CHRISTMAS GREETINGS When the tips of the pines Touch the twinkling stars On the cold, crisp nights of December, May your blessings be more Than you've ever hoped for, And your Christmas a warmth to remember. ***

Saturday, December 9th your editor, wife, Maxine and son, Terry, traveled to Houston to attend the. benefit dance for Sister Susan (Urbanek) Bohnenberger, District IV youth counselor, who is gravely ill and to also visit with relatives.

The dance was well attended and we are pleased to report that it was a real success; over $4,000 was collected to help the family in their need. This is when the benevolent spirit of our SPJST Society really shines through.

A sincere thank you to all who attended and we are certain that State Youth Director Claudette Reese (with her husband, Tim, and son who also attended), and District V Youth Counselor Marie Stayton, District V Director Louis Hanus, Entertainment Chairman Harley Cox, along with the Host Committee at the dance, appreciate everyone's efforts to help someone who really deserves it.

The evening was very enjoyable and we got to visit with many SPJST friends including childhood acquaintances.

While in Houston, we visited with relatives and we were guests of Tom and Lydia Marsh who were perfect hosts.

On our way home we drove to the SPJST Section of Brookside Cemetery in Houston, where your editor's parents are resting in peace. What memories that visit brought back!

While being Lodge 88 president for six years in the late 40s and early 50s, your editor was asked to officiate at approximately 43 funerals during that time.

We walked through the section reading the names --- Brother and Sister Louis Hanus, Sr., Brother and Sister Joe Kalousek, Brother and Sister John Kahanek, Sr., John Kahanek, Jr. Brother and Sister Frank Tesar and the list goes on and on.

Your editor's parents are resting among very benevolent and fraternal brothers and sisters. Needless to say, a lump arose in my throat while paying our respect. May We Honor Memory Of All Of Them Now And Forever. ***

MERRY CHRISTMAS! We rejoice in the sound of the words and the glory of the message: "on earth peace, goodwill to men." But we do not always feel the meaning in our hearts and put it to work in our lives.

One who did was Henry Van Dyke, the late American clergyman, writer, and poet whose famous "Story of the Other Wise Man" has brought joy and inspiration to thousands of people over the years. Among his writings is a piece called "The Spirit of Christmas," and we think you will like it as much as we did. We are happy to print it, from us to you:

"We are thinking of you today because it is Christmas...and tomorrow because it will be the day after, and so on through the year. We may not be able to tell you about it every day, but that makes no difference, the thought and the wish will be here just the same..."

Welcome a stranger. Gladden the heart of a child. Take pleasure in the beauty and wonder of the earth. Speak your love. Speak it again. Speak it still once again. Make Christmas last all year! ***

A recently developed laser therapy can almost completely remove birthmarks that afflict 3 out of 1,000 babies without the scarring and infection associated with earlier laser treatments. The therapy uses a tunable dye laser "tuned" to a wavelength that lets the laser beam harmlessly penetrate the skin while it destroys the abnormal blood vessels that cause the discoloration. These are called port wine stains and look like the one on Russian President Mikhail Gorbachev's forehead.

For a mark the size of a silver dollar, three to ten treatments at about $300 each may be needed, depending on the color and depth of the stain. Most people can expect 75 to 100 percent of the mark to vanish, according to Dr. Claude Burton of Duke University Medical Center. Patients whose lesions are more than about 11/2 millimeters beneath the skin show less of a response, since the beam cannot penetrate that deep. was held at our Christmas Party.

There were many winners. They had lots of gifts to give.

The president recognized and expressed his appreciation to the cooks for preparing the meal for our Christmas supper; always the usual meal is baked turkey and dressing with many good side dishes and bowls that go good with turkey meat and sausage.

Thanks to those who brought the other tasty Czech sweets and salads.

The turkeys were baked by George and Josie Mae Straten. The other cooks were Mary Lander, Frances Chase, Lillie Marie Mynar, Willie Mae Schuetz, Lydia and Robert Dobecka, Edward and Barbara Hykel. FAC Robert Dobecka purchased the groceries. This is what I call a good team of brothers and sisters who get together, work together and stay together. Thanks to all of you for the good, nice and hard work.

