Sister Fannie Bartek Reaches Age 96 Sister Fannie Bartek celebrates her 96th birthday this year. She was born in the Airville community and had lived in the community most of her life. She was one of four children born to John and Mary Tallas. One brother and two sisters are now deceased.

Fannie (Tallas) Bartek was married to Ernest Bartek (deceased). They farmed in the Airville community, near Temple.

Fannie and Ernest Bartek had three children; the two living children are

Juanita Marek and Marilyn Olson. She also has six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She lives with her two daughters.

Sister Bartek is still active. She walks without any assistance and al­ ways has a smile for everyone and a friendly greeting.

The Supreme Lodge SPJST and the members of Lodge No. 24 extend con­ gratulations and best wishes to Sister Fannie Bartek on reaching age 96.

Dear Members: A reminder that our annual Family Day will be held Sunday, August 12 at the American Legion Hall in Hallet­ tsville, beginning at 11 a.m. with registration.

A barbecue brisket and sausage din­ ner with trimmings will be served at noon with a small charge of $2.50 for adults and $1.50 for youth.

Ladies of our lodge are asked to bring cakes, pies, or kolaches to be served with the meal.

A short meeting will follow the meal with our 50-year members receiving their pins. District VI Director Matt Vanek plans to be with us.

The youth club will have a drawing and the mother lodge will sponsor a "Grab Bag." Members may bring bags for the grab bag with the price on the bag and if it's for an adult or youth.

Door prizes will be given and refreshments served.

Lodge No. 16, Bila Hora Dear Members: SPJST Bila Hora Lodge No. 16 will have their meeting on the second Sun­ day, August 12 at Bila Hora beginning at 2 p.m.

This is our annual social, so mem­ bers be sure to attend.

Progressive "42" Tournament At Lodge No. 29, Taylor SPJST Lodge No. 29 in Taylor will have a progressive "42" Tournament on October 20, 1990. We, especially invite the members of other SPJST lodges to come and enjoy a day of fun.

But the tournament is open to the public, so bring your friends or come alone. Registration fee is $10 of which $4 of each entry fee will go for prizes and the rest will be used for coffee, snacks, noon meal, postage and cor­ respondence.

The tournament is limited to the first 100 players to register. So we ask you to please register by October 13th.

This will also help us in preparing enough food for the noon meal and to provide efi:OU~~- ~o,ffe~ and snacks.

All players will need to be signed in on the morning of the tournament by 9 a.m. Sign-in will begin at 8: 15 a.m. at which time each player will draw a number. Playing will be seated at tables according to numbers drawn.

We will try to start playing at 9:15 a.m., but if too many players are not ready, we will delay the start for a few minutes.

At the end of the first game, the win­ ners at each table will move up to the next table, but they will split up and play the next game with one of the losers who remained at that table. The only exception be the winners at the head table, who will remain at the head table as partners until they lose a game, at which time they will move to the last table, split up and play with one of the losers who remained at that table. Winners will continue to move up and split up after each game.

Coffee and snacks will be available when players arrive to sign-in and throughout the day. We will play 20minute games with 5 minutes between to move to the next table. This will continue throughout the day as fol­ lows: We will play three games, take a 20minute break, play four 20-minute games and have our noon meal at about 12:20 p.m. We will start the afternoon play at 1:15 p.m., play two 20-minute games, take a 15-minute break, play: three 20-minute games, take a 15-minute break, and then play the final three 20-minute games. This will make 15 games to be played.

At this time the winners will be an­ nounced. Prizes will be awarded for first through fourth places with a traveling trophy being presented to the champion. There will also be some other prizes awarded. If there are any ties, the first tie-breaker will be the total number of marks scored by the player and his partner in all games played. The second tie-breaker will be the total number of marks scored against the player and his partner by the opponents in all games played. If there is still a tie, we will arrange a suitable playoff.

We will use the rules that the State SPJST uses. When you pre-register, if you need a set of rules, please tell me and I will send you a copy. Sister Kay Majek and her helpers deserve a big thank you for their work of many hours before the YAD; all the planning paid off by everything going on as scheduled. On July 25 we had our regular meet· ing, called to order by President Jerry Dressler at 7:30 p.m., in Czech and English languages.

Sister Bobbye Johnson led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and we held a moment of silent prayer for departed members.

