SPJST presents "Age 96," 75- and 50-year members The year was 1899. It was the eve of a new century and great expectations abounded. There were 45 states with the promise of more to come. The annexation of territories in the Pacific and Caribbean further reflected the United State's desire to grow beyond its existing borders.

This year's Age 96 honorees were born in the 1899. As such, they will retain their SPJST membership with all privileges, and have no further assessments required.

Please join us in congratulating our members who will achieve their "Age 96" status in 1995.

Deciding What's Right for You...

It Pays to Be Prepared When it's cold outside, it can be a real treat to come in from the weather and warm up. Having adequate insurance coverage is a little like that. It's a good feeling knowing that your family won't be left out in the cold if something happens to you.

How much coverage do you really need? Such a simple question. The answer, however, requires some serious thinking. Determining what's right for you is a process that involves making some very important decisions.

Last week, I had a chance to visit with Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska and discuss the subject of needs analysis. Simply stated, needs analysis is a process that enables an individual to more accurately define his or her insurance needs. Many of our local lodge sales representatives have received or will receive training in the area of needs analysis in 1995.

"A life insurance needs analysis is based on information and assumptions gathered from a member or prospective member and reviewed and processed," Brother Mikeska explains.

"Both parties need to be prepared.

"On the one hand, the buyer needs to establish a clear idea of what he or she would like the coverage to achieve. On the other end, the sales representative must be able to digest this information and present term or permanent insurance options."

"Right now, all of our state field representatives have been trained to utilize a computerized needs analysis program.

They are available to lend assistance to our sales representatives in providing this type of customer service."

The needs analysis process involves several essential steps: Financial goals must be established in terms of dollar amounts. Available resources, including existing insurance, must be identified.

The primary function of life insurance is to replace the earning power of a family income earner and to assure the liquidity to meet the family's cash needs.

According to Brother Mikeska, one of the thrusts for the Insurance Department in 1995 is to get members and prospective members to expand their perception of what an SPJST insurance certificate can provide.

"In many instances, members view . their existing SPJST certificates simply as burial policies-money that will be there to cover final expenses in the event of death.

"Certainly, that's a very important matter to consider. At the same time, we want them to consider all of the other things that adequate coverage can provide.

"With two-income households a necessity these days, its important to consider the earning income that would be lost in the event of death. Likewise, there are other things to consider: the amount

of debt that would need to be settled and other family obligations including child careost.I'ginbdferto every individual and every family.

Everybody has a unique set of circumstances and goals that need to be considered when purchasing life insurance."

As was stated in the beginning, determining what's right for you is a decision that will involve making some very important decisions. With the New Year largely ahead of us, this would be an excellent time to make preparations for the days, weeks, and months to come.

Somewhere in there, let's make it a priority to evaluate our present life insurance coverage. You'll find that a relatively small investment today can mean significant coverage in the future.

When a local sales representative contacts you in 1995, he or she is making an effort to help protect your earning power in the event of an unforeseen loss. All SPJST life insurance certificates guarantee future income. It may be income in the case of death or it may represent income to enjoy in your later years. It may be income to give your children a good start in life or an education. Whatever, the reason, the insurance that we sell is just as much a part of the fraternal system as our lodges are places where new ideas for service are born. *** Show Someone You Care Roses are red; Violets are blue; Let someone know They are special to you!

Someone who has stood by you through the good times as well as the bad?

Someone who gives a lot and expects little in return? Someone who needs to know that somebody still cares? It could be anyone-a spouse, a child, a relative-or even a special friend. If you do, then let them know how you feel.

To make it easier, the SPJST Scholarship Department is sponsoring a page of Valentine greetings in the February 8th issue of the Vestnik. the only request is that you limit your greeting to 25 words or less. The rest is up to you. To make sure they get included, please get them into the Home Office on or before Wednesday, February 1.

Parents and youth leaders, please let your young people know that they are also invited and encouraged to participate in this project. For more information, please see page six of this issue.

Museum Curator/Librarian Fraternal Services Department Three Years of Service

In her position as museum curator and librarian, Sister Pechal provides guided tours of the SPJST Museum and assists visitors to the library. In addition to overseeing the SPJST archives, Dorothy helps members conduct genealogical research and translates various documents from Czech into English. She also assists the President's Office with staffing for various SPJST state-wide functions.

Sister Pechal attended Seaton Public Schools and is a graduate of Temple High School. In addition, she has completed various courses in museum management and operations.

