Editor COMMENTS

Only favorable reports are being received from the recent local lodge officers' workshop sponsored by Supreme Lodge held Saturday, February 29, 1992 at Lodge No. 18 in Elgin.

All indications reveal that the 2 1/2hour "brainstorming session" proved to be a huge success.

Letters received for publication show that the attendees were well satisfied with the workshop, the hospitality of Lodge No. 18, and the food served.

Ironically, everyone seemed to enjoy it enough to be willing to stay a little longer at the session. This is rather contrary to many occasions when attendees at functions are eager to leave for home rather early. This alone proves that it must have been an informative and enjoyable session.

Supreme Lodge Secretary-Treasurer Leonard Mikeska is to be complimented for his foresight in originating the idea of this program at the workshop for the entire day.

For the first time various officers and members of lodges seemed to have fallen right into the spirit of this occasion and brought forth numerous constructive ideas to be discussed at the workshop on how lodges and members can help themselves and other lodges prosper by implementing ideas that have been proven to work.

There have been comments made that some of these ideas discussed at the workshop are important enough to our organization that they should be discussed at our future Supreme Lodge meetings.

The lodge members, in their discussions that day, seemed to have brought ideas and questions on how lodges and their membership could help each other and our Society, working with Supreme Lodge, to create interest in our SPJST and local lodge system.

The letters indicate that there was much interest displayed during the entire session in a brotherly and sisterly fashion, with efforts being made to help solve each other's problem(s).

Examples were also presented of how problems were solved at various lodges which might help other lodges solve theirs.

A real display of fraternalism working among lodges was exemplified when Lodge No. 172 in Pasadena paid back a loan of $1,000.00 to Lodge Academy No. 177 which had made the loan to Pasadena lodge in 1982 that really needed help at that time. Presently, Pasadena lodge is well established and could financially return the $1,000.00 loan to its original brothers and sisters of Academy lodge.

Brothers and Sisters: Your editor feels that this proves what members and lodges working toward a common cause can accomplish and our common cause for all of its lodges is the prosperity and further advancement of our SPJST fraternal benefit lodge life insurance system! ***

It has been stated in this column before about the importance of our four SPJST standing committees that are elected to serve four years from convention to convention. They are, of course, the By-Law, Insurance, Finance and Publication Committees and

serve our membership to consider changes submitted to them by districts, lodges and members in the time before each convention and, in that manner, serve to shorten the time required for our convention by considering proposals submitted to each committee and thus doing much of the detail work which would have to be done in the convention itself.

The Insurance Committee has just held a meeting recently and it is anticipated that they have had suggestions and considered them and approved them on how to best improve our insurance sales and also that they have arrived with ideas of their own which will serve the same purpose for our Society.

One of the uppermost things that our committees, membership and every one of us must consider is -- what will be good and beneficial for our Society and disregard whether it will or will not benefit any one member or group of members. Our Society was and is organized to benefit the entire membership without regard to whether it will benefit any certain member or not.

The Finance Committee has the problem of considering the financial results that will occur in our Society pertaining to the finances of our organization and how each expenditure fits into the overall financial picture or status of our Society in its profit and expenses totals for each future year. This committee has a very important consideration of expenses to make.

The Publication Committee has the important function of dealing with the publication of the weekly organ, the Vestnik (Herald), and overseeing that the membership is well informed, satisfied with its contents and that the editor and the publication work for the good and advancement of our SPJST Society.

The By-Law Committee is, very probably, the most important committee concerned with the future conduct of our Society in the next four years and, in this case, until the 1996 Convention.

Your editor would like to call your attention to the letter from Supreme Lodge Legal Advisor Sidney Kacir pertaining to this committee in this issue. His letter is rather precise and thought-provoking and points out the importance of submitting changes and improvements to that committee for their consideration and time is rather short. The changes they make are changes we will live by for the next four years if they are accepted at the convention. One thing which is very important if you feel strongly about some change or improvement is the fact that you must submit it to the committee and if they do not accept it, you can argue the subject on the convention floor; however, if it isn't submitted then you have no chance of any discussion on your subject.

