Local lodge workshop set for March 11 The Tenth Annual Local Workshop will be held on Saturday, March 11, 1995 at Lodge 177, Academy. The workshop will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with a complimentary luncheon at noon. The 1994 Lodge Recognition and Incentive Banquet will follow at Lodge 80, Holland.

Featured speaker for the workshop will be Tommy Engelke, associate vice president of the Texas Agricultural Cooperative Council, a voluntary statewide trade association of agriculture, electric, telephone and water supply cooperatives. He is a Dale Carnegie course instructor and a recognized facilitator of long range business planning exercises.

"I'm looking forward to working with SPJST members," says Engelke. "I know something about the Society and the services it provides to its members and to the communities where local lodges are located.

"During my workshop session, I'm hoping that we can explore some of the challenges facing local lodge leaders."

Engelke's session, titled "Blueprint for Dynamic Leadership" will begin at 10 a.m. "Don't come and expect to hear a lot of flowery talk," Engelke advises.

"This will be an active session where lodge officers and members can learn new techniques they can apply when they get home."

Engelke was born and raised on a 500acre crop and livestock farm near the town of Kingsbury, east of San Antonio.

He is a graduate of Luling High School and a distinguished graduate of Texas A&M University where he was a member of the Graduate Student Council.

Throughout his academic and professional life, his great icve has been the land and its people. The Future Farmers of America (FFA) has played a prominent role in his life. A past state officer, Engelke has achieved recognition at the highest levels within the organization, including serving as past president of the FFA Work Experience Abroad program.

Perry Agricultural Commissioner's transition team and as a member of the Texas Agricultural Council, a group which represents farm and ranch interests at the State Capitol. He is the immediate past president of the Professional Agricultural Workers of Texas. In addition to his professional interests, Engelke is an avid square-dancer and is past president of the Austin Square and Round Dance Association.

"I love what I do because I really enjoy helping people," says Engelke." Training workshops are always fun—especially when people pick up a technique that can help them do a better job.

"Sometimes I'll get a call from somebody who attended a presentation and they'll say, 'Hey, what you had to say

really makes a difference,"' says Engelke.

"Knowing that makes me feel good and want to get out there and do it again."

And that's just what Engelke plans to do when he makes his presentation on Saturday, March 11 at the Lodge Officers Workshop at Lodge 177, Academy.

"We're excited and looking forward to working with Mr. Engelke," says Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, who coordinated this year's program. "What he has to say could help us all in addressing the challenges and opportunities of the future."

News and Notes from All Over It's another tight issue. As such, there wasn't a lot of room for feature material in this week's newspaper . . . The minutes of the January Supreme Lodge Meeting begin on page 6. It's always interesting to read the minutes and get a feel for some of the matters affecting the Society.

In addition to the lodge reports and photos that came in last week, there were several timely announcements. Here are a few . . .

Czech Heritage Society to Meet The Spring State Meeting of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas will be held Saturday, March 4, 1995, at St. Andrew's Parish Hall in Hillje, sponsored by Wharton County Chapter.

Registration is at 9:30 p.m. with coffee, kolaches, a swap and share of family trees, history, exhibits, and visiting.

The welcome at 10:30 a.m. will be given by Wharton County Chapter President Marie Matcek. The introduction of Wharton County Czech Officials and Physicians from the Czech Republic serving at the Houston Medical Center will follow.

A catered barbecue chicken lunch will be served and the East Bernard Singers will entertain at 11 a.m. The program begins at noon. Mr. Jaroslav Belik, a kinetic sculptor and mechanical engineer who was born in Vsetin, Czechoslovakia, will give the presentation.

Hillje is located in west Wharton County off U.S. Highway 59. The church, hall and the Czech Catholic Home can be seen from the highway. *** Educational Exchange Programs Also arriving in the mail last week was a letter from Sister Dorothy Bohac of Austin. She asked to share with Vestnik readers, information about two educational exchange programs being conducted with Charles University in Prague.

The first program is coordinated through The Council on International Education Exchange Program at Charles University in Prague This program is for students who want to spend a semester or an academic year studying the Czech language at Charles University. The deadline to apply is March 1, 1995. For complete details and an application, call the UT Study Abroad Office at (512) 471-6490.

A second program, funded in part by the United States Information Agency, is also accepting applications. Those enrolling in this program must have been enrolled at UT Austin one full semester before applying to participate in the exchange. The deadline to apply for the Fall 1995 semester or for the 1995-96 academic year in March 1. Those applying for the Spring 1996 semester have until November 1. Sports for Understanding Sport for Understanding (SFU), a nonprofit exchange program for teenage athletes, announces a tennis team traveling to the Czech Republic during the summer of 1995. Tennis players-ages 14-19--of all skill levels are invited to join.

Coached by Gene Hardman, of the New Mexico Military Institute in Roswell, New Mexico, this team will be hosted by the ATOSS Ostrava Tennis Club. Ostrava is located about 180 miles east of Prague.

Throughout the three-week program, the team will be involved in a variety of sport and cultural learning activities.

SFU athletes and their volunteer coaches live with host families during their stay to experience the country's customs and culture firsthand. The SFU team trains with their host club, and has games scheduled with local teams.

Since 1982, thousands of teen athletes have experienced different cultures through SFU sport exchanges. For more information and an application,please write to Ann Wallace, c/o Sports for Understanding, Department C205, 3501 Newark Street, N.W., Washington, D.C. 20016, or call 1(800) TEENAGE. *** Festival of American Folklife Although space did not permit their publication this week, we received a very interesting update and photographs from Brother Victor Peter of Lodge 172, Pasadena on the Smithsonian Institution's 29th Annual Festival of American Folklife. A major portion of the celebration which is to be held outdoors on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. will be devoted to traditional music, dance, crafts, foods and performances of the Czech Republic and Czech Americans.

The event will run from June 23 - June 27 and from June 30 - July 4, 1995.

Overall program costs for the program are estimated at $700,000 to cover staff, research, fieldwork, production, airfares, room and board for 70 participants from the Czech Republic and 15 participants from Czech-American communities, site preparation, construction, equipment and supplies. The Smithsonian has already committed more than $300,000 for basic set-up expenses, research and personnel support. The Czech Republic matched all research and travel costs. Roughly $100,000 in additional private funds must still be raised.

Spotlight on Our SPJST Staff

SPJST Presents Gift to Sokol

Melanie Zavodn Communications Assistant Fraternal Department Five Months of Service In her position as communications assistant, Sister Melanie assists with the day-to-day production of the SPJST's weekly newspaper, Vestnik. Her duties include typesetting, proofreading and the development of various communication projects.

An honor graduate of Rogers High School, Melanie received her Associates Degree, with an emphasis in communication, from Temple Junior College, where she was also an honor graduate.

Her collegiate accomplishments include several semesters on the Dean's List and Dean's Honor Roll. She also served on the staff of the school's literary magazine and represented her peers as a member of the Student Senate.

In addition to her academic coursework at TJC, Melanie received a proficiency certificate in paralegal studies from Southern Career Institute in Florida in 1994.

She is currently enrolled in correspondence study through the University of Texas at Austin, pursuant to a degree in communications law.

Prior to working at SPJST, Melanie worked as proofreader and paste-up artist at the Temple Daily Telegram. She also served as a sales associate with Dillard's Department Store in Temple.

"Whatever I do, I do to the best of my ability," says Melanie.

"Every job is special. Working at the Home Office and on the Vestnik, I get to see every day how important the SPJST is to our members. It's a wonderful feeling working to help keep the lines of communication open."

Apart from her work at the Home Office, Melanie is active in Lodge 24, Cyclone. As youth leader, she brings with her a lifetime of SPJST youth club experiences. Melanie is past District Two queen and was first runner up in the Miss SPJST competition held in conjunction with the 1992 SPJST Convention in Victoria.

She is also a past SPJST Scholarship recipient.

"The SPJST has always been a part of my life," Melanie says.

"It's been good but I truly believe the best is yet to come ...

In addition to her SPJST involvement, Sister Zavodny holds the title of Miss Texas Czech and was first runner up in the Miss Czech-Slovak USA Pageant held in Nebraska in 1994. Her special interests include tennis, walking, writing, aerobic dancing, spending time with family and friends, her two cats, Callie and Priscilla, travelling and modeling.

He is a Dale Carnegie course instructor and a recognized facilitator of long range business planning exercises.

The SPJST Supreme Lodge has authorized reimbursement for one car per lodge to attend the workshop. Lodges receiving awards at the Awards Dinner following the workshop will be authorized reimbursement for one additional car.

The Eleventh Annual SPJST State Straight Domino Tournament will be held this Saturday, February 25 at SPJST Lodge 29 in Taylor.

Registration is from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Play begins at 9:30 a.m. Eight games will be played by all teams. Four games will be played before the noon meal, and four games plus the playoff games will be played in the afternoon.

Prizes will be awarded to the top four teams.

The 1995 prizes are: First Place - Individual Trophy and $25.00 for each player Second Place - Individual Trophy and $20.00 for each player Third Place - Individual Trophy and $15.00 for each player Fourth Place - Set of SPJST Dominoes for each player Door prizes will be given.

We want to inform you that there will

be two lodge trophies in the 1995 domino tournaments. A lodge trophy will be presented to the first place winner's lodge and the other trophy to the local lodge players winning the most games.

The players, the lodge fraternal activities coordinator, or the person in charge is required to submit names of players to the Home Office State FAC prior to the tournaments.

In 1995, there is no limit as to the number of teams that can enter from any given lodge.

Each player is required to be an SPJST member. Players pay $6.00 for the noon meal and snacks that will be provided by the hosting lodge. We hope you are planning to join us for this tournament.

District Three Fall Meeting Minutes October 23, 1994 at Lodge 66, Waco The meeting was called to order by District Three President Kay Lynn Kovar.

Brother Justin Engelke and Brother Paxton Davies said the Pledge of Allegiance and the SPJST motto.

