Members, public invited to ceremony

SPJST Flag Day observance to include essay contest The United States Flag celebrates its 217th birthday on June 14. For the more than 10 million members of 97 fraternal benefit societies of the National Fraternal Congress of America, it also marks the culmination of national Fraternal Week, June 8-14. Flag Day observances are a high point of National Fraternal Week. To promote the patriotic spirit of the SPJST, we 4 will sponsor a Flag Day Essay Contest. The contest is open to Essay members ages 14 through 18. Essays will range from a 150 to 300 words. The winning essay will receive a prize of $100, be read at the Home Office Flag Ceremony on June 14, 1994 and be published in the Vestnik. The winner from the previous year's contest must skip one

year in order to compete again. The essay must be postmarked no later than June 3 and received by the Home Office by June 6, 1994. Youth contestants must select a topic from one of the following: 1. "What is Our \ Responsibility to Our Flag?" 2. "What the American Flag Means to Me." A Flag Day Ceremony will be held at SPJST Home ay the Office in Temple on Contest June 14, 1994 at 9 a.m. The members and the public are invited to attend this ceremony. SPJST Directors, Officers Extend Tributes to Family of Brother Bernie Gebala

During a recent meeting of the Supreme Lodge, SPJST Directors presented a Resolution of Respect to Sister Evelyn Gebala in recognition of the achievements made to the Society by her late husband, Bernard M. "Bernie" Gebala. Pictured, from left, are: District One Director Andrew Vavra, District Two Director Willie Kohutek, District Four Director Stanley Broz, Sister Evelyn Gebala, District Three Director and Supreme Lodge Chairman Ski Pokladnik, District Six Director Matt Vanek, District Five Director Louis Hams and District Seven Director Bob Bayer.
