THE LOCAL LODGE RECOGNITION AND INCENTIVES AWARD PROGRAM GOLD STAR AWARD Lodge must meet any nine categories out of the 12 listed on page three, plus enroll 25 or more new members. Simple Plan Offers Incentives

It Was a Busy Week This was certainly a week for news in the SPJST. This week's cover story goes into some detail on the new lodge recognition and incentive plan adopted by the Supreme Lodge last week. The plan, which is designed to build membership and stimulate local lodge activity, was unveiled by Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar at the Local Lodge Workshop held at Lodge 177, Academy on Saturday, March 13.

After having some timetostudy the the plan and discuss it with some of our officers and a good many of those who attended the workshop, I must say that the new plan does look promising.

In a nutshell,it defines the interdependency of our Society's fraternal and financial operations. Then, it sets to establish an incentive system, whereby local lodges, in essence, will receive bonuses for achieving a healthy balance of fraternal interaction and new member activity.

It's that simple-but, will it work?

It will, provided that we give it a chance to work. Certainly, it will impact each lodge in a different way. For lodges with strong fraternal programs and a lot of active sales representatives, it should be a relatively easy task to achieve at least some degree of merit award. For less active lodges, it will be a little more of a challenge. The added incentive of receiving a thousand dollars-or more-to apply towards their fraternal program, will be an attractive incentive for members to maintain an active calendar of events and to provide their sales representatives with leads for new members.

Finally, there is a third category of lodges out there-let's call them the "active" inactives. For some of them, the new plan may seem like so much "pie in the sky." Lodges that haven't added a dozen new members over the last five years may wonder what the new plan holds for them. If you are an optimist, then it holds a promise for the future.

More than that, it provides lodge officers and trustees with the perfect reason to contact their district director or Supreme Lodge officers and ask, "Hey, what can we do to make this program work for us?"

Then what happens? It's difficult to say. It's at that point that a lot of intangibles come into play. Things like commitment. Things like initiative and innovation. Things like perseverance ...

As previously stated, the new lodge recognition and incentive program is basically a good plan. It may be a little rough around the edges-but, nothing I don't believe, that can't be worked out. Workshop Receives High Marks The Local Lodge Workshop was held Saturday, March 13 at Lodge 177, Academy. Approximately 240 members turned out for the program. In addition to that information which we have already covered, those in attendance participated in a three-hour seminar on building new lodge membership and stimulating member activity. Leading the program was business consultant Laurie Moore of Dallas.

For someone who was not a member of the Society, Ms. Moore certainly did her homework, gearing her presentation specifically to the challenges facing our Society, and indeed, the entire fraternal system. My compliments to the Insurance Department for organizing a very well-conceived and informative program.

Ms. Moore's presentation underscored the theme of the new lodge recognition and incentive plan, namely that it is our fraternal program that separates the SPJST from every other fraternal society-and for that matter-every other insurance organization. Likewise, she delivered the message that it is important that we work to achieve a healthy balance of new member activity to insure the vitality of our fraternal program.

Judging from the mail-in critiques that have started to come in, most of those who attended enjoyed the program. We enjoyed it-yes, but let's not let it stop there. Let's work to apply in our local lodges, some of the planning strategies that Ms. Moore covered in her presentation ... I might also mention at this time that the videotape I made during Saturday morning's session-which covers President Leshikar's introduction of the new lodge recognition and incentive program and the first half of Laurie Moore's presentation-is available for use by your lodge. As your reporter, I can identify with your desire to see the minutes as soon after the meeting as possible. However, as was noted in a previous issue of the Vestnik, Supreme Lodge members voted in their January meeting to require approval of the minutes by the Board before printing the minutes in the Vestnik. Regardless of the change in procedure, I am compelled to acknowledge the typically fine and thorough job Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska did in preparing these minutes.

The Minutes of the January 11-13, 1993 Regular Meeting of the Supreme Lodge SPJST held at the Home Office in Temple ,Texas The meeting was called to order by Chairman of the Board Cyrill (Sid) Pokladnik at 8:30 a.m. with the following Supreme Lodge Members present: Howard B. Leshikar, Pres.

Cyrill Pokladnik-III, Bernard M. Gebala, Vice Pres.

Chairman of the Board Leonard D. Mikeska, Sec.-Treas. Stanley Broz-IV, Louis Hanus-V, Jerry Mikulas, Financial Sec. Matt S. Vanek-VI, Sidney Kacir, Legal Advisor Vice Chairman of the Board Andrew Vavra-1 Robert Bayer-VII Willie E. Kohutek-II Outgoing Director Thelma Hrncir was present for the audit and Editor Brian Vanicek was also present.

The first item of business was the election of Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Board. The Chair was turned over to President Leshikar.

Director Hanus nominated Sid Pokladnik as Chairman of the Board. There were no other nominations. Director Pokladnik was elected by acclamation.

Director Broz nominated Matt Vanek. There were no other nominations. Director Vanek was elected Vice Chairman of the Board by acclamation.

The chair returned to Chairman of the Board Pokladnik. He thanked the Board for electing him. He pledged to do his best and asked for the cooperation of the Board.

Vice Chairman Vanek thanked the Board for electing him and pledged his best.

AUDIT ASSIGNMENTS - The following audit assignments were made: Bank audit of securities: Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, President Leshikar, Director Kohutek, Director Broz, and Director Pokladnik. Director Kohutek was appointed as secretary of the securities audit sub committee.

Ledger: Director Hanus and Director Hrncir Vouchers: Director Vavra and Director Vanek MINUTES - The minutes of the October 5-6, 1992 regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge were considered page by page. There were no corrections, and the minutes were unanimously approved on motion by Director Hrncir, seconded by Director Broz.

The minutes of the December 18, 1992 special meeting of the Supreme Lodge were considered page by page. On page 277, the first sentence under "annuities" was changed to read "Vice President Gebala presented for consideration a new proposed annuity contract as requested by the Board..."

The minutes were approved with the one addition on motion by Director Kohutek, seconded by Director Vanek. Motion carried unanimously.

OFFICERS' REPORTS - Supreme Lodge officers' reports were considered. Comments were made that some of the reports were not received in time to adequately review them, and it would have been much better if the meeting had been held a week later to allow Supreme Lodge officers time to get the reports to all Supreme Lodge members. There was some discussion if the. meeting date was in compliance with the

By Laws or if it should have been held a week later. Time was allowed to review the reports.

Recess was taken at 9:20 a.m. time to complete the audit.

OFFICERS' REPORTS - The Supreme Lodge officers' reports were taken up and acknowledged on unanimously adopted motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Broz. (Reports will be placed of record in Exhibits Volume 13.)

DIRECTORS' AUDIT - Director Hanus presented the report on the audit of the ledger. He asked for clarification and additional information on the increase in bond interest, decrease in certificate of deposit interest, increase in loan application fees, change in matured endowments, drop in bond expense account, mortgage loan expense, adult commissions, increase in contributions expense and premium income.

He stated his opinion that he thought everything looked good. Director Hrncir commended Financial Secretary Mikulas on keeping a good set of books.

UNFINISHED/DEFERRED BUSINESS MAI I k,RS MISSION AND GOALS - President Leshikar brought up a review of the Mission and Goals. The Board proceeded to review the SPJST Goals and Objectives.

On page 4, it was observed that officers we,e not holding weekly scheduled meetings and it was agreed effort would be made to hold officers' meetings on a more regular basis.

On page 5, concerning review of member service, effort should be made to look into the level of service provided to our members to determine if there are areas that could be improved. It was suggested that page 5 needs to be revised and expanded to include lodges, extending to include lodge rules, regulations and procedures.

There was a general discussion about philosophy of the organization. There was discussion about the shortcomings in our goals and objectives and the need to know what is our philosophy of meeting the needs of our members. It was agreed that the Supreme Lodge would be working on updating the goals and objectives.

It was agreed on motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Hanus that the officers develop specific workable plans to achieve our goals and objectives and develop a philosophy by the March Supreme Lodge meeting and a consensus then reached and unanimously agreed upon by the Board.

BY-LAW COMMII ILE'S RECOMMENDATIONS - There was a review of eight recommendations presented by the By-Law Committee to be carefully considered by the Board. It was understood that the recommendations are only guidelines but they do need to be adequately considered. There was considerable discussion about each of the guidelines. There was a review of the Convention action recorded in the first paragraph of Page 30 of the Convention Proceedings of the XXVI Convention and each item was reviewed. After concluding the deliberation, it was decided on motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Vice President Gebala, that the minutes, in accordance with the statement by the Convention Chairman, the Recommendations are only guidelines for the Supreme Lodge, that the minutes should reflect that the guidelines were reviewed and carefully considered. Motion carried unanimously.

RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE FINANCE COMMI'T'TEE - There was a discussion of the recommendations of the Finance Committee as adopted by the Convention. The recommendations for allocations were reviewed. There was also discussion about the provisions adopted authorizing the Finance Committee to meet in July 1993, 1994, and 1995.

DISTRICT RECOGNITION BANQUETS - President Leshikar reported and proposed that in order to show appreciation to the lodges, "District Recognition Banquets" be held at which time recognition would be given to members and to lodges for certain achievements. This would be tied in with the "Incentive Program" that is being worked on.