Many of Dorothy's most memorable experiences of working at the Home Office involve visitors to the building. "It can be very rewarding to help someone research their family and make a connection with their past. For some, locating a 'missing link' is an emotional experience."

"I like my work," she says.

"It's a chance to meet and visit with people from all over. It's a special pleasure to visit with guests from the 'Old Country.'

They speak such beautiful Czech.

"I also enjoy the cooperation I receive from staff members."

Sister Pechal is an active member of Lodge 47, Seaton, where she has served in many capacities, including kitchen chairman, bar chairman, ticket chairman, entertainment chairman, reporter and secretary, vice president and FAC and a member of the choral group.

For many years, she supported her husband, Jerry, in his capacity as lodge president.

Dorothy and Jerry are past recipients of Lodge 47's Brother. and Sister Award. Brother Pechal passed away in 1989.

Sister Pechal has also been active on the district and state level, having represented District Two as a member of the Publication Committee.

She served as District Two treasurer for ten years and has represented her lodge as a delegate to three SPJST conventions.

A farmer's wife for many years, Dorothy and Jerry had four children, Edwin, Donald, Joyce and David. She has also been blessed with four grandchildren—"and a fifth on the way," she beams.

Apart from her lodge involvement, Dorothy enjoys gardening, yard work, dancing and singing with the Lodge 47 choral group and Seaton Brethren Church choir and serving as an active member of the Seaton Brethren Christian Sisters service organization.

Lodge 17, New Tabor Reports on December Meeting Dear Members, Lodge 17, New Tabor held its regular monthly meeting on December 4 with all officers present except Fraternal Activities Coordinator Sefcik.

A resolution was read for Paul Surovik, Angeline Perkkio and Milton Cheranza. We would like to extend our sympathy to their families and friends.

New members accepted were Amber Hodges, Cody Hodges, Kristi Phelps, Sara Emily Hejl, and George Hunter.

Members were to go to the local nursing home to distribute fruit and candy on December 11.

Due to the first Sunday being New Year's Day, our meeting was postponed to January 8 at 1 p.m. This will be a special meeting with CSA to decide what to do with a building on our property.

The election of officers was held with all officers remaining the same.

At our memorial service, we were honored to have President and Mrs. Leshikar, Financial Secretary and Mrs. Mikulas, and Secretary/Treasurer and Mr. Anglin as our guests.

Approximately 700 fans came to enjoy "Perfect Strangers" perform music for all to enjoy.

It was really a challenge for the members to provide the best they could for all the guests who come for entertainment. I mentioned in my last report about the ones who are working so hard for the lodge mainly to provide and entertain all who comes to the lodge.

Remember, Game Nights take place every Thursday and Saturday nights at 7 p.m.

79, Corpus Christi Reports on December Meeting Lodge

Our December meeting had ten folks in attendance. All officers' reports were presented. As of December 18, 1994, we have recruited and accepted 14new members.

Our youth leader, Sister Glenda Elzner, is very hopeful with the upcoming year and a new assistant. The Youth Club at Lodge 79 will be brought back to life.

New business brought our need to purchase liability insurance for our meetings, functions and traveling ventures.

This insurance is not a luxury—it is a must.

Our lodge members present voted to give a receiving blanket with the SPJST logo to each new infant covered by SPJST Lodge 79.

The District Seven Spring Meeting will be hosted by Lodge 79, Corpus Christi. Keep a pencil ready to mark your calendar for April 23. More details will follow. We hope to have a large turnout.

Our monthly charitable donation of $50 went to the Corpus Christi Children's Christmas Appeal.

All officers were reelected to their offices by acclamation.

Our next meeting will be at 2 p.m. on January 15, 1995. We will have a covered dish social following the meeting.

172, Pasadena Reports on December Meeting Lodge

Dear Members, After a delicious covered dish dinner, the December meeting of Lodge 172, Pasadena began at 7:30 p.m. on December 14.

President Alvin Sefcik welcomed members and guests in English and Czech.

After the Pledge of Allegiance, a moment of silence was observed to remember the past deceased members, especially Raymond Skrabanek, of Lodge 172. Raymond was at one time a very active and fraternal brother of our lodge and also was the past president of the State Czech Heritage Society of , .

Roll call indicated all officers present except our Treasurer Helen Schewe, due to illness.

Correspondence received was read and guests present were introduced and recognized, namely Helen Hegwood, District Five State Field Representative, and Fred Buri, his wife, and mother. Fred is District Five Vice President and Fraternal Activities Coordinator. Helen Wallace also introduced her sister who has visited our lodge several times.

