Holiday Ornament Contest Brings Color to Home Office Tree

During the month of December, members are invited to visit the SPJST Museum to view the Youth Christmas Tree and see the wonderful and imaginative ornaments that our young people have created for this special tree. The museum is located on the ground floor of the SPJST Home Office Building at 520 North Main Street in Temple.

Apply Now for SPJST Scholarships The time is now for seniors and undergraduates to apply for SPJST scholarships for the 1995 academic year. Scholarship applications will be accepted through December 31.

Funded by the SPJST and voluntary contributions, the Scholarship Program is administered by the SPJST Supreme Lodge as an investment in our young people. To be eligible to apply for an SPJST scholarship, one must have an active SPJST insurance certificate in force for at least one year at the time of application. The applicant must hold an active SPJST insurance certificate for the duration of the scholarship.

To receive their scholarship, winners are required to attend a college that offers programs leading to a bachelor's degree in the United States of America, accredited by a recognized accrediting body.

Students applying for a technical scholarship must plan to enroll in a technical program of 18 or more months.

Thank you. *** Customer Service UpdateCourtesy Makes a Comeback I just started reading an interesting book by business strategist Tom Peters called Liberation Management. The book, published in 1992, is a collection of case studies about businesses that are making a conscious effort to meet the needs of tomorrow's changing marketplace.

It's a big bookmore than 800 pages-and I haven't finished it yet.

However, I've read enough to identify what appears to be the emerging theme: That it isn't enough these days to think or even talk about customer service: Every action, every daily task and every communication must project the service message. Further, all departments or groups within an organization-regardless of their specialty or length of service-have the capacity to contribute to or detract from the mission. In short, there are no "bit players." Everyone has an important job to do.

Member Services Directory The deadline for getting your business listing in for the "SPJST Member Services Directory," is fast approaching. The directory will be printed as a part of a special edition of the Vestnik in January 1995.

As its name suggests, the SPJST Member Services Directory will be a listing of SPJST members who are in positions to provide various products and services for other SPJST members-kind of like our own yellow pages. There will be no charge for directory listings and the only prerequisite is that you are an SPJST member.

The directory will make every attempt to include the broadest range of service providers-everything from accountants, auto mechanics and caterers to musicians, beauticians and attorneys. This also applies to members who deliver home health care or companion care to senior citizens and/or childcare services. Parttime business owners and those who produce seasonal commodities-ranging from farm produce to firewood-are also encouraged to participate. Likewise, those members who operate sideline businesses-everything from Amway to Tupperware are encouraged to participate. The whole concept is based on the idea of "members helping members."

Businesses all across America are rediscovering the wonderful effects that teamwork and trust can have on improving customer service and employee attitudes. What the market demands, says Peters, are organizations that establish high expectations-and then give their people the direction and support necessary to get the job done.

A lot of what the book has to say is just plain common sense: Customer service revolves around simply being courteous and treating people with respect ...

One of the keys to building new business is getting people involved.

Successful products, membership campaigns and activities don't just happen.

The first step involves establishing a trust. In a fraternal society, it's a conscious activity that takes place when we work together to live up to the goals and ideals we have established in the name of fraternalism.

Stephanie Herring Clerical Assistant Secretary-Treasurer's Department Four Months

In her position as clerical assistant, Sister Herring performs a range of support services, including typing, filing, and paying certificate loans and surrenders within the Secretary-Treasurer's department. In addition, she is responsible for depositing mortgage loans and bonds with the Society's various banking institutions.

Stephanie was born and raised in Georgia. After graduating from the Heritage Christian Academy in Douglasville, she came to Texas to visit her sister.

During the course of her visit, she met her husband to be, Cory Herring. The two were married a short time later.

Stephanie and Cory have a two-anda-half year-old daughter, Macy.

When she isn't at work, Stephanie enjoys spending time with her little girl. "I really love arts and crafts but my 'special interest' is my daughter. I try to give her as much time as I can."

Stephanie joined the SPJST Home Office staff in August. "She's been just wonderful to work with," says Supreme Lodge SecretaryTreasurer Lanita Anglin, who hired Stephanie. "She's very conscientious and capable at what she does. We just started training her on the annuities.