As mentioned before, please read Brother Kacir's letter over a couple of times because it is exactly what our Society represents; ours is a Society in which every member has a right to submit his or her ideas for consideration by the rest of their fellow members (through delegates) in the convention. This is about as democratic as an organization can be. Ours is not a case of where directions are formulated by a few self-appointed executives who make the laws and rules which govern the organization and send them to policy/certificate holders to take them or leave them like it or not. If you accept the conditions, including the fine print, you live by those conditions without any convention to change them later on.

The Convention has full and sole power to act for the entire organization, and does so by majority vote (except it requires a two-thirds vote to change a bylaw).

At each convention, each district nominates one person to be on the By-law Committee for the next four years. This committee should include the most judicious persons available -- those who have a special interest in the rules of the Society.

Every member of the SPJST, whether a delegate or not, has the right to make a by-law recommendation or change. The member should put the recommendation/change in writing, sign it and deliver (mail) it to the Secretary of the ByLaw Committee, Mrs. Leona Macha, 501 Shropshire, El Campo, Texas 77437.

THE DEADLINE FOR SUBMITTING BY-LAW RECOMMENDATIONS/CHANGES IS SIXTY (60) DAYS PRIOR TO CONVENTION. Mrs. Macha will then forward all recommendations/changes to the Vestnik for publication.

The By-Law Committee reviews each and every recommendation/change, as well as its own recommendations, and then presents those it deems most beneficial to the Society to the Convention for adoption or refusal. The By-Law Committee will publish its recommendations in the Vestnik thirty (30) days prior to the convention. If a member's by-law recommendation/change is not included in the By-Law Committee's recommendations to the Convention, a delegate can present the by-law recommendation/change directly to the Convention for its adoption or refusal.

The by-laws are the roots of SPJST's foundation, and every person who is elected delegate has a say in changing the by-laws. Our Society is for the benefit of the members as a whole, and our Society cannot be and can never be for the benefit of any one or more individuals.

By-Laws -- You Can Make A Difference From

Dear Members: Our 26th Convention will start June 14, 1992, and I would like to take this opportunity to visit with you on some of the procedure highlights of our By-laws.

The members of this Society must be active workers in order for this Society to continue to grow and prosper as a fraternal benefit society. Federal law states we must operate under a lodge system. State law states we must operate under a representative form of government and that control ultimately must be vested in the membership. This control is exercised by the membership through their elected delegates' review, change and adoption of the By-laws at the convention.

In general, the constitution and/or by-laws of a society are the documents which contain its own basic rules, principally relating to the society itself as an organization.

Our By-laws contain the following: 1. Define the primary characteristics of our society, in such a way that our By-laws serve as the fundamental instrument which establishes the society; 2. Prescribe how our society functions; and 3. Include all rules that our society considers so important that they: (a) Cannot be changed without previous notice to the members and the vote of a specified large majority (a two-thirds vote), and (b) Cannot be suspended (with the exception of clauses that provide for their own suspension under specified conditions.)

Article 1 (e) of the SPJST By-laws states: "The word `by-laws' shall mean the laws adopted by the delegates at the convention, to control, administer and manage the affairs of the entire Society."

Taylor Lodge Hosted SPJST State Tarok Tournament - March 7, 1992 Lodge No. 29, Taylor, was the site for the 7th Annual Tarok Tournament.

There were 68 enthusiastic players from 14 lodges and 5 districts representing all parts of the state.

Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar welcomed the players and wished them "Good Luck." District II Director Willie E. Kohutek and District I Director Andrew Vavra were also recognized.

After 2 games were played a delicious noon meal was served by Lodge 29, Taylor. After the meal, 4 more games were played by everyone, after 6 rounds of play by everyone.

The winners were: 1st Place -- V.J. The Little Mr. and Miss SPJST Contest and the Mr. and Miss SPJST Competition will also take place at this meeting. Please contact District Youth Counselor Maxine Pavliska for more details if your youth should be interested in entering. The winners of the Mr. and Miss SPJST Competition will compete for the title at the State Convention.

Dear Members: The meeting of Lodge 20 was called to order. Everyone was asked to rise to the pledge to the American flag. All the officers were present.

We were honored to have two special guests, Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and State FAC Frank Klinkovsky.

A thank you note was read for the memorial for Carol Jean Jones.

Laura Spanel-Weber was congratulated for winning the 1992 T-Shirt Contest. She won in her age group and also was the GRAND PRIZE WINNER. Kelly Loessin will enter the Mr. SPJST Contest which will be held at the District II spring meeting.

