Production exceeding previous year's mark by $5 million

SPJST Congratulates October Top Producers The SPJST sales force production is more than $5 million dollars ahead of last year.

All districts are doing extremely well and if this production continues, 1993 will he a great year for SPJST. The sales efforts seem to he enhanced by the Lodge Recognition and Incentive Program. The lodges that are involved in this program seem to be showing the greatest gain.

When the Going Gets Tough, Laugh When times get tough, it helps to remember you have a right to play as well as work . . . My grandmother had it right 40 years ago when she told me, "If you don't have a sense of humor, you probably don't have any sense at all."

Humor is that magic elixir that enables us to see the lighter side of serious situations; moreover, it can provide a kind of emotional support that gives us the confidence that things will be all right and that life's problems can be managed.

Problems that have a tendency to overwhelm us can sometimes be reduced to their right proportions just by injecting a little humor into the mixture. A small dose of humor can go a long way towards breaking communication barriers and getting rid of suspicions about people and situations.

If you're caught up in a stressful situation where you work or in your lodge, it may sometimes be difficult to see the humor in the situation. That's when you have to make a conscious effort to laugh off the stress.

Let me give you an example. Just before Halloween at the Home Office, several employees and at least one of the officers, got a "little out of character" and dressed up in honor of the occasion. (See page three.) It provided a break from the daily routine and made most everybody laugh. It's the kind of shared experience that leads to friendly interaction and a more pleasant working environment.

What's more, having fun makes sense.

The link between humor and good health has been widely documented.

Researchers from Loma Linda University and Stanford University report that the medical benefits of laughter are similar to mild exercise. According to their study, laughing increased levels of oxygen in the blood, while at the same time, marked decreases in stress-related hormones were recorded. Another medical study shows that laughing actually elevates the body's level of T-cells, which are central to the body's immune system.

In his book The Light Touch, author Malcolm Kushner sees the link between humor and health as a powerful business tool. He promotes fun and laughter as a way to motivate people, enhance productivity and encourage creativity. Humor and fun, he says, help to relieve stress and anxiety with far less damage than alcohol and drugs.

Based on that expert advice, laughter is indeed good medicine. It can keep our routines from turning into ruts and our reactions from turning into overactions.

When we are able to keep our perspective on a situation, we are less likely to overact or misjudge. Part of keeping perspective is having the ability to lighten up and laugh at ourselves and laugh with each other.

District Seven Meets in Victoria

I had the chance last week to attend the District Six Fall Meeting and Fun Day in Victoria. The meeting completes this year's series of SPJST fall district meetings. At that, I'll make a couple of observations: The District Six Fall Meeting and Fun Day was held at a place called "Wayne's Werld"-and yes, that's the correct spelling. Wayne's Werld is a cavernous, metal building that previously served as some sort of mobile home sales or manufacturing center. The present owner converted the building into a public recreation and entertainment center. It just goes to show you what a little imagination can do. At any rate, it was something different and I'd like to commend the District Six officers and members of Lodge 32, Victoria, for "going out on a limb" and trying something new.

A portion of the program was dedicated to performances by the youth of District Six. It's a good practice in that it integrates the youth into district meeting process and lets them know that they are an important part of the SPJST and its future. Hats off to District Youth Counselor Marcy Dorotik. A former SPJST queen, herself, Marcy's still fairly new in her position; however, she's doing a good job in directing the young people and with promoting the SPJST youth groups throughout District Six. Keep up the good work. ***

Lodges Hosting Holiday Parties

The holiday season will soon be upon us. I know that because quite a few lodges have started posting the dates of their annual Christmas parties. For some lodges, it will be their biggest memberoriented event of the year. If you're a lodge officer and that sounds familiar, why not take advantage of this opportunity and provide attendees with a schedule of your 1994 meeting dates and planned projects? Another idea: Have sign up sheets for various lodge committees available at the registration desk. I won't guarantee that either of these ideas boost your 1994 attendance; however, one may of them may get some of your inactives involved on a more regular basis. *** September Minutes in This Issue

Beginning on page four of this issue are the minutes of the September 8-9 Supreme Lodge Meeting. Appearing on page seven is a recommendation made by President Leshikar advocating the establishment of a "budget for each department so we can do cost breakouts and begin to establish a system to help us cut costs, streamline operations and run the Home Office business for the best efficiency." Sounds like a winner of an idea; however, no action was taken. We'll address the matter of budgeting in greater detail at a late date in this column.

The Minutes of the Septembe 8-9, 1993 Regular Meeting of the Supreme Lodge SPJST held at the Home Office in Temple,Texas The meeting was called to order by Chairman of the Board Cyril] (Sid) Pokladnik at 8:00 p.m. with the following Supreme Lodge Members present: Cyril] Pokladnik-III, Howard B. Leshikar, Pres: Chairman of the Board Bernard M. Gebala, Vice Pres.

OLD BUSINESS/RECURRING AND UNFINISHED BUSINESS MERGERS, DISBANDS AND REORGANIZATIONS - President Leshikar

reported on merger of Lodge 147 and 168.

Mergers, Disbands and Reorganizations are as follows: District 7 - The merger of Lodges 147 and 168 into new Lodge No. 202 took place on August 8, 1993.

At this time there is not any active SPJST sales representatives in this area. President Leshikar expressed opinion that the members there are very receptive to SPJST influence. This area could have a lot of potential for growth considering the average income and the proximity of this area to San Antonio.

District I - Report was made that Lodge No. 122, will meet on September 21 to vote to disband. District Director Vavra and President Leshikar will be there to meet with lodge members.

The September meeting was changed to begin at 8:00 p.m. September 8, 1993 due to programs and other events and the change was approved by all Supreme Lodge members. The change was ratified on motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Director Vavra and carried unanimously.

MINUTES - The minutes of the July 12-14, 1993 regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge were considered from page 325 through page 341. There was a request for a correction of the third paragraph on page 335 and the correction was made after discussion.

An addition was made on the first paragraph of page 337 changing the maker of the A.M. Best motion to President Leshikar.

President Leshikar reported that Lodge No. 141, Sealy has been contacted, but to date there has been no response.

District 6 - Director Vanek and President Leshikar reported on a meeting with Lodge No. 58, Hungerford and Lodge No. 151, Wharton. Another meeting will be set up in the near future to see how the members want to handle their future lodge business. We are probably looking at a merger for this lodge.