Reports from the various committees were read and accepted. The members also reported on accepting one new member.

Changes to our by-laws were read and the changes were all approved by membership.

President Milton Koch called the meeting to order with 23 members and two visitors present. President Koch welcomed all and stated that at least we did not have to sweat this morning.

Our special guest did not come, but we understood. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all. A moment of silence was observed for two deceased members, L.E. Skolat and Mary V. Stavanoha.

Sister Vlasta Juricek then gave our table prayer.

We adjourned for our noon meal, which was picked up at Double C Barbecue Restaurant in Pleasanton by President Koch, Vice President Donald Valchar and Brother Valdo Benitez.

(Desserts were brought by members.)

Before resuming our meeting, Sister Bettie House passed a jar of peanut brittle and had everyone guess the numbers of pieces of candy in the jar. The winner, Donald Valchar, won the jar of brittle.

We resumed our meeting after the meal with the reading of the minutes from the last meeting. Minutes were approved as read.

Next, President Koch thanked everyone who attended our District Fall Meeting. He thanked everyone for all of the hard work and all donations for the meeting. President Koch said that the Supreme Lodge said it was the best fall meeting for our district in a long time.

Secretary/Treasurer Tillie Koch gave the financial report.

The only correspondence was for a new member, Hannah Anderson.

Vice President Donald Valchar asked members to please turn in their fraternal activities worksheet as soon as possible.

They need to be turned in to the Home Office by May 1.

Next, Sister Bettie House gave the report from the District about our fall meeting. She thanked everyone for donations and mentioned those who won prizes.

Sister Bettie House gave the anniversaries and birthdays since our last meeting. Congratulations to all celebrants!

Old business discussed was a report of finances for the District Seven Fall Meeting. Secretary/Treasurer Tillie Koch said we went "in-the-hole" just a little.

New business to discuss was a report on expenses for 1994, and Sister Bettie House made a motion to accept new member, Hannah Anderson. Vince Pivonka seconded. The motion passed.

Also, President Koch mentioned donating to the SPJST Scholarship Fund.

Sister Vlasta Juricek motioned to let it ride until next year. Sister Dorothy Bryant seconded the motion. The motion passed.

Next, Sister Vlasta Juricek made a motion to keep all of the old officers by acclamation and Sister Dorothy Bryant seconded. The motion passed.

Brother Ernest Spacek told a cute little joke while we were waiting for the door prize winners to be announced. Winners of the door prizes were James Zezula (first place), Tillie Koch (second place), and Mildred Bridges (third place).

Brother Donald Valchar motioned to adjourn and Brother Lloyd House seconded. Christmas gifts were exchanged after adjourning. What a nice time was had by all!

Our next meeting will be on March 12, 1995, at 11:45 a.m. at the Jourdanton Civic Center. Members, please attend.

The officers and members of Lodge 161 want to thank the members who donated time, baked goods and the drinks for our meetings. It is "working togeth er" that makes our meetings enjoyable.

185, New Braunfels Reports on December Meeting Lodge

On December 20, at 5:30 p.m., members of Lodge 185, New Braunfels gathered at the Bavarian Village for our annual Christmas party.

After Chris Haag led our group in prayer, our meal was served at 6:45 p.m.

Theresa Haag had prepared delicious chicken enchiladas, and side dishes were brought by each family.

A short meeting was called by our president. Officers for 1995 were installed by Sister Jarolyn Popp. This being a social gathering, no other business was discussed.

Adults and youth sat down for several games of carol bingo. This game was new to most of us but by the sound of voices everyone enjoyed it.

Our next meeting will be February 16, 1995, at the Bavarian Village beginning at 8 p.m.

Sister Annie Vrana is feeling better. She sent a Christmas card to the Circle.

"Happy Birthday" was sung to December birthday celebrants.

Chairperson Sylvia Laznovsky reported from the nominating committee. She read the slate of officers. The officers elected by acclamation were: President Sadie Jubin Vice President Emilie Harrison Secretary Linda Trojacek Treasurer Mildred Trojacek Sunshine Stacie Hejny Alice Roberts will continue to be the reporter.

Memorial for Vladis Novotny was given by Sisters Stacie Hejny and Mildred Trojacek.

Donations received were: Evelyn Slovak, money gift for winning the Circle quilt in November; Stacie Hejny, money gift for having her quilt made; Marie Fitz, our guest in November, money gift; and Sylvia I amovsky, tea.

