SPJST Czech Fest The SPJST Czech Fest will be held Sunday, September 22, 1991 at Bell County Expo Center in conjunction with Bell County Fair in Belton, Texas.

The fair will have exhibits from NASA plus a carnival· and other exhibits.

The feature events for SPJST will include a lot of polka and waltz dancing with music by the Vrazels' Polka Band of Buckholts-Cameron and the Czech Harvesters' Band from Dallas, with a polka-waltz contest open to the public.

A feature will also be the German Folk Dancers from New Braunfels who will perform several German dances and also two Czech dances. You will not want to miss this great group of dancers.

A noon meal will be available from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. and the sale of coffee and kolaches will continue throughout the afternoon with all profits going to the SPJST Scholarship Fund.

The $3.50 gate fee covers all dancing, entertainment and viewing of the Central Texas Fair. Food and carnival rides are at an extra cost.

The youth clubs are invited to sell crafts, candy, pastries and popcorn. They will have one table furnished per youth club on which to put their sale items.

Please notify the Youth Department at the Home Office if you will need a table.

We hope you will set this day aside and mark your calendar and plan to enjoy the fellowship with us on this day.

Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood Dear Readers: Our meeting was held July 5, 1991.

Our guests included Veronica Hrabal and Ernest Bezdek.

All reports were given and approved.

A thank you was received from the Brother Frank Prasifka family.

Sister Willie Mae Schuetz gave the youth report. On June 5 they took cakes to the rest home; on June 7, they worked on their scrapbook; on June 22, they set up for YAO and June 23 was District III YAD. Sister Schuetz thanked everyone for their help.

Those entered YAD were Tammi Dobecka, Celia Dobecka, Samantha Hrabal, Susan· Hrabal, Sharon Hrabal and Keith Hykel. Celia Dobecka won 3 first places, Sharon Hrabal won 2 first places, Keith Hykel won 2 first places; Samantha Hrabal, Susan Hrabal and Tammi Dobecka won second and third places. Tammi Dobecka won "Junior of the Year." Their youth club poster won second place and scrapbook won third place. District III camp was set for July 15-18, and July 21 our annual picnic.

Sister Willie Mae Schuetz also thanked the lodge for buying the jack­ ets for the youth leader and assistants.

Birthdays for July were Kayla Hromadka, Jimbo Hromadka and Peggy Dobecka.

Sister Schuetz read thank you notes from Juanita Lovecky and the Fred Monthei family.

Sister Schuetz sent sympathy cards to the Fred Monthei and the Frank Prasifka families. Get well cards were sent to Ruth Salder, Ben Mynar, Helen Mynar and Henry Matus.

Vice President Robert Dobecka reported YAD was a great success.

Sister Peggy Dobecka brought up in­ creasing the money awarded to the YAD participants and winners. After some discussion, the membership decided that the youth leader and as­ sistant youth leader bring the amounts to the trustees' meeting.

Vice President Robert Dobecka reported that the Tarok Tournament will be at Lodge No. 17 in New Tabor, State Royalty on August 17 and State YAD August 18, Tarok Tournament on September _21 at Lodge No. 29 in Taylor, SPJST Czechfest on Septem­ ber 22 at Bell County Expo Center and State Volleyball Tournament on November 16th.

Vice President Robert Dobecka then read the revised Westfest rules.

Brother Henry Matus was reported on the sick list.

Sister Evelyn Bezdek volunteered to take charge of advertising for our an­ nual picnic.

Brother George Straten asked Edwin Nors to be our auctioneer.

New members into Lodge No. 6 are Robert Hykel, Cheryl Hykel, Jessica Hykel and Alan Hykel.

- Door prize winners were Sister Wil­ lie Mae Schuetz -- $5.00 and Sister Annie Smajstrla's name was drawn for the $8.00 progressive door prize; Sister Smajstrla was not present and, at the next meeting, the door prize will be $9.00.

Other door prizes were donated by Cyrill Svrcek, Bobby Dobecka, Ed­ ward Hykel, George Straten, Willie Mae Schuetz, Bill Skerik, Ruth Krizan, Youth Club, Robert Dobecka and Fred Malina.

