magine the Possibilities Where Credit Is Due ...

The month of July has been designated by the Supreme Lodge to acknowledge the efforts of our local lodge sales representatives. Certainly, there's no harm in giving credit where credit is due.

Let's give our volunteer sales force positive feelings about their accomplishments and their future.

Under the direction of Supreme Lodge Vice President Leonard Mikeska, the SPJST is working to develop new strategies to address field operations and product marketing. The recruiting and training of new volunteer sales representatives also remains a top priority. How well they are able to perform depends on several factors ...

What can we to help ensure their success? We can help by talking up the many positives of the life insurance products available through the SPJST. The extraordinary value of life insurance is a story that is seldom told.

At the same time, we can communicate with others, news of what our local lodges are doing to improve life in our communities. Through these kinds of discussions, we can help attract new members to our fraternal order.

Management also has its own set of obligations it must fulfill. Establishing clear cut and quantifiable goals and objectives is paramount. In today's business climate, the importance of longrange fraternal planning has taken on monumental proportions. In the course of setting policy, management must strive to establish an equitable union between the business itself and the members who own it. One cannot exist without the other.

Conducting training classes in the art of selling is another important exercise in management meeting its obligation.

These classes enable our sales representatives to sharpen their abilities and help them to better identify the needs of prospective members. Training classes are now being held with increasingly regularity around the state.

The world has changed considerably since the SPJST was founded in 1897.

With approximately 1,800 life insurance companies in business today, the availability of insurance is no longer the issue it once was. What is an issue; however, is the continued ability of our lodge system to attract new members and serve as an effective centerpiece in our fraternal society. For our volunteer sales representatives to "be all they can be," the SPJST must also achieve its full potential.

Some genuine opportunities do exist for the SPJST in this rapidly evolving environment-if we are prepared to seize them. We must be ready to forge anew spirit of cooperation and a new vision of our Society ... This does not mean sacrificing fraternal principles like democratic control and governance. What it does mean is thoroughly exploring new possibilities for business and fraternal service in our communities. A dedication to planning has everything to do with ensuring a bright future for the SPJST. *5*

A Refresher Course in Enthusiam This past Sunday, I had the chance to attend the District Two Youth Achievement Day hosted by Lodge 24, Cyclone.

It was a good program and I was able to visit with a lot of the good folks from around the district.

I won't get into a lot of details regarding the contest winners, as I know District Youth Counselor Patsy Koslovsky will provide a thorough listing of all winners in an upcoming issue.

Something I did want to acknowledge, however, was the content of the speeches presented by the young people who participated in the District Two Royalty Competition. I was mightily impressed.

One of the common themes focused on "team potential"-how working together, we can accomplish much more than when we work apart. Most of us, I am sure, know and believe that. Still, it does a body good to get a little reinforcement in that area from time to time ...

Others talked about their membership in the SPJST and what it has meant to them. Their youth club experiences, they say, have provided them with wonderful memories and the chance to develop their self-confidence and cultivate social skills. That's also very important and its good to know ...

It was a positive and uplifting experience to be around so many young people with so much faith, imagination and optimism in the SPJST. If your district still hasn't had its Youth Achievement Day, please mark the date on your calendar Attend and let our young people know that their energy and continued support is appreciated. It will be the driving force for our Society in its second century.

Please note that State Royalty and State Youth Achievement Day will be hosted August 6 - 7 at Lodge 24, Cyclone and at the Mayborn Convention Center in Temple. More details appear on pages 10 and 11 of this issue.

Letters from the Lodges Lodge 6, Cottonwood 97th Annual Picnic This Sunday, July 17 Dear Members: As FAC of Lodge 6, I want to remind everyone that it is time for our 97th Annual Picnic on Sunday, July 17. We will he needing our members to come out and help put on this picnic. We will be working on Friday, July 15, starting about 6 p.m. Then, we will get together again on Saturday, July 16 at 9 a.m. We will prepare much needed items on that Saturday. On Sunday, July 17, we will start making preparations at 4:30 a.m.

Everyone's help will be appreciated.

