Secretary-Treasurer's position filled

SPJST Supreme Lodge appoints Lanita Anglin Secretary-Treasurer Meeting in Temple on Monday, May 9, the SPJST Supreme Lodge appointed Sister Lanita Anglin to fill the position of SPJST Secretary-Treasurer, a vacancy created following the appointment of Brother Leonard Mikeska to the position of SPJST Vice President.

Prior to her appointment, Sister Anglin served for 15 years as investment data specialist in the Secretary-Treasurer's office. Her responsibilities included researching the purchase of securities, monitoring securities purchased and reporting to the IRS on mortgage loans, policy surrenders and annuity payoffs.

Other duties included preparing reports for independent auditors and the Texas Department of Insurance.

Prior to working for SPJST, Sister Anglin served as secretary for the First Christian Church in Iowa Park, Texas and as a mortgage loan clerk for Louisiana National Bank in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. She also worked as a training secretary for the Abilene State School and as a caseworker for the Department of Human Services. She received bachelor of science degrees in Business Administration and English from East

Texas State University in 1966.

Sister Anglin, who is a member of Lodge 47, Seaton, and her husband, Charles, have two children, Carlita, who will be graduating this spring from North Texas State University and Brian, who will be graduating from Rogers High School.

As Secretary-Treasurer, Sister Anglin will be in responsible for SPJST invest-

ments management, mortgage lending and supervision and internal administrative services.

"It is an honor for the Supreme Lodge to have selected me to be SecretaryTreasurer," Anglin said, stating that she would concentrate her efforts on providing prompt and accurate customer service.

"I plan to approach the investments of the SPJST in a very conservative manner.

This will enable the SPJST to maintain its position as a leading fraternal benefit society. Whenever a member assigns „nc...; with the SEiS f, they want to be sure their money is safe."

Secretary-Treasurer Anglin noted that there will be a shifting of some responsibilities in the department. "I will work to ensure that our department stays a strong part of the SPJST team," she said.

She concluded by saying that she is looking forward to working with the membership and the officers and directors.

"This job is going to be a challenge and I am looking forward to it. I would like to encourage any member with questions or suggestions to please give me a call."

Lodge elected Sister Anglin from among several well-qualified applicants. "I am encouraged by the number and quality of talent of applicants seeking the position," he said. "Sister Anglin is an intelligent, capable individual with nearly 15 years of experience in the Home Office. Given the opportunity, I believe she will do an excellent job for the members of the SPJST."

"Whenever a member assigns ands with the SPJST, they want to be sure their mc ney is safes" Supreme Lodge Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas likewise pledged his support to assist the new Secretary-Treasurer.

"The duties of the Secretary-Treasurer's Department overlap with the Financial Secretary's Department in many areas and I have promised to help her in any way possible," Brother Mikulas said.

Jonathan plans to go to college where he will be focus on preengineering classes.

Jason's future plans include attending Sam Houston State University this fall.

Ira is a member of Lodge 174, Rockdale and a graduate of Rockdale High School. He is the son of Richard and Gloria Thrasher and the grandson of Gilbert and Bessie Kalich, members of Lodge 84, Dallas.

Ira's future plans include attending trade school this fall and helping with the family businesses.

April is a member of Lodge 185, Hill Country, New Braunfels and a graduate of Canyon High School. She is the daughter of Roy and Theresa Haag and the granddaughter of John W. and Anita Haag and Johnnie and Rosie Bohac.

Winds of Change are Blowing Addressing the Issues ...

Changes in the composition of the Supreme Lodge inevitably invite discussion about whether and how the body will change, and what direction it will take in the future. The move of Brother Leonard Mikeska from Secretary-Treasurer to Vice President and the addition of Sister Lanita Anglin as Secretary-Treasurer alters the chemistry of the Supreme Lodge and of the Home Office management team.

Which way the Supreme Lodge and Home Office management team goes at this point is quite naturally a matter of speculation. I discussed the matter with Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar last week.

"Managing a fraternal society is a business, much like any other business," Brother Leshikar observed. "Sometimes, in the decision making process, things don't always go your way "Last week, in response to the decision making process, two employees resigned. Both Drew Popelka and Magdalene White were highly competent members of our Home Office team and we wish them the best of luck in their future endeavors.," he said.

"In a democratic society, we have an obligation to abide by the decision of the majority. That same democratic process also provides for those with differing viewpoints to be heard. We must pay attention and listen more closely to what our people are saying ...

"Now is the time to reestablish our mission as a fraternal benefit society.

What is the purpose of the SPJST and who are our customers? Our customers are our members. Meeting their needs must be our first priority ... not our second and not our third priority-our first priority," he stressed.

According to President Leshikar, new ways must be found to improve and expand the benefits offered to our members, to create needed oversight procedures, and to make the fraternal process more meaningful and the central theme in all that we do.

"These are areas that need to be addressed. Certain issues have always caused problems. Some of these concerns, including the elimination of potential conflicts of interest, will very likely require convention actions," he acknowledged.

"We must be prepared at our 1996 convention to address the many issues which have been dogging at our Society for some time. To keep up with the times, some significant changes in the way we do business will be necessary. We owe it to our children and future generations to do those things that will ensure a strong and fraternal society in the years to come," President Leshikar said.

Thanks to Brother Leshikar for taking the time to offer some timely commentary on the recent developments affecting the business of our Society. I plan to elaborate-in the coming weeks and monthson some of the points which he raises in today's message. As such, I anticipate visiting with the other members of our SPJST management -team and presenting their perspectives on some of the important issues facing the Society. *** Let's Get It Straight Now

In last week's column, I mentioned SPJST's Mortgage Lending Department and the advantages of having your home or farm loan serviced serviced locally by people you know. In explaining application procedures, I incorrectly stated that in order to be considered for a mortgage loan, you or your spouse must have been a member of the SPJST for at least 90 days. That was the rule prior to last // November, however guidelines are now less stringent and the 90-day rule no longer applies. I guess you could say "Making an SPJST home or farm loan is now easier than ever."

Points of Interest

The SPJST Museum and Library is located at he SPJST Home Office Building in Temple. If you've never been, why not drop by this summer?

