*** April 29th -- This weekend concludes the last district spring meeting of the year which will take place at Lodge No. 180 at Burleson in District III. In this issue is the district's schedule of its business and entertainment as well as District III minutes; be sure to read them.

In addition to the district's agenda, the host lodge members will serve a noon meal consisting· of turkey and dressing with all the trimmings in their modern and spacious facilitieson the West Service Road of rn - 35, South of Burleson near Fort Worth.

Lodge 180 also has a convenient canopy where one can drive up to the front door rain or shine, therefore, you won't have an excuse to stay away due to inclement weather. Your presence will be appreciated.

After adjournment, the ladies showingoff their artistic work in quilt making should be interesting and those participating in the horseshoe contest should be exciting. Be there!

Do you know, that the SPJST has been existing successfully for 92 years. We have paid every legal claim, weathered wars, depressions, epidemics and other set - backs.

*** Somepeople wouldrather not take their life insurance proceeds in a lump sum.

Each year policyholders and beneficiaries alike use millions of dollars in policy benefits to provide themsevles with various income plans.

People have used millions of their insurance proceeds for these purposes. For some, this money was used to provide a regular income, either for a specified period odor life, and for others, these funds were held at interest until the policyholder or beneficiary calls for them.

The money thus set aside amounted to a large percent of all benefits.

These included death payments 'to beneficiaries, and · matured endowments and surrender values belonging to policyholders themselves.

Czechoslovakia Tour A Reality

Our inquiries so far have revealed that we will have adequate number of members going on this tour, which is now a reality.

This tour is sponsored by "World Travel" and they are accepting initial down payments.

This is how history will remember him, but we, the Supreme Lodge officers and employees, will remember much more.

We will remember how nice he kept the grounds. Ike always saw to it, that the landscape around the office was the envy of every business in Temple.

We will remember S1EFFEK'S OOMPAH BAND! Ike played accordian; son, Kevin, played tuba and Jim Wiest played trombone. They were best known for playing at Sefcik Hall "each and every Friday night." .:': We remember them playing for the Seatonannual picnic, for the Hermann Sons Christmas Party in Taylor, and for the RVOS Christmas Party in West.

Ike even brought his accordion to entertain an SPJST group on a bus trip to Arkansas.

His proudest moment was winning first place in an accordion playing contest in Granger (Refer to accompanyingphoto) We will remember how he would enjoy teasing the female employees.

He was alwaysthe center of attraction.

We will remember his superstitions and howproudly he wouldspeak of his children, his grandchildren, his garden, his elder trees and his greyhounds.

We will miss Ike. We will miss hearing him say "full speed ahead" when at work and "Oh, Baby Mine" when we joked around with him on breaks.

Camp (66) expenses this year were $7,730.61 and Vestnik Editor's Report -- Rudy Supreme Lodge sent two checks; one Sefcik (54) for 60 percent and one for 40 percent.

Special Reports from Supreme There were a few damages and these Lodge -- Brother Pokladník and were being taken care of. She Brother Gebala mentioned that District Director District III Youth Counselor Pokladník was missed at camp this Bessie Petr (84) year due to his illness and the campers Unfinished or Deferred Business sent a card all signed to him in the New Business hospital. The District III Youth Club Report from Audit Committee has decided to attend Holiday - in - the Report from Nominating Committee Park at Six Flags in December and, Select Site for Fall Meeting prior to that, a party at Lodge No. 84 Announce Winners of Quilt Contest that morning.

District III FAC Contests Dear District III Members: The District III spring meeting will be April 29 at Lodge No. 180, Burleson.

Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood Dear Members and Other Readers: On Sunday, April 1, 1990, at 1 :00 p.m., was a combination of our lodge No. 6 meeting and our Easter Party for all members and families.

The meeting was opened by President Johnnie Krizan. We recited the pledge to our flag and SPJST Motto led by Tammi Dobecka.

We had a nice attendance and thanks for coming.

The minutes of our last meeting were read by Barbara Hykel, treasurer's report by Karen Kroll and financialsecretary's report by George Straten, were also given and were approved as read.

Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz gave her report on the youth club activitiesand list of sickmembers. She sent get well cards to Brother Richard Hykel of Troy, Texas who had the measles, Robert and Lydia Dobecka had the flu. A sympathy card was sent to Rayand Patti Rosales and familyon the passing away of Ray's father of Grand Prairie, Texas.

At this writing, one of our active members, Brother Fred Monthei is in the VAHospital in Temple; he is the husband of our good cook Martha Monthei. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Vice President and FAC Joseph Krizan had no report. (We were glad to have him and his family from Garland present among us.)