She'll soon be assisting in that area."

In addition to her on the job training, Stephanie attended Temple Junior College with an emphasis on English and medicine.

Letters from the Lodges Lodge 4, Hallettsville Reports on November Meeting Dear Members, Lodge 4, Hallettsville met on Sunday, November 6, 1994, at the Hallettsville Youth Center beginning at 2 p.m.

President Annie Vahalik called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and the singing of two songs in English and Czech followed.

Jim Wiest of Rockport was recognized and welcomed as a guest.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes from the last meeting.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Joe Siptak reported on SPJST activities and tournaments. Treasurer Helen Zabransky then presented her report.

Margaret Smotek, Chairman of the Sunshine Committee, reported that the monthly bingo party for the rest home residents will be Monday, November 28 at 2 p.m. Mary Matula was omitted from the list of members who brought cupcakes to the October party.

Correspondence was read.

Annie Vahalik was selected as our Lodge Fraternalist of the Year.

The members voted to contribute to the Hallettsville United Way, Bluebonnet Youth Ranch, Hospice of South Texas and Lavaca County Senior Citizens Program.

Youth Leader Annie Vahalik reported on the youth club activities. They are planning a Christmas program and a visit from Santa for our December meeting.

15, Buckholts Reports on November Meeting

Lodge

Lodge 15, Buckholts held its monthly meeting on November 14 at 6 p.m. with President Gladys Allison presiding.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence was observed for our departed members.

The minutes were read and approved.

The treasurer's report was also given and approved. All committee reports were given and approved.

One of our new members, Michael Hughes and his wife, are the proud parents of a new baby boy.

We will be repairing our barbecue pit cover. We have already replaced our wheelchair ramp with one that is wider and more sturdy than the old one.

We are proud to be working on activities for next year. We will be hosting a Tarok tournament on June 10, 1995.

Jim Wiest spoke to the members about his job and the various benefits of the SPJST. The meeting was adjourned. The members then enjoyed singing several Czech songs. Lunch was served and enjoyed.

24, Cyclone Invites Members to Christmas Party on December 11 Lodge

Dear Members, Please make plans to attend the Lodge 24, Cyclone Christmas Party on Sunday, December 11, 1994, at Flag Hall.

47, Seaton Completes Another Successful Czech Instruction Course Lodge

The Czech classes for 1994 are now completed. It was very gratifying to see so much interest in our community from people wanting to learn to speak the Czech language.

We had an attendance of 25 to 34 persons at each of our 16 classes. This speaks well of our instructor, Brother Nick Morris, who presented a balance of humor in the classes, coupled with his great knowledge of the Czech language and the history of our heritage. Thank you, Brother Morris, for the fine job you did. It was appreciated by all of us.

It Was a Pleasure ...

I wish to take this opportunity to express my pleasure and satisfaction (and thanks) to the people who attended and finished the recent second session (semester if you like) of Czech classes at Seaton Star Hall which ended on November 22. The nicest part of the experience was the fact that just about everyone who started the class also finished the class. Everyone's attitude and cooperation was just great!

I especially want to thank Frank Klinkovsky and Dorothy Pechal for their excellent cooperation and assistance in setting up the classes and "props" for the instruction of the class. It would have been difficult without their assistance.

Thanks to all of the students and Instructor Nick Morris for their interest in the Czech language.

I enjoyed the two sessions and from the comments, both verbal and written, those attending did also. I hope — and feel sure — that the "students" gained a great deal from the classes. I did my best to make the instruction both substantive and a pleasure, with a little humor thrown in on occasion.

81, Needville Reports on November Meeting Lodge

Fifty-one members and guests attended the November 1994 meeting of Lodge 81, Needville held at the hall on Sunday, November 20.

Our noon dinner consisted of turkey and dressing, vegetables, salads, and desserts brought by the lodge sisters. The turkeys were baked and donated by Mr. and Mrs. Alvin- Blinka and Mr. and Mrs. Gilbert Walzel. The Walzels also donated sausages for the meal. The delicious dressing was donated and prepared by Victor and Mary Werner. The members of the lodge would like to express sincere

thanks to the Blinkas, Walzels, and Werners. Sister Mary Werner and her kitchen committee would like to thank everyone who brought food and helped in the kitchen.