Visitors at the meeting were District II Director Willie E. Kohutek and his wife, Adeline Kohutek. Celebrating a birthday in July was Willie E. Kohutek. Anniversary celebrants were Joe and Rosemond Baker.

President Cabla thanked all who helped make YAD a big success.

Saturday's program include a dance and breakfast event open to holders of pre-sold tickets. Beginning with a dance at 8:00 p.m., cash awards totaling $7,000.00 will be given away at 10:30 p.m. to be followed with a breakfast served until 12 midnight.

Sunday's event will begin with lunch served at 12:00 noon, and a short pro­ gram to be announced later with music and dancing until 6:00 p.m.

Flags were presented by Jesika Tierce and Ashley Locke. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Jesika Tierce and SPJST Youth Club Pledge by Ash­ ley Locke.

All officers were present except Evelyn Seith.

We had one visitor Ollie J. Hall.

Secretary Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of our previous meeting and they were approved.

Then she read the minutes of the board of trustees meeting and they were approved.

Sister Sophie Leshikar gave the Entertainment Committee report for the July meeting; they served ham­ burgers and all the "fixings," chips, desserts and drinks. The meat was donated by Sister Evelyn Stuckly. For our August meeting, we will serve ice cream and members are asked to bring desserts.

Fraternal activities' report was given

by Sister Mary A. Langlotz. There were 30 members present at the July 8 social game night. Our next social game night will be August 12 at 7:00 p.m. Be sure to come and enjoy your favorite game; also bring a snack.

Cheer and Condolence Committee reports were given by Jeanette Smith; sympathy cards were sent to Jim and Mary Vrana and Sarah Sullivan; get well cards were sent to Batt Vernette, Clarence Janek, Tony Glatter, Joe Pruitt, Irene Mueller, Anna Vernette and George Trefny.

She also noted that Brother George Trefny would like to hear from mem­ bers and friends; his address is 2619 Langdon, Dallas, Texas 75235.

New members are Louise Glaes­ mann, Marian Posey, Jennifer Jank and Lorenga Sanchez. One 'transfer was Jennifer Sulak to Lodge No. 35.

Youth club report was by Youth Leader Gladys Yates. There were 12 members and 5 adults present. She reported on the YAD -- they won first place on the scrapbook. They are plan­ ning a trip to Schlitterbahn on August 3rd. They will have a cake walk at the August 10 dance.

Bookkeeper Sister Emma Ceska gave the quarterly report; all is in good order.

The Auditing Committee report by Darlene Engelke was that all the books were in good shape.

Door prize winner was Mary A. Langlotz.

A reminder -- the dance and din­ ner benefit will feature the Dallas Czech Orchestra with dancing starting at 3:00 p.m.; the Mexican dinner served at 5:00 p.m. Our members are asked to bring dessert for this oc­ casion, which is August 11 and we ask you to come and enjoy the afternoon, Mexican food or a hot dog plate and good music.

August 17, our dance night has Lone Star Czechs to entertain you.

Tom Marsh reported that the Audit­ ing Committee found all books in order.

The Dramatic Club will meet at the lodge on August 5th. Right now Tim Kostom is giving the Choral Group a "break" but not for long.

Mary Kosut reported for several months; April, May and June benevolences. She had been ill but is fine now.

Those who are ill are Delores Kram­ pota, Emily Sebek (who is recovering in a rehabilitation center) and Arnold Cmajdalka is still in the hospital and slowly improving, and hopes to go home soon. Birdie Pech is in the Polly Ryan Hospital in Richmond.

Our dear Mr. Souchek had a cute anecdote about Ed Miculka. We al­ ways wonder when he walks to the podium, who will be next. He will, again, have a Czech class. He has so much stamina. The best thing that ever happened to him is when he married Alice; of course, this is mutual. They are to everybody's liking.

DYC Marie Stayton complimented our President Jerry Ermis for his beautiful welcome speech for our. Dis­ trict V YAD on Sunday, June 23, 1991. She also announced that the youth will go to Camp Val Verde July 27th through 30th.