Boardof Trustees Chairman George Straten reported a meeting was held Friday night, March 30 at 7:30 p.m. and their discussion was about our

Easter Party, also those who accepted to help out were Ray and Mary Marek to purchase all the groceries, George and Josie Mae Straten to bake all the turkeys on Saturday. The other main cooks on Sunday were Mary lander, Martha Monthei and Frances Chase.

Others who helped were Robert and Lydia Dobecka, George and Josie Mae Straten, Vickie Anderson, Ray and Mary Marek.

A big THANK YOU to all for the good deliciousmeal with all the trimm­ ings they prepared and the tasty homemade Czech sweets brought by several members.

The program was nicelypresented by our lodge youngsters and the Easter egghunt was wellattended. There were more youngsters than adults at this party. I think Easter egg hunt for children is the most excitingday of the year to them.

The additional discussion at the trustees' meeting on March 30 was concerning our annual lodge No. 6 Picnic on July 15, 1990.

President Krizan reminded everyone to be thinking about it, because we always need a lot of help on that day and the day before to prepare and arrange everything. We hope you accept the position you are asked to fill in. More on this subject later and letters will be sent to all members for their help some time in first week of July.

We also have two members who were invited to be present at lodge No. 6 meeting to receive their 50 - year membership pin this year, namely, WillieMae Veselka and Edwin Vrana.

We are sorry they didn't get to attend our meeting.

The other outstanding member is Aunt Katie Krizan who will become 96 years young on November 3rd. She will be entitled to receive her paidup certificate. Isn't all of this wonderful what the SPJST Society does, can do, and will do for the members?

Then came time for today's door prize and Bill Skerik's name was drawn.

Other prizes were a plush orchid rabbit went to Shellie Uptmore _donated by Ruth Krizan; a set of Jergens soap was won by Vickie Anderson donated by Robert and Lydia Dobecka.

The April Fool's gift went to Georgia Skerik donated by Ruth Krizan. (An artificial tarantula spider; we alwayshave a surprise gift for fun.)

Progressive door prize names drawn were: First $10 -- John Rauschhuber, 2nd name of $10 -- Dorothy Hykel of Troy, Texas and 3rd -- Henry Blahuta of Dallas;none of these members were present.

Our next board of trustees' meeting will be Friday, May 4 at 8 p.m. and lodge meeting is May 6 at 1 p.m.

Beforethe meeting a dinner will be served and prepared by Edward and Barbara Hykel family. We always have good meals, so, we want you to come for dinner; you all are always invited.

After our SPJST Lodge 6 meeting, next was our second meeting and election of SPJST Lodge No. 6, Incorporated officers. The meeting was opened by Robert Dobecka.

Nominated for president and elected by acclamation was Johnnie Krizan. Other officers are Vice President Robert Dobecka, Secretary Barbara Jean Hykel, Treasurer George Straten and Purchasing Agent Josie Mae Straten, all were also elected by acclamation.

This ended the two meetings and I am glad to report we had a big attendance for this party. I hope all of you willcome back again for our other

Congratulationsare in order to Ryan Sebek and Donald Malovets, who are the State "42" Domino Champions; Ryan and Donald took first place honors at the state meet and we are proud of you guys.

Also congratulations to Billy Smetanka, Mike Carpenter, Johnny Chervenka and Johnny Svoboda.

Various committee chairmen gave their reports for the month.

Louise Zavodny gave the board report. The board had several recommendations to be voted on. It was decided that, if an adult is intoxicated and misbehaves at the dance, he willbe barred from the hall for one month. If a citation is issued, a 3 - month bar from hall will be enforced. The security officers on du­ ty, that night, will be responsible for enforcing this with the help of members working that night. New stamps will be purchased for our dances, adults will be stamped with a "flag" and minors with a "M," which will help those working behind the bar to identify minors.

The dress policy will be enforced more so than in the past, absolutely "NO HATS" in the hall on dance floor and "NO CANS" on dance floor, there will be action taken if these are not followed.

Members made a motion and if passed to have Carol Chervenkarenew the games license for 1990. Our social games are going really well and everyone is invited to come out for a fun - filled Wednesday game night.

We want to congratulate Janet Macekforwinning first place in the T Shirt Contest. She designed a winning T - shirt logoand will receive a camera for her prize. Congratulations, Janet for a job well done!

Youth Report was given by Youth leader Rose Harvell.

As of March 19, 1990,Flag Hall has becomea corporation, this was done in order to obtain a beer license without having to have one person's name on it.

Door prize winners were Tammy Baker, Mark Macek, Patsy Baker and Bill Smetanka.

Lodge No. 25, Ennis Dear Members: On April 12, 1990, our meeting was called to order by President Ernest Haskovec.

The pledge was led by Brother Kenneth Honza.

Minutes were all read and approved by the membership.

We have two deceased members to report and we had a moment of silence for them. They are Brother Frank Gurecky and Brother Bobbie Joe Watson; these two men will be greatly missed by family and friends.