Due to the absence of Sister Lillia Mae Peter, lodge secretary, Sister Tin­ nie Walla read the minutes of our last regular meeting. Then we had the read­ ing of several correspondences. Sister Bobby Johnson (FAC) read a letter from Supreme Lodge about the selec­ tion of a Fraternalist of the Year for 1990. She said we will vote in Septem­ ber at our regular meeting, so get ready and make your choice. · Sister Tinnie Walla read the financial report, then rest of the committees gave their reports and were good to hear.

We had one member, Sister Cecilia M. Malek, who died. She was the wife of Willibold R. Malek. She was a charter member of Lodge No. 172. We extend our sympathy to the family. We also extend our sympathy to Brother Raymond and Sister Ruby Skrabanek on the death of Ruby's mother.

We also send our get well wishes to Sister Vlasta Macbann who bad heart surgery and is doing all right. Best of health to you and Brother Joe, and we'll see you at our next meeting.

Then after some good discussion, for the betterment of our lodge, Brother Jerry called on the youth leader to give her report. She brought us up-to-date about what the youth were doing. Our thanks to Sister Watkins and all the youth for your good work.

Our next lodge meeting will be August 22, but before the meeting we will have a stew supper which our lodge will furnish and Brother Willie Walla will be the chef, so ladies bring bread, salads, pastries or whatever else goes good with stew. We will start eating at 6:30 p.m. and the meeting starts at 7:30 p.m.

Czech Class At Alief Alief Evening School under auspices of Alief Independent School District is again offering a Conversational Czech course right after Labor Day at Hast­ ings High School. The location of the school is between Bellaire Blvd. on the South and Alief - Clodine on the North, on the southwest side of the in­ tersection of Cook Road and High Star Drive in the community of Alief in southwestern Houston. The first lesson of this 12-week course, designed to develop basic skill in the Czech lan­ guage wherever it is spoken, will be on Wednesday, September 5, 1990, and henceforth once a week, always on Wednesdays from 7 to 9:30 p.m. Tui­ tion, set by the school, will be $40.00 and the instructor will again be John J. Post Scriptum: Studies of Czech and classes of the same are vitally impor­ tant in perpetuation of our national heritage as they bring forth the in. creased ethnic awareness of all in­ volved Czech-Americans. Everyone knows that the advantages of learning

another language are a hundredfold, and the fact that Czech belongs to the Slavonic languages (largest group of the European languages) adds to the value of the Czech language.

Knowledge of Czech also is a halfway step . towards the learning of other Slavic languages. Czech is, according to the survey done by the Texas Educational Agency of Austin in the early seventies, the third language of Texas, after English and Spanish.

Now when our Old Country is finally free the knowledge of Czech would be especially useful to the thousands of visitors to our beautiful ancestral land.

Pilsner takes its name from the town of Plzen (Pilsen) in western Czechos­ lovakia. Letters From The Youth Districts V And VII Youth Attend Camp Activities Dear Sisters and Brothers, From July 16 to 19, 1990, District V and District VII enjoyed four fun­ filled days at Camp Val Verde, near Mcflregor, Texas. After about a 5-hour trip, District V arrived· at camp about 2:30 p.m.

As soon as everyone was settled in their cabins, there was plenty of time to walk around the camp and visit other cabins. After dinner LITs had a meeting to finish making name tags and to assign duties.

LITs from District V were Darlene Migl (Lodge 88), Marlene Migl (88), Tommie Wallace (88), Melissa Havemann (88), Michelle Linney (88), Brian Havemann (88), Shannon McGee (88) and James Pruitt ( 172).

Later that evening, we had storytell­ ing. Everyone got to take part in the story, and it was entertaining to watch the story develop. Then we had initia­ tion of new campers. Camp just wouldn't be the same without initia­ tion. We held the traditional initiation, which involved using markers to "decorate" the first-time campers. In addition, we did another initiation game, which everyone got a kick out of! Afterwards, we had a dance, and then everyone returned to their cabins to rest up for the next day.

Tuesday and Wednesday followed similar schedules. Flag ceremony was at 7:30 a.m., followed by table Grace and breakfast. The campers were divided into six groups, according to age. Throughout the day, the groups attended hourly sessions which in­ cluded archery, crafts, (basket weav­ ing); hroseback riding, swimming, canoeing, and dancing. On Wednes­ day during dance time, we got to make ice cream. At night (after dinner) there were special activities.