President Leshikar reported that Lodge No. 41, Port Lavaca has been contacted, and no response at this time. President Leshikar stated that his goal is by the end of the year to contact, in some way, all of the inactive lodges.

The minutes were accepted with the 2 corrections on motion by Director Hanus, seconded by Director Vanek and carried unanimously.

President Leshikar shared information about the following lodges that are not newly established, all having less than 25 members: No. 8 - Weimer, No. 19 - Velehrad, No. 57 - Gonzales, No. 85 - Weinert, No. 90 - Stamford, No. 149 - Alvin, and No. 171 Lockhart.

OFFICERS' REPORTS - The Supreme Lodge Officers' reports were acknowledged

LODGE INCENTIVE PROGRAM - President Leshikar discussed the Lodge

on unanimously adopted motion by Director Broz, and seconded by Director Bayer.

The reports will he placed of record in Exhibits Volume 13.

Legal Advisor Kacir discussed examples of organizations with a purpose who are succeeding because they meet a need. He discussed promotional tapes, rides for elderly and other activities that meet needs of people.

Vice President Gebala stated that President Leshikar's report should discuss the fraternal activities program and the number of activities conducted so we could see if they are meeting their objectives. He pointed out the membership count is reported in the Financial Secretary's report. President Leshikar reported that he cannot respond on an up-to-date report because he has not receive a report from the lodges but would include this as soon as the lodges report to him on their fraternal activities.

Director Vanek suggested that ent areas of the state.

SCHOLARSHIP REVIEW - President Leshikar reported the 1994 scholarship season begins September 1, 1993. The President's Department is sending out information to high schools, colleges and to the media in the attempt to reach more members. He will keep the Supreme Lodge members informed of the progress.

He asked for Supreme Lodge members support when they visit the lodges and talk to members promoting the "100 Pennies" drive. President Leshikar stated that we have received a $1,000.00 donation to the 100 pennies drive. The procedure of going to high schools with the scholarship availability information was questioned. It was explained non-members cannot apply and must buy a certificate in ample time to qualify.

CALENDAR - President Leshikar stated that all the photos and information is being readied for the final process. This year, the printer has been asked to add the Czech name of the months to the calendar. The benefits flyer has been changed slightly and a disclaimer added to communicate requirements to qualify for certain benefits.

Vice President Gebala stated that we have never changed the marketing system and are hindered by bureaucracy and infighting when it comes to appointing sales representatives. He discussed the fact that our sales people are reluctant of taking someone else's customer and it becomes very difficult to get the motivation and production.

President Leshikar discussed the need for incentives. He pointed out that we have not come across to people out in the field that they are appreciated. He discussed an example of an individual who wanted to begin a program and was turned down by the local lodge for many years. After the Home Office approved the incentive program, the same idea was presented for the purpose of qualifying for an award and it was approved by the local lodge.

STATE YOUTH DIRECTOR'S REPORT - There was a review of SYD Joni Lange's report. Items reviewed were Camp 1993, District YADs, State Royalty and State Youth Activity Day and the Camp T-Shirt design contest.

STATE FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR'S REPORT - There was a review of SFAC Frank Klinkovsky's report. It was reported that ten people have volunteered for the San Antonio Habitat for Humanity Project. The project involved construction on a residence for a qualifying family.

There was a review of the Fraternalist of the year award.

NFCA MEMBERSHIP STANDARDS REVIEW - President Leshikar stated that another Society president called last week and stated that the Membership Standards Committee has modified the standards report and will present this to the NFCA Convention in San Antonio, Texas for ratification. He stated that one fraternal is in trouble financially at this time, and the committee felt that if the standards were in operation, then help could be given to this troubled fraternal, and the fraternal system will be better able to police itself.

Also, the committee feels that in the near future, a number of other fraternals will be approaching the danger zone.

PERPETUAL SCHOLARSHIP - President Leshikar reported that the Supreme Lodge Officers met with Joe Flori for discussion about the mechanics of setting up a Perpetual Scholarship Fund. Mr. Flori expressed several disadvantages and potential problems of such a program. On that advice, the Supreme Lodge Officers feel that at this time the disadvantages of the perpetual scholarship far outweigh the advantages, and this proposal should be tabled.

President Leshikar discussed one $8,000.00 donation tentatively accepted from a lodge. The Perpetual Scholarship program was tabled on motion by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

Concerning the $8,000.00 donation from a lodge, a motion was adopted to approach the lodge about transferring the donation to the regular scholarship program. The motion was by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Bayer and it carried unanimously. Financial Secretary Mikulas will make contact with the lodge: YOUTH LIABILITY FORMS - President Leshikar stated that we are looking forward to many exciting challenges with the Youth Department. It is our belief that it is a good idea to add a general disclaimer statement to all forms concerning SPJST liability, and a signed disclaimer statement to all forms concerning SPJST liability, and signed disclaimer statement from chaperones or volunteers attesting to the character of such individuals working with the youth. SALES - Vice President Gebala reported that we are ahead in all aspects of our sales in 1993.

LOCAL LODGE INCENTIVE PROGRAM - Vice President Gebala reported on the lodge incentive program from the standpoint of sales.

ERRORS AND OMISSIONS INSURANCE FOR SPJST SALES REPRESENTATIVES - Vice President Gebala discussed a plan proposed by a local insurance agency. The minimum premium was reported to be $100,000.00. Vice President Gebala recommended that we insure our Sales Representatives with errors and omissions coverage. Suggestion was made that we consider self insuring or set up a reserve each year.

On motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Vavra, it was agreed to look into the possibility of looking into a self-insurance approach. Motion carried unanimously.

VACATIONS FOR FIELD REPRESENTATIVES - Vice President Gebala discussed vacations for field representatives and it was decided that existing rules would apply to 1993 vacations.

VIDEO TAPE PROMOTIONS - Vice President Gebala reported that taping is being done for the Youth Department promotional tape. The Insurance tape will be developed this month. He reported that the Society has paid $2,500 of the total $3,000 due for these two projects.

