Roll call of officers revealed ten present and five absent. Sister Dorothy Racket read the December meeting minutes. By carried motion, they were accepted as read.

Sister Debbie Kostelka gave the treasurer's report and it was accepted as read; also the 1990 annual bar report was given, it was a very profitable report.

A letter from Fraulc Klinkovsky was read, informing us of the State Horse­ shoe Tournament to. be held· on April 27, 1991.

Several other matters of business were discussed and taken care of.

Brother Andrew Vavra installed the 1991 officers. We want to thank him for his time and concern for our lodge.

Several dates to keep in mind are February 23rd--The State Officers' Workshop in Holland at Lodge No. 80 and State Horseshoe Tournament-­ April 22nd.

Frances and Alvin Schimcek from San Antonio recently learned to play Taroky. Frances was in 9th place out of 96 players. Alvin didn't have such good fortune as wife Frances and came in 96th to win the Bad Luck award! They really enjoyed the tour· nament and the fellowship.

On January 12th, ninety-six in­ dividuals from all over the State of Texas arrived at Lodge 47 Seaton Star Hall for their annual Mid-Winter Tarok Tournament. The gathering of all these individuals reminds this writer of a family reunion. These die­ hard Tarok players are part of a move­ ment created by Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and the SPJST Society in an effort to revitalize the Czech Heritage game of "Taroky."

State Fraternal Activities Coor­ dinator Frank Klinkovsky was excited by the number of players present and their dedication to preserve the game.

"We are so pleased that so many in­ dividuals decided to spend the day playing Taroky," said Mr. Klinkovsky.

"We hope to have so many people present at our State Tournament that will be held 011 March 2nd."

All the participants played six rounds of 12 hands and, after the smoke cleared, the top eight were announced.

Lodge No. 66, Waco Dear Members: The first lodge meeting of 1991 was held on Sunday, January 20 at 2:30 p.m. by President Jim Locke who called the meeting to order.

Flags were presented by Nicole Pruitt and Jesika Tierce. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sandra Trick­ ett and SPJST Youth Club Pledge by Alicia Neslony.

Everyone was asked to remain stand­ ing for a moment of silence for our deceased members: Emil O. Hanus, Albina Jaska, Walter Vanzura, Danny Joe Moore, Alvin Schofield and Louis Vanek. May they rest in eternal peace.

All officers were present.

Secretary Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of the previous meetings and they were approved.

Sister Darlene Engelke received a donation from the Ed Screeny family which will be used as a memorial donation to the Libbie Parma Trust Fund. She also stated that the lodge refund was smaller.

Youth Leader Gladys Yates reported there were 21 members, 2 new mem­ bers and 3 adults present at the youth meeting. They will make Valentine boxes for our February 17th meeting and they will use the Valentine boxes as door prizes. They will have a Valen­ tine Dance on Friday, February 15th.

They gave a donation to Toys for Tots, Caritas and Salvation Army.

She also reported that District III meeting will be April 14th at Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth. There will be horseshoe and quilt contests at that meeting.

Kitchen Chairman Mary Werner asked Louise Newman to present a report on our food and beverage sales.

After discussion, members voted for an upward adjustment in the prices charged for certain items.

A highlight of the meeting took place when Sister Helen Hegwood, sales field representative, presented a check to Sister Benita Walzel. Congratula­ tions Benita for being top sales repre­ sentative in District V for December.

Director Hanus spoke to us about the preparation of the yearly budget by the Supreme Lodge and explained in detail the parts of the formula used in deter­ mining the amount of the annual refund to local lodges.

Bar Manager Edwin Susan reported on recent price adjustments to some items sold at the bar.

Our next regular meeting will be held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, February 17, 1991. The lodge will fur­ nish roast beef and members are asked to bring a vegetable, salad and/or des­ sert.

House Committee -- Brother Salac reported he and Brother Olson in­ stalled electrical bandbox plugs and other outlets. He also reported on hall rental that he has several open dates for rental.