There was no quilting done. A photograph of the Circle members was taken with Sister Sylvia Laznovsky's camera.

It looked good!

After a bountiful lunch, we exchanged gifts. We appreciated the use of the lovely Sokol Christmas tree.

The officers and the reporter received a sweet-smelling candle from the Circle.

Sister Stacie Hejny gave each officer a nice pen.

Thanks to Sisters Georgia Tupy, Libbie Wisniewski, and Ella M. Zmolek for bringing the decorations for the tables and the dessert table. Thanks also to all the others who helped decorate.

There will not be a meeting in January.

Our next meeting will be February 9. See you then.

Language Instruction and Tours Alief Independent School District to Offer Czech Class Alief Evening School under auspices of Alief Independent School District is again offering a conversational Czech course (elementary/advanced level) at Hastings High School. The location of this school is between Bellaire Boulevard in the south and Alief-Clodine in the north on the southwest side of the intersection of Cook Road and High Star Drive in the community of Alief.

The first lesson of this now announced twelve-week course, designed to develop basic skill in the Czech language wherever it is spoken, will be on February 1, 1995, and henceforth, once a week on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

Tuition, set by the school, will be $40.00. The instructor will be John J. Karas of Houston. Mr. Karas has extensive education from the Czech Republic and two university degrees from the USA. County Junior College to Offer Czech Course Tarrant

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Tarrant County Junior College of Fort Worth, Northwest Campus, is offering a Czech beginner's conversational course. It is under the Senior Education Program. Class begins on January 30 and continues through April 10.

Orientation is January 24 at 12:30 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church on 2929 Azle Avenue in Fort Worth.

Classes will be held once a week on Mondays from 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m.

Polka Dancing will also be taught the same day from 12 noon to 12:50 p.m. All other class orientations will be held at the Northwest Campus of T.C.J.C. The Northwest Campus also has some Czech class books and dictionaries.

Orientation for other classes at T.C.J.C. will be January 26, 1995, at the Northwest Campus.

Community College Offers Czech Course

Austin

A conversational Czech I class is being offered at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, beginning January 24, 1995, to March 9, 1995. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Reagan Campus Room 443.

Anyone interested in learning Czech will be interested in taking this course.

No knowledge of the Czech language is required. Emphasis is on vocabulary and pronunciation.

to the Czech Republic and Study Czech Travel

Travel to the Czech Republic and study Czech with people from all over the United States. The study tour will be from July 3 to July 28, 1995. The group leaders will be Thadious Polasek of Texas and Helena Landovska of Prague, Czech Republic.

Housing and food service will be at the dorms of the Agriculture School at Suchdol in the northern part of Praha.

Instruction will be by professors of The Charles University and a linguistic institute in Praha. Along with the classes, there will be cultural excursions in Prague: tours of the Prague Castle, picture galleries, the Old Town, and much more. There will also he out of town excursions to Kutna Hora, Southern Moravia, Telc, Karlovy Var, and Hradec Karlovy.

You need not have studied Czech to be a member of the group. If you are flying to the Czech Republic, call and ask for the group price and compare and save on your flight. 88, Houston to Offer Czech Class Lodge

Well, it took a little encouragement to get him to agree, but Mr. Bill Souchek has agreed to teach another Czech Class this year. Accordingly, Mr. Souchek's 30th Czech Class is scheduled to commence February 6, 1995 at 7:30 p.m. at SPJST Lodge 88, 1435 Beall Street and will consist of ten classes.

Our Czech classes have been educational, informative and fun in helping us with our knowledge and ability to speak Czech, our native language. Class attendance has been excellent. We are especially proud of those who continue to attend, even though they live in such distant places as Dayton, Sweeney and Conroe.

Class participation in the "mini" presentations in Czech has been improving.

Our students look forward to them being a part of every class. One of Mr. Souchek's conditions to teaching the 30th class was that we get the rest of the class involved in the presentations.

We recognize the sacrifices that Mr. and Mrs. Souchek make in teaching these classes and we are very grateful. We thank them and all others who help in making this class the best Czech class in Texas.

In Memoriam Expression of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge 23, Moravia, in behalf of our membership wish to express our sympathy to the family of our departed member, BESSIE (SOCHA) KUSY-KUBOS. Sister Bessie (Socha) Kusy-Kubas passed away on Tuesday, December 6, 1994, in Stevens Convalescent Center in Hallettsville, at the age of 95.