The Supreme Lodge President and Vice President and other Supreme Lodge members will be working together to plan this event. The Banquet should be formal, and could be held on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon. The Banquet would be by special invitation only. Lodge Officers, Trustees, Sales Reps, and Members achieving certain set goals, and their spouses would be invited. Opinion was expressed that this event would be something worked for and looked forward to by the District. It was agreed that the District Recognition Banquet planning should be continued and it should be incorporated in our Goals and Objectives.

LOCAL LODGE - QUARTERLY MEETINGS - President Leshikar reported that the following lodges have requested quarterly meeting approval: Lodge 1 - Fayetteville Lodge 49 - Rowena Lodge 91 - San Jacinto Lodge 196 - Houston Northwest Lodge 23 - Moravia Lodge 97 - Placedo Lodge 125 - Westhoff Lodge 153 - La Salle The requests to hold quarterly meetings was discussed at length. Legal Advisor Kacir moved that the eight lodges listed be given permission to meet quarterly since they had been given permission to do so previously. Director Vanek seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Consideration was given to the request from Lodge 30, Taiton that permission be granted to change from monthly meetings to quarterly. On motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Vanek, it was agreed to give Lodge No. 30 permission to meet quarterly. Motion carried unanimously.

It was understood that Director Hrncir had completed the portion of the audit assigned to her and was not required to stay for the remainder of the session. Director Hrncir addressed the Board and reflected back on her years of service on the Board. She presented a small item to each Board member and related the presentation to their job, hobby or interest. She shared her observations about the SPJST.

SCHOLARSHIP REPORT - President Leshikar reported that this has been a record year for the scholarship program and the freshmen applicants for this year are higher than they have ever been before. The number of total applicants is higher than ever before, and we have surpassed the goal of sixteen additional scholarships due to the 100 Pennies Drive. This enabled the SPJST to give a total of 84 scholarships this year.

President Leshikar reported were able to give 34 additional scholarships over and above the annual allocation of $25,000.00.

President Leshikar, speaking in behalf of the Society, thanked Sister HiTicir for sharing a portion of her life with the SPJST. He wished her good health and prosperity. Other members of the Board expressed appreciation to Sister Hrncir and wished her good luck, good health, and prosperity. Sister Hrncir was excused from the meeting. Director Robert Bayer was welcomed to the Board as the incoming Directorfrom District VII.

President Leshikar recommended that we give seven District Merit Scholarships, two Royalty Scholarships, three Technical Scholarships, and 72 regular scholarships. After discussion President Leshikar moved that 84 scholarships of $500 be awarded. The motion was seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

PERPETUAL ENDOWMENT - Action on the perpetual scholarship endowment study was postponed to the March Supreme Lodge meeting. The postponement was approved on motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Bayer and carried unanimously.

Recess was taken at 5:05 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. January 12, 1993.

BY-LAWS DISCUSSION - President Leshikar called attention to Article 1(k), Article 37 (b), Article 43 (a) and (e), Article 1( c ).

The Legal Advisor also pointed out to the Board and read from page twelve of the Convention proceeding where the entire delegate group was informed that the legal secretary was a full time employee.

The Legal Advisor also referred to the Finance Committee's report adopted by the delegates and was of the opinion it does not state or imply that the Legal Advisor is expected to supplement an SPJST employee's pay. He further stated opinion that the whole thrust of everything the Convention did supports that this employee is the same as any other SPJST employee.

President Leshikar stated that on December 18, a special meeting was called, and one of the purposes for the meeting was to consider employee salaries. He stated his opinion that the directors did not have authority to meet separately from the Officers as they did, and stated he was not even aware of the fact that the seven directors were having a separate meeting for the purpose of coming up with a decision or a recommendation.

The directors responded that they were not furnished with timely information, and two of the officers did not furnish salary information until the directors arrived in Temple.

President Leshikar reminded the Board he had asked twice during the October meeting how the Officers were to proceed in the matter of employee salary adjustments and in his opinion, there was no response or agreement reached. Chairman Pokladnik turned the Chair over to Vice Chairman Vanek. Chairman Pokladnik stated he called the officers asking for their feelings on salaries. He stated that he received information from three of the officers in advance, from one officer the day before the meeting, and from one officer the day of the meeting. He indicated the directors just got together to discuss the matter the morning before and that there was nothing done "under the cover".

Legal Advisor Kacir moved that the Legal Advisor's secretary's salary be adjusted.

Vice President Gebala seconded. Voting in favor: Vice President Gebala, SecretaryTreasurer Mikeska, President Leshikar, Legal Advisor Kacir, and Director Bayer. Voting in opposition were: Director Pokladnik, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Director Vavra, Director Kohutek, Director Broz, Director Hanus, Director Vanek. The motion failed.

One director questioned Legal Advisor Kacir as to the reasons the directors cannot meet separately. Legal Advisor Kacir summarized the facts centering on the power structure of the Supreme Lodge. He shared his opinion that directors certainly cannot be precluded from discussing matters, but the critical issue is to not make any effort to make a decision. He stated that anytime the officers meet separately, it is provided for in the By-Laws or it is when the Board has asked them to meet on a matter. The danger and problem is that the directors could meet and decide on a matter and could block vote and that this procedure could circumvent the opportunity for the entire Board to have the opportunity to participate in the decision making process.

MUSEUM - Report was made that the total number of museum visitors in 1992 was 3,086. It was reported that a derringer was stolen from the museum. The incident was reported to the police. A panic system was recently installed for the safety of the museum curator and other Home Office personnel with the greatest exposure to the general public.

He commented that in most Societies, the members have lost meaningful control. In the SPJST, the members do have meaningful control. The problem occurs when the directors meet separately and take a position, as was the case on the employee salary recommendation at the directors' special meeting. He specifically commented on the position the directors took on the directors' salary recommendation for the legal secre tary, which he thought unfair. He stated his opinion that it is prohibited for only the seven directors to meet privately to reach decisions, but there is no mechanical problem in the directors meeting as long as they are not taking position.

The directors responded that the communication on salaries was not as good as it should have been. The directors stated they thought that they were generous in their recommendation for employee salary adjustments and getting together to discuss was not really a meeting as motions were not made.

Director Pokladnik stated that his intention was to bring the directors in before the meeting and let them call in individual officers for information they might need. When he was denied having the directors meet separately it was perceived as a need for the directors to get together. The directors indicated there wasn't any intent to block vote on the matter.

President Leshikar asked that he be allowed to bring back for discussion salary adjustments in his department. Vote was taken, and it was unanimously agreed to allow him to put the matter on the floor for discussion. He discussed his feeling about adjustments in his department and proposed additional adjustments. Question was asked if we were reconsidering all of the salary adjustments as this was important to know.

President Leshikar moved that three of his employees' adjustments be increased and specific amounts were proposed.

Legal Advisor Kacir seconded. Vote was taken and the following voted in favor: Vice President Gebala, Director Bayer, Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, President Leshikar, and Legal Advisor Kacir. Voting in opposition were: Director Pokladnik, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Director Vavra, Director Kohutek, Director Broz, Director Hanus, Director Vanek. The motion failed.

Legal Advisor Kacir pointed out that at the special Supreme Lodge meeting in December, 1992, the seven district directors brought in a proposed salary for the legal advisor's secretary that was substantially less than had been suggested by the Legal Advisor and at an amount that would require the Legal Advisor to continue supplementing the salary. After asking for an explanation as to how this_amount was arrived at, one district director stated as follows: "They expect the attorney to supplement the pay. We do not know how much time is spent on other work". Legal Advisor Kacir pointed out that since none of the other district directors had any comment as to what they had apparently done, he reluctantly suggested that this amount be increased to a modest amount and this was done.

Legal Advisor Kacir stated the SPJST secretarial work volume keeps the employee busy full time on SPJST work and stated that he had time records with him and offered to make these time records available for their review.

Legal Advisor Kacir explained that effective January 1, 1993, as the Board was informed, this SPJST employee is being paid an amount that is supplemented $3,600 per year by him. He discussed the fact that the amount being paid by SPJST is substantially less than the amount that was requested for this slot, and that no explanation was given as to why the seven district directors came up with their figure. He pointed out that the legal secretary has been serving the Society since June of 1991 and had over four years experience as a legal secretary prior to starting with SPJST

MERGERS LODGE 68 AND 33 - Lodge 68 and 33 were merged into Lodge No. 201. The merger was held on December 13. Appreciation was expressed for Director Vavra attending the pre-plan meeting and addressing their concerns.

LODGE 72 - President Leshikar reported that Lodge 72 - Cameron has voted to disband. The last meeting will be held during January, at which time the books will be turned over to the Supreme Lodge. The majority of Lodge 72 members asked to be transferred to Lodge No. 15 Buckholts.

STATE YOUTH DIRECTOR'S REPORT - The Board reviewed State Youth Director Joni Lange's written report.

YOUTH RULE BOOK AMENDMENTS - State Youth Director Lange recommended the following changes to the Youth Rule Book: Page 14. #9 - Changed to read: A youth, after attaining age 14, may qualify as an LIT and may go to camp with permission from their DYC and after filling out an application to assist at camp as an LIT. A youth 18 and over is expected to be a chaperone, not a camper, and is considered having all privileges of adult membership in the SPJST By-Laws.

