Uncorrected Minutes Of A Special Meeting Of The Supreme Lodge SPJST Held February 23, 1990 At The Home Office In Temple, Texas The meeting was called to order at 10 a.m. with all Supreme Lodge members present: Howard B. Leshikar, Pres.

Vanek - VI, Vice Chairman of the Board Thelma Hrncir - Vil The purpose of the meeting is to consider the draft of Goals and Objectives for the SPJST. During opening comments, President Leshikar complimented the Board on having the foresight to make long range goals ror the organization. He said it was important to set the strategy for implementing the goals.

Chairman of the Board Pokladnik spoke of the importance of brainstorming that will take place today. He called attention to the need for the entire Board to voice its input in the goals and objectives.

It was agreed that the third draft of the Goals and Objectives would' be considered item by item to attempt to reach a consensus on goals, objectives and strategies. Final approval of the package was to be deferred until the entire Board has discussed each item and the entire package can be considered for approval. The goals and objectives would be based on a review of past performance and future objectives of the organization. No formal motions would be made · on reaching a consensus on an item by item basis. Discussions would be conducted on an iriformal basis.

Recess for lunch was taken from 12 noon until 1:15 p.m. Informal discussion and formulation of the draft of Goals and Objectives continued.

The work on the Goals and Objectives was not finished and it was decided to set another Special Supreme Lodge Meeting for March 26, 1990 at 9 a.m. to give further consideration to Goals and Objectives for the SPJST. Chairman of the Board Pokladnik adjourned the meeting at 5:50 p.m.

District VI Spring Meeting

This note is to iriform the members of Lodge No. 9, Snook and the members of District I that the District I meeting will be hosted by Lodge No. 9 of Snook, Texas. The date is April 8 at 2 p.m. District I President Clint Luksa informed me that there will be a special meeting of thé officers starting at about 1 p.m.

The youth department, I am 'told, will also have a program after the meeting.

Refreshments will be served by the ladies of our lodge.

Lodge No. 10 was one of thé original charter lodges started in 1897. It grew and prospered every year until the early 1990s, when interest started fading. By 1985, Lodge Texaský Mír had no officers, no sales representatives, nor did it even hold lodge meetings. It had become a dormant lodge -- alodge in name only.

A few years later, a handful · of persistent members, realizing the value of SPJST membership to the individual as well as the community, decided to re .:. organize the 'lodge and called upon District VI Director Matt S. Vanek for assistance. Director Vanek, assisted by SFR Jerome J. Hlavaty, proceeded to take the necessary steps toward re · organization. Those few "stubborn members" (as Sister Valenta put it) became the new lodge officers.

According to Sister Valenta, the · single most important factor in the lodge's success is Sales Representative Jeffry J. Chunda.

Jeffry was trained as a new sales representative at the same time the re :. organization was taking place. With the support· of the 'Iodge and its members, Jeffry became a great success.

Wayne Spiller reported that the Audit Committee met with Treasurer Ella Arnold and, as usual, all records are in order.

Congratulations 'to lodge No. 32 member John Hnatek who will be receiving his 50 - year pin from the Supreme lodge.

Once again, we congratulate Ella Arnold for being selected as a finalist for "Fraternalíst of the Year." We are very proud of her and her accomplishments.

Luetge Benefit At Lodge No. 33, Bleiblerville A beef and turkey stew benefit will be held March 18, 1990 at the Bleiblerville Hall for the Milton K. Luetge, Jr. family who lost all of their possessions in a fire recently.

Stew may be purchased to go from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.; serving will be from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m ..

Donations of$4 for adults and children (6 - 12), $2 (for all you can eat and drink included). There will be pies and cakes available.

Lodge No. 47, Seaton The March 4, 1990 meeting of SPJST lodge No. 47 was called to order by President George Pavelka at 2:00 p.m, Flag bearers brought in the flag and led our membership in the pledge to the flag.

Visitors recognized were Gertrude Kahlig, Ann Balusek, Freddie Schroeder, Henry (Sonny) Hutka, Edna Voltin and Mary Ann Gregar; do come, again.