The welcome was given by President Keith Gatewood of Lodge 66. He said good morning and welcomed everyone to Lodge 66. He also stated that he hopes

everyone enjoys their noon meal and the meeting.

The response was given by First Vice President Sharon Tierce. She mentioned that Lodge 66 was glad that everyone was able to come out, and she hoped everyone had a nice day.

Brother Sid Pokladnik motioned that the minutes not be read because they

were in the Vestnik for everyone to read.

Sister Martha Durham had one correction in the minutes. She stated that the minutes read that the $250 from the Supreme Lodge went to lodge host District Three and it should have read that the $250 went to the lodge hosting District YAD. With that change in the minutes, they were approved.

Secretary Diana Engelke read correspondence on an expression of sympathy from the Gebala family; a memorial gift to the SPJST Scholarship fund in memory of Brother Gebala; and a thank you from Rest Home No. 2 on the donation for the piano.

Treasurer Sister Martha Durham reported on our general funds as of April 22, 1994. We had $5,033.25 on hand.

We had four deposits totaling $1,467.40 and withdrawals totaling $1,998.35, leaving a balance of $4,502.30 on hand on October 20, 1994. The District Three Youth Fund balance was $6,752.85. We had deposits of $4,841.50 and withdrawals of $4,340.00, leaving a balance of $7,254.35 on October 20, 1994. A motion was made and approved on the treasurer's report.

Brother George Pauling gave the Rest Home Report saying that both were doing well. He stated that they were doing repainting at Needville and had to raise the awning outside for the handicap vans. They were in the process of setting up a computer network between the two nursing homes. On the piano fund, they had several members who donated and should have received a thank-you letter from the nursing home. At the end of September, they had collected $3,125.52, so they had enough money to buy their piano. At our last meeting, we had hired a new administrator at Needville Nursing Home and under her leadership, they received the highest marks that Needville has even gotten.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Brother George Pauling reported on the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive. He reminded everyone to be sure and do this.

He stated that if you want, turn in the yellow slip with your name on it and your name would be printed in the Vestnik.

On another note, he reported that the volleyball tournament will be November 19, 1994, in Bruceville-Eddy. Brother Pauling also reminded members to elect someone from their lodge as a fraternalist of the year by November 1.

Supreme Lodge Report was presented

by Brother Jerry Mikulas (Financial Secretary). Brother Mikulas stated that SPJST is doing quite well overall. We are probably in the best financial position since 1897. We had projected $100 million in 1997 to celebrate our 100th anniversary. Here is it 1994, and we are at $104 million of assets. You have to understand SPJST also has liabilities of approximately $85 million behind that.

The difference between assets and liabilities is what we consider the reserve. To make sure that if something happened, they would have an ample amount of money to pay for anything that might happen.

Brother Jerry Mikulas says that the Home Office gets a lot of calls from people asking to pay them as much as possible because they are investing their money with SPJST. Brother Mikulas stated that the Home Office is trying to pay you as much as possible. Members have to realize that we went up on Annuity I to 5.25 percent and Annuity II to 6.25 percent. The problem we face in the Home Office is the fact that we need to match any liabilities we have with assets. Right now Brother Mikeska is

Also, Brother Editor Brian Vanicek was attending the District Seven Meeting, but he had his report printed and it will be up at the desk for you to pick up if you like.

Brother Sid Pokladnik gave his District Three Director's Report. He mentioned that he likes what the Supreme Lodge and the Editor have created by honoring an employee in the Vestnik. He stated that he realized that sometimes members call the Home Office and talk with an employee and recognize his or her name but did not know what he or she looked like. So please read your Vestnik These people are very important to you.

They will be handling your money or any other matter that you may have.

Brother Pokladnik applauded Brother Pauling on the FAC and rest home work he is doing. On the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive that was brought up, Brother Pokladnik stated that 160 applications were turned in. He said that everyone cannot receive a $500 scholarship. The scholarship applications that are turned in are determined by The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas and not the Supreme

Lodge.

Quoting Brother Sid Pokladnik, "As I remember as a kid, a true fraternal society is that we stick together, we work together, we do things together and we do not expect nothing." As all the lodges know, now it is a different story—it has changed around. The first thing when you ask someone to do something, they ask what is in it for me. That is not a true fraternal society. A true fraternal society membership, is what you can do for your member. We should never forget we are a non-profit fraternal society. There are over 100 fraternal societies in the United States and we are working hard to keep our non-profit status.

Brother Sid Pokladnik congratulated Brother Jerry Kucera, our new State Field Representative. He will work with the members, lodges and other sales representatives.

Brother Sid Pokladnik mentioned that SPJST still makes loans if someone wanted to build a house. They must be a member. But we made a change beginning November 1 that loans cannot exceed over $100,000; for 1-7 years is 8 percent; 8-15 years is 8.5 percent; and 1620 years is 8.75 percent. We only loan 75 percent. For example, on a home that costs $100,000, SPJST will lend $75,000.

We loan 75 percent. We also have commercial loans, 1-10 years is 9.75 percent and 11-15 years is 10 percent.

Brother Sid Pokladnik went back to the sales representatives and mentioned that they are the backbone of SPJST. The

Brother Pokladnik congratulated all District Three lodges for their participation and hard work in the incentive program. In the gold incentive program, we gave out $7,662.13; in the silver, we gave out $3,400.00; in the bronze, we gave out $4,500.00; $2,200.00 was given out for honorable mentions; and $3,000.00 was given out at the first step.

In the Quarterback Club as of September 1994, First Down was Angeline Stiborek (Lodge 183), Second Down was Johnny Gaidusek, Sr. (Lodge 66), and Touchdown was Martha Durham (Lodge 92).

Monthly Running Back Top Producers in September 1994 from District Three were Johnny Gaidusek, Sr. (Lodge 66), Gladys Yates (Lodge 66), Inez Greenlees (Lodge 183), Bernard Hlavaty (Lodge 183), Daniel Roznovsky (Lodge 183), Angeline Stiborek (Lodge 183), and Martha Durham (Lodge 92).

Brother Jerry Kucera spoke for a few minutes. He introduced his wife, Dorothy, and he stated that he has five children. He was employed with HEB for 32 years. He said that when he walked into the Home Office, he decided to go to work for SPJST because everyone was so nice and helpful towards him.

Brother Kercho (finance report) stated that their meeting in March was a good meeting. He said that your money is being well taken care of. He reported that members voted last year to give Supreme Lodge Officers and the editor a four percent increase in salary. Brother Kercho announced that the next committee meeting will be in the spring of 1995.

Brother Jarma (insurance report) thanked Past District Three Sales Representative Keith Gatewood. He stated that they would miss him and they wanted to wish him the best of luck in Districts One and Two. He also congrat-

President Kovar asked if there was any old business and we did not have any. Next was new business. Sister Hubenak suggested that when doing roll call to please announce the city the lodge is from as well as the lodge number.

Sister Martha Durham asked President Keith Gatewood of Lodge 66 to come up to get the $250 check for hosting the District Three Fall meeting. Sister Durham stated that when the treasurer gives her the expense of food, she will give her a check.

Brother Pokladnik made a challenge to everyone that since we had 132 at this meeting that at our next meeting we have 264 present.

Sister Durham will present a check to Lodge 66, Waco for the catering of the meal $612.50, cash contribution was $190.00, for a balance of $422.50.

Canned goods will go to Caritas which is an organization in Waco consisting of all churches. Caritas is a Greek word meaning "caring". We collected 300 cans at this meeting.

Brother Pauling announced the winners of the kolache/strudel contest. They were: First Place—Georgia Pavlicek (Lodge 66, Waco), $25.00 Second Place—Lynda Novak (Lodge 84, Dallas), $15.00 Third Place—Georgia Pavlicek (Lodge 66, Waco), $10.00 Site selection of District Three Spring Meeting on April 23, 1995 Brother Pokladnik made a motion that the secretary be sure to put spring and fall dates in the minutes, which were done the last time, because someone did not realize that these dates were set and they were not prepared to volunteer their lodge. Brother Emil Petr asked his wife, Sister Bessie Petr, if Lodge 84 will host the Spring Meeting. So Lodge 84 will host our next Spring District Three Meeting on April 23, 1995. Our District Fall Meeting will be October 22, 1995.

Site location is not decided as of vet.

Report by Sister Bessie Petr on Publication Committee and Youth Counselor's Report Sister Petr reported that there was no report on publication until the spring meeting. She thanked HEB in Waco for donating 35 pumpkins for our kids' pumpkin contest at the meeting.

She stated that they had a good District Three YAD. Brother Pokladnik was not there and others, but we struggled through and did a good job. We had a queen from Lodge 92, Melissa Hubenak who was chosen and a king from Lodge 84, Chris Coker at District who went to State. We also had several youth who won at District and went to State where they won first place.

District Three camp was fabulous.

The people made it so easy and saved us

money so we can have another outing.

Sister Petr thanked Lodge 66 for furnishing the cold drinks and M&M Mars for the candy. We also had snacks like Little Debbie's and others. Buns were donated and Lodge 84 donated the meat.

On December 2 and 3, Lodge 84 is inviting all District Three youth to spend the night Friday and go to Holiday-inthe-Park on Saturday.

The District Three Youth Achievement Day has been set. Lodge 154, Fort Worth will host YAD in 1995 and Lodge 92, Fort Worth will host YAD in 1996. District Three YAD is held on the fourth Sunday of June each year.

At the Texas State Fraternal Congress, the scrapbook and poster from Lodge 84 won first place.

President Kay Lynn Kovar announced we would have the drawing for the surprise door prizes. The winners were: John Engelke of Lodge 66 (two tickets to a Halloween dance); Dillion Locke of Lodge 66 (two tickets to a Halloween dance); Jeanne Mason of Lodge 154 (a can opener); Patricia Neslony of Lodge 66 (electric knife); Jamie Novak of Lodge 84 (phone answering machine); Emma Ceska of Lodge 66 (RCA CD player); and James Linderman of Lodge 92 (microwave).