Youth Club is having their meeting next Sunday after which they will go bowling. Youth Leader Bessie Petr met with the leaders to plan the an­ niversary program for March 10th and to keep this date open to help celebrate our 81st birthday with a catered roast beef dinner, the Czech Concert Or­ chestra, a guest speaker and, of course, the youth.

The Dallas-Ennis Council will meet February 1 lth at Sokol, with SPJST Lodge 130 hosting. .

Sister Wanda Petr will report a full schedule at our next meeting, which is February 10th our initiation, honoring new members as guests of the lodge for dinner at 5 p.m, The meeting starts

at 3 p.m. The dinner consists of fried chicken, baked beans, etc., dessert and drink for $4.00, adult and $2.00 for child. Our ladies will bring the des­ serts, please.

The Czech Culture Society meets February 25th at Sokol with a dinner honoring the last year's workers and greeting the new.

February 2 --At our free dance to everyone we'll introduce a first at our lodge "a ground hog broom dance."

President Olson demonstrated the steps last Monday which looks easy to fol­ low. I neglected to ask if she will give any additional lessons the night of the dance. Our kitchen and bar will be open and you may BYOB. The Alpine Village Band will keep you dancing waltzes, polkas, even country and western music and, of course, a few numbers of the "ground hog broom" notes!

President Olson said dance schedules can be picked up at the entry desk and the mailing list is being prepared to be sent, so you'll come for a good eve­ ning of dancing.

Lodge No. 88, Houston Naomi Spencer, Rosalee and Tim Kostom enjoyed the Christmas Holidays when Ruth and Frank Kurz came in from· Oklahoma City. Ruth is Tim and Naomi's sister. Just recently Ruth and Frank returned from El Paso where their daughter, Ruth Moore, was presented in a graduate piano recital in partial fulfillment of requirements for her Master of Music Degree. The num­ ber of times, Naomi has heard her niece perform on the piano, she has no doubt that her niece is not too far off from accomplishing her doctorate. Tim and Rosalee were hosts on Christmas Eve while Naomi hosted a Christmas Day dinner of turkey and all the trim­ mings. I might add that since Oleta Hanus was out of town visiting her brother who has been hospitalized, her husband, Louis joined the out-of-town guests on both occasions.

Some of our fine young people from Lodge 88 went skiing to Winter Park, Colorado and reported they had a great

time. Those who went are Bobby Allbritton, Lynn Pflughaupt, Brent Shepard, Garry Ward, Traci and Kristi Green, Gwenda and Joci Wilson, and Allena Gramatikos. They reported a fabulous time (no broken bones), and lots of fun. They were in several days of snowy weather, which is always so inviting to the southern kids because they never get to see snow. This group of young people are all present or past Texas A&M students, and are now back in school or working.

Paul Pflughaupt, the youngest son of Larry and Dorothy Pflughaupt, was in­ ducted into the National Junior. Honor Society on Friday, January 11, 1991.

He's the grandson of Leander and Josephine Pflughaupt. He attends Hamilton Middle School and is in the Vangard Program. He, his two brothers and the rest of the family are so proud of him, and so are all of Lodge 88 members.

We had a very nice Christmas at my children, Al and Arlene Marshall' s home in Weimar. I had a cold when I went and brought it back home with me and kept it another two weeks, however, it was worth the nice time I had with my family.

On January 14, 1991 we had our monthly meeting at Lodge 88 with President Jerry Ermis presiding. He opened the meeting at 7:30 p.m. with Flag Bearers Darlene and Mar1ene Migl and Michelle Linney presenting the colors.

President Jerry named 6 members who departed from us since our last meeting and they were Joe Elzner, who had been a very active member for many years. He passed away on December 22, 1990. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ann; daughter-in­ law, Wanda and her husband Noel Kenedy; four grandchildren, Rochelle and husband Steve, Jody Bennett and husband Ronnie, John Elzner and wife Carolyn, Jeff Elzner and wife Bonnie.

The great-grandchildren are Adam and Jessica Bennett, Megan, Michael and Kristina Elzner. Their only son, J.D., was killed in a car accident a number of years ago. The funeral was held at Forest Park Funeral Home on Decem­ ber 26th. Ann and family: We all sym­ pathize with you.

