Lodge 29, Taylor celebrates long-running tradition

Pageantry Accompanies May Fetes The old custom of ushering in the spring season lives on. At least three SPJST lodges—Lodge 29, Taylor, Lodge 18, Elgin, and Lodge 187, Round Rock have held or will be holding May Fete celebrations this month. The Taylor celebration, which dates back to 1939, is the longest-running of the three and typically comes first in the procession.

Lodge 29 held its annual May Fete on Sunday, May 2 at the lodge hall in Taylor.

In addition to the May Fete pageant, which was highlighted by the crowning of the queens, the day featured a barbecue dinner, horseshoe tournament, silent auction, cake walk and an evening dance with music by the band, Sterling Country Nikki Rieger, daughter of Patti and Ronnie Rieger of Beyersville, received the title of 1993 May Queen. Her king was Jonathan Downs, son of Jim and Joyce Downs of Taylor.

Tammy Machu, daughter of Elaine and Albin Machu of Taylor, received the title of 1993 Taylor SPJST Queen. Her king was Trey Janak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Janak, Jr. of Taylor.

The 1993 May Princess to Nikki Rieger was Jenny Havalda, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Havalda. Her prince was Cory Batson, son of Mike and Jan

As for future plans, Sheila says that she is still undecided.

Sandra is a member of Lodge No. 88, Houston and a graduate of the University of St. Thomas. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Bilnoski and grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bilnoski (deceased) and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Magee (deceased).

Sandra, who majored in International Studies, plans to earn her master's degree, then perhaps teach at the college level.

Brad is a member of Lodge No. 40, El Campo-Hilije and a graduate of El Campo High School. His parents are Ardis and James Bacak and grandmother is Mrs. Charlie Sbrusch, Jr. Brad is planning to attend Wharton County Junior College in Wharton where he will be majoring in business.

Darren is a member of Lodge No. 15, Buckholts and a graduate of Buckholts High School. His parents are Anton and Helen Gaas and grandparents are Mary Gaas and Edward Shenkir (deceased) and Nora Kachtik Shenkir (deceased).

Darren is planning to attend Tarletun State University in Stephenville where he will major in pre-med.

Looking at the cover of this week's Vestnik, you'll see four of our Society's promising young members who will be graduating this spring. Response to the solicitation for "Spring Graduate" announcements was outstanding. The Vestnik will be introducing you to several of these individuals each week-as space permits-until they have all been presented. Upcoming issues will also picture recipients of this year's SPJST scholarships.

If you know any of these young people, congratulate them on their achievements and encourage them to continue reaching for new and higher goals. To those of you who are graduating, take with you the knowledge that you are valued members of our fraternal order. By staying involved-or by getting involved, you can help to shape the future of your Society.

These are the features we must capitalize on to increase sales. *** TAES Offers Estate Planning

Many of our longtime SPJST members have worked hard and accumulated well during the course of their lifetimes. Some, no doubt, maybe concerned about the high taxes that may erode their estates after they are gone.

Depending on the size of your holdings, estate tax rates can be up to 55 percent-high enough to gobble a majority of what you have earned. In response to this concern, the Texas Agricultural Extension Service (TAES)is sponsoring three, two-day Estate Planning Seminars at the following locations: Portland: May 13-14, 1993 Lubbock May 20-21, 1993 San Antonio: May 24-25, 1993 Officially, the TAES is promoting the meetings as an estate planning seminars for farmers and ranchers. However, after checking with the Agricultural Economics Department at Texas A&M University, I was informed that much of the information presented would be applicable to city dwellers as well.

According to Dr. Wayne A. Hayenga of Texas A&M, who will be leading the seminars, the goal is to give the participants knowledge sufficient to make an informed choice as to the best alternative for their family and financial situation.

Some of the areas that will be covered include: wills, living trusts, estate tax deferrals, gifts, property titles, oil and gas interests and the role of life insurance in estate planning.

Registration fee for the classes is $75 per person and includes all seminar materials, refreshments and lunches for both days. Good Ideas That Work

I don't know who to give credit to for originating the idea, but it's a good oneand every time I see it, I want to comment on it. Most recently, I saw it put to practice again at the District Three Spring Meeting held April 25 at Lodge 84, Dallas. I am referring to the "food drive" District Three members once again held in conjunction with their noon luncheon.