STATE FIELD MANAGER AND STATE FIELD REPRESENTATIVE REPORTS - Vice President Gebala suggested that to streamline administrative workload, he planned to eliminate state field manager's and state field representative's by monthly reports. He will have this information on file if any Supreme Lodge member needs to know specific circumstances of the field force's location, whereabouts and activities. Duplicating the full report will be discontinued as recommended by Vice President Gebala; however, the state field manager will continue to provide a one-page recap report for the Board of all field personnel activities.

Recess for the day was taken at 10:38 p.m. until 7:30 a.m., September 9, 1993.

Editor Brian Vanicek was present.

He stated we do not want to offend any of our parents most of whom are the chaperones and volunteers. However, we feel that they will be glad to see that we are taking such steps to insure the well-being of their children.

TIME CLOCK - President Leshikar reported that the matter of the time clock was discussed during a Supreme Lodge Officers', meeting and it was felt that a time clock would not be necessary. It was also reported that the Officers were working on written policy for employees on holidays, vacation, etc. Director Hanus suggested that we try a time clock for six months to see how it works. Director Broz commented that he did not feel a time clock was a necessity. Director Vavra stated he was a firm believer in time clocks but was willing to let the officers handle the matter.

MISSION AND GOALS - President Leshikar stated that at the last board meeting the Directors were asked to consider areas particular to our "market niche," where we would have a good growth potential in starting new lodges. There was a discussion about starting new lodges and what this would involve.

Director Pokladnik relinquished the chair to Vice Chairman Vanek to discuss the starting of new lodges. Director Pokladnik stated that we previously encountered problems in starting lodges by promoting lodge hall loans. He stated he would not like to see that happen again. He stated we need to come up with an agenda of organizing new lodges. Chairman of the Board Pokladnik resumed chair of the meeting.

Director Vanek discussed the fact that we work with the inactive lodges that do not want to disband and allow 90 days to the lodge to find sales representatives and that we should work out an advertising program.

MINU'T'ES OF THE SUPREME LODGE OFFICERS' MEETINGS - The minutes of the Supreme Lodge Officers' meeting of July 6, 7, 9, 20, 23, and 28, and August 9, 11, and 24 were approved on motion by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Kohutek.

(d) REO No.189 - Property 1 is a commercial building at 2315 Austin Avenue in Waco, Texas and Property 2 is 1.955 acres on IH 35 north of Waco, Texas.

Book value is $23,055.97. Taxes owing as of August were $9,156.64.

Opinion as to estimate of market value is $20,000 for 2315 Austin Avenue property and $25,000 for the IH 35 property. Total estimate of value for the combined properties is $45,000. Motion by Director Broz, seconded by Director Kohutek that officers and Director Pokladnik have full authority to negotiate on any offer.

LOSS RESERVE ON REAL ESTATE OWNED - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska recommended a loss reserve of $46,500 for REO's and moved approval of a reserve in that amount. The motion was seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

REAL ESTATE LOAN DELINQUENCY - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska referred to a list of loans delinquent three or more months. He reported thirty-one loans delinquent over three months. Of these loans, there are seventeen loans on a workout; three loans in bankruptcy/foreclosure; four loans have an acceptable deferral; and the remainder of the seven loans do not fit into any of the above categories.

A motion was made by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, seconded by President Leshikar and approved unanimously to approve the recommendations for action on the delinquent loans.

LOSS RESERVE ON REAL ESTATE LOANS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the reserve for anticipated loan losses are reviewed at each Supreme Lodge meeting. He stated that based on available information, he recommends a loss reserve of $55,487.51 and referred to a reserve listing by loan on seven real estate loans. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska moved and Financial Secretary Mikulas seconded that the reserves be set as recommended. Motion carried unanimously.

Two lodges were recently penalized by the IRS for failure to file form 990 for previous years. One lodge reportedly was penalized some $9,000 for failure to file and the amount of penalty for the other lodge was not known.

There was discussion about withholding lodge refunds from lodges who do not corn: ply with filing reports with the IRS and furnishing the Home Office with copies. It was decided that Legal Advisor Kacir would write lodges not in compliance.

A short recess was taken from 9:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m.

DIRECT BILL - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the Society has converted 103 lodges to direct bill consisting of 48,155 certificates. This completes 93 percent of our certificate membership and 90 percent of our lodges.

POLICY ON DELINQUENCIES - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska brought up the matter of the length of time to carry past due loans which was brought up by a Board member during the last meeting. He asked for feedback if the Board wants to set policy on when foreclosure is to be instituted. He asked if the Board desires that the formal legal collection process begin automatically at the end of a three month delinquency? He asked the Board to review and either affirm existing policy or set new policy.

DELINQUENT LODGES - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported the following group bill lodges delinquent with July premiums: Lodges 9, 20, 41, 82 and 154.

The matter was discussed and Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska pointed out that the Board reviews recommended action on delinquencies at each bi-monthly meeting. It was decided on motion by Director Kohutek, seconded by Director Broz to affirm the existing policy since we look at delinquencies every two months. Motion carried unanimously.

TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE AUDIT - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that the Department of Insurance auditors had completed their audit as of March 31, 1993. He reported that no financial numbers were changed and the management letter indicated only minor adjustments to be made. The July statement of expenses from the Texas Department of Insurance amounted to $10,063.37 was paid and it brought the grand total to $12,260.28. The August statement is expected to be approximately $13,000.00.

COST OF SMALL LOANS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska responded to a request at the last meeting to look into the possibility of coming up with some way to reduce the application cost and closing fees on small improvement loans. He discussed different approaches such as setting up an allocation which could be carried as non-admitted assets and discussed the limitations created by our By Laws since loan policy is dictated by our ByLaws and the State Insurance Regulations. The matter was discussed at length and it was decided to make notes for possible By Law changes at the next Convention or by a Referendum if a Referendum is held for some other purpose. It was also decided to look into the possibility of some reduction in loan application fees on very small loans if that is economically feasible.

ESCROW ACCOUNTS FOR TAXES AND INSURANCE - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska discussed the ramifications of setting up escrow accounts for real estate loans in response to a Board discussion at our last meeting. He stated that it is his opinion that escrow accounts would require the following changes: 1. New software to do escrow analysis. The existing software was purchased many years ago and would not allow efficient handling of escrow analysis.

2. Dealing with the large number of taxing units would be cumbersome and it is his opinion that the added work could not be handled by existing staff.