The first regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge SPJST was called to order by Chairman of the Board Pokladnik at 8:34 a.m. with all members of the Supreme Lodge present. Those present were: Howard B. ELECTION OF CHAIRMAN/VICE CHAIRMAN OF THE BOARD — The first item of business was the annual election of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board. The Chair was turned over to President Leshikar to conduct the election to fill the two positions.

Director Pokladnik was nominated and unanimously elected by acclamation as Chairman of the Board for 1995. He responded by thanking the Board for placing confidence in him.

Director Vanek was nominated and unanimously elected by acclamation as the Vice Chairman of the Board for 1995. He responded by thanking the Board for placing confidence in him.

RECORDING SECRETARY — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin had broken the wrist of her right arm and indicated she would have considerable difficulty in recording the minutes since her right arm was incapacitated. Legal Advisor Kacir reviewed the By Laws to determine procedural direction, if any, and the Board considered the following options: 1. Selection of someone from among the Board to serve as temporary recording secretary.

2. An abbreviated recording of minutes basically recording only essential motions and actions.

3. Selecting an employee to assist Secretary-Treasurer Anglin in recording the transaction of business.

There was discussion. President Leshikar indicated he did not feel we should have an employee present to assist with the recording of the minutes. Legal Advisor Kacir indicated preference that someone from the Board would be the best alternative or accepting an abbreviated set of minutes recording all essential matters.

After due deliberations, Director Vavra nominated Vice President Mikeska to serve as temporary recording secretary for this meeting. Director Bayer seconded and the motion carried unanimously. It was understood that the minutes would be certified by Secretary - Treasurer Anglin since that position will remain responsible for the final certification of the approved minutes.

Chairman of the Board Pokladnik encouraged the Board Members to be thorough but as brief as possible and to keep their discussion to the point when considering an item of business.

Director Vanek stated that his son, James, would be honored in a ceremony in Hallettsville at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 19, 1995, and he indicated the need to be excused after 11:00 a.m. Thursday, if the meeting is not concluded by that time. It was unanimously agreed to grant him permission to leave as requested.

AUDIT ASSIGNMENTS — The following audit assignments were announced: 1. Audit of the Safe Deposit Box at Nations Bank to verify securities: President Leshikar, Vice President Mikeska, Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, Director Kohutek, Chairman of the Board Pokladnik, Legal Advisor Kacir, and Home Office employee Daryl Entrop.

2. Audit of Ledger and books: Director Hanus and Director Broz.

3. Audit of Vouchers: Vice Chairman Vanek, Director Vavra, and Director Bayer.

4. Financial Secretary Mikulas was assigned to stay at the Home Office to respond to questions and information requests from the audit teams.

AGENDA — The selection of Fraternalist of the year had not been listed on the meeting agenda and was added to the agenda by common consent.

Recess was taken at 8:55 a.m. to allow the audit teams time to complete their audit assignments.

The meeting was called hack to order on January 17th at 12:30 p.m..

Wednesday, February 22, 1995—VESTNIK/7 MINUTES -- Consideration was given to the minutes of the reguiar meeting of the Supreme Lodge held on November 7 & 8, 1994. Since copies of the minutes had been distributed earlier, the minutes were not read but were considered page by page to allow anyone having a correction to bring it up for consideration.

On page 36, under "DIRECT' BILL" the number of certificates for Lodge 82 was corrected to 34. After due consideration, on motion by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Broz, the minutes were unanimously approved.

Consideration was given to the Minutes of the special Supreme Lodge meeting held on December 16, 1994. This was the Special meeting to consider planning of the 100th Anniversary Celebration event of SPJST. On page 42, the 6th and 7th lines of print, the word "possible" was struck from both lines.

On page 42, under "the schedule decided was:" the Friday night the time "10:30" was changed to "12 midnight" and the words "top entertainer" were changed to "first class entertainment".

The minutes were unanimously approved with the corrections, on motion by Director Vanek and seconded by President Leshikar.

OFFICERS' REPORTS — The Supreme Lodge Officers' reports were acknowledged to be placed on record in Exhibit Volume 15. The unanimously adopted motion to acknowledge was by Director Bayer and seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin.

DEFERRED BUSINESS TRIPS/TOURS, LIABILITY INSURANCE — The matter of trips and tours was taken up. President Leshikar reported that the matter was discussed with the insurance agency providing our liability coverage and they felt the chances of liability were remote but could not provide definite information how best to handle the potential liability. Legal Advisor Kacir stated that if the trips are allowed, the Society should not be involved in planning and should be removed from sponsorship of it otherwise, liability insurance should be obtained. President Leshikar indicated tripster insurance could be available. Legal Advisor Kacir clarified that we must have coverage available for defense and potential losses if there is a loss in connection with a trip or tour.

Board members pointed out that although we do not plan and sponsor such trips, the public may perceive that they are SPJST sponsored which was a valid concern.

It was decided that President Leshikar should get more details and information about cost of this type of coverage for consideration by the Supreme Lodge Officers for their study and further submission of their findings to entire Board.

LIBRARY ARCHIVES, MUSEUM COMMITTEE — President Leshikar reported the LAM Committee met on December 10, 1994. The Committee is composed of all Standing Committee Chairpersons and President Leshikar and Thelma Hrncir.

President Leshikar reported a recommendation from the Committee that Districts 1, 2, and 6 are not currently represented by chairpersons and the Supreme Lodge is being asked to appoint additional committee persons. The LAM Committee has authorization for expenses of up to $30,000 and is to report to the Supreme Lodge and the next convention.

There was discussion about the LAM Committee recommendation for the Supreme Lodge to appoint additional committee members. During a discussion, some Board members pointed out that there was no indication by the convention that every district must have representation. If this had been the delegates intent, they would have surely so provided.

Director Bayer moved that the committee be left as it is currently appointed without additional appointments. The motion was seconded by Director Vavra. Vote was taken with Vice President Mikeska, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Director Vavra, Director Kohutek, Director Broz, Director Hanus, Director Bayer, and Secretary-Treasurer Anglin voting in favor. Voting against the motion: President Leshikar, Director Vanek, Legal Advisor Kacir, and Chairman Pokladnik. The motion carried.

DANCE CLASS — President Leshikar asked the Board to authorize dance classes. He recommended that we select one lodge from each district to try out the dance program 5 and that full control be given to the parents of the children involved. The Home Office is to pay for the dance instructor. There was extensive discussion about how the program would be administered, its cost and potential benefits and the objectives of the new activity.

CUT — President Leshikar reported that the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas will honor contributors to the Czech Chair in a special program on January 28, 1995, at 10:30 a.m. at the Blocker Building at Texas A&M University. Several Board Members indicated they would be present to accept the recognition for support from our Society.

SPJST 100TH ANNIVERSARY — President Leshikar brought up for review the plans for the 100th Anniversary. There was feedback that some members did not agree with having the workshop combined with the 100th Anniversary activities, feeling that the activities should be more of a celebration than a workshop. The anticipated budget for workshop and 100th Anniversary is $80,000.00. The budget was set at $80,000 (including workshop and awards dinner) and $20,000 will be set aside annually for 1994,1995,1996, and 1997. The motion was by Financial Secretary Mikulas seconded

by President Leshikar and it carried unanimously.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT — President Leshikar reported that results of the mail poll seeking approval for additional computer equipment for the Editor was six in favor of purchase and six in favor of additional review and information. It was reported that the Editor had brought his personal computer to the Home Office for use by the Communications Assistant and it was pointed out that it is our policy that personal equipment should not be brought in for conducting Society business.

President Leshikar moved and Vice President Mikeska seconded that purchase of the computer equipment be authorized at a cost of $3,249. Motion carried unanimously.

Recess was taken from 2:45 p.m. until 3:10 p.m..

POINT SYSTEM — President Leshikar reported that the District Youth Counselors met at the Home Office on November 12, 1994, for their fall DYC meeting. They voted unanimously to adopt anew modified plan for the point system. He reviewed the recommended changes listed in State Youth Director Joni Lange's report in attachment A in her report. State Youth Director Lange indicated that the proposal was submitted by Marcy Dorotik on behalf of the DYCs for consideration by the Supreme Lodge. State Youth Director Lange endorsed the implementation of their proposal.

Areas not affected are the top point Junior and Senior in each District, top point Junior and Senior in the State District Scholarships and State Scholarships.

It was explained that we currently award a lst-5th place award in Junior and Senior division thereby allowing only 5 youth to win in each division. With the new revised program, winners will not be limited to 5 in each division and there could potentially be more in the new system.

Included in the proposal changes: The first step will be to raise minimum requirements for merit point system from 800 to 1,000 points and elimination of 4th and 5th place awards in the junior and senior division in each lodge. We will award only a Ist-3rd place in each division in each lodge. The prizes will be based upon a point spread of 300 points.

On motion by Director Bayer, seconded By Director Kohutek, it was agreed to approve the changes in point system awards as recommended and listed in the report.

Motion carried unanimously.

YOUTH CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS — President Leshikar recommended that an additional 25 percent of scholarships be awarded through the Youth Department. It was proposed that a minimum of 6 years active participation in an active youth club he required.

There was extensive discussion about the DYC request to direct 20 or more additional requested scholarships from the general scholarships program to active youth club members.

After due deliberation, Financial Secretary Mikulas moved that: 1. We allocate 10 additional scholarships from the general scholarship program to be designated for youth active at least four years in a youth club from age 12 to 18 and be currently active at time of application.

2. That the change be effective for one year and is to be fully reviewed after the first year to decide if it will be continued.

3. Applicants who are non-winners will be placed in the general scholarship pool.

4. Selecting requirements and process will be the same as for general scholarship.

Chairman of the Board Pokladnik turned the Chair over to Vice Chairman Vanek and spoke in favor of trying out a specific type of dance activity to see if it is successful in generating interest. The Chair was returned to Chairman of the Board Pokladnik.

On motion by Director Hanus and seconded by Director Vanek, the following was agreed upon: 1. To authorize money for instructors for a pilot dance program for members' children in up to three Youth Clubs.