The idea is simple. You bring two canned or boxed food items with you when you come to the meeting. This entitles you to a discount on your meal ticket. In the meantime, the food items stack up. Even before the meeting gets started, you've performed a valuable community service by accumulating a nice donation for an area food bank.

What's more, it's a donation that, by its very nature, will be used as it was intended by the giver-to put food into the hands and mouths of those who need it.

Many of our lodges and districts regularly conduct such food drives. It's a good idea and it works.

Another good idea that works is your SPJST fraternal insurance certificate.

Membership in the SPJST is more than a membership in a social or community service organization. When a member has adequate coverage, the membership certificate ensures that the surviving family members will be provided for in the event of death.

Proclamation Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors have organized under the banner of National Association of Fraternal Insurance Counsellors; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors are dedicated to support and maintain the principle of Legal Reserve Fraternal Life Insurance and to promote the adoption and application of high standards of ethical conduct in the profession of Fraternal Life Underwriting and the services of Fraternal Life Insurance; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors strive to increase the knowledge of Fraternal Field Representatives concerning Legal Reserve Fraternal Life Insurance, to develop more successful sales methods and to render adequate services to Fraternal Members; and Whereas, Fraternal Insurance Counsellors afford the opportunity of exchange of ideas among leading Fraternal Field Representatives; and

SPJST Salutes 100 Percent Families With seven districts and 118 active lodges, the SPJST depends heavily on family participation to prosper and maintain a spirit of fellowship. In appreciation of that support, the Supreme Lodge introduced its "100 Percent SPJST Family" program in September. Through letters to local lodges and articles in the Vestnik, 100 percent families were encouraged to report their 100 percent families to the SPJST Supreme Lodge. To date, that response has been great.

The following is the fourteenth listing of 100 Percent SPJST families who have registered their family and will be receiving a certificate acknowledging their contribution to the Society. More names will appear in upcoming issues of the Vestnik.

Letters from the Lodges Lodge 18, Elgin Reports on April Lodge Meeting Dear Members, The regular monthly meeting of Lodge No. 18, Elgin was called to order by President Dale Kessel on Tuesday, April 20, 1993 at 7:30 p.m. There were 38 in attendance. Lydia Freudenberg was the lucky person to win the door prize.

The meeting was opened by everyone reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. This was followed by a word of prayer led by Dale Kessel. Let us al remember our dear Brother Leslie Gustafson in our prayers.

He is very ill and is in the Round Rock Hospital at the present time.

Reports were heard from the chairpersons of the various committees. Building and Grounds Chairperson Bo Brian especially wanted to thank Oscar Helgren for all that he did in helping to take care of the grounds.

Ruby Bowen, our youth leader, discussed the May Fete, which will be held on Sunday, May 23, at 3 p.m. A dance will follow from 5 to 9 p.m. Music will be provided by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six from Pflugerville.

There was some discussion of the Fraternal Fest in District Two and the various award that would be attainable through the Incentive Program.

President Dale Kessel reported that a meeting would be held on April 21 in response to reactivating our Youth Club and get them more involved in activities of our Mother Lodge.

There was much discussion among the group regarding the difficulty that the lodge encounters with meeting certain obligations. As a result of this discussion, it was decided that the admission price for a regular (one band) dance will be $5 per person and for a battle dance (two bands), the admission will be $6 per person.

These prices will become effective on July 1, 1993.

Everyone also praised and thanked President Dale Kessel and his working crew for the great job they do in the kitchen. They make the best hamburgers you ever tasted.

As we were about to adjourn, President Dale Kessel's family members surprised him with a birthday party. Don't ask which birthday, but he is now "Over the Hill." Thanks from all of us. We thoroughly enjoyed the party. The food was great and everyone enjoyed the fellowship. President Kessel again thanked everyone for their attendance and for their support.

So, if you want to spend an enjoyable Sunday afternoon, come to our SPJST hall in Elgin and enjoy good music, dancing and fellowship. There is also some country and western music on Saturday nights for those that enjoy country-western music.

Lodge 80, Holland Reports on May Meeting

Lodge No. 47, Seaton will again hold a Progressive "42" tournament on Friday, May 21 at 7 p.m. Hamburgers and french fries will be sold beginning at 6:30 p.m. So, come hungry and enjoy the fellowship before playing begins.

Some like the progressive play better because you don't pick partners until you get there.

Here's hoping that many will come out to enjoy a night out playing their favorite game. See you then.