At 1 p.m., President Adolph Macha opened the business meeting. Kristy Jablonski led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silence was observed in memory of departed members, Lydia Psencik and Fred Chalupka.

All officers were present except Vice President Vincent Joe Newman, who was tending to a sick water pump.

The members were pleased to see Louis Hanus, District Five Director.

Other guests included Autumn Somers visiting from Florida, Joe Polasek, Gene Polasek, Joyce Polasek, and Louis Kadlecek. It was also nice to see Eddie Kuban with his wife Sharon and their children, Blake and Melissa.

President Macha read correspondence received from the Supreme Lodge.

Secretary Mary Werner read the minutes from the October meeting which were approved as read. Correspondence read

by Secretary Mary Werner was a thankyou letter from Louise Newman. The lodge wishes Sister Newman a speedy recovery with her broken arm.

October reports were accepted as read from Treasurer Willie Mae Kuykendall and Special Fund Chairman Gilbert Walzel.

On our sick list are Frank Brdecka, Leroy Boasak, and Willie Miller.

Jeanette Newman has agreed to resume the reporter position for the November and December meetings.

Director Louis Hanus addressed the members and brought news from the Supreme Lodge. Brother Hanus is always a welcomed visitor.

Brother Gilbert Walzel reported on the need to remove a dead Sycamore tree located on the lodge premises. After a minor discussion, Brother Walzel said he would look into the cutting and disposing of the tree.

Brother Walzel also stated that the lodge copying machine was in dire need of cleaning. It was agreed upon by lodge members to have it cleaned. Brother Walzel also reported that a new barbecue pit would be needed in the near future.

Lodge members also agreed on making ice in the lodge's icemaker for meetings.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank Alvin Blinka's grandsons for cleaning out the gutters on our lodge.

During the meeting, it was decided to give ten $5.00 door prizes for the December meeting. Willie Mae Kuykendall agreed to send Christmas cards to the shut-ins. President Macha said he would send a Christmas fruit bas-

107, Floresville Reports on November Meeting Lodge

Lodge 107, Floresville held its meeting on November 13, 1994. Minutes were read and accepted. Secretary Pavliska was absent.

Two new members were admitted into the lodge. They are Branden Jacob Korus and Taylor Rose Korus. Welcome to Lodge 107.

Reports from the Fraternal Activities Coordinator and the District Seven Family Fun Day were announced. Lodge 107 had winners in several categories. President Bayer gave a report on the results of the Peanut Festival Booth and also on the donations towards the oak tree fund.

Our December 11 meeting will be a covered dish meal. Each family is to bring a covered dish including meat, side dish, and dessert.

The youth club will meet at 2 p.m. and the adult lodge will meet at 3 p.m. The meal will be served after the adult meeting at about 4 p.m.

All members, please note that due to the return to standard time, our meetings will start one hour earlier.

130, Dallas Reports on November Meeting Lodge

Our regular meeting was held on November 20 with Keith Shinn presiding.

We opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance and the reading of the minutes by President Shinn in the absence of Secretary Stanley Vrla.

Postponement of approval of the minutes was voted on because the minutes were presented in rough draft form. Brother Eugene Parma gave the treasurer's report which was approved as read.

The beseda dancers will not be going to San Angelo this year to perform at the Christmas at Fort Concho festivities. Our next performance will be at Old City Park in Dallas for the Christmas weekends there.

Sister Albina Vrla reported that the Fraternal Council meeting was held on November 14. Holiday donations in the amount of $100 each were made to seven worthy organizations. The Fraternal Council's Christmas party will be held on December 12 beginning at 6:30 p.m. at Lodge 84, Dallas. All are invited.

Lodge 84 has once again graciously included us in their Christmas party plans. The party will begin at 4 p.m. on December 18 and members are asked to bring a covered dish. Lodge 130 will

hold a short business meeting at 4 p.m. before the festivities begin.

The proposal from Sokol concerning the property settlement was discussed once more, and will be more thoroughly detailed at our next meeting.

Nomination for officers will be postponed until that time, too.

Lodge 133, San Antonio held their regular monthly meeting on November 20 at St. Margaret Mary's Activity Center in San Antonio.

