Grass-Roots Teamwork at Workshop The recent local lodge officers' workshop was a prime example of grass-roots teamwork. Everyone present was given the opportunity to participate and share ideas for finding more and better ways to meet the needs of our members.

A PANEL OF CONVENTION Standing Committee Chairmen discussed the function of each committee, L to R: Angeline Kristinek, Publication Committee; Ben Jarma, Insurance Committee; Monta Foster, Finance Committee; and Mildred Holeman, By-Law Committee.

The theme of the workshop was "Meeting The Needs Of Our Members." The workshop was structured to share and gather information in line with our organization's mission statement, "to serve our members and improve their quality of life." From time to time, an organization needs to take time to listen to its local leaders to hear their ideas on what they feel the organization needs to be doing...to get a sense of direction for the organization. During the morning session, the assembly was divided into 22 separate workteams. Each team selected a captain and was asked to come up with new ideas on what the SPJST could do for its members on the lodge, district and state level. They were asked to list their dreams for their lodge and to come up with new programs and activities they would like to see in their lodge. They were then asked to refine their list to 5 new ideas and to select the one best new idea. The attendees were then assembled and each of the 22 team captains was given time to discuss their best ideas. Many outstanding ideas were enthusiastically presented for further development. We have assembled these ideas and are sharing them with you at the end of this report. Local lodges ara encouraged to use the team brainstorming process to consider implementing some of the new ideas. Those leaders present at the workshop should be able to lead the type of team approach used at the workshop in their lodges. There is a wealth of talent in our local lodges and we encourage you to have your own team sessions to develop new programs for your lodge. Use this approach to find out what your members would like and then decide how to implement the new programs. The changing times have created challenges for our Society. By utilizing input from our members, and relying on a team approach at all levels, we can meet those challenges. I think that someone out there in your lodge has the solution to your biggest problem if we can but tap into the ideas and talents.
