Lodge 47, Seaton Hosts State Straignt Domino Tournament Floresville team takes top honors by State FAC Frank Klinkovsky Lodge No. 47, Seaton hosted the Ninth Annual Straight Domino Tournament on Saturday, March 6. A total of 48 enthusiastic players, representing 11 lodges and all parts of the state, participated in the event. Welcoming players to the tournament were Lodge 47 President Wallace Jez, Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and State FAC Frank Klinkovsky. District I Director Andrew Vavra and District II Director Willie Kohutek and District VII Director Bob Bayer showed their support by also being in attendance. After the first three games were played, Lodge 47 members served players a delicious noon meal. After lunch, five more games were played by all participants. The top seven teams advanced to the playoffs. It was necessary to have a playoff as there were ties for first, second, third and fourth places. In the end, the following winners emerged: First Place Team Anton Svoboda and Joe Pavliska Lodge No. 107, Floresville Second Place Team Kenneth Marek and John Paul Chervenka Lodge No. 24, Cyclone Third Place Team Ruth Wuensche and Aleen Gaida Lodge No. 48, Beyersville Fourth Place Team Dana Glaser and Joe Kohut Lodge No. 47, Seaton First, Second and Third Place Team players each received trophies. The Fourth Place Team players each received a set of SPJST dominoes. The Society would like to express its sincere thanks to all of those members who supported this tournament both on the local lodge level and on the state level. If you were a player, then you know that there was plenty of fun and fraternalism to go around. A big "thank you" is also extended to Lodge No. 47, Seaton, for hosting the tournament and especially to the kitchen crew of Lodge 47 for the outstanding job they did. Special thanks are also in order for Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar for his help in facilitating the tournament.

"If you were a player, then you know that there was plenty of fun and fraternalism." Players express their thanks to Lillian Sakewitz of Lodge 29, Taylor and Evelyn Seith of Lodge 66, Waco, who came along to cheer for their team and then offered to fill in and play in the tournament to make it an even number of teams. At this time, I would like to make an announcement regarding next year's "Straight" and "42" domino tournaments. After some discussion, it has been decided that lodges will not be limited as to the number of teams that they may send to the state tournament. We would suggest, however, that all lodges have a practice night during which they will be able to coordinate their teams and decide who will be playing with who. In turn, we will request that they mail the State FAC the number and names of contestants that will be participating. Thank you for your attention. We look forward to your continued support and participation in 1994. —SPJST-