District II Director Willie E. Kohutek introduced our special guest and visitor, Alice Ann Wallace, a candidate running for 53rd District State Representative. She stated that it is very important that everybody does vote; nobody can buy your vote.

Henry (Sonny) Hutka was also recognized.

He was representing Hugh Shine who was not able to be with us . He had a previous

engagement and sent his regrets.

Dana Glaser was appointed as secretary for this meeting in the absence of Secretary Delores Skrabanek because her husband, Calvin, was rushed to the hospital. We are wishing Calvin a very speedy recovery! The minutes of our previous meeting and all correspondence were read.

Martha D. Turner was introduced and accepted as our new member; do come, again.

Reported on the sick list were Olga Schroeder, Dorothy Entrop, Conley Neal, George Divis, Ella Pomykal, Joe Chlapek and Ike Steffek.

The State Royalty will be held at Lodge No. 47 on August 18th. We' are all looking forward to it.

President Pavelka thanked Edwin Vasicek, Robert Heese, Woodrow Marek, Wallace Jez, Henry Vitek, Gene Hejl, James Skrabanek, Gary Skrabanek (our goofer), Jimmie Schroeder, Henry Janacek, Ann Hejl, Delores Skrabanek, Diane Pavelka and Marie Pavelka for coming out on February 17th to our work day; we did get a lot accomplished.

All officers and chairpersons gave very satisfactory reports.

FAC Tim Reese reported the local Lodge "42" Tournament will be March 16th; registration at 6:30 p.m. and game time at 7:00 p.m. Also there are Taroky Tournaments springing up all over the state. It is important that we show fraternalism within our area and also support the programs in our lodge as well as in programs in other lodges.

FAC Committee members appointed are Joyce Skrabanek, Ruth Hanusch, Dana Glaser, Dorothy Kohutek and Dorothy Pechal.

Youth Leader Patsy Koslovsky reported that there were 38 members and 8 visitors, also David Hejl was our 50th member to join the Youth Oub. There will be an Easter egg hunt at our next meeting on April 1st.

The Audit Committee will meet on April 3rd at 7:00 p.m.

District II Director Willie E. Kohutek gave a summary of the Local Lodge Officers' Workshop, which was held February 24th at Lodge No. 24 (Flag Hall) in Cyclone. He gave key points of what the meeting consisted of.

All sales representatives were recognized. They are the backbone of our organization. A thank you for a job well done.

Our Annual lodge No. 47 Picnic was discussed. We have had several members volunteer for different booths.

District II spring meeting will be held on Sunday, March 18th at Taylor Lodge No. 29.

We will be honoring twenty of our 50 - year members on April 1st. We will have a · covered dish dinner following the meeting. Ladies are asked to bring vegetables, salad and/or dessert.

Lodge No. 63, Sweet Home lodge No. 63, Sweet Home will hold its regular monthly meeting and social on March 18, 1990 at the Firemen's Hall in Sweet Home, beginning at 1 :30 p.m. The usual lodge business will be conducted, with reports from the various committees. Some of us visited the dance and observed the big crowd · of happy people. The music was by Bobby Jones Orchestra and The Texas Dutchmen. Those in charge· of the dance were Era. Richards, John Clometa, Mr. and Mrs. Wheeler and Mr. and Mrs. lee Flories. As usual, they were kept busy trying to keep everybody happy. There were many people from far and near who attended, even my children, Al and Arlene Marshall from Weimar, came and had a "blast." lillie Spies, our treasurer of the Birthday Club, was one happy lady last week when her only daughter, Agnes and husband, Joe Foster, who live in London came for a week's visit.

It's like lillie said, they tried to do so much iri one week, that she's almost wore out, but it was a pleasure indeed.

I think lillie would be happy if Shell Oil would transfer them back to Houston. I know she misses "Aggie" and Joe a lot.

Our sweet little lady, Mrs. Annie Baethe, 100 years of age in July, 1989 unfortunately fell and broke her hip.

She's in the Heights Hospital in Houston. Evelyn Mikolas, her daughter wholivedwith her says she's holding her own. Mrs. Baethe's daughter from Dallas and son from Houston take turns helping Evelyn.

Best wishes for her recovery.