Tuesday night, the LITs planned a "progressive party." Groups rotated every 15 minutes, taking turns at the different games. Games included a water balloon toss, "people-to-people," a beachball game, and a "cow-chip­ drop." We had a pioneer costume con­ test, and the winners were Holly Reynolds (junior girls), Stacey Bran­ don (junior boys) and Stephanie Rebecek (teen girls). The evening con­ cluded with a dance, then everyone went to their cabins.

Wednesday night we danced folk dances like the bunny hop, the Vir­ ginia Reel, and Popcorn. Tim Reese then told a great ghost story, followed by a bubble-blowing contest. Jackie Burleson blew the biggest bubble!

Then we had a dance and the campers returned to the cabins. · Thursday was our last day. It was hard to believe camp was almost over.

After breakfast we had an assembly.

Swimming cards and badges were dis­ tributed, and people said good-byes.

Then everyone cleaned up and got ready to leave.

Camp was great, and it was fun to be an LIT. Although it was my sister Darlene's and my last year, I hope we can go back soon as a chaperone (hint, hint, Marie)! Thanks to everyone who made this camp special, especially SYD Claudette Reese, DYC Marie Stayton, DYC Maxine Pavliska, the leaders and chaperones, the LITs and, last but not least, the campers! Dear Vestnik Readers, I belong to Lodge No. 187 Youth Club. My youth leader is Sharon Hol­ man.

I went to District II Junior Camp from July 25 to July 28. I had a real good time. Our theme was "Pioneer

Days." We did many fun things such as swimming, canoeing, archery' horseback riding, basket weaving, night hikes and a scavenger hunt. We played many games. We had a Penny Carnival and that night we dressed in pioneer outfits. One day we made ice cream like the pioneers did.

I want to thank the Supreme Lodge and everyone else who makes it pos­ sible for us to go to this camp.

Funeral services for Hermina Trlica Lehman were held at 10:00 a.m. April 23 in the Needville United Methodist Church. Burial followed in the Need­ ville Public Cemetery, with Randall Lehman, Calvin Lehman, Russell Leh­ man, Crayden Bosak, Kenneth Miller and Terry Miller serving as pallbearers.

Sister Lehman was born August 23, 1906, in Granger, the daughter of Jno. P. and Vlasta Trlica. She was married to Charlie P. Lehman on June 24, 1933. Her husband preceded her in death.

Sister Lehman taught school in the Needville Independent School District for 41 years before retiring in 1975.

She was a member of the Needville United Methodist Church.

She is survived by two sons, Carl Paul Lehman and wife, Beatrice of Fairchilds; Ben John Lehman and wife, Barbara of Damon; a daughter, Jo Ann Buchan and husband, Bill of Florence; three brothers, Johnny Trlica of Austin, Frank Trlica of Pleasanton and Raymond Trlica of Springfield, Missouri; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Brother Henry is survived by one daughter, Linda Steinhauser of Waco; two grandsons, Larry and Lee Stein­ hauser of Waco; two brothers, Clarence West and Everet West of Missouri; two sisters, Evelyn Brunner of Joplin, Missouri and Ramona West of Carthage, Missouri.

Brother West was a retired truck driver for Southwestern Drugs for 25 years. He was also a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4819, a veteran of World War II, Disabled American Veterans and a member of American Legion.

Brother Henry served three terms as president of SPJST Lodge 66 and was also a past president of RVOS 109. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead and was an SPJST member since May 1958.

Byron J. Palla

Valedictorian Byron Joseph Palla graduated from Lanier High School in Austin on June 2, as valedictorian of his class with a grade point average of 4.61 on a 4.5 scale. He was in the honors' program, taking 27 honors' courses during his four years at Lanier, and he graduated under the Austin ISD Academic Exceltence with Honors Graduation Plan.

Byron served as drum major of the Viking Band, received the John Phillip Sousa Award as a senior, and was named Outstanding Bandsman for two consecutive years. His other band ac­ complishments include being a mem­ ber of the All-City Band, All-City Jazz Band, All-Region Band, and All­ Region Jazz Band, as well as being an active participant in the Texas State Solo/Ensemble Contest for all four years. Byron is also a member of Fritz Hodde and the Fabulous Six, a local dance band, and has been an active member throughout high school.

