Lodge 29, Taylor celebrates long-running tradition
Pageantry Accompanies May Fetes The old custom of ushering in the spring season lives on. At least three SPJST lodges—Lodge 29, Taylor, Lodge 18, Elgin, and Lodge 187, Round Rock have held or will be holding May Fete celebrations this month. The Taylor celebration, which dates back to 1939, is the longest-running of the three and typically comes first in the procession. Lodge 29 held its annual May Fete on Sunday, May 2 at the lodge hall in Taylor. In addition to the May Fete pageant, which was highlighted by the crowning of the queens, the day featured a barbecue dinner, horseshoe tournament, silent auction, cake walk and an evening dance with music by the band, Sterling Country Nikki Rieger, daughter of Patti and Ronnie Rieger of Beyersville, received the title of 1993 May Queen. Her king was Jonathan Downs, son of Jim and Joyce Downs of Taylor. Tammy Machu, daughter of Elaine and Albin Machu of Taylor, received the title of 1993 Taylor SPJST Queen. Her king was Trey Janak, son of Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Janak, Jr. of Taylor. The 1993 May Princess to Nikki Rieger was Jenny Havalda, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. James Havalda. Members of the 1993 Taylor SPJST Queen's Court were: Jennifer Balusek and Stephen Dykowski; Mandy Tennill and Kris Brewer; Tara Hays and Brent Svehlak; Brandy Roznovak and Steven Kruse; Allison Vrana and Daniel Bachmeyer; Karen Miller and Ramon Santa Cruz; Christina Diaz and Paul Galvan; Amy Torres and Jonathan Gonzales; Jennifer Neitsch and Brack Farr; and Christie Schneider. Sheila is a member of Lodge No. 25, Ennis and a graduate of Ennis High School. Her parents are Victor and Linda Trojacke and her grandparents, are Milton and Nadine Martinek and Rosie Trojacek; great-grandparents are Joe and Annie Martinek. As for future plans, Sheila says that she is still undecided.
Sandra is a member of Lodge No. 88, Houston and a graduate of the University of St. Thomas. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. P. P. Bilnoski and grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bilnoski (deceased) and Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Magee (deceased). Sandra, who majored in International Studies, plans to earn her master's degree, then perhaps teach at the college level.
Brad is a member of Lodge No. 40, El Campo-Hilije and a graduate of El Campo High School. His parents are Ardis and James Bacak and grandmother is Mrs. Charlie Sbrusch, Jr. Brad is planning to attend Wharton County Junior College in Wharton where he will be majoring in business.
Darren is a member of Lodge No. 15, Buckholts and a graduate of Buckholts High School. His parents are Anton and Helen Gaas and grandparents are Mary Gaas and Edward Shenkir (deceased) and Nora Kachtik Shenkir (deceased). Darren is planning to attend Tarletun State University in Stephenville where he will major in pre-med.