Our dear friend, Joe Miksch, our caretaker at Lodge 88, and loved by all, is a very sickman. Let's include all these family members in our prayers as we can't handle all these problems by ourselves.

Fraternal ActivitiesCoordinator Bill Pavliska reported that the fraternal activities' report had been sent to the Home Office. He asked members to keep track of their activities during the year and also to record any charitable donations that are made.

Brother Emil Matula will be attending the Tarok Tournament in Cylcone. Alvin and Frances Schimcek · will be attending the Straight Domino Tournament. lodge No. 133 willhold a dinner on March 18th to celebrate the 73rd anniversary of its founding. Meat will be furnished by the lodge. Members are to bring a vegetable dish and dessert. Members are asked to bring guests who might be prospective members of SPJST. Guests attending will not be charged for the meal.

Members bringing guests are asked to bring enough vegetables and desserts for the additional persons .

Attendance prizes were won by Joe Spacek -- 1st, Cheryl Morrissey -- 2nd and Teresa Jasek -- 3rd. Lucille Dlugosh and Gertrude Pavliska won 'Split the Pot.' Joe Stryk and William Pavliska celebrated their birthdays in February.

It was agreed, by the membership on the suggestion of Brother Emil Matula, that members who wished to learn to play Tarokcould do so during the games party. There are several members interested in learning this game from our Czech heritage.

On Sunday, March 4th~ our regular monthly meeting was called to order

by President Dennis Hermis. We had 47 members and 6 visitors present who stood to recite the Pledge · of Allegiance'to our flag.

Secretary Alice Jochen held roll call President Anthony Trilicek opened of officers; all were present, except, the meeting of lodge No. 133 on February 18, 1990 at the St. Margaret Youth leader Lora Mabry.

Inez Community Hall Sets Polka Fest Three polka bands will be featured in the Second Annual Polka Fest on May 20, 1990 at the Inez Community Center, Inez, Texas.

Sponsored by SPJSTlodge No. 143, Inez and lodge No. 97, Placedo, the festival will feature the Vrazel Polka Band of Buckholts, Leo Majek's Orchestra of Corpus Christi .and Vanek Brothers of Victoria.

Postponed AARP DefensiveDriving Course Lodge No. 88, Houston AARP Defensive Driving Course scheduled April 5 and 6 at SPJST Lodge Pokrok No. 88, Houston has been temporarily postponed pending finalizing discussion between AARP Headquarters and the State of Texas.

As it is my understanding all AARP Defensive Driving Course classes throughout Texas are temporarily suspended until the above referenced discussions are resolved.

Seaton Choral Group Resumes Rehearsals

Czech Heritage Society Of Texas To Hold Spring Meeting The Czech Heritage Society of Texas will hold its 1990 spring meeting on Saturday, March 31 at the SPJST Supreme lodge Building, 520 North Main Street, Temple, Texas.

The business portion of the meeting will start promptly at 12:30 p.m.

The program for the afternoon will start at 1:30 p.m., with a three - part

historical presentation-by Bill Malina of Houston, The Reverend Benton Thurmond of Wharton and Robert Janak of Beaumont. Mr. Malina will discuss the early and medieval history of Bohemia and Moravia. Reverend Thurmond will present the story· of Saint Agnes of Bohemia. Mr. Janak will show slide pictures of Prague in medieval times.

The afternoon will continue with a variety of 20 - minute mini - workshops designed for the new family historian starting at 2:30 p.m. Each workshop will be repeated during the afternoon so that each person may have the opportunity to participate in each· of them. The themes of the workshops will be "Writing Your Family History," led by Marjorie Matula of Victoria; "Finding Your Village· of Origin," led by Edmond Hejl of Fort Worth; "Beginning Czech Family History Research," led by Leo Bacá of Richardson and "An Alternative Family History Format," led by Robert Janak of Beaumont. The program will also feature two workshops for the experienced researcher, a Ovil War Seminar at 2:30 p.m. and a planning session · for Czech Heritage Society Research Projects at 3:10 p.m.

The afternoon 's activities will conclude with a sing - a- long featuring the Galveston County Czech Heritage Singers.