Vlasta Stasta, who was a longtime active member, and is survived by her daughter, Lillian; John Kadlecek, a longtime active member is survived by his wife, Frances and one sister, Marie Rezek; others were Mrs. Rosa Macek, Mr. Vladimir Maudr and Nuncia Franklin; also Miloslav Karel passed away unexpectedly. He was a member of our Society since 1956 and has been an active member of the Dramatic Club, where he played in many Czech plays. He is survived by wife, Anna; son, Karel and daugher, Eva Olexa. He was laid to rest in the Cecelia Cemetery. Our membership sym­ pathize with all of you.

The Remunerations Committee had to have two members voted on by the members, and they were Franklin Bravenec and Carolyn Filipp voted by acclamation.

Karl Lindemann, chairman of the board, gave a good report.

Tom Marsh reported for the auditors, with all books found in order.

The Choral Group report by Presi­ dent Gene Barca.k: called a meeting for January 15 for election of officers. He also announced rehearsal for every Tuesday night except the 4th week, then they will rehearse with the Lodge 88 Czech Concert Orchestra. They ac­ cepted an invitation to Czech Day in Corpus Christi, which is the first weekend in March (March 2, 1991).

Our Legal Advisor Richard Schnell made a brief statement about keeping the original records at the lodge office, in case of fire or thievery. We have the privilege to zerox some copies for our home for individual records.

Mary Kosut gave a very good report on benevolences, and asked to give her the hours of volunteer work.

Some of our sick members are Frank and Minnie Krotky, who live in Weimar, but have been such faithful members. Minnie always brought the best pies to our functions. We hope that both of you will recover soon.

Frank is in Room 2304A at Spring Shadow Glenn for rehabilitation.

Our Blue Room Bartender Nat Gon­ zales is on crutches due to a mishap at work. We miss you, so hurry and get well. Lillie Spies' sister Annie has been in the hospital and so has A.J. Stayton who had surgery, also Almeda Bravenec had eye surgery and it was giving her trouble. All these dear members need our prayers.

Louis Hanus gave a very informative talk about the directors' meeting in TempJe. District V President Evelyn Mikeska announced the meeting on March 1 O at Lodge No. 196 in Katy. She asked for sweets. She will have a memorial ser­ vice. Her plans are not completed.

Youth Leader Barbara Linney gave a real good report on her hardworking youth.

Past Entertainment Chairman Harley Cox gave the annual report for 1990, followed by Viola Cox, our present chairman for 1991. She asked her en­ tire committee of 22 members to stand.

She also announced that another ballroom dance class will start on January 21 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. · each Monday for 6 weeks. Carl Rentz will be the instructor. If you need any advice you are to see Harley or Viola.

On Saturday, January 26 Bobby Layne from Nebraska will play Big Band Music.

There is a blue folder with dances through June, so pick one up when you come to a dance or otherwise. If you get the Vestnik, the schedule is on page J 5. At 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 13, 1991 President Dennis Hermis called our monthly meeting to order.

We had sixty-two members and seven guests who stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

Roll call of officers by Secretary Alice Jochen revealed that all were present.

Then the secretary read minutes from our previous meeting which stood ap­ proved as read.

Under correspondence, Vice Presi­ dent Keith Kieschnick had a letter in regards to the State Horseshoe Tourna­ ment for Saturday, April 27 in Temple.

All officers and committee reports were given.

New members were Willie J. Janik, Jame M. Krotofil, Deborah Kokes and Patrick Kokes, all. four new members signed up by Sister Rosie Tomis, sales representative.

Sick Committee reported Butch Stein and Keith Kieschnick were admitted to the hospital, but are home and doing O.K. now. Brother Nelson Jochen also had surgery (out patient) on January 7th; his report showed he will do fine.

Visitors recognized were Joe Gam­ bii, Frieda Kieschnick, Jo Buri, Jo Ann Buri, Becky Taronowski, Joe Taronowski and Ed Taronowski.