On our sick list, we have Sister Albina Gurecky and Brother John T. Valek. We will be praying for these members and their families. Get well, soon.

Brother Leslie· Jarolimek asked President Haskovec, if he knew when he became a member of SPJST Lodge No. 25? Well, Brother Leslie here is your answer: On March 14, 1920, you have been a valued member for 70 years! If there is anything else you would like to know, just let us know.

Lodge No. 40, El Campo-Hlllje The regular monthly meeting was held on Monday, April 16th after the social games.

President Rita Vanek called the meeting to order leading members in the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silent prayer was observed for our deceased members, especially for Frank P. Dornak who passed away since our last meeting.

Secretary Leona Macha called the roll of officers; all officers were present, except James Bacak, trustee.

The minutes of our meeting held on March 21st were read and approved.

FAC Dora lee Kopecky presented the calendar · of events for the remainder of the year. All dates and events were approved, as presented, by the members.

Treasurer Madeline Shimek gave the financial report; a complete copy on file subject to audit.

The members approved the following: A $200contribution to Craig - Harris American Legion Post 251 for sponsorship ofa student to Boys State; Hiring the Opportunity Center 'to properly maintain lodge building as 'to cleaning, waxing and buffing the floor; Accepting John C. Merta as a new member; Sunday, June 10th set as Family Day honoring 50 - year members; a covereddish dinner by lodge members andlodge to furnish meat; time -- 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Lodge No. 54, West The first quarterly meeting of 1990 was held at lone Star Hall on Friday, March 2 at 7:30 p.m.

President Ted Kocian called the meeting to order and led us in the recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Everyone remained standing for a few moments of silence in honor of our departed member, Robert Reznicek, who died on December 23, 1989.

Secretary Anne Emery read the minutes of December 3, 1989 meeting.

These were approved as read.

An item of correspondence from Supreme lodge President Howard Leshikar was read, regarding ten members who are to receive their 50 year membership pins in 1990. These members are Bohus J. Chupik, Agnes Dujka, Raymond W. Hutyra, Albina Kacir, Rudolph M. Matula, lillian Nemecek, Ilean I. Opella, Rudolph J. Sefcik, Mary A. Shebesta and louis J. Wernet, Sr. We congratulate these members on reaching this important milestone in their SPJST membership.

It was decided to have someone from the Home Office to be present at our next meeting to present the pins to these honorees. We encourage all to invite members of their families to attend this ceremony. Refreshments and food will be served and photos will be taken.

Financial Secretary Maxine Sefcik gave a lengthy financial report, which was approved as read. We welcome the following new members to our lodge, namely, Mindy Nicole Emery and Michael Shane Matusek -- youth and Robert Shebes ta, Jr., -- adult.

Treasurer Freddie Kaluza gave his report; this, too, was approved as read.

President Kocian commended Brother Jan Vaculik on his good work in composing and publishing the Hospodar.

This is quite an accomplishment! Brother Vaculik is an active member of Lodge 54 and is our Czech reporter.

FAC Maxine Sefcik reminded all members to turn in their hours and money spent on fraternal activities for 1989. The forms are available and this should be done as soon as possible.

Our next meeting will be held on Friday, June 1 at 7:30 p.m. in lone Star Hall. Everyone is encouraged to attend and enjoy the festivities.

Remember, we will be honoring our 50 - year members and their families.

Sister Beanie Kacir was the winner of the door prize. The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed fellowship, refreshments and snacks.

Lodge No. 66, Waco Dear Members 'and Readers: The meeting was called to order by President Mary Alice l.anglotz at 2:30 p.m.

Flags were presented by Jesika Tierce and Ashley Locke. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Sandra Trickett and lodge Motto by Alicia Neslony.

All officers were present, except Youth leader Gladys Yates, Sister Darlene Engelke and Sister Dorothy Shilling. · The minutes were read by Secretary Bonnie Pruitt, they were approved as read. She also read a correspondence from Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar thanking for an invitation to our May monthly meeting to present the 50 - year pins to Sister Emma Ceska and Brother John Kofnovec.

The minutes of the Board of Trustees' April meeting were read and approved.

The Entertainment Committee reported that they will serve ham and turkey and members are asked to bring a dessert and a vegetable dish; our lodge will furnish drinks.

Brother Geo. Pauling gave the fraternal activities' report and also read a correspondence from State FAC Frank Klinkovsky about the past Taroky Tournaments that were held.

Brother Geo. Pauling also gave the results of lodge No. 66 Taroky winners at the tournament. They were Johnny Gaidusek, 1st and Tim Urbanek, 2nd.

Our next social game night will be on May 14th at 7:00 p.m., so be sure to come and enjoy your favorite game, bring a snack.