2. To operate the program through the framework of existing youth clubs.

3. To allow decisions and authority to local youth club parents and Youth Department.

4. To report back to Supreme Lodge for review of results and additional authority.

Motion carried unanimously.

The motion was seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin and it carried with 10 in favor and Legal Advisor Kacir and Director Broz voting in opposition.

YOUTH RULE BOOK AMENDMENTS -- President Leshikar presented for consideration 34 Youth Rule Book amendments. After discussion one Amendment was made concerning announcement of winners.

A second amendment of proposed changes was to leave 32 No. 3 unchanged.

President Leshikar moved that the proposed changes to the Youth Rule book be adopted with the 2 changes. The motion was seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin and it carried with 11 in favor and Director Kohutek abstaining.

STATE FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR — Consideration was given to FAC Frank Klinkosky's report.

8/VESTNIK—Wednesday, February 22, 1995 STATE FRATERNALIST OF THE YEAR — President Leshikar reported that 33 lodges returned applications and nominations for State Fraternalist of the year The nominations and information were previously made available to all Board members.

A secret ballot was taken. The five finalists selected are: Jerome Ermis Jerry Elzner Ella Arnold Ernest Haskovec Arlene Mayeux Jerry Elzner was chosen Fraternalist of the year. The remaining four will receive honorable mention. The presentation will be made during the lodge workshop on March 11th.

Recess for the day was taken at 5 :10 p.m. until 8 a.m. January 18.

SCHOLARSHIPS --- On motion by Director Kohutek, seconded by Director Vavra, it was unanimously agreed to reconsider general scholarships.

There was discussion about the general policy of awarding $500.00 scholarships.

Review of exceptions determined that the maximum scholarships possible was three for a youth winning youth program designated scholarships.

The Board requested information on how many scholarships were awarded to youth club members, including the general scholarships in 1994, and an estimate of how many youth may qualify for the additional youth department scholarships allocated the previous day. The information was not available.

The previous determination that grandchildren of directors are not eligible for the general scholarship programs was reviewed. No action was taken.

SALES — Vice President Mikeska compared 1993 and 1994 sales. He reported that we were up $882,633 on insurance written, down 137 on number of applications, and up $118,113 on first year earned premiums on life business.

Vice President Mikeska discussed the objectives of the Insurance Department and what they desired to accomplish and he reviewed in detail the plans and programs that would be emphasized during the year. He welcomed the assistance of the directors in helping us achieve our goals. His detailed report included the following: 1. Discussion and report on securing and training more sales representatives especially in those lodges not having ample producing sales representatives. He discussed a program that had proved successful in a number of lodges; whereby, with the cooperation of the lodge, a mail-out is sent to each member seeking out those members interested in becoming sales representatives.

2. Information on the goal of the Insurance Department to assign orphan members to a sales representative. An orphan member was defined as a member whose original sales representative is deceased or no longer an active sales representative. He briefly discussed a program currently being implemented in a large lodge involving the lodge, the State Field Representative, and the Insurance Department. He emphasized that the Insurance Department would do everything possible, when assigning orphan members, to assure that no sales representatives' client would be taken away from any sales representative. He discussed the need for follow up on all of our members to determine their insurance/service needs and the coordination, support and training that will be provided to achieve this goal.

3. He reported that we would be working on advertising and have developed an insert that is being placed into premium notices and some other outgoing mail.

Director Hanus suggested that the Insurance Department utilize lodge newsletters where possible and also encourage the appointment of parents of youth club members as sales representatives.

There was discussion about coming up with an incentive program for additional insurance sold to existing members. Vice President Mikeska reported that he and the State Field Manager had a work session scheduled including our field representatives to review plans and priorities for 1995 and repeat sales was one of the items on the agenda.

ANNUITY I TO ANNUITY II TRANSFER PROGRAM — Vice President Mikeska reported that we have transferred some $6,042,000 in the transfer program. It was agreed by common consent to leave the program open until such time it is given further consideration.

STATE FIELD MANAGER, GENE McBRIDE'S REPORT — Vice President Mikeska asked the Board to review the State Field Manager's report. He stated that State Field Manager McBride has done an outstanding job of supporting the efforts of our sales team and the efforts of the Insurance Department and is deserving of acknowledgment of his efforts.

ERRORS AND OMISSION INSURANCE — Vice President Mikeska reported that an application was filed for an Errors And Omission Premium quote for sales representatives coverage and that the matter would be considered as soon as the information is received.

MOD'I ERNI — Vice President Mikeska reported that the MODTERM product and certificate has been fully approved by the Texas Department of Insurance. He reported the certificate was being marketed after filing with the Texas Department of Insurance on a file and use basis. He reported that one word on page 8 of the certificate needed to be struck and that page was filed with the Texas Department of Insurance to conclude the file.

He reported that cases over $1 million require negotiation with our reinsurance company to insure profitability and he was working on an arrangement with the reinsurer for automatic handling on jumbo cases with predetermined reinsurance premiums.

Production on the new MOD PERM product to year-end was reported to be 71 applications for $7,930,000 of insurance.

LINCOLN RUN CONTEST — On motion by Vice President Mikeska seconded by Legal Advisor Kacir, it was agreed to continue the contest which provides an incentive of $5 for each new MODTERM application until the date of the next Supreme Lodge Meeting.

CALENDAR INSERT/CONTEST DRAWING -- Vice President Mikeska reported that the deadline for the return of the cards is January 20, 1995, and the drawing will be held at 10:00 a.m., on January 25, 1995. There was discussion about the fact that Supreme Lodge members, SPJST employees, and families, defined as immediate household, are not eligible to enter and win. The drawing will be supervised and certified by our current outside auditing firm.

Report was made that the estimate of cards returned is approximately 8,000.

EMPLOYEE INCENTIVE PROGRAM — Report was made on the committee meeting on the employee incentive program. Vice President Mikeska also referred to two pages of additional information and suggestions he is submitting on the matter in his report. There was discussion to get feedback from the Board on the work of the committee. On motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, it was agreed to have the Committee have one additional meeting on the employee incentive program and then report back at the next meeting to the Supreme Lodge for further consideration.

NEW INSURANCE PRODUCT— Vice President Mikeska reported on the status of development of the graded benefit product. He reported that he has been working on the product with Actuary John Agee and it is not ready for consideration and may need to be presented to the Board by mail poll. He stated he would include detailed information on the product when it is ready.

ORGANIZATION OF NEW LODGES — There was a discussion about the procedure on organizing new lodges. Vice President Mikeska passed out a list of procedures for organizing a new lodge and the procedure was reviewed. There was a question to whether the temporary officers elected at the organizational meeting should be installed and the matter was resolved.

Vice President Mikeska announced that new Lodge No. 182, Marlin will be organized Sunday, January 22, at 4:00 p.m. in Marlin. Invitations were extended to the Supreme Lodge members.

There was discussion about the $100 currently authorized to newly chartered lodges and it was decided on motion by President Leshikar seconded by Vice President Mikeska to reconsider the payment to newly chartered lodges. Motion carried.

On motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Mikeska, it was decided to increase the amount to newly chartered lodges from $100 to $300 and not to apply to merged or reorganized lodges. Motion carried unanimously.

MINUTES — Consideration was given to the minutes of the Supreme Lodge Officers meetings concerning investments. The minutes were accepted on unanimously adopted motion by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas.

FORECLOSED PROPERTY — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin reported on foreclosed property and stated that the Society owns only two foreclosed properties. She reported that the Society has a contract and offer on REO No. 191 in Ennis. The offer was for $68,500 and the proposed sale of the property was cash on an as is basis. After discussion, the sale was ratified on motion by Director Kohutek, seconded by Director Broz and carried unanimously.

LOSS RESERVES ON REAL ESTAI'E OWNED — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin proposed a loss reserve of $38,000 on the two foreclosed properties. The loss reserve was approved on motion by Director Broz, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas and carried unanimously.

LODGE COMPLIANCE — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin reported on lodge reports outstanding and lodge compliance. She referred to a list of lodges who have not returned their updated information.

She reported that letters were mailed to local lodge presidents requesting copies of the lodge tax receipt or tax appraisal forms for ad valorem taxes. She referred to copies of receipts that were returned. Legal Advisor Kacir pointed out that among the three major areas of concern was the ad valorem taxes lodges with buildings were required to pay. He discussed the need for lodges asking for assistance with getting their taxes reduced to furnish the Secretary-Treasurer's Department with any particular problems with the building that can affect value.

There was discussion of the details of what involved in the process of dealing with a tax appraisal district attempting to get tax valuations reduced. Opinions were expressed that the Supreme Lodge is not in a position to get directly involved in the time consuming process.

A motion was adopted that Legal Advisor Kacir send a letter of information, and pamphlet on tax payers, rights, remedies, and responsibilities to each lodge sending in their tax valuation information. The motion to send the letter was by Director Hanus, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas and it carried unanimously.

Wednesday, February 22, 1995—VESTN1K/9 SCHOLARSHIPS — President Leshikar responding to a question the previous day reported that a survey of general scholarships for the past year indicated that some 10 of the recipients were active youth club members.

President Leshikar was asked to provide information as to the number, of potential recipients of scholarships under the special program designated for active youth club members.

Financial Secretary Mikulas moved that we rescind the motion adopted the previous day allocating additional scholarships to active youth club members and that the scholarship program be left as it was prior to the motion, until such time that President Leshikar .provides requested information and the matter is reconsidered and duly changed. The motion was seconded by Director Broz. Voting in favor of the motion were: Vice President Mikeska, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Legal Advisor Kacir, Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, Director Vavra, Director Kohutek, Director Broz, Director Hanus, Director Bayer, and Chairman of the Board Pokladnik. Voting in opposition: President Leshikar and Director Vanek. The motion carried DIRECT BILL — Financial Secretary Mikulas reported three lodges were recently placed on direct bill and only 11 Lodges are left on group billing. He stated that 98 percent of our certificate holders are now on direct bill.