Visitors passing through town quite often will make the two-mile detour and spend and hour or two browsing through the many exhibits-all items donated by SPJST members and their families.

And, should your travels take you further south-in the vicinity of La Grange-you might want to consider stopping by the Fayette Heritage Museum. Barbara (Zabcik) and Bill Docekal, members of Lodge 130, Dallas, recently dropped me a line and asked to inform Vestnik readers of three "big" attractions on view at the museum this summer. Of the many items on display are three turn-of-the-century hand-painted stage curtains. One of the colorful backdrops was at one time used in the Fayetteville SPJST Hall; the other two came out of the old Hostyn Parish Dance Hall. The Fayette Heritage Museum is located at 855 South Jefferson in LaGrange. Attention Young People: SPJST Sponsoring Flag Day Essay Contest The United States Flag celebrates its 217th birthday on June 14. For the more than 10 million members of 97 fraternal benefit societies of the National Fraternal Congress of America, it also marks the culmination of national Fraternal Week, June 8-14.

Flag Day observances are a high point of National Fraternal Week.

To promote the patriotic spirit of the SPJST, we will sponsor a Flag Day Essay Contest. The contest is open to members ages 14 through 18. Essays will range from a 150 to 300 words.

The winning essay will receive a prize of $100, be read at the Home Office Flag Ceremony on June 14, 1994 and be published in the Vestnik. The winner from the previous year's contest must skip one year in order to compete again.

Kohutek-II Vice Chairman of the Board Robert Bayer-VII Chairman of the Board Pokladnik asked that the Board stand for a minute of silent meditation in respect to our deceased Vice President Bernard M. Gebala.

The following Resolution was proposed and adopted on motion by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Bayer and carried unanimously:

OLD BUSINESS TOURNAMENTS - President Leshikar reported on tournaments and he was asked to clarify handling of lodge tournaments. It was explained that lodge tournaments are sponsored by the local lodge or lodges.

STATE YOUTH DIRECTOR (SYD) - Consideration was given to the written report of SYD Joni Lange.

Clarification was asked for requirements of the State King and Queen to retain the crown for one year. It was explained that there are requirements such as attending functions that are announced well in advance.

It was explained that order of appearance at the Royalty and Beseda competition are determined by having the District Youth Counselors draw for position of their contestants.

In response to a question, it was reported that local lodge youth leaders elected at November or December lodge meetings would not take office until June 1st to coincide with the youth year.

District Youth Counselors elected at the Spring District meeting would not take office until September 1st of that same year. It was explained by President Leshikar the time between the election and September 1st would be used as a training period between the outgoing DYC and the newly elected DYC. On motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Kohutek, it was decided that when DYC's are selected at Spring District meetings, that they take office on September 1st to allow a training period. After discussion, vote was taken and the motion carried unanimously.

RESOLUTION OF RESPECT WHEREAS, the scepter of death has invaded the home of our Sister Evelyn Gebala and has called to life eternal, her husband and Vice President of Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas, (SPJST) Brother Bernard Michael Gebala; and, WHEREAS, Brother Bernard Michael Gebala left surviving him to mourn his departure, his wife Evelyn, his daughters Bernadette Hunter and Michele Langford, his grandchildren Forrest Craig Hunter, Jr. and Jordan Ashley Langford, his father Branny J. Gebala, and other relatives, a host of friends and neighbors, all whom, with all the members of the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST), desire to record their sorrow at the death on March 8, 1994 of Brother Bernard Michael Gebala, esteemed associate who worked harmoniously and diligently for the good of the Society for many years and was selected as Vice President of the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST) on October 1, 1978 and was elected as Vice President of the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST) in the XXIIIrd Convention in San Antonio in 1980 and served in that capacity until his death on March 8, 1994; and, WHEREAS, all members of the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST) bear willing testimony that Brother Bernard Michael Gebala contributed much to the growth and progress of the Society as Head of the Insurance Department and that he influenced and enriched the Fraternal Benefit System by his good works and high standards and that he was a good man who will be missed and remembered by his many friends mourning his passing, BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST) hereby gives its formal expression of sympathy and does hereby note in its records the passing from this life of a loyal member, who was esteemed by his associates, loved by his friends and respected by all, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be tendered to the family as a humble expression of heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement; one copy be sent to the Vestnik for publication; and one copy be spread on the minutes of the Supreme Lodge of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas (SPJST).

FOR THE SUPREME LODGE OF THE SLAVONIC BENEVOLENT ORDER OF THE STATE OF TEXAS (SPJST) Howard B. Leshikar, President Leonard D. Mikeska, Secretary-Treasurer MINUTES - The Board took up consideration of the minutes of the January 1214, 1994 Supreme Lodge meeting. The minutes were reviewed page by page. A typographical error was corrected on page 370, the second paragraph.

The minutes were accepted with the one typo correction on motion by Director Broz, seconded by Director Vavra and carried unanimously.

OFFICERS' REPORTS - Consideration was given to the reports of officers submitting written reports. The reports were acknowledged to be placed of record in Exhibit Volume 14. The motion was by Director Hanus, seconded by Director Vanek, and it carried unanimously.

It was suggested by Financial Secretary Mikulas that in the future, the youth rule book be published in loose leaf form so that changes could be effected by reprinting applicable pages only instead of reprinting the entire book when there are changes.

President Leshikar discussed clarification of the State Youth Achievement awards and reported that a special award be presented by the Home Office at YAD to youth club members 18 years of age or older who have been active youth club members for five years or more. The Youth Department through the presentation of this award, would be able to recognize young people for their dedication and hard work as an SPJST Youth Club member. Selection was proposed by the Youth Leader and DYC. It was so moved by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Bayer and carried unanimously.

Report was made that the new SPJST camp applications and liability release forms for volunteers were received and distributed and will be required.

The SYD's written report was accepted on motion by Director Bayer, seconded

by Financial Secretary Mikulas and carried unanimously.

FRATERNAL ACTIVITY COORDINATOR'S REPORT - The Board considered FAC Frank Klinkovsky's written report. The following items were reviewed: Fraternal Service, State Tournaments, 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive, 100 Percent Families, Deer Contest, State Tournaments, Fraternalist of the Year and Lodge incentive program. The FAC's written report was accepted on motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Broz and carried unanimously.