Youth Leader Gladys Yates reported; there were sixteen members and one visitor present at the youth meeting, they held an Easter egg hunt and had a visit from Easter Bunny, they have cleaned up their highway project, they will make corsages for the Moody Nursing Center, and they will have a Mother's Day program at the May meeting.

New members accepted were Johnny H. Reech III, Christopher Kofnovec, Robert lee Powell, Z.achery Teal Kregan and Katherine W. Sulak.

We welcome you to our lodge and hope you will attend our activities whenever you can.

Get well cards . were sent to Mary Jaska, Jerry Pruitt, Arthur Schiemenz and Geo. Tryny.

Sympathy cards were sent to Ray and Ruby Orsag.

Sister Emma Ceska is our new bookkeeper and she gave her report.

There was an election for a new board of trustee member and the new board of trustees member is Brother Robert Cervenka.

The beer for our meeting was donated by Sister Mary Alice l.anglotz in honor of her hus band's birthday.

Our door prize winner was Paul Neslony.

Member celebrating his birthday in April was Arthur l.anglotz. The birthday cake was brought by Jeskia Tierce.

After adjournment, we enjoyed a lunch of good hamburgers, desserts, coffee and tea. Everyone enjoyed visiting, playing cards as well as dominoes. I'll see you next month!

Lodge No. 79, Corpus Christi On April 8, the monthly meeting was called to order at 1 p.m. by President Eugene Hrncir. There was a fair attendance.

A moment of silence was observed in memory of deceased member, Brother louis F. Malek.

The treasurer's report was given by Treasurer Jerry Sijansky and was accepted as given.

Youth leader Kay Majek gave-a report on the activities for the youth club. They will be selling ads to be on a poster as their fund - raiser, because they plan on making a trip to Six Flags in the summer and they need to make money to pay for it. The poster will be advertising SPJST in the area, with the youth club featured, which seems to be a popular form of advertising.

Sister Kay and her assistant, Sister Cheryl Majek, had attended the Youth leader's Retreat; both said they really enjoyed it and learned a lot. She suggested all the members of lodge No. 79 be involved for the District VII YAD coming up on July 29th.

A motion was made and seconded that the $50 charity donation for March and April be donated to the Susan Bohnenberger Benefit Fund.

This was approved.

A motion made and seconded that the lodge purchase a 4' x 6' chalkboard on wheels; this was approved. It will be stored at the hall to have on hand when needed, such as elections. Also a motion made and seconded that Brother Jerry Sijansky be authorized to look into purchasing a portable ping pong table; this was approved. This table will also be stored at the hall for use of youth and others.

After our meeting was adjourned, several games were played, participated by everybody, adult and youth and all had fun. For Easter egg hunt, everybody hunted eggs and had a good game. Sister Kay Majek and Sister Cheryl Majek led all the activities, which had to be held in the hall because it wss a rainy day.

To conclude a fun - day, everyone enjoyed the· picnic lunch before heading home.

Lodge No. 92, Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends: Spring is trying to come but it's having a hard time doing so. April 7 was a frost on roof tops that looked like snow had fallen and the ground also had frost on it. Let's hope it didn't damage the tender plants that were planted. Now it's storm time -- April 5 there were high winds and large hail in the southern part of Fort Worth, some places west of here and more damage.

A few weeks ago many ofus had the choice to vote for our party governor of Texas. Now, we will have to vote in November for the governor of Texas.

It's a shame that when there is an election that each candidate talks uncomplimentary about each other; what we need is someone who will help people and the state.

We were saddened to learn that two of our members had passed away, namely, Sister Mary (Kala) Powers and Sister Millie (Kratky) Waters; these two fine ladies have been wonderful members and will be missed very much. To the surviving families, we ex­ press our condolences and may these departed sisters rest in peace.

Please keep in mind: When our older members pass away is the reason why we need our younger members to attend our meetings and get accustomed with lodge meetings and how to keep lodge our lodge active.

Perhaps most of you know that many accidents happen in homes, so be careful because no one knows when something may happen along the way; like myself, I was getting a turkey out of the deep freeze and somehow I got off balance and separated two ribs.

There isn't much a person can do about ribs, but only have pains.

However, I went to the hospital and had X-rays made and was told: not to do any work, bending over or lifting. If you ever had ribs broken, you know it's hard to take a deep breath. I'm feeling much better now, hoping it will be healed.

We, at lodge No. 92, will be having a Tarok Tournament for the first time on May 19, 1990. This will be an open tournament which is for all who play Taroky. Remember, you don't have to belong to SP JST; the date is SATURDAY, MAY 19th and you need to register at 8:30 a.m. and game time will be at 9:30 a.m. There will also be a • small entry fee which includes a noon meal. In addition, there will be prizes for four top players who will have the highest score.