We want to invite everyone for a delicious fried chicken and sausage dinner with all of the trimmings, starting at 11:30 a.m. At 1 p.m. an auction will be held' and games will be furnished by the youth club.

With a successful picnic, we are able to donate to our local communities. We hope to see many of you on Sunday, July 17.

17, New Tabor to Host Tarok Tournament This Saturday, July 16

Lodge

SPJST Lodge No. 17 in New Tabor will he holding their Fifth Annual Tarok Tournament this Saturday, July 16, 1994.

Playing will begin at 9:30 a.m. Prizes

will be awarded. The entry fee is $12 and includes the noon meal, snacks and prizes.

Everyone is welcome. We would be very happy for you to come out and play taroks with us.

The SPJST lodge hall is located about three miles east of Caldwell. In the city of Caldwell, when you traveling on Highway 36, take Farm Road No. 166 east toward Tunis. Go about two-andone-half miles and take the second road on the left. This is County Road No. 225.

The sign also says "Hus Encampment" and it will lead you to the lodge hall. We hope to see you there.

47, Seaton Invites Participation in Barbecue Cook Off Lodge

Lodge 47, Seaton will be having their second annual CTBA-sanctioned Barbecue Cook Off on July 22nd and 23rd, 1994. Entry fee is $40 to compete in one or all of the categories (brisket, pork and chicken). Prize money will be $100 for first place - overall; $75 for second place - overall; and $50 for third place - overall. Trophies will be awarded for First, Second, and Third Places and also for the best pit.

Friday night's entertainment will feature a karaoke bar with Melissa being in charge, from 8:30 until 11:30 p.m. This is our first time for karaoke at Seaton Star Hall, so come out and join in the fun or just listen and be entertained.

The kitchen will also be open and will be serving hamburgers, french fries and nachos, so come hungry. The kitchen will also be open during the day on Saturday.

Two of our members, Mrs. Slanina and Mrs. Walla, passed away. We also have some sick members, including Fred Schneider and Gerald Bily, who will be undergoing surgery. In fact, he already

had one kidney surgery a week ago. His father, Lad Bily, says that he is doing very well but that he will have to have the other diseased kidney operated on in a few weeks. We are hoping and praying that he will recover from these surgeries. Deaths reported in June were Pauline Kachtek, Elizabeth Schiller, Frank Lamza, James Orlando, Joseph Orlando, Paul Raymond King, Raymond L. Anderson, Ronnie Wayne Reed and Anna Pech.

Entertainment Committee Chairman Viola Cox says that we did well in the month of May. Please note that our six month dance schedules are now available. They cover the months July through December.

Vice President Marceil Malak had received a proclamation from our Houston Mayor Bob Lanie that was read to those who attended the monthly meeting in June.

President Jerry Ermis gave a favorable report on our Homecoming on Sunday, June 5. A good time was had by all.

(Remember the upcoming Czech Day at our lodge. It will include a turkey dinner, starting at 11 a.m. and entertainment throughout the day. The Parade of Costumes will be at 5 p.m. and is really something to look forward to. There will also be a free dance with music by the Vrazels.)

Willie Wehring, our chairman for the Social Night Committee, gave a good report. I hope that everyone will give credit to Willie for all the work that he does. All of us love to work for Willie, as he does everything willingly and with a smile; however, the smile disappears sometimes when the "kids" mess up the

President Lowrina Lindemann reported for the Birthday Club. Lillie Spies also thanked everyone who brought pastry and helped her in the pastry booth.

Lowrina invited everyone to our Birthday Club activities which take place on the first two Wednesdays of each month.

The Assistant Chairman of the Men's Club announced a "work day" for all who are able to give a hard day's work and paint the hot water heater. He also reported that a raise of $75 a month was given to Paul Beck. Our famous Men's Club does wonders around our lodge. How we ever did without them will be hard to understand.

Chairman of the Auditing Committee Vernon Hegwood gave the figures on the books from the committees and said that they were all well-kept.

Naomi Spencer, who is president of the Dramatic Club, gave her report. She is very busy trying to get free dance entertainment for the "Womanless Wedding." The program will be on September 25. We do have the talent , so help Naomi and Tim who are trying so hard to make this a worthwhile program.