She was born on September 29, 1899, in Palkovice, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of John and Frances (Kula) Socha.

She attended public school in Palkovice, Morava, Czechoslovakia from 1905 to 1913. She lived in Palkovice until the age of 21, when she came to America.

She entered the United States at Ellis Island, New York in December 1920.

She came to St. John and the Velehrad area in Texas in Lavaca Country where she was a resident for 75 years.

In 1981, she was able to return to the land of her birth in Europe for a brief visit with relatives and friends after being away for 60 years.

On November 11, 1924, she was united in marriage to Edward E. Kusy at St. John's. On February 14, 1948, her husband passed away. On October 4, 1949, she married Charles Kubos. On January 15, 1967, he passed away. She was a housewife, a member of Ascension Catholic Church in Moravia and SPJST Lodge 23, Moravia.

Survivors are three daughters, Marcella Kusy Pelzel of Rosebud, Sydonia Kusy Swaim of Metairie, Louisiana, and Jerrilyn Kusy Patek of Houston; a stepdaughter, Edna Kubos Janak; two sons, Valentine B. Kusy of Needville and Oscar Kusy of Schulenburg; nine brothers and sisters; 22 grandchildren; and four great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Frances Socha; her first husband, Edward E. Kusy; her second husband, Charles Kubos; an infant daughter, Annie Mary Kusy; a son, Edward E. Kusy, Jr.; and a grandson, Steven Kusy.

Rosary was recited by her granddaughters-in-law Peggy and Monica Kusy on December 8 at 7 p.m. at Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Home in Schulenburg.

Services were conducted at 10 a.m. on Friday, December 9 at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Moravia, Texas.

Rev. Brian Crookes officiated.

Burial followed in the SPJST Cemetery in Moravia under the direction of Schwenke Baumgarten Funeral Home of Schulenburg.

Pallbearers were grandsons, Edward J. Kusy of Schulenburg, Michael Kusy of Schulenburg, Kenneth Kusy of Needville, Alvin D. Berger of Houston, Eddy A. Swaim of Metairie, Louisiana, and great-grandson Jeffrey Singleton of Hewitt.

Honorary pallbearers were grandsons Rod Pelzel of Mission Viejo, California, Kevin Kusy of Needville, and James Kusy of Schulenburg.

Expression of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge 142, Houston, on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed brother, EDWIN "DARVIN" BRAZDA, age 60, of Houston, who died November 29, 1994.

He served his country in the Air Force for four years during the Korean Conflict and was a United States Postal Carrier for 31 years.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 36 years, Jo Ann Brazda; daughters, Margie Richard and husband Anthony, and Loretta Hooper and husband Rick; son, Edwin Brazda, Jr.; sisters, Frances Cook, Lillian McAffee, Mildred Ellison, and Viola Casarez; beloved grandchildren, Shawn, Kevin, Edwin III, Rickey Jr., Matthew and Chelsea; numerous nieces, nephews and their relatives.

Mr. Brazda was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Celestine Brazda; brothers, Joe, James, and George; and sisters, Adela and Celestine.

A Vigil service was held on Thursday, December 1, 1994, at 7 p.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 6622 Haskell.

The Funeral Mass was recited on Friday, December 2, 1994, at 10 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church with Father Ben Smaistrla, Celebrant. Interment followed at Davis-Greenlawn Cemetery in Rosenberg, Texas.

Expression of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge 139, Danbury, on behalf of our entire membership, extend our sincere sympathy to the family of OLDRICH DVORAK, who passed away on Saturday, December 3, 1994, in Danbury.

Brother Oldrich was born on March 12, 1926, in Orchard. He grew up in the farming community of Wallis. He was a resident of Danbury since 1961. Mr. Dvorak was married to Martha Lillian Prihoda on November 13, 1956, and she

preceded him in death on July 16, 1993.

Brother Dvorak who played the violin beautifully, inherited his musical talent from his great-grandfather, Antonin Dvorak, the famous classical Czech composer. He retired in 1991 after being employed by Brazoria County Precinct Two for 30 years. He was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church of Danbury.

Survivors are two sons, Anthony Dvorak of Danbury and Willie Prihoda of Damon; four daughters, Martha Ann Polasek and Marilyn Shipman, both of Brazoria, Cynthia Grandjean of Lake Jackson, and Angie Hendrick of Angleton; two brothers, Leonard Dvorak of Houston and Charlie Dvorak of

Rosenberg; one sister, Elsie Jan of Damon; six grandchildren, Gerald Hendrick, Kevin Grandjean, Nathan Hendrick, Tiera Shipman, Cole Grandjean, and Jesse Shipman.