Mr. Emil Naizer reported that the new food serving bar was built and completed by Rudy Hajda, Fred Strmiska and Gilbert Strmiska. We thank you all for a job well done.

Leslie Loessin reported on the workshop which was held in Elgin. It was attended by Norma Cavanaugh, Leslie Loessin and Rubie Loessin.

The baseball sign ups were held in our lodge hall.

It was voted to buy 50 new chairs for the upstairs of our lodge hall.

A motion was made and seconded to donate $15.00 to the project celebration Senior Class of 1992 after graduation party.

Our next meeting will be held on our regular meeting night on Monday, April 6 at 7:00 p.m. We will have a covered dish supper. All of our members are invited to attend. Drinks will be furnished. Members are asked to bring two covered dishes. Hope to see you there.

Sets Pace For Active Year First, thank you to everyone who participated in Lodge 24's Countywide Garage Sale on March 7. More than a thousand people from all over Central Texas attended the Saturday morning and afternoon event. We were especially pleased to welcome to Flag Hall many of our brothers and sisters from surrounding lodges. In conjunction with the countywide sale, the youth club conducted a bake sale and Lodge 24 hosted an SPJST information booth.

In recognition of March as National Nutrition Month, the Central Texas Dietetic Association was also on hand to conduct free nutrition analysis for shoppers.

IMF countywide sale, reported that a total of 28 paid vendors had participated in the event and that there was strong interest from both vendors and shoppers that Lodge 24 conduct future sales.

Youth Leader Shirley Ashcraft then announced that Saturday 's bake sale had generated approximately 8145 for future youth club activities. Rosamond Baker, kitchen manager, and Bernice Sebek, bar manager, also reported that their divisions had generated good profits for the lodge on sale day.

In other new business, plans for future community and fund-raising events were discussed. Vice President Carol Chervenka led discussion on a Lodge 24 President LaVerne Cabla Shoppers Dorothy and Leonard proposal that Lodge 24 host a barbecue and husband Jerry minding the Mikeska supported the youth bake cook-off and auction. Birthday celebrants cited at the March meeting included Doris Coots, Lorene Haisler, Scott Hudson, Randy Lesikar, Robert Macek and David Vanicek. Tracey Chervenka, whose WILBERT MIKESKA negotiates a deal with a customer. birthday was in February, was also recognized at the March meeting. On the anniversary list for March are Bernice and Joe Sebek, who celebrate their 45th anniversary this month.

On the sick list for March was Calvin Andel. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Following the business session of the meeting, John Thomas, Jr., a candidate in the Precinct Three county commissioner's race, briefly addressed lodge members.

The lodge meeting of Ellinger SPJST Lodge 51 was held March 15, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ellinger Fire Station.

Twelve members and District I Director Andrew Vavra and his wife were present. We were happy to have the Vavras with us.

President Ludvig Kocian called the meeting to order. John Mikulenka read he minutes of our previous meeting which were approved as read. He also gave a favorable treasurer's report.

We had two members who received their 50-year pin. They are Odis Divin and Mrs. Evelyn Barrett. The pins were mailed to them since they were not able to be present at the meeting.

Mr. Vavra spoke to the members about the upcoming convention to be held in Victoria. Mr. Gus Hruska will represent our lodge at the convention.

Mr. Vavra also spoke about the operation of SPJST lodges.

Happy birthday wishes were extended to Mrs. Ludvig Kocian who was unable to attend due to illness.

After the meeting adjourned a delicious lunch was served.

The next meeting will be held June 22 at 8 o'clock. Members are asked to bring sandwiches or cake, etc. for a light lunch.

I will only mention a few things about our meeting because Secretary Mildred Holeman will send in the complete minutes. We had a very good attendance; although the weather wasn't the best and we have some illness among our members.

The deceased members in our lodge were Mary Pulley, a good birthday club member, Addie Sustala -- her, husband, Pete died in 1991; Arnold Cmajdelka, and Edwin Lacina. These fine people will all be missed.

Our secretary, Mildred Holeman, was sick and couldn't attend the meeting, so 1st Vice President Marceil Malak read the minutes, etc.

Communications were read from the following survivors: Edwin Lacina family, Douglas Pulley family, Cmajdelka family and Pearl Hanka, Douglas Pulley, Karl Lindemann and Leander Pflughaupt thanked the members for the cards and flowers while they were in the hospital.