VESTNIK - President Leshikar reported that the cost of sending out Vestniks to all members on a quarterly basis would cost approximately $175 per 1,000.

President Leshikar stated he thought this was a very favorable cost. It was estimated that we would need to send out an additional 10,000 copies at a printing cost of near $1,750 plus cost of postage.

Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed the logistics of sending the Vestnik to family units not currently receiving the Vestnik. Director Vanek brought up the point that we would be sending the Vestnik to members who did not return their reply cards which had to be returned by Vestnik recipients to continue receiving the Vestnik. It was explained that about 2,000 of the 10,000 estimated family units, did in fact get a return card but about 8,000 did not.

Recess was taken from 10:25 a.m. until 10:40 a.m.

Financial Secretary Mikulas estimated that the printing cost of sending the Vestnik to 20,000 members to be $3,500 plus postage of approximately $3,000 or $.15 per item. The total estimate is $6,500 per mailing. There was extensive discussion concerning the options for communicating with all basic family units in the SPJST. It was decided that decision on the communication project be postponed to the next Board meeting at which time the Board requests a report of cost of the options for three issues and that the Editor present a working copy of an alternate communication vehicle for evaluation by the Board. The motion was by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Director Hanus and carried unanimously.

DEPARTMENTAL BUDGET - President Leshikar brought up the previously considered item dealing with departmental budgets. There was discussion about the definition of what is the Board's perception of a departmental budget. The

matter was postponed until Financial Secretary Mikulas has an opportunity to report on information already available in the annual statement concerning departmental expenditure.

IRS LETTER CONCERNING SCHOLARSHIPS - President Leshikar presented a letter from the IRS addressing a question on academic scholarships for grandchildren. The essential question was whether grandchildren of Supreme Lodge members qualify to apply for academic scholarships since the selection process is handled by an independent educational institution. There was extensive discussion about the matter. No action was taken. Recess for lunch was taken from 12:10 p.m. until 1:10 p.m DISTRICT TRAINING SESSIONS - President Leshikar brought up the training workshop set for each district and stated he would coordinate setting of dates with each district director. It was estimated the workshops would need to be planned for approximately three hours.

LOCAL LODGE OFFICERS WORKSHOP AND AWARDS BANQUET President Leshikar reviewed the scheduling of events at the workshop and awards program. He reported sixty-two lodges have indicated they will attend the awards dinner with some 380 scheduled to attend. In response to a question, President Leshikar stated he would review the program for the awards dinner.

There was a question about inviting the 1994 newly elected officers since the Board had previously decided to limit the complimentary invitations to the awards dinner to 1993 officers. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, Financial Secretary Mikulas and President Leshikar explained their reasoning for extending the invitation to include newly elected 1994 lodge officers. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska moved that the decision to treat 1994 officers the same as 1993 officers be ratified. Financial Secretary Mikulas seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.

The coordination of the plans for the awards banquet program were reported on

by President Leshikar. Discussion followed. State Field Manager Gene McBride was asked to come in and report on that portion of the program pertaining to sales representatives recognition and presentation of sales related awards. The Board thanked SFM McBride for coming in and excused him from the meeting.

LOANS NEEDING ATTENTION - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported on two delinquent loans needing special attention. Decision was deferred until tomorrow.

INCENTIVE PROGRAM FOR 1994 - Financial Secretary Mikulas reviewed the addition of a new category to the incentive program. He asked for interpretation on certificates other than monthly not completing a full year during 1993. It was agreed that credit on the program be given in 1994 for the number of months to complete 12 full months.

REPORT ON SELECTED LOAN IN PROCESS - Legal Advisor Kacir discussed one loan with a problem with a mechanics lien contract not sufficient to cover full cost of the project. He also discussed several other loans with complex problems that had to be resolved prior to closing.

Recess was taken from 3:15 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

DIRECTORS' OLD BUSINESS DIRECTOR VAVRA - Director Vavra discussed sales representatives seminars and other routine business.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK - He discussed a loan where we were asked to extend the commitment several times.

DIRECTOR BROZ - He discussed routine matters in his district.

DIRECTOR HANUS - He reported on several small lodges in his District and asked for input on what can be done in those lodges.

DIRECTOR VANEK - He discussed success in reorganizing lodges No. 58, Hungerford and No. 151, Wharton into an active lodge, Lodge No. 151 Wharton.

He asked that accrued unpaid refunds for Lodge No. 58 be paid to the reorganized, active lodge. The refunds of $1,762.04 were to be paid to the reorganized lodge. He discussed a Tarok tournament with 44 players held at Lodge No. 40, El Campo-Hillje. He also discussed sales classes in Hallettsville and Hillje.

DIRECTOR BAYER - He discussed his travels in District VII. DIRECTOR POKLADNIK - He reported on routine matters in his District.

NEW BUSINESS SENIOR OLYMPICS - President Leshikar presented a request for a donation to the Senior Olympics to be held in Temple, Texas. There was discussion about the options for sponsoring some part of the program.

Director Broz moved that the SPJST become an event sponsor for $1,000.

President Leshikar seconded, vote was taken and the motion failed.

REPLACEMENT OF VEHICLES - President Leshikar reported that the blue van and grey Lumina have high mileage and it might be prudent to replace the

two vehicles. It was also reported the Plymouth Reliant driven by Field Representative Jim Wiest needed to be taken out of heavy use due to high mileage and wear. It was decided to temporarily assign the Blue Lumina presently at the Home Office to Jim Wiest. It was decided to obtain bids and information on two full size automobiles and a van for consideration in the May Supreme Lodge meeting. The motion was by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously.

INTEREST SENSITIVE PRODUCTS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the current rate on Universal Life effective through March 31, 1994 is 6.75 percent. The guaranteed rate is 4.5 percent.

The assets allocated to Universal Life consist of bonds and mortgages on a 1 to 1 ratio. The average yield on allocated bonds is 6.906 percent while the yield on mortgages made over the last five years is 8.188 percent.

Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska also reported the current annuity accumulation period rate effective through March 31, 1994 is: Annuity I - 5.00% and Annuity II - 5.80%.

NEW HOME LOANS IN REMOTE AREAS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska briefly discussed appraised values of new home loans in remote areas with limited markets.