A delicious Thanksgiving Luncheon was enjoyed by all. A special thank you to our members who provided an assortment of side dishes and delicious desserts.

142, Houston Reports on November Meeting Lodge

Dear Readers, Lodge 142, Houston held their monthly meeting on Sunday, November 13 at 2 p.m. The meeting opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The roll call indicated that all officers were present. Board Chairman Robert Kieschnick was absent as he was out of town.

The register showed 38 members and eight visitors present at the meeting.

The secretary read the minutes from the October meeting. They were accepted with corrections.

Correspondence was received from Marilyn Spivey, Fraternal Activities Coordinator. She reported that the lodge activities in the incentive program are going well. She also reported on the Las Vegas trip in February and the SPJST decals for members' vehicles. She encouraged members with businesses to take part in the Member Services Directory yellow pages.

All officers' reports were given and accepted.

The youth club report was presented

by Youth Leader Elizabeth Hermis. The youth club thanks the members who donated items for their raffle. Those members are Gus Florian, Rita and Henry Hermis, Ruth and Howard Kieschnick, Frank and Dorothy Tumis, and Josephine Buri.

Brother Louis Hanus spoke to the members. He complimented the youth on the good job that they are doing. He told us about the new Modterm insurance which is now in effect. He also explained what the IRS is looking for in regards to fraternal lodges.

State Field Representative Helen Hegwood wished everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. She talked about the new Modterm insurance and stated that it is very competitive for persons ages 20 to 60 years of age. Helen also said that Lodge 142 will be achieving an award for 1994.

District Five Youth Counselor Marie Stayton reported on the District Youth Counselor's meeting and she expressed a great deal of pride in the youth at Lodge 142.

Everyone looked forward to seeing Rubie Bath step up to the microphone to announce the winnersof the SPJST door prizes.

Lodge 183, Arlington will have their Christmas party on December 10, 1994, at the lodge. Dinner of turkey, dressing and trimmings will be served at 5 p.m. and the dance will be from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Santa Claus will make a surprise visit for all of the children, so bring a specially wrapped gift for your child with your child's name on it. Santa will then spend some time with each child and present them with their gift.

Lodge 187, Round Rock Hosts Tip Party On October 23, 1994, Lodge 187, Round Rock hosted its semi-annual "Tip Party".

Various activities included a horseshoe pitching tournament, card games and domino games. The youth club sponsored a cake walk and a silent auction.

Throughout the afternoon, SPJST door prizes were given away.

To top off the afternoon, a delicious meal of fish and shrimp was served.

The party was certainly enjoyed by all who attended.

Mervin Boydston made sure everyone registered for door prizes as they arrived at the lodge hall. (See photos, page 7.)

Make sure to circle December 11 on your calendar. The Christmas Party is scheduled for 4 p.m. that day. The general meeting will he at 3 p.m. The election of directors will take place then.

Community College Offers Czech Language Course

Austin

Conversational Czech I Course No. CSC 2-322-040 Class is being offered at Austin Community College in Austin, Texas, beginning January 24, 1995, to March 9, 1995. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. at the Reagan Campus Room 443.

Anyone interested in learning Czech will be interested in taking this course.

No knowledge of the Czech language is required. Emphasis is on vocabulary and pronunciation.

Expression of Sympathy On behalf of the entire membership of East Bernard, Karel Jonas Lodge 28, we, the Resolution Committee, wish to express our deepest and sincere sympathy to the family of our departed sister, ANN MEUSER. Funeral services for Ann Klecka Meuser, 79, of East Bernard were at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 9, at St. John's Catholic Church in Hungerford.

A rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 8 at Davis Chapel in East Bernard. Father -Gerard Cernock conducted the services. Internment was at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg.

Ann Meuser was born January 2, 1915, in East Bernard. She passed away on November 7 in Houston. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard, SPJST Lodge 28 for 79 years, the American Legion Auxiliary, and AARP. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Meuser; her parents, John and Carolyn Klecka; two sisters, Lessie Lavendusky and Lillie Sliva; and two brothers, Felix Klecka and William Klecka.