Marie says she' s certain that she will get a youth club started in Lufkin. She had Helen Hegwood to help her with this, since Helen is acquainted with everyone there.

Helen Hegwood gave the insurance report and we adjourned at 9:00 p.m.

Twenty-Sixth Czech Class At Alief Alief Evening School under auspices of Alief Independent School District is again offering a Conversational Czech course right after Labor Day at Hast­ ings High School. The location of the school is between Bellaire Blvd. on the South and Alief-Clodine on the North, on the southwest side of the in­ tersection of Cook Rd. and High Star Drive, in the community of Alief, in southwestern Houston. The first lesson of this 12-week course, designed to develop basic skill in the Czech lan­ guage wherever it is spoken, will be on September 4th Wednesday 1991, and henceforth once a week, always on Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tui­ tion, set by the school, will be $40.00 and the instructor will be again John J. Post Scriptum: Studies of Czech and classes of the same are vitally impor­ tant in perpetuation of our national heritage as they bring forth the in­ creased ethnic awareness of all in­ volved Czech-Americans.

Everyone knows that the advantages of learning another language are a hundredfold, and the fact that Czech belongs to the Slavonic languages (largest group of the European languages) adds to the value of the Czech language.

Knowledge of Czech is also a halfway step towards the learning of other Slavic languages. Czech is, according to the survey done by the Texas Educational Agency of Austin in the early seventies, the third langauge of Texas, after English and Spanish.

Now when our Old Country is finally free, the knowledge of Czech would be especially useful to the thousands of visitors to our beautiful ancestral land.

Anyone interested in the above of­ fered course should register by mail as soon as possible, or should come to the walk-in registration on the nights of August 28 and 29, 1991, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., in the Hastings High School South Cafeteria, 4410 Cook Rd. (Of­ fice registration begins on August fifth.)

Please do not wait until the start of the first class. Everybody, young or old, is welcome. (This applies to the former students, too.)

Secretary and Treasurer Jarolyn Popp of Lodge No. 133, San Antonio, was elected the new District VII president at their district' s spring meeting held in Yoakum, Texas.

Members of our lodge were very happy to see such a large turnout at the recent District VII Youth Achievement Day held at the Activity Center. Mem­ bers involved in this project deserve a lot of credit for their many hours of work. Our officers were very much in­ volved and we want to thank them all.

Youth club members of Lodge 185, Hill Country met July 25, 1991 at the Bavarian Village in New Braunfels, Texas. President April Haag called the meeting to order at 7:45 p.m. No secretary's or treasurer's reports were given.

District VII 1991 youth camp was planned for July 27 through 30 at Camp Val Verde in McGregor, Texas.

Youth Leader Theresa Haag gave the members a list of items to bring. In ad­ dition to personal items and bedding, each camper was requested to bring a costume for the Mardi Gras party, two dozen cookies and a plastic 2-liter soda bottle for craft.

Youth and chaperones were to meet at the Bavarian Village on Saturday, July 27 and were to leave for camp at 12:30 p.m. The campers were to return on Tuesday, July 30 at 4:00 p.m.

The next scheduled youth club meet­ ing will be held on August 22, 1991 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bavarian Village.

The meeting was adjourned at 8: IO p.m. with everyone looking forward to a fun time at SPJST camp.

12/VĚ'STNÍK-Wednesday, August 7, 1991 In the U.S. I would like to improve my knowledge of English as well as establish contacts with students who have interests similar to mine. I con­ sider the U .S. the most advanced country and, therefore, I would like to visit in order to become acquainted with its way of life, which I have read much about. And, in respect to my fu­ ture studies, I would like--if possible-­ to study biology, chemistry and physics during my stay.

So far I have attended a grade school with extensive teaching in foreign lan­ guages. I will graduate from the lin-. guistic high school this year, where I am ranked first in my class. In addition to many native Czech, I am proficient in English, German and Russian. I have studied English since I was 13 years old but have studied it with in­ terest for only the past 2 years. For the past 9 months, I have attended a spe­ cial English course staffed with English and American lecturers. For the time being, I make myself better understood in German, thanks to an exchange stay in Germany two weeks in 1987 and one month in 1990. My hobbies are sports and music; in sum­ mer I play tennis and soccer, while in winter I like to ski.