A rosary service was held at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, December 5 at the Palms Chapel of Roses in Angleton.

Services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 6 at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in Danbury with Father William Oliver officiating.

Pall bearers were K.I. Bennett, Danny Jan, David Kern, Terry Novak, David Oaks, and Glenn Ryan.

Internment was at the Sts. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Cemetery in Damon.

District Six Director Matt Vanek congratulates Needlecraft Contest winners at the District Six Fall Social. They are First PlaceHelen Zabransky; Second Place Charlene Borak; and Third Place Elsie Maschek.

The SPJST District Six Fall meeting and social was held Sunday, November 13 in Victoria. with Lodge 97, Placedo hosting the event.

Youth attending represented lodges from East Bernard, Hallettsville, El Campo-Hillje, Placedo, and Taiton.

The day began with registration for an ornament contest and each club having a prize drawing booth. A noon meal was served, followed by an adult business meeting.

Marcy Dorotik, District Six Youth Counselor, summarized the youth's activities held during this past summer as follows: SPJST Camp was held in June at Camp Lone Star near La Grange. Youth across the district attended the camp.

Leaders-in-Training from camp were recognized and presented thank-you gifts.

An educational tour was taken in July to Galveston.

District and State Youth Achievement Days were held in July and August.

Youth were congratulated on their participation and accomplishments.

Newspaper articles and photos representing the activities that took place within the organization were on display. The Lodge 30, Taiton first place scrapbook and poster were also on display.

Youth from Lodge 30, Taiton invited to the Texas Fraternal Congress in October were recognized. The SPJST State first place senior group talent performing their "Grease" skit were Craig Dorotik, Craig Dornak, Jeanine Dorotik, Sarah Dluhos, Valerie Roye, Curtis Dorotik, Rachel Dluhos, Crystal Roye, and Shara Dluhos.

Many youth participated in the District ornament contest. The winners were:

13, Dime Box Youth Club Reports on December Activities Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers, I would like to thank Ray Ann Ford and Jan Perry for organizing such a funfilled month for us at Lodge 13, Dime Box. On December 2, Santa came to downtown Dime Box. On December 11, we participated in a Christmas program, had a chili dinner, and exchanged gifts. Then, on December 19, we hosted a District One Social and a little dance.

Clubs providing entertainment for the afternoon were El Campo-Hillje with poem selections, Hallettsville with Czech songs, and Taiton with song selections and their jitterbug routine to "God Bless Texas".

The day ended as each lodge gave away prizes from their youth club booths and also the District Six Youth Give-AWay.

After that, we sang Christmas songs and played games. We also opened our Christmas presents. We brought canned goods for the needy, and we donated to the 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive. We made centerpieces for our contest and put them on the tables where we ate.

On December 15, 1994, we took the centerpieces to the Garden Villa Nursing Home and the Hilije Czech Catholic Home. When we were at the nursing homes, we sang Christmas songs, and visited with the people who live there.

They gave all of us some cookies and punch. We had a good time. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Lodge 84, Dallas Youth Club Reports on Christmas Program Dear Readers, On Sunday, December 18, Lodge 84, Dallas youth and teens presented the yearly Christmas program after the covered dish dinner. Reporters told about Jesus' birth.

Collette Kenney played the piano and Lyne Smith played the guitar to accompany the singing of Christmas carols. Santa came and gave a bag of goodies to every kid. Everyone had lots of fun!

Youth Club Reports on District Three Lock-In Dear Readers, District Three had their annual lock-in on Friday, December 2 for the youth and teens.

At 12 o'clock (midnight), the youth played cops and robbers. Everyone also brought a $5 gift to exchange.

The next morning, we went to the Adolphus Children's Parade in Downtown Dallas. Later that day, we attended Holiday in the Park at Six Flags.

We were very tired after our long, fun weekend.

97, Placedo Youth Club Enjoys Christmas Party Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers, On December 5, Lodge 97, Placedo had an exciting Christmas party. There was delicious food, great entertainment and good people.

We began the evening with ham and plenty of yummy side dishes. After we ate, we began the activities. The youth presented a little skit titled "Night Before Christmas." We also sang songs and traded gifts.

Lodge 97 Youth Club also has three new members, Victoria, Hector, and Renee.