She is survived by a sister, Evelyn Sodolak of Sealy; four brothers, Frank Klecka of California, Johnnie Klecka, Sr. of Dickinson, Rudolph Klecka of East Bernard, and August Klecka of East Bernard; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Johnnie Klecka, Jr., James Klecka, Edward Klecka, Billy Klecka, Byron Lueck, and Hubert Sliva.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in East Bernard.

Mrs. Psencik died on October 22, 1994, at Polly Ryon Memorial Hospital in Richmond. She was born October 25, 1902, in Austin County, the daughter of Frank and Rosie Shefcik.

She was a member of St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and the SPJST Lodge 81, Needville.

Survivors include her son, Floyd Psencik of Rosenberg; one daughter, Alice Gregory of Angleton; one sister, Ann Dickerson of Clute; grandchildren, Randal Stewart Psencik, Leonore Psencik, Don Psencik, David Gregory, Kenneth Psencik, and Diane Gregory, and great-grandchildren, Lauren and Amber Psencik, Michael and Michelle Gregory.

He was a heavy equipment operator, an avid reader, and a small engines hobbyist.

He was an Army veteran and member of the Knights of Pythias.

Survivors include his wife, Judy Watson of Watauga; three sons, Robert Watson of Fort Walton, Florida, Walter Watson of Whiteface, and Gary McMurray of Roanoke; four daughters, Billy Kay Thompson of Arkansas; Victoria Pierce of Fort Worth, Mitzi Watson of Arlington, and Lisa Watson of Weatherford; four sisters, Nita Banks, Violet O'Neal, Reba Johnson, and Donna Merle, all of Fort Worth; three brothers, Earl Watson, Grover Watson and 011ie Watson, all of Fort Worth, 16 grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

We, the Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge 154, Fort Worth and on behalf of our membership, wish to express our sincere and heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge sister, MILLIE (KADERKA) KUBALA, who died on Sunday, November 20, 1994, in a Fort Worth hospital at the age of 97 years.

Sister Kubala was born on July 18, 1887, to Fred and Josephine Kaderka, who had immigrated from Czechoslovakia to Texas.

In 1919, she married Rudolph Kubala in La Grange, Texas. He is deceased since 1982. They farmed in Pilot Point before moving to Fort Worth.

Sister Kubala was preceded in death by her son, Emil Kubala in 1981.

Survivors are five daughters, Martha Janca, Albina Henson, Helen Halford, Hermina Muse, and Bernice Janecka, all of Fort Worth; one sister, Mary Schmit of Bartlett; 13 grandchildren; 17 greatgrandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren.

Vigil was Tuesday, November 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Mount Olivet Funeral Home.

Funeral services were Wednesday, November 23 at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial was in Mount Olivet Cemetery.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Douglas Janecka, Rudy Janecka, Alfred Janecka, Roy Frank, Gary Henson, Curtis Muse, Mike Muse, and David Halford.

Josef Bunata The story of Josef Bunata is an illustration of a typical Czech-American journalist in the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Bunata's most significant contribution to the Texas-Czech culture was his edition of Pamatnik Cechoslovaku (The Czechoslovakian memorial volume) in 1920. His memoir was published in the 1936 edition of the Amerikan narodni kalendar Bunata suffered some misfortune as a Czech-American journalist which resulted in his resignation as editor of the Delnik Americky, and moved to Boston, where he became a cigar maker.

Although he and his family did well in Boston, a strike broke out, resulting in the loss of his job. Because he was on the strike committee, he not only lost his job, he was also placed on a black list which

We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge 81, Needville, on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed sister, MILLIE VRUBL, age 90, a long-time resident of Rosenberg. She passed away on Wednesday, October 12, 1994, at the home of Dr. John and Millie Youngberg in Berrin Springs, Michigan.

Born December 17, 1903, in Przno, Moravia, Czechoslovakia, she was the daughter of Frank and Rozina Janicek Vrubl.

She came to the United States with her parents at the age of eight years and lived in Granger and later in Dallas, before coming to Rosenberg in 1935 to care for her young cousins, Walter George and Millie Mae Urbrish, on the death of their parents. She resided in the family home at 2420 Avenue until about two years ago when she moved to Michigan to live with the Youngbergs.