3. The requirement would need to be mandatory for all new loans. It would not be practical for escrow to be optional.

After discussion, it was decided on motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Director Vanek not to set up escrow accounts at this time. Motion carried unanimously.

LOAN MODIFICATION PROGRAM - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the response to the modification program the Board approved last meeting has been favorable. As of the end of August, twelve loans have been modified and approximately four loans are in process and the existing program expires on September 9, 1993.

He recommended the program be extended through the first day of the November Supreme Lodge meeting (November 8) unless it is withdrawn earlier if so decided by the Supreme Lodge Officers and a mail poll of directors.

The Modification Program was extended to November 8, 1993 on motion by SecretaryTreasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Bayer. Motion carried unanimously.

LODGE COMPLIANCE - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska informed the Board that the local lodge 990/990T IRS forms were due for filing by May 15, 1993 for 1992 business. He reported the following lodges have not furnished the Home Office with

VESTNIK - Financial Secretary Mikulas stated that the total Vestnik subscription list now stands at 9,448. The weekly postage now amounts to approximately $1,244.00 and publishing costs amount to $995.

The audit report was reviewed page by page. Financial Secretary Mikulas stated the Texas Insurance Department used four auditors and used 736 man-hours of time in the Home Office for the audit.

There was no change in any of the figures on the Society financial statement. The management letter was reviewed and the eight listed items were discussed as follows: 1. A verbal conflict of interest statement by Board members would not be sufficient and we are in process of adopting a written conflict of interest policy.

2. A preferred stock which was sold since the year end report should have been valued at cost of $46,181 instead of the market value of.$52,250.

3. A mortgage of $13,725 taken as additional collateral for a delinquency should not have been carried with mortgage loans because we did not have full appraisal documentation and other required mortgage papers.

4. There was a difference of $10,343 between our calculations of interest overdue over 90 days and the Society account for interest not due over 90 days that was interpreted by the auditors to be due over 90 days.

5. The sum of $1,128 for excess certificate loans should have been non admitted under "Certificate loans and liens" instead of Investment income due and accrued.

6. The Society used gross premiums in the calculation of premiums collected by subordinated lodges and not yet remitted. Net premiums should have been used in this calculation. In addition, the Society included the entire year's premiums in this balance sheet item without offsetting this amount by an advance premium. The discrepancy noted in this item was approximately $5,000.

7. The Society did not include amounts used to purchase paid up additions of insurance in the item. Refunds due and unpaid in the March 31, 1993 quarterly statement. This discrepancy amounted to approximately $39,818.

8. Premiums for the Society's modified whole life policies were not included in the liability item Advance premiums. For policies having advance premiums of over one year, the premiums for the whole years were not being recorded and included in the Advance premium liability on the March 31, 1993, quarterly statement. The total discrepancy amounted to approximately $9,000.

ter were reviewed and accepted on motion by Director Broz, seconded by Director Hanus and carried unanimously.

REFUND TO LODGES 1993 - Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to a report indicating the 1992 refund to lodges and projected 1993 refund. He reported that the projected refund was calculated by taking the number of paid up certificates times $2.00 and premium paying certificates times $6.00. These amounts are reflected in the projected 1993 refund amount. Amounts were calculated as of August 25, 1993. He pointed out that the incentive program will also pay approximately $25,000.00 to local lodges.

A projection of the refund to lodges was reviewed and suggestions were made for changes to be included in a projection to be considered in the November Supreme Lodge meeting. It was agreed the formula should be as simple as possible and we should strongly emphasize communication of the information to our lodges.

INCENTIVE PROGRAM - Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to a report showing that sixteen lodges have qualified for one of the award categories based on number of certificates written subject to their meeting the fraternal requirements.

VESTNIK SURVEY - Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to a proposed letter to be sent to each Vestnik recipient requiring return to continue their Vestnik. Financial Secretary Mikulas reviewed the actual projected letter and return card and estimated the cost to be $4,200.

Director Broz asked if the letter could be sent to all members including those not now receiving the Vestnik. Financial Secretary Mikulas cautioned the Board about the cost increase if a substantial number of the 18,000 not receiving the Vestnik want to receive it.

It was decided on motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Gebala that a survey be mailed out to those receiving the Vestnik require return of a card to continue receiving it, as proposed by Financial Secretary Mikulas, and a flyer be included with the calendar with a clip off coupon to mail in to get the Vestnik. Motion carried unanimously.

LEGAL WORK ON PENDING LOANS - Legal Advisor Kacir referred to a detailed listing of legal work in process on some thirty-three loans.

NEW BUSINESS NEW EMPLOYEE - President Leshikar reported he hired a new employee, Barbara Kovacevich, to assist with museum tours and general office work. Director Hanus asked for explanation of duties, salary and asked if President Leshikar could not have held up hiring the employee until he provided information to the directors.

The discussion turned to general matter involving the museum and Director Vanek expressed concern about protecting the museum items in the museum due to theft.

LODGE OFFICERS' WORKSHOP - President Leshikar will be responsible for the 1994 Lodge Officers' workshop and he invited input and suggestions from the Board members.

EMPLOYEE SALARIES - There was a discussion about how salary adjustments would be handled for 1994. It was agreed that the officers would arrive at a recommendation for salary adjustments for consideration in the November Supreme Lodge meeting. Each officer should evaluate his employees and make a recommendation within 10 days before the November meeting.

CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR EMPLOYEES - It was agreed this item would be placed on the agenda for the November Supreme Lodge Meeting.

PRESIDENTS' GROUP - President Leshikar indicated he would attend a meeting of the group on September 13, 1993 in Chicago.

DRUG ABUSE VIDEO - President Leshikar reported on another fraternal's willingness to share a drug abuse and usage video they developed. No action taken.

The Board discussed alternative lodge programs. After discussion, Legal Advisor Kacir made a motion that the following SPJST sponsored programs be scheduled in two lodges to involve multiple lodges and be coordinated by the Supreme Lodge President: 1. A speaker on Home Safety and how elderly can protect themselves.

2. Drug abuse prevention geared for the young.

The motion was seconded by Director Broz. Motion carried unanimously.

TAX SUITS - Report was made on five suits for delinquent taxes in connection with mortgage loan properties. Legal Advisor Kacir stated that one of the matters involved a loan paid off in 1971 in which case the borrower did not have their Release of Lien recorded.

FORECLOSURES/BANKRUPTCIES - Legal Advisor Kacir gave an update on matters in process.

TITLE POLICIES - Legal Advisor Kacir discussed the fact that title companies do not insure - they indemnify and he discussed the differences in these terms.

Editor Vanicek stated that he needed to work on the Vestnik and could not be present for the remainder of the meeting.

Recess for lunch was taken from 11:30 a.m. until 12 noon.

ASSIGNMENTS ON LOANS BEING REFINANCED - Legal Advisor Kacir discussed the difficulties encountered in a few instances where members applied to refinance their mortgage with SPJST and the mortgage company would not assign the lien to SPJST. DIRECTORS' OLD BUSINESS DIRECTOR VAVRA - He spoke briefly and stated he did not have anything specific to report.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK - He discussed the importance of communication of officers.

DIRECTOR BROZ - He briefly reported on his activities.

DIRECTOR HANUS - He discussed his activities. He stated opinion that everyone should be willing to give something back to the SPJST. DIRECTOR VANEK - He discussed attendance at socials and activities, the District VI and State YAD. He reported on sales activities. Director Vanek referred to a news article in the Hallettsville newspaper recollecting a news article from some 50 years ago about the dedication of the SPJST B-24 Bomber during World War II. The article recalled that the funds for purchase of the craft were raised within the SPJST in response to the war effort.

BUDGET FOR EACH DEPARTMENT - President Leshikar reported that he thought we should begin the process to establish a budget for each department, so that we can do cost breakouts and begin to establish a system to help us cut costs, streamline operations and run the home office business for the best efficiency. There was discussion about substantial changes that would have to be made to be able to properly allocate supplies, phone and other expenses by department. No action taken.

NFCA FLOOD AID - President Leshikar suggested that we establish a matching funds program for local lodges in which lodges would be encouraged to make donations to be matched by the Supreme Lodge.

On motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Vice President Gebala, it was decided to send a donation of $350 to flood aid on behalf of the members of this Society. The motion carried. Director Bayer abstained from the vote.

TEXAS FRATERNAL CONGRESS - Vice President Gebala requested permission for individuals to attend the TFC. The Supreme Lodge members, and Editor Vanicek are authorized to attend. It was agreed that for this TI-C the following additional persons be authorized to attend: SFM McBride; SYD Lange; Evelyn Mikeska, FIC; and up to 2 people from each department (no exchange between departments).

Motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska and carried unanimously.

The staff in attendance would be expected to provide administrative assistance to Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska at the TFC registration. A short recess was taken 3:45 p.m. to 3:55 p.m.

INVESTMENTS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska brought up for consideration the ratification of investments including real estate loans for the period beginning July 1, 1993 through August 31, 1993. The investments were ratified on unanimously adopted motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Bayer.

DIRECTOR BAYER - He reported that he thought the SYAD was fabulous.

INVESTMENT POLICY - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska asked for the usual review of Investment Policy as required. The policy was reviewed. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska asked for feedback about investment in carefully selected collateralized mortgage obligations and referred the Board to information he had provided on Collateralized Mortgage Obligations (CMOs).

DIRECTOR POKLADNIK - He discussed the recent effort by the NFCA to adopt the Model Fraternal Code in Texas and reported on a recent meeting in Austin. He observed that from all indications, the NFCA would not push for adoption of the Model Fraternal Code in Texas in 1993.

He asked for feedback on CMOs and whether the Board wanted to place a limitation on these securities and the matter was discussed. A motion was adopted to reflect that the investment policy was reviewed and affirmed. The motion was by SecretaryTreasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Hanus and it carried unanimously.

EMPLOYEE POLICY - There was extensive discussion about the proposed employee policy manual in process. The discussion included handling of vacations, comp time, the definition of an employee and other pertinent matters.

UNIVERSAL LIFE - The matter of setting a rate on Universal Life was taken up.

Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the current rate effective through 9-30-93 is 7 percent and the guaranteed rate is 4.5 percent.

He reported that * he and President Leshikar would be in Wallis on September 21, 1993 at a lodge meeting to consider disbanding of the Wallis lodge.

DIRECTOR KOHUTEK- He invited everyone to the District II fall meeting in Taylor. He stated that he was proud of the good job the officers are doing for the Society.

DIRECTOR BROZ - He discussed his contacts in District IV and discussed his efforts to increase sales. He discussed the need for appropriating some money for advertising in some test areas to see what could be developed. He spoke complimentarily about the fact that the SPJST with its A.M. Best A rating is the highest rated Texas domiciled fraternal Society.

He invited everyone to the the District IV meeting on October 2,1993.

DIRECTOR HANUS - He discussed fraternal activities in District V and commented favorably on a charitable cancer detection program supported by Lodge No. 172, Pasadena.

He questioned when the second Czech Language tape would be complete and was informed it should be available by the November Supreme Lodge meeting.

Gross spread on Annuity II 2.567%; however, it was pointed out that this spread is not the actual realized spread since $1 million of high yielding assets was initially allocated to Annuity II and the actual realized spread is less than 2 percent.

After discussion, it was decided to set the following rates on Annuity I and II: Annuity I - The rate effective October 1, 1993 will remain at 5 percent through November 30, 1993.

Annuity II - The rate effective October 1, 1993 will remain at 5.8 percent through November 30, 1993.

The motion approving the new rates was by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska discussed the fact that the Texas Insurance Department examiners advised us that each Supreme Lodge member should sign a written statement concerning conflict of interest. This will require a Resolution defining our policy on conflict of interest and a written form to be executed by everyone. Legal Advisor Kacir had presented a draft of the required Resolution and forms and these items were postponed until the November Supreme Lodge meeting to allow time to review the draft.

NEW EQUIPMENT - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska expressed the need for an additional P C. for his department. He stated that if approved, he would first clear through the EDP Committee and inform the Board of the cost. After discussion, the request was approved on motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by President Leshikar subject to the stipulations reported. Motion carried unanimously.

FINANCIAL STATEMENT - Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to the financial statement for the first eight months of this year and compared income and expenses. expenses were up 1 1 percent over the same period primarily attributable to increase in the number and amount of death claims. It was pointed out that we have no control over death claims. The income and expenses were discussed and compared.

Director Hanus discussed the increase in the Bingo tax that Lodge 88 was paying and how they handled the matter. He spoke about being proud that the state King is from District V. DIRECTOR VANEK - He asked if we would look into the possibility of allowing a small discount to members who pay their premiums by bank draft.

He stated that they had secured a new sales representative in Placedo.

He stated that his district was proud that they have the State Queen in District VI. DIRECTOR BAYER - He reported he was asked by a lodge to see if some requirement could be instituted to set a guideline to require a parent to be a member before a youth could be written for membership. He stated that one lodge is concerned about a lodge becoming a baby sitting service where children are the only members in some families.

He discussed the need for sales representatives in District VII. DIRECTOR POKLADNIK - He stated he appreciated everyone's cooperation and approval of the meeting date change.

He brought up the museum and the convention authorization for a committee to study long-range plans for the museum. There was discussion about possibly having the committee meet sometime during the latter half of 1994. The committee is composed of the four standing committee chairpersons and Thelrm. Hrncir and the Supreme Lodge President.

Director Pokladnik stated we now have $1 million endowment supporting the Czech Chair at the University of Texas in Austin.

He stated he thought we had a good meeting and that it was important to bring out good ideas. He discussed the changing times and the need to keep our members interested in the SPJST and challenged everyone to, try harder.

Director Pokladnik announced that the next regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge would begin at 8:30 a.m. on November 8 and 9.

There being no further business, Chairman Pokladnik adjourned the meeting at 4:55 p.m.

BUDGET 1993 - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that expenses have reached 69 percent of the budgeted amounts and was of the opinion that we were well within our Budget.

Supreme Lodge Congratulates Kathy Fritz

CERTIFICATE COUNT - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that as of 8-31-93 our total certificate count amounted to 51,694 which included annuities. Of this total amount, we have a total of 20,450 premium paying members and 31,244 paid up members. All information reported to the Department of Insurance requires certificate count; however, our membership amounts to 39,810.

CLARIFICATION OF INTEREST PAID ON ANNUITIES - Financial Secretary Mikulas discussed the method of interest calculation on our annuities. He state that interest is credited on all annuities on a daily compounded basis with a rate equivalent to 5 percent on Annuity I and 5.8 percent on Annuity II annually. The interest rate is subject to change without notification. The certificate does not reflect the method of interest paid; therefore, he recommended this method be recorded in our minutes. Our actuary has reviewed this method and agrees with the above.

BINGO - Legal Advisor Kacir reported that the Bingo regulations were being placed under the Texas Lottery Commission, DIRECTORS' NEW BUSINESS DIRECTOR VAVRA - He stated the officers' reports were all good and informative and he appreciated receiving them early.

Dear Members, Members of Lodge 24, Cyclone met on Monday, November 8, for their regular monthly meeting. All officers were in attendance.

Following opening procedures, a moment of silence was observed in memory of our departed members. The following members of the community were reported on the sick list: George Schiller, Laura Schneider, Jewell Dean Schneider and District Two DYC Patsy Koslovsky.

Following the minutes of the previous. meeting, Secretary Arleen Mayeux reported that thank you notes had been received from the Rudy Sefcik Family and from Scott & White Hospital for hosting their recent Children's Miracle Network Benefit Dance. One new member, Charlotte Bennett, was also voted on and accepted for membership. Welcome to Lodge 24.

Committee chairs all delivered their reports. Youth Leader Shirley Ashcraft also presented her report on recent Youth Club activities including a November fund raiser, a canned food drive, and the

recent District Two trip to Six Flags.

In new business, members voted to host the Annual Lodge 24 Christmas Party on Sunday, December 12. The social hour will begin at 3 p.m., followed by a youth program and dinner at 5 p.m.

The lodge will be furnishing turkey and dressing and drinks for the meal.

Members are each asked to bring a covered dish menu item to add to the dinner.

In new business, lodge members elected lodge officers for 1994. The Lodge 88, Houston dining hall was packed with those who attended the District Five Fall Meeting and Family Fun Day held on Saturday, September 18.

More than 400 people turned out to support the Children's Miracle Network Dance sponsored by Scott and White Hospital at Flag Hall on October 30. Reports on Quarterly Lodge Meeting Dear Members, Lodge No. 49 held its last quarterly meeting on Wednesday, November 3, 1993 in the Lodge Hall at 7 p.m.

President Elizabeth Walther brought the meeting to order and conducted the meeting in proper order.

The minutes were read, and with a minor correction, accepted as read.

The President said that scholarship applications were being accepted until December 31, 1993. District Four Director Stanley Broz stated that 16 additional scholarships were also available to to the youth through the districts through the Youth Department merit points program.

Members voted to send a memorial to the SPJST Memorial Scholarship Fund in memory of Rudy Sefcik, the late editor of the Vestnik, SPJST Herald.

We have one new member, Madison Renee Porter of Lubbock. Madison is the great-granddaughter of Elizabeth Walther.

We lost one member, Annie Hoch Filgas, of California. She was Director Broz's aunt.

Our next game night will be on November 19th in the Lodge Hall. Our

Sunshine and Memorial Committee Pat Tomlinson Birthday contributors were: Elizabeth Walther, James Teplicek, Brad Teplicek, and Craig Teplicek.

Celebrates Czech Heritage Day On October 24, 1993, Lodge 88 had a most enjoyable day. We celebrated our favorite day. History teaches us and we remember the dear stories our parents told us. We must not forget how much they suffered and had to overcome so we, their offspring, could live in America without fear, without cares, and with the motto:

Equality, Harmony and Brotherhood The entertainment for Czech Day at Lodge 88 started with our Lodge 88 Czech Concert Orchestra under the direction of Jim Rohde and the Lodge 88 Choral Group under the direction of Tim Kostom. The colors were presented by our flag bearers. Helen Hegwood, accompanied by Naomi Spencer at the piano, was well-received by those in attendance. The "Star-Spangled Banner" and "Kde Domov Muj" always adds to the the spirit of our day.

I will never forget Nick Morris, past president of the SPJST, when he delivered the most beautiful speech on Czech Day. It was soon after our present lodge was built. It was a long speech, but everybody stayed glued to their chairs.

We had many dance groups entertain, including the Hungarian Folk Dancers, who performed in memory of our own Erna O'Connor's son, Joe Gooden, who was dancing at some event and passed away "doing what he enjoyed most." He danced with the group on. Czech Day, 1992. He was a fine young man. We miss him very much.

Also performing into the evening were the Texas Czech Fold Singers, directed by Norbert Blazek; the Fayettville Czech Heritage Singers and Dancers, directed

by Helen Mikus, and the Texas Czechmates, directed by Jerry Fabrygel.

The beautiful "Parade of Czech Costumes" followed. Vrazel's band then played for a free dance from 5 until 9 p.m.

The Men's Club had a prize drawing at the first intermission and it was a big success.

The winners were: 1. Frank Tilich, who received a $75 gift certificate from Krogers.

2. Ellen Miculka, who received a $75 gift certificate from Randall's, 3. Philomene Saha, who received a gift certificate for $75 from J.C. Penney.

4. Tony Vindett, who received a gift certificate for $75 from Wal-Mart.

5. Walter Koeppen, who received paper towels from Roy Bel and Co. 6. Louis Hanus, who received garbage can liners from Roy-Bel and Co. 7. Stacy Kocich, who received chicken fajitas from Jake's Egg Co. 8. Marlene Migl, who received breaded catfish strips from Jake's Egg Co. 9. Doris Knapick, who received 15 dozen eggs from Jake's Egg Co. 10 Lydia Marsh, who received 10 pounds of beef patties from Jake's Egg Co. 11. Carolyn Filips, who received cleaning supplies from Basic Products on Airline Drive.

12. Tim Kostom, who received an autographed Nolan Ryan baseball from Karl Lindemann; and 13. John Becan of Dallas, who received a tape from the Vrazels.

On November 3, 1993, our Men's Club, under the leadership of President Ed Miculka and Vice President Tom Marsh, decided to get up a group to go to League City to the dog races. I think, not sure, we had 70 people sign up and that was fun.

We traveled by bus—brand new busses and the accommodations were great. The people treated us royally with good food and a good "dog show." We all had a few dollars in our hands when we left to go home, and everyone asked, "When are we going again?"

On November 7, 1993, my children Arlene and Al and some of my grandchildren were here so we celebrated Adam's 11th birthday. After church we all went

out to eat and Adam picked out a place called "Pancho's." He said, "`Mimmie,' I don't think you like this place, but after all, it's my birthday." It was a good meal.

Committee Recalls Warmth and Service of Ernest G. Lewis, Jr. The Entertainment Committee of Lodge 88 lost a very important member who has been a great asset to this committee for many years.

Ernest G. Lewis, Jr. passed away on October 5, 1993. He is survived by his wife, Irene; daughter, Betsy Bentley; son, Bryan Lewis; and his grandchildren, who were his pride and joy, Patrick and Kelley Bentley and Jonathan Lewis.

Ernie loved Lodge 88 and his many friends there. He and Irene danced through 42 happy years, always delighting their coworkers and friends with their humor and positive attitude. They loved to work the "Big Band Dances" and those coming to the Chandelier Ballroom enjoyed seeing them. They faithfully put together the Lodge Quarterly Bulletin, making sure that all committees were included.

May our brother Ernest rest in peace.

We shall all miss him.

Enjoys Halloween Costume Dance Dear Members and Friends, What a nice morning—October 31.

The sun is shining and it is starting to warm up after a freeze last night. This is the earliest freeze on record that we have had. If you did not take care of your plants and flowers, they will not be pretty any more this year. My wife, Christine, has a beautiful begonia in an iron wash kettle. We covered it with paper, but it still froze some. Even though it was under the car port, the leaves look frozen.

We have to understand that it is the time of year for cold cold weather.

Tonight is the night that ghosts and trickor-treaters will be roaming the neighborhood for candy and whatever. It will be cold and I am sure everyone will dress for the weather.

I want to let the readers of the Vestnik know what a nice dance we had on October 30th. Every year it seems that there are more and more who come dressed in costume. This year, those in costume included a large bear, a large white rabbit and a big horse that took people to make it move. It was a sight to see. There were also plenty of witches and others in funny dress. It was difficult for the judges to pick the winners. To me, all of them were winners.

The music by the Rejcek band was very nice. The famous Hubenak hamburgers were also for sale. Gordon Hubenak had one made about the size of a large dinner plate. It was auctioned off to the highest bidder. I am sure whoever got it could not eat it all at once.

Heritage Society of Texas to Meet November 20 Czech

The Czech Heritage Society of Texas holds its Fall State Meeting on Saturday, Nov. 20 at the Parish Hall in St. Mary's Parish west of Hallettsville.

Registration begins at 10 a.m.

From 10 until 11:30, there will be a genealogical swap and share session.

The public is invited to bring family trees, old photographs and interesting stories to share with the group. The business meeting starts at 12:30 p.m.

Kolaches and other culinary delights will be sold. Lunch will be served at 11:30 for a nominal fee. The Moravian Czech Heritage Singers will provide entertainment. In addition, Victor Peter, CHS Trustee, will give a report on the current state of affairs in Moravia .

Kevin Hannan, doctoral candidate in the Department of Slavic Languages at the University of Texas, will present a program at 2:30 p.m. titled "The Moravian Speech of Texas."

Youth Letters Section Lodge 9, Snook Youth Club Reports on November Meeting Dear Vesinik Readers, The Lodge No. 9 Youth Club's November meeting was well attended.

We had an excellent slide presentation by Randy and Rebecca See on their 4-H exchange trip to Oregon. Thanks, Randy and Rebecca.

We discussed new charity projects for the Youth Club. We made and signed "Get Well" cards for Mandy Baumann, a youth club member, and other people in our community. We also discussed this year's Christmas party and program. The party will be December 5th.

We adjourned with the Lord's Prayer.

Our honorary grandparents, Charles and Charlene Lednicky, treated the Youth Club members to doughnuts.

Lodge 40, El Campo-Hillje Youth Club Reports on Meeting Dear Readers, The November 4, 1993 meeting of the Lodge No. 40 Youth Club was called to order by Martha Bartos. Jody Krpec led the Pledge of Allegiance. There were four members present. The secretary's report was approved as read. The treasurer collected dues.

Under old business, the November District Six Meeting in Victoria was discussed and that there would be an orna-

ment contest. We then talked about the tee-shirt contest. Members need to be sure to get their design in by January 31st.

We also talked about the SPJST 100 Pennies Scholarship Drive.

Under new business, it was decided that at Christmas, we will given an item to a family in need.

Poems were read and door prizes were awarded. We worked on projects after the meeting and enjoyed the refreshments brought by Martha Bartos.

The next meeting will be December 2 at 7 pm. in the Commercial State Bank Gold Room.

Dear Readers, The November 7th meeting of the Lodge 47 Youth Club was called to order at 2:15 p.m. by Vice President E.J. Pechal. Randall Marek led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and the Club Motto.

The register was read. There were 22 members and three adults present. Guest introduced was Amber Pechal. We welcome a new member to our Youth Club, Miss Rachael Baca.

The minutes were read and approved and Youth Leader Judy Pechal gave the treasurer's report.

We drew names for our Christmas party which will be held on December 10. We have not yet designated a time or place. We plan to make Christmas ornaments this month to go on the tree for the Mother Lodge. Plans to pick trash were also discussed depending on the weather.

Youth Leader Judy Pechal reminded everyone about the camp tee-shirt contest and encouraged us to be working on our designs.

The Youth Club sent .a card and a balloon bouquet to Patsy Koslovsky. Patsy, we are wishing you a speedy recovery and hope that your are doing better every day.

Door prizes were won by Jessica Kirby and Lisa Greger. Members with birthdays in the month of November are Judy Pechal, Shannon Pechal and Rachael Baca. Our next meeting will be on December 5th at 2 p.m. Our meeting was adjourned at 3:05 p.m.

Lodge 88, Houston Youth Club Reports on October Meeting Dear Members and Readers, President Corey Gray called the meeting to order at 6:45 pm. on Wednesday, October 20. We had 24 members, five guests and nine adults present. This is a good turnout for a cold and rainy night.

We discussed the upcoming Halloween party at Lodge 142. This is an annual District Five Party. It started at 7 p.m. There would be a costume contest.

We were reminded to bring snacks in addition to the Youth Club providing the meat and bread for sandwiches.

The youth were also asked if they could assist the Men's Club with selling prize drawing tickets to the people attending Czech Day on Sunday, October 31..

We were also reminded that this would be on Halloween. Several of our youth members would be participating in the Parade of Costumes. We also discussed the Teen Social night to Silo X, a haunted house. The outing was for members, age 13 and older.

The Houston Zoo was the choice for our November 6 social. We hoped the weather will cooperate. We planned to meet at the zoo at 10 a.m. and bring a sack lunch.

Youth Leader Barbara Linney asked how many would be interested in seeing the Christmas play, "Angel's Wings" on Saturday, December 4 in Pasadena.

Many of the youth have gone to the Christmas programs in the past and liked them very much. Youth Leader Linney will get a head count of interested persons by the first weekend in November.

Lindsey Michalek has taken the position of Charities Committee Chairperson.

She discussed bringing old eye glasses to the lodge and contributing towards the Eye Bank collection. She also wants to collect canned goods and make holiday baskets for needy families. Lindsey also mentioned an AIDS Walk that was to be held on Sunday, November 7. It was decided that there was not enough information available or time to get pledge forms and collect pledges in time to support this walk.

Assistant Youth Leader Bender gave information on the upcoming Christmas Program, "Christmas Comes to Texas."

We made plans to meet on Saturday, October 29 to further discuss all of the parts involved and to choose parts.

Rehearsal Schedule is as follows: Saturday, November 13 10:30 a.m. -12:00 noon; Saturday, November 20 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon; Tuesday, November 30 After Tree Trimming at 7 p.m.

Saturday, December 4 10:30 a.m. - 12:00 noon Remember, this program will be on Monday, December 6 at 7 p.m. and be performed at the Lodge Christmas Party.

The Choral Group will be performing Christmas carols.

Assistant Youth Leader Zalesky asked how many would like to spend a Saturday or Sunday afternoon making crafts. We were al interested, but with so many other activities forthcoming, this will be tabled until next year. A date will be set—possibly in January.

John Ondrusek, who was the husband of Ms. Tina, a dear friend of the Youth Club members, passed away on Saturday, October 2. We were all saddened to hear

of his death. Ms. Tina has been baking delicious pies for the Thursday night bingo for several years and donating them to the Youth Club to sell. We had sent her a card and a motion was made to make a $50 donation to the SPJST Scholarship Fund in his memory. We will also check wit the Mother Lodge and arrange to have a tree or rose bush planted next to the gazebo in honor of Ms. Tina and Mr. John.

We were also told of the passing of Warren Havemann, grandfather to five of our youth members. The District Five youth will also make a donation in his memory to the SPJST Scholarship Fund.

DYC Marie Stayton talked about the SPJST "100 Pennies Scholarship Drive."

She also discussed how merit points can be earned by making a donation. She is also checking into a trip to San Antonio and also to Temple to see the Christmas tree and SPJST Museum.

Youth Leader Linney told us about the upcoming contest to design the camp Tshirt. "Joining Hands and Hearts" is the theme for 1994.

Members celebrating birthdays in October were sung "Happy Birthday." the meeting adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

107, Floresville Youth Club Has A Busy October

Dear Readers, The youth of Lodge 107 had one very busy month in October. During the month we all had in helping make all o that peanut brittle and candied peanuts.

On October 9th, we sold the peanu products at the Peanut Festival. On October 17th, District Seven went to Fiesta Texas.

On October 24th, Lodge 107, Floresville, sponsored our District Seven Fall Meeting and Fun Day. And we had fun. We also o had great weather. The cake walk was the best. Those who played won more than just cakes—there were also peanuts, crafts and plants.

Thank you, District Seven, for turning out for the occasion.

November Meeting Update—We had our November meeting on November 5th. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy Reed at 3:40 p.m. There were five youth and two adults present. Casey Reed lead the Pledge of Allegiance.

We all discussed what to do for our next meeting as a Christmas project.

Casey and Dorothy Reed made and seconded the motion to have a tree walk at our next meeting on December 12th.

Cheryl Morrisey made a motion for us to bring gifts one male gift and one female gift for the nursing home for Christmas.

It was also called to our attention that we need to have a phone committee to remind the youth of the upcoming dates.

We will be calling everyone about the Christmas party. Please try to come and join in the fun at our Christmas party.