Shirley Stonaker gave a profitable financial report.

FAC Homer Alexander gave a synopsis of his work. The Defensive Driving Course is April 9 and 10. Keep in contact with Homer.

Youth Leader Barbara Linney has an Easter party on April 11 and on March 21, the youth will be going to I-Max Theatre. It's a trip on a volcano. I've been to see the Blue Planet and believe me it's worth the money. The 10-mile Marathon is next. Donate to this cause-Marie and Barbara would appreciate this.

Entertainment Chairman Viola Cox gave a good report with a report of $7,900 in February 1992. On March 28 is a battle dance -- polkatime with the Moon Riders and the Texas Dutchment. April 4 is a big dance with Gus Lindemann's Orchestra; do try to make this dance, because this band is excellent. On April 11 is a battle dance -polkatime with Donnie Vavra and Bobby Jones.

Vice President Tom Marsh gave the Men's Club report due to the absence of President Ed Miculka. The men repaired leaks on the roof and replaced ceiling tiles in the dining room and ballroom, washed walls, returned air grilles in the ballroom, painted the condensing unit at rear of kitchen, painted the popcorn machine, painted the guard house, cleaned up the shrubbery in the front bed and many other -nii,or details. This work was done on rcoruary 18 by 18 members of the Men's Club. I hope all of our lodge members appreciate this good-will gesture. Tom Marsh also reported for he Auditing Committee - they found )ooks in order. Chairman Karl indemann gave a very short report for he board. Karl is still recuperating.

We wish to apologize for not getting our report of the February 12 meeting of Danbury Lodge 139 in earlier. At the time of the meeting this reporter, along with her daughters Mary Anne Smith and Carolyn Wilson, was visiting temples, mosques, the Taj Mahal, and several national parks while touring northern India. Part of the travel was done on elephants, and it was a wonderful experience.

At the February 12 meeting, the lodge had as guests District V President Evelyn Mikeska and District V Youth Counselor Marie Stayton. Besides the regular monthly business, further plans were made for the barbecue for lodge members to be held March 21 at the Angleton KC Hall.

The March 11 meeting got underway with Wesley Baldwin presenting the flag and leading in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Recitation of the SPJST Youth Pledge followed.

Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar was welcomed to the meeting

by Lodge President Lonnie Lostak.

Brother Leshikar spoke on the importance of leadership training and the meaning of fraternalism. He held a question-and-answer session to clean up several points for the members.

Minutes were read by Secretary Lorenda Baldwin, and Treasurer Eloise Lostak gave her report. Vice President Monte Baldwin read correspondence and made several announcements.

A discussion was held on suggestions for changes in the SPJST bylaws. It was voted to present these changes to the Convention By-Law Committee for consideration.

Also passed was a motion to make a donation to a fund for Cynthia Binkley who is in need of pancreas and liver transplants.

The lodge voted to accept for membership any other area lodge which would like to merge with Lodge 139.

Final plans were made for the lodge barbecue, and it was announced that there has been a good response to the invitations which were sent to all members. Sisters Katherine Chovanec and Emillia Lubojacky will be honored as members whose insurance policies have matured.

At 2:00 p.m. Sunday, March 1, 1992 President Dennis Hermis called on monthly meeting to order. We had 28 members and 3 guests present at this meeting and all stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

Roll call of officers revealed all were present, except Youth Leader Elizabeth Hermis.

Under correspondence Secretary Alice Jochen read an acknowledgement of sympathy card from the Elroy Muenster family.

The financial secretary/treasurer report was read by Rosie Tumis.

Board of trustees and bar reports were given by Henry Hermis.

All committee reports were given.

New applicant accepted for this month was David Lee Wollom.

Brother Robert Kieschnick was the sales representative.

Visitors recognized were Joe Gambil and Billy Edmonds, a friend of our

Capsule attendance prize drawing for $30.00 went unclaimed due to the absence of Gay K. Stacy and Leta Voytek. The next month's prize will be $40.00.

Lodge 155 Reports

Austin

The last meeting, February 2 was held in the home of Raymond and Alice Prasatik which was well attended.

District II sales representative meeting in Taylor on February 10 at SPJST hall, was held by Gene McBride. Raymond and Alice Prasatik attended.