161, La Parita ourdanton Reports on Quarterly Meeting Lodge

SPJST La Parita Lodge 161 held its quarterly meeting on June 12, 1994 in the Jourdanton, Texas Civic Center. 24 members and three guests were called to order by President Milton Koch. The Pledge of Allegiance was proudly said by all and followed with a moment of silence for Brother Bernie Gebala.

Sister Vlasta Juricek gave the table prayer and President Koch welcomed everyone. A special welcome was extended to District Sales Representative Jim Weist.

We adjourned for a delicious meal of chicken tenders, cole slaw, potato salad and all of the trimmings. (President Koch and Vice President Don Valchar picked up our meal at the Double "C" BBQ Restaurant, just outside of Pleasanton.)

Brother Ernest Spacek and wife, Gussie, provided the coffee and Brother Lloyd House and wife, Bettie, provided the iced tea. Delicious desserts were provided by Virginia Valchar, Dorothy Bryant, Mildred Bridges and Helen Zezula. Oh, yes—President Milton Koch provided taped music during our noon meal.

Our meeting continued with President Koch asking District Seven Sales Representative Jim Weist to speak to the members. First, Brother Weist recognized President Koch and Tillie Koch on celebrating their sixth wedding anniversary on June 11. Next, Brother Weist informed our lodge that Brother Leonard Mikeska is the new Supreme Lodge Vice President with the passing of Brother Bernie Gebala. In turn, the SecretaryTreasurer's position had also been filled.

Brother Weist also stated that the SPJST was slowly losing members and since Lodge 161 Secretary-Treasurer Tillie Koch has worked for so many years as sales representative for our lodge, our lodge needs to look for a new sales representative. Sister Tillie Koch said that she will do what she can to bring in new members for Lodge 161.

Brother Weist also reported that the Supreme Lodge had a new set-up for annuities, paying a rate of interest up to 6 1/2 percent. Brother Weist thanked members for our hospitality.

Activity Report

Every Monday morning, Olie Eixman, Willie Mae Tielke, Ruby Lee Oberhoff, and Alice Bergen came to have sing-a-long.

Every Tuesday morning, Frank Ramos came to have Bible Study. In the afternoon, Annie Stavinoha, Toni Kramer, Marge Rowley, and Cecilia Lopez came to have bingo.

Every Thursday morning, Father Ramsey, Milton Legendre, Annie Stavinoha, and Rosie Kovar with the St. Michael's Catholic Church came to have Mass. In the afternoon, the Damon, Catholic, Immanuel, Methodist, and Presbyterian ladies took turns coming to have crafts.

Every Friday, Melva Hastings, Mildred Novak, Martha Marx, Marge Rowley and Cecilia Lopez came to roll hair.

Every Sunday morning, Annie Stavinoha and Rosie Kovar came to have Rosary. The Knights of Columbus came to give Communion.

On Wednesday afternoon, June 1, Rev. Bell came to have services.

On Friday morning, June 3, Ada DeHart, Luther Cooper, Annie Trapp, and Julie Murrile had lunch with the senior citizens at the Immanuel Church

President Koch thanked Brother Weist for coming.

Next, President Koch asked for the reading of the minutes from the previous meeting. The minutes were approved as read.

Secretary-Treasurer Tillie Koch read the Financial Report. She also informed members that Lodge 161 donated $25 to the SPJST Scholarship Fund in memory of Brother Gebala.

President Koch next read a letter he received from the Supreme Lodge, informing us of President Clinton wanting to tax all annuities and asked members to write to the President and legislators about of Christ.

On Wednesday morning, June 8, Peggy and Patty came to sing. Thanks to Sarah, Emma, Katie and Co-Co for singing for the residents.

On Wednesday afternoon, June 8, Rev. Avery came to have services.

On Sunday afternoon, June 12, Rev. and Mrs. Knitt came to have services.

On Wednesday, June 15, the residents enjoyed-Red Day. Staff and residents dressed in red. A party was held in the afternoon which included red cake and punch. The table was decorated with a red tablecloth, red cups and plates. The home was decorated with red balloons.