VESTNIK — Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the Vestnik subscriptions list stands at 9,021. There was an increase of 1,073 subscriptions received during 1994.

CALENDARS — Financial Secretary Mikulas stated he mailed 27, 281 calendars in 1994. He discussed reports of a few members who received duplicate calendars and explained the reasons.

BUDGET 1994 — Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed the budget comparison and explained the distortions which were caused by events that could not have been predicted. After adjusting for non-reoccurring items, receipts were written within 12 percent of projections and expenses exceeded the budgeted amounts by only 5 percent.

Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to an item by item analysis of budgeted and actual amounts. The Board reviewed and discussed the report. One major distortion was caused by the program that allowed the transferring of certificates from Annuity I to Annuity II. Directors asked for information about various items and responded to all inquires to the satisfaction of all concerned.

Recess for lunch was taken from 12:25 p.m. until 1:15 p.m..

EDITOR VANICEK — Editor Brian Vanicek was present to visit the meeting. He was given an opportunity to speak and welcomed the opportunity for communication with the Board members and offered his services for assistance with various small projects. He expressed his appreciation for the approval of the computer equipment purchase authorization. Editor Vanicek then left the meeting.

REFUND TO LODGES FOR 1994 — Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed the refund to Lodges based on 1994 but payable in 1995. He referred to a listing of refunds comparing the amount paid in 1993 with the projected refund based on 1994. The refund amount for 1993 was reported to be $173,029 and the projected refund amount for 1994 was $167,394.

After discussion it was agreed on a motion by President Leshikar and seconded by Vice President Mikeska to increase the amount per premium paying members from $8 to $8.50 per life insurance certificate. Motion carried unanimously.

Several lodges that are not meeting the posted requirements will be excluded from the refund.

There was a general discussion about he various payments paid to lodges when the incentive programs are considered.

PENDING LOANS — Legal Advisor Kacir reviewed his report of the status of pending loans. He reviewed problems encountered on various loans and what was involved on several loans in process.

Director Bayer questioned the number of repetitive phone charges apparently made by an employee and was informed that the charges were paid by the employee.

Director Bayer asked for explanation of legal expense charges, where a total was shown and he was informed that a complete breakdown of all charges would be furnished to validate the lump sum figure.

Director Vanek asked for explanation of cash advances and charges and supporting vouchers on a company expense credit card. There was a discussion about our procedure and it was to be discussed and worked out by the Supreme Lodge Officers.

Director Kohutek reported on the audit of securities and reported that four securities were in process, 81 securities were at Texas Commerce Bank Trust Account and the remainder were accounted for in the safe deposit box at NationsBank in Temple, Texas.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK — He discussed feedback from two annuity holders in District II. DIRECTOR BROZ — He discussed the Annuity Program. He discussed the need for a name change for the organization.

Director Broz complimented Financial Secretary Mikulas on his work with the books.

He reported on a Czech Language class recently held in San Angelo, with 12 students, which he thought was quite successful.

AUDIT REPORT — Director Hanus reported on the audit of the ledger. He asked for information on several items and clarification was given. The records were found to be in order.

DIRECTOR HANUS — He discussed work in his district and possible merger of two lodges.

DIRECTOR VANEK — He discussed insurance sales in his district and expressed concern that seven lodges had no sales production in 1994.

It was suggested if officers of the inactive lodges could be assembled at some location a presentation could be given to try to stimulate activities. There is authorization for food and refreshments if a presentation is made.

On a note of inspiration, Director Vanek stated that "the road to success is always under construction."

Recess was taken from 4:00 p.m. until 4:10 p.m.

DIRECTOR BAYER— He discussed his travels, sales, classes, and work in District 7.

DIRECTOR POKLADNIK — He expressed appreciation to Director Kohutek and Adeline for inviting the Board to their home for a nice social the previous evening.

He discussed his work and was complimentary to the new District 3 and 4 State Field Representative, Jerry Kucera.

POINT OF ORDER — President Leshikar raised a point of order concerning the rescinding of an earlier motion on scholarships. He held that the motion to reconsider scholarships in the morning should have limited reconsideration to whether grandchildren of Board Members are eligible for scholarships. Review of the previous minutes revealed that the motion to reconsider were addressed to general scholarships which was deemed broad enough to allow rescinding of the motion that would have transferred scholarships from the general program to the Youth Department.

AUDIT — The bids for the SPJST calendar was previously discussed and copies were available for review and discussion.

LITIGATION; THREATENED TAX SUITS AND FORECLOSURES IN PROCESS — Legal Advisor Kacir reported on status of several loans and matters.

It was agreed on motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Bayer; that when we ask for bids for the 1996 calendar, that specifications be provided to the prospective bidders. Motion carried unanimously.

BANKRUPTCIES — Legal Advisor Kacir gave an update on bankruptcies in connection with SPJST loans.

President Leshikar asked if we are going to require bids for everything that we purchase. He asked what kind of procedures we are going to use and discussion followed.

Consideration was given to the Directors' business.

TRAVEL — President Leshikar reported he planned to attend the NFCA Presidents Section meeting March 13 and 14, 1995, in Reno, Nevada.

DIRECTOR VAVRA — He questioned status of the bids on repairs of sidewalks on the undeveloped Home Office property and Secretary-Treasurer Anglin reported that no additional bidders were found.

Director Pokladnik and Director Vanek announced they will attend the Fraternal Section meeting in Corpus Christi.

He asked for status of Czech Language tapes and was informed the tapes were complete and available.

Authorization was granted to SFAC Frank Klinkovsky to attend the Fraternal Section meeting in Corpus Christi on March 25 thru 27, 1995.

AUDIT REPORTS — Director Vavra gave the audit report on vouchers and asked for information on several vouchers. He indicated that he felt that there were quite a few books and magazines ordered and the number appeared to be excessive. President Leshikar responded to several of the vouchers and stated that he and the State Youth Director were always looking for new ideas.

President Leshikar announced he would attend the Presidents' Club meeting in San Antonio on January 30, 1995.

Director Vavra asked for verification of the bid price on the SPJST calendars and was informed the bid price was $17,434. He questioned the additional charges that were submitted on the project.

It was stated that personal computers were also needed in the Secretary-Treasurer and Financial Secretary Departments.

COMPUTER EQUIPMENT — President Leshikar asked authorization for purchase of a personal computer, laser printer, and monitor for the President's Department.

10/VESTNIK—Wednesday, February 22, 1995 Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed he fact that he thought that the EDP Committee should be reactivated to consider matters such as the one at hand. The matter was discussed.

The estimated cost of the three sets of equipment was stated to be $10,000 to $12,000 depending on final determination of needs. Purchase of the equipment was authorized for the President's Department, Secretary-Treasurer's Department, and Financial Secretary's Department. The motion authorizing purchase was by Director Kohutek, seconded by Director Hanus and it carried unanimously.

President Leshikar requested purchase of a notebook computer for the State Youth Director so that she could do some of her work while out of the Home Office. On motion by Vice President Mikeska, seconded by President Leshikar, authorization was granted for a notebook computer and required software, based on competitive bids.

Motion carried unanimously.

POSTER FLYERS — President Leshikar suggested that flyers be provided for lodges for one event per year free and there would be charges for additional work. The motion was by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Vanek and carried unanimously.

Recess for the day was taken at 5:45 p.m. until 8:00 a.m., January 19, 1995.

CONTEST WINNERS — Vice President Mikeska presented a list of sales representatives who won the Las Vegas trip. Allowance for the trip is $600. The winning sales representatives do have an option to select another acceptable U.S. location and can apply the $600 on that trip.

VALUATION INTEREST RATE CHANGES — Vice President Mikeska reported that due to change in the valuation interest rate, to comply with Texas Insurance requirements, it was necessary to change the valuation interest rate on 8 plans of insurance as listed in his report. Additionally, it was necessary to change the premiums on Lone Pay Life. Vice President Mikeska moved that the required changes be ratified as identified and listed in his report. Financial Secretary Mikulas seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

LOCAL LODGE WORKSHOP — Vice President Mikeska discussed plans for the upcoming workshop set for March 11 at lodge 177, Academy. He gave a brief outline of plans and asked for input from the Board. Ideas were shared on items that should be covered. It was agreed to pay the hosting lodges $250.00 or their fee, whichever is greater.

MEMBERSHIP DRIVE — Vice President Mikeska expressed opinion that he would like to see the Society have a membership drive about mid year. The Drive Program would be developed and presented to the Board for consideration.

PURCHASE OF AUTOS — The previously approved purchase of two automobiles as replacements was ratified on adopted motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Hanus. Motion carried unanimously.

INVESTMENTS — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin referred to a list of investments made since the last meeting. After review, the investments were ratified on unanimously adopted motion by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Vavra.

INVESTMENT POLICY — The Society Investment policy was reviewed and affirmed on adopted motion by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, seconded by Director Kohutek. Motion carried unanimously.

UNIVERSAL LIFE RATE — The Universal Life rate of 7.15 percent was left unchanged through March 31, 1995. The motion was by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, seconded by Director Kohutek and it carried unanimously.

ANNUITY RATE — There was discussion about the proposed rate for Annuity I and Annuity II. The Annuity I currently pays 5.25 percent and Annuity II pays 6.25 percent to January 31,1995.

STATE OF TEXAS COUNTY OF BELL Be it remembered that at a regular meeting of the Board of Directors of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST) held at its regular place of meeting at Temple, Texas, on the 13th day of January, 1994, at which meeting a quorum was present and voting, the following Resolution was adopted.

RESOLVED: That The Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST), a Fraternal Life Insurance Society (1) believes that the insurance business is affected with a public interest and is dependent upon public confidence, and (2) expects employees, officers and directors to conduct their personal financial interest and affairs so as to avoid placing such interest in conflict, direct or indirect, with those of the Company and to avoid conduct which might impair their judgment with respect to the business of the Society.

The following are regarded as illustrative of the principal situations where such conflict may be involved: Financial Interests Employees, officers, directors or members of their families having a material interest in any corporation or unincorporated enterprise which sells goods or services to, buys from, competes with the Society in the sale of insurance, or borrows from the company and who are in a position to influence any decision by the Society with respect to such transactions.

