Eight teams play in state tournament
Academy and Waco top field in SPJST volleyball play by State FAC Frank Klinkovsky Volleyball teams representing Lodge 177, Academy and Lodge 66, Waco took top honors in the SPJST State Volleyball Tournament held Saturday, November 19 at Bruceville-Eddy High School. The Academy team received the First Place trophy in the spiking division at the SPJST State Volleyball Tournament by forfeit due to late cancellations by other teams. The Academy team came ready to play and they participated in the NonSpiking Division with the understanding that they would not be competing for trophies or prizes. The team won all of their games. The First Place winner in the NonSpiking Division was the No. 1 Team from Lodge 66, Waco. The SPJST congratulates winning teams from the following lodges. Spiking Division First Place Lodge 177, Academy Non-Spiking Division First Place Lodge 66, Waco -Team No. 1
Second Place Lodge 88, Houston Third Place Lodge 200, Bruceville-Eddy - Team No. 1 Fourth Place Lodge 66, Waco - Team No. 2 We were very pleased to have eight teams participating in the tournament this year. We also had a youth group from District Five enter the contest. We were glad to see them and the good crowd of spectators and followers they brought with them. All of the players appeared to enjoy themselves. A few were even overheard saying that they would come better prepared next year and walking away as winners. The SPJST expresses its thanks to all of the players and spectators for devoting their time and for the high degree of fraternal spirit which they displayed. We had several teams which were unable to participate this year; however we will be looking forward to seeing them—as well as new teams—at the 1995 SPJST State Volleyball Tournament.
The Mad Fratters team from Lodge 177, Academy won First Place in the Spiking Division and posted the best overall team record for the tournament. Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar presents the First Place trophy in the Non-Spiking Division to the No. 1 Team from Lodge 66, Waco.