Page 19. #5 - Changed to read: The top 6 score sheets with a minimum of 800 points shall be in the office of the State Youth Director no later than June 15. The top five teens will be awarded at the District YAD. Page 24. Add #16 to read: All SYAD entries will be accepted at registration. If, for any reason, disqualification of an item is necessary, the State Youth Director and/or the Supreme Lodge President, along with the DYC/s, will instruct the judges to disregard the entry. The DYC will be responsible for informing the participant.

Page 26 - Merit Point Scholarship - Eliminate the last sentence in the first paragraph.

(A teenager may not earn more than one scholarship.)

Page 27 - Scholarship - Last paragraph changed to read: Any youth that has been the recipient of either the State Merit Point Scholarship, the District Point Scholarship, or the Royalty Scholarship is eligible to receive a General SPJST Scholarship. A youth may receive a maximum of two scholarships within the SPJST. Page 28. #5 - Changed to read: Dancers from two or more lodges may combine to form a Beseda circle if one lodge does not have enough dancers to form a circle. (*NOTE* In the April 1992 minutes consideration was given to this proposal on a trial basis of one year.)

Page 29 - Scrapbook - Add: (e.) Must contain the previous year's theme.

Page 30 - Craft - Add: Craft participants are not to have their names on any part of their entries.

Page 31 - Foods - Add: - Only the food item will be judged.

Page 33 - Pantomime - Changed to read: A dramatic performance using mute gestures to show action.

Lip Synching - A dramatic performance along with the movement of one's lips in synchronization to a live or recorded accompaniment.

Page 34 - Royalty - Eliminate the $30 cash award for the reigning State King and Queen since they already receive reimbursement for travel expenses and a scholarship.

The youth rule book changes recommended by the DYCs were unanimously approved on motion by Director Bayer, seconded by Vice President Gebala.

TEXAS FRAI'ERNAL CONGRESS REIMBURSEMENT - SYD Lange requested authorization for reimbursement for one entry from each district to perform at the Texas Fraternal Congress. Entries would be selected from 1-3 place state winners only If there were no 1-3 place state winners from a district, performers will be selected at random by the SYD and Supreme bodge President for a total of seven performances.

STATE FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES COORDINATOR'S REPORT - FAC Frank Klinkovsky's written report was reviewed.

NFCA FRATERNAL SECTION MEETING - Authorization was given to FAC Klinkovsky to attend the Fraternal Section meeting on April 18-20, 1993 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The motion was by Director Bayer, seconded by President Leshikar and it carried unanimously.

FRATERNALIST OF THE YEAR - Consideration was given to the selection of a Fraternalist of the Year from among the nominees and information submitted and made available to all Supreme Lodge members. Voting by secret ballot revealed the top five finalists to be: Erwin Holy, Jerry Dressler, Bessie Petr, Frank Pajestka and Elizabeth Urbanek.

A secret ballot of the finalists was taken, and Jerry Dressler was chosen Fraternalist of the Year.

REINSURANCE TREATIES - The Society has a proposal from Optimum Re that has been reviewed by our actuary. Vice President Gebala requested permission to utilize Optimum Re along with our primary reinsurer of Lincoln National for reinsurance cases.

On motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Director Hanus, it was agreed to approve Optimum Re for reinsurances cases. Motion carried unanimously.

SCHEDULE OF MEETINGS FOR 1 4 1-â– MA/TEXAS F.I.C. - Vice President Gebala reported that as President of the 1-1MA section he would be required to attend meetings on January 21-24 in Panama City, Florida; February 18-19 in San Antonio, Texas; May 5-7 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and September 29 - October 2 in San Antonio, Texas and January 29 in La Grange, Texas. The trips for Vice President Gebala were authorized on motion by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Broz. Carried unanimously.

PICNIC PACS - The reorder of Picnic Pacs, as an advertising item, were approved on motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Bayer and carried unanimously. The Pacs include napkins and plastic ware.

Recess was taken from 2:35 p.m. to 2:50 p.m.

LODGE INSURANCE GOALS - Vice President Gebala presented for review lodge insurance goals by District and by lodge as directed by the Supreme Lodge. The insurance goals and membership goals were reviewed, and it was agreed that this was a good approach. Additional work will be done on this approach and the incentives and rewards.

MEMBER BENEFITS - Vice President Gebala referred to a schedule of benefits he had compiled listing various benefits provided by other fraternal benefit societies.

QUICK START II ENROLLEES - Vice President Gebala presented a report of approximate 100 enrollees by district. This is a sales training course in which enrollees will be reimbursed for the cost if they complete and pass it. It was reported that enrollment has exceeded the initial projection and each enrollee has paid an $80 book cost.

(a) REO #181 - Residence at 5401 Lea Crest, in city of Ft. Worth, Tarrant County, Texas, foreclosed 2-4-92. Sold for $54,900. Loss on sale was $9,090.66. SPJST financed $49,900 purchase money loan. On motion by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Vavra, the sale was ratified as reported. Motion carried unanimously.

ANNUITY PLANS - Vice President Gebala reported that the plans the Supreme Lodge asked to be prepared for approval by the Texas Insurance Department have been accomplished. The Supreme Lodge must now decide which plans to incorporate and market for 1993. Decisions need to be made on the guaranteed rate, and the withdrawal charge period.

(b) REO #182 & #183 - Commercial property located at 6620 - 6630 Azle Avenue, Lake Worth, Texas in Tarrant County. Book Value is $92,852.49. Foreclosed 6-2-92.

Listed for sale with Prudential Keystone Realtors for $108,900. Supreme Lodge Officers and Director Pokladnik have authority to decide and act on offers.

There was a question of whether the funds in the new plan would be commingled with the old annuity plan for spread calculation purposes.

Recess for lunch was taken at 12 noon until 1 p.m.

SPJST LODGE NO 74 - Director Willie Kohutek introduced Win Bradshaw, the president of Lodge No. 74, and Chester Shmoldas. Brother Bradshaw addressed the Board and reviewed the financial needs of SPJST Lodge No. 74. He referred to a written proposal dated December 7, 1992 submitted in the form of a Resolution. The Board discussed the matter and asked questions. Upon conclusion Brothers Bradshaw and Shmoldas were excused from the meeting.

FORECLOSED PROPERTY - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska presented the following report on foreclosed property:

(c) REO #185 - Residence on 11.04 acre'tract located at 375 Southridge, Weatherford, Texas, in Parker County. Book value $125,464.36. Foreclosed 9-1-92. Have contract to sell property for $100,000; $10,000 cash down payment and SPJST purchase money loan for $90,000. Loan was approved by SPJST on December 31, 1992 to proposed purchasers. Closing is anticipated on or about January 20, 1993. We have entered into a Buyer's Temporary Residential Lease. On motion by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Broz, the sale was ratified as reported. (d) REO #186 - Residence at 5831 Millar Drive, Dallas, Texas, in Tarrant County.

Book value $35,761.08. Foreclosed 9-1-92. Property listed with J. Fite Realty for $21,500. Supreme Lodge Officers and Director Pokladnik have full authority to decide and act on offers.

The Board proceeded to discuss the request of the lodge.

The first matter taken up was the lodge's request to write off the delinquent amount of some $50,983.62. On motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas, it was decided not to write down the loan balance or delinquency. Motion carried unanimously.

The lodge further requested to refinance the existing loan balance and add an advance of $25,000 for needs. After discussion, it was decided to authorize the refinancing of the existing balance and an advance of $25,000 plus payment of delinquent taxes. The loan will be subject to an appraisal and the usual processing requirements for a lodge.

The first payment, interest only, would be due four months after closing. Installments will he due monthly thereafter, the loan being repayable over a 20-year term and the maximum not to exceed $90,000. The interest rate is the approved rate in force for lodges. The motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Director Kohutek and carried unanimously.

Director Hanus suggested we write Lodge No. 74 a letter encouraging them to use a procedure similar to that used at Lodge No. 88 in that members pledge their certificates for certificate loans to be used by the lodge. No action taken.

NEW ANNUITY PLAN - The discussion returned to the annuity plans. The guaranteed rate on the annuity plan was set at 3 percent on motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by President Leshikar and carried unanimously.

The withdrawal charge period was set at 7 years on a unanimously adopted motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Director Hanus.

Vice President Gebala would determine whether or not premiums could continue to be accepted into the old plan, and if so, would commission be paid on premiums paid on the old annuity.

RATE BOOR CHANGES - Vice President Gebala reported that all ratebook changes passed by the Supreme Lodge at the December 18, 1992 meeting are at the printer. He anticipates these changes will be distributed to all sales representatives by the end of the month.

ACTUARIAL FILINGS TO TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF INSURANCE - Vice President Gebala reported that all filings required have been acted upon in Austin, and certificate forms are being changed as required. Although this action was not approved by the Supreme Lodge until December 18, 1992, all administrative paperwork and actuarial filings have been accomplished prior to January 1, 1993 as directed by the Texas Department of Insurance.

(e) REO #187 - Farm with residence and barns located near Seymour in Baylor County, Texas. Book value $105,837.75. After review of outside appraisal, the Supreme Lodge officers and Director Broz set the sales price at $65,000, and decided not to list with a realtor for 90-days. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska moved that the Supreme Lodge officers and Director Broz have full authority to decide and act on offers. REAL ESTATE LOANS/DELINQUENCIES - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reviewed a list of loans delinquent three or more months. The Board reviewed the loans on the list and discussed collection of the delinquencies. After due deliberation, the recommendations for action were unanimously approved on motion by SecretaryTreasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Vavra.

