Congratulations to Lillie Annie Dusek
Lodge 16, Bila Hora member receives Age 96 Certificate The SPJST congratulates Sister Lillie Annie Dusek, a member of Lodge 16, Bila Hora, who celebrated her 97th birthday on February 26, 1995. As such, Sister Lillie is entitled to all SPJST membership benefits with no further dues or assessments required. The family of Lillie Annie Dusek met on March 5, 1995 to celebrate her 97th birthday. The celebration took place in Flower Mound at the home of her grandchildren, Kathy and Bob Lines. It was not only a day to celebrate Lillie's birthday, but a day to honor her with the presentation of an "Age 96" certificate and 75-year membership pin from the SPJST. District Three Director Sid Pokladnik made the presentation. Lillie was born in Sublime, Texas on February 26, 1898. Her parents were William and Neronica Volek Woytek. William was born in the Bila Hora Community and Veronica in
Czechoslovakia. Veronica traveled to the states to work for William's parents—this was how they met. Lillie had four brothers and sisters who are all deceased: Joseph, Emilie Woytek Trojcak, Agnes, and Augusta Woytek Malcik. Three siblings died in infancy: Anton, Leonard and Sophie. When Lillie met Charles (Charlie) Dusek, they had the typical "horse and buggy" courtship. He said he fell in love with her when he saw her in her Confirmation dress when she was 16. They were married in Sublime, Texas at her home on October 15, 1915. A barbecue reception followed in the backyard. In the years following their marriage, Charlie worked for Lillie's father in his General Mercantile store in Sublime. After the store was sold, Charlie continued to work for his father-in-law as a truck farmer. In 1920, their first child, a daughter, was horn. She died in infancy. In 1922, a son, Melvin, was born.
"She is delighted when the grandchildren and great-grandchildren come to visit so she can shower them with homemade treats om the kitchen."
IMO
Attending Sister Dusek's 97th birthday celebration at the home of her grandchildren, Kathy and Bob Lines, were her two children and spouses, Melvin and Mary Dusek of Victoria and Marilyn and Myron Dees of Canyon. Also in attendance were her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Janet, Randy, and Scott Hutson of Victoria; Sheryl, Jenny and Ryan Brazile of Bentonville, Arkansas; Nolan, Susan and Cullen Dees of Alburquerque, New Mexico; and the host and hostess with their children, Meredith and Jefferson Lines. Her granddaughter's husband, Rick Brazile, and her great-granddaughter, Catherine Hutson were unable to attend. In the mid-twenties, the family moved to Needville, Texas where they owned and operated a hotel and a general mercantile store. A daughter, Marilyn, was born in 1931. On December 7, 1941, the family was packing to move to Granger, Texas when they heard the news of the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. In Granger, Charlie owned a grocery-dry goods store. Through all their years in business, Lillie
worked part-time with her husband in their stores. In 1947, Melvin joined his father in business and continued this partnership until 1955 when Charlie retired. Charlie and Lillie moved to Hallettsville, Texas in 1961 and enjoyed many happy retirement years together until April 12, 1969 when Charlie died of heart failure. Lillie moved to Canyon, Texas in 1981.