Byron was a delegate to the American Legion Texas Boys State as a junior. He was awarded the Tracor, Inc. Scholar Award three years in a row, and the Austin ISD Trustee Scholar Award all four years. He was selected as a member of Who's Who Among American High School Stu­ dents for two consecutive years, and he is a member of Outstanding High School Students of America.

Byron will attend The University of Texas at Austin next fall and will major in chemical engineering. He is currently employed at Applied Re­ search Laboratories at Balcones Re­ search Center in Ausitn in affiliation with the Department of Defense High School Apprenticeship Progam at The University of Texas.

Byron is the son of Arthur and Mar­ tha Palla of Austin, all of whom are members of SPJST Lodge No. 29, Taylor. Bryon is a recipient of a 1990 SPJST Scholarship.

Children Honor Parents On Golden Wedding Anniversary

Carl and Christine shared in the celebration of an Anniversary Mass on June 27th at St. Andrew's Catholic Church of which they are charter mem­ bers. Carl's nephew, John Chaloupka, read a brief story of how Carl and Christine met.

Maid of honor, Carlyn Olsovsky Ondrusek, and best man Frank Slovak, unfortunately didn't make the wedding because they had car trouble.

Carl and Christine have been mem­ bers of Lodge No. 92 for many years.

Carl served as past lodge president and is currently our reporter.

Christine is the lodge secretary and has held this position for 21 years.

Both of them are SPJST 50-year members and definitely true frater­ nalists!

Carl has learned to play Taroky and is very faithful attending game night; if he keeps it up, he will be a "pro" before long.

Carl is retired from Thomas Brynes, Inc. Construction Company where he was employed for 47 years.

Czech Heritage Society News The Harris County Chapter of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas will hold its next meeting Sunday, August 26, 1990 at SPJST Lodge Pokrok No. 88, 1435 Beall Street, Houston, Texas.

A fellowship hour will .start at 1 p.m, The business portion of the meeting will start promptly at 2 p.m.

A program, following the business meeting, will be presented by a group of the chapter members who visited Czechoslovakia earlier this year. They will discuss the changes that have taken place in the social and economic activities and attitudes of the people in Czechoslovakia since the November 1989 revolution.

The program will be 'open forum' type of presentation. Jerri Gruber will act as moderator and start the program by telling some of her observations.

Mae Kainer, Clarence Pertl, Linhart Steffek, Rosalee Kostom and Tim Kos­ tom · will serve as an informal panel and also share their experiences with the group. There will be plenty time for questions and answers. The pro­ gram should be particularly interesting to those who are considering visiting Czechoslovakia in the near future. The city of Most sits some 5t I miles northwest of Prague at the center of northern Bohemia 's sprawling indus­ trial heartland. an area rich in brown coal that boasts two dozen power sta­ tions, a massive World WJ.r 11-<..'rJ. pet­ rochemical plant, and numerous foundries and steel mills. There arc, in fact, two Mosts: the vast wasteland oť barren earth and coal tailing, that was once J city of 50.()(X) people, and the sterile, uniform city of gray cement buildings risii1g up next to it. Whm brown coal was discovered beneath the old city's surface 25 years ago, Most was razed and its inhabitants relocated to the new city next door. Only a few of the old buildings were spared. One of thein, a centurie=old church, was moved to the new Most. where it sits now, locked and unused. its basement flooded with water.

Hattie Vitek Hattie Rozacky Vitek was born in Granger, Texas to Rudolph and Fran­ ces Rozacky on July 14, 1894.

She married William "Bill" Vitek in 1910 who died in 1940.

Mrs. Vitek lived in Waco, Texas until 1984 and now resides in the Blue Bonnet Home in Granger, Texas.

Mrs. Vitek had three children, two daughters and one son, all of whom are deceased except one daughter, Elsie V. Steed of Salado, Texas.

She also had four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Vitek was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 20 for over 70 years.

On November 24, 1989. just seven days after students held the dramatic demonstration in Prague that began the country's whirlwind of change, the ChemoPetrol workers, dormant and repressed for so many years, joined the revolution. A thousand plant workers took part in a 15-minute general strike organized by an ad hoc committee that bypassed the govcmment-controllcd trade union and proceeded to press demands on the plant's management.

In short order the workers' com­ mittee ousted the party and the party­ controlled People's Militia from their roles at the plant, earned the right to publish bulletins and use loudspeakers for announcements, and took over the Communist Party's basement office.