Recess for the day was taken at 5:40 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. on March 11, 1994.

MODIFICATION PROGRAM - The modification program has expired and renewal was considered.

Sidney Kacir moved that modification program on mortgage loans continue until May 9, 1994. Andy Vavra seconded. Motion passed.

100 ANNIVERSARY OF SPJST - Sidney Kacir moved that officers be authorized to spend up to $5,000.00 advertising/promotional in 1994-1995 for 100th Anniversary. To be reviewed in January 1996 for further consideration. Director Vavra seconded, motion unanimously passed. By common consent, the Editor is to run the 100th Anniversary ads in the Vestnik whenever possible.

INTEREST-SENSITIVE PRODUCTS - The Board again took up consideration of interest-sensitive products. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported back on a conversation with Actuary John Agee on the matter. He discussed the following concerning Annuity I: 1. The possibility of reducing the current $100,000 cap on the old Annuity I to $30,000 or $40,000.

2. The possibility of eliminating the 1 percent commission on additions to Annuity I. 3. The possibility of allowing Annuity I holders to roll to Annuity II and carrying forward the benefits of whatever penalty applies to Annuity I. 4. The possibility of earning a 1 percent bonus if they close out Annuity I and roll to Annuity II. The possible options were, discussed at length. It was agreed to fully research the above options and provide detailed information for consideration at the next Board meeting. On motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Bayer it was decided to put a cap on deposits (not including interest) to Annuity I to $30,000 per individual understanding that those certificate holders that currently exceed the amount will be grandfathered. Effective immediately. Carried unanimously. It was agreed that the interest rates on the interest sensitive products, Universal Life, Annuity I, Annuity II, and the rate for payout period calculations will remain unchanged for the period from April 1, 1994 through May 31, 1994.

The rates are to be reviewed with Actuary John Agee prior to the May Supreme Lodge meeting.

NEW EMPLOYEE - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska introduced new employee, Sheila Psencik, to the Board. He stated that she is replacing receptionist Charissa Beggs who is leaving to continue her degree studies.

6/VESTNIK—Wednesday, May 18, 1994 ANNUAL STATEMENT TO THE TEXAS COMMISSIONER OF INSURANCE - Financial Secretary Mikulas did a detailed report on selected portions of the Society's annual statement. He reviewed:

difficult it is to make changes.

1. Assets on a cash and accrued basis. On an accrued basis, all earned but not paid items such as accrued and earned interest is included. Accrued assets total $101,565,586.47.

He discussed activities in the district. The Placedo lodge and the El Campo-Hillje lodge were planning functions for new members.

2. The liabilities were explained with an emphasis on certificate reserves which were explained as essentially total reserves for all certificates which closely reflect the amount that would be paid out if all members cashed out their certificates. Financial Secretary Mikulas explained individual liability entries on the annual statement. Liabilities total $80,450,345.67.

3. The difference between assets and liabilities was explained to be surplus or unassigned funds which total $21,115,240.80.

Recess was taken from 10:20 a.m. until 10:35 a.m.

4. The Summary of Operations was reviewed comparing 1992 and 1993 including unassigned funds and special reserves.

5. The cash flow during the entire year was compared with the previous year. There was a detailed review of premiums.

6. The net investment income was seen broken down into different segments that make it up taking into account gains and losses.

He invited all to the District VI meeting and indicated the date would be set soon.

He discussed the annual statement and appreciated the time spent on discussing it.

He complimented Director Pokladnik on his part of the funeral service for Brother Bernie Gebala and stated he was really going to miss Bernie.

DIRECTOR BAYER - He discussed activities in his district and invited everyone to the District VII meeting DIRECTOR POKLADNIK - He briefly discussed his activities. He joined all of the other Supreme Lodge members in stating that we will all miss Bernie Gebala.

AUDITS OF LODGES - Financial Secretary Mikulas presented a letter addressed to the Supreme Lodge requesting an audit of their financial records. He asked the Board's position on what the Board wants him to do in instances such as this. A full audit that will produce a financial statement is a very time consuming function which could well take many days and cost in the vicinity of $2,000 if done by an outside firm.

Legal Advisor Kacir reviewed the pertinent By-Laws on the matter of audits.

7. The general expenses were reviewed broken out in three categories of Investment, Fraternal, and Insurance. He discussed in detail how all expenses are broken down into the three categories.

A question was asked as to how difficult it would be to further break out specific activities further categorizing each of the three and Financial Secretary Mikulas responded this can be done without any great difficulty.

It was suggested that Financial Secretary Mikulas review the records and if they are found to be disorderly and not in keeping with minimum standards, that he be authorized that the audit be referred to a local accounting firm. Where the lodges request an audit, they will deliver auditable records to the Financial Secretary's office.

Recess was taken from 3:10 p.m. until 3:20 p.m.

8. The valuation report was reviewed which included a comparison of net investment rate of return which was 7.45 percent.

9. Review of a summary of claims was looked at including breakout of different categories of claims.

10. The Exhibit of Insurance certificates reviewed indicated a breakout of changes in number of certificates. The number of certificates outstanding at year end was 49,222. The total of annuity certificates is 2,354.

11. Numerous schedules were briefly reviewed breaking out mortgage loans, foreclosures, real estate owned and sold and various schedules and categorizing of investments.

President Leshikar complimented Financial Secretary Mikulas on his thorough review of the annual statement as well as the fine job on completing the annual statement for the Society.

Financial Secretary Mikulas was authorized to attend a special seminar in regards to preparation of the annual statement.

Recess for lunch was taken at 12:10 p.m. until 1:30 p.m.

TRIPS AND TOURS - There was a discussion about travel agency sponsored trips directed to SPJST members. Legal Advisor Kacir fully reviewed potential liability exposure and the position we should take if a travel agency desires to target our members. It was agreed that the president should evaluate and report on the cost and value of allowing such trips. The motion was by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously.

DELINQUENT LOANS - Legal Advisor Kacir reported on a conversation with a delinquent borrower.

DIRECTORS' NEW BUSINESS DIRECTOR VAVRA - He discussed the changes in his area where governmental authorities are requiring inspections on septic systems on all property sales.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK - He stated he thought that we had a very good meeting and lots of good open discussion. He invited all to attend the District II meeting Sunday the 13th.