Inside Information Employees, officers, or directors directly or indirectly using or divulging inside confidential information with respect to the Society for the purpose of securing personal profit or advantage for themselves or others or in a manner prejudicial to the interest of the Society.

Gratuities and Entertainment The receipts of loans, gifts, gratuities, entertainment, and favors of more than nominal value by employees, officers, directors, or members of their families, either directly or indirectly, that may influence any decision with respect to the Society.

While the above are illustrative of ways in which conflict may arise, the entire subject is so far-reaching and the interrelationships possible within the insurance business so complex that the avoidance of conflict rests basically upon each individual's ethical standards, integrity and judgment. Annually, on or about the time of the January Board Meeting, a request will be made of all directors, officers, and responsible employees to state in writing any activities which conflict with the policy. The statement will be as stated on the attached Exhibit "A".

However, if any officer, director, or responsible employee at any time believes he may be engaged in activities described, he should immediately report such activities to the President.

MORTGAGE LOAN INTEREST — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin briefly discussed mortgage rates and expressed opinion that rates will likely be increased at an early date due to underlying market conditions.

DELINQUENT LOANS — Secretary-Treasurer Anglin presented for consideration a list of 20 loans delinquent over three months. She reported that six loans are on a workout plan, four are in bankruptcy/foreclosure, three have acceptable deferrals, and other various conditions apply to the remaining seven loans. The Board proceeded to review the list and recommendations for action were agreed upon. The agreed actions were approved on motion by Vice President Mikeska, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas and unanimously adopted.

INTEREST RATE — Misprint of interest rates resulted on a verbal commitment to two members who relied on the commitment and it was agreed that from a position of integrity, we will honor the rate on the two mortgages.

Recess was taken from 10:25 a.m. until 10:40 a.m..

After review of profit on the last annual statement, the following rates were set effective February 1, 1995 thru March 31, 1995.

ANNUITY I - 5.75% ANNUITY II - 6.50% IMMEDIATE ANNUITY - 6.50% The motion was by Director Hanus, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried with 11 voting in favor and Financial Secretary Mikulas abstaining.

Secretary-Treasurer Anglin was asked to provide the Board with a list of assets allocated to interest sensitive products.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST — The Supreme Lodge took up the matter of stating conflict of interest, if any. The Society's procedure for reporting conflict of interest involves the signing of a statement after reviewing the adopted resolution on the matter. Each Supreme Lodge member was given the opportunity to report conflict of interest and return the signed statement.

LOSS RESERVES ON REAL ESTATE LOANS — On motion by SecretaryTreasurer Anglin, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas, a loss reserve of $23,000 was set for real estate loans. The motion carried unanimously.

Director Vanek was excused from the meeting at 11:00 a.m. as was authorized earlier.

Before leaving he stated he would make an extra effort to assure that he invited all lodges in District 6 to the upcoming workshop.

YEAR END FINANCIAL REPORT — Financial Secretary Mikulas reviewed year end figures. He reviewed his report and referred to an itemized listing of the gain in assets for the past 10 years and the 1994 gain was over $6.35 million. He compared 1993 and 1994 results and concluded that our expense performance was outstanding.

PAID UP ADDITIONS — Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the paid up additions program resulted in purchase of $901,435 of permanent add on insurance by our members. The premium refund amount allocated to paid up additions was $454,000. He stated that 69% of our members opt for paid up additions instead of premium refunds.

PROPOSED BUDGET 1995 — Financial Secretary Mikulas submitted for consideration a proposed budget for 1995 with income and expense projections. The proposed budget was reviewed on an item by item basis.

Wednesday, February 22, 1995---VESTNIK/11 After due deliberation, the proposed budget for 1995 was unanimously adopted on motion by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Broz.

DIRECTOR HANUS — He recommended that the State FAC set up a meeting of all lodge FACs in District 5.

PREMIUM REFUND TO MEMBERS 1995 -- Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the 1994 refund was at the rate of 3 percent and amounted to $662,330.52. He explained that the refunds are paid based on the mid-terminal reserve during the policy year just completed on all permanent plans of insurance that have reached the end of the fifth policy year. The program does not include certificates written under the 1980 CSO mortality table. An expense charge is deducted as follows:

Premium paying - $0.35 Paid up - $1.60 After review of recommendation of Actuary John Agee, the premium refund for 1995 was set at the same rate as the previous year. The motion was by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Hanus and it carried unanimously.

DIRECTOR BAYER — He spoke briefly and concluded that he did not have any further business needing attention.

President Leshikar, speaking in behalf of the Board, thanked Willie and Adeline Kohutek for sponsoring a social for the Board this past Tuesday.

Friday, February 10 at 10:30 a.m. was set as the meeting date for the Employees Incentive Committee.

DIRECTOR POKLADNIK — He expressed appreciation for being elected Chairman of the Board.

INDEPENDENT AUDIT — Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the audit will be conducted by the firm of Jaynes, Reitmeier, Boyd, and Therrell, RC.. Anticipated completion date is June 30, 1995. The audit is currently in process. Cost will be $12,500.

He reported he and President Leshikar would meet with the local convention planning committee in Arlington on January 24.

INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR LODGES AS OF 12-31-94 -- Financial Secretary Mikulas presented a list of status of lodges at this date and he explained that final figures are not complete and will be updated after the cut off date on January 20th.

Director Pokladnik spoke favorable on the work of State Field Representative Jerry Kucera.

ANNUITY DURATION — Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to a report showing the duration of annuities based on year of purchase.

NEW EQUIPMENT — Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed the need of an additional sheet feeder for the Pitney Bowes mail inserter is $3,225.75. The purchase was authorized on motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Mikeska and carried unanimously.

He reported on the CEFT's upcoming function.

He wished Secretary-Treasurer Anglin a speedy recovery of her broken wrist. He thanked Vice President Mikeska for serving as temporary recording secretary. He commended the Supreme Lodge officers for keeping good records and favorable findings of the audit committee.

NEXT REGULAR SUPREME LODGE MEETING —.The next Supreme Lodge meeting was set for March 9 and 10, 1995, to begin at 8:30 a.m..

There was no further business and Chairman of the Board Pokladnik adjourned the meeting at 1:40 p.m..

NEW ISSUES AND TERMINATIONS FOR 1994 — Financial Secretary Mikulas briefly referred to a report of new issues and terminations listed by plan code.

STAFF — Financial Secretary Mikulas was authorized to consider utilizing a student through the Temple High School Distributive Education Program for assistance in adding on information into our computer data base. Authorizing motion was by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Mikeska and carried unanimously.

The Board went into executive session to meet with a borrower concerning a loan matter.

The executive session was concluded.

ASSOCIATION OF FRATERNAL BENEFIT COUNSEL — Legal Advisor Kacir reported he will attend the Association of Fraternal Benefit Counsel meeting in Marcus Island, Florida on May 24-26, 1995.

SECRETARY-TREASURER POSITION — In accordance with the Convention Proceedings, the Board took up the evaluation of Lanita Anglin. The special provision of a new and replacement officer applied as to the 80 percent salary allowed by a new officer until an evaluation and adjustment take place.

Based on satisfactory evaluation, a motion was adopted to adjust the salary for the Secretary-Treasurer from 80 percent of the convention approved salary to 100 percent of the convention approved amount effective November 9, 1994. The motion was by Director Vavra, seconded by President Leshikar and carried with Secretary-Treasurer Anglin abstaining.

DIRECTOR VAVRA — He thanked the officers for submitting their report on a timely basis. He thanked Supreme Lodge members who attended the Lodge 17 Memorial Service.

He requested that the EDP committee be reactivated. He recommended that Financial Secretary Mikulas serve as Chairman and other committee members be Vice President Mikeska and Secretary-Treasurer Anglin. The motion was made by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Broz and it carried unanimously.

On motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Anglin, Vice President Mikeska was named EDP Primary Security Officer and Financial Secretary Mikulas was named Assistant EDP Security Officer. Motion carried unanimously.

Director Vavra asked if employees had been furnished with copies of the Employees Handbook and he was informed that this had been done.

Director Vavra asked what action the Board desired to take in connection with the question on using a credit card for cash advances. The matter was to be resolved by procedure requiring receipts for authorized purchases.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK — He stated a lodge had suggested that the Supreme Lodge sponsor a State BBQ Cook-Off. It was agreed that President Leshikar would bring additional information to the next Board meeting for further consideration.

DIRECTOR BROZ — He stated that new State Field Representative Jerry Kucera is doing a good job in District 4.

He stated he appreciated the good reports from the Supreme Lodge Officers. He thanked Financial Secretary Mikulas for attending the Lodge 160 dinner and meeting.

Lodge Letters Section Lodge 1, Fayetteville Reports on January Meeting Lodge 1, Fayetteville met Sunday, January 29 at the SPJST Hall in Fayetteville and the following were elected officers and directors for 1995:

He talked about the suggestion of putting in playground equipment at the SPJST grounds and that LCRA plans to, put in some type of area park with this type of equipment.

The following Lodge 1 members will achieve their 50-year milestone as members of the SPJST and will be presented their pins at the annual picnic in the summer: Joseph R. Gaither, Mary Ann Guthmann, Margie Kneblik, Bernice Wecheta, and Maxine Wrobleski.

Members are again reminded to turn in their annual report of Fraternal Activities to Irene Polansky by April 3 (reporting acts of charity for 1994).

15, Buckholts Reports on February Meeting

Lodge

On February 13, 1995, President Gladys Allison called the meeting to order at 6 p.m. and led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance. Also, a moment of silence was observed in memory of our departed members.

The minutes, treasurer's and all committee reports were approved.

We wish Milton Shiller a speedy recovery. Milton had surgery last week.

We are happy Edward Svoboda and Salena Hertenburger are doing fine after surgery.

Darrell Edward Glaser was accepted as a new member. We welcome you, Darrell, to Lodge 15, Buckholts.