On Thursday afternoon, June 16, Garland Hurtye and Mary Ann Goffinett with the Fort Bend Humane Society brought pets for therapy.

On Friday morning, June 17, Ada DeHart Luther Cooper, Annie Trapp, and Sophie McDougle had lunch with the senior citizens at the Immanuel United Church of Christ.

On Sunday morning, June 19, all men received a boutineer for Father's Day. On Monday afternoon, June 20, Ed Pisklak provided music on the accordion.

On Friday afternoon, June 24, the birthday party was held. "Happy

A Flower and Gift Shop provided the corsage and boutineers. The Immanuel Ladies provided the cakes. Volunteers Melva Hastings, Mildred Novak, Elsie Mahlmann, Nora Mesecke, Hester Bain, and Cassidy Christ helped serve ice cream, punch and coffee to all.

Happy Birthday for the month ofJune went out to these residents: Annie Trappy, Emma S. Tielke, Sophie McDougle, and Arnold Petrusek; and to these staff members: Sheila Tyler, Diane Lincoln, Brenda Schulze, Celia Plata, and Ivonne Zela.

On Tuesday evening, June 28, Larry Ognoski, George Lolley, and Fritz Koehne provided music and singing.

On Wednesday afternoon, June 29, Rev. Avery came to have services.

The residents enjoyed all of the activities during the month of June.

Thanks to all denominations of churches and to the volunteers who do services in the home for the residents.

Brother Valchar told members about Flag Day ceremonies in Temple and that the Supreme Lodge gave 88 scholarships this past school year, thanks to the "100 Pennies" Scholarship Drive held every year.

Sister Bettie House then gave her report from the district. She also presented a pen, from the Supreme Lodge, to Jim Zezula for being Lodge 161's Fraternalist of the Year. Sister Bettie House reported that District Seven had the "top three" sales representatives.

Anniversaries and birthdays were read

by Sister Bettie House. Congratulations to all celebrants!

Under Old Business, President Koch asked where we could host the District Fall Meeting. Sister Bettie House checked at the VFW Hall in Jourdanton and President Koch suggested the VFW Hall in Poteet. Sister Bettie House said that at the VFW Hall in Jourdanton, kids could play out back and perhaps the adults could have horse shoe pitching or washer pitching. Brother Lloyd House made a motion to have the District Seven Fall Meeting on October 23, 1994 at the Jourdantori VFW Hall. Brother Vince Pivonka seconded. The motion passed.

Under other Old Business, Sister Bettie House asked members to bring old eye glasses and FAC officer asked members to report mistakes in the Vestnik to the Reporter. He asked members not to take it upon themselves to make corrections and sent them in. That is the reporter's job.

Under New Business, Sister Bettie House said that she would see that our District Fall Meeting is placed on the District Calendar of Events.

Door Prizes were awarded as follows: First Prize - Henry Mann; Second Prize Mildred Bridges; and Third Prize - Sam Bryant.

President Koch thanked members for coming and thanked those who donated coffee, tea and desserts.

Brother Don Valchar made a motion to adjourn and Sister Virginia Valchar sec onded the motion.

Members, Lodge 161 La Parita, will have its next quarterly meeting at the Jourdanton Civic Center on September 11, 1994 at 11:45 a.m. in Jourdanton, Texas.

179, Warrenton Reports on June Meeting

Members of Lodge 179, Warrenton met on Thursday, June 9th for their regular monthly meeting.

President Harold Bergmann brought the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was lead by President Bergmann. There were 23 members and five guests present. Those in attendance included District One Director Andrew Vavra and his wife, Lola.

All reports were read and approved.

Old and new business was discussed.

The June birthday celebrant was Doris Eckerman.

Celebrating an anniversary in June were Doris and Elgene Eckermann.

District One Director Andrew Vavra presented a 50-year membership pin to Dan Marek on behalf of Lodge 179.

There was also a surprise presentation of plaques to President Harold Bergmann, Treasurer Lee Leonhardt and to First Vice

185, New Braunfels Enjoys Annual Summer Picnic Lodge

Members of Lodge 185, New Braunfels were guests of the James McDonald family at the Preiss Heights Park by the Guadalupe River for our annual summer picnic on June 16th.