Lodge Jednota No. 196, Houston­ West will host District V spring meet­ ing on March 10, 1991 at VFW Hall in Katy, Texas.

Birthdays for January are Fred Buri, Kenneth Baronowski, Lawrence Schlihab and Howard Kieschnick.

Anniversary celebants are Mr. and Mrs. Charles Motl (January 10, 1991 51 years); Mr. and Mrs. Martin Kieschnick (January 17, 1991 - ·4s years).

The $20.00 capsule prize went un­ claimed due to the absence of Joyce M. Molenosky and Brian Tomis. The capsule prize goes to $30.00 in the February meeting.

Youngest member prize of $5.00 went to Craig Behrens.

Round Rock Lodge No. 187 Holds Christmas Party On December 9, 1990 Round Rock Lodge No. 187 had their Christmas Party.

Lodge President Gene Landry led a short business meeting. He called for all the trustees on the board to stand and be recognized.

Red Oman conducted the election of the Board of Trustees. Red Oman and Jim Stacey were up for re-election and they were both re-elected by acclama­ tion.

Logan Bartz was voted in as the lodge's newest board member. We are certainly looking forward to having him on the board and know he will be a great asset.

Youth Leader Sharon Holman reported on the youth activities. All the youth led in singing Christmas carols. Santa Claus came in while they were singing.

Elsa Lange won the main door prize by guessing how many candies were in a small mailbox.

Other door prizes were won by Fred Klaus, Neal Boydston, Janie Barron, Norman Fuessel, Vickie Juarez, Joy Leschber, Nancy Johnson, Christie Lange, Nancy Fuessel, Gladys Nelson, Henry Wobus, Daren Lange, Red Oman and Rubie Volek.

This was certainly an evening of good fellowship and delicious food.

Czech Language Class At Alief Alief Evening School under auspices of Alief Independent School District is again offering a Conversational Czech course in the beginning of February '91 at Hastings High School. The loca­ tion of this school is between Bellaire Blvd. on the South and Alief-Clodine on the North, on the southwest side of the intersection of Cook Rd. and High Star Dr. in the community of Alief in southwestern Houston. A common part of Czech folklore is its music. The folk songs and dances have been a very necessary part of all important family events.

Barliest Czech folk music dates back to pagan times, as the old New Year Eve's Day songs written in 1426 by the priest, Jan of Holeslov, Moravia.

They are still sung today. Traditional folk music has been replaced by a more modem form. But the old rural musical instruments and favorite tunes have been revived in amateur groups and during folk festivals.

In the past, often in the evening after sunset, the young people would gather in the yard and the one with the best voice would step forward and, start to sing. Soon, the others would join in, holding hands and standing close together.

Music, called the speech of the heart, occupies the top position in the art . field of the Czech people. Folk songs are of a single spirit, the culture of God, binding the nation and its people into one spirit, one happiness and one paradise.

The National Anthem, festival songs, love and religious songs join with the simple folk songs to speak of the things closest to the heart of every Czech; the love of nature, homeland, church and family; all combined to form the richest segment of Czech folkart. Lodge 88, Houston Youth Club News Dear Vestnik Readers, The Lodge 88 Youth Club meeting came to order on January 2, 1991 at 7:35 p.m. by Vice President Melissa Havemann.

There were twelve members, four adults and one guest; the guest was Steven Wunsch, age 16.

Secretary Kristy Sokol read the minutes from our December meeting and they were approved.

For the treasurer's report, we earned $283.62 for December.

We also received correspondence from SYD Claudette Reese and the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas.

January birthdays are Brian Havemann (24th) and Amanda Havemann (3rd). Amanda Havemann also set in her first meeting as Lodge 88 Youth Club reporter.

Melissa Havemann and Gayla Clark received their certificates for their first place Christmas ornaments.

Last, but not least, our hardworking parents got awards for their help in supporting all of our activities.

Lodge 185 New Braunfels Attend Party The Hill Country Lodge 185 Youth Club members met with the adult members on Friday, December 28, 1990 at 6 p.m. at the Bavarian Village in New Braunfels for our Christmas Party.