In fact, there will be more about this in the Vestnik, so, please mark your calendar for that date. We really want to put on something which we will be proud of -- a good day of entertainment and good fellowship.

This project will help keep lodges fraternal and tax - exempt. Those of you who wish to learn to play Taroky, come to our lodge on the first and third Tuesday night of each month and there will be ample people teaching you, which is a wonderful game and which was played in the old country and now is popular over the State of Texas.

We welcome members from other lodges to come to our game nights, so mark your calendar for May 19th.

The April meeting was· well attended. We had two new tables that games were played on and we will have more before the tournament.

Some members donated two tables and our lodge will buy the other tables needed.

An Easter egg hunt followed the meeting for our youth club members and guests. Everyone had a good time finding hidden egg s. The young group in ages 2 to 5 years had assistance

from their grandparents or parents. It was fun watching these children scram­ ble for eggs.

After the children were finished with their egg hunt, there was a beer hunt for adults who found a few cans of beer to drink. I believe someone found a can of beer from last year that was under some dirt. At any rate, the ladies prepared a super meal when our meeting adjourned. This meal was done by Sisters Clara Cohen and Florence Greer, which was fit for a king and, as always, there were plenty of pastries. We thank all these ladies even those who bring pastries to our meetings. We always enjoy eating pastry and need to sample at least two different types of sweets.

Our next lodge meeting was changed to the FIRST SUNDAY (MAY 6) due to Mother's Day (on the second Sunday), so don't forget our meeting

changed to: MAY 6th at 2 p.m.

The next dance at our lodge will take place on Sunday, April 29th, which is sponsored by the KJT from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Please try to attend dances that are held at our lodge. All fraternal lodges should try to attend each other's activities. We enjoy them and I am sure they would enjoy us.

Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends: We hope you all had a nice Easter.

Our picnic had to be held at the hall due to some much rains; the ground was too wet. We had a large turnout and it was enjoyed by all, also a lot of food and fun.

Winners in the egg hunt in ages 5 and under were: 1st place -- Appa Hargis, 2nd -- Allye Ellwanger, 3rd -­ Melanie Mason, 4th -- Megan Matheny, 5th -- Elizabeth Steinman.

In ages 8 and older: 1st and 2nd places -- Ky Cleveland, 3rd -- (wasn't found), 4th -- Shane Pace, 5th -­ Shannon Milan.

Egg toss winners in ages 1 and up were I.aura Simmons and Shannon Milan.

Women's team was a tie with Vicki Steinman and Sarah Segars, Marilyn Milan and Roxanne Ellwanger.

Men's team: Shay Hennesey and Josh Milan.

Mixed men's and women's team was a tie with Koy and Lee Griffin, Roxanne and Deke Ellwanger.

Beer hunt winner was Grey Belcher.

The fun was had by all.

We extend our get well wishes to Sister Agnes Merlick who was

hospitalized and now is home and to Roy Alholm; get well, soon!

We extend our sincere sympathy to Brother Slim Waters (Lodge 92) and family on the loss· of his wife Sister Millie. May she rest in peace.

We extend our congratulations to some of our newly - weds: Sister Carrie Ann and Stephen Whitely were wed March 17, 1990 in a beautiful ceremony at the Castleberry Baptist Church, followed by a dinner and dance at the hall, they arrived home safely in Chesapeake, Virginia after a week's honeymoon in Bermuda (Carrie Ann is the daughter of Brother Bobby and Sister Carolyn Oeveland and the granddaughter of Brother Joe and Sister Carrie Milan); to Brother Johnny and Ann (Peterson) Gregory who were wed March 31, 1990 (Johnny is the son of Brother Joe and Sister Elizabeth Gregory); and to Melissa Lynn and Robert Wayne Breed who were wed April 7, 1990. Melissa is the daughter of Brother Johnny Gregory.

May they all have a long and happy life together.

Now it's Mother's Day coming up on our meeting date Sunday, May 13th.

We will have, as in the past preceding our meeting, a dinner at 2 p.m. Our lodge will furnish the meat dish and you are asked to bring vegetables, salads or pastry. See you then.

Minutes from March 6th meeting were approved. Officers gave good reports.

We welcomed our new member Warren O'Donley, Traveling was Kitty Rippin making a trip to California. We were glad to have visitor Albert Hess from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who is a service buddy from World War II of the Louis Grochoskes. They must have had a lot to reminisce about.

The District III spring meeting for April 29, 1990 is fast approching. We hope a lot of you are planning on coming, because we would like to have a good attendance. Our meal will consist of turkey, dressing - gravey, mashed potatoes, broccoli cauliflower with cheese sauce, salad and dessert. Registration will start at 9:30 a.m. After the meeting, there will be a horseshoe contest and a quilt contest. · Our next lodge meeting will be held May 1, 1990; the regular meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. and board of trustees' meeting at 6:30 p.m.