Everyone who is interested in Czech his tory, culture, tradition and genealogy is cordially invited. A $3.00 donation to cover part of the necessary expenses will be requested at the door.

erijoyed the January bowling social.

Beseda practice is in full swing with one juriior and one teen circle.

February is always quite busy for our youth club. Our month began with the youth club supporting the benefit dance for our friend Susan Bohnenberger. Susan, we hope you are feeling much better.

On Sunday, February 4, at our regular monthly meeting, we made Valentinetreats· for the nursing home.

For the March 18th meeting everyone isto bring a kite. We will fly kites after the meeting.

The birthday cake was brought by Justin Engelke and the game was brought by Larry Yates. The door prizes were won by Butch Wigley and Sandra Trickett.

Additional Potential Buyers On Monday, February 5, we visited the Burmont Nursing Home in Temple and passed · out potpourri baskets and sang for the residents.

Afterwards we were treated 'for cake and punch at Oaudette's and Tim's house. Happy anniversary to a wonderful couple who is very special to all ofus.

Friday, February 16 was a very successful night for our youth club.

Our annual chili supper and auction brought us a profit of over $2,000.We thank all of you who made this possible; youth members.parenrs, all donations, workers, buyers and all of those in attendance. We appreciate your support of our youth club. My special thanks to nm Reese for his more than "9 to 5" working hours, Gaudette, and lillian and Dan Hejl, our master chefs. The chili was delicious. Youth members, I am very proud of you for your hard work. A special thanks to our auctioneer, Johnny Dokupil, for · once again bringing this year's auction with mor profit; $1,297.50 from our auction alone.

We had 38 members and 8 visitors.

We needed youth club members Saturday, March 10th to pick up trash at 8:00 a.m. If you haven't picked up trash, yet, wellyoureally need to start next time because you might find something.

We have a new member, David Hejl; he is now our 50th youth club member. Congratulations to him!

Well, our next meeting will be on April 1, 1990 at 3:00 p.m. So get your Easter baskets ready because we are going to have an Easter egg hunt.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 133, San Antonio offer sincere sympathy to the family and friends of MRS. LOUISE T. ZARSKY, of San Antonio, who passed away on September 29, 1989 at 9:40 a.m. in the S.E. Baptist Hospital in San Antoriio at age 93.

Services were held on October 1, 1989 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church at Koerth, near Hallettsville.

Burial was in the Koerth Catholic Cemetery with Rev. Charles Sonnier officiating .

She was a member of St. Ann's Catholic Church in San Antonio and was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 133, San Antonio.

She was born on October 20, 1895 in lavaca County, Texas to the late Frank and Frances Prop Zátopek, She was married to Paul Zarsky, who preceded her in death on June 7, 1932.

They were married on August 24, 1915 at Koerth, Texas.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Millie Smith and Mrs. Lou Willard, both of San Antonio; one sister, Mrs. Agnes Hairrel of Weimar; 9 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and 3 great - great grandchildren.

Mr. Kocurek was born August 21, 1947 in Bryan, Texas to Calvin Luedke Kocurek and Gladys Marie Gbabay.

He was a graduate of Caldwell High School, attended Blinn College and was a graduate of Texas A&M University. He was a seed analyst for Texas Department of Agriculture in Giddings for 19Yz years.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Dime Box and was very active in church work. He served as lector Eucharistic Minister, taught CCD, was vice president of the Parish Council.

He was also a member of SPJST Lodge Texaska Orlice No. 13 in Dime Box and he will be best remembered for his willingness to help others in any way he possibly could.

He loved to fish, play golf and Texas Aggie football.

Brother Kocurek married Peggy Ruth Hunter on June 6, 1981 in Carthage, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ruth Kocurek of Deanville; parents, Calvin and Gladys Kocurek of Deanville; daughter, Magan Elizabeth Kocurek; son, Nicholas Randall Kocurek; one sister, and three brothers; father and mother - in - law, eight brothers - in law and sisters - in law, plus other relatives and a host of friends.

Brother Hejl was born on March 28, 1917 in the Red Hill community near Caldwell, the son of Frank and Frances Haisler Hejl. He was . a resident of Snook for 30 years and a lifelong resident of Burleson County.