FAC Robert Dobecka asked the members for their worksheets, the volunteer work, total of hours and days. He needs to send this to the Supreme Lodge; this was explained some time ago in the Vestnik. This is a fraternal activities' report of Lodge 6, District III. This report is turned in every year to the National Fraternal Congress: Definition of Acts -- all acts of service (humanity) Hours -- all acts of service must have hours Value -- the dollar value of things given or spend doing fraternal service.

At this time, the president called Cyrill Svrcek to come to the officers' table to proceed with the election of officers . We regret his declining the nomination and we wish him the wishes he desires in his future.

The committees will be appointed in our next meeting, also installation of officers will be held.

A thank you note to Sister Mary Marek was sent for cleaning our Texas flag from our lodge hall, it sure needed cleaning which looks nice now.

Lodge No. 6 held their last monthly meeting of this year 1989 at 1 p.m., which convened by President Johnnie Krizan who called upon Tammi Dobecka to lead us to the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and she also recited the SPJST Motto.

The reports of officers followed; first, Barbara Hykel read the minutes of our last meeting and also gave the treasurer's report for Karen Kroll who was absent. Financial Secretary George Straten gave his report. All of these reports were approved as given.

Willie Mae Schuetz was called to give her report about the youth club activities. The club was selling tickets on their Christmas items which some were donated by parents; the drawing

4/VESTNIK—Wednesday, December 20, 1989 Following the supper was a pretty program by the youth. After singing "Here Comes Santa Claus" in came the fellow wearing a red suit and with his long white beard and bag of goodies on his back. The children started yelling and running to him.

After he set in the chair, he started giving out the bags to all the children.

He also walked around the floor and gave bags to adults which was nice of him, too. Following his mission, he said "good - bye, see you all next year!" Then all the gifts that were under the beautiful Christmas tree were passed out to all youngsters and some adults. There was joy everywhere.

The attendance was good as always.

I think everyone enjoyed the day and thanks for coming to be with all of us; it was nice seeing you all and do come, again.

Our next Board of Trustees' meeting will be held Friday night, January 5, 1990 at 7:30 p.m.; Lodge 6 meeting Sunday, January 7, 1990 at 1 p.m.; do try to attend because you may be lucky and win a door prize.

Today's winner was Bobby Dobecka who was present. The progressive prize for $10 was Christine Svrcek who also was present, the second $10 prize was for Donna Lancaster and the $8 prize was for Pamela Lovecky; the last two members were not present.

Dear Members and Friends: On Sunday, December 3, 1989, we gathered at the home of Mr. and Mrs. V.F. Bliznak of Brenham for our annual meeting.

There were eight members and three visitors present.

We held a brief meeting and had election of officers. Those elected are as follows: Sister Erna Pomykal -- president Sister Marie Martin -- vice president Sister Bessie Surovik -- secretary and treasurer We did things a little differently this year. We didn't have Christmas bag: for everyone. We bought gifts for the children only and the rest of the money we spent on items to be given to Brenham Rest Home patients.

We all signed a card for one of our members to be sent to her because she was unable to attend due to illness.

The last item to discuss was our annual barbecue supper. In 1990 it will be held at the home of Brother and Sister Dan Surovik on the second Sunday, June 10th. Members write this on your calendars so you wouldn't miss it. The meat and gravy will be furnished. Sisters are to bring a vegetable and sweets. I will remind you again later about this supper. There will be a short meeting at 4 p.m. and supper at 5 p.m.

After the meeting adjourned, we were treated to a surprise supper which was prepared for us by Mr. and Mrs. Bliznak and their three lovely children.

There was turkey and dressing, sweet potatoes, cranberry sauce and many other things; too many, to remember.

This supper was a total surprise because we didn't plan on anything

this nice and it was enjoyed by all of us. Our thanks to the Bliznaks and their children.

There was also a beautiful Christmas tree and their lovely home was decorated throughout with lighted candles and decorations. It was truly a treat!

Last, but not least, there were door prizes which were won by Dan Surovik, Marie Martin, Milady Kamas and Erna Pomykal.

I should add that the tree and the decorating was done by their three children; great work kids! We all love you for it.

No. 17, New Tabor

Dear Members: Lodge No. 17 held its annual meeting in December with all officers present.

There were three resolutions read for deceased members, Leon A. Krueger, Louis M. Charanza and Chris Travis. To their families, friends and loved ones, we would like to extend our deepest sympathy.

New members are Michael James Ofczarzak, Wanda Sue Scroggins, and Crystal Wotipka (a transferee).

Plans were made to buy a new flag.

A tentative date has been set for our next fund raiser; the date is February 25th and nothing else has been decided.

There was much discussion about making the hall more resistant to burglars and we decided to go ahead and purchase motion lights in hopes these will scare them off.

FAC Bud Petty announced that the following dates have been set for dominoes and "42" -Saturday, January 13 -- Play - off for "42" winners, 3 p.m.

Sunday, January 14 -- Burleson County Invitational, 2 p.m.

Saturday, January 20 -- Lodge playoff for Straight Domino winners going to State Elections were held with all officers, trustees and committees retaining their positions.

The Memorial Dinner was held with a large number of members attending.

Brother Henry Beseda, Jr. was guest speaker. The youth club also presented a program that was enjoyed by all.

Turkey bakers for this year were Joyce Dusek, Helen Hildebrand, Doris Hovorak, Alice Piwonka, Patti Story and Agnes Urbanovsky. Thanks, ladies!

There is no way to begin to write the comments heard at Elk Lodge Hall on December 10th. Everyone enjoyed themselves and the highlight of the evening was seeing so many of the folks who have not been there in a number of years.

Santa Claus made his scheduled visit with a few smiles and a few tears.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: The December 4th lodge meeting was opened by President George Pavelka at 2 p.

Flag Bearers James Kortis and Gary Skrabanek brought in the flags and led the pledge.

Visitors recognized were Ann Balusek of Lodge 15, Edna Voldan of Lodge 196, Gertrude Kahlig, Freddie Schroeder and Tammy Pechal. We invite to come again, soon.

Secretary Dolores Skrabanek read the roll call of officers, sales representatives and trustees.

Get well cards had been sen Sisters Anna Junek, Antonie Orsag, Rose Marie Orsag, Georgie Sodek, Vlasta Divis and Johnnie Bradley.

Brothers hospitalized were Frank Mikeska, Edwin Jez, Dan Hejl, Alfred Klusacek and Alfred L. Klusacek.

The minutes of November 12th meeting were read by the secretary and correspondence included a Christmas card from Brother Andrew and Sister Lola Vavra (District I director and his wife), and a letter regarding the East Bell Water Supply Corporation's annual meeting on January 11th.

New members accepted into the lodge were Rebecca L. Greger and Brian Keith Mabry. Welcome to Lodge 47 and hope you will be coming to meetings and other activities.

Board minutes were read by Wallace Jez, trustees' secretary.

The open Tarok Tournament is set for Saturday, January 13th at Seaton Star Hall to the first 100 players. For more information contact Brother Tim Reese at (817) 774 - 8912.

We voted to bid on the Domino Tournaments and the Tarok Tournaments sponsored by Supreme Lodge on dates -- March 3rd, March 24th and April 7th.

Sister Lucy Mihatsch gave her monthly report and stated that she enjoyed being an officer of the lodge.

Sister Adeline Kohutek gave her monthly report and said the billing will be coming from the Supreme Lodge

and that she and Brother Willie E. Kohutek had made many friends while her being financial secretary through the years. Thanks to both of these fine sisters for a job well done! Oh! I must not leave out Brother Dan Balusek who has served as parliamentarian for many years as well as trustee. Thanks to you, Brother Dan! Youth Leader Patsy Koslovsky gave her report; she had 40 members present with 2 visitors, 3 adults and 3 new members. She reported on the practices for the Christmas program and the pizza party with the gift exchange afterwards. She also stated that the card and box were being circulated to help Sister Susan Bohnenberger and family now during her illness. The trustees will be setting a Sunday afternoon to benefit this family later.

Sister Theresa Carper had sent two framed pictures of brides from Czechoslovakia; these will be placed in the hall because they are so beautiful.

We proceeded with the chairpersons' elections. The committee counting ballots consisted of Joe Mikeska, Frank Klinkovsky, Louis Kohutek, Dana Glaser, Ruth Hanusch, Judy Pechal and Dolores Skrabanek. Those married in December were Woodrow and Gladys Marek, and my late husband, Jerry Pechal and Dorothy Pechal.

Door prizes were won by Anton Vitek, Joe L. Sefcik Helen Janacek and Evelyn Fleese.

After adjournment, we enjoyed a delicious lunch. The next meeting will be Sunday, January 7th at 2 p.m.

The Christmas Party was held Sunday, December 10th beginning with the impressive candlelight memorial service with grandchildren or youth members lighting a candle for each of 20 members who died since the last service. It was so good to see my, cousins and their children from Dallas to attend and participate. We enjoyed two skits by the other youth club members and then Santa Claus came in to the joy of young and old. Free drinks were served and then the Brother and Sister Award was presented to a well - deserving couple, namely, Brother Jerome and Sister Rose Marie Orsag . They have been kitchen chairpersons, Reseda club dancers and workers in all phases of lodge work such as serving as trustee and on committees as well.

Congratulations to you both and may better health again be yours, Rose Marie, real soon.

We all enjoyed the preparations of the meal Saturday and Sunday and the cleanup afterwards. Thanks to Willie E. and Adeline Kohutek, Calvin and Dolores Skrabanek for being the chairpersons in charge of the meal and thanks to all for whatever you did, even if you only brought the food requested, salads or sweets.

Dear Members and Friends: We really had a good turnout at our last dance which took place December 2nd. Everybody appeared to be having a good time. "One For The Road" really did a great job entertaining our dancing fans.

Donnie Vondra, star singer, had received many awards from around our community which means he has lots of talent.

Donnie's grandpa is a charter member of our Lodge No. 74 (chartered in 1934).

I just received a letter from the Supreme Lodge urging us to pull together; by working together, we get results. I fully agree.

Yes, there were some mistakes made in the past. I know I made mistakes in the past, but I always meant to do the best for the lodge.

Don't forget the New Year's dance which will take place Sunday, December 31st; the name of the band will be "Runaway Hearts. I hope, to see lots of our members at the dance.

Lodge No. 80, Holland SPJST Lodge No. 80 began their December annual meeting day at 12:30 p.m. by sitting down to a tureky with all the trimmings meal furnished by our lodge and lodge members. Seventy members and guests were present.

President D.I. Bohac called the December annual meeting to order at 2:00 p.m. for regular business.

The Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence to the departed members began the meeting. All officers were present. President Bohac thanked everyone for

attending and he also thanked those who helped in preparing the noon meal. Minutes of the last meeting were read and approved.

New members accepted to the lodge were Dora Moreno, Johnny Rohlack and Flora Rohde. Old and new business was discussed.

All members are invited to attend the SPJST Lodge No. 80 and Holland American Legion Christmas Party which will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 16, 1989 at the SPJST Lodge No. 80.

There being no further business, we proceeded to the election of officers for 1990. New officers for 1990 will be: President -- Harold Rohde Vice President -- Risa Pajestka Secretary - Treasurer -- Glen Latham Financial Secretary -- Glenda Liles Reporter -- Dan Grossman Names were drawn for door prizes. It was gratifying to have a turnout of thirty - five members and guests attending the December meeting of Lodge No. 81 on Sunday, December 10, 1989. Activities began at 12:00 noon with our Christmas dinner Sister Willie Mae Kuykendall baked the turkey and delicious dressing.

Sausage and ham were prepared by Mary Werner and Louise Newman. To accompany the meat course, there were many tasty vegetables and salads, while the dessert table was filled with a variety of tempting baked goodies.

Lodge No. 81 is certainly blessed with many excellent cooks and we extend our appreciation and thanks to all the sisters who brought food.