Members started gathering at 5 p.m.

Some of us enjoyed swimming while others enjoyed visiting in the shade of the beautiful large pecan trees.

Dips, chips, hamburgers (cooked by Mr. McDonald), dishes of vegetables and luscious desserts were enjoyed by the approximately 45 to 50 members in attendance.

We were happy to have as guests at our picnic, Audrey Nolte and Betty Paradise, sisters of Dwight Doeppenschm idt.

At 8:15 p.m., President Haag called a short business meeting. All officers of our lodge were present.

Youth Director Theresa Haag reported that the youth had recently enjoyed a day at Sea World in San Antonio.

President Haag expressed our thanks to the McDonalds for having us at the private park for our summer outing.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned.

In Memoriam Expression of Sympathy We, the officers and members of SPJST Lodge 160, San Angelo, wish to express our sympathy to the family of our departed sister, VIRGINIA LORENE ENGLE, who passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 1994 in a San Angelo hospital.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Thursday, June, 2, 1994 at the First Baptist Church in Paint Rock with the Rev. Paul Terry officiating. Burial followed in paint Rock• Cemetery.

She was born February 19, 1925 in Ellis County. She• had owned and operated Engle's Cafe in Paint Rock and had worked for Mikeska Gin in Eola and was a member of the Eastern Star in Paint Rock.

Survivors include a son, Butch Engle of Paint Rock; a daughter, Edna Graham of Paint Rock; her mother, Beulah Mae Summers of O'Donnell; two brothers, Jodie Summers of Paint Rock and Eddie Summers of Gatesville; four sisters, Inez Lee of Gatesville, Veda Fleming of Paint Rock, Wynell Perrin of Amarillo and Pat Shubert of Coahoma; seven grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren.

Expression of Sympathy The members of Lodge 180, Burleson, extend our deepest sympathy to the family of MARTHA HRABAL, who died Monday, June 13, at the age of 71.

Mr.s. Hrabal was born in West and had lived in Burleson since 1975. Funeral mass was held at St. Ann Catholic Church where she was a member. Burial was in Burleson Memorial Park.

Mrs. Hrabal was a charter member of Lodge 180, Burleson. She had many hobbies, including fishing, bingo, camping, and cooking. For many years she contributed many hours of her time to the lodge.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rudy Hrabal, on May 31, 1984.

Survivors include two sons, R.J. "Buddie" Hrabal of Arlington and Roger D. Hrabal of Weatherford; a daughter, Mary F. Krueger of Colorado Springs, Colorado; a brother, Frank Rejcek of Waco; three sisters, Mary Frederick of Garland, Elizabeth Vrana and Lillian Fuller, both of Ennis; and six grandchildren.

The family suggests that memorials be made to Huguley Hospice, P.O. Box 6337, Fort Worth, Texas 76115, or to the American Cancer Society.

of Sympathy We, the officers and members of SPJST Lodge 160, San Angelo, wish to express our sympathy to the family of our departed sister, LAURA IVIAE BRADEN, who died Friday, June 10, 1994 from injuries she received in an automobile accident.

Rosary was held at 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 12, 1994 at Johnson's Funeral Home. Mass was Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Ambrose Catholic Church in Wall, Texas with Monsignor Larry Droll officiating. Burial was in St. Ambrose Catholic Cemetery.

Laura was a loving and giving person.

She had been active in all sports. She had been a student at Wall School for eight years, and then she transferred to Christoval her freshman year. She was on varsity basketball and track, and was a member of the Metera Mets softball team, where she was coached by her special aunt, Polly Box, of Metera.

Laura was born October 11, 1978 in San Angelo.

Survivors include her parents, Tommy Braden of Wall and Jackie Braden of Christoval; three sisters, Clyda Jo of Wall and Jessica and Jennifer of Christoval; her maternal grandparents, Jack and JoAnn Daniels of Christoval; her stepmaternal grandmother, Alice Lemmons of Pearland, Texas; her paternal grandparents, Ernest and Annie Braden of Wall; and a very special friend, Thomas McCrohan of Christoval. She is also survived by many cousins and aunts and uncles.

