Supreme Lodge Sponsors Scholarship Fund Drive October 1 - December 25, 1991 The Supreme Lodge SPJST is sponsoring a Scholarship Fund Drive starting Oc­ tober 1, 1991 through December 25, 1991.

The funds received will be used to help members of our Society achieve a higher education. The purpose is to create funds in addition to existing funds; provide more scholarships annually, and to make members aware of the scholarships provided by our Society to our members.

The scholarships provided by this drive will be awarded in accordance with the same procedure and criteria of the SPJST scholarship programs.

A donation of $1.00 per member is suggested for this drive. Any donation amount would certainly be appreciated to help defray the cost of higher educa­ tion, All donors' names will be published in the Vestnik.

Nashville Chosen For 1992 NAFIC Sales Convention The Board of Directors of the Na-: tional Association of Fraternal In­ surance Counsellors, at their recent meeting in New Orleans, Louisiana, announced that Stauffer's Hotel in Nashville, Tennessee will be the scene of the 42nd Annual NAFIC Sales' Convention. Dates will be April 30 through May 2nd.

The convention theme will be "Ideas that Work in the Nineties," and will feature, in addition to outstanding speakers, the ever-popular "Cafeteria of Sales," to be moderated by Director Bob Storm.

The social calendar will include "Grand Ole Opry" entertainment, a Friday night authentic "Hoe Down" and a Saturday golf tournament.

In other business, the Board an­ nounced there would be no increase in dues for 1992 and also ratified the ap­ pointment of Past President Bill Winter to fill the unexpired term of President Rolland Landry, whose un­ timely death occurred in late June.

The next Board meeting was set for January 23 and 24 in Rancho Mirage, California.

Kathy Fritz Chosen Texas "FIC Of The Year" A historic event for the SPJST took place at the Texas Fraternal Congress held October 18-20, 1991 in Houston.

Kathy Fritz, administrative assistant to Vice President Bernie Gebala, was named Texas Fraternal Insurance Counselor of the Year 1991. The SPJST can be proud to have people of Ms. Fritz's caliber on staff at the Home Office.

The following is quoted in part from the letter that placed Kathy's name in nomination for this distinguished honor.

"Kathy Fritz is the administrative as­ sistant to the Vice President. The Vice President is responsible for the In­ surance Department within the SPJST. By v.irtue of Ms. Fritz's position, she is responsible for all admínistrative

support rendered to 348 sales repre­ sentatives.

In addition to her full time respon­ sibilities within the Insurance Depart­ ment, she is a part-time sales representative representing SPJST Lodge No. 177, Academy. In 1990, she wrote $635,000.00 of business.

Kathy is also very active in the fraternal activities of her lodge and Society. She is the local lodge secretary, volunteers to work at special events at her lodge as does her hus­ band and two children.· Ms. Fritz is also active in community activities. In addition to holding the professional designation of FIC, she is also a professional secretary.

Kathy is a credit to the fraternal sys­ tem. The total involvement she evokes from her family and those she works with is an inspiration. She is a tireless worker who is dedicated to getting the job done in an efficient manner."

Lodge No. 13, Dime Box Dear Members and Friends: Fourteen members and one visitor met on Sunday, October 20, 1991 for the monthly meeting of SPJST Lodge No. 13. President Ricky Ford called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m., fol­ lowed by the pledge to the flag.

Roll call of officers and trustees revealed 12 were present and 4 absent.

Secretary Dorothy Rackel read the September meeting minutes. They were approved by carried motion.

Treasurer Debbie Kostelka gave the treasurer's report; it was approved as read.

A letter was read by the secretary in­ forming us that we may have two delegates at the convention in Victoria next June. Delegates will be elected at a later date.

By carried motion, starting Decem­ ber l, 1991, persons buying a ticket to a dance held here at the hall will not be allowed to go outside of the hall during the dance unless they want to purchase another ticket when entering the hall, again. This practice was in ef­ fect once before and trouble was kept to a minimum. When this practice was eliminated, the trouble arose, again.

We do not like to do this, but if we want to continue to have dances here, we have to control the trouble.

Just a reminder that the November meeting and elections will be held November 17 at 1 :00 p.m. instead of 2:00p.m ..