Dear Members and Friends, The regular monthly meeting of Lodge No. 80, Holland, was held Sunday, May 2, at 2 p.m. After the opening exercises, Secretary-Treasurer Glenn Latham read the minutes from the previous meeting. They were approved as read. roll call of officers showed Vice President G. L. Brisbin absent.

The kitchen, bar and bingo reports were given and all were doing fine. A thank-you note from the Gene Liles family was also rad.

New members named included J. Wayne Habel, Linda Habel, M. Kevin Coats, Carolyn Coats, Russell Pajestka, Deanna Rohlack, Paul Spinn, and Adam Spinn.

President Harold Rohde thanked Glen Latham and G. L. Brisbin and other members who helped in overseeing the lattice work in the hall and the added construction of the bar and barbecue pit.

President Rohde and Brother Glen brought up the advantages of having an answering machine on the phone. After some discussion, Robert Marwitz made a motion to purchase one, seconded by Florine Rohde. Motion carried.

President Rohde announced that on Wednesday, May 12, 1993, the lodge will host the 1993 graduating class of Holland High School for a noon meal.

66, Waco Meeting Scheduled May 16 Lodge

Dear Members, Lodge 66 will meet on Sunday, May 16th. The adults will meet at 2:30 p.m. and the youth will meet at 2 p.m.

SPJST Brings Good Music and Goodwill to Houston International Festival

Commencement exercises for the class will be held at the lodge on May 28.

Members are asked to be at the lodge on May 15, by 8 a.m. to set up for the picnic on the next day. We will set up the hall, peel potatoes, and wrap up any other little detail that needs working on at the time.

May 16 is our annual lodge picnic.

We invite everyone to come out and enjoy fun for the whole family. We will have barbecue from the pit to go beginning at 10 a.m. and lunch plates starting at 10:30 a.m. There will be games and an auction in the afternoon and a free dance in the evening with music by Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six. Hope to see you all for a fun time.

The SPJST Lodge No. 88, Houston Concert Orchestra performed some of the favorite Czech polkas and waltzes on April 25th at the International Festival in Houston, Texas. Th e two week festival brings a wide assortment talented performers, art, music and exotic international foods to downtown Houston. This year's festival included 23 different exhibits spread over a 16-block area of the city, near City Hall.—Item submitted by James E. Rohde

84, Dallas Extends Thanks for Donations

Dear Members , The Special Committee at Lodge 84 in Dallas wishes to thank our members and friends for the generous donations of baking items for the April Bake Sale that we had. It was all used and appreciated.

First, the officers and membership wish to thank Bessie and Emil Petr for the use of their catering facility to do all of this baking. Brother Petr helped us manage all three ovens at one time.

Many thanks to all of the helpers,—and there were many during the two days.

We baked about 164 dozen kolaches and approximately 30 tea rings. It took about 160 man-hours and I didn't even count the time spent on buying supplies.

142, Houston Reports on May Lodge Meeting Lodge

Our monthly meeting was called to order at 2 p.m. on Sunday, May 2, 1993

by President Keith Kieschnick. We had 45 members and three visitors who signed the register book. The roll call of officers showed all were present except for Youth Leader Elizabeth Hermis. All stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Secretary Alice Jochen read the minutes from the previdus month's meeting. They stood approved, as corrections.

The financial secretary-treasurer's report was read by Sister Rosie Tumis.

The board of trustees and bar report were read by Board Chairman Robert Kieschnick.

The Youth Club had no report at this meeting.

The Sick Committee reported that Daniel Tumis had a fractured finger. It was also reported that Mrs. Emilie Mynar was sick in the hospital. We hope that all of our members who were ill are much better at this time.

We welcomed the following visitors: Jo Ann Buri, Jo Buri, Joe Gambil. We also welcomed member Charles Petrozelka, who hadn't been with us for some time. We welcome you all.

President Keith Kieschnick and Charlie Petrozelka discussed our lodge having a speaker on fire safety and police protection safety at a later date. We are all looking forward to having a speaker at a future meeting—the date will be announced later. When we do have a guest speaker, every member is encouraged to bring a friend with them to the meeting. We would rather have 200 members than 100 members all come to our meetings.

Again, a reminder to everyone to make plans to attend our "free member barbecue" on May 15. Plates will be served from 2 to 5 p.m. and also be for sale to visitors. Bring your friends and family.