LOSS RESERVE ON REAL ESTATE OWNED/REAL ESTATE LOANS Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported on delinquent loans, and real estate owned was reviewed as well. Recommended reserves for potential loan losses are included in the delinquency report.

It was reported that the reserves for anticipated loan losses are reviewed at each SL meeting. The Board considered the recommendation of the following loss reserve for potential losses and set a loss reserve of $74,000 for real estate loans.

Factors used are: the director's current report on property, and/or the tax market value and other available data.

In the year 1992 we increased the total subscription count by 135. The present printing cost amounts to $1,308 per week and $1,240 per week in postage cost. • The Society forwarded one calendar to each household for a total of 28,050 calendars.

The total cost in mailing 28,050 calendars amounted to $4,507.21.

BUDGET - 1992 - Financial Secretary Mikulas referred to a comparison of actual income and expenses with the budgeted amount for 1992. The total actual income exceeded anticipated income by 44 percent, while the total expenses did not exceed the budget amount. Expenses budgeted for 1992 were $6,598,192.01 compared to the actual amount spent of $6,619,790.97. Overall, all income and expenses were said to have stayed well within allocated amounts.

STAFF, EXAMINATION - Financial Secretary Mikulas informed the Board that on December 4, 1992, the Texas Department of Insurance informed our office that an examination would be conducted as of December 31, 1992. This audit was to have been conducted as of September 30, 1992; however, the Texas Department of Insurance has rescheduled this examination.

REFUND TO LODGES FOR 1992/TO BE PAID IN 1993 - Financial Secretary Mikulas reviewed the action taken in our special December Supreme Lodge Meeting.

He referred to Attachment III of his report that listed the refund to each lodge and the special refund, which included $5.00 per certificates issued in 1992, excluding annuities. The total of this refund will amount to $188,555.50 plus a special refund of $5,485.00, making a grand total of $194,040.50. Lodges 25-Ennis, 74-Lovelady, and 29-Taylor have been advanced refunds for 1992, and these amounts will be deducted from their entitlement.

Based on the adjusted formula, no lodge will receive less than the amount received the previous year.

LOANS WITH PENDING LEGAL WORK - Legal Advisor Kacir referred to lists of new loans being processed with work and requirements pending.

LITIGATIONS SUITS - Legal Advisor Kacir gave an item-by-item report on five tax suits in process and 5 threatened tax suits.

CLOSED LITIGATION, CLOSED THREATENED LITIGATION AND CLOSED FORECLOSURES - Legal Advisor Kacir gave an item-by-item report on twelve matters involving foreclosures/litigation.

BANKRUPTCIES - Legal Advisor Kacir reported on handling of four bankruptcies of members having SPJST mortgage loans.

ASSOCIATION OF FRATERNAL BENEFIT COUNSEL - Legal Advisor Kacir was authorized to attend the Association of Fraternal Benefit Counsel Convention on May 6-8 in Hilton Head, South Carolina. The motion was by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Director Broz and it carried unanimously.

DISTRICT II - Director Kohutek asked if the Czech Language allocation to University of Texas could be used to subsidize a student's Czech Language tuition and was advised this was permissible. The names of the benefactor students and the amounts subsidized should be provided to SPJST.

DISTRICT IV - Director Broz reported that he inspected the property recently foreclosed near Seymour. He discussed his efforts to market the property.

President Leshikar and Director Vavra were excused from the meeting at 4:30 p.m. to attend a local lodge function.

DISTRICT V - Director Hanus requested that Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska look into the possibility of planting red-tipped photenia shrubs around the Home Office building.

DISTRICT VI - Director Vanek asked for clarification of the $750 allocated for the district fraternal fests. His request concerned the refund of the unused portion of the $750. It was determined that this referred to initial expenses and not profit.

DISTRICT VII - Director Bayer commented on the increase in paperwork since he previously served on the Board.

DISTRICT III - Director Pokladnik was authorized to attend the Fraternal and Communication Section meeting in Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The motion was by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Kohutek and it carried unanimously.

Recess for the day was taken at 4:55 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. January 13, 1993.

DIRECTORS' AUDIT REPORT - Director Kohutek reported on the board's audit of securities. He stated the audit was. conducted in conjunction with the external auditors and that the audit indicated a record number of transactions this quarter. All securities were accounted for and were found in order. Motion to accept the report was by Director Broz, seconded by Director Vavra and it carried unanimously.

Director Vavra reported on the audit of vouchers. Director Vavra stated it was his opinion that a timeclock should be instituted for employees. The advantages/disadvantages of a time clock were discussed. The need for documentation of comp-time was also discussed. It was agreed the officers should discuss timeliness with all employees.

Comp-time is to be taken as soon as practical after accumulation, and must be taken within ten working days, and cannot be accumulated beyond ten days.

Director Vanek reported on the audit. The matter of mileage logs for SPJST automobiles was discussed. On motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Vanek, it was agreed to institute daily mileage logs for all SPJST automobiles.

Director Vanek called attention to a number of long distance calls in the time range of up to 56 minutes. The officers were cautioned to hold down the conversation time on long distance. Director Pokladnik urged that effort be made to hold down time on long distance calls.

REO NO. 187, 100-ACRE FARM NEAR SEYMOUR - There was discussion about the outside appraisal that was obtained on the foreclosed property owned by the Society near Seymour. It was reported the appraisal was done by a certified Master Farm and land appraiser who placed a market value of $55,770 on the land and buildings. Several directors questioned the market value conclusion of the appraiser and voiced their opinion they could not have missed the value by over $50,000 in their appraisal in May of 1988. There was discussion about the decrease in property values since 1988, deterioration of house and barn and other factors. Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska suggested that we secure an appraisal from another certified appraiser, but it was decided to not do so.

Chairman Pokladnik relinquished the chair to Vice Chairman Vanek to speak on the matter and made a motion. Director Pokladnik moved that the sales price on the farm owned in Baylor County near Seymour be reconsidered and increased from $65,000 to $75,000. The motion was seconded by Director Broz and it carried unanimously.

NFCA - Editor Vanicek was authorized to attend the NFCA Communication Section meeting on April 18-20, 1993 at Lake Tahoe, Nevada. The motion was by President Leshikar, seconded by Legal Advisor Kacir and it carried unanimously.

I ECHNICAL SCHOLARSHIPS - President Leshikar discussed the idea to include any accredited business or technical college with a program of one year or longer.

Schools would have to prove their accreditation before students attending would receive a technical scholarship of $500.00. The reason for this request is that we have had many requests to open this up to other technical schools.

It was agreed to expand technical scholarships to include accredited business colleges with programs of one year or more. The motion was by President Leshikar, seconded

by Director Bayer and carried unanimously. Technical Scholarships are limited to no more than five per year.

CZECH STUDENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE - President Leshikar reported that we have been approached through Temple Junior College if we would consider helping with the finances of a young Czech student who is attending the college. His visa does not allow him to hold a job off campus and the visa allowing him to work off campus will not arrive until late spring. The money he is receiving does not cover his expenses.

The student needs approximately $700.

On motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Director Hanus, it was agreed to donate $100 to the student out of the cultural exchange fund. Motion carried unanimously.

INTERNAL CONTROLS - President Leshikar reviewed a letter from our external audit firm. The letter from the auditor indicates their contract does not include an audit of internal controls. President Leshikar stated that in order to facilitate good business procedures and practices, it would be advantageous that we ask our external auditors to do a study of our internal control system.

CZECH LANGUAGE ALLOCATION - President Leshikar reported that as of January 1, 1993, by Convention action, local lodges will now be able to petition the Supreme Lodge for Czech Language Allocations. The proposed guidelines follow:

It was understood that on funds rolled from the old plan the withdrawal charge, if any, would be waived on withdrawal from the old plan, but the full seven year withdrawal charge would then apply on the new annuity. Approved on motion by Financial Secretary Mikulas, seconded by Director Kohutek and carried unanimously.

1. Class must be a minimum of five persons.

2. Instructor must be proficient in the Czech language.

3. Local Lodge and SPJST will handle aspects of the program within Supreme Lodge guidelines.

4. Maximum of $40 per student.

ANNUITY RAFE FOR NEW PLAN - After discussion it was decided to allocate $1 million of assets as a start-up allocation for the new annuity program. The motion was

by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously.

The agenda turned to setting the annuity rate on the new plan as soon as it is marketed.

Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska stated that it would take some time to do some projections on the matter, but without doing so, suggested a conservative rate of 5.5 percent. He stated he could have his staff do some projections based on the information now available. Further action postponed to later during the meeting.

5. Minimum of 15 hours.

6. No credits will be given for the course.

INVESTMENTS - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska referred to the list of loans and investments for the period beginning October 1, 1992 through December 31, 1992.

7. Local Lodge will report on how the money is spent and return any unused portion of the allocation.

The loans and investments were ratified on motion by Director Bayer, seconded by Director Hanus. Motion carried unanimously.

This program is designed to promote the Czech language study by small groups and in areas where communities do not have close access to language studies. Participants in the class should come away with a better understanding of the language.