~ The Czechoslovak Foreign Institute (Československý ústav zahraniční) of Karmelitska 25, 11821, Praha 1, Czechoslovakia has just announced that summer classes for students of the Czech language will be conducted at Charles University, Prague and the Regional Pedogogic Institute, Brno during the summer period July 3 - July 29, 1990.

The cost of this program is $350, which includes room and board -- 3 meals daily, lodging in the dormitory, after class visits in and around the city, weekend excursions to historic and interesting sights in Czechoslovakia, plus concerts and theater performances.

Text books, mimeographed texts and other instructional aids will be provided by the school.

Each student must pay for his/her own travel expenses from home in the USAto Prague and return, plus cost of Czechoslovak visa. More information on the cost of a group flight leaving theLl.S. on Monday, July 2, arriving in Prague Tuesday, July 3 and returning July 27 will be available in a later bulletin.

We were also sorry to hear Janet Steelman, daughter of Elma Anderson took a turn for the worse, and to Roy Alholm. We wish you all a speedy recovery.

Jo Prochaska thanked everyone for inviting friends and family to attend our last meeting on Citizens Against Crime Personal Assault.

Mikush Reunion The 29th annual Mikush family reunion has been set for July 1, 1990 at the American legion Hall in Hallettsville, Texas, beginning at 10:30 a.m. until ?? You are asked to bring a covered dish. Several years ago many families became involved in compiling the family history. After several years of researching, they will have the books at the reunion for the families to proofread and update them before going to press. The families' histories involves: Stepan Zajicek, Joseph, Martin and Paul Mikush , the Galetkas, the Gebauers, the Sklars and the Machacs; all these families came from what is known as Czechoslovakia.

From The Youth Leaders Lodge No. 6 Cottonwood Youth Club Dear Members and Friends: The youth club meeting was held April 1st. We had a good attendance and all visitors come back.

On March 11, our youth club went bowling, a total of eighteen (14 youth members and 4 adult members) came to bowl at TSTI Campus. We had a lot of fun.

The youth club donated items to few charities.

After our meeting on April 1st, the club members presented their short program and its theme was "The Meaning of Easter." Several of them participated in the following parts: Welcome by Sarah Speight Individual recitations were by Celia Dobecka, Samantha Hrabal, Susan Hrabal, Julie Krizan, Sharon Hrabal and Emilie Anderson.

Songs by rest of the youth After our program, the youth had an Easter egg hunt and we had three divided groups: Ages 1 through 5 group was taken care of by Peggy Dobecka and Karen Kroll. Prize winners in this group included Jake Williams - 1st, Bradley Kroll - 2nd, Jennifer Mechell - 3rd.

Ronny Hrabal, Vickie Anderson and Patti Rosales were in charge of 6 to 8 group and prize egg winners were: Susan Hrabal - 1st, Samantha Hrabal 2nd, Brittany Halamek- 3rd.

Kevin Dobecka and Keith Hykel took charge of9 to 12 age group. Prize

egg winners were Elizabeth Straten 1st, Will Straten - 2nd, Celia Dobecka - 3rd.

I didn't get everyone's name who helped bunny rabbit, however, Iwant to thank all the people who assisted, as well as those who donated toward our drawing prizes and donated food.

The youth club made Easter baskets for West Rest Haven and brought them to the rest home on April 9th.

Birthday celebrants in April are Stacy Mynar and Keith Hykel.

Attention; District VII Youth Clubs Dear Youth: SPJST Youth Club No. 107, of Floresville, will be hosting a district wide overnight lock - in at the Floresville (Lodge No. 107) Hall on Friday, May 4, 1990.

Arrival time will be any time after 6 p.m. The lock - in will let you in but not let you out once when you arrive, until next day.

Bring your bedding supplies, snacks, sodas, a favorite game or music. Please bring a baby picture of yourself(even the adults have to bring a picture).

Please let us know if your club is coming and how many, so we can plan on how much we need for meals; supper that night will be furnished along with breakfast.

We plan to have a lot of fun playing games and getting to know one another better. I hope to see you on Friday, May 4th at Lodge No. 107's Lock - in.

Lodge No.172, Pasadena Dear Youth Members, Members of Pasadena lodge No. 172 Youth Club met on March 28, 1990, after a covered dish dinner with the adult lodge.

We discussed going to the nursing home. We practiced making animal balloons and presented them to the committee and trustee members. The kids had a lot of fun doing the animal balloons.

We had a drawing and, with the money that they made, they voted to buy their camp shirts with it.

Some of our youth went to the DistrictVspring meeting at lodge No. 142, which was a very nice event.

Leslie Watkins and Misty Setliff. of our youth club, helped with the memorial service.