As compensation for my stay in the U.S., I offer a similar stay for an American student in Czechoslovakia, at the home of my family. We can pro­ vide a separate room with provision for daily meals and opportunity to be acquainted with our country and its neighboring studies. I live with my parents and my sister in a suburb of Brno. My father is a doctor who spe­ cializes in diseases of the ears, nose and throat. He is vice president of Brno's division of. the "Society of Friends of the USA." My mother is working as assistant in a laboratory of a Research Institute of Veterinary Medicine and my sister is still going to high school.

Concerning Brno, it is the third largest city in Czechoslovakia. It is an important center of administration, in­ dustry, business, universities, science, arts and sport and it is well-known in many foreign countries.

I look forward to hearing your reply.

I read an article in the newspaper about collaboration of our cities.

Somehow, I would like to participate. I know I should inquire at our city of­ fices but I always preferred to 'act directly without bureaucrats. Couple days ago, I met a young man from Dal­ las who was seeking information about meeting of citizens of both our cities without success and, at that time, I realized how few people here speak English. I always liked foreign lan­ guages but the Communist regime made it impossible for me to do what I wanted, which I would enjoy more than what I did. I have worked as a re­ search scientist in the time when all re­ search was just a waste of money.

Science laboratories employed mostly privileged children of influential of­ ficers and well-deserved elders. I was not even allowed to accept scholarship in England or USA, which deeds I will never forgive. My attempts at obtain­ ing a visa for USA were not successful because of my age (57 years old) which would be just a waste of money.

I understand this and am trying other possibilities.

I can provide a furnished room to a nice person, close to the -tram station and I can also be a city guide. I speak English, German, Russian and some French. Sometimes it is difficult for foreigners to find their way around and avoid various shady characters. I can ask my friends from the science world for letters of recommendation if you think that I could be useful. There are *** just not enough hotels in our city and City of Dallas prices are quite high. I do not mean that Americans cannot afford a hotel, Mr. George Pulkrábek but I think that they are rich because Vránova 85 they do not waste their money. Medicine have agreed to welcome visiting Czech and Slovak doctors to participate in the daily rounds and re­ search activities at the Texas Medical Center in Houston. While the educational aspect is without charge, the need for travel and housing would fall upon the doctor himself. At current wages in Czechoslovakia, it takes 1 O months of the doctor's salary just to get a round trip airfare.

The Texas Czechoslovak Physician Exchange Program was created as a non-profit organization to assist the candidates in this mission. The aim of the group is to provide a room at a residence hall and to help as much as possible with travel and meals. The ex­ perience will be invaluable to both the doctor and those who support him. The length of stay will be three months and many candidates have already shown interest.

Czechoslovakia gave to Texas a great heritage of people, customs and traditions. For the past fifty years, that relation has been interrupted by a political barrier.

In keeping with this exchange, the Charles University in Prague will ac­ cept both students and faculty from the host medical schools. The Charles University was established in 1348 and is one of the most prestigious in Europe.

In response to this arrangement, funds are being sought to support our Czechoslovak visitors.

Oddíl Dopisovatelů Vydařená schůze CEFT v Temple, Tx. Schůze české vzdělávací nadace státu Texas (zkratkou CEFT) se konala 20.července 1991 v Hlavní úřadovně Slovanské podporující jednoty státu Texas (zkratkou SPJST) v Temple, Tx. krátce před jedenáctou hodinou dopoledne. Přítomní ředitelé a návštěvnice byli srdečně přivítáni presidentem sboru ředitelů Rogerem Kolářem a hned se začalo s projednáváním pořadu schůze.

Přítomní si zajisté připomenuli, že se tato schůze opětně odbývala za nepřítomnosti neúnavného býiv alého presidenta ředitelského sboru, pana Josepha Skřivánka, Jr.,který svým nadšením a organisační schopností uvedl naši nadaci v činnost a přispěl po všech stránkách k dosavadnímu úspěchu práce nadace.