He attended Red Hollow School and was a farmer and carpenter. He was baptized in May, 1917 as a member of the Brethren Church. He married lillie Rose Gerzik on March 4, 1943.

Brother Hejl served in the Army during World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Frances Marek.

Survivors include his wife, lillie Hejl· of Snook; four daughters, Dorothy Zimmer· of Houston, Mary Palzkowski · of Kendall Park, New Jersey, Barbara Cogbill of Santa Fe, Texas, Carolyn Habryl of Hunnington, West Virginia; a son, Hynek Hejl, Jr. of Bryan and 8 grandchildren.

A prayer service was held at 7 p.m.

Městečko Rožnov v Texasu v USA se nacházív severovýchodní části okresu Fayette nedaleko od Warrentownu. Bylo pojmenováno na návrh Johna M. Halamicka po­ dle jeho rodného města. Do USA přišel z Rožnovav roce 1869.

Milé sestry a bratři, Náš předseda bratr George Pavelka zahájil schůzi4. března ve 2 hodiny od­ poledne.

Bylo nás 89 členů a šest navštěvníků -- Edna Voldan, Mary Greger, Freddie Schroeder, Henry Hutka, Ann Balusek a Alice Ann Wallace, která nám pro­ muvila aby jsme sli volit pro 53rd District State Representative kandidáta.

Na lístku nemocných byli Connaly Neal, Olga Schroeder, Ike Steffek, Joe Chlápek, Dorothy Entrop a Ella Pomykal.

Korespondenci měli jsme děkovnou kartu od Louis Tepera ml., které je v "Cam - Lu Nursing Home" a od Rose Marie Orsag.

Přijata byla jenom jedna členka Martha Lou Turner.

Zprávy úředníků byly dobré. Sestra Judy Pechal podala zprávu za dozorčí výbor.

Na FAC výbor budou Joyce Škrabánek, Dorothy Kohutek, Ruth Hanusch, Dana Glaser a Dorothy Pechal.

Sestra Patsy Koslovský vedoucí mládeže, měla 38 členů a 3 dospělé přítomni.

Narozeniny budou slavití tento měsíc -- Woodrow Marek, Dorothy Kohutek, Adeline Kohutek a Ted Ježek.

Výročí sňatku budou slavit Helen a Dan Wylie.

Dveřní ceny dostali: Sharon Hejl, Fred Schroeder, Judy Pechal a Ann Balusek.

Naše příští schůze se bude pořádat v neděli 1. dubnu (April) ve 3 hodiny od­ poledne a budeme mít "Easter Egg Hunt" a vyznamenáníza 50-letčlenství (50-year pin presentation) a (covered dish lunch) svačinu.

54, West, Texas Vážení bratři a milé sestry: Pravidelnou schůzi našeho řádu zahájil náš president Ted Kocián přesně v 7:30 večer dne 2. března 1990 v síni našeho řádu složením přísahy s uctěním památky nedávno zesnulého bratra Roberta Řezníčka, který nás navždy opustil. Pozůstalé rodině pro­ jevujeme upřímnou soustrast.

Sekretářka Ann Emeryová přečetla zápis z minulé schůze a byl schválen bez oprav.

President Ted Kocián pochválil našeho zástupce Freddie Kalužu za pěknou práci při zapisování pojistek.

Naše sekretářka obdržela také dopis z Hlavní úřadovny s oznámením, že deset našich členů se dožíví 50. výročí členství u naší jednoty. O oslavě této příležitosti bylo rozhodnuto později.

Naše finanční tajemnice Maxine Šefčíková uložila několik tisíc dolarů do banky a oznámila, že jsme získali nového člena Roberta J. Shebestu, Jr. mezi dospělými členy a Mindy Emeryová a Michael S. Matušek jsou mezi mládeží. Členství si převedli do Arlingtonu, Tx. Joe, Jr. a Patricia Wolfovi. Pojistky si vybrali David C. Iverson, Ethel Mae M. Neimeyerováa Annette R. Owensová.

Náš pokladník Freddie Kaluža přednesl dobrou zprávu o našich vkladech v bankách.