Twoof our youth club members now have a part on the District V Youth Club; Misty Setliff is treasurer and Leslie Watkins is reporter.

Congratulations to both of you!

On Monday, April 2, 1990, Eric Zucka, Brynne Zucka, Nicole Zucka, Misty Setliff, Leslie Watkins, Belinda · Watkins, Lisa Pruitt and James Pruitt went to the nursing home to sing and make each one of the residents an animal balloon. Belinda Watkins was dressed as a clown. Thanks to Mary Zucka for helping me. We made puppies and rabbits to hand out. The folks at the home really enjoyed it.

Afterwards, we went to Casa Ola. Some of our youth memberes went to the District V Easter Party at lodge No. 88 in Houston. Leslie Watkins won first prize in his age group. The night before, some of us went to lodge No. 88 to colorabout 35 dozen eggs, which was a lot of fun.

District V is planning a trip to Huntsvilleon Saturday, April 21, 1990 and I hope a majority of our group plans to attend.

I want to see some reports from my youth in the Vestnik.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the members of lodge Nova Doba No. 122 of Wallis, Texas on behalf of our membership, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our departed brother AI.FRED A. MOZOIA,

who passed away on October 18, 1989 at Memorial City Hospital, in Houston, at age 77.

Serviceswere held from the Knesek Funeral Home Chapel, in Wallis, at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, October 21, with Rev. Robert Kelley officiating. Burial was in the Wallis City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Jerry Schiller, Kenneth Egger, Keith Kocurek, Frank Mozola, Emil Stephan and W.E. Stepan.

Born July 25, 1912, in Wallis, Brother Mozolawas the son of Frank J. and Julia Marek Mozola. He was reared in Wallis and was a 1931 graduate of Wallis High School. On

December 23, 1939, he married Elsie Zhanel in East Bernard, Texas.

Brother Mozola was a home building contractor and carpenter by trade.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church, president of Wallis Oty Cemetery Association for 25 years, a member of the Blue lodge Masonic lodge, in East Bernard, and a 32nd Degree Mason and also a Shriner.

Survivingare his wife, Elsie Mozola of Wallis; daughter, Doris Sparks of Houston; two sons, Jim Mozola of Houston and John Mozolaof Amarillo; four sisters, Libbie Klare of Wallis, Mary Egger of Rosenberg, Julia Kocurek of Houston, Tillie Brast of Bellville;one brother, Frank Mozolaof Simonton; also four granddaughters, two grandsons and one great grandson.

May he rest in eternal peace.

On behalf of the entire membership of lodge No. 48, Beyersville, we wish WAL1ER BYRON MCDONAID, JR., to express our sympathy to the family who passed away Sunday, April 1, of our departed brother 1990, in a San Antonio hospital.

JOSEPH RAYMOND ZAMORSKY, Mr. McDonald lived in Austin, who died January 2, 1990 in the Texas and was formerly of Oenaville; Veterans Hospital in Temple, Texas. he was 79 years of age.

Mr. Zarnorskywas born in Taylor on He was born in Oenaville to Walter Byron and Leona Gidley McDonald. October 28, 1922 to the late Stanley He retired fromthe U.S. Air Force as a and Albina (Simcik)Zamorsky.

He was a member of Taylor Master Sergeant in 1964. He married Brethren Church, American Legion Ruth Cassidy in September, 1946.

He was preceded in death by his and SPJSTlodge. He was a veteran of parents, a brother, a sister and a WWII, serving in the Air Force.

Funeral services were held in Taylor grandson.

Survivors are his wife, Ruth Brethren Church with Rev. James D. McDonaldof Austin, Texas; a son, Bill Hejl and Rev. Dan Marek officiating.

Cassidy of San Marcos; a brother, Bill Burial was in Taylor Oty Cemetery.

Nephews served as pallbearers.

Okresní schůze CHSOT v Crosby Dubnová schůze odbočky z Harris okresu Společnosti českého dědictví se bude konat asi v jednou hodinu v neděli odpoledne 29. dubnu v síni Amerických legie (American Legion Hall) v Crosby, FM 2100 naproti ob­ chodu Wal-Mart. Tato schůze bude páté výročí odbočky, která byla založena v roce 1985.

Bude možné besedovat a prohled­ nout si zajímavé české sbírky a rodinné historie, které budou vyložené na ukázku mezi 1. a 2. hodinou.

Odbočková schůze začne přesně ve 2 hodiny. Po schůzi John Janáček, redaktor a vydavatel Dewitt County View v Yorktown, přinese zajímavý program. Pan Janáček se narodil v okolí Eastgate nedaleko od Crosby.

Námět jeho přednášky bude historie Šechů v okolí Crosby a Eastgate.

Vypadá, že to bude velmi zajímavy orogram.

