Celebrates lOOth Birthday On Sunday, July 5, 1991, Mrs. Mary Minks celebrated her lOOth birthday with her family and friends at the American Legion Hall in Wallis. Mrs. Minks was honored by the SPJST Supreme Lodge with a "Certificate of Appreciation" award which was presented by Dennis A. Korenek, secretary of Lodge Nova Doba No. 122, Wallis. Mary Minks was born on July 9, 1891, to Joseph and Katherine Kopecky in Park, Texas, near La Grange in Fayette County, a small community which no longer exists. When she was very young, the family moved to West Point, Texas, and then to Plum, Texas, where she started school. Some years later, the family . moved to Prim, Texas, a small com­ munity now called Kirtley, and then to near Smithville. On January 11, 1910, Mary Kopecky and Innocenc Minks were married in Smithville. A year later, the couple moved to Wallis where she and her late husband were engaged in farming until they retired in 1956. Mary Minks is the mother of eight children, four sons and daughters-in­ law, Ivan and Frances Minks and Joe and Rosalee Minks, all of Wallis, Innoc and Alice Minks of East Bernard and George and Geneva Minks of Brazoria; four daughters and sons-in­ law, Louise and Charlie Zalesak and Catherine and Leonard Melnar, all of

A subscription to the La Grange Journal was $2.00 a year and the New York Times sold for 2 cents a copy. Mary Minks joined SPJST on January l, 1911, at Lodge No. 60 in Wallis. She transferred her member­ ship to Lodge Nová' Doba No: 122, Wallis, when the two lodges merged. Her policy matured on January 1, 1988, when she outlived her policy. Retirees Honored In Taylor homes for 30 years .. During this time he held the offices of treasurer, vice president and president for the past six years. Mrs. Schwenker was recognized for her outstanding leadership and dedica­ tion to the elderly for 18 years as ad­ ministrator of S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. I in Taylor. Mrs. Schwenker is a very loving, caring person and will be missed by all of us. She continues to visit her mother-in-law in the nursing home, and is performing some volun­ teer services here. We continue to enjoy her presence.