DIRECTOR BROZ - He invited all to attend the District IV meeting on April 17th. He stated that he feels strongly that the SPJST should come up with a good statewide project. He suggested we think about a name change at the next Convention. He asked that sufficient time be allowed on mortgage rate changes.

VACANCY IN POSITION OF VICE PRESIDENT - The Board took up the matter of filling the vacancy and discussion followed.

Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska asked for interpretation of the proceedings if the reduced step up salary of 80 percent would apply to an existing officer asking for transfer into that position. There was discussion and review of the relevant Convention action on salaries. Legal Advisor Kacir reviewed the interpretation and indicated he did not feel the reduced salary provision would apply to an existing officer transferring to another position and he would verify that provision with the Chairman of the Finance Committee. Legal Advisor Kacir attempted to reach the Chairman of the Finance Committee for confirmation by phone but could not reach him.

There was discussion about the procedure of filling the vacancy of the Vice President position. There was discussion about resumes and limited financial data such as information about assets and liabilities. Secretary-Treasurer stated he was applying for the position for Vice President if it could be interpreted that the transfer would not be subject to a salary reduction since he would not be newly elected. Deliberation followed.

Director Bayer moved, Director Vanek seconded that Leonard Mikeska be approved Vice President of SPJST subject to confirmation that the transfer is interpreted not to be subject to a salary reduction applying to newly elected Supreme Lodge officers. Director Vanek seconded, and the motion carried with ten in favor and Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska abstaining.

Legal Advisor Kacir and the Board members indicated approval that the selection will be considered a transfer not subject to any reduction in salary to Leonard Mikeska in the position of Vice President. In response to a question about the interim period,Vice President Mikeska stated he would assist with the work in the Secretary-Treasurer's Department until the position is filled in April. Financial Secretary Mikulas also pledged his assistance in the Secretary-Treasurer's Department during the interim selection period.

The Board took up filling of the vacancy in the position of Secretary-Treasurer.

After deliberation, it was decided that applications with resumes and brief financial data be taken through April 8th for the vacancy in position of SecretaryTreasurer and a special meeting be called for the purpose of selecting a SecretaryTreasurer on April 15th at 11 a.m. Applicants will be invited to interview by the Board. The procedure was approved by common consent.

The next regular meeting will begin at 8:30 a.m. on May 9th and 10th.

Chairman of the Board Pokladnik adjourned the meeting at 4:35 p.m.

Letters from the Lodges Lodge 9, Snook Invites Readers to "Snook Fest" Dear Readers, Make plans to be in Snook, Texas on Saturday, June 4, 1994 for fun, food and good (woompa-pa) music. We'll be celebrating Snook Fest and would like for you to enjoy these good times with us.

Proceeds will benefit the City Park Improvement Program.

The day's activities get started at 10 a.m. with a downtown parade, followed by a day-long schedule of events taking place at the City Park.

Some of the featured entertainment in in the park will include a barbecue cookoff, food booths, arts and crafts shows, a children's barnyard, horseshoes and washer tournament, the "Mad Hatter" magician and various contests.

At 1 p.m., there will be a cake auction and music all afternoon by the Leroy Matocha Polka Band.

The SPJST hall will also play host to two bands and the "Little Miss and Mister Contest." On Frida y night, June 3rd, from 7:30 p.m. until midnight, music will be provided by the Bobby Jones Czech Band. The Little Miss and Mister Contest will be held from 7:30 until 8 p.m. The Saturday, June 4, 1994 dance will also be from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Musical entertainment from 8 p.m. until midnight will feature the music of Joe Orsak and the Colt 45 Band.

Lodge 35, Elk Reports on May Meeting

Lodge 88, Houston Czech Class Completes Course 26

Dear Readers, President Henry Breitkreutz called our meeting to order on May 1st.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Christopher Pavelka.

The membership then stood in a moment of silence for our departed Brother Robert Kubitza. May he rest in peace.

The minutes were read bY Virlene Kelley and were approved.

In the absence of Nancy Milner, Gene Kelley gave her treasurer's report, which was approved.

Sister Nancy had gone to he with her daughter, Cheryl, at the birth of a daughter. The proud parents are Cheryl and Percy Rovelo of Dallas. Grandparents are Earl and Nancy Milner of Elk and great-grandparents are Hubby and Florence, also of Elk. The new baby also has an older sister, Amanda, who is also a member of Lodge 35.

Youth Leader Barbara Pavelka reported that they had six members, three adults and one social member present at their youth meeting.

Those having a birthday in May are Gene Edward Pavelka and Waylon Callaway. Happy Birthday was sung and pizza with candles was used in lieu of a cake. The guys like that even better.

There was no new or old business.

The adult door prize was won by Inez Breitkreutz and the youth prize by Holly Dennis.

The meeting was adjourned and a delicious pizza and salad supper was enjoyed by all present.

The boundless energies of the Czech class students of Lodge 88, Houston seem to be unending. The spirit of the students is evident in each session, the eagerness to learn about the country of heir ancestors and the anticipation of planned trips seem to fuel the comradships.

During the last class, 53 brought the "filry" of snacks, and all the map viewing and all of the map viewing and heritage discussions were enhanced by recorded Czech music.

Fourteen students have already made arrangements to visit the Czech Republic this summer. One couple is staying about two months; others are returning for their second or third time. Needless to say, they are already talking about the 27th course beginning this September.

88, Houston Reports on May Meeting

Dear Members, In the absence of our secretary, President Jerome Ermis appointed me Helmcamp) as secretary for the meeting. I shall give you the highlights of the meeting.

President Ermis called the meeting to order. Flag Bearers Lindsey Michalak and Darlene and Marlene Migl presented the colors and led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance. The members stood in silent respect in memory of the members who died in April: David Cieslewicz, David Hill, Sidonia Prewitt, Frank Dolezal, Richard Mulligan, Jr., Vivian Gauntt, and Stephen Kitchen.

Treasurer Larry Pflughaupt gave a good report on the income and expenses showing profit.