President sboru Roger Kolář navrhl, aby nadace vyjádřila veřejně svoji vděčnost za příspěvky, které byly zaslány na založení fondu pro katedru českého jazyka, literatury a kultury mnohými krajany z celého Texasu, Ameriky, Kanady a i zámoří a při té příležitosti poukázat i na životachop­ nost naší krajanské menšiny v Texasu.

Podle dosavadního průzkumu je už zřejmé, že naše tiskové zprávy o čin­ nosti nadace nejsou příznivě vítány ve velkých denících ve větších městech v Texasu a tím ztrácíme možnost rozšíření známosti o práci naší nadace a činnosti naší menšiny v Texasu. Zdá se, že hlavní deníkyse zajímají jenom o takový druh zpráv, které jim pomáhají prodávat noviny, zatímco hodnotná práce naší menšiny není hodna uveřejnění v novinách.

Rovněž bylo podotknuto, že většina politiků a lidí ve vládních úřadech chápe jenom úzkou definici menšin, to je týkající se jen Američanů černé a hnědé pleti a to se projevuje nepříznivě a neprospěšněv naši práci a je nutno se nějak zbavit této úzkoprsosti a nějakým způsobem proniknout na stránky hlavních deníků. Snad má někdo ze čtenářů zkušenosti v této práci a mohl by napsat o této záležitosti do našeho krajanského tisku. Naše krajanské noviny v Texasu podávají pravidelné zprávy o práci nadace a podobně i asi stovka menších novin po celém státě.

Nebylo by na škodu také promluvit s poslanci z těch volebních okrsků, kde jsou krajané politicky dobře organisovaní a mohli"by zařídit pod­ poru naší činnosti ve sněmovně.

Někteří ředitelé mají velmi dobré zkušenosti ze spolupráce v obecních a městských knihovnách, kde je možné darovat knihy a písemnosti týkající se práce naší nadace.

Podle stanov naší nadace je už nutno v polovině roku myslet na výroční schůzi na začátku přfštího roku a mezi jinými povinnostmi je také nominace asi třetiny nových ředitelů. V případě, že někdo z našich krajanů si přeje být ředitelem naší nadace anebo ví o někom, kdo by se zajímal o práci v naší nadaci, je potřeba napsat na adresu

našeho tajemníka Marvina J. Marka, 3218 Hunters Glen, Missouri City, TX 77459 o podrobné informace.

Nejdůležitějším bodem je zaplacení prvního členského příspěvku ve výši stovky dolarů a pak placení pravidelného členského příspěvku 2S dolarů ročně. Větší počet ředitelů z různých částí Texasu pomůže k rozšíření činnosti nadace.

Náš finanční tajemník Ben Trčálek, Jr. přednesl potěšující zprávu o stavu financí, podle vkladů v bankách se blížíme k polovině částky, kterou má nadace za povinnost vyplatit universitě, aby universita přidala svůj vyrovnavající příspěvek, tím bude celková částka pak zaokrouhlena na milion dolarů.

Zdůraznil proto, že je nutno povz­ budit další přispívatele, aby nadace splnila svůj závazek co nejdříve.

President Kolář pak informoval přítomné ředitele o výměně dopisů s velvyslankyní Československé federativní republiky Ritou Klímovou ve Washingtoně, D.C. a jeho nahídce, aby se paní velvyslankyně stala čestnou ředitelkou naší nadace.

Paní velvyslankyněnabídku přijala a v dopise se přiznala, že se jí v Texasu líbilo a vyjádřila naději, že nadace a jiné organisace by mohly pomoci staré vlasti v budoucnosti.

Pak se projednávaly drobnější body, zejména potěšila zpráva, že videopáska pořízená pro Ostravskou televisitrojicí Valachů v roce 1989 se dobře prodává a kdo má ještě zájem o koupi, ať píše na adresu: Mr. Roger H. Kolář, 3108 GlenviewAvenue, Austin, TX 78703a za dvacet dolarů si může koupit tuto pásku.