The SPJST local officers' workshop was held in Elgin SPJST hall Saturday morning and afternoon on February 29. This lodge had the Clarence Boriskis, Gary Chmelir, and the Raymond Prasatiks attending. This was a very fruitful and very well attended workshop which encouraged everyone.

Delicious varieties of kolaches and coffee were enjoyed by all, and later a catered savory dinner was served. This large gathering was divided in groups of 5 or 6 and ideas of SPJST improvements of projects, attendance numbers, helping the elderly to attend meetings, how to approach a prospective member, etc. These were recorded on huge sheets which were exhibited after each leader gave specific points of interest.

Faith Community Church, 1800 Peyton Gin Road will be the site for our April 5 meeting and the following meetings unless otherwise notified.

They are held at 2:00 p.m. Peyton Gin Road is east of Research Blvd. We hope to have a good attendance. If in doubt call 472-1721.

Motion was made and carried that our lodge donate $100.00 to the Central Texas Lodge 29 of the Fraternal Order of Police Annual Benefit in which they support the Drug Abuse Program, the handicapped children and many other programs.

Kathy Fritz, secretary, talked to the membership about the workshop that was held in Elgin on February 29, 1992. She stated that it was very informative on ways to get the members interested in their lodge activities. She stated that in 1982 SPJST Lodge 172, Pasadena had asked local lodges for donations to help build their new lodge building. SPJST Lodge 177, Academy donated $1,000.00 in memory of their departed members. At the workshop in Elgin, Tennie Walla, treasurer, on behalf of Lodge 172, Pasadena presented SPJST Lodge 177, Academy with a check for $1,000.00 to help support our lodge. This is true fraternalism. It was decided that the $1,000.00 be used to repair the youth room.

DISTRICT II DYC Patsy Koslovsky spoke to the membership about hosting the District YAD on Sunday, July 12, 1992. Motion was made and carried that our lodge host the District YAD this year.

Kathy Fritz also informed the membership of the Raymond Jaramillo family from Cameron who lost their home and contents in a fire and did not have any insurance. She asked for any donations, clothing and household items.

Anyone who wishes to help, please notify Kathy for sizes and details. At a time like this, we need to help people in need. It will be greatly appreciated.

FAC J.C. Johnson discussed activities during the month and reminded members of the District II meeting to be held Sunday, March 15 at Seaton.

He also reminded everyone of the delegate meeting to be held March 27 at 7:00 p.m. at Seaton Star Hall. The lodge discussed the Easter egg hunt scheduled for April 18, 1992 at 2:00 p.m. which will be for the youth club members. Any adults who would like to help will be appreciated. Birthdays for the month are Mary Ann Summers, Libby Bartek, Theresa Baca, Rosie Lee Weadock, Regina and Renelle Wright.

Otis Beck, president of SPJST Lodge 177 called the meeting to order on March 11, 1992. The pledge was recited by the members. All officers were present and all reports were read and approved as read.

Libby Bartek reported that get well cards were mailed to Billy Joe Moore and Ronnie White.

One new member was written during the month of February which was Tommy Wall. We had four transfers to our lodge which were Wayne, Stephen, Hope and Mathew Hanusch. We wish to welcome these new members to our lodge.

Marsha Stevens, volunteer worker for Children's Miracle Network, speaking to the membership of SPJST Lodge 177 - Academy about the telethon to be held May 30-31 and the many ways the money is used to help sick children. Thank you, Marsha, this is true fraternalism.

Martha Stevens, volunteer worker from Children's Miracle Network, was a guest speaker and informed the membership about the telethon which will be May 30th and 31st. The national telethon was founded by Marie Osmond and John Schneider. The fund-

raiser benefits 160 hospitals for children in the U.S. and Canada. In 1986 Scott and White Hospital, Temple, Texas joined the Children's Miracle Network. Scott and White offers a full range of services for patients from birth to 18 years and the telethon donations support a variety of services including the children's play room, child life room, the continuity care clinic and many others. With the support of corporate sponsors, generous viewers and other telethon-related activities, CMNT has become the largest fundraiser of its kind. One hundred percent of money raised through the telethon stays in the local community to help hometown hospitals for children. Marsha stated that many people are most happy when most concerned about other people. She informed us of many different fund-raisers that our lodge may wish to sponsor in order to participate in the telethon. This will be discussed at our next meeting.