The occasion is in commemoration of the 20th anniversary of the dedication of the Lodge 142 lodge building. At 5 p.m., there will be a ceremony, recognizing the 1973 officers, board members or their spouses. And, beginning at 5:30, live musical entertainment will be provided.

Make plans to bring your friends and family.

All youth members and former youth members, along with all officers and board members, of our lodge are invited and urged to our 20-year celebration.

Come one, come all, and help Lodge No. 142 celebrate.. We hope to see you all there.

On Friday, April 30, in the afternoon, the Birthday Party was held which included Louis Vacek entertaining with the piano and singing "Happy Birthday."

A Flower and Gift Shop provided the corsages and boutineers. The United Methodist Women provided the cakes.

Ida Gasch and Melva Hastings helped serve the cake, ice cream, punch and coffee to all.

"Happy Birthdays" for the month of April are extended to these residents: Jean Harris, Emil Sodolak and Julia Murrile. Staff members having birthdays in April were: Donna Holik, Dorothy Lipinski, Catherine Stearns, Cora Jones, Georgia Armstead, and Sandra Harris.

Exports to Czechoslovakia Increase Dramatically U.S.

For the first 10 months of 1992, U.S. exports to Czechoslovakia grew an impressive 252.5 percent over the same period in 1991, totaling $340.1 million.

This follows U.S. export growth of 35.6 percent in 1991 to Czechoslovakia (the fist full year of most favored nation trade), reaching $123.1 million.

Data on trade with the individual republics is not yet available. American goods are generally well-regarded and in strong demand.

Direct investment by U.S. companies in Czechoslovakia totaled some $1.5 billion in committed capital at the end of 1992. The Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC), which staged an investment mission to Czechoslovakia in late 1991, described the country as "replete with opportunities for American businesses to develop sound, productive, and profitable investments." The economic reform program initiated by the Czechoslovak federal government in 1990 and 1991 contained a series of measures designed to attract foreign investment. Opportunities for foreign investors multiplied as the Czechoslovak Government began to privatize large, state-owned enterprises in a program unmatched for its scope in Central and Eastern Europe. While the two new republics may in the future take somewhat different approaches to foreign investment and privatization, both have indicated their continued interest in crating a favorable investment climate.

Fund Provides Financing Options With Czech and Slovak Companies Enterprise

As of September 30, 1992, the Czech and Slovak American Enterprise Fund (CSAEF) completed its first full year of operations. CSAEF was formed pursuant to the Support for East European Democracy Act (SEED) of 1989. The Fund invests both equity and debt in small and medium-sized private businesses in both the Czech and Slovak Republics.

The fund can best help a U.S. company seeking to do business in the Czech and Slovak Republics in three ways: 1. It can invest in small and mediumsized Czech or Slovak businesses that buy from or sell to U.S. companies.

2. The Fund can invest in the creation of a joint venture between a U.S. company and a Czech or Slovak company.

3. It can introduce, in select instances, a U.S. business to Czech and Slovak companies, particularly where the Fund has already made an investment. At present, the Fund is looking for join ventures with Czech/Slovak companies in the following areas: electrostatic air filters, dental equipment, machine tools and thermoplastics.

Fund investments to date have been divided almost evenly between the two republics, and the fund maintains offices in both Prague and Bratislava.

The fund receives its monies from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Subject to further appropriations, the total grant to the fund from USAID will be at least $60 million,plus $5 million for technical cooperation.

n Memoriam Expression of Sympathy The Resolution Committee of Danbury Lodge No. 139, on behalf of the entire membership, wishes to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Liddie Barchak Pekar, who passed way Wednesday, March 17, 1993 at the age of 79.

A long time resident of Danbury, Sister Pekar was a member of Saint Anthony's Catholic Church of Danbury. She is survived by three sons: Allen, Albert, and Tim Pekar, as well as several grandchildren.

A rosary was celebrated for Sister Pekar at the Palms Funeral Home on Friday at 7 p.m.

Funeral services were held on March 20 at 10 a.m. at Saint Anthony's Church with Father William Oliver and Deacon Gerald Peltierofficiating.

Serving as pall bearers were Bob Barchak, Ken Barcak, Leonard Brown, Bob Ferguson, Allen Pekar II, Kelly Pekar, Russell Pekar, and Vincent Pekar.