Operating under the banner of Civic Forum, by early January they had signed up 4,lXX) of the plant's 11,()(X) workers, established 24 shop-level branches, and were moving to take over the structure of the old trade union, which faded away after it re­ fused to support the strike.

NO\v plant engineers whose ideas were previously ignored are develop­ ing proposals to modernize and im­ p rove the plant's obsolete and ecologically disastrous production techniques. "We want to make this plant safc+-to totally change it," says Pokorny. "The old production units, which are not suitable, have to be closed. Everything must be created from new; it must be totally expert and professional."

Clearly, such solutions will not be painless. Whole sections of the plant may have to dose. and layoffs there and at the nearby coalfields are inev­ itable. Bm it also seems clear that so­ lutions will be pursued, because for the first time Czechoslovakia has a government that is making the envi­ ronment a top priority. In a New Year's speech delivered a few days after taking office, President Havel called Czechoslovakia 's environment "the most contaminated in Europe," and environmental ministries have been created in both the Czech and Slovak republics to address the crisis.

Czech environment minister Mol­ dan, a respected environmental sci­ entist, says his most important tasks will be increasing public awareness of the issues and bringing about major reductions in energy consumption­ and he believes that achieving both goals depends on restructuring the na­ tional economy. Soon he and other new officials will be faced with major decisions on projects planned or al­ ready begun by the old regime.

These include a coke plant, a hy­ droelectric dam planned for the Hun­ garian border, and-most controver­ sial of all-the Temelín nuclear power plant, where two of four planned re­ actors were constructed before work was suspended last year. Environmen­ tal activists, supported by Austrian Greenpeace, hope to stop the plant in

its tracks, while some government leaders see it as an alternative to con­ tinued reliance on coal. Moldan pre­ dicts a compromise in which the two completed reactors will go on-line and the other reactors will be shelved.

Even in the face of such controver­ sies and the nation's bleak ecological history, environmentalists here remain guardedly optimistic, if only because of the euphoria that has greeted the country's massive political changes.

They point out that environmental concerns helped fuel the "tender rev­ olution," and they maintain that eco­ logical change is impossible without political change.

"I am optimistic because I believe that the first prerequisite for really solving our ecological problems is truc dem ocr.icy," savs Mold.m. "\Vítht)Ut public participatiou=-wirhout an ed­ ucated and engaged public-you can­ not do anything."

Time For Second Measles Vaccine?

Your child has a fever that won't break, a sore throat, and finally a rash.

Could these add up to measles? Unfor­ tunatly, YES! Even if your child was vaccinated against measles as a baby, the answer could be YES. Some people vac­ cinated as babies still are not fully im­ mune from measles. And measles is good at picking people out of a crowd.

So doctors now recommend two vac­ cinations: one at 15 months of age, and one at 4 to 6 years of age (right before grade school). The vaccination is given along with vaccines against mumps and rubella, and goes by the abbreviation MMR. The federal centers for Disease Con­ trol tracks outbreaks of illnesses. The measles vaccine was developed in 1963, and after it was licensed, the number of cases decreased dramatical­ ly.

Yet the disease refuses to die. In 1986, there were 6,286 cases reported; in 1988, there were 3,250 cases. Some 7 ,335 cases of measles were reported during the half of 1989, the latest period for which data are available.

The centers for Disease Control says most of the cases occur from March through May. In 1989, forty states and the District of Colunibia reported cases, with the largest outbreaks in Houston, Los Angeles and Chicago.

If your child has a fever, a sore throat, and a rash, call your doctor's office to discuss the symptoms and get advice. Also, if your child hasn't received two immunizations, ask your family doctor if it's dme for another MMR for your child. One shot now could save a lot of grief later!

San Antonio Milé sestry a bratři: Naše červencová schůze, která se konala 15. tohoto měsícenebyla dobře navštívena ale musíme míti na paměti, že teď v létě mnoho lidí jezdí na dovolenou a to též naši členovépatří k této skupině.

Bylo přítomno 24 členů a 3 hosté, paní Rose Babyar ze státu Florida, ona je sestra Mary Poppové, a paní Hazel Davis a její syn oni přivezli Evelyn Kalfusovou do naší schůze, ona je členka našeho řádu, ale měla nemoc­ nou matku přes 4 roky a opatrovala jí až do ledna tohoto roku kdyji ztratila.