After the meal was served, we sang Christmas carols for the adults. After our gift exchange, we played Bunco with the adults. We all had fun, both the youth and old members.

Lodge 29 Taylor Youth Club Dear Readers, The January 13, 1991 meeting of Lodge 29 Taylor SPJST Youth Club was called to order by President Diane Havalda.

The Pledge of Allegiance and SPJST Youth Club Pledge were led by youth member, Miss Kris Muegge.

The treasurer's report was given by Eric Tallas. Eric also reminded mem­ bers of dues that were still owed.

Jennifer Havalda called the roll; there was one visitor, Travis Betak, present of Round Rock, Texas.

Members voted to go to North Cross Mall in Austin for the January social.

The social was on January 20th. There were 28 members in attendance.

A get well card was signed by all members present at the January meet­ ing for Assistant Youth Club Leader Petty Rieger who is recovering from surgery.

Assistant Youth Club Leader Elaine Machu handed out camp T-shirt con­ test forms and advised us they were due by January 31st. She reminded members about the district social (skating party) at Skate Haven in Temple on February 17, 1991.

Then, she advised members about our next meeting at 5 p.m, on February 10, and District Youth Counselor Patsy Koslovsky will be at our meeting to visit with us.

She also told the members about gifts for Valentine's Day to be made for adopted grandparents at the February meeting.

Expression of Sympathy We, thé undersigned Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 17, Novy Tabor on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed brother FRANK BRAVENEC,

who died Thursday, December 27, 1990 at a Yoakum nursing home after a lengthy illness. Mr. Bravenec had at­ tained the age of 95.

Mr. Bravenec was born on November 4, 1895 in Lutonina (Moravia) Czechoslovakia to the late George and Mary Drabek Bravenec. In 1906 he moved with his family to Bell County, Texas and lived there until 1925.

Mr. Bravenec was married to Frances Odstrcil on May 17, 1925 and they moved to the Chriesman community in Burleson County where he spent the remainder of his active life as a farmer and rancher. He was a member of the New Tabor Brethren Church.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Fannie Bravenec; a grandson, Jeffrey Polansky; two sisters and one brother.

Mr. Bravenec is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Lillie Polansky of Richmond, Texas, Mrs. Dorothy Mgebroff of Yoakum, Texas and Mrs. Mary Ann Novosad of San Antonio, Texas. He is also survived by five grandsons, one granddaughter, five great-granddaughters, three great­ grandsons and three nieces.

Funeral services were held December 29 from the New Tabor Brethren Church with Rev. Henry E. Beseda of­ ficiating. Burial followed in New Tabor Church Cemetery.

who died Tuesday in a Temple nursing home.

Services for Bertha Schiller, 93, of Temple were held at 3 p.m. at Ocker Brethren Church with the Rev. Eugene Kotrla and the Rev. Joseph Polasek of­ ficiating.

Burial was in Ocker Brethren Cemetery.

Mrs. Schiller was born in Austin County to John and Mary Dywoki Chernosky. She married Adolph Schiller in 1918 and lived in the Meeks community. She moved to Temple in 1968.

She was a member of the Ocker Brethren Church, .the Christian Sisters, SPJST Lodge No. 24, and she was ac­ tive in the Bell County Home Demonstration Club.

Survivors include a son, Garland Schiller of Temple; a daughter, Mar­ garet Plachy of Temple; a brother, Randolph Chernosky of Bellville; eight grandchildren and 12 great­ grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Ocker Brethren Church Building Fund.

Sheffield Funeral Home of Temple was in charge of arrangements.

Features Klecka's Klub Kontinental Plans Three Tours Into Czechoslovakia For 1991 The recent political changes in Czechoslovakia· naturally created changes in the economic situation, and as of January 1, the Czechs have had to start "from scratch" to become a working free-enterprise country.

The great need now is to recruit and encourage good, key men to replace the Communist-trained managers in factories and the government and also people with the courage to begin their own businesses. Forty years of being told what to do makes having the initiative to begin making one's own decisions and taking responsibility a tremendously challenging "big step" for the average Czech.