Lodge No. 32, Victoria November Meeting Date Changed President Mike Ahlstrom presided over the October 9 meeting of Lodge No. 32. Our next meeting will be on November 6, be sure to make a note of this change because it is on the first Wednesday of the month instead of the regular second Wednesday. · We wish a speedy recovery to Franklin Elles and Nelson Arnold, both have recently had surgery. We hope the two of them are up and about very soon.

Austin Lodge No.155 Reports The regular meeting of Lodge No. 155 was held at the Faith Community Church on October 6th. President Clarence Boriski called the meeting to order at 2:00 p.m.

Brother Charles Sponberg led the pledge of allegiance to the flag.

President and vice president were the only officers present. Due to secretary not present, no minutes were read.

Our lodge has 99 votes. We will elect one delegate and one alternate delegate to 1992 SPJST Convention in Victoria.

No treasurer's report was given due to absence of treasurer.

Nominating Committee was ap­ pointed by the president as follows: Mary Anna Wood, chairman and Laverne Hejl. Vice President Gary Chmelir appointed Mina Sponberg.

At the next meeting on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. to be held at Faith Com­ munity Church on November 3rd, a decision will be made where and when the Christmas party will be held.

William D. Hejl Promoted in Florida Wm. D. Hejl, Sr., accountant at the United Telephone Company in Florida,

has been promoted to tax manager. In his new position, he is responsible for the filing of all company, federal, state and local taxes, provide support for budgeting and regulatory activities which require tax input; and, develop the company's position on legislative issues.

Hejl began his career with United Telephone Company of Florida in 1985 as an intermediate internal auditor.

Hejl holds a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Rollens College and is both a CPA and a certified internal auditor. He resides in Apopka, Florida.

Wm. Daniel Hejl, his wife, Norine,

and three daughters, Becky, Natalie and Bonnie, all belong to our SPJST Lodge No. 155 William (Bill) Hejl has a brother John.B. Hejl in Austin who is likewise our member. John Bryce Hejl is our treasurer. William is the son of the late John B. and Lillie (Kopecky) Hejl of Austin and who were charter members of Lodge No. 155, Austin.

Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting was called to order by President Brother Jerry Milan.

He made welcome our guest, June Jirik, and led us to the Pledge of Allegiance and asked us to remain standing for a moment of silence in honor of our departed brother, Graham Brown. We extend our sympathy to the family and may he rest in peace.

The minutes by Sister Mary Renfro and treasurer's report by Sister Anna Johnson were approved as read.

Sister Anna Johnson was welcomed back after having surgery. We were happy she did so well.

Sister Pavey reported on cards sent and a thank you was read from Sister Johnson.

Brother Milan gave a good report on the District III meeting that was hosted

by Lodge No. 25 in Ennis. We had eleven members to attend and all enjoyed the delicious dinner and their hospitality. They really made you feel at home and we do need more members to attend the district meetings.

Sister Rose Steinman read the FAC report and reminded us the Fraternalist of the Year has to be in by November 1st.

A date set_ for our annual Lodge No. 154 and Sokol Christmas party is Thursday, December 19th. More details later.

Brother Talon Milan reported SPJST members will have another golf tour­ nament on Saturday, October 19 at 1:00 p.m. at the Lost Creek Golf Club.

Parents of the bride are Brother Emil and Sister Frances Mamula, and Mr. and Mrs. Marty Kleva are the parents of the groom, all of South Bend, Indiana.

Brother Jerry and Sister Henrietta Milan have Josef and Stephanka Regec of Brno, Czechoslovakia as guests in their home; they came to attend Talon's and Leslie's wedding.

The Golden Girls were on the road, again. We attended the dance at Sokol Dallas with the "Prazsti Muzikanti."

They were great and then that Sunday, October 6, we attended Czech Day at the State Fair. The program was beautiful and entertaining. Sister Be­ ssie Petr deserves a big hand for the beautiful groups she had on. It is al­ ways good seeing 'ole' friends from far and near.

Sister Mary Renfro was our door prize winner, again.

Our next meeting will be November 10 at 3:00 p.m. Our meeting adjourned to calories and fellowship which was enjoyed by all. So until --- keep smil­ ing.