Fraternal Activities Coordinator Homer Alexander gave his usual good report and named the donors of glasses and clothing. He advised us that we can now register for an AARP Drivers Education Course to be held June 23 and 24. He stated that the Supreme Lodge invites us to attend their Flag Day Celebration on June 14th.

Youth Leader Barbara Linney gave an interesting report, stating that she and the youth made a 10-mile walk for the March of Dimes and did well in collecting funds.

She thanked Edna Wehring, Marie Stayton and Vernon Hegwood for their help. Barbara invited us all to the District Youth Achievement Day on July 10th.

President Ermis reported that the Executive Committee made plans for Homecoming-Splash Day. There will be a Barbecue dinner with all the trimmings, a concert by our Choral Club from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., bingo from 2 until 4 p.m. and a free dance with the City Polka Boys.

Entertainment Chairman Viola Cox gave her usual good report. She named the fine hands that we will have: Manny Green on May 14; Bobby Jones on May 2U Jack Melick on May 28; John Sullivan on June 4; the City Polka Boys on June 5; the Cosmopolitan Cowboys on June 10 and Bobby Lane on June 11.

Secretary of the Board Dorothy Ptlughaupt asked for anyone willing to help on Homecoming-Splash Day to sign the list for helpers or to give her a call.

She will appreciate getting your help.

Birthday Club President Lowrina Lindemann invited all to their luncheons on the first and second Wednesdays each month. She asked the ladies to bring cakes and pastry for our Homecoming Day. Lillie Spies is Pastry Booth Chairman.

Nat Gonzales, a member of our Board, whose mother died recently, thanked the members for the beautiful flowers and cards and those who came by the funeral home. Nat, I know the members join me in extending sympathy.

Swimming Pool Chairman Karl Lindemann presented Kenneth Stebing, who is the manager of the swimming pool. He reported that there are special prices this year. For the first time there will be hot water for the showers.

Board Chairman A.J. Stayton reported on getting the bingo hoard and liquor license. He stated that anyone wanting to rent the ballroom should go to the office

His future plans include going to college where he will pursue a career as a welder.

Peggy is a member of Lodge 87, Temple and a graduate of Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. She is the daughter of Cecil and Anna Machalek and Wilma Machalek and Frank Machalek (deceased).

Peggy, who received a bachelor's degree in business administration plans to pursue a career in Computer Information Systems and Adminstrative Sciences.

Board member Clara Broz announced the Workers Party and asked all chairmen to give her names of their helpers.

Dramatic President Naomi Spencer reported on the "Show of the Year" and that they will present "Womanless Wedding" on September 26th. Tim Kostom will direct the show and wants the names of all interested participants.

Choral Director Tim Kostom announced that rehearsals are starting in order to prepare for the Rosenberg Fest, Homecoming Day and for other events.

Benevolence Reporter Mary Kosut reported for March and April. She always does a thorough job.

Men's Club President Thomas Marsh reported for the club and mentioned that Laura Warnasch made all of the biscuits for their breakfast! The members gave Laura a big applause.

Professor William Souchek reported on the splendid attendance in his Czech classes of which he is very proud. He recited a hilarious poem about "getting old" that was enjoyed by all.

District Youth Leader Marie Stayton stated that State King John Buri and District Queen Kristi Sokol are doing a great job representing SPJST. She announced an important meeting on May 16 at 7 p.m. for all LITs and parents. The LIT Retreat will be June 3 and 5 at Camp Lone Star in La Grange. She stated that anyone who wants to go to camp must participate in Youth Achievement Day. Scholarship Fund Committee Chairman Josephine Pflughaupt presented the scholarship winners: Lisa Caffey, Laura Charbonneau, Carolyn Dunlavy (who couldn't attend), Gregory Goedeke, Melissa Havemann, Vickie Koteras, and James Lyons. President Ermis complimented her on her good job and asked the members to give her a good hand.

Helen Hegwood reported on insurance and named the winners in our lodge: Edna Wehring, Victor Janak, and Vincent Hegwood.

Congratulations go to these anniversary celebrants: Georgia and Gene Barcak, Clara and Johnny Broz, and Christine and Vernon Hegwood.

In conclusion, I want to thank you, dear editor, for the beautiful write-up you gave our beloved Vice President Bernie Gebala. I also want to congratulate our

92, Fort Worth Reports on Lodge Activities

Dear Members and Friends, The rains have come and stayed around for a time now. If it doesn't stop , we may all be web-footed soon. Like always, we are never satisfied with the weather. I only hope that all farmers get some rain. The lawn mowers are busy as soon as the sun comes out. It seems in our area that everything is really green. I will have to wish all mothers a belated Happy Mother's Day as this is written past their day.

I hope that all of you have noticed the date change from June 5 to June 19 for our incentive get-together in recognition of our sales representatives. We hope that several of the new members will come out for this occasion. There will be a dinner starting at 12 p.m. and ending at 2 p.m. There will be a $5 charge for the meal and a lower price for children's plates.

After dinner, there will be a program from 2:10 p.m. to 3 pm. during which time awards will be presented to the sales representatives. The sales representatives and fraternalists will have a special table in front of the stage.

At 3 p.m., Fritz Hodde and,the Fabulous Six band will start playing.

This will be a free dance and no tables will be reserved. So, come early for the meal and the nice program.

During the evening there will be a prize drawing. The prizes will be nice so be sure to try to win.

The District Three meeting was very nice and our editor was present as was the district director and the rest home director. Later, there was the horseshoe contest for the adults and washers for the youth. It was a nice surprise for Carl Zich and Albert Kubala to win a tie for second place. Following the play-off, they took third place. This was the first time that we have entered the horseshoe

contest. We are planning to sharpen up our skills and really give the others a hard time.

I would like to let you know, that the fire department will not let us use paper on the tables or paper decorations like we used to use. Everything has to be fireproof if it is cloth, including carpet and stage drapes. We have to comply with the fire department as it will be for our own protection.

The game nights are doing fine and we always have several tables of taroks or dominoes and other games. We are glad that Brother Frank Tesar, Sr. is now home and escaped having to have a pacemaker.

We have missed him and Marie on game nights and meetings. We hope that the others who may be home from the hospital are doing fine. Joy Paprskar still is not doing too well but she is better at times.