A memorial service was held in Berrin Springs on Thursday, October 13 and in Rosenberg on Saturday, October 15 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, where she was a long-time member.

She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Rose and Joe Vasek of Littlefield, Texas, and her cousins Millie and John Youngberg of Berrin Springs and their children, John Neilan and Wesley Scott Youngberg and their families, and Walter George and Lucile Urbrish and their children, Walter George Urbrish, Jr. and James Harley Urbrish, all of Rosenberg.

Dr. John Youngberg and the Rev. Larry Duffy conducted the service at the W.O.W. Cemetery in Rosenberg.

During the period of idleness, he read a great deal and corresponded with his former workplace. It was through this correspondence that he learned that the first Texas Czech newspaper, the Slovan, was in need of an editor. Bunata earned the funds necessary to make the trip by selling Slovan subscriptions. When he arrived in Bryan, he brought with him more than three hundred Slovan subscriptions.

Bunata lived much of his life in New York, the Midwest and Texas. He lived out his final years in Ennis, Texas where he died in 1934.

Youth Letters Section Lodge 4, Hallettsville Youth Member Reports on District Meeting To All Those Vestnik Readers, How is everyone? I am just fine.

A couple of weeks ago, there was an SPJST meeting in Victoria. Many things took place. We ate, had a cake walk, had a meeting, gave out door prizes, and after all this, we sang Czech songs. Other lodges did other kinds of skits. Everyone had a good time, and that is what is important, isn't it?

We also had an ornament contest. The first place winner's ornament from each age division gets to be displayed on the Christmas tree at the SPJST Home Office in Temple. Unfortunately, I only received third place, but I am still proud of myself.

I was so lucky to meet all of the gorgeous, brilliant, magnificent, and beautiful women that were at camp in the summer. It was like a class reunion or any other reunion. Everyone was reunited. It made me feel so good to see Mrs. Staff, Mrs. Kaspar, Marcy and her mother, whom I had never seen before but I did hear a lot about, and everyone else.

Anyway, I had a lot of fun at the meeting held in Victoria. If you ever need any luck, just rub on Mary or Frank Matula.

Frank Matula, who is my great uncle, won a set of SPJST dominoes, many door prizes and a cake or two at the cake walk.

Mary Matula, my great aunt, won a numerous amount of ribbons in the baking contests, many cakes, and a CD/radio player. She was very lucky. All day I kept hinting that I sure would like that CD/radio player but she didn't catch it.

Mary Matula is my Grandpa Svetlik's sister. That is how I am kin to her.

Anyway, overall, I had a blast. Well, until next month, I'll catch ya later, alligator!

Our Christmas ornaments did well with Nicholas Vahalik, Elizabeth Wagner, and James Svetlik placing. Also our youth club sponsored a cake walk which did very well.

Dear Readers, The Lodge 13, Dime Box Youth Club

held their monthly meeting on October 29. The meeting was called to order by President Matt Ford.

I read a Halloween poem. We also made a craft. After the meeting, we went on a hayride to Mr. and Mrs. Biehle for hot dogs. We then went to a spook house. We had a lot of fun. Thanks to my dad for pulling the trailer.

On Sunday, October 16 was the District One Ornament Contest. Sue Ellen Flippin won first place and Delia Wiederhold won second place in their age groups. Emily Jatzlau won second place in the Ages 6-8 years group.

On November 6, the Lodge 17, New Tabor Youth Club meeting was called to order. We had 31 members present and

At the meeting, we talked about the money we raised at the raffle and cake auction. Every youth member did a very good job and we also wrote thank-you notes to our buyers.

For the month of November, we wished ;a Happy Birthday to Cheryl Cannon, Lacey Jones, Kim Mayes, Vince Morehead, and Elizabeth. Happy Birthday!

Under new business, we talked about the Christmas party lock-in that we are going to have. Everyone is also encouraged to participate in the t-shirt design contest.

Towards the end of the meeting, we had a guest speaker from the Caldwell Fire Department. Thank you for coming out and speaking to us about fire prevention.

The meeting was adjourned at 4 p.m.