A deadline of April 1 was agreed upon for applications with a limit of $200 per instructor. Director Manus moved that the proposed program for SPJST lodges be adopted.

Seconded by Director Kohutek and carried unanimously.

TRAVEL - President Leshikar reported he would attend the following: NFC President's Section on February 19 in San Antonio, Texas and NFCA President's Section Annual meeting in Universal City, California on March 28-30.

LOCAL LODGE WORKSHOP 1993 - Vice President Gebala noted that it was his year in the normal rotation of officer chairmanship of the local lodge workshop. He recommended the workshop be held at Lodge 177 on Saturday, March 13, 1993. He also recommended that the March Supreme Lodge meeting be held on March 11-12, 1993 as it would save on mileage expense if held the day after the Board meeting.

The following decisions were reached: 1. Vice President Gebala will be coordinator of the 1993 workshop.

2. The date was set for March 13, 1993.

INVESTMENT POLICY - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that in accordance with requirements, the Supreme Lodge should review the Society Investment Policy last amended during the July Supreme Lodge meeting. He referred to a copy attached to his report.

It was agreed on motion by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Kohutek to add the following category in the Society Investment Policy: Mortgage Securities and other mortgage backed derivative securities, in whatever amount, is determined by the Supreme Lodge Officers. Motion carried unanimously.

The amount authorized for bonds and government guaranteed securities was increased form 65 percent to 75 percent on unanimously adopted motion by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas.

UNIVERSAL LIFE RATE - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the Universal Life rate of 7% is effective through January 31,1993 and review of the rates is needed.

He stated that the gross yield on $6,991,145.91 of assets allocated to Universal Life is 8.69 percent. The spread is 1.69 percent. The assets allocated are bonds and mortgages on a 2 to 1 ratio. The average yield on bonds allocated is 8.23 percent and on mortgages since 1986 is 9.47 percent.

He requested input from the Board on whether the current gross spread of 1.69 percent is adequate and whether the current payout rate of 7 percent is competitive.

3. The location will be SPJST Lodge No. 177.

4. Motivational instructor Laurie Moore will be brought in to prepare and present a 3-hour program at a cost of $1,500 plus expenses.

The motion approving the above was by Director Hanus, seconded by President Leshikar and carried unanimously.

LAS VEGAS INCENTIVE TRIP - A clarification was asked on the trip. Directors and employees are not in competition for the top 25 who will win the trip to Las Vegas.

Vice President Gebala asked that if directors or employees are within the top 25, should they receive the trip in addition to 25 other winners.

After discussion the following was decided on motion by Director Vanek, seconded by Director Broz. Motion carried unanimously.

1. Directors, directors' spouses, and Home Office employees are not in competition for incentive contests.

2. The top 25 in the Las Vegas incentive are not to include directors, directors' spouses and Home Office employees; however; if any of these individuals falls within the guidelines of the contest, they will be eligible to receive the trip. Home Office employees must use vacation or leave time if they qualify.

EMPLOYEES HEALTH PLAN - Two Home Office employees, Jerome Hlavaty and Helen Hegwood, live outside of the service area of the SPJST employee health plan through Scott and White Health Plan.

It was agreed to authorize the payment of these two individuals' premiums in their self provided plan, but the payment is not to exceed the single adult rate of the Scott and White Health plan. The employees would be required to furnish evidence of payment of premiums paid for their coverage. The motion was by Director Bayer, seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

ANNUITY - A review of current Texas Insurance Department Regulations determined that present annuity holders must be allowed to continue to pay premiums into the old annuity plan if they desire even if a new plan is marketed, but no further old plan certificates can be marketed.

After discussion a motion was unanimously adopted to leave the Universal Life rate at 7% for the period beginning February 1, 1993 through March 31, 1993. The motion was by Financial Secretary Mikulas and seconded by Director Vanek.

ANNUITIES - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the annuity accumulation period rate is 6.25% effective through January 31, 1993. The guaranteed rate is 5 percent. The last rate change occurred in July 1992. Review of the payout rate and the guaranteed rate is needed.

He reported that the gross yield on $29,947.711.18 of annuities is 7.4477 percent. The yield is based on gross return before allowance for servicing expense. The current gross spread is 1.2 percent.

After discussion it was decided to leave the rate at 6.25 percent for the period beginning February 1, 1993 through March 31, 1993. The motion was by Director Vavra, seconded by Director Hanus and it carried unanimously.

CONFLICT OF INTEREST - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska brought up the matter of conflict of interest which is placed on the agenda each January. Each Supreme Lodge member was asked to report conflict of interest, if any, and no conflict of interest was reported by any Supreme Lodge member.

CUSTODIAL ACCOUNT FOR SECURITIES - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that the Resolution adopted at the October Supreme Lodge Meeting provides authority for entering into a custodial agreement with a bank for the purpose of handling and holding securities, and we will need to select a bank to provide this service if we want to have a custodial account.

He referred to bids and a comparison of charges on a projected portfolio of securities.

The comparison was reviewed and discussed.

It was decided to select Texas Commerce Bank of Austin, Texas to provide the custodial account services. It was further decided that, if there should be any problems or significant new information discovered when we are contracting with the bank, the Supreme Lodge officers have the authority to change to the alternate bank bidding on the service. The motion was by President Leshikar, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska and it carried unanimously.

Recess was taken for lunch at 12 noon.

There will be no commissions paid when funds from the old plan are rolled into the new plan and only 1percent commission on additional increases into the old annuity

ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT FORM - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reviewed a proposed new environmental hazard report form to be required from new loan applicants. The form was reviewed and discussed and approved by common consent.

GAIN IN ASSETS - Financial Secretary Mikulas stated that the Board of Directors' annual report shows a gain in assets of $12,696,140.67. Below is an itemized listing of the gain in assets for the past ten years. He reported our total assets are nearing $91 million. He referred to his comparative report for 1991 and 1992 showing the percentage of increase or decrease of each account. He noted that our income increased by 44 percent over last year, and our expenses increased by 3 percent. He observed that if the Convention expenses were eliminated, our expenses would have decreased from 1991 to 1992.

QUARTERLY STATEMENT 9-30-92 - Financial Secretary Mikulas reviewed the quarterly statement as of 9-30-92, which was filed with the Texas Department of Insurance on 11-6-92.

DELINQUENT LODGES - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that only two lodges have delinquent premiums. They are Lodge 9, Snook with $1,314.76 and Lodge 162, Iowa Colony with $61.87.

PAID-UP ADDITIONS - Financial Secretary Mikulas informed the Board that our paid-up additions program in 1992 permitted members to purchase $891,684.00 of permanent life insurance; otherwise, we would have forwarded over $439,000.00 in cash to our certificate holders. Percentage-wise, approximately 67 percent have taken paidup additions in lieu of cash refunds. The total cash remitted on premium refund checks amounted to $212,869.77.

PROPOSED BUDGET - 1993 - Financial Secretary Mikulas presented the proposed budget for 1993. The proposed budget was reviewed and discussed. It was anticipated that our assets would exceed $100 million by year end.

The proposed budget was approved on unanimously adopted motion by Director Hanus, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska.

PREMIUM REFUND TO MEMBERS - Financial Secretary Mikulas reported that in 1992, premium refund to members was paid at a rate of 3 percent. This refund (including paid-up additions) amounted to $652,565.31. Refunds are paid by the midterminal reserve during the policy year just completed on all permanent-payment plans of insurance that have reached the end of the fifth policy year. An expense charge was deducted from the excess interest component as follows: - $ .35 Premium paying - $1.60 Paid-up Refund checks must amount to $2.25, otherwise, no check is issued.

Vote was taken, and the following voted in favor: Vice President Gebala, Financial Secretary Mikulas, Director Vavra, Director Hanus, Legal Advisor Kacir, Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska, and Director Pokladnik.

Voting in oppositions: Director Kohutek, Director Broz, President Leshikar, Director Vanek, Director Bayer. Motion carried.

Director Vavra discussed requiring approval of minutes by the Board before printing the minutes in the Vestnik since we now meet every two months. After discussion Director Vavra moved and Vice President Gebala seconded that publishing of the minutes in the Vestnik be performed after the minutes are approved by the Supreme Lodge.

Carried unanimously.

It was decided on motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Vice President Gebala that each member of Supreme Lodge be provided an allowance of $300 for SPJST advertising material. Carried unanimously.

DISTRICT II - Director Kohutek brought up for decision the question of using the Czech language allocation.

It was decided not more than 50 percent of total allocation can be used for tuition assistance and not more than 35 percent of any student's tuition can be paid from the allocation. The motion was by Vice President Gebala, and seconded by President Leshikar and carried unanimously.

Director Kohutek said he thought this was a good meeting and he looked forward to good progress in 1993.

DISTRICT IV - Director Broz discussed the need for us to do something to better advertise the SPJST and provide for better name recognition. He indicated we need to work on ways to achieve better name recognition. He discussed the possibility of looking at a name change.

Director Broz suggested having the substitute directors at one of our meetings. It was concluded that the Supreme Lodge meetings are open, and, if a director desires to invite their substitute to visit, they can do so.

Director Broz said he thought we had a good meeting. He welcomed Director Bayer to the Board.

DISTRICT V - Director Hanus invited everyone to attend the District V King and Queen Banquet.