Sister Vlasta Dolkos is still in the rest home. Joyce Tesar is still receiving treatments. Sylvia Dolkos has been put in the rest home where Mrs. Vlasta is.

Our next dance will be May 22 with music by Henry Rejcek from Ennis from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Lodge 142, Houston Reports on May Meeting Dear Readers, Our lodge meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 1, 1994 by President Keith Kieschnick.

We had 33 members and three visitors present who stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

The minutes were read by Secretary Alice Jochen. The roll call of officers and Board of Trustees revealed the absence of Vice President Barbara Boyd, Fraternal Activities Coordinator Marilyn Spivey and Board Chairman Robert Kieschnick.

Correspondence was read by President Keith Kieschnick. Re: Delegates selected to go to future convention.

Scholarship winners for 1994 were announced. Winner from Lodge 142 were Amanda Jochen of Navasota, Texas and Keith Kieschnick from Houston. Ms. Jochen will pursue her studies at Texas A&M University this fall where she will major in science and chemistry, vying to be a biochemist. Amanda Jochen is the granddaughter of Nelson and Alice Jochen. Keith Kieschnick is the son of Robert and Mary Ann Kieschnick.

The financial secretary-treasurer's report was read by Sister Rosie Tumis.

The Board of Trustees and bar report was read by Henry Hermis, Sr. The Youth Club report was given by Elizabeth Herrnis, our youth leader.

The youth wish to give thanks to Henry and Rita Hermis, Sr., Frank and Dorothy Tumis, Ms. Jo Buri, and all of the youth members for their generous donations. The youth will be sponsoring a garage sale in the future. Please put your items aside and we will give you a call later as to where and when we will be having the garage sale.

The Sick Committee reported that our Mrs. Lillian Schmidt was in the hospital, but we were so pleased to see her at this meeting. Here's hoping that she will continue to improve at a steady rate.

Visitors recognized were Jo Ann Buri, Jo Buri and Joe Gambil. Thanks to the visitors for coming to our meeting. We are so proud to have you.

154, Fort Worth Reports on Mother's Day Celebration

Dear Members and Friends, We hope that all of you mothers had a wonderful day yesterday.

We had a good turn out for our Mother's Day celebration.

Everyone enjoyed the dinner. Had plenty of food and fellowship.

We enjoyed having Sister Maria Prill, her daughter, Sister Eva and Virgil Dockery, who came in Saturday night from Surprise, Arizona. Think Sister Prill's visit there for two months did her a lot of good. She gained weight and looked great. We also enjoyed having Brother Frank and Sister Merel Kovar and our new member, Kjeil Roseland.

Sorry to hear that Denise got whatever is

going around. A dinner was sent to her and it was wonderful to have Brother Joe Milan join us. Keep up the good work on your recovery.

The lodge would also like to extend its sincere sympathy to Brother Emil Mamula and his family on the loss of his sister. May she rest in peace.

The Youth. Club made crafts for their mothers. Chris Peaton and all of the youth wished all of the mothers a "Happy Mother's Day" and presented the oldest mother, Jewell Clark—who will be 92 on June 1—with a gift. The youngest mother in attendance was Sister Lori Pace and the mother with the most children was Sister Rose Steinman.

We extend our congratulations to Brothers Jason and Jeremy Jirik who received SPJST scholarships. Keep up the good work.

Sister Donna Parker was like a celebrity in Washington, D.C. She represented the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce at President Clinton's signing of the 1994 Commission of Excellence and Education School to Opportunities Act Award. It was held on the front lawn of the White House where she was seated next to John F. Kennedy, Jr., all of the top Cabinet members and Hillary Clinton.

She really enjoyed the day.

A lot of our members will be joining the Southern District Sokol Stet to be held in Dallas on June 3, 4 and 5.

186, Caldwell Reports on May Meeting

Caldwell SPJST Lodge 186 will host the District One Workshop on May 17.

A conversational Czech class which is scheduled to start in June was discussed.

The Lodge 187, Round Rock May Fete is this Sunday, May 22 at 4 p.m.

Lodge 187, Round Rock Hosts Semi-Annual Tip Party Round Rock Lodge 187 held its semiannual Tip Party on April 17 for all active members and volunteers who have contributed countless hours of working at the SPJST. It was an afternoon of fun, good food and fellowship.

Many activities included a cake walk, silent auction, playing cards and dominoes and pitching horseshoes.

During the membership meeting, Allyson Holman, daughter of Bill and Sharon Holman of Hutto was elected the 1994 May Fete Queen. Amy Rohlack, daughter of Larry and Deborah Rohlack of Round Rock was elected princess.

The May Fete will be held on May 22 at 4 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend!

Logan Bartz presented Lucille Klaus of Hutto with a 50-year membership pin.

She was honored with a cake made by Norma Betak and a banner congratulating her for her longstanding membership with the SPJST.

Lodge 187, Round Rock Proudly Raises "Old Glory" Lodge 187, Round Rock is proud of the new flag pole and expresses its appreciation to member "Red" Oman for his efforts in getting the pole installed.

Melinda received her bachelor's degree in accounting. Her future plans include working as an accountant for KPMG Peat Marwick.

Deandra is a member of Lodge 187, Round Rock and a graduate of Texas A&M University in College Station.

Christi Circle of Women Reports on May Meeting Corpus

Everyone in attendance enjoyed the delicious meal.

50-year member of Lodge 187, Lucille Klaus shows off the cake made especially for the occasion.

The 28 members attending the May 5 meeting of the Corpus Christi Circle of Women had a special treat. One of our guests, Dr. Astrid Skopal from Prerov, Czech Republic, sang the Czech version of "The Yellow Rose of Texas" and "Clementine," plus two delightful Moravian songs, Her clear, lovely voice added to our enjoyment.

Those of us who understand Czech also enjoyed hearing Jaroslav Skopal speak of his visit and travels around this part of Texas. Hearing Czech spoken by a native of that country is a delight in itself. He will be participating in the upcoming Sokol Slet in Prague and invited us all to attend. I asked Jerry Elzner about renting a plane to fly us over, but I'm afraid it's a little too far for one of our day trips.

Jaroslav and Astrid Skopal were house guests of Milly and Jerry Elzner for a week. Jaroslav is the President of Sokol Prerov, the Sister Sokol of Sokol Corpus Christi.