Plans on going to the workshop and banquet were discussed.

In the near future (May, June or July), we will honor our 50-year, 75-year, and one member who will be 96 years old.

We are looking forward to this happy occasion. More details on this later.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, President Calvin Skrabanek called the lodge meeting to order on February 5,

The Flag Bearers Lisa Greger and Janet Baca led the Pledge to the flag.

A moment of silent prayer was held in memory of Sister Ella Haisler, who had been a lodge secretary for five years.

Sister Haisler passed away on January 19.

Her family had been active in the lodge.

May we honor her memory always and deepest sympathy is expressed to her surviving family. May she rest in eternal peace.

Roll call of officers, trustees and sales representatives was read by Secretary Dolores Skrabanek and followed by the minutes of the January 6 meeting.

The January sick list included Ella Haisler (now deceased), Vlasta Divis, Agnes Trampota, Frank Sefcik, Lydia Kotrla, Patsy Koslovsky, and Don Vrba, Sr. Get-well cards had been sent to those named. Hope you regain better health soon.

New members accepted were Patricia Coufal, Cynamon Coufal, Laura Nicole Gresak, Joyce Klinkovsky, and Ryan Klinkovsky. Transferring in from Lodge 177 were Stephen Hanusch, Matthew Hanusch, Hope Hanusch, and Wayne Lee Hanusch. Transferring out to Lodge 177 is Kenny Kelarek. Hope all named become active in the lodge activities that are included in the calendar of events.

There will be 23 lodge members who will be presented their 50-year pins on April 2 at 2 p.m. You will each be notified by the lodge secretary by personal letter as the invitation to attend. So

please try to come. This is a special day after fifty years of being a member of our Society. That is a great achievement!

There will also be an Easter egg hunt for the youngsters and maybe for the older ones, too. A covered dish supper will follow. Watch the next report for more details.

The upcoming workshop at Lodge 177, Academy will be held on March 11 and those interested had to sign up after the meeting. The banquet will be held at Lodge 80, Holland later in the day and evening. Watch the Vestnik for the times if you were a 1994 officer or are a 1995 officer and your lodge is receiving a reward.

The officers gave their reports and the various chairpersons gave excellent reports for the month of January.

Treasurer Lucy Mihatsch had received the premium refund from the Supreme Lodge. The various tournaments are coming up and the District Two Spring Meeting is on March 19 at Lodge 187, Round Rock with the election of 1995 officers. The trustees report was read by Edwin Vasicek.

The youth leader Ginger Greger reported 28 youth members, six visitors, three youngsters, and three adults present at the meeting. Jatanna Honeycutt is a new member and I had her name wrong in my last report. Sorry about that! The youth club will have a trash pick-up on Saturday, March 4, and they are asking if any adults can help to be at the hall at 8 a.m. Any help will be appreciated. The more people helping, the earlier time we will be finished. A fund raiser is be announced later.

Turkey and dressing and salads were enjoyed by all present for the lunch following the meeting.

84, Dallas President-Elect Expresses Appreciation Lodge

Dear Members and Friends, I am honored to once again be asked to serve as your president for 1995. It was unfortunate that some of our active and deserving members have not been able to finish the remainder of the year as officers. However, those of us stepping in to fill the vacancies wish them all well, and hope to see their continued involvement in the future.

This year will be filled with numerous activities by both the mother lodge and the youth clubs. Plans are being made as we speak for the 85th Anniversary in March. I will be writing further about this event as the arrangements are completed. We are also proud to be hosting the District Three Meeting at Lodge 84 on April 23. It is always our pleasure to invite our fraternal members in this district to visit, have a good meal, and take care of our business for this spring session.

I would be remiss in my letter for not thanking so many people for their help last year as well as this coming year. In only six short years, I will be celebrating 50 years as a member of the SPJST, and I could not be prouder of this organization, and my home lodge. I have been a local lodge queen, as well as the mother of three lodge and district kings, two lodge and runner-up district queens, and now the grandmother of two and one-half new members. I also have served as District Three President, both Vice Presidents, and Secretary, while active as a youth leader for over 20 years. One cannot do all of this, and watch four generations of my family (including my parents, Sid and Justine Pokladnik), work faithfully for the SPJST, without thanking my entire lodge family. All the members who have guided, influenced, and taught we younger members that the importance of fraternalism is not that everything is perfect and rosy all of the time. It is easy to come to the hall and participate when it is just the fun stuff, but fraternally, we act just as a family. When the going is hard and the times are challenging, that is when we pull together, with loyalty, humility, love, and pride.

So, in closing, a big THANK YOU to the past and present officers of Lodge 84, committee members, youth leaders, children, parents, and especially, my parents,

for giving me the example that has kept me in the fold all of these years. I am looking forward to seeing you all at our coming events.

84, Dallas Honors Member Lodge

Barbara Ann Reznik of Dallas was among students graduating with honors in fall commencement on December 17, 1994, at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches. Barbara Ann Reznik She graduated cum laude in the SFA college of business, receiving a bachelor of business administration degree with a major in finance and a minor in economics. A 1990 graduate of Bishop Lynch, she has been named to the president's all "A" honor roll twice and to the dean's honor list six times.

Barbara has been a very active member in the youth club of Lodge 84, Dallas.

She held several office positions in both the junior club and the teen club.

She was our lodge queen and represented Lodge 84 in District Three. She performed in all District Three Youth Achievement Days during her youth years.

In 1991, she was the recipient of an SPJST scholarship.

Lodge 84 is proud of Barbara in all of her achievements. We wish her success.

Lodge 87, Temple Reports on February Meeting The February 8, 1995, meeting was called to order by President Ed Reisner at 7 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was given

by Lad Zatopek and members stood in honor of the deceased members.

The secretary read the minutes from the January meeting, and they were approved as read.

The treasurer gave her report and it was approved as given.

The president gave his report. He also spoke about the forms and the activity report for 1994 given to the Home Office.

He also reported on the workshop and the awards banquet on March 11, 1995 and the necessary form was completed.

Discussion was held about honoring the sales representatives. More discussion was to be held at the next meeting.

88, Houston Reports on Anniversary Celebration

Our Anniversary Celebration turned out nicely. The dinner was very good, and Willie Wehring had a hand in that. It was a pleasure to see Editor Brian and Joan Vanicek and their two lovely children, Stephanie and Samuel. President Clara Broz greeted guests and oversaw everything.

It took a lot of workers, and I want to give credit to them. Gene Barcak had charge of the kitchen and Edna Wehring had charge of the workers. These were Laura Warnasch, Ruth Martinak, Gladys Havemann, Bernice Wahlberg, Elsie Roznovsky, Adele and Bill Hughes, Earline Hoffman, Celestine Darilek, Paul Beck, Josephine Pflughaupt, Jo Ann Buri, Mike Trefell, Dorothy and Larry Pflughaupt, Pat and J.R. Buese and Gary Brogoon.

Lillie Spies, the Birthday Club treasurer, was chairlady of the pastry booth, and she had good helpers: Ann Lacina, Tootsie Lacina, Bessie Lero, Evelyn Gutkowski, Margaret Spahr, Carol Liebscher, and Wilbertha Lacina. Thanks to the good cooks who brought so many delicious pastries.

Board member and bar manager Royal Warnasch also had good helpers: Rudy Darilek, Jerome Ermis, Bob Martinak, Ed Miculka, Larry, Leander, and Lynn Pflughaupt, and Roy Warsnach, Jr. Lowrina and Karl Lindemann were selling tickets for several hours. Lowrina is the Birthday Club president, and you can always see her busy!

Many came to the dance and really enjoyed dancing to the music of popular Lee Roy Matocha. Lee Roy was our mother's favorite band, and he always played "U Studanka" for her. Workers at the dance were Clara Broz, Barbara Linney, and Marie Stayton.

Our Choral Club, under the direction of Tim Kostom, and the Lodge Orchestra, directed by Jim Rohde, entertained during the noon hour. That was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

Chairman Willie Wehring and his Social Night Committee did a great job having bingo. I will write more about them in my next letter.

Viola Cox and her Entertainment Committee were very happy about the Valentine Dance with Bobby Lane furnishing the good music. There were so many happy guests even including guests from Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Louisiana. The many beautiful red dresses and some nice prizes also added to the gaiety!

There are still two good dances in February. These are Buddy Kirk this Friday, February 24 and the Battle Dance with Bobby Jones and City Polka Boys this Saturday, February 25. In March, we have Texas Brew on March 3, Jodie Mikula on March 4, Manny Green on

Sunday, March 5 from 5 to 9 p.m., and

Jack Melick on March 11.

Edmund J. Burke, who was a member of our lodge for 49 years, passed away recently. Our heartfelt sympathy goes to his wife, Mildred, his children, Richard, Thomas, and Linda, and other relatives.

Brief Items: We were very happy to see Anna Hoffman at the Birthday Club luncheon, her first time since she had the stroke.

Some of you missed that super spaghetti luncheon the club had.

Marian Mikes, we miss you! I often think of how you and L.A. were such loyal workers and how L.A. used to make that braised beef!

88, Houston Birthday Sisters Reports on February Meeting

Dear Birthday Sisters, President Lowrina Lindermann opened the meeting and announced a new member wished to join our club. We excepted Bess Vitovec. We are always glad to get new members and we welcome Bess into our club.

The officers then gave their reports.

Our Sunshine Chairman Mary Kosut was not with us. She and Johnny had a car accident going home from the lodge last week and Mary is at home with a neck brace. Hope she is back with us soon.

Other sick members are Josephine Pumelia. She had a kidney removed and is in Heights Hospital. Alice Bily's husband, Lad, had an appendix operation.

Margie Andris' husband, Ernest, had a heart by-pass. He is having trouble with his hearing in one ear.

Bessie Dewer was not able to cook this week. She took Frank Tilich in for eye surgery.

We also heard from Ima Lero. She misses everyone very much. She was such a faithful member in our club. She made and gave away beautiful pillows.

We hope all these members are well soon.