Friendship Club, Fort Worth Our President Jo Prochaska called the meeting to order. She welcomed our guests, Ludke. and Maria Hykl from Czechoslovakia, who are visiting in the home of Jo and Frank Prochaska for a couple of weeks; W .P. Car­ michael, Otto Kurtz and Max Peters and 32 members.

She led us to the pledge to our flag.

The minutes by Merel Kovar and treasurer's report by Lydia Alholm were approved as read.

Our Sunshine Chairperson Anna Johnson sent in the names of all the cards she sent, read by Merel Kovar.

Anna had been undergoing tests and then was in the hospital for surgery.

We are happy to report she has been home for a week and is doing real well. Seeyou, soon!

Plans were made for our Thanksgiv­ ing dinner which will be held Wednes­ day, November 6, following a short meeting at 10:30 a.m. Guests are in­ vited. The adult dinners are $4.50 and children under 12 are free and others will be $3.00.

We are reminding you to bring canned goods or what have you for the St. Thomas Food Bank for Thanksgiv­ ing to the needy, and do the same for Christmas. Hostesses will be Billye Starr, Agnes Reznicek and Pauline Walker.

Lodge Rozkvět No. 172, Pasadena invites all members statewide to attend the Fifth Annual Gulf Coast Czech Festival on Saturday, November 2 from 2:30 p.m. until midnight and Sunday, November 3 from 9:00 a.m, until 8:00 p.m.

Four polka bands will be providing music, namely: The Vrazels' Band, Central Texas Sounds, Harry Czamek and The Texas Dutchmen, plus James Stryk and The Moonriders.

I am lucky, the train will miss my farm, but will be going about 2 miles West of SPJST Lodge No. 24, Cyclone, which is next to my home.

The train travels 200 miles per hour and makes a noise comparable to a jet plane taking off and will make as many as 34 round trips per day and will be heard for many miles.

We had a meeting in our area, and some 300 concerned citizens attended.

We were asked to write our Senators (Bentson and Gramm) and oppose tax money involvement in the train's operation. The company building the train has been keeping the project a secret, but you have a right to know.

Lodge 17, New Tabor Youth Club Gains Members Dear Members, The October 6, 1991 meeting of Lodge No. 17 was called to order at 3:00 p.m. by President Holly Suehs.

Vicki Morehead led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

The register was read by Secretary Kristen Cannon. There were 35 mem­ bers and 14 adults present. Kristen also read the minutes of our last meet­ ing.

New members introduced were April and Travis Dempsey, Christi, Misti and Lindsey Vollentine, Brandon and Tammy Odstrcil.

The treasurer's report was given by Chantel Sebesta.

Fund-raising plans for October will be a cake auction and cow pattie game on October 12 during the Fall Activity Day at Lodge No. 17. On October 27 at 6:00 p.m., we will have a hayride and a hamburger supper will be served. November 3, our youth club will go to Bryan to see Dinamation Dinosaurs.

The youth voted to donate to two local boys in need of expensive medi­ cal surgery.

Our guests were members of the Volunteer Fire Department. They spoke on safety and gave us a demonstration.

Refreshments were served by Chris and Cheryl Story.

Lodge 9, Snook Youth Meeting

Dear Vestnik Readers, Lodge 9 in Snook had their October meeting on the 2nd. We had several visitors.

After the meeting, we sang Hal­ loween songs and then everyone sang "Happy Birthday" to me.

Mrs. Betty Schoenemann helped us with a craft to take home to our mothers and grandmothers. It was fun.

Cooks Point community since 1913, Homeyer. where his parents, five brothers and Survivors .include his wife of 53 seven sisters moved to farm and ranch.

Brother Kovar was born August 15, 1916 in East Bernard, Texas to Peter and Veronica (Bohacek) Kovar. He was a farmer, a member of St. John Catholic Church, SPJST Lodge No. 28 in East Bernard, KJT, KC and a former Lions Club member. He was a resident of this area since 1950.

Rosary was recited at 7:00 p.m. Sun­ day, August 18 for the family, fol­ lowed by the KC and CDA. Rosary was also recited at 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 19 at the church by the parish.

