Congratulations to Millie Stasney

Lodge 91, Crosby member achieves "Grand Age of 96" The SPJST congratulates Sister Emile (Millie) Stasney, a member of Lodge 91, Crosby, who celebrated her 96th birthday on September 11, 1994. As such, Sister Millie is entitled to all SPJST membership benefits with no further dues or assessments required. Sister Stasney received her Age 96 Certificate on December 10. Officers of Lodge 91, accompanied by District Five Director Louis Hanus, made the presentation in her home, following the lodge's Christmas luncheon. Sister Emile (Millie) Stasney was born on September 11, 1898, in Snook, Texas, to Joe John Zadrapa and Maria Fojtik Zadrapa. Millie had five sisters, one brother, three half-sisters, and three half-brothers. Her sister, Lillian Pechanec, lives in Houston, Texas. Half-sister Marca Lee Gentry lives in Highlands, Texas, and half-sister Rosa Lee Franta lives in Baytown, Texas. Her half-brother, Johnnie Zadrapa, lives in Crosby, Texas, and Jean Zadrapa lives in Highlands, Texas. In June 1919, Millie married Joe Stasney in Houston, Texas. The Stasneys had three sons: Gordon Frank Stasney

(deceased, 1967), Odell H. Stasney, who resides in Crosby, Texas, and Alvin J. Stasney, who also resides in Crosby, with his wife, Virginia. Joe Stasney passed away in 1925, leaving Millie with the responsibility of raising three young sons. Her pride and joy, she says, was to see them finish high school and all serve honorably in the army during World War Two. One of her sons, Gordon, received a Purple Heart during the Battle of the Bulge. One of Millie's claims to fame was her restaurant. Millie's Cafe, located in Crosby, was known as far away as Baytown and Dayton for its wonderful, home-cooked meals, including what many said was "the finest stew and chili in Texas." Her fried pies—which were actually baked—were also legendary. According to Millie, hard work was all that she knew. "Hard work," she says, was her hobby In her younger years, one of her greatest pleasures was going out and waltzing. These days, Millie makes her home in Crosby, Texas, where she lives with her son Alvin J. Stasney.

"According to Millie, hard work was all that she knew. 'Hard work,' she says, was her hobby."

Lodge 91 President Alvin A. Franta, left, accompanied by District Five Director Louis Hanus, presents Sister Emile (Millie) Stasney with her SPJST Age 96 Certificate. The presentation was made on December 10 at Sister Stasney's home in Crosby.