Our cooks for this month were Bessie Dewer, Georgia Buchanan, Josephine Buri, and Margaret Bohac. On the second week, Betty Kulhanek cooked for Bessie and Edna Froelich cooked for Georgia Buchanan.

Next month in March, Bessie Lero and Margaret Spahr will have a tuna casserole on the first Wednesday (Ash Wednesday).

The second week will be a covered dish luncheon.

President Lindemann then reported that the Rules and Regulations Committee would be meeting. Our Sisters voted that since grocers were un so much, we will be going up filly cents on our meals. The cost for the first

Wednesday will be $2.00 for members and $3.00 for guests. The second week's cost will be $1.75 for members and $2.00 for guests.

Lillie Spies then asked for cakes and workers for our Anniversary Day on February 12.

Helen Hegwood reminded members that she would be in charge of the spinning wheel for Homecoming with A Splash. She asked for gifts. So start bringing them. June is not that far off!

Willie Mae Stang won a drawing and was our Valentine Sister. She received a candy heart.

Our Calcutta winners were Inez Jeans and Marie Pokluda.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to our February sisters. Bess Vitovec had a birthday on her first meeting.

Our chaplain Pearl Hanka gave the prayer.

Lodge 154, Fort Worth Reports on February Meeting

The lodge meeting on February 12 was, as usual, very informative but the weather was cold. There was discussion about getting wooden chairs and also about building a caretaker's house because the one we have now is getting in bad shape. Watch for more details on this later.

The business card section that was in the Vestnik was very good, and I am sure it will be to the benefit of our members.

Even at that, you have to know when to play the right cards. However, believe it or not, after playing several years, I came in first but as in horse shoes, I have been close.

Taroks is a fun game and all seem to enjoy playing. The other card games are doing fine and I am sure that they enjoy the games as they continue to come play.

Not all has been fun here at Lodge 92 as several members had operations.

Sister Lillie McMillen broke her hip and had a hip joint replaced. Joy Paprskar has been in a Dallas hospital with severe illness. Brother Mike Paprskar had to have a neck operation. Rose Jaworski had knee and foot operation. Christine Zich fractured her back and several pain injunctions and now is wearing a brace.

Also, Chuck Hixson was in the hospital.

Mary Cecelia Krivanek had eye problems. We all hope and pray that these members will all start feeling better soon.

Such weather we are having—warm one day and cold the next day. Even the ground hog is mixed up. I see wild flowers blooming and even some fruit trees are starting to bud out.

By reading the Vestnik about different lodges getting new members, the sales representatives are doing a fine job for the SPJST Supreme Lodge as well as for their own lodges. All SPJST members are proud of you, sales representatives, and want you to continue the writing of insurance.

I would like to mention to some of the older members who do not attend meetings as much as you used to, you are not forgotten, like my old friends, Buel and Francis Matthews, Doma Hubenak, Elmor Svacek, Sister Prasicicka, and many more. We wish you good health and happiness. We thank you for helping to make our lodge what it is today.

Billie Starr said that his granddaughter Windie Phillips, who has had leukemia for quite awhile, now needs a bone marrow. They are asking that if anyone could donate their marrow to go to Harris Hospital for a free test. Marie Tesar reported that her grandson, John Tesar in the Air Force in Montana, just donated his marrow to a young girl in Washington and is doing fine. So if anyone can help, I know Billie Starr will be more than grateful.

Lodge 177, Academy Supports Senior Citizens Activity Center Lodge 177, Academy recently presented the Tempi Senior Citiznes Activity Center with a check for $888. Accepting the gift was Sandra Jones, who is director of the Meals on Wheels Program.

Lodge 177, Academy provides financial support for several area community service organizations.

Funds to support these worthwhile programs are generated by the lodge's Tuesday night bingo.

Weather permitting, we will meet at the hall on Thursday, February 9 at 11 a.m. to visit the Corpus Christi Museum, have lunch and take a short boat trip around the bay. It should be fun.

Camille Rolcher donated a new pair of shoes and Nettie Naugle was the lucky one for a perfect fit.

Thanks to the hospitality on February 11, 1995. The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance by President Bob Miracle.

The only order of business was to elect our first youth leader, Cheryl Brooks and her two assistants, Amy Cortasie and Susie Browder. Good luck, girls! I know you don't need it because you are going to do an outstanding job.

The meeting was then closed to begin our Valentine social. About 30 members and guests attended. We all had a great time dancing and sharing snacks brought by all.

Christi Circle of Women Reports on February Meeting Corpus

Twenty-two members and three guests met Thursday, February 2 at Sokol Hall for our February meeting.

Our guests were Jim Havranek, Marion Peterek, a friend of Jim and Donna, and Henry Kosling, attorney-atlaw. Henry gave a short talk about living wills and answered all questions pertaining to legal matters.

It was great to have Rose Huff and Pauline Novosad back with us and fully recovered. Rose thanked us for the card she received while in the hospital. Velma Malchar is the only member still on our sick list.

24, Cyclone Youth Club Reports on February Meeting Lodge

The February 12, 1995, meeting of Lodge 24, Cyclone Youth Club was called to order at 3 p.m. by President Danny Baker at Mr. Gatti's Pizza restaurant in Temple.

Flag Bearer Scott Hudson led the Pledge of Allegiance and club motto.

The register was read. There were 17 members and 16 adults present. Seven guests were introduced.

The minutes were read and approved.

Mark Macek gave the treasurer's report and the balance.

Our youth leader reported on the "Youth Night" held on January 21. The night was very successful. Over 130 persons enjoyed a night of music, dancing, games, and food.

New business discussed was a membership drive in March, the Rogers Homecoming Parade in April, and a possible May Fete in May. Youth Leader Melanie Zavodny will provide further details to members at a later date.

Committees will be set up to organize these events.

February birthday celebrants are Danny Baker and Tonya Spanhel. Youth Leader Melanie presented special birthday certificates to them and the January birthday celebrants.

Door prizes were won by Lori Coots, Jarred Eixman, David Macek, Alison Eixman, Jimmy Baker, Jennifer Ashcraft, Ryan Greger, Kathryn Cathey, and Shelly Gerich. Thanks to Brian Vanicek for donating some of the door prizes.

The meeting was adjourned at 3:40 p.m. Following the meeting, we had a Valentine pizza party. We all enjoyed having pizza and socializing.

After our party, we all attended the District Two Skating Party. We all had fun skating and meeting our friends from other lodges. There were several door prize winners from our lodge. I was so excited to win $5.00!

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Lodge 30, Taiton Youth Club met Sunday, February 5. We are very busy with a lot of things in our SPJST club.

We made Valentines to give to the ARC Citizens.

We were invited to perform our jitterbug dance to "God Bless Texas" that we won first place on at State. We will be performing at the Wharton County Cotton and Grain Clinic on Tuesday, February 14.

Mrs. Bubela has been telling us about camp and YAD in June and July.

After the meeting, we all had a fun party for Mrs. Merta and my mom, Karen Kaspar. The refreshments were so good.

Then, we practiced our group talent and worked on crafts.

Dear Vestnik Readers, On February 5, we had our Lodge 30, Taiton monthly Youth Club meeting. We made Valentines that we gave to the ARC Citizens.

The first place State Junior Group Talent that I am a part of was invited to perform at the Annual Wharton County Cotton and Grain Clinic on February 14.

It was held at the El Campo Civic Center.

As you can see, we are busy with a lot of things in our SPJST Youth Club.

After the meeting, we had a party with cake, balloons, and decorations for Mrs. Merta and my mom, Karen Kaspar. We also practiced our group talent for our February 14 performance.

92, Fort Worth Youth Club Reports on February Meeting

Dear Readers, The weekend of February 11 and 12 was a busy one for the Lodge 92, Fort Worth Youth Club.

On February 11, our youth club held their annual Valentine Dance with a cake walk and hamburgers and klobasa sandwiches served by the Youth Club kitchen.

On Sunday, February 12, we cooked hamburgers for the lodge meeting meal.

Since my dad is now president of the lodge, he was unable to cook the hamburgers. So this duty was turned over to Paxton Daves and Jerry May who did a wonderful job. The youth members prepared and cleaned up the remainder of the meal.

We would like to thank everyone who attended the dance and supported us by buying hamburgers and playing the cake walk. We had a cake decorating contest with nine cakes entered. These cakes were then donated to the cake walk.

142, Houston Youth Club Reports on February Meeting Lodge

Dear Readers, The Lodge 142, Houston Youth Club held their monthly meeting on Thursday, February 9 at 6:30 p.m. There were five youth present and three adults.

All reports were given and all were approved as read.

Under old business, we talked about the Christmas Party and play which the youth performed on Friday, December 16. It was very well-performed and fun for the youth and audience.

Under new business, we talked about all the upcoming events.

March 5 will be the District Five Spring Meeting at Lodge 172, Pasadena.

There will be a dinner beginning at 11 a.m. followed by a social. The meeting will start at 1 p.m. All youth clubs are asked to bring pastries and all pastries left over afterwards will be auctioned off and divided among all participating youth clubs.

April 1 will be the District Five Easter Egg Hunt which will be held at Lodge 88, Houston. Dying of eggs will he Friday, March 31 for all LITS and youth.

Saturday, April 8, 1995, will be the Strawberry Festival Parade in Pasadena in which the royalty will ride in the parade with the duke and duchess following with the SPJST banner. Everyone is invited to attend.

Leaders-in-training (LITs) who will be attending the LIT Retreat on June 2-4, 1995, at Camp Butman were reminded to be sure to have their forms turned in as soon as possible. We will be having four youth members attending this year.

We discussed our social for the month and decided to go to the rodeo. A date and other details were to be discussed later.

Also, some of the youth from Lodge 142 and Lodge 88 visited the SPJST Rest Home in Needville in December along with the Choral Group of Lodge 88. We served cookies and sandwiches to the residents which was prepared by the staff.

We all sang Christmas carols, and it was a wonderful day for all.

The meeting was adjourned and we all went out to eat Mexican food.