Laura will be missed by all her friends and loved ones.

Pallbearers were Joshua Osgood, Jerrod Daniels, Jason Glass, Jeff Schwertner, Chad Box, Scott Abbott and Mark Jackson.

Services were held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, June 15, 1994 in Johnson's Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. George Cooper of Grace Temple Baptist Church officiating. Burial was in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens.

She was born on September 8, 1932 in Mullins, Texas. She was a member of the Central Faith Baptist Church. She was a well-known musician. She and her piano brought beautiful music and joy to many throughout her years. Her kitchen table was known to-everyone for a good cup of coffee, a good meal, a good laugh or a heart to heart.

She leaves behind her best friend and loving husband, Glen; a loving mother, Olive Herrington "Big Mom"; a son, Lynn Massey and wife, Donna; a daugh ter, Cheryl Bradley and husband, Bruce, a

daughter, Donna Jayne Dula and husband, Pat; and a son, Randy Whitworth an wife, Martha. She was "MeMa" to five grandchildren, Brendan, Russell, Tony, Chuck, and Shanda, and one greatgrandchild, Tyler.

She was a guardian angel with a caring, compassionate_ heart with a firm hand.

Expression of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 17 Navy Tabor, on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed sister, JOSEPHINE JUDITH HAJOVSKY, who died Jun 22, 1994 at her home in Caldwell.

Sister Hajovsky was born November 27, 1915 in Weimar, Texas to Frank and Josephine Holub Kocurek. On July 3, 1938 she was married to Adolph Hajovsky. For many years she assisted her husband in operating their Western Auto Store in Caldwell. She was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church where she was active in the Altar Society and Rosary circle. Flower gardening was one of her favorite pastimes.

She is survived by her husband, Adolph Hajovsky of Caldwell; a son and daughter-in-law, Adolph George and Barbara Hajovsky of Cameron; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia Ann Kutach and Agnes and Jim Wilde, all of Caldwell; a brother and sister-in-law, Frank and Edith Kocurek of Schulenberg; four sisters and two-brothers-in-law, Martha Hranicky, Viola Holub, Mary and Richard Hranicky, all of Wallace and Elsie and Jerry Kalina of Moulton; and six grandchildren, Belinda, Carol, Stephen, Susan, Jeff and Andrea.

Funeral services were held June 25, 1994 from St. Mary's Catholic Church in Caldwell with Rev. Scott Mikkleson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. A Rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the chapel of the Phillips & Luckey Funeral Home in Caldwell.

She is survived by two well-known nieces, Doris Hruska Darilek and Dorothy Hubenak Novak and many more nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass was at Christ The King Church with interment in Holy Cross Cemetery in Houston, Texas. Greatnephews served as pallbearers.

She was horn November 12, 1927 in Frenstat to the late Frank and Mary Knezek Charanza. She was selfemployed as a day care provider. She was a member of Professional Caregivers Association and Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church and a member of SPJST Lodge 32, Victoria.

She is survived by daughters Pat Trapp, Debbie Vaneli, Sandra Koutny and Yvonne Frederick, all of Victoria; brothers, Clarence Charanza, Joe Charanza and Edwin Charanza, all of Caldwell; and seven grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Baumann; a son, Franklin Baumann; parents, sisters, Lydia Schumacher and Vernice Mantheir and brother Ben Charanza.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m. on June 7 at Rosewood Funeral Chapels.

Services were at 10 a.m. on June 8 at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, the Rev. Michael Harrold officiating.

Burial was in Resurrection Cemetery in Victoria.

Pallbearers were Alfred Vanelli, Allan Vanelli, Morris Ray Delorey, Tom Bleeker, Mike Charanza, Kenneth Charanza and Larry Eggemeyer.

Visitation began at 11 a.m. Sunday, March 13 at Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville. The body lay in state at Kubena Funeral Home until 9 a.m., Monday, March 1, at which time it was taken to St. Peter Lutheran Church, Hallettsville. Services were conducted at 10 a.m. Monday with the Revs. Bob Lee, Charles Treptow and Herb Beyer officiating. Burial followed in the Hallettsville City Cemetery, under the direction of Kubena Funeral Home, Hallettsville.