On April 29, Lodge 79 joined Sokol in hosting a "velirek" in honor of the Skopals. Several Krouzek members attended, including Agnes Burge of Kerrville, who was visiting family. It was good to see her. The Sokol children's gym class performed their "prostna" and also some floor exercises. With the coaching of Izzy Araiza, Mike Sherridan, and Mark Garcia, they have made remarkable progress.

We had one other guest, Jim Havranek, and our Honorary Member, Jerry Elzner, was also present. He introduced the Skopals to our group.

Betty Junca reported that she delivered flowers to Sophie Snapka who was in Spohn Hospital after suffering a stroke.

Betty said they talked for two hours about the olden days in Penelope. Sophie is undergoing therapy treatment at Spohn Hospice. We all signed a get well card for her and hope to see her at our next meeting.

Our wild flower viewing trip took place on April 14. We traveled 300 miles, saw huge fields of bluebonnets and vast amounts of golden flowers everywhere. We stopped for lunch at Hallettsville and you just can't beat those small town home-cooked meals. The new Victoria shopping mall was on our way home so we stopped for an hour of shopping. The trip was fun as always, thanks to Jerry Elzner's planning and safe driving.

Thank you card was received from Sokol Corpus Christi for our last donation and Pauline Novosad expressed Albina Bartosh's gratitude for the birthday card we had all signed last month.

Carrie Veselka donated two hanging baskets of airplane plants won by Della Elzner and Anne Spencer. Lil Hruska brought another beautiful blooming begonia won by Milly Elzner and also three other potted plant won by Rose Huff and Becky Elzner. Marcellina Mokry won a photo album brought by Carrie and Anne Spencer won a jar of pickles put up by Marcellina. Betty Jurica brought fresh beets out of her garden won by Frances Kosarek. Our guest, Astrid Skopal, won a lovely basket of bath soaps and oils sent from California by Lottie Ramey. Thank you, Lottie, for the thoughtful door prize.

I'm happy our guest won it. She'll have something to remember us by for a long time.

Our luncheon was very good. Thanks go to Lillian Covill and her hostesses.

Our next meeting will be June 2 at Sokol Hall. Come early so we can start promptly at 10:30 a.m.

Worth Ladies Circle Reports on May Meeting

The meeting of the Ladies Circle opened with the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Members remained standing to read a beautiful prayer to all mothers living and deceased. My own mother has been gone thirty years but she is never too far from my thoughts. The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was filed as read.

A thank you note was read from Frank Tesar's family for calls and prayers during his recent stay in the hospital. He is doing fine and was able to attend the domino-playing group. Mildred Hovend's brother, Arnold Anz, passed away this week and Elma Anderson reported that her daughter's condition is terminal. Our thoughts are with you at this time.

Hostesses for June are: Nancy Paprskar, Estelle Hurtik, Victoria Murphy and Rose Nieswiadomy.

Residents Update Oliver Ellerbe is the newest resident to join S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 2 in Needville. Mr. Ellerbe arrived in April.

Teman Patterson was discharged to go home.

We regret the death of Lela Padgett.

She will be missed by our staff and by our residents.

April Activity Review Every Monday morning, Olie Eixman, Willie Mae Tielke, Ruby Lee Oberhoff, and Alice Bergen came to have sing-along.

Every Tuesday morning, Frank Ramos came to have Bible Study. In the afternoon, Annie Stavinoha, Ida Gasch, Toni Kramer, Erna Gorka, Marge Rowley and Cecilia Lopez came to help with bingo.

Every Thursday morning, Father Ramsey, Milton Legendre, Annie Stavinoha and Rosie Kovar with the St. Michael's Catholic Church came to have Mass. In the afternoon, the Damon, Catholic, Immanuel, Methodist, and Presbyterian ladies took turns coming to have crafts.

On Wednesday noon, April 27, approximately 15 residents enjoyed grilled hamburgers with all of the trimmings, baked beans, potato salad and ice cream outside on the patio.

On Wednesday evening, April 27, Larry Ognoski, George Lolley and Fritz Koehne provided music and singing.

On Friday afternoon, April 29, the birthday party was held which included singing happy birthday and listening to music on the piano and accordion by Louis Vacek. A Flower and Gift Shop provided the corsages and boutineers.

The Methodist ladies provided the cakes.

The Sodolak family also brought a cake and some cookies. Volunteers Melva Hastings, Ida Gasch, and Mildred Novak helped serve cake, ice cream, punch and coffee to all.

Happy Birthday greetings for the month of April are extended to these residents: Jean Harris, Emil Sodolak, and Julia Murrile; and these staff members: Donna Holik, Dorothy Lipinski, Cora Jones, Sharon Starrick, Georgia Armstead and Jerry Fabrygel.The residents enjoyed all of the activities during the month of April.

Reunions Seaton School Reunion May 29 The Seaton School Reunion will be held on Sunday, May 29, 1994 at the lunch room, beginning at 10:30 a.m. The noon meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. with the food brought for your family members. Plates, cups, bread, tea and coffee will be provided.

Youth Letters Lodge 9, Snook Youth Club Reports on May Meeting Dear Readers, The Snook Youth Club had their monthly meeting on May 4th. We talked about having a float and a water booth at the Snook Fest on June 4th.

Susan Skrabanek then talked to us about Youth Achievement Day, camp, and the Schlitterbaun trip. She also brought the craft. We made a sunflower hat. It was pretty. Thanks, Mrs. Skrabanek.

Our next meeting will be on June 1st at the Fire Station at 6:30 p.m. We will be working on our float.

Lodge 40 El Campo - Hillje Reports on May Meeting The May 5, 194 meeting of the Lodge No. 40 Youth Club was called to order by Martha Bartos. Lisa Reck led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were five members present. Two guests in attendance were Marcy Dorotik and Chase Zalman.

The secretaries report was read and approved as read. The treasurer then collected dues.

Old business included a discussion of how the district meeting came along. We also gave certificates to those who participated in the tee-shirt contest.

Under new business, our lodge thanks Marcy Dorotik for coming out and telling us the new rules for the rule book.

We then held the election of officers for the coming year. They are as follows:
