KIMBERLY L. HUBNIK Kimberly is a member of Lodge No. 24, Cyclone and a graduate of Rogers High School.

Her parents are Louis and Nancy (Bartek) Hubnik. Grandparents are Mary and the late John Hubnik and the late Wm. F. and Bertha Bartek.

Kimberly, who got married this month, graduated with honors this spring from Texas A&M Univesity where she majored in nutrition.

JEFFERY PETER PESEK Rhonda is a member of Lodge No. 88, Houston and an honor graduate of Commerce High School. Her parents are Ronnie and Dorothy Lathrop and her grandparents are Frank Tilich and the late Mary Tilich.

Rhonda has joined the U.S. Navy. Following basic training in Orlando, Fla., she will serve in San Diego, and pursue a degree in journalism and photography.

Calvin is a member of Lodge No. 15, Buckholts and a graduate of Buckholts High School. His parents are Mine and James Junek and his grandfather is Dan Hoelscher.

Calvin is planning to attend Texas State Technical College this fall.

Jeffery is a member of Lodge No. 79, Corpus Christi and a graduate of Tuloso-Midway High School.

He is the son of George and Anna Pesek and the grandson of Tom and Lillie Pesek (Deceased) and Pete and Annie Elzner (Deceased).

Jeffery plans to major in physical education at Texas A&M, University where, incidentally, his father, brother, and two sisters are teachers.

A Coed 7 ig Jst Got Better For anyone of Czech or Moravian descent trying to track down their family tree, or anyone interested in Czech or Moravian literature, history or geographical information,the SPJST Library, located on the ground level of the SPJST Home Office Building in Temple, is a great place to start. Until I started working out of the Home Office, I had no idea of scope of the collection. And, now thanks to a generous donation by Milady Hejl of Fort Worth, Texas, the collection is that much more complete Mrs. Hejl, the wife of the late and respected Czech historical researcher Edmound H. Hejl, recently donated a cf ollection nine o books on Texas Czech genealogy and history to the SPJST Library. The nine new books, which comprise the "Czech Footprints Across the Bluebonnet Fields of Texas Series" should serve as extremely valuable resources for genealogical researchers.

The nine books , which focus primarily on birth, baptismal, marriage and death records, are titled as o %s L St John the Baptist Catholic ChurchAmmannsville -

Last week marked the first anniversary of the 26th Convention of the SPJST held June 15-17 in Victoria. If . you were a delegate to this convention, then you vvill recall t the anticipation, deliberation and decision-making that took place dur/ ing the proceedings.

District News arid Updates Attention All Lodges in District Three The District Three Fraternal Fest will be held on Sunday, October 24, 1993 at Lodge No. 25, Ennis, Texas. All lodges in District Three wishing to help or wanting to set up a booth at the festival, please

District Three Youth Acheivement Day Scheduled for June 27 at Lodge 66 The District Three Y.A.D. will be held at Lodge 66 in Elm Mott on June 27, 1993.

Registration will be from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Complimentary refreshments of orange juice and doughnuts, donated by the Youth Club and coffee and kolaches donated by the lodge will be served at 10 a.m.

A fried chicken lunch with all of the trimmings, dessert, coffee and tea will be served from 11:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m.

A large plate will be $4 and a small plate will be $3.

The youth program will start at 12:30 p.m.

This is the only youth program put on by the District. Let us please support our youth on this very important day!

State FAC Reminds Volleyball Players of Changes in SPJST Tournament Rules This is a reminder of the date and changes in the rules governing the 1993 SPJST State Volleyball Tournament.

The date of the tournament will be November 20, 1993 in Temple at the Temple Recreation Gym, located one block away from the SPJST Home Office.

The rule change is as follows: We have lowered the age of team players to 15. If you will be 15 years old on the date of the tournament, then you will be allowed to be a team player. We have lowered the age to 15 in an effort to

increase team activity.

The rest of the rules remain the me and will be published at a later date.

Please start organizing your teams and start practicing now. Also, be sure and mark your calendar for the tournament date.

Letters from the Lodges Lodge 1, aye ville and Fayette County Czech Heritage Society Hold Picnic The Fayetteville SPJST Lodge No. 1 and the Fayette County Czech Heritage Society had a joint picnic at Polansky's Lake at Rek Hill on Sunday, June 6, 1993.

Picnics are always a lot of fun and a casual way to have a good time. Most of all the easiest on the cooks; however, everyone did bring a covered dish and dessert prepared beforehand for this affair. When the food was set out, it was truly a gala meal and the glorious fresh air did wake up the keen appetites. We did, however, have to to hold on to the plates because it was a bit "windy," but that was also an excuse to keep putting more food on the plate.

It was also a challenge to play cards because of the wind, but that didn't stop anyone. Several even played dominoes and had to hold onto them as well because of the gusty winds but the pros never complained.

A business meeting was held after the meal. President muddy Polansky gave an update on the repairs made to the SPJST Hall and the installation of a handicap ramp at the back of the hall and additional lighting installed in the kitchen area.

At this meeting, two directors were elected. They are Bonnie Rohde and Rose Rohde. oth of these members and their entire families are 100 percent SPJST families. Rose has been a member since October 1, 1973. A third director will be elected at the December meeting.

Mr. Jerry John Slavik was the honoree at this event as he has attained a 50-year membership with the SPJST this year and President Polansky presented him with a 50-year membership pin. Again, congratulations to Mr. Slavik! Mrs. Sydonia Rosali Benton has also reached this milestone; however, she was not able to attend this meeting.

The Fayette Czech Singers entertained everyone with some of the songs they will sing at the International Music Festival at the Wallachian Open-Air Museum in Roznov pod Radrostem, Moravia during their upcoming visit to the Czech Republic.

This concluded the day's activities and to those who were unable to come, we missed you and hope that you can come to the next meeting.

Lodge 15, Buckholts Reports on June Meeting Buckholts Lodge No. 15 met on Tuesday, June 8 at 7 p.m. with President Gladys Allison presiding.

The meeting was called to order, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for our deceased members. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was also given and approved. All committee reports were given and approved.

Reported on the sick list were Jeanett Glaser and Douglas K. Williams who had minor surgery and is now doing fine.

Members, we are working toward a countywide garage sale to be held on August 14. More details will come to you later.

Alicia Williams was presented with an SPJST scholarship. She will be attending Texas A&M University to study medicine. Everyone enjoyed a covered dish meal to honor Alicia.

Our next meeting will be on July 13 at 7 p.m. All members are encouraged to come out and help make plans for our garage sale.

Forty-one members were in attendance for the June, Tuesday evening meeting.

Welcomed as visitors were Freddie Schroeder and Ann Balusek.

On the sick list were Wallace Jez, Harry Gersbach and Wanona Sula. A quick recovery is wished to all of them.

Secretary Dolores Skrabanek read the roll call and minutes. Correspondence included an invitation from the Supreme Lodge to its Flag Day ceremony.

Board minutes were read by Secretary of the Board Edwin Vasicek, which were listened to with interest.

First Vice President Edwin Pechal included in his report information on the barbecue cook-off.

FAC Dorothy Pechal reported that the Czech class was going well with instructor and exchange student Martin Valko, who is leading the 15+ students through an interesting, informative study of the Czech language. She also reminded the members of the state volleyball tournament.

All officers and chairpersons' reports were given and favorably received.

Youth Leader Judy Pechal reported one visitor, three adults and 22 members in attendance to witness State FAC Frank Klinkovsky install the newly-elected Youth Club officers.

Brother Frank Klinkovsky called for our audit, Wednesday, July 7 at 7:30 p.m.

Birthday celebrants were Frank Klinkovsky, Martha Klusacek and Calvin Skrabanek.

Celebrating an anniversary was Frank and Irma Klinkovsky.

Winning "Father's Day" only prizes were Dan Balusek, Eugene Hejl, Woodrow Marek, Henry Mares and Calvin Skrabanek.

It is important to note that the July meeting date has been changed from Sunday, July 4 to Tuesday, July 6 at 7:30 p.m. with no covered dish supper.

88, Houston Reports on Lodge Activities

On June 7, 1993, Bill and Alice Souchek celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary at Lodge 88. Some of their friends took pictures and also taped the whole affair. We know that Mr. Souchek will tell jokes, but rarely does Alice say anything. But last night she started to talk about when they first met. Mr. Souchek had come to Houston from Iowa, 'cause it was too cold, so I guess he liked the "heat" in Houston much better. He was looking for a place to stay and Sister Alice, who was 16 years old, met him at the door. She said that she ran back to where her mother was and said, "Mama, there is a man at the door who is the bestlooking man I've ever seen." He rented a room and taught at Kincaid. Alice later married this good-looking man.

gister Alice and Brother Bill Souchek The Czech class of the lodge, headed by the inexhaustible energy of Mrs. Prasek, had to be a success. You never can imagine all the many fancy foods that filled the long table. Bill led us in prayer, returning thanks for our many blessings and for the delicious food brought by those in attendance. Also, Mrs. Prasek had a beautiful cake baked and her sister, Louise Fawcet, brought some gorgeous hibiscus from her home.

Mr. Bill said you have to mention Louis Muniza whose always available to get things like this off the ground.

Brother Bill's education was from Iowa College and he taught for 20 years at Kincaid. He also taught night classes.

One day, he told Alice, "I'm going to retire." Of course, she knew that was impossible, and she was right. He's teaching night classes in Czech and he told me last night that he will begin yet another class in September—his 24th.

The Soucheks have one daughter, Julie, who received her PhD from Rice University.

Congratulations, we wish you fine people the best.

Homecoming and Splash Day turned out to be a wonderful day on Sunday, June 6, 1993. Everyone had a good time.

Our swimming pool was the busiest place. It was so amusing to see all of those sweet little boys and girls bobbing up and down in the water. We seem to have a very good pool manager and also some fine life guards. I hope that you parents will bring your children to enjoy the water as they will be safe.

The noon barbecue meal was catered

by Johnnie Pierce and was served from 11 a.m. until ? We had the lodge orchestra and our choral group entertain us during the noon hour. Helen Hegwood had the spinning wheel until 2 p.m., then bingo took over until 4 p.m. Then it was Helen again until the dance started. The band played until 9 p.m. We had a good crowd and a lot of activity going on.

I have to "brag" a little about Lillie and her Cake Booth. Our ladies brought some delicious cakes, pies, kolaches and cookies, and we thank them most graciously for their donations. I wish whoever brought that poppyseed layer cake,would give me the recipe.

We saw so many of our people who belong to Lodge 88 and don't attend very many functions—but what a joy to see them once again.

Our next big affair will be Czech Day in October of '93.

88, Houston Birthday Club Report Lodge

On June 10, 1993, the Birthday Club Sisters assembled at Lodge 88 for their monthly meeting. President Lowrina Lindemann called the meeting to order at 11:15 a.m. with the roll call. Secretary Rita Alexander read the May minutes which were approved as read.

The financial report was given by Lillie Spies. Lillie Spies was on "Cloud Nine" as her daughter Aggie and husband Joe have moved to the states from London after five years with Shell. After three weeks wait here, they'll go to California to live. Their furniture is out on the water some place, so they'll visit here for a while before they move to their new place in Northern California, above. San Francisco.

The lunch was very good and was prepared by Inez Jeanes, who cooked for Edna Froehlich, Betty Kulhanek, Bessie Dewer, and Adele Kite, who cooked for Mary Kosut.

Lillie Spies also thanked the ladies who helped her in the Pastry Booth. She named some of them: Ann and Tootsie Lacina, Rita Alexander, Evelyn Mikolas, and Edna Froehlich.

Mary Kosut gave the Sunshine Report. She mailed cards to the sick and to the Birthday Club members.

Frank Tilich is in the hospital taking tests. Lad Bily, husband of Tillie Bily, is also in the hospital with pneumonia. Ida Lero, who makes pillows for us all of the time, broke her arm in several places.

She is at home, but has to go through a siege of therapy for some time.

Josephine Pumila was at the function on Sunday and we were so glad to see her.

She is a lovely little lady.

We decided to go out and eat at Ryan's Steak House in August since it's such a hot month. Everyone agreed.

Our hostesses in July are: Julie Kinnimon, Delores Condon, Margie Anders

and Betty Kuhanek. Rita Alexander will furnish two cakes and four gifts for Betty.

A motion was made by Mary Kosut and seconded by Evelyn Mikolas to always notify our members when someone is ill or has a death in the family.

Helen Hegwood thanked everyone who gave to the spinning wheel. It was a tremendous success.

The Calcutta game was won by Edna Froehlilch and Rosalee Kostom. Our birthday girls in June were Alma McNaspy and Inez Jeanes.

92, Fort Worth Reports on Member and Lodge Activities

Dear Members and Friends, I suppose that all of us missed the Vestnik when it was time for the editor to have his vacation. For a while, I thought the mail man forgot us, but that just goes to show that the Vestnik is always welcome each week. The past few weeks at our lodge have been sad as we have had two members pass away.

Sister Millie Miller, a long-time member must have fell and cut her head and got into bed and bled to death. She did live alone, so nobody knows for sure what actually happened. She has a son, Bennie Miller, stepsons, Edward Miller and Robert Miller, and a sister, Lillian Salach, two grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In a case like this, it's sad to live alone because you never know what could happen.

Sister Miller attended our Heritage Day last year and did enjoy the day meeting longtime friends. Our beloved Sister Annie (Bennie) Bartek also passed away after several months in a nursing care center. She also lived alone until she could not take care of herself. Her husband, Brother Joe Bartek, passed away a few years ago. Both of them were very active in the SPJST and in our lodge.

Sister Bartek was happy and had a clear mind until a few days before she passed away. Evelyn Spacek and Rose Jaworski were like daughters to her, helping her all of the time. Both Sister Miller and Sister Bartek will be greatly missed as will our other members who have passed away. May they rest in peace. We thank them for making the SPJST what it is today. Brother Sid Pokladnik gave the eulogy at Sister Bartek's rosary and Monsignor William Botik had the funeral mass.

Our meeting on June 13 was very nice and several items were talked about. The painter will begin on June 14 so it will take five days to complete the inside of the hall. We also discussed the Heritage Day that will be on September 11, 1993.

Brother Kercho has been working with the trustees on this and it seems like things are taking shape. The bands have been hired, so be sure and remember that day. Music will be by the Vrazels Polka Band and Harold Strand. This is something that you will enjoy. There will be a full day of activities so start making plans to attend.

We did miss several members of the

Kubala family at this meeting as they were attending a family reunion at Pilot Point, Texas. I am sure that they all had a great time and were in good health.

The Youth Club, under the leadership of Gordon Hubenak, along with the assistance of his wife, Cheryl, provided an enjoyable meal after the meeting. The meal included the Hubenak's famous hamburgers, along with potato salad and other good things. The ladies always bring such tasty pastries that it is hard to pick up just one item.

Sister Vlasta Dolkos had to go to the hospital just a few days after receiving her paid-up policy but she is back at the nursing home. She was 96 and we hope that she continues to be with us for a long time.

Juanita Johnnie had a stroke and has been in the hospital but now seems to be improving. Sister Eleanor Svacek had surgery and was also in the hospital for a short time. Charlie Botik also had problems but is now doing better. We hope that all that have been sick or had surgery are feeling much better.

Derek McBain, grandson of Louis Kubala graduated from high school as did Joshua Kratky, son of Jodie Kratky, who graduated from Calico High School in California.

Congratulations to our member, John Durham,. son of Dick and Martha Durham, who married Danielle Forester on May 20th.

Celebrating anniversaries in June are: Kenneth and Mary Ann Krivanek (27 years) and Carl and Christine Zich (53 years).

We hope that all of you fathers had a nice day on June 20th.

Dear Members, Please try to attend a lodge meeting and help support your officers who are trying to build a viable group to carry out benevolent projects, check on the health and welfare of members and supply input to the main lodge.

We meet the first Thursday of each month at the new VFW Building, Post 4002, located at 401 Ambassador Row in Longview.

We held our regular monthly meeting on May 26th at 7:30 p.m. Brother Alvin Sefcik, second vice president, opened the meeting in the Czech and English languages, followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silent prayer was also observed deceased members of the lodge. Brother Sefcik then turned the meeting over to President Sister Tennie Walla.

President Walla called on the lodge secretary for the roll call of officers. All were present except Brother Robert Mayfield. This was followed by the reading of the minutes of the previous month's meeting and the minutes of the Executive Board meeting. Correspondence was also read and action taken.

All committee reports were delivered.

The deaths of two members, Sister Francis Kaluza and Brother Edwin Trcalek, were also reported. The lodge extends sympathy to the families of our two lodge members. May they rest in eternal peace.

After all of the old and new business was acted on, President Walla called James Pruitt, one of the lodge's youth club members, and a recent high school graduate, to come forward. She presented him with a money gift from the lodge for his graduation and for being an outstanding Youth Club member. She also presented him with another money gift that members of the lodge had donated.

She wished him lots of good luck with his college education and said that she was looking forward to seeing him as one of our future lodge officers.

President Walla then asked Sister Dottie Watkins, youth leader, to read the names of the newly elected Youth Club officers.

After she finished reading the names of the youth officers, she asked Brother Alvin Sefcik, second vice president, to install them.

President Walla noted that our next meeting will be June 23rd at 6:30 p.m.

This will include a covered dish supper.

The lodge will furnish the meat and members are asked to bring their covered dishes, salads, desserts and pastries.

177, Academy Reports on June Meeting

Dear Members, President Otis Beck called the June 9th meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited the by the members and they remained standing in memory of our departed member, Ramona McHargue. All officers were present except Vice President Bobby Fritz and Fraternal Activities Coordinator J.C. Johnson.

We had two visitors at the meeting: Rusty Deaver and his son, Brandon.

Brandon thanked SPJST Lodge No. 177 members for purchasing his lamb at the Youth Fair in Belton and then he presented our lodge with a photo plaque.

Secretary Kathy Fritz read the minutes of the last meeting and they were approved as read. All committee reports were also read and approved. A thank you card was read from the McHargue family. John Otis Beck was announced as a new member and Rosie Craft was transferred to our lodge. Members voted to accept these new members. Welcome to both of you.

Libbie Bartek reported that a sympathy card was mailed to the family of Ramona McHargue and that a "Thinking of You" card was sent to Dorothy Massey.

Martha Garcia, Barbara Wright and Janet Lyons were appointed as the audit committee.

Door prizes were awarded to Irene Johnson, Otis Beck and Ray Ybarra.

189, Bryan Reports on June Meeting

President Ernest Wentrcek called the meeting to order on Sunday, June 13, 1993 at 2:15 After greeting our special guest, State Field Manager Gene McBride, the Pledge of Allegiance was recited, followed by the roll call of officers.

Financial Secretary Jaime Wentrcek read the minutes of the previous meeting and the financial report. Both were approved as read.

We were pleased to announce our new member, Inora Herman.

Discussion of the Supreme Lodge's Recognition and Incentive program followed. President Wentrcek announced that Lodge 189 was sponsoring Bryan's Summer Track Program. It was also

announced that member, Judge Tom McDonald, had invited all members to attend the patriotic Fourth of July celebration at Heritage park in Bryan. Also, several members made plans to visit a nursing home the following week. It was mentioned that member Kristy Wentrcek had previously delivered magazines to a local nursing home and that all members were encouraged to visit a nursing home of their choice at their convenience.

Member Jean Kotrla asked about the standing of David Chroust teaching a Czech language class. President Wentrcek said that David had left the country to work at A&M Japan, but that when he returned, he was hoping to organize a class. Jean also mentioned that she was leaving for the Czech Republic on June 25th to teach. We are very proud of Jean!

Nina Quitta reported that get well cards had been sent to Pamela Richardson, Agnes Young, and Mary Novosad.

Another card was signed by all members present to send to Mary Novosad. She had by-pass surgery and our prayers are with her.

Discussion of our annual Christmas party was our next order of business.

Different restaurants and catering services were mentioned. Final plans would be made at our September meeting.

State Field Manager Gene McBride brought best wishes from the Supreme Lodge. He asked for support from the membership to help the Lodge Recognition and Incentive Program work.

Mr. McBride also gave Lodge 189 members a status report of certificates.

He said that our lodge had an excellent report because we were maintaining a consistent level of certificates for the past five years.

Ernest Wentrcek and Cliff Junek were presented Certificates of Achievement for advanced insurance training for completing the Quick-Start II program.

Larry Wentrcek received 25 lottery tickets for selling the most insurance policies for the month of May in District One. Kristy Wentrcek adjourned the meeting by presenting a birthday cake to Billie Wentrcek. All members present were invited to join in the refreshments.

Our next quarterly meeting will be held on Sunday, September 12, at 2 p.m. at the home of Al and Nina Quitta.

200, Bruceville-Eddy Reports on Lodge Activities Lodge

SPJST Lodge 200's May meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The first order of business was to vote and accept four new members. They were: Danford J. Minton, Pearl N. Minton, Jeffery Louis Kristynik, and Linda Annette Kristynik. Lodge 200 would like to express its WELCOME and hope that each of you become involved in our fraternal activities and make the monthly meetings at the Eddy City Hall every first Wednesday of the month at 6:30 p.m.

President Bob Miracle then reported that Mark Gatewood has submitted his resignation as vice president of Lodge 200. It was accepted by the lodge and

Taylor Brethren ChurchChristian Sisters Entertain Rest Home No. 1 Residents On the first Tuesday evening of every month, the Christian Sisters of the Taylor Brethren Church provide a devotional and sing hymns in Czech and English for the residents of S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 1 in Taylor.

This ladies organization was started in Taylor in 1910 with 26 members.

Officers are President Marie Ann Ripple, Vice President Catherine Holubec, Secretary Anne Mekevec, Financial Secretary Margaret Ponton, and Trea-

surer Ruth Wuensche. Our study leaders are Leona Stalmach and Anna Kovar. Pianist is Mrs. Marcel (Becky) Ruzicka and delivering the devotion each month is Rev. James Hejl.

Mrs. Pauline Kovar, activity director, would like to thank this group for many faithful years of devotion to our rest home.

Correspondence was read by Evelyn Trojacek, including a "Thank You" card from Angelo Athas and family for donations in memory of Stacy Athas.

A letter of thanks from Marilyn Fullbright and Pat Wilson for letting them celebrate Grandmother Helen Vrla's 90th birthday was also received.

There was also a letter asking if we would like to have the "Circle of Czech Women" inscribed on the wall at Ellis Island. Vicki Kohn is to check on this and report at the next meeting.

Liddie Pavelka, our Sunshine Committee lady, had the members sign a "Thinking of You" card to send to Wanda Petr and Nita Houzvicka.

Congratulations to David Alan Parma, son of Tommy and Judy Parma and grandson of Helen Parma, who graduated for Southwestern Medical School, and to Phillip Podhrasky, grandson of Bertha and Julius, who graduated from high school.

21 Taylor Brethren Church Christian Sisters perform Czech and English songs the first Tuesday of every month at S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 1. we will will elect a new vice president at the June meeting.

A short report was given on the fish fry which was a success and netted about $360 for the scholarship fund. It was voted on to give a scholarship grant this year to the family member of a lodge member. Applications will be sent in the mail to each family for college or technical school students. It was then reported that Ginger Roming of Eddy and a member of Lodge 200 was one of the SPJST Supreme Lodge scholarship recipients.

"Congratulations" to Ginger from Lodge 200. "Terrific."

Gene McBride and Bob Miracle then reported that they were sponsoring a trophy in the Eddy Fire Department Barbeque Cookoff in the name of Lodge 200. THANKS, Gene and Bob! Gene then reported that Universal Life was at 7 percent; Annuity I is at 6.25 percent and Annuity II is at 5.8 percent. The meeting was then closed.

The June meeting for Lodge 200 was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance.

The first order of business was to elect four new members. They were Jeremy John Girard, Justin Lee Girard, Linda Kay Girard and Tammy Rebecca Yakesch. Lodge 200 also WELCOMES each of you and hopes that each of you get active in the activities of Lodge 200.

The next order of business was to elect a new vice president and he is Harvey LaFlamme. CONGRATULATIONS, Harvey. We know that you will do an outstanding job.

Earl and Mary Soudelier then reported on the May 25th workshop at the SPJST Home Office. We had a welcome

by Howard Leshikar and then he turned the meeting over to Frank Klinkovsky who expressed the importance of fraternalism and the importance of filing all of the reports into the Supreme Lodge on time. He also expressed the importance of the lodges filing their form 990 with the IRS and sending the Supreme Lodge a copy. the night was enjoyable and the food was good.

The lodge then discussed the scholarship grant to be given by the lodge and decided to put off any decisions until the next meeting because of the absence of the lodge secretary.

Gene and Bob reported on an invitation by Lodge 66, Waco, to come to Waco and have a Family Fun Day with them on July 11, 1993. They have challenged us to horseshoe pitching, washer pitching and dominoes. The lodge has accepted the invitation and if anyone is interested in joining us in Waco, you need to bring a sack lunch for each member of your family. Lodge 66 will furnish the drinks. It sounds like this will be a fun day. Contact Gene McBride for more information.

On July 24th, Bob Miracle and Gene McBride will be helping Lodge 47, Seaton, with a Barbeque Cookoff. They have agreed to coordinate the event.

This is a good example of fraternalism and what SPJST is about and that is "people helping people."

The meeting was then closed with a report from Gene McBride on interest remaining the same on annuities and universal life.

Don't forget the Fourth of July Picnic at Sokol. Those who volunteered to serve should be there at 10 a.m. We are asked to bring either a vegetable, salad or dessert.

We bought chances for a drawing of the soccer ball Christmas ornament presented by the soccer team from Brno.

June birthdays were announced by Mary Sebestik. Happy Birthday was sung to June birthday celebrants, namely, Lillie Drzewicki, Betty Jean Grier, and Diana Oates.

In observance of Father's Day, we let the men in line first. (They are our helpers so we have to treat them nice.)

Christi Circle of Women Report on June Meeting

Our meeting was called to order President Bertha Podhrasky. We recited the Pledge of Allegiance and remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of Randy Zabonik, grandson of Rose Urban and Antonie Shiller, sisterin-law of Evelyn Salac.

Bertha welcomed 35 members, 11 male guests and one visitor, Latasha Tye, granddaughter of Dorothy Reznik. It was good to see some of the members who have not attended for a while.

Twenty members and two guests wee present at the June 3 meeting of the Corpus Christi Circle of Women. Rose Huff was ill, but is much better now, and the others were out of town or had other obligations. We hope to see them all at our July 1 meeting.

To commemorate Flag Day, Betty Jurica read "Just a Piece of Cloth." It was quite impressive. She also announced a new member, Glenda Elzner, who joined after our last meeting.

Welcome to our Krouzek, Glenda.

The ladies brought a lot of clothing to be donated to the Women's Shelter. Our little guest, Hollie Weise, the six-year-old granddaughter of Norma Baker, helped us all by holding the door open and even helped carry in some of the packages.

Bring her again, Norma.

Our trip to Progresso was scheduled for June 9. We had planned to make it in May—before the hot weather set in—but Glenda Elzner's bout with pneumonia postponed all plans. Little Jerry Elzner spent over a week with his grandparents while his mother was in the hospital. I'm glad to report that she is well on the way

to complete recovery. Instead of driving to Mexico, Millie and Jerry were babysitting—something they love doing.

Several of our door prizes this month were home grown vegetables. Kathy Marek brought two bags of tomatoes, squash and okra, won by Leona Matula and Millie Elzner. Betty Jurica brought fresh sweet corn, won by Anita Regmund, who later told me that it was absolutely delicious. Anita donated two one-pound packages of trout she had harvested in the Gulf, which were won by Helen Pavelka and Lil Hruska. Carrie Veselka brought two hanging baskets with airplane plants won by Georgia

Kubala and Albertina Oakes. Hollie Weise won the prize she had been eyeing all morning—a clever gift made by Georgia Kubala. It was an inverted baby chick feeder, filled with candy and decorated with ribbons and flowers. We always enjoy our drawings for prizes.

Happy birthday was sung to Ella Simcik, but her twin, Della Elzner was absent—so we extend happy birthday wishes to her, also.

After a delicious luncheon of stew, prepared by Ella Simcik and Albertina Oakes, we played several games of bingo and enjoyed visiting.

Thanks go to Jerry Elzner for his help

in putting away the tables and chairs after our meetings. We could use more guests like Jerry and Hollie.

Family Reunion As you may already know, a reunion of the descendants of John and Anna Patak is being planned for this summer.

The reunion will be on June 26, 1993 at the KJT Hall in Ennis, Texas. The afternoon and evening will consist of a social from 3 to 5. A barbecue dinner will be served at 5 p.m. There will also be a dance featuring the Sulak Brothers Band.

Family Reunion Descendants of Joseph Orsak and Razina (Krupala) Orsak will gather for their seventh reunion on Saturday, July 10, 1993 at the Portwood Pavilion in Seymour, Texas. Also invited are acquaintances and family friends.

Youth Section Letters Lodge 9, Sr ook Youth Club Celebrates Snookfest Dear Readers, On June 5, 1993, we had our annual Snookfest, Our youth club entered a float. Our float was called "Piglets on Parade," so we dressed as pigs. We also won first place for our entry. Thanks to Mrs. Junek and Mrs. Macik for all they did to make our float look beautiful. We also had a water booth which was very popular because it was hot.

Dear Readers, The June 13, 1993 meeting of the Lodge No. 24 Youth Club was called to order at 2 p.m by Presiden't Jeffrey Ashcraft.

Adam Bruggman led the Pledge of Allegiance and members remained standing r a moment of silent prayer. The register was read. There were 15 members present and nine adults. Guests introduced were Jimmy Baker, Fawn Spanhel, Randolph Marek, Nancy Posvar, Mary Eixman, Rita Woolsey, Jane Bruggman, Vlasta MArek, and Carl Macek.

The minutes were read and approved.

Lisa Spanhel gave the treasurer's report.

Dear Readers, The June 8th meeting of the Lodge No. 47 Youth Club was called to order by President James Kortis. Jennifer Pechal led us in the Pledge of Allegiance and club motto. The register was read. There were 20 members and three adults present. Guests introduced were Rachel Baca and Frank Klinkovsky.

Mr. Klinkovsky, State FAC, installed the new officer for the 1993-1994 year.

The new officers are: President—James Kortis Vice President—E.J. Pechal Secretary—Lori Greger Treasurer—Melanie Koslovsky Reporter—Kristin Klecka Sgt. at Arms—John Hoelscher Flag Bearers—Rebecca Greger, Sarah Hejl and Clifton Coufal.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. Melanie gave the treasurer's report and balance.

The Youth Club participated in the annual Mother Lodge picnic held on June 6th. The youth had several booths.

Among them were the ring toss, fish pond and dunking booth. It was a lot of fun!

Our youth leader, Judy Pechal, reported on several upcoming events, including YAD and camp. Our forms for each need to be sent in on due dates.

Door prizes were won by Victoria Smith and James Kortis. Birthdays in the month of June were celebrated by Daniel Gibson, Sharon Hejl, and Tammy Pechal.

The next meeting will be on July 6th at 7:30 p.m. Our Youth Club meeting was adjourned at 8:55 p.m.