Funeral services for Vince J. Balcar, 86, of Rosenberg, were held Saturday, April 9, 1994 at 2 p.m. at Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg. Interment followed at Greenlawn Memorial Park in Rosenberg. Dr. Glen E. Eckols officiated.

Vince J. Balcar was born October 21, 1907 in Dime Box, Texas. He passed away April 7, 1994 in Houston, Texas.

He was a member of the Rosenberg Brethren Church and SPJST Lodge 186, Caldwell.

He is survived by his wife, Anna Rose Balcar of Rosenberg; son, Ronald Balcar and wife, Harriet, of Missouri City; brother, Jodie Balcar and wife, Julia Ann, of San Antonio; grandchildren, David Balcar of Houston and Lisa Seibel and husband, Andy, of Round Rock; greatgrandchildren, Marissa and Katherine Seibel of Round Rock.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Davis Funeral Home in Rosenberg.

Mr. Valigura was also highly active in his church. He had been baptized and confirmed in Dime Box at St. Joseph Catholic Church and was a past president and current member of the Board of Elders for the Caldwell Brethren Church.

Mr. Valigura served his church in many capacities during his lifetime, including serving as Chairman and Board member of the Hus School encampment in New Tabor, as well as being a past Sunday School Superintendent. He was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 186, Caldwell for 50 years. He was a lifetime resident of Burleson county and enjoyed gardening, working with his hands and fixing things. He will best be remembered for helping others.

He is preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Emily Valigura, Tennie Hanys, and Vlasta Valigura; four brothers, Paul Valigura, Jr., Joe Valigura, Emil Valigura, and Willie Valigura. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Milady Valigura of Caldwell, a daughter and sonin-law, Joyce and Ron Sonnier of Orange; three grandchildren Todd, Jill and Erin Sonnier, all of Orange; two sisters, Marie Bettege of Bay City and Julie Jurik of Ennis; one brother and sister-in-law, Raymond and Jean Valigura of Caldwell and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 5, 1994 at Strickland Funeral Home. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 6, 1994 at the Caldwell Brethren Church with the Reverend Richard Stone officiating.

Interment followed in the Hranice Cemetery in Dime Box. Family members have asked that memorials be made to the Caldwell Brethren Church Organ Fund.

Mr. Henry Valigura, 77, of Caldwell, passed away Tuesday night, May 3, 1994 at Burleson Memorial Hospital in Caldwell. Mr. Valigura was born September 14, 1916 in the Gus Community of Burleson County, the son of the late Paul and Vinska Jurica Valigura. Mr. Valigura attended school in the Sunnyside Community which is near the Gus Community of Burleson. County.

He was married to Milady Marie Pecena on October 15, 1939 in the Frenstat Community. Together they owned and operated Valigura's Exxon Service Station in Caldwell for some 22 years until they retired in 1977. Mr. Valigura had previously worked for the Pepsi Cola Company and had also served in the United States Army during World

Youth Letters Section District One Camp Starts Next Tuesday, July 19 Dear Campers, District One will be camping soon and I am sure that all of you are looking forward to camp. Arrival time is between 10 and 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, July 19, with departure at 10 a.m. on Friday, July 22.

The older group of campers (10 +) will once again be participating in the challenge course. If you are 12 or older, you, will be receiving a form in the mail to complete for participation in this activity.

Dear Readers, District One will be holding their annual YAD on Sunday, July 17, 1994.

This event will be hosted by Lodge No. 13, Dime Box. Registration will begin at 10:30 a.m. and last until 11:30 a.m. A fried chicken lunch will be served, beginning at 11:15 a.m. Meal tickets will be $2.50 for a one-piece meal and $3.50 for a two-piece meal. Serving will continue until 12:15 p.m. The program will begin at 12:30 p.m. with a call to order. Reseda competition will begin shortly thereafter.