President řádu bratr Anthony Triliček zahájil schůzi ve 2 hodiny. Po přísaze věrnosti vlajce uctili jsme památku zesnulých členů jednou minutou ticha.

Sestra Viola Kurtzová zaujala místo tajemnice protože sestra Jarolyn Pop­ pová byla na dovolené s její rodinou.

Viola prečetla zprávy z minulé schůzea také podala finanční situaci a vše bylo přijato beze zrřieny, President Triliček uvažoval, že by jsme měli něco jiného podniknout v měsíci srpnu na příklad míti společný oběd, tak sestra Viola Fajkusová podala návrh aby jsme měli "barbe­ que" v srpnu a bylo to podporováno

v

sestrou MilÓu Phelpsovou. Tak jsem se rozhodli, že náš řád opatří maso a sestry přinesou příkrm a zákusky.

Takhle budeme mít hodně různého jídla na výběr.

V měsíci červnu 4 páry slavili svatební výročí, 56 roků - Adolph a Agnes Popp, 52 roků - Jaroslav a Marcella Kleprlík, 48 roků - James a Lucille Dlugosh a 47 roků - Don a Marie Netek.

Narozeniny v červnu měli, Evelyn Kalfusová, Gertrude Pavliska, James Dlugosh, Jaroslav Kleprlik a Robi Popp.

V červenci 3 páry slavili svatební výročí, 49 roků - Frank a ViolaFajkus, 41 roků - Alvin a Bernice Hájek a 14 roků - David a Kathy Murley.

Narozeniny v červenci měli Frances Kutilová, Kathy Mazačová, Míla Phelpsová, Agnes Reinhardová, Annie Stryková, Edward Mazač a Andrew Rohan.

Gratulujeme všem manželským parkům k jejím výročím a přejeme jim hodně zdraví a štěstí do dalších let.

"Split-the-Pot" vyhráli: 1. Charlie Kurtz a 2. GeorgeSchultz. Dveřní cenu obdrželi: 1. Viola Fajkusová, 2. Thom Davis a 3. Joe Holub.

Po ukončení schůze měli jsme dobrou svačinu, hráli jsme hry a besedovali.

Naše příští schůze bude v neděli 19. srpna. Budeme mít "barbecue", které se začne podávat ve 12.30 hodin a schůze začne ve 2 hodiny odpoledne.

Tak nezapomeňte sestry přinést váš oblíbený příkrm a zákusky a dostavte se v hojném počtu.

Aliefská večerní škola zahají ve středu pátého září 1990 další kurs hovorové češtiny. Toto vyučování bude 12 týdnů, vždy ve středu od sedmi do půl desáté večer v budově vyšší školy Hastings jih (in High School Hastings South). "Kolik řečí znáš, tolikrát jsi člověkem" je pravdivé přísloví jak v češtině tak v jiných jazycích poněvadž znalost jiných řečí je velkou výhodou jak ve veřejném tak i v soukromém životě. Další plus studia češtiny je následující: Česká řeč je slovanský jazyk který náleží do · slovanské jazykové skupiny, jež je největší v Evropě. Znalost češtiny tedy usnadní studia všech ostatních příbuzných slovanských řečí. Okresní schůze CHSOT v Houstoně Srpnová schůze odbočky z Harris okresu Společnosti českého dědictví v Texasu se bude konat v neděli od­ poledne 26. srpnu v řádu Pokrok číslo 88 SPJST, 1435 Beall St., Houston, Texas.

Dveře se otevřou asi v jednu hodinu odpoledne na hodinku k pohovoření a chvilku kamarádství. Bude možné si pohovřit, besedovat, spřátelit a seznámit se jeden s druhým. Také bude příležitost prohlédnout české sbírky a rodinné historie a jiné věci, které budou vyloženy na ukázku. Každý, kdo má zájem o české věci a dějiny anebo kdo má rád dobré české kamarádství, je srdečně pozván být přítomný. Když přijdete, přineste své české věci, které by byly zajímavé na prohlídku pro návštěvníky schůze.

Schůze začne přesně ve 2 hodiny od­ poledne. Program začne asi ve 3 hodiny. Námět programu bude "změny v Českoslovnesku po listopadové revoluci." Jerri Gruber bude vést diskusi. Druzí, kdo mají díl v programu jsou Mae Kainer, Clarence Pertl, Linhart Steffek, RosaleeKostom a Tim Kostom, kteří navštívili Československo letos. Myslím, že to bude velmi zájímavý program pro tý kdo chce navštívit Československo v budoucnosti. Budememít dost času na otázky a odpovědi.