Many tourists asked many questions, including: "Can we travel safely? Is it possible for us to visit our relatives? Is it safe throughout the country?"

The answer to all of these questions is "YES"! And, you may find that some of your relatives have gotten lucky and been able to rent a flat, or a room in a hotel, if they had money to pay for it in Czech currency. Meals for tourists can be paid for in Czech crowns. One U.S. dollar is being ex­ changed at the rate of 25 to 30 Czech crowns.

On the other hand, private chauffeurs with a car for private touring have in­ creased to the cost of $60 to $70 per day because of the rise in the cost of gasoline ($4 per gallon). Still, with the exchange rate as it is, this is a buyer's

Open House Honors Mrs. Frances Schwenker The S.P.J.S.T. Re::, .io;ne No. I in Taylor held an open house in Decem­ ber honoring Mrs. Frances Schwenker on her retirement after eighteen years of service as administrator of the home.

Mr. Dan Balusek, representing the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes Board of Direc­ tors, opened a short program by thank­ ing Mrs. Schwenker for her many years of faithful service to the rest home and staff.

The Taylor Czech Chorus sang several songs in her honor.

Mrs. Diane Volek, Mrs. Ilyn Kaspar, and Mrs. Pauline Kovar served refreshments to the guests and friends who came and also to the residents of the home.

The main centerpiece on the serving table was a cake with the SPJST emblem and a Christmas bouquet of flowers.

Mr. Woody Richards of Austin, Texas will now be the administrator of the home. Mr. Richards and the staff of the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home want to wish Mrs. Schwenker the best of wishes and much happiness in her retirement.

Texas Folklife Festival San Antonio -- The Institute of Texan Cultures will celebrate "20 Years of the Best of Texas" at its an­ nual Texas Folklife Festival, August 14, 1991.

For two decades Texas Folklife Fes­ tival visitors have had the rare oppor­ tunity to encounter first-hand many of the elements which helped build the state of Texas into what it is today.

The four days and nights of the Fes­ tival are always alive with fascinating sounds, smell, and activities resulting in an atmosphere that is virtually une­ qualed anywhere.

Whether an individual's interest lies in the rugged activities of pioneer life, the soulful sound of gospel music, or the tantalizing flavors of exotic foods, the Festival presents a happy cross­ section of the entire Texas experience.

The Texas Folklife Festival grew out of the Institute' s participation in the National Folklife Festival in 1968, which was sponsored by the Smith­ sonian Institution in Washington, D.C. Built as the Texas Pavilion for the 1968 HemisFair, the Institute sent a delegation, led by O.T. Baker and ac­ companied by 150 Texas performers, to this four-day extravaganza.

The success of the national festival spurred interest in staging an all-Texas event at home. Fittingly enough, Baker was named Festival manager, and after four years of preparation, the first Texas Folklife Festival became a reality.

Through the years the Festival has endured a hurricane, hosted a wedding, buried a Louisiana crawfish with honors, and discovered hidden jewels of ethnic expertise all across Texas.

Over 10,000 participants now exhibit their music, dance, artistry and cuisine on the 15-acre grounds of the Institute, and approximately 100,000 visitors come to savor this wonderful showcase of Texas talent.

In a city known for its fiestas and pastries, the Texas Folklife Festival in San Antonio stands alone as a com­ bination of entertainment and educa­ tion which preserves and honors the cultural diversity of Texas. It truly is the best of Texas, presented for 20 years by the state's premier ethnic re­ search, education and communication center, the Institute of Texan Cultures.

Oddíl Dopisovatelů Babička a vnučka ve staré vlasti Ludmila Vaculíková Bylo 24. května 1990, když jsme já, babička, a Janička, moje vnučka, odletěly z Dallasu na návštěvu staré vlasti. Janička má 8 a já 71 roků a jely jsme za jeden měsíc po zlomenině kyčle a operaci kloubu. Doktor mne velmi přísně upozorňoval, abych moc nechodila a letuška mě vezla na kolečková židli ve Frankfurtu a tam na nás již čekala vnučka Šárka se Staňou, řidičem, který nabízí své služby v Hospodáři. Po vyzvednutí kufrů jsme se vydali ke hranicím Československa.