Dear Campers, With YAD now behind us, we look forward to more fun and a little sun and relaxation—District Two Camp at Val Verde. Our 1994 camp will kick off with Junior Camp on Saturday, July 23 at 10 a.m. and conclude on Tuesday, July 26 at 10 a.m. Our LITs learned many new games and activities at the workshop last month. They have a fantastic agenda planned. A special party is being planned for the last night of camp. Carnival night is being changed around this years. We assure you that you will enjoy the outcome. The older group of Juniors will be able to experience the teamwork of the low challenge course.

Teen camp will begin on Tuesday, July 26 at 10 a.m. and will conclude on Friday, July 29 at 10 a.m. Last year's evaluation rated the high ropes course as No. 1. Once again the course will be available for those of you wishing to take the challenge. Please be certain that you have signed, along with a parent, the permission slip prior to camp. This form must be signed to participate.

Other activities for both camps will be similar to those in the past, including swimming, horseback riding, archery, games, hikes, canoeing, dancing, volleyball, free time and a lot of fun.

Each camper is asked to bring a large rock (approximately 4" x 4" in size) for a craft project. It will not be returned and will stay at Camp Val Verde.

47, Seaton to Host Lock-In on Friday, July 15 Lodge

Dear. Members and Readers, On Friday, July 15th, the Seaton Youth Club will be having a lock-in. Family night will be starting at 6:30 p.m. and the lock-in will be held afterwards. Each youth is to bring a snack item, such as chips, cookies, or candies. The youth club will furnish pizzas for late night snackers. Also, any willing and brave person can bring a tent to sleep outdoors.

Each youth can bring one guest to this function.

On July 20, the Youth Club will have a swimming party at Walker Pool from 7 9 p.m. Everyone is asked once again to bring snacks for our hungry swimmers.

I'm a little late, but I wanted to con gratulate our May Fete Queen Melanie Koslovsky. Seaton held its third May Fete on May 7th. Melanie's escort was Mickey Bloodworth. Her parents are Patsy Koslovsky and Albert Koslovsky and her brother is David. She is a student at Temple High School where she is very active in many sports and other activities.

She has been a member of the Lodge 47 Youth Club since she was six years old.

Congratulations also goes out to another long time youth club member, Lori Greger, for graduating from Temple High this year. She was awarded an SPJST scholarship by Frankie Klinkovsky at an awards ceremony at Temple High School in May. Lori plans to attend Temple Junior College this fall.

Camp will be just around the corner. I look forward to being there again—this year as the "camp nurse." I do hope to not have as many "boo-boos" to take care of as last year. Hope to see all of you there.

Sometimes, the verb may be separated by several words from its reflexive pronoun: Kdy2 se - po dlouhe dobe - vratil In colloquial speech, we use the compound forms "ses" and "sis", which are the results of abbreviating jsi se

(ses) and jsi si (sis). Thus: Ty jsi se nemyl becomes: Ty ses nemyl. Co jsi si OAP becomes: Co sis pfal?

With some verbs se has no meaning at all, and are called "simple" reflexives: Ex.: Divati se na neco; smati se; PTATI SE, ETC. There are about 60 verbs of this type. Note 1: With numerals jeden, dva, when object is not mentioned, we can use either masculine (jeden, dva, dvacet jeden, dvacet dva, padesat jeden, sedesat dva) or feminine form (jedna, dye, dvacet jedna, dvacet dye, padesat jedna, gedesat dye). But when the numeral appears with its noun, the gender must agree. E.g.: jeden student, jedna studentka, dvacet jeden student, dvacet jedna studentka, tficet dva studenti, tficet dve studentky. But most frequent is genitive with all numerals higher than four (dvacet jedna studentd, dvacet dva studentek).

The more colloquial jedenadvacet, dvaadvacet, etc., take of course only genitive (jedenadvacet studentd) and only the last numeral takes -i (s dvaadvaceti studentkami).

Note 2: When the numeral accompanying a noun is used in other than nominative and accusative case, the following noun is put into that particular case. E.g.: Skolni rok trva deset mesicd (= G. pl.). Stalo se to pied

4) Sto (one hundred) declines like mesto. Nom. pl. is sta, but together with two sounds dve ste. Gen. p1. is set.

5) Tisic (one thousand) declines like stroj. Gen. pl. is mostly short: tisic.