Director Hanus recollected previous years of service on the Board. He suggested update of the Directors' Handbook.

Director Hanus asked a question about interpretation of when the purchase of a tract of land qualifies for the residential interest rate and the definition was clarified.

DISTRICT VI - Director Vanek discussed the fact that the Board would now be meeting every two months.

The recommended premium refund rate for 1993 was unanimously approved.

He welcomed Director Bayer to the Board.

TITLE INSURANCE - Legal Advisor Kacir stated that we continue to be concerned about the failure of some title underwriters. We had a serious problem with one of our loans when one title company went under financially. In addition, we have more title insurance agencies changing ownership, and this complicates our obtaining cooperation in the agents' carrying out closing instructions. Quite a few loans are taking over four months to get our closing papers, and some agencies are not working to carry out closing instructions. This is further complicated by "block" sales of loans. It may be that a reserve will need to be considered for losses in the title insurance area.

Director Vanek said he enjoyed the meeting and commented that everything we did was strictly business, which is how he likes to do things.

MISCELLANEOUS - Legal Advisor Kacir discussed problems encountered because of Texas being one of the last states to still have homestead laws. He discussed problems encountered because some loan companies will not provide assignment in connection with the refinancing of mortgages.

DISTRICT III - Director Pokladnik discussed the large amount of time he and other directors spend with the SPJST. He said that over the past 60 days, he has attended six funerals of SPJST members. He said he installed officers at several lodges, visited members in the hospital and checked on several properties for the Society.

Director Pokladnik said he traveled some 1,000 miles for the SPJST over the past 30 or 40 days. He said .directors spend a great deal of money on various activities. He said it hurt him when people and committees at the Convention do not understand, and he wants it brought up that directors do many things in order to be good fraternalists and to have good relationships. He further added that you will never see an expense requisition on many things he does for the SPJST. Director Pokladnik also discussed the need to better inform the members about the duties and responsibilities of a director.

STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS - Legal Advisor Kacir discussed the implications of matters concerning the statute of limitations. He referred to the files for six Statutes of Limitations matters that will run out this year unless suit is filed on or before the date indicated and for seven matters similarly affected in the year 1994. It was his understanding that the Board did not desire for suit to be filed on these matters and it was so agreed by common consent.

Director Pokladnik said he hopes the word goes out that the directors are doing a good job.

NEW ANNUITY PLAN RATE - Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska reported that his staff had completed projections on anticipated return on an initial projected amount of $3 million. The projected return is 7.97 percent and assuming the 2 percent spread, he recommended a rate of 6 percent. If the Board was willing to operate with a 1.75 percent spread, the rate could be 6.25 percent or with at 1.5 percent spread, 6.5 percent.

DISTRICT VII - Director Bayer said he is looking forward to working with the Supreme Lodge. He commented on the changes and growth of the Society, since he last served in the 1970's.

Director Vanek moved that the rate on the new annuity plan be set at 6.5 percent. The motion was seconded by Director Bayer and it carried unanimously. The rate is for the period from January 1, 1993 through March 31, 1993 to take effect as soon as the new plan is marketed.

Director Pokladnik reported that District III is in process of planning a fraternal fest in District III. He welcomed Director Bayer back to the Board.

On motion by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska the date of the next meeting was changed to March 11 and 12, 1993 to begin at 8:30 a.m.

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 4:30 p.m.

DISTRICT I - Director Vavra discussed the 180-day interest lock in on mortgages.

He discussed a request from a member to extend the lock in beyond the six-months at the same interest rate because the party has not been able to start construction due to weather conditions. After discussion, Director Vavra moved, and Secretary-Treasurer Mikeska seconded that the 180-day lock in be changed to 90-days with one 30-day extension for all applications received after February 1, 1993.

The October 18, 1992 Fall Meeting and Family Day of District Seven was held in Corpus Christi and hosted by Lodge No. 79, Corpus Christi, starting at 11:30 a.m. Sister Jarolyn Popp, president, opened the meeting. Members were welcome to the meeting by Brother Terry Sijansky of Lodge No. 79.

Sister Thelma Hrncir announced that zn SPJST Fraternal Fest will be held in Tweet Home on November 22, 1992.

This is a money-making project for District Seven. She also stated that this is her farewell as serving as District Seven Director for the past 12 years. She was the first woman to serve as a member of the Supreme Lodge. Sister Hrncir then thanked everyone for their support.

Dear Members and Readers, The March meeting began wit the presentation of flags. President Wallace Jez asked the members to remain standing in silent prayer for the deceased members and friends, Ruth Smith and Rose Marie Orsag.

Welcomed to the meeting were seventy members and four visitors-Gertrude Kahlig, Ann Balusek, Della Marinek and Elvern Frenzel.

Sister Martha Klusacek reported the following members to be ill-Tony Orsag, Anton Motl and Johnnie Vanicek.

They were wished a full recovery.

Secretary Dolores Skrabanek read the roll call and minutes of the previous meeting.

Announced as new members were Ella Kotrla, Shirley Luman, Mitchell Parrish, Patricia Mihatsch and Chris Symmank. They are encouraged to take an active part in Star Hall's activities.

Rick Novosad read the board minutes in absence of Secretary of the Board Edwin Vasicek. Stated in the report were some specific details on the upcoming June 6 picnic: • The prizes for the prize drawing will be as follows: First PlaceQuilt; Second Place-1/2 Beef; Third Place Color TV; Fourth Place-Gas grill; Fifth Place-Bicycle.

• Tickets will be $1 each or a book of six for $5. See prize drawing Chairpersons Anna and Gene Hejl for tickets.

• NOTE-The ladies of the Quilt

Committee have already been hard at work cutting and stitching the quilt for this year's picnic. They've said they're making a different, more detailed design this year.

Sister Pechal stated that during the April 4 meeting, the fifty-year members will be honored and awarded their pins.

As part of the celebration, a special meal will be served. Specifically, the lodge will furnish the meat and members are asked to provide a covered dish (a favorite casserole, vegetable, salad, or dessert). In addition to the day's activities, all members are invited to an Easter Egg Hunt for the young and the youngat-heart. Members wanting to donate one dozen plastic-filled eggs may do so; this will certainly be appreciated.

The remaining officers and chairpersons' reports followed. An audit is scheduled for April 5 at 7 p.m.

Youth Leader Judy Pechal highlighted the March 27th Fun Raiser in her report.

Barbecue will be served and games will be played. Watch the Vestnik for more details. She also stated that the Youth Club will have a Lock-in on March 18.

49, Rowena Reports on Quarterly Meeting Lodge

Dear Members and Friends, SPJST Lodge No. 49, Rowena held its first quarterly meeting on February 3, 1993 at the Lodge Hall at 7:30 p.m.

Ten members and two visitors were present. All officers were in attendance.

President Elizabeth Walther presided over the business meeting. A letter from the West Texas Rehabilitation Center of Abilene and San Angelo, expressing their thanks for our $25 contribution, was read.

Eddie Mae Huebner, financial secretary for 1992, gave her financial report as did the chairmen of the various funds.

All reports were approved. The books were audited by Phyllis and Craig Teplicek.

Members were reminded that the District Four Spring Meeting will be held in Lubbock on April 18th.

The possibility of holding a District Czech Day was also discussed. Anyone within the District may submit their ideas for such an occasion to their district officers or District Four President Elizabeth Walther. Her address is P.O. Box 372, Rowena, Texas 76875.

District Four Rest Home Director Emil Havlak reported that all is well within the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes.

District Four Director Stanley Broz reported on directives from the Supreme Lodge.

The membership elected Connie Havlak as Youth Leader and Nancy Schwertner as her assistant.

Door prizes were won by Nancy Schwertner and Eddie Mae Huebner.

Both donated the money to the Birthday Club. For winning the attendance prize, Lula Marecek won an SPJST cap and Pauline Schiller received a plastic SPJST mug. Eugene Scharer's name was drawn for the large revolving attendance prize; Caroline Kvapil's name was drawn for second prize. Neither were in attendance, therefore the money goes back into the "pot" until the next meeting.

The next meeting will be on May 5th at the lodge hall. President Walther adjourned the meeting and served a delicious beef stew, fresh bread and butter and cake.

49, Rowena Hosts Flea Market and Quilt Show Lodge

Dear Members and Friends, SPJST Lodge No. 49, Rowena held a community flea market and quilt show on Saturday, March 6th. Many beautiful quilts were shown. Several booths were also set up by those selling antiques.

The lodge served sausage and sauerkraut sandwiches, kolaches, chocolate cake, coffee and tea. The ladies participating in the kitchen were Eddie Mae Huebner, Flora Lisso, Pauline Shiller, Elizabeth Urbanek, and Lula Marecek.

Everyone enjoyed the day visiting with friends and old acquaintances.

Dear Members and Friends, The regular monthly meeting of Holland SPJST was held on Sunday, March 7th at 2 p.m. Brother Harold Rohde called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence was held for departed members.

Brother Glen Latham read the minutes of the previous meeting and gave all committee reports that were turned in to him. All were doing a fine job. Brother Glen also read thank you's from the L. V. Allison and Edd Spinn families.

Rick Benner proposed Charles Ray Kohring as a new member and he was accepted.