Obnova Sokola Demokratický vývoj v československé společnosti otevírá možnosti pro další rozvoj současných organizací i pro vznik nových spolků a občanských iniciativ, které vstupují do veřejného dění. Tento trend proniká i do tělovýchovného hnutí. Důkazem toho je ustavující sjezd Československé obce sokolské, který se uskutečnil v lednu 1990 v Praze. Po dvaačtyřiceti letech byla obnovena tradiční sokolská organizace.

Udělejme si krátký výlet do šedsátých let minulého století. V této době bojoval český i slovenský národ v Rakousko-Uherské monarchii o své sebeurčení. K velice pokrokovým lidem tehdy patřili Miroslav Tyrš a Jindřich Fugner. Oba muži snili o širokém roz­ voji tělesné výchovy. Jedinou možnou cestu vedoucí k vytvoření zdatného národa, který by dokázal čelit jakékoliv porobě, viděli v organizování tělovýchovných jednot, vychovávajících své členy k duchovní i tělesné ukázněnosti. Proto 16. února 1862 založili první český tělocvičný spolek Sokol Pražský. M. Tyrš se stal jeho náčelníkem a J. Fugner prvním

postavení žen ve společnosti, se však starostou. Mladé tělovýchovné jednotě ženy ve vysokých politických funkcích vdechli hlavní rysy svých osobností: prakticky nevyskytovaly. Pokud ano, demokratismus, vlastenectví, pak sporadicky a jen tam, kde nemohly myšlenky rovnosti a bratrství, nadělat moc "škody".

Václav Havel se narodil 5. 10.

1936v Praze.Vyučil se chemic­ kým laborantem a v této profesi 'působil od roku 1951 do roku

1955, současně vystudoval ve­ černí gymnázium. V roce 1955 začal studovat na ekonomické fakultě českého vysokého učení technického v Praze. Studium nedokončil a v roce 1957nastou­ pil do základní vojenské služby.

Po návratu - v roce 1959 - začal pracovat jako jevištní technik v pražském Divadle ABC. V roce 1961 nastupuje. do Divadla Na zábradlí jako jeho drsmaturq, asistent režie a autor. V roce 1967 ukončil studium na diva­ delní fakultě Akademie muzic­ kých umění v Praze. O rok po­ zději se stal členem Klubu anga­ žovaných nestraníků a předse­ dou Klubu nezávislých spisova­ telů. Projeho politické a umělec­ ké názory mu byla po roce 1968 zakázánauměleckáčinnost. Mu­ sel odejít z divadla, bylo mu zne­ možněno vydávat knihy a ne­ směly se hrát jeho divadelní hry.

Po roce 1969 prošel mnohými dělnickými profesemi, mimo jiné pracoval jako dělník v pivovaru.

V letech 1970-S9 byl třikrát vězněn a ve vězení strávil při­ bližně pět let. Je jedním zezakla­ datelů a první mluvčř Charty 71, člen Výboru na obranu nespra­ vedíívě stíhaných, člen PEN klu­ bu v CSSRa v řadě jiných zemí, mj. ve Francii, Rakousku, Švéd­ sku a Švýcarsku.V roce 1982 mu byl udělen titul doktor honoris causa Univerzity v Toulouse - le Mirail ve Francii. Loni mu byla udělena cena Olofa Palmeho a mírová cena západoněmeckého knižního obchodu.

Václav Havelje znám jako bo­ jovník za lidská práva v Česko­ slovensku, ale také jako vý­ znamný spisovatel a dramatik.

Je autorem šestnácti divadel­ nich her (mimo jiné: Ztížená možnost soustředění, Audien­ ce, Vernisáž, Largo desolato, Asanace) a několika knih (na­ příklad Protokoly, Pokus žít v pravdě, Dopisy Olze, Noc bez­ mocných, Do ruzných stran).

Za své občanskéa morální po­ stoje byl mnohokrát oceněn evropskými institucemi a po dlouhá léta symbolizoval občan­ ská hnutí proti bezpráví v Čes­ koslovensku (cena Jana Pala­ cha udělená Mezinárodním vý­ borem na podporu Charty 77 v r.

1982, cena Erasma Rotterdam­ ského v r. 1986, Cenasvobody v r. 1989 a mnohédalší).

Po událostech 17. listopadu 1989, který(Jlizačala,,něžná"re­ voluce v Ceskoslovensku, se stává předním představitelem Občanskéhofóra, které iniciova­ lo návrat Československak jeho demokratickým tradicím. 29. prosince byl poslanci Federální­ ho shromážděn! zvolen prezi­ dentem CSSR.

Papež v dubnu Po novoročním projevu prezidenta Václava Havla, ve kterém uvedl, že by byl šťasten, kdyby Československo letos navštívil papež Jan Pavel II., se s předpověďmi papežova příjezdu roz­ trhl pytel.