Our next meeting will be held April 8, 1992 at 7:30 p.m. Don't forget to bring "finger food" for our social. All members are invited to attend.

Lodge

Lodge 161 held its regular quarterly meeting on March 8, 1992, at 11:45 a.m. at Stage Stop Restaurant in Pleasanton with thirteen members and two guests, Leona Pivonka and Virginia Valchar, present.

Chairman Donald Valchar presided.

Everyone recited the Pledge of Allegiance. The table prayer was voiced by Ernest Spacek. A moment of silence was observed for a deceased member, Phyllis Miller.

Secretary-Treasurer Tillie Koch presented her reports. Our lodge had seven new members in 1991.

Jim Zezula gave the Auditing Committee report. Other members of the committee were Lydmil Ermis and Ernest Spacek.

New members accepted were Marion Pawelek and Milton Koch.

FAC Milton Koch distributed fraternal activities sheets and encouraged everyone to record all fraternal work monthly and return reports to him in March 1993.

Tillie Koch reported on the scholarship program changes and handed out applications.

Helen Zezula stated her son-in-law, James Lowak, was a $50.00 winner in the SPJST Antler Contest. Congratulations, James!

Bettie House mentioned the District VII meeting on April 5 at New Braunfels. She also stated that the Vestnik was requesting histories of the lodges from the last four years for the convention issue.

The group was very receptive concerning Bettie House's suggestion of recognizing birthdays and anniversaries at each meeting. Having a birthday on January 24 was Ernest Spacek.

Anniversaries in January were Vince and Leona Pivonka (January 24 - 53 years), and Ernest and Gussie Spacek (January 28 - 50 years). Celebrating March birthdays were Gussie Spacek (March 5) and Milton Koch (March 12).

Motion was made, seconded and carried that each meeting be rotated among the various restaurants. The next meeting will be June 14, 1992, at 11:45 a.m. at Juliano's Restaurant in Jourdanton.

From Lodge No. 183, Mid-Cities

Dear Members: There has been a long wet spell since I have written a newsletter -- people usually say a long dry spell, but the past year has been very wet. There are farmers who have not been able to harvest last year's cotton crop yet and it is time to plant this year's crop, and the weatherman is saying "more rain on the way." The frost on the morning of March 11 will hurt the fruit crop and also some of the wheat farmers are depending on for a living.

In my last letter, I wrote about things going from bad to worse since retiring from Bell Helicopter, then along came a friend and said: "cheer up things could be worse" --so--I cheered up and-- sure enough things got worse, but then that is a whole new story.

On February 29, Gracie and I attended the officers' workshop in Elgin.

Members of Elgin welcomed everyone and had a delicious meal for everyone.

The meeting was conducted in a very fraternal way and had a "mixing" of lodges with ideas that can help our Society in the future to grow and prosper.

With more input like this workshop, lodges can help each other and also have more communication with members from other lodges across Texas.

Everyone has ideas, but sometimes they need a little push to get them going. This is like the old Model "T" in the 20s and 30s when it wouldn't start, it got stuck in the mud or stalled on the road and everyone got out and gave it a shove until it started going again. I for one am glad our roads and highways are better now and cars are nicer and constructed better.

We were saddened to learn of the illness and death of Mydell Grochoske of Lodge 180, Burleson. I also had a good friend in Sons of Herman at Lodge 133 in Fort Worth who died and was buried on the same day; an uncle of mine died in January; and a neighbor at Cedar Creek and a cousin in February. Sometimes things like these comes in bunches. We would like to ask God's blessing on the deceased and comfort for their families.

To our Lodge 183 members: I wish o say that I have been elected to be your delegate to the convention in June, so I would urge everyone to read your Vestnik and give me your opinions on the change requests that are being published. Some of these may change the way SPJST operates in the future. I need some input because I will represent YOU at the convention.

No. 200, Eddy

On February 29, 1992 Lodge 200 was represented at the Officers' Workshop at Lodge 18 in Elgin, Texas by Bob Miracle, Earl Soudelier, Mary Soudelier, and Gene McBride. The day was enjoyed by everyone and we came back with a lot of new ideas and suggestions. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the Elgin Lodge 18 for their hospitality. They made us feel right at home.