The upcoming District II meeting on Sunday, March 28 was discussed. Brother Rohde stated that the district officers will meet with the lodge officers to finalize plans. The lodge will serve turkey and dressing with the other lodges from the district responsible for the salads and sweets. Glenda Liles will be in charge of registration on the day of the district meeting, reporting to Arleen Mayeux.

We hope to see all of the lodges from District II at Holland on Sunday, March 28.

Rick Benner made a motion, seconded by Johnny Rolack, that we have an Easter egg hunt after our meeting on April 4, 1993. Brother Benner stated that this would be from ages zero to whatever. Motion carried.

Johnny Rolack moved that the meeting adjourn. The motion was seconded

by Harold Kurtz.

Meeting attendees celebrating birthdays during the month were Glen Latham and Harold Kurtz.

Special guests included Bob Shoemaker, Bell County Commissioner, Henrietta Miller, Superintendent of the Home Economics Division, Donald Mersiovsky, Superintendent of the Rabbit Division, Harry Bauerschlag, Past president of the Bell County Youth Board, and Willie Kohutek, SPJST District II Director. Recognition was given to all Holland Boosters and all youth in attendance. More than 250 individuals attended this special function.

Dear Members , Several of our members were missing from our meeting last Monday. I guess that the rainy weather had a lot to do with it. After the Pledge of Allegiance, the minutes were read and correspondence from Scarborough Fair and the Supreme Lodge was read.

Committee Reports The following committees gave their reports: The Entertainment Committee report was given by Sister Wanda Petr.

The Sunshine Committee Report was given by Sister Bessie Tydlaska. She reported that sympathy cards had been sent to the Bill Thornton family, Rose Hackworth, William Vita, Dorothy Zaidle and the Edward Carpenter family.

The following received get well cards: Emil Petr, Gene Sims, John Retchek, Judy Green, Teresa Gaiser, Stacy Athas, Mary Marcell, Raymond Reznik, and Chris Gaiser. Baby card congratulations went to Chad and Tara Cloutman, to grandparents, Justine and Doug Yeager, David Andreason and great-grandparents Sid and Justine Pokladnik.

It's a new baby girl to love.

The House Committee Report was given by Brother Mike Frnka. He reported on the cost estimate of cabinet and counter repair and floor repair.

Brother Adolph Salac reported on the roof situation. After much discussion, repairs will be made.

The Special Committee Report was given by Sister Salac.

Youth Leader Bessie Petr delivered the youth report. She said that the young people had met last Monday and that they were planning their Easter party.

The teens will be meeting at a later date.

Sister Wanda Petr delivered the Dallas-Ennis Fraternal Council Report. She reported a good turn out in Ennis at Lodge No. 25. Their next meeting will be April 12 at the Czech Club.

Sister Bessie Petr reported that the Czech Culture group would be meeting on April 26th at our lodge.

F.A.C. Faye Rejcek reported on dues sent in.

Martha Frnka gave her report on the Living Memorial Fun. She reported on recent contributions.

Brother Emil Petr (who, by the way, looked great after being confined to many days of rest and recuperation) reported on hall rentals.

Brother John Jones also gave his usual good bar report.

Coming Events Remember the March 20 "Spring Cleaning Dance" with music by the Mynarciks.

The Vrazels will be providing good music for the dance on April 3.

On April 17th, the Kovanda Band will be here. Remember, you heard them at the State Fair.

Also—there's more—place your kolache orders with Evelyn at 352-5295 soon because April 6-7 is when the bake sale happens.

On April 14th, we will be cleaning the hall. Be ready to start at 9:30 a.m. or any time thereafter, to donate your time and efforts to make your lodge shine.

On April 25th, the Third District will be meeting here. The menu will include fried chicken, mashed potatoes, tossed salad, green beans, rolls, coffee or tea and dessert. The ladies of the lodge are asked to bring a dessert to be served.

Our program is progressing steadily and to date a total of 3,483 pairs of eye glasses have been turned in to the Houston Eye Center.

Defensive Driving Course at Lodge 88, Houston AARP

Has your three-year auto premium reduction run out yet?

It's time that you take a look at your last driver's class.

This program is for persons 50 years of age or older that they may take to apply towards a reduction in their insurance premium.

The next class will be April 15-16 for four hours each day.

You do not have to be a member of AARP or SPJST to enroll. The fee is $8 per student, payable the morning of April 15.

Dear Members and Friends, Our meeting yesterday was called to order by our president, Brother Jerry Milan.

He made welcome our guest, Jackie Tandy.

Our youth member, Melanie Mason, led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. We all remained standing for a moment of silence for our deceased brothers, Robert J. Blake, Louis Vitasek and Sister Mary Janacek. May they rest in peace.

First of all, Brother Milan wanted to thank all those members who do so much and put in so many long hours to keep our facility on the move. The minutes were read by Sister Mary Renfro and the treasurer's report was delivered

by Sister Anna Johnson. Both were approved as read.

An "expression of thanks" was read from the Merlick family along with a beautiful thank you card and note from Sister Eva Dockery to Sister Mary Renfro and all others who helped to prepare a wonderful dinner on Sunday, March 7 for her mother, Sister Maria Prill, who celebrated her 83rd birthday. The tables were decorated; balloons were all around—and everyone enjoyed the party.

May you have many more.

As of this writing, I just learned that Sister Prill has been taken ill with pneumonia and admitted to the hospital. All of us wish her a speedy recovery.

Brother Jerry, Sisters Mary Renfro, Anna Johnson and Rose Steinman attended the Local Lodge Workshop at Lodge 177, Academy on March 13 and nothing but praise for Laurie Moore, the guest speaker, who did a superb job.

Brother Jerry read us the guide lines of the new lodge incentive program and explained them to us.

Heard the food was great as was the hospitality. I was sorry that I didn't get to attend, but got quite a few messages sent to me.

Looks like it will be a while before I am back to normal, but at least the past week I've been getting around.

Plans will be made to present Sister Angelina Polasek her $1,000 for reaching the age of 96.

Brother Tal Milan reported that the Youth Club was planning a trip to Fossil Rim at Glen Rose, and that all the youth received a big thank you for the good clean-up job that they have been doing.

Our next meeting falls on Easter Sunday, April 11. We will, along with Sokol, have our annual Easter Picnic, as

in the past two years, at the hall. Each family is asked to bring a dozen colored eggs. Prizes will be given for special prize eggs. Bring a food item of your choice. Games will be played. We extend our sincere sympathy to Sister Anna Johnson on the loss of her brother-in-law in Louisiana. May he rest in peace.

Happy Birthday was sung to Sisters Mila Milan and Carrie Milan. Everyone joined in on the singing and in enjoying the good food and birthday cakes.

We didn't have the list for our door prize drawing at this meeting, so we will have two drawings on April 11.

177, Academy Reports on March Meeting

Dear Members and Friends, The March 10th meeting was called to order by President Otis Beck.

Following the Pledge of Allegiance, members remained standing in memory of our departed member, Phil Weadock.

All officers were present except Vice President Bobby Fritz and Treasurer Josie Tomastik.

Secretary Kathy Fritz read the minutes of the last meeting, which were approved as read. All committee reports were also read and approved. Thank you cards were read from the Weadock Family, J. C. Johnson and Youth Fair Recipients. SPJST Lodge 177 participated this year in the Youth Fair Auction which was held in Belton. Our lodge donated more than $400 which helped three of our local young people. Helen Bland reported that her niece, Katy Hutka, won the Grand Champion in the Market Swine Division.

Libbie Bartek reported that a sympathy card was mailed to Mrs. Joseph Vadney and family, the Robert Nault family and Mr. and Mrs. Chester Green. A get well card was also mailed to J. C. Johnson. Otis Beck reported that his stepson was in the hospital and had heart surgery.

Otis also informed the membership of Jean Driska's death.

J. C. Johnson reminded the members of the Local Lodge Workshop which was scheduled for March 13th at our lodge and also of the District Two Spring Meeting, which is scheduled for March 28 at Lodge 80, Holland.

Members celebrating birthdays during the month were then recognized. They are: Rick and Marcie Beck and son John Otis Beck, Josie Tomastik, Rosie Lee Weadock, Theresa Baca, Libbie Bartek and Mary Ann Summers.

We were proud to have five new members written into our lodge at this meeting. Those voted on and accepted are: Vivian D. Mitchell, Brenda and Darrell Wolf and their two children, Brandy and Tiffany.

Our next meeting will be on April 14th. Please mark your calendar and join us at our next meeting.

200, Bruceville-Eddy Reports on March Meeting and Social Lodge

On March 3, 1993, President Bob Miracle opened the business meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Under old business, we discussed the Scholarship Fun Fish Fry to be held on April 16, at the Old Eddy Fire Station beneath the water tower. Bob also announced that there was a donation jar at the end of the food line if anyone wanted to donate to the scholarship fund. A total of $30 was contributed (TERRIFIC). Then, Bob asked if anyone was interested in taking a Czech language course and to let him know and that he had all of the particulars.

• Under new business, George Pavelka had an inspiring talk about insurance needs which generated a tremendous amount of interest during the social.

Under the Financial Secretary's report, the lodge voted to accept six new members and two transfers. They are as follows: Alton H. Deviney, Nancy C. Deviney, Allen I. Gatewood, Allison N. Gatewood, Hunter G. Odle, Larry A. Posey, C. J. Wilde and Mary Ann Wilde.