Cesty jsou v Německu krásné jako v Americe a vroubené lesy. Moc se nám to líbilo a všude bylo čisto. Mají hodně odpočivadel při cestě pro řidiče automobilů. Šťastně jsme přijeli až ke hranicím, kde prakticky nebyla žádná prohlídka. ani visum jsme nepotřebovali a jeli jsme k Domažlicím. Že jsme měli málo benzinu v nádrži, musíme jet do většího města, kde byla otevřená ben­ zinová stanice, kde jsme načerpali ben­ zin až na cestu do Hluku. Cesta ubfhala dobře, mluvilo se a občas jsme zastavili, pojedli a odpočinuli. Janička byla vzrušená už z Dallasu a to vzrušení v ní bylo až do Hluku. Ale je moc hodná holčička, všechno dobře dopadlo až do konce, byly jsme tam dva měsíce a měly jsme se dobře.

Přijeli jsme v sobotu ve tři hodiny ráno a Straňáci zabíjeli veliké prase, mělo přes 300 kilo, čekali s ním, až přiletíme, oni ví, že mám ráda zabijačku a tak zabíjejí prase koncem května, když přiletím. Všechno bylo velice chutné a ty jitrnice byly pochoutka. Nebyly jsme u nich na zabijačce, ale synovec Jenda přinesl všecko k nám a my jsme si všecí pochutnali a ještě byly řízky na druhý den. Staňu jen mrzelo, že jsem nepřišla a měla jsem všechno vyfotit, to prase byla malá kráva a třikrát denně jej musel polévat vodou, aby vydrželo, než přijedeme. Ale já jsem měla moji nohu na mysli, aby se kloub nějak nevysmekl a co potom se mnou?

Zabijačku vyfotíme na příští rok, dáli Pán Bůh, pojedeme zase. To je jediné, co mě těší, že jedu domů a vidím celou rodinu, jinak celý rok nic neutratím a šetřím na cestu. Tento rok jsme platily necelý tisíc dolarů a Janička platila dvě třetiny letenky a já celou. Jídla na letadle bylo hodně a chutné a pití kolik kdo chce, tak dostane.

Do Hluku jsme přijely a měli tam moc slavností, napřed byly primice, pak první svaté přijímání, potom slavné Dolňácké slavnosti se známou jízdou králů. Tisíce lidí bylo vyšňořeno v krojích a tančili v průvodě, ukazovali, co umí a zpěv a hudba se ozývala po celém průvodě. No, to se musí vidět, jak byl Hluk vyšňořený a krojovaný, ta nádhera, zahrádky a růže červené...

Celý Hluk byl vyzdobený, jen náměstí nestačili dodělat a co se nestalo? V sobotu na večer Janička mi říká:babičko, kde je můj kroj? Honem letím i s tou nohou ke Květce Píšťkové, či je už nachystaný, ale ona měla veliký a to se na osmileté děvče nehodilo, tak jsme se stavily u M. Svadbíkové, ale také nepasoval. V neděli ráno jsme na náměstí a kmotřenka jde do kostela. Říkámjí:kmotřenko, Janička chce jít v kroji, tož jí to sežeň, já nemohou s tou nohou létat a shánět kroj. Tak se vrátila a již před dvanáctou hodinou byly u nás s Janičkou, kroj byl a věneček se trochu upravil a byla moc hezky nastrojená a jak ráda šla se strýčkem na dolní konec, kde se průvod řadil.

Program na hřišti byl bohatý a zase přijeli muzikanti až z Holandska, oni hrají a zpívají česky a jsou kamarádi s Hlukem, navštěvují se vzájemně.

Slovácko je Slovácko a tu bohatost, nádheru krojů a veselost lidí neuvidíte nikde, to se musí vidět a prožít v neděli mezi lidmi. Také suvenýry, vyšívky, ze dřeva předměty, porcelánu a tolik všeličeho k dostání, pak k jídlu byly párky s hořčicí, pití všeho druhu bylo, že se to ani nevypilo a perníkových srdcí, oplatků, čokoládové bonboniery a jiné věci.