Pres. Kocián pochválil Freddieho za pěknou oznámku v místních novinách a proto jsme měli pěknou účast na naší vánoční slavnosti, zvláště děti měly velikou radost z dárků.

Br. Ray Matuš oznámil, že všechny splátky a poplatky týkající se síně jsou zaplaceny a provoz síně probíhá bez obtíží. Sem tam potřebuje více pracovníků za barem a při úklidu.

Ses. Beany Kacířová oznámila, že Revisní výbor bude prohlížet knihy dvakrát do roka, aby byly všechny údaje v pořádku. Dále bylo oznámeno, že plot kolem majetku řádu a kolem Sokolovny bude vybudován v tomto roce, aby se předešlo nehodám a případné zodpovědnosti za úrazy. Plot bude také překážkou pro potulná zvířata a zajistí pořádek kolem síně.

Blahopřejeme sestře Teresii Markové k požehnanému věku a pře­ jeme jí dobré zdraví do dalšího roku, kdy přežije tabulku pojištění a dožije se 96 roků věku.

Na závěr naší schůzejsme projednali pořad oslavy 50. výročí členství deseti našich členů: Bohuše J. Chupíka, Anežky Dujkové, R.W. Hutyry, Albíny Kacířové, Lilliany Němečkové, Ileana I. Opelly, Rudolpha (Rudyho) J. Šefčíka, Mary A. Shebestové a Louise J. Werneta. Bylo rozhodnuto, že tito vážení členové a členky budou pozváni na slavnost dne 1. června 1990 na 7:30 večer do naší síně i se svými rodinami a pak jim budou odznaky SO let členství předány. Občerstvení bude připraveno a proto je nutno vědět, kolik členů a jejich rodin přijde, aby kuchaři mohli připravit dostatek jídla.

Těšíme se již nyní na tuto slavnostní chvília doufáme, že hojný počet našich členů přijde pozdravit tyto vážené členy našeho řádu.

Jarní schůze3. okrsku se bude konat 29. dubna 1990 v síni řádu 180 v Burleson, TX. Při této příležitosti se bude soutěžit v házení podkov a ve vyšívánípřehozů.

Losování vyhrála sestra Albína Kacířováa po ukončení schůzesetrvalo členstvo při pěkném občerstvení a v družné zábavě. Nezapomeňte na naši příští schůzi, která se bude konat v naší síni dne 1. června v pátek ve 7:30 večer a bude slavnostní příležitostí poznat zasloužené členy našeho řádu a jedno­ ty. Na shledanou tedy na naší příští schůzi.

Schůze společnosti českého dědictví Celostátní schůze společnosti českého dědictví v Texasu se bude konat v sobotu 31. března 1990 v budově Hlavm'ho řádu SPJST, 520 North Main St., Temple, Texas. Úřední podíl schůzezačne přesně v půl jedné odpoledne.

Informační a zábavný podíl začne asi v půl druhé odpoledne. Program bude mít tři kratké přednášky. W.J. "Vilém" Malina z Houston "dějiny Čech a Moravy v středověku," Dp. Benton Thurmond z Wharton "vyprávění Svatou Anežku Přemyslov­ nu Ceskou" a Robert Janák z Beau­ mont ukáže filmové obrázky "Prahy v středověku."

Odpoledne pokračuje s několika malými semináři asi v půl třetí. Mar­ jorie Matula z Victoria -- "Napsání své rodinné dějiny historie", Edmond Hejl z Ft. Worth -- "Jak shledat svou rodinou vesnici," Leo Baca z Richard­ son -- "Začínat vyšetřovat své rodinné dějiny," Robert Janák z Beaumont-­ "Druhý způsob napsat své rodinné dějiny." Každý bude mít přiležitost navštívit každý seminář.

Dale, asi . v půl třetí začnou dvě generální plánovací semináře. Námět první semináře · bude Americká občanská válka. Deset minut po třetí, námět bude vysetřování projektů pro společnosti (CHSOT).

Program končí zpěvemz "Galveston County Czech Heritage Singers" od asi půl čtvrte až do čtyř hodin.