Arrangements were by Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.

of Sympathy We, the members of the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 181, Conroe, Texas, on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our deepest and sincerest sympathy to the bereaved family and friends of our dearly departed lodge sister, ANNA MAE ADAMICK KLANDER, age, 66, of Conroe, Texas, who passed away on March 9, 1993 in Herman Hospital in Houston.

Sister Klander was born in Willis, Texas on January 17, 1927 to John and Viola Adamick. On February 22, 1946, she married Raymond L. Klander, her loving husband of 46 years, at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Houston.

From this marriage they were blessed with three children and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Klander was a retired secretary and homemaker who enjoyed flower gardening.

Sister Anna Mae joined the SPJST in 1972 and was an active charter member of Lodge 181, Conroe, charted January 1977. She assumed many officer for Lodge 181 and was currently serving as financial secretary/treasurer. Since 1984, she had been a sales representative for District Five.

Mrs. Klander was an active member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Conroe, where she was also very involved in the Ladies Guild.

Survivors include her husband Raymond Klander of Conroe, a daughter and son-in-law: Betty and Edwin Winkelmann; two sons and daughtersin-law: John and Marilyn Klander and Carl and Tracy Klander; grandchildren: Daniel and Steven Winkelmann, Lisa and Johnny Klander and Jacob and Kristen Klander, all of Houston; brothers: Marlon Adamick, Phillip Adamick, Flo-

rence Adamick all of Willis, and a sister, Kathryn Thibodeaux of Alexandria, Louisiana.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m., Friday March 12, 1993 at St. Mark's Lutheran Church on Conroe with Pastor Herbert Graf officiating. The final resting place is Woodlawn Garden of Memories, Houston.

Pallbearers were: Danny Winkelmann, Edwin Winkelmann, charles Kocsis, Rick Corte, Kevin Ray and Polly Adamick.

Mrs. Klander was preceded in death by a brother, Virgil,and a sister, Leona.

Expression of Sympathy Members of Lodge No. 172, Pasadena, Texas, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of JOE MACHANN. Mr. Machann passed away on February 20, 1993 at the age of 79. Mr. Machann was a kind, tender, generous, funny and humble man. He will he missed by all.

Mr. Machann was a charter member of the Brethren Church in Pasadena, and of Lodge 172. One of seven children, he spent his boyhood days being his father's right hand man on their farm in Joe Machann Burleson County.

Later, he managed Machann's General Store in Buckholts, owned by the family. After serving in the army, he married Vlasta Ann Chaloupka and moved his school teacher bride to Pasadena and began his employment with Champion Paper Mill.

He is survived by his wife, Vlasta Machann; two daughters, Betty Yonley and husband, Bill, of Pasadena, and Donna Fowler and her husband, Joe, of Columbia, Maryland; six grandchildren: Tommy, William, Lori, and Jonathan Yonley, and Brittany and Amber Fowler; three sisters, Albina Kubin of Caldwell, Maris Zawadsky of Hearne and margaret Zawadsky of Cameron.

Long time friend and pastor Brother Henry Beseda conducted the memorial service at Pasadena Brethren Church.

The funeral was held in Caldwell Texas at New Tabor Brethren Church on February 23, 1993. Interment followed in the Old New Tabor Cemetery, part of the country that he loved best.

Youth Section Letters District Three Youth Clubs Report on Spring Meeting Dear Youth Club Members, It was nice to see all of the other youth at our District Three meeting on April 25th at Lodge No. 84, Dallas.

For those of you who didn't stick around, we had a really good time playing washers. Our winners were as follows: First Place-Michael Tierce (66) and Paxton Davies (92) Second Place-Brian Tierce (66) and Justin Engelke (66) Third Place-Jesika Tierce (66) and Nathan Tierce (66).

Congratulations to all During our meeting, we elected our District Three officers for the 1993-1994 year. They are: President-Jesika Tierce (66) Vice President-C.J. Novak (84) Secretary-Mary Beth Novak (84) Reporter-Melissa Huhenak (92) Congratulations and do a good job.

Some important dates to remember are the District Three Y.A.D. on June 27th at Lodge 66 in Elm Mott; Summer Camp, from July 12-15 at Camp Val Verde; State Y.A.D. on August 15th (royalty and Beseda performances will he on August 14th) at Lodge No. 47, Seaton.

Our District Three Fall meeting will he on October 24 at Lodge 25, Ennis, and it will he held in conjunction with our District Three Fraternal Fest.