A great big "WELCOME" from Lodge 200 to each and everyone. At .this rate, we will be making our goal of 200 members by 1994. Our membership now stands at 91 active and six paid up. Harvey LaFlamme is already making plans for our lodge home. Now that's confidence.

President Bob Miracle and Financial Secretary Earl Soudelier presented a 50year SPJST membership pin to Edith Davidson of Granger, Texas. Edith is Lodge 200's first 50-year pin recipient.

"Congratulations," Edith, on a welldeserved honor. Edith's entire family was there to witness the presentation, along with one sister from Granger and The Grove.

A motion was then made to adjourn the meeting and begin our quarterly social. A meal of turkey a la King and rice was cooked by Harvey LaFlamme.

Thanks, Harvey, it was great.

Lodge 200 is blessed to have such a good cook as a member.

Our next meeting will be on April 7, 1993 at the Eddy City Hall. Please come out and enjoy the good fellowship.

Worth Ladies Circle Reports on Activities Fort

The Ladies Circle meeting on March 9th was called to order by President marie Tesar after which the Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Guests Mary Pavey, Anne Polk and Clara Lee Blacha were welcomed. New members Elizabeth Gregory and Beulah La Bate were introduced. We're always happy to increase our membership.

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was also filed and read.

The Sunshine Chairman reported on cards sent, which included sympathy cards to the families of Bill Kosarek and Robert Blake. A moment of silence was observed in their memory. It was also

reported that Eleanor Svacek's brother, Mr. Marek, had passed away. A "thank you" note from Lodge No. 92 for the $200 donation was also read.

An update on our membership booklet is being prepared. Included will be a list of monthly hostesses with possible changes through the year. Martha Durham hopes to have the booklet ready to give out at our next meeting. Plans for a money-making project were discussed briefly and will be followed up in the future.

Hostesses for April will be Inez Krivanek, Justina Chaloupka, Louise Oujesky and Rose Jaworski.

Birthday greetings were sung to Maria Prill, Catherine Kosarek, Rose Jaworski, Justine Chaloupka and Sisto Herrera.

Door prizes went to Anna Juran, Marie Tesar, Anne Schneider, Millie Wruble, Lorenda Manasco and Elizabeth Gregory.

Florence Greer gave the closing prayer, after which the meeting adjourned with 37 ladies and seven men present. Plenty of good food was enjoyed by all. This was followed by game time.

Circle of Czech Women Report on Meeting Dallas

Our March meeting was called to order by President Bertha Podhrasky.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and we remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of Frances Vita, Aunt of Liddie Pavelka.

Bertha welcomed 37 members and nine male guests.

We had a speaker, Roland Gillman, who spoke on how to pack for traveling in Europe. He gave some helpful hints and also presented each member with a nice eye shadow compact.

Correspondence was read by Evelyn Trojacek, including a "thank you" from Arnold Vrla for our contributions to the Sister City Student Exchange Fund.

President Bertha Podhrasky suggested that everyone think of a money making project and bring suggestions to the April meeting.

A motion was voted on by the members to raise dues to $5 annually, starting January 1994.

The Sunshine Committee's Liddie Pavelka sent "get well" cards to Evelyn Cechan, Emil Petr and Lillian Moran.

The Sunshine Committee's Libbie Elsik also sent a "get well" card to Stanley Patak.

A donation was made in memory of Fannie Konakovsky by Ruth and Emil Chmelar.

A lunch donation was also made from Nita and Frank Houzvicka.

Esther Cunningham donated a jar of jelly beans for a contest in which members guessed the number of jelly beans.

Theresa Carper was the winner of the jar of jelly beans.

Announcements The Czech Culture Society will meet on April 26 at SPJST Lodge No. 84.

The Fraternal Council will meet on

April 12 at the Catholic Czech Club.

The soccer team of Brno, Czechoslovakia will arrive on April 2. President Bertha Podhrasky has asked for fruit donations for the soccer team. Please bring fruit to the April meeting.

The Dallas-Brno Sister Cities Student Exchange Benefit will be held at Sokol on Sunday, April 4, 1993. Dinner will be served at 12 noon. The menu will include goulash, dumplings, salad and dessert. Cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children, ages 6 to 12. The Lord Mayor of Brno and the soccer team will be in attendance.

A program will showcase the artistry of the SMU Czech Master Musicians, Dallas Czech Singers, and the Dallas Czech Concert Orchestra.

Hostesses were Mildred Chervenka, Ruth Chmelar, Mary Sykora, and Mary Janousek.

Thanks to Anne Zvolanek for the camellias that she donated to the March birthday ladies, namely, Marie Kalkus, Mary Sykora, Mary Sebestik, Adell Vlk, Annie Staglik, and Theresa Carper.

Lillian Moran read a poem titled "To Those I Love and Those Who Love Me." President Bertha Podhrasky asked for help to make dumplings and kolaches after the April meeting for the sister city benefit dinner.

"Thanks" to Dorothy Reznik for taking notes of the last meeting while I was recuperating from surgery.

Valley Czech Heritage Society to Meet at Rowena SPJST Hall Concho

The Runnels, Concho, and Tom Green Counties of the Concho Valley Czech Heritage Society will meet on March 28th at 2:30 p.m. in the SPJST Hall in Rowena. The presidency vacated by the sudden death of our President Robert Mikeska, a week after our last meeting, will be filled by Vice President Louis Kokes.

A new vice president will be elected since the Society had not elected a second vice president.

President Kokes and Secretary Nancy Day are preparing an interesting program for the meeting.

Bring old family photographs, records, or letters to display and discuss.

Visitors are welcome, as well as new applicants for membership in our local chapter.

A covered dish meal will be served after the meeting. Please mark your calendars so that you won't forget.

Collapse of Communist Regime Opens Door for Cultural Exchange by Susanne Gilmer Stibolt With the collapse of the Communist regime in Czechoslovakia, the curtain opened for cultural exchange with the United States for the first time in decades. The far-reaching impact of these events became apparent in Dallas when several phenomenal Czech musicians arrived to enter the Artist Certificate Program at Southern Methodist University (SMU) in 1991.

The Artist Certificate Program is a two-year course of study for musicians who demonstrate high potential for a prominent performance career. Thirty students from all over the world are selected to participate in the SMU curriculum and in public performances and contests.

Five students from the Prague Academy have made a great impression on students, teachers, professional musicians and citizens throughout the State of Texas. Their intense dedication and love of music inspire all who encounter them. Karel Kosarek, Jitka Drobilkova, Stepanka Kutmanova, Petr Sporcl and Pavel Sporel share incredible talent with deep humility. Their ages range from 19 to 25 years. The students have won awards in many prestigious contests, including th Munich String Competition and Tchaikovsky Competition.

Pianist Karel Kosarek's performance of Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Corpus Christi Symphony before an "awed audience" was enthusiastically reviewed by the Caller-Times newspaper. Karel won the Corpus Christi International Piano and String Contest, the SMU Concerto Competition and the Tuesday Musicale Competition in San Antonio. He is from the town of Holesov and enjoys visiting with relatives from Ennis, Texas.

Many Czech-America families have welcomed the SMU students into their homes.

Jitka Drobilkova stated that she is most appreciative of the hospitality shown to her by Americans during her

first Christmas away from home. Jitka is a pianist with an extensive repertoire, including chamber music, which she performs with her partner, cellist Stepanka Kutmanova. Both are from Trebon and they have performed together for many years. At SMU, they performed the Brahms Cello Sonata in F, Franck Sonata, Beethoven A Major Cello Sonata and Schnittke Cello Sonata and received standing ovations. Stepanka performs with the SMU orchestra as a first cellist.

Petr and Pavel Sporcl are brothers from Ceske Budiavyovice. Peter, a gifted cellist, performed the Dvorak Cello Concerto to win the SMU Concerto Competition and was a recent soloist with the SMU Orchestra. Pavel is a violinist currently performing with orchestras in the United States and the Czech Republic. In additon to being the SMU Concerto Contest winner, he won the Prague City Competition and recently took third place in the Munich String Competition.

Several students have participated in the Czech Orchestra under the direction of Cyrill Pokladnik. They have enjoyed their sojourn to Dallas and think the Meyerson Symphony Center is fantastic.

This is the final semester of study for the five Czech students in the SMU Artist Certificate program. Many other remarkable students from the Prague Academy would like to attend SMU next fall. Because there is a great discrepancy between the U.S. dollar and the Czech crown, it is necessary for the musicians to obtain additional financial support. A special endowment fund has been set up to cover transportation costs for new Czech students. Lodge 107, Floresville Youth Club Reports on March Meeting Dear Vestnik Readers, On March 14, 1993, Lodge 107 was called to order at 2:15 p.m. by Stacey Bielfield, who also led the group in the Pledge of Allegiance. There were 12 members, five adults and one guest present. The guest was Reagan Stanley.

We decided to go on a bowling trip during spring break. We will go on March 17th, St. Patrick's Day. We will meet in Pleasanton at 4:30 p.m. Don't forget to wear green—or, "OUCH!" you will get a pinch.

Youth members enjoyed having birthday cake, soda and snacks. After the meeting, we skated and enjoyed the cool weather outdoors. We played football and other field games.
