When contributions are matched by funds from the University of Texas, the Chair will be fully funded at $1 million. The announcement was made Saturday, April 24, at a Meeting of Czech Educational Foundation of Texas (CE1-`1) meeting held at the SPJST Home Office in Temple, Texas. Lodge 24, Cyclone helps celebrate the season

Good times in store at lodge special events It's the season for fun, food and good times. Most any weekend between April and September, there's a good chance that somewhere in Texas, an SPJST lodge will be hosting a special dance, picnic or festival. During the weekend of April 23-25, Lodge 24, Cyclone, located near Temple in Central Texas, helped to celebrate the season by hosting its first Czech Polka and Waltz Festival. Dancers from around the state converged at Flag Hall on Friday afternoon to enjoy performances by two of the eight bands that performed during the three-day festival. Bands that performed included Donnie Wavra's Orchestra from Columbus, Vrazel's Polka Band from Cameron, Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous 6 from Pflugerville, Larry Sodek and the Central Texas Sounds from Fayetteville, A.J. Draybek and the Dutchmasters from Houston, Kovanda's Czech Band Vol. II from Fayetteville, the Red Ravens from Kyle and Jerry Haisler and the Melody Five from Temple. A special perfor-

Polka and waltz enthusiasts from all over the state got together over the weekend at Lodge 24, Cyclone. mance by the Beseda Dancers from Lodge 47, Seaton, also helped to bring color to the event.. A camera crew and audio team from Omaha, Nebraska was on hand to record the occasion.

"Big events like this are a good way to involve a lot of members," says Lodge 24 President Carol Chervenka. "Everybody that was contacted was willing to help out in some way or another—

whether it was coming in to work or through the contribution of a food item. The membership really came through.' "What's more," she adds, "It was a lot of fun." Jennifer Ashcraft, 13, a member of the Lodge 24 Youth Club, agrees. For two days during the festival, she helped in the kitchen, worked in the novelty shop and helped keep the hall clean. "It was something interesting to do," she says. "There were people from all over having a good time." Having a good time. It's an important part of any fraternal activity. It's a pleasant reward for all of the time and energy that go into any successful lodge project. The Spring District Meeting season is just about over and in the coming weeks and months, SPJST lodges all over the state will be hosting their annual picnics, cook offs, dance festivals and heritage days. Watch the Vestnik calendar of events for activities in your area and get ready to have a good time!