On March 1, 1992 at 4:30 p.m. our monthly meeting was held at the Eddy City Hall. The biggest topic of discussion was the presentation of the charter to the lodge. It will be held at the Eddy High School Cafeteria on April 5, 1992 at 4:00 p.m. A barbecue meal with all the trimmings will be served.

We hope to see all our members attend. Also many dignitaries and guests from the district will be there. So come out and enjoy an evening of celebration with good friends.

The next business agenda was the acceptance of three new members, Albert J. Gonzales, Penny M. Gonzales and Wendell C. Wood. All the members and officers of Lodge 200 welcome you. We hope to see you at our monthly meeting at Eddy City Hall every first Sunday of the month at 4:30 p.m.

The next topic of discussion was about obtaining a U.S. Flag for use at our meetings. We also elected our delegate to the State Convention. He is our newly-elected president, Bob Miracle. Bob asked that at our next meeting, we discuss how we would like him to represent the lodge on the different by-law changes being voted on at the convention.

The meeting closed with a short discussion by Gene McBride on Annuities which is earning 7.1% and Universal Life at 8%. Also, we discussed Mortgage Loan Rates on owner residence. They are as follows: 8 1/4% with 1 to 7-year term 8 1/2% with 8 to 15-year term 8 3/4% witih 16 to 20-year term Annuities, Universal Life and Mortgages at rates that are exceptional are three great reasons for becoming a member of Lodge 200. If you know of a person who might be interested ask him to join us and he will find that fraternalism is the number one way to make money and serve each other at the same time.

The meeting of Ladies Circle at Lodge No. 92, Fort Worth, was called to order by President Clara Cohen.

Members and those who have been absent for awhile were welcomed along with visitor Eva Dockery. "Happy Days Are Here Again" was the song of the day and we sincerely hope it will start happening soon!

Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved after one correction. Treasurer's report was filed as read. Several thank you notes were read including one from Lodge No. 92 for our recent $500.00 donation to them.

Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting held March 4 was called to order by Vice President Rose Steinman. President Jo Prochaska was attending a funeral. We extend our sincere sympathy to her on the loss of her brother. May he rest in peace.

A prayer was said for our members' deceased loved ones; Jo Prochaska's brother, Rose Nieswidomy's sister and Elma Anderson's sister; and to all the sick.

The pledge to our flag was recited by all 36 members and guest Jewell Clark present. We enjoyed having Jewell back after a six-week recuperation after surgery.

The minutes by Merel Kovar and treasurer's report by Lydia Alholm

were approved. Anna Johnson reported on all cards sent, she is doing a great job.

Billje Star expressed her thanks for her card. Cards mean more than we know.

Lydia Alholm gave a report on her guests from Finland; their first time in the United States, which they really enjoyed.

Mollie Walker, now 98, sent her regards to all.

Door prizes donated by Anna Johnson and Rose Steinman were won by Roy and Lydia Alholm.

Rosemary Gribble reported her granddaughter Andra and husband Clark Hollaman adopted a daughter, Emily Allison. Congratulations!

We were reminded of a lunch for the Senior Citizens on April 23 at 12:00 noon at St. Thomas.

We had a guest speaker Tammy Popian, an interior decorator, who showed us some slides of the different styles of decorating. We all enjoyed the slides and got some ideas on how to improve our decorating.

The meeting was after the presentation. President Bertha Podhrasky called the meeting to order. Adell Vlk led in the reciting of the pledge to our flag and we remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of Frances Barfield, who has been a longtime -nember of Krouzek; Katy Jurcik, aunt 3f Bertha Podhrasky and sister-in-law of Libbie Slovak.

Bertha welcomed 35 members and 10 men guests.

Correspondence included a thank you card from Theresa Carper for sympathy card and donation to American Cancer Society in memory of her husband, Robert Carper; a thank you card from American Cancer Society for donation in memory of Robert Carper; a thank you card from Martha Kocian for get well card and money gift; a letter from Robert Muller School in Fairview, Texas asking for a speaker to speak to their kindergarten class on Czechoslovakia in March. Dorothy Reznik volunteered to do this.

Sunshine Committee member Liddie Pavelka sent a sympathy card to Fran-

ces Barfield family and a note saying a donation to "Memory Fund" of Circle of Czech Women in Sister Barfield's memory. A get well card was sent to Anne Zvolanek who fell and sprained her right wrist.