Lodge 13, Dime Box Youth Member Enjoys District Fun Day Dear Vestnik Readers, I attended the District Fall Fun Day at Lodge 17, New Tabor. Though the rain gloomed the day, the fun filled the hall.

I got my first shot at playing SPJST football. The meal was delicious.

Two members from Lodge 13, Dime Box and I placed in the Christmas ornament contest. I won second p!ace in the Ages 6-8 group. Sue Ellen Flippin won first place in the Ages 12-14 group and Delia Wiederhold placed second in the Ages 12-14 group. I had a good time!

Youth Club to Present Christmas Program on December 11 Dear Members and Friends, The Lodge 24, Cyclone Christmas party is this Sunday, December 11. The party will begin at 3 p.m. with a social hour. The Youth Club will begin the memorial service at 4 p.m.

Following the memorial service, the youth members will present a very exciting program that you will not want to miss.

I called the North Pole and I talked to Mrs. Claus. She said that Santa Claus will be in Central Texas on Sunday, December 11. He will stop in at Flag Hall to gather all of our Christmas wishes.

Santa will also distribute gifts. If you would like someone to receive a gift, please bring one.

A turkey and dressing dinner will follow the youth program. Members are asked to bring desserts.

Youth Club Reports on November Meeting Dear Readers, The Lodge 142, Houston Youth Club held their monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 8, 1994, at 6:30 p.m.

The first topic of discussion was the Czech Day at Lodge 172, Pasadena on October 23. The District Five Royalty were in attendance all dressed in Czech costumes. There was a delicious meal served and a nice program.

We also attended the Czech Day at Lodge 88 on October 30 where the District King Jason Hermis and Queen Misty Setliff presented their speeches along with Duchess Amanda Hermis and Duke Michael Scheilder. There was also a very wonderful program put on by various different Czech groups and a dance.

It was a very enjoyable day.

Several of our youths along with the Lodge 88 Youth participated in the State Volleyball Tournament which was held on the weekend of November 19. We did not place in any of the top categories but it was an enjoyable experience for all who attended. Special thanks to Jo Ann Buri, Marie Stayton, Barbara Linney, Fred Burl, and Dennis Hermis for all of their help during that weekend.

We will be visiting the rest home on December 10, 1994. We will be bringing fruit and various gift items to the rest home residents as our Christmas giving and charity.

Also, the youth will be presenting a Christmas Program at the Lodge Annual Christmas party which will be held on Friday, December 16. We will be decorating the hall in the week prior to the program.

The monthly social that we attended was the Houston Aeros Hockey game on Sunday, November 27. A nice group of us attended and had a great time.

The meeting was adjourned and we all went out to eat.

Lodge 187, Round Rock Reports on October and November Events Dear Vestnik Readers, The SPJST Lodge 187, Round Rock Youth Club met on Sunday, October 23 for a short business meeting. There were 11 members present.

Following the meeting, youth members joined the adults in the annual "Tip Party". The party also included the youth club's fund raiser. Members and guests enjoyed the cake walk, country store, car racing and a silent auction. The youth members would like to thank all of those who participated in this most successful event. We thank those who brought items for the silent auction and to those who bid up to the end, thanks for the cakes and country store items.

The November meeting was called to order by President Alyson Holman.

There were ten youth and five adults present. New members welcomed were Kenneth Meyer, Michael Johnson, and Lindsey Johnson. Welcome and we hope you will join us at our meeting and activities.

The youth club will visit the Taylor

S.P.J.S.T. Nursing Home on Saturday, December 10. We will meet at the nursing home at 10 a.m., visit with residents and pass out Christmas angels which we made following the November meeting.

After our visit with the residents, we will have our youth club Christmas party at Mr. Gatti's in Taylor. Members voted to exchange gifts of $5.00 to $7.00 limit.

The gift can be for either a girl or a boy and will be exchanged by a draw of number game. Parents are also invited and can also join in the gift exchange if they wish to bring a gift.

I would like to thank all of the members for the warm welcome you have given to me the past few months. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with the Round Rock Youth members. You are a great group of young people. I will miss seeing you each month, but will look forward to seeing you at all of the upcoming events in 1995.

I also look forward to working with the new youth leader and hope the new year will be the best ever for all of you.

May all your holidays be safe, healthy and happy.
