During that time, his committee assignments, while national in scope, enabled him to achieve many worthwhile programs to improve the quality of life for central Texas.

During his announcement President Houston cited Congressman Leath as a man of rare vision and talent who is personally committed to the virtues of initiative, hard work, self-reliance and generosity. He further commented that Congressman Leath exemplifies the leadership qualities advocated by the Boy Scouts of America and is a living example for others to follow.

A dinner honoring Congressman Leath will be held at the Frank Mayhorn Center in Temple, Texas on MC -· 1988 State Queen Marcy Tuesday, October 16, starting at 7 p.m. Dorotik of Lodge 30.

SPJST Czech Fraternal Fest To Be Held At Bell County Expo Center The SPJST Czech Fraternal Fest will be held on Sunday, September 16th at the Central Texas State Fair, located at the Bell County Expo Center, Belton, Texas -- under the big silver dome. The public is invited.

The music of2 well-known polka bands, Leo Majek's Orchestra from Corpus Christi and Jodie Mikula Orchestra from Ennis, will be featured for public dancing. The gate admission to the fair includes all SPJST fraternal fest activities and is $3.50, adults; children, $2.00; pre-school free.

A meal will be served at a nominal cost from 11:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the Expo Center under the dome. Public is invited.

SPJST Youth Club booths will also be a prominent feature and will include the sale of various items of interest. Czech kolaches and coffee will be sold all afternoon with the proceeds to go to the SPJST Sponsored Scholarship Fund.

A polka and waltz contest, sponsored by the Supreme Lodge SPJST, will be held in the afternoon with trophies awarded to winning couples, Everyone is invited to compete in the dance contest to show their skills and exhibit their dancing talent.

Repeating this scenario several times, The Texas Czech Beseda Dan­ cers, ably corraled by Beseda Director Sister Martha Vrla, once again, en­ joyed the hospitality of San Antonio at the 19th Annual Texas Folklife Fes­ tival. We joined the some 10,000 par­ ticipants on August 2nd through 5th ir. presenting Texas folklore to hundreds of thousands of visitors. Whittling, winemaking and watermelon seed spit­ ting. spinning and weaving, shingle splitting, sheep shearing, and candlemaking, quilting, pinatas and pack mules, gooseplucking and for­ tune-telling, com shucking and chair caring, blacksmiths and Indian horses, along with dance and music from some 40 varied ethnic groups offered diverse entertainment and activity to any liking.

Speaking of liking, there's the food-­ Oh, my! The food! More than 35 countries and industries offered their wares, making the aroma tantalize you for blocks before you reach the In­ stitute of Texan Cultures Festival Grounds.

Khmer monang (chicken), bay (steamed rice) and chrok (salad) were my favorites. Others enjoyed yam pie, Alsatian wurst, Spanish paella, Cajun gumbo, pecan pies, Dutch ice cream, Lebanese mint tea, and Filipino Pancit, along with our good Czech Klobas­ niky, Strudle, Kolace and Zelníky.

You really need to be twins to visit folklife, because there is so much to see=-ít is nearly impossible to enjoy it all. Eleven stages are erected at strategic points on the grounds, and

The roll call of officers showed all present, except Secretary-Treasurer Jarolyn Popp. Twenty-four members attended the meeting.

Visitors included Rose Babyar, sister of Mary Popp and Hazel Davis with her son, friends of Evelyn Kalfus. We are so happy Mrs. Kalfus was able to be with us.

Sister Viola Kurtz announced that the following members celebrated their anniversaries in June, namely: Adolph and Agnes Popp (56 years) Jaroslav and Marcella Kleprlik (52 years) Jim and Lucille Dlugosh (48 years) Don and Marie Netek (47 years) Members celebrating July anniversaries included Frank and Viola Faj­ kus, 49 years; Alvin and Bernice Hajek, 41 years; David and Kathy Murley, 14 years.

Caldwell's 6th Annual Kolache Festival On September 8, 1990 we will celebrate the 6th Annual Kolache Fes­ tival on the square in Downtown Caldwell.

The Kolache Festival is a celebration of the revitalization of Czech heritage.

We share the history and bring into today' s focus the beauty, talent and delight of the Czech people.

Come to the Kolache Festival and learn and see the technique of stencil­ ing, basket weaving, egg decorating, quilting, woodcraft, sculpturing, dance the polka, sing the songs of the musicians and taste the true ethnic foods.

There will be entertainment from 9 a.m. to 11 p.rn. Some of the enter­ tainers will be the Vrazels, the Mikulas, East Bernard Czech Singers, Gulf Coast Singers, Junior Beseda Dancers from New Tabor SPJST Lodge No. 17, Senior Beseda Dancers from Seaton SPJST Lodge No. 47, Burleson County Czech Singers, Original Kolache Fest Band, Clem Kubacak and the Flatlanders of Geogetown, Sunshine Gospelairs, Nor­ bert Blazek-Texas Czech Singer, Kovanda's Czech Band of Fayetteville and many others.

There will be museums and history displays, quilt show, Czech bookstore, The Czech flag ceremony, the Czech National Anthem, antique automobile show and classic motor cars, art show, antique engines and machinery show.

The nominative is also the case of a noun standing alone (unless in direct address, or understood as a part of an incomplete sentence).

The accusative case is the case of the direct object of transitive verbs. It tells what person or object is directly af­ fected by the action of the verb. It answers the questions: Whom? What?

The masculine inanimate and neuter hard nouns have the same form in the

accusative as in the nominative. The feminine nouns change the ending "a" to "u": Ex.:Mas. Nominative: Accusative:

One particularly attractive area of Westfest is the cultural tent. Here you will find a big selection of various ethnic entertainment. ln addition to Czechoslovakian dancing and costumes, you will find Norwegians, Mexican, Ukra­ nian, Polish and others. Sokol gymnastics is also presented in this area.

Performances are held under a large tent near the entrance of the festival. There is plenty of seating so that you may rest your feet as you view the colorful and entertaining culture of the world.

The cultural tent is another of the many colorful at­ tractions you will find on your visit to Westfest in 1989.