Sunshine Committee member Libbie Elsik sent a sympathy card to the Tupy girls on the loss of their brother-in-law Milan Dujka.

News of our members: The Big "D" Chapter of Professional Secretaries International honored Liddie Pavelka at a dinner meeting in February on her 35th membership anniversary.

Bertha Malik had a unique Christmas; she enjoyed having Christmas morning with her daughter, Yvonne Johnson and her husband, Wiley and also grandson, Neil. In the afternoon, she flew to Irvine, California and enjoyed the evening with her son Rudy, Jr. and wife Joy and granddaughters, Dede and Jenny.

We're sorry to hear that Rose Kopecek is feeling under the weather, she will be going to the hospital for some tests.

Beulah Horak is in the hospital for kidney dialysis.

Bessie Petr was sick and is having tests made.

We hope all our sisters are feeling better. Get well soon!

These were unanimously approved by the membership.

Bertha asked for volunteers for the hostess chairman. Alice Roberts volunteered. To help out Alice, if called and you cannot be hostess, please give Alice a 3-day notice or find your own replacement.

A big thank you was given to Adell Vlk and Wanda Petr who resigned their positions.

Hostesses were Lydia Alholm and Wanda Petr. Thanks to all the ladies who helped with the kitchen cleanup.

New Business: A committee consisting of Esther Cunningham, Liddie Pavelka and Bertha Malik were assigned to go over the by-laws and update them. They will bring the revised by-laws to the next meeting for us to vote on.

Wanda Petr volunteered to type and proofread the by-laws and membership book.

Announcements: Dallas Fraternal Society will meet March 9, 1992 at Ennis SPJST. Czech Culture Society will meet April 27, 1992 at the Catholic Czech Club.

From State Y outh Director Vestnik Project And Point Contest Results Dear Leaders and Youth Club Members, I would like to thank everyone who participated in February's Vestnik Project and Contest. The Teen Contest, ages 15-17, revealed many excellent ideas as to whose picture should be placed on our currency and why. The Junior Contest, ages 9-11, had several participants express whom they felt had influenced their life. Many revealed their SPJST Youth Leader as the one who had the most influence in their life. Dear Readers, Our last meeting was held February 16. We had 15 members, 6 adults and Door prizes were won by Jeffrey As1 visitor, Kevin Smith, present. Jamie hcraft and Lisa Spanhel.

Fraternally, Under old business, we discussed our Jennifer Ashcraft, Reporter Valentine party which was held February 21. Sandwiches and desserts were (3-18-92) —SPJSTbrought by youth club members; chips and drinks were donated by our youth club.

The cake walk was held February 29 Lodge at our Jerry Haisler dance.

Then, March 12 we had planned to visit the Dinomation Dinosaurs at 6:30 p.m.

I want to thank Gladys Yates and the Under new business on Saturday, April 4, we have our highway cleanup other parents for our Valentine party we had on February 21. It was great! at 9:00 a.m. Bring drinks, gloves, etc.

The register was read. There were 35 members and 6 adults present. Guests introduced were Carla Williams and Melissa Stracemer.

The meeting was brought to order and pledge to our flag was led by President Waylon Callaway.

We had a nice attendance. Guests introduced were Matthew Dulock, Amy Dennis, Brian and Nathan Tierce.

Charlene Stead read the minutes of our last meeting, and Jana Breitkreutz gave the treasurer's report.

We were supposed to have a kite-flying contest, but it was changed to have it at our May meeting.

Youth Leader Dawn Pavelka said we would have a St. Patrick's Day party on Friday, March 13 at 7:00 p.m. Everyone was asked to bring a refreshment.

After the meeting everyone enjoyed social games and then a meal. See you at our next meeting in April.

Mr. and Mrs. Pokorny were married February 24, 1925 at the Granger Brethren Church with the late Rev. Joseph Barton, Sr., officiating. Celebrating the occasion with them were their daughter and son-in-law, Velma Jean and Alvin Kubala of Buchanan Dam; granddaughter and her husband, Dawn and Gordon Urbanek; also two great-grandchildren, Weston and Wade Urbanek of Austin. The honorees including their daughter and granddaughter, are all members of SPJST Lodge Praha No. 29 in Taylor.