Remeslo má zlaté dno Jeden car si vyjel jednou na loďce, aby se trochu se svou ženou a dcerkou po moři projížděl. Když se vzdálili na kus cesty od břehu, zadul najednou vichr a zanesl loďku do jakési země, které neznali, aniž kdy čeho o ní slyšeli, jakož i v té zemi zase o jejich carstvu nevědělia neslyšeli.Car nemaje peněz s sebou a řemesla nejsa znalý, ani se nepochlubil, že je. car. Ale kterak se živiti? Nezbývalomu nic jiného, než se najmouti k selskému dobytku za pastýře. Tak se živil kolik let. Zatím jim dcerka vyrostla do vdaní a stala se velmi krásnou pannou. Jednou ji viděl carův syn té země, co v ní byli, a hned otci a matce řekl, jiné děvče že si nevezme, než pastýřovu dceru z té a z té dědiny. Otec i matka i všichni dvořané domlouvali careviči, aby se zprostil té hanby, dáti přednost pastýřové dceři před dcerami carskými, královskými a zemanskými. Ale vše darmo. On zůstal při svém: "Ji, žád­ nou jinou!'' Vida, žejinak nedá, poslal car jednoho ze svých vezírů k .pastýři, aby mu oznámil, že car žádá jeho dcery pro svého syna. Když vezír k pastýři přišel a žádost carovu mu vyjevil, zep­ tal se ho pastýř: "Jaké řemeslo má carův syn?" Když tuto otázku vezír slyšel, všecek zdřevěněl: "Blázníš, člověče? Nač řemeslo carovi? Tomu se učí lidé potřební, by se jím živili, a carův syn má hrady, má zem!" -- "Eh, jak nezná řemesla, nedám mu své dcery," odpověděl mu nato pastýř.

Vezír se vrátil k carovi a vyřídil mu pastýřovu odpověď. I povstalo mezi všemi největší divení. Každému se zdálo, že by si to měl pastýr za největší čest pokládati, že by měl poníženě děkovati, když si carský synjeho dceru vzíti chce, a on sprosťák se opováží ptáti, jaké řemeslo zná carův syn! I poslal k němu car druhého vezíra; než pastýř zůstal při svém. "Dokud carův syn," povídal vezírovi, "nějakému řemesluse nenaučí a práce svýchrukou mi nepřinese, nevejdeme spolu v přátelství!'' Kdyžse vezívrátil a vyřídil carovi, že pastýř jeho synu dcery nedá, dokud se nenaučí řemeslu =jakémukoliv, jen když bude řemeslo --a práce svýchrukou mu nepřinese, tu se carův syn sebral, odešel na tržiště, by si nějaké řemeslo vyhlídl. Chodil od krámu ke krámu, přihlížel, kterak mistři pracují, až přišel k jednomu krámku, kde pletli rohože. To se mu zdálo být nejlehčím řemeslem, a tomu se počal učiti. Naučil se tomu za několik dní; když je uměl, upletl pěknou rohožinu a poslal ji pastýři se vzkázáním, takovému řemeslu že se naučil carův syn, a to že práce jeho rukou. Pastýř vzal rohožinu, prohlížel ji se všech stran a pak se ptal: "Zač to stojí?" -- "Za čtyři groše," odpověděli mu. "Eh, dobře," mínil pastýř, "čtyři groše dnes, čtyři zítra, to je osm, a pozejtří, to je dvanáct. Kdybychjá byl jen toto řemeslo znal, nemusil jsem dobytek pásti." Potom jim začal vypravovati, kým je a kterak do země přišel, nad čímž se všichni velice zaradovali. Slavně junáka s dívkou sdali a yeselou svatbu strojili. Potom dali onomu caru loď a on odplul přes moře zpátky do své země.

If you would like to recommend several people, attach a separate sheet and mail to us. ONLY LIFE INSURANCE SALES ON NEW MEMBERS WILL COUNT FOR THIS CONTEST. After we receive your recommendation, we will register it and forward it to a sales representative for contact. All referrals must be registered through the Home Office to count towards the contest.