Hledají se také zájemci o knihu pro­ fesora Polišenského, který sepsal historii novější doby a rád by ji nabídl krajanům ve větším počtu. Nadace se pak stane monopolním prodavačem této knihy pro.Ameriku a Kanadu.

Nejdříve však musí někdo přečíst tuto knihu psanou v angličtině a posoudit její hodnotu.

Přípravy na Český den při Státní výstavě v Dallasu budou co nejdříve zahájeny a počítá se s účastí pražských muzikantů v kulturní části programu českého dne. Kapela začne koncertem v Sokole Žižka v Dallasu, pak mají několik dní volno, potom budou hrát na státní výstavě, v East Bernadu, Buckholts, v Louisianě a ukončí zájezd v Torontě v Kanadě.

Po návštěvě našich krajanů v Brně na Moravě se očekává návštěva delegace Brna v září a říjnu v Dallasu.

Pravděpodobně se též zůčastní i oslav českého dne v Dallasu.

Při této návštěvě bude zase nová příležitost uveřejnit nějakou zprávu o činnosti naší nadace a krajanské menšiny v Texasu.

Na Dělnický svátek (Labor Day) se pořádá také WEstfest a další krajanské podniky. Westfest a Koláče festival v Caldwella některé rodinné sejití bude v

tomto roce nafilmováno novou skupinou filmařů z Valašska, kteří se chystají na cestu do Texasu koncem srpna tohoto roku. Doufejme, že se jim podaří doplnit podrobněji film o životě našich krajanů v Texasu. První páska zachytila jenom v hrubých rysech různorodost a pestrost života našich krajanů, nyní bez politických a censurních zásahů bude možné natočit skutečný a pravdivý obrázek z Texasu.

Na závěr schůzebylo rozhodnuto, že další schůze se bude konat v Dallasu dne S.října 1991, to je sobota před českým dnem, na později určeném místě.

Dopis z Ceskoslovenska

Aliefská večerní škola se nachází v jihozápadním Houstonu mezi bulvárem Bellairena jihu a ulicí Alief Clodine na severu, na jihozápadní straně křižovatky ulic Cook Rd. a High Star Drive, v budově tam se nacházející High School Hastings North. Šestadvacátý kurs češtiny jež tu zahájí ve stsředu čtvrtého září 91, bude vyučován 12 týdnů, vždy ve středu od 6:30 do 9:00 večer. Tento kurs bude opět zaměřen na jednoduchou konver­ saci se základy mluvnice k rozšíření hovorových možností všude, kde je tu v Texasu či kdekoliv jinde česká řeč používána. Školné je pouze 40 dolarů což je méně než tři a půl dolaru za dvě a půl hodiny výuky české řeči! To je láce hnedle lepší než u Bati Další informace zdělí o tomto kursu zdělí kancelář Aliefské večerní školy, jež má následující adresu a telefony: Alief Community Evening School (AISD), P.O. P.S. Vyučování a učení se české řeči je nutné k zachování našeho národního dědictví tu ve Státu osamělé hvězdy, jelikož studiem češtiny se stává českoamerické studentstvo etnicky uvědomější. Toto studentstvo spolu s dalšími roduvěrnými krajany pak nedopustí, aby česká mluva se stala za 30 či SO let tu v Texasu mrtvým , jazykem, skončivším v muzeu. Čeština je slovanskýjazyk náležejícído slovan­ ské jazykové skupiny, která je největší v Evropě. Znalost českého jazyka tedy usnadní studia všech ostatních slovan­ ských řečí. Studia češtiny jsou rovněž velmi vhodná pro všechny ty Čechoameričany druhé, třetí či šesté ~enerace, chystající se navštívit Ceskoslovensko, když Stará vlast je konečně teď svobodná!

Prosím upozornětě své příbuzné, přátele a známé na tento 26 kurs češtiny v Aliefu. Zápis je možný poštou již od pátého srpna.