24, Cyclone Youth Club Reports on April Meeting Lodge

Dear Readers, The April 4, 1993 meeting of the Lodge No. 24 Youth Club was called to order at 2 p.m. by President Jeffrey Ashcraft. Ryan Greger led the Pledge of Allegiance and members remained standing for a moment of silent prayer.

The register was read. There were 17 members present and five adults. Guests introduced were Shelly Gerich, Andy Baker, and Jimmy Baker. The minutes were read and approved. Jennifer Ashcraft gave the treasurer's report and the balance.

After the meeting, we had an Easter egg hunt and snacks. Also, Jennifer Ashcraft brought a craft for us to do after the meeting.

On April 19th, our Youth Club had a bake sale at the Cyclone Corral. Thanks to the families who donated desserts, and also thanks to the Mikeska family for letting us have the bake sale at the Corral. Thanks also to Penny Coots and Patsy Baker for running the bake sale. I also helped.

49, Rowena Youth Club Reports on April Meeting Lodge

Hello Members, The April 25 meeting of the Lodge 49 Youth Club was called to order by President Brad Schwertner. Brandee Havlak led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Jeff Schwertner read the minutes of the March meeting. Ten youth members were present along with two adult members.

Jeff reported on the April 3 Trash Pick Up. Youth Leader Connie Havlak gave her report. She gave three members forms to fill out for a youth leadership lab that will be held June 5-6 in La Grange. It is for 14-17 year-old members.

Our club decided to have a bake sale for a fund raiser. More will be discussed at our May meeting.

We will be having a party for Jeff Schwertner at our May meeting because he will be graduating from Ballinger High School. He won a $500 scholarship from SPJST and will be attending Tarleton State University in the fall, majoring in wildlife science. Good luck, Jeff!

We also ordered camp t-shirts and filled out our project forms. The meeting adjourned until May 16.

117, Robstown Youth Club Member Receives USAA Award

Jennifer Marek, who is president of the Lodge No. 177, Robstown Youth Club, has been named a United States Achievement Academy National Award winner. This is a position of honor that less than 10 percent of all young people can ever hope to attain, placing Jennifer among our nation's most elite youth.

Her biography and photograph will appear in an upcoming volume of the USAA yearbook. She also becomes eligible for a USAA college scholarship.

Jennifer, who is a junior at Bishop School, High attended the National Young Leaders Conference Council December 1-6 in Jennifer Marek Washington, D.C. At Bishop High School, Jennifer is involved in UIL competition in keyboarding and calculator applications, band, flag corps, interpretation, Students Against Drunk Driving, Youth Against Cancer (vice president), Business Professionals League, dram and science clubs and was also named to Who's Who Among American High School students.

Jennifer is the daughter of Bill and Kathryn Marek and her grandparents are Edwin and Betty Jurica of Corpus Christi, Texas.

March Vestnik Project and Contest Dear Leaders and Youth Club Members, March's Vestnik Project and Contest had 29 clubs and 229 youth club members participating. We really appreciate your continued support.

This month I received several contests which included the Bonus Point question.

The bonus points were for the age group 15-17 this month. Other age _groups had an opportunity to earn bonus points in previous months. I think the way the questions were presented in the Vestnik were misleading. I received many excellent answers and I regret I will be unable to give you credit for your answers, but please keep us the good work.

Na doporueeni sveho tchana si koupil Josef Mag ik v roce 1851 pozemek velhote u Liptalu (dnes Lhota u Vsetina), kde se stal ueitelem. Tento zdroj ob2ivy mu vgak nedostaeoval a dne 5. ledna 1852 po2adal okresni hejtmanstvi ve Vala gskem Mezifiei o udeleni koncese na obchod s maslem a se soli. Obecni diad ye Lhote u Liptalu k tomu vyjadfil souhlas a 24. ledna 1852 byla koncese Josefu Magikovi skuteene udelena. S Josefem Magikem 2i1 ye Lhote i Josef Jelek.

Being big didn't save the dinosaur

Apparently, some insurance companies assume bigness will be the key to their survival.

In our opinion, that's a faulty assumption.

Witness the dinosaur. Being big didn't save him. In fact, it probably hastened his demise.

For the dinosaur grew too large for his limited brain. As a result, signals took too long to get from one part of the body to

another. In the end, he simply couldn't respond quickly enough to change.

The real issue — then and now — is flexibility. Adapting to a changing, often confusing, environment.