Funeral services were held at 11 :00 a.m. Monday at St. John Catholic Church in Fayetteville, Texas with Father Thomas Nitschke and Monsig­ nor Ben Mazurkiewiez officiating.

Sister Minnie was born December 3, 1912 in Bastrop, Texas to Martin Sabrsula and Johanna Petrusek Sabrsula. She married Edward Pav­ licek on March 10, 1923. He preceded her in death on November 20, 1970.

Sister Pavlicek was a homemaker and a loyal member of SPJST Lodge No. 49; for years, she helped the lodge sisters wrap kolache for the Ballinger Ethnic Festival, even though she was crippled with arthritis. She was an avid deer hunter and fisherman.

She also loved good Czech music.

Her grandchildren recall her playing the accordian for them, not too long before she took ill. Her hobbies in­ cluded cooking, canning, dancing, traveling and an interest in life around her.

Survivors include two daughters, Eddie Mae Huebner of Rowena, Texas and Lyndelle Monroe of Hominey, Ok­ lahoma; a brother, Louis Sabrsula of Santa Rosa, California; three grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren.

Hřmotný, obhroublý venkovský farář veliký arcibiskup olomoucký měl zlaté srdce. Zůstalo stále stejné; netoužllo po slavě svetské, po mnohých výhodách; pochopilo Kristovo učení lásky: milovalo děti, studenty, vojáky, všecky slabé, nemocné a opuštěné. Pro každého mělo dosti tepla: slovo hřejivé a veselé. Kde čerpalo to teplo? Ono bylo přítelem jednoho tajemného opuštěného -- Ani jedenkráte neodešelStojan z domu, aby se nezastavil chvilku před kostelem, před oltářem -- Tarn nabíral a pak vyzařoval plný víry, radostné naděje a skutečné lásky. Jak žil tak umřel: žertuje a modle se. A když se zastavilo to zlaté jeho srdce, rozechvělo se svorně srdce národa - a od vesnice do vesnice letěla zvěst jako sladká pohádka: "Velikost srdce sama stačí, aby povznesla člověka vysoko nad průměr Pozorujte a osvěžte se trochu. Dobrý člověk až dosud Je ctěn všemi. Poctivá duše, zlaté srdce, čestná povaha dojde uznání vždycky. Dejte mi tu první žádost.

Rychle, rychle!" Hledám, hledám hledají druzí svoje první archy. "Lenoši jedni! To jsou mladí lidé? Karn bych Já přišel s vámi! K ničemu nejsteř' Brblal a my se dívali jeden na druhého: Tož to Je ten "tatíček Stojan?" "Se zlatým srdcem?"

Vlk, h~;!'~· brněnský biskup V. Cikrle a t~~;; královéhradecký biskup msgre K. F·· , Otčenášek byla zvláštním způsobem '.' ' i;, ., ..• : ~ významná též pro olomouckého e: ·~ arcibiskupa, moravského metropolitu F. Yaňáka. Ten totíž při ní oslavoval 75. ~~ narozeniny a 50. výročí jeho vysvěcení ,J na kněze.

Frant. Vaňák, metropolita Moravy, byl v první polovině září minulého roku tu v Americe v našem českém Texasu.

Olomoucký arcibiskup Vaňák byl tu v Houstonu 10. září 1990, kdy sloužil českou mši v domě zesnulého vlasteneckěho biskupa českého Texasu Žehná Vám Jana L Mořkovského, na pozemcích i Vaším drahým houstonského semináře Panny Marie. Dr. M o n s. ThDr. F r a n t iš e k V a ň á k, F. Yaňák se pak zúčastnil recepce a arcibiskup olomoucký, metropolita moravský družného setkání s representanty zdejších českých Texanů, Ten den pr1 narozen 28. června 1916, setkání s moravským metropolitou na kněze vysvěcen 5. července 1941 v Olomouci, Vaňákem se na mši a po recepci zpívalo na biskupa konsekrován 26. srpna 1989 až se hory zelenaly, dle známého v Olomouci, pořekadla "kde jsou Češi, tam se zpívá"; arcibiskupem jmenován Svatou Stolicí pan arcibiskup nám při této příležitosti 21. prosince 1989