Také přišla zpráva, že bude zdražení a stejně jako když jsem byla v Hluku předtřiceti léty, nakupovali lidé všechno možné, co bylo v regálech, až zůstaly jen prázdné. Nebyla jsem se na to podívat kvůli té noze a také jsem to nechtěla vidět, protože vím, že mouka, rýže a některé potraviny se nedají udržet, ale my lidé, jsme už takoví sobečtí a myslíme si, musím to mít, když to mám za co koupit a nebereme ohled na jiné, že chtějí také. Stejně stát přidal po zdražení na osobu 140 korun. · I benzín kupovali a doma skladovali, cena byla sedm a půl koruny a teď je 13 a půl koruny.

To zboží musí být DRAHÉ, protože Rakušané, Němci, Poláci, Maďaři jedou a koupí si celé balíky. Že prý jede Rakušan z Vídně do Českosloven­ ska, koupí se kilo svíčkové a vyplatí se mu to?!? Budou muset zvýšit ceny, aby zahraniční turisté jídlo nevykupovali, ať si koupí porcelán, granáty, vyšívky, malované věci, na které jsou naši lidé odborníci. Snad po Novém roce se upraví ceny, aby se vyrovnaly vedlejším státům a lidé měli ke koupi všechny věci, které na každý den potřebují.

Post Scriptum: Vyučování češtiny a učení se české řeči je nutné k zachování našeho národního dědictví jelikož studiem české řeči se stává · českoamerické studentstvo etnicky uvědomělejší. Toto studentstvo spolu s dalšími roduvěrnými krajany pak nedopustí aby česká mluva se stala tu v Texasu za 30 či 50 let mrtvým jazykem, končícím v muzeu. Česká řeč je slovan­ ský jazyk, který náleží do slovanské jazykové skupiny, jež je největší v Evropě. Znalost češtiny tedy usnadní studia všech ostatních slovanských řečí. Studia češtiny jsou rovněž velmi vhodná pro všechny ty Čechoameričany druhé, třetí či šesté ~enerace, chystající se na návštěvu Ceskoslovenska, když stará vlast je konečně svobodná!

Prosím upozorněte na zhora uvedený kurs češtiny v Aliefu své příbuzné, přátele a známé. Každý, mladý či starý, je upřimně vítán.

UŠI. Už docela malinké děťátko, které ještě neumí ani sedět, utišíme, když mu zazpíváme písničku. I každý z vás má nějakou písničku rád, slyšíte zpěv, sami umíte mluvit, protože máte uši.

Mnozí z vás však docela dobře neslyší.

Když pan učitel nebo některý spolužák mluví nebo čte tišeji, nerozumějí mu dobře. Nastavují uši s pootevřenými ústy, a přece nevědí, co říká. Jsou na [edno nebo na obě uši nedoslýchaví.

Spatně se proto učí, mají špatné známky. Snad někdy dříve stonali těžkou rýmou nebo bolením v krku.

Přitom jim v uších píchalo a pak jim z nich teklo. To znamená, že se jim pro­ trhl ušní "bubínek", zůstal děravý nebo špatně srostl a oni jsou od té doby nahluchlí. Někdy špatně slyší také děti, které mají velké mandle. Nebo ty, které si samy bubínek protrhly, protože si šťtouraly v uších tužkou, jehlicí nebo nějakým jiným tvrdým předmětem. To nikdy nedělejte! Uši uvnitř čistíme jen měkkou vatičkou nebo cípkem ručníku a jen vlažnou vodou bez mýdla. Jestliže někteří z vás špatně slyší, řekněte to panu učiteli, který vás posadí do předních lavic.

Já jsem malá Rozmarinka, nerada se chlubím -ale česky bez ostychu vždy a všude mluvím!

Jak zaslechnu českou píseň, národní zřím kroje -tu mně srdce povyskočí, pocity mám dvoje: Jeden patří Americe hned na prvém místě -při druhém se rozvzpomenu na domov svůj jistě!
