one), beach towel, toilet items (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc.), twin sheets and light cover (or sleeping bag), towels and washcloth, flashlight, quarters for the coke machine, sun visor or cap, sunscreen, shaving cream (for shaving cream fight), and one unwrapped Christmas gift.

This year we are having a Christmas party and dance with a karoake DJ. Think about what you would like to sing at camp and be prepared. The LITs know that I will get up there and sing if nobody else does. So if you don't want to listen to me try to sing all night, you better get up there!

Dear District One Readers, The 1995 District One Youth Achievement Day will be held Sunday, July 23, 1995, at Lodge 13, Dime Box. From the influx of cards, we are in for another exciting and enjoyable YAD. As was decided at the youth leader's training, YAD will start 30 minutes later this year. Registration will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon with the program beginning at 1 p.m. We will once again have a catered fried-chicken lunch being served from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Randy has asked that I remind everyone to have only one number on each cassette tape and that the number be at the beginning of each tape. He also asks that the music stop when the act stops.

He does not want to be responsible for stopping at a precise moment in the act.

Your youth leader should have contacted you if you were on the YAD work-

Two Young People Prepare for Camp District

Dear Campers, District Two Camp is only days away. I am sure you are all looking forward to funfilled days at Camp Val Verde. Our 1995 "Christmas in July" camp will begin at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 18 for our junior campers and will continue until 10 a.m. on Friday, July 21. We are very excited to have several newcomers to camp this year, and of course, we look forward to seeing our faithful campers, too.

Teen camp will begin on Friday, July 21 at 10 a.m. and continue until Sunday, July 23 at 6 p.m. We are looking forward to having another great year at Val Verde.

Campers, be ready for a lot of swimming, canoeing, games, volleyball, hikes, horseback riding, and many other fun activities.

In keeping with our camp theme, we will be sharing and giving to those less fortunate than we are. A time will be set aside to remember the true meaning of Christmas with a group of special visitors.

29, Taylor Youth Club Reports on June Meeting Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Lodge 29, Taylor Youth Club's monthly meeting was held on June 11.

New member welcomed was Shurron Burtchell, who is a transfer from the Granger lodge.

We discussed the upcoming swim party and pre-camp meeting on June 20 at the Bartlett Swimming Pool. Everyone was reminded of the upcoming District Two Youth Achievement Day in Round Rock on July 9 beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Camp forms were due on June 30. Camp will be July 18-21 for juniors and July 2123 for teens.

The youth club welcomed Edwina Jezisek, our new assistant youth leader.

The group looks forward to working with Edwina in the future.

Youth club rule book changes were discussed. Changes in the minimum points and changes in the amount of points you receive in different events were also discussed.

Other upcoming events discussed included the next youth club meeting on.

Friday, July 14 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone was reminded that money for the Port Aransas trip should be paid at the July meeting so the deposit can be sent in for the trip.