Bernalice 16/7 Važený pane redaktore Dnes . večer byl pořad v televizi o moravských Texanech. Tatínku bratr odjel do Ameriky. Libe jsme po něm . pátrali. Komunisté ani dopise neod­ silali. Můj bratr byl politcky vezeň a viděl pořad, kdy nás bratranec z Tex­ asu hledal. V roce 1989 se vrátil tak mne znovu psali, ale teď je u nás svoboda a ja jsem teď jen sama žijici z rodiny Maclánů, než zemřu byla bych ráda kdybych se o Macláních něco dozvěděla. Jestli Vám to bude možné a dozvítese něco o jméně Macláň Tamíeš pochazejicí od sv. Hosstýna a napsal mi. Byla bych Vám, velmí vdečna.

Važený pane redaktore, v naší československé televizi jsem dne lS.7.1991 zhlédla pořad "Texasšti Moravané'' o životě a práci Moravanů u vás. Velmi mne udivíl, zaujal, protože i můj některý předek byl kolem roku 190S enigrační vlnou odván přes moře do Texasu. Všetoto mi vyprávěla má babička která již zemřela, přesto by mne zajímalo, či by nebylo možno navázat kontakt přes Váš Věstník s pozůstalými zda by se třeba.. neozvali, protože moc o toto pozndní moje babička stála. Pokoušela jsem se přes zname v USA toto zjistit, ale bezvýsledně.Nyní jsem se rozhodla, že zkusím štěstí přes Váš casopis.

Jedna se o rodinu pana Maliny (ovšem v letech asi 1900-1910).Jeho paní byla rozená Mauřová ze Zákopčí -Hutiska - Solance v okrese Vsetín.

Tato paní Malinová byla tetou me babičky.

Hospodáři často nemívali sousta ani pro sebe, ani pro zvířátka. Pomýšlela tedy zvířátka, jak by se zbavila nouze.

A tak pravil pes kohoutovi: "Víš-li co, bratře kohoutku? Utecme do lesa!

Tady máme živobytí bídné!"

Tedy šli, kam je oči vedly. Chodili celý den; smrákalo se, byl čas vyhledat si nocleh. Sešli s cesty do lesa a vyhlédli si velký, dutý strom. Kohout vyletěl na haluz, pes zalezl v dutinu a usnuli.

Ráno, sotva se rozednívalo, kohout zakokral: kukurykú! Uslyšela kohouta liška, zachtělo se jí pochutnati si na kohoutím mase. Poodešla pod strom a vychvalovala kohouta: "Ejhle, kohoutek, ano, kohoutek! Takového ptáčka jsem jakživa neviděla: peříčko jaké krásné, hřebínek jaký červený, hlásek jaký jasný! Sleť ke mně, milý přítelíčku!"

"A nač to?" táže se kohout.

"Půjdeme ke mně na hostinu! U mne jsou dnes hody a pro tebe hrášku nachystáno."

"Dobře!" pravil kohout, "jenom že já sám jíti nemohu; se mnou je kamarád."

Hold the certificate. Investors who want stock certificates they can hold will soon be socked with a fee. In Sep­ tember, the country's biggest stock­ broker, will begin charging investors $15 whenever they ask that securities be shipped to them as certificates.

Other firms are expected to do the same as the securities industry tries to discourage certificates in favor of cheaper electronic record keeping. In­ vestors concerned that a snafu could wipe out a transaction need not worry; they will receive confirmation slips documenting purchases. Indeed, you are more apt to misplace stock certifi­ cates than to fall victim to a computer error; and you do not need certificates for loan collateral; banks will be satis­ fied with an account statement. But you might crave a certificate when giving stock as a gift. You can save by bundling your requests: When an in­ vestor asks for certificates for two or more securities, the biggest stock­ broker will cap the fee at $30.

Among the goals and objectives set forth last year, one of the goals was to have active sales representatives in every lodge. The Insurance Depart­ ment has acted upon these mandates by conducting Home Office training sessions for new SPJST sales repre­ sentatives.

The second Home Office training session was held for two days on a Saturday and Sunday. SFM Gene Mc­ Bride, assisted by SFRS Jerome Hlavaty and Helen Hegwood, con­ ducted this two-day training· session which consisted of an intense cur­ riculum on life insurance basics and how to apply that knowledge in the field.