We were happy to have our District V Director Brother Louis Hanus with us; he had another meeting to attend later that afternoon, so it was decided to hold the installation of officers before calling the regular meeting, to order.

The following officers for 1990 were installed by Director Hanus, namely: President -- Adolph Macha Vice President -- Edwin Susan Secretary - Financial Secretary -Mary Werner Treasurer -- Willie Mae Kuykendall Special Fund Treasurer -- Gilbert Walzel Following the installation, Brother Hanus discussed the advantages of the new Modified Whole Life Plan of insurance which is now available beginning at birth to 24 years of age.

President Charlie Matcek then called, the regular meeting, to order.

Sister Vlasta Nowotny led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Members stood for a moment of silence in memory of our departed member, Sister Albina Sabrsula. We extend heartfelt sympathy to her family.

All officers were present for roll call. Secretary Mary Werner read, the minutes of the November meeting. The minutes, as well as her financial report were accepted as read. She also read correspondence received since the last meeting.

Treasurer Willie Mae Kuykendall's monthly report was also accepted as read.

Special Fund Treasurer Gilbert Walzel gave a detailed report on the expenses, income, and hall activities of the past month.

Sister Vlasta Nowotny brought greetings from her husband, Herbert, now residing at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Needville. We all miss you, Herbert, and send you our best wishes for the New Year 1990.

One new member, Lacey Ann Bosak, was received into Lodge No. 81. Five letters of, transfer have also been received. Transferees are Frank and Elsie Brdecka from Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28 in East Bernard, Danette Leigh Pavlas, Gloria Pavlas and Daniel Leroy Pavlas from Lodge No. 88 in Houston. Welcome to Lodge No. 81.

There was no old business. Under new business it was decided to hold the first meeting of 1990 on Sunday, January 14, with dinner at 12:00 noon preceding the business meeting. The lodge will furnish fried chicken and members will bring a vegetable, salad or dessert.

Sheryl Macha drew the names of door prize winners. Lucky recipients were Elsie Brdecka, Sophie Baethe, Charlie Matcek, Willie Mae Kuykendall, Rosalie Pieper, Eddie Pieper, Vlasta Hurta, Lydia Hortxnan, Louise Newman and Willie Warhol.

Following adjournment, we gathered around the Christmas tree which had been decorated by Sister Mary Matcek. Santa and his reindeer must have been in the vicinity of Needville that afternoon. While we sang Christmas carols, the door opened and there stood Santa Claus in person! After hugs and handshakes Santa sat down to hear some special requests from several little folks; soon he was on his way again, leaving bags of fruit, nuts and candies for all present. It was fun!

December 10, 1989 marked not only the last meeting of the year, but also

the last meeting of Lodge No. 81 to be presided over by Brother Charlie Matcek as our president. Charlie is retiring from the presidency after a record THIRTY - TWO YEARS of faithful service! During those years he also served as president and vice president of District V. Your long years of service and devotion, Charlie are certainly an example of true fraternalism and a goal for others to strive for.

As the Holiday Season approaches, the members of Lodge No. 81 send their best wishes to all for a Merry Christmas, good health and peace in the coming year. It was a good year for our lodge and we have much to be thankful for.

Don't forget to circle January 14 on your new 1990 calendar and plan to attend the first meeting of the new year. Remember -- 12:00 noon for a fried chicken dinner with business meeting to follow.

Dear Members and Friends: It sure is getting that time when all of us are supposed to be good, however, we need to be good all year and not just at Christmastime. Also, let's not forget what Christmas really is which is our Lord's birthday, therefore, we should never forget, to give for all the wonderful things we have in our life.

It was such a beautiful day on December 3rd when four Metroplex area lodges got together to share our love for each other. Lodge No. 183, Arlington was hosting this year's party and everything was just perfect -- the good food and, of course, the pastries, that our wonderful ladies from other lodges brought. There, was plenty of food so I am sure no one went away hungry. There was a fountain that flowed with champagne all evening and everyone could help themselves, a nice setting for a celebration including peanuts were served with drinks; if someone didn't like the champagne, there were beer and soft drinks as well.

The officers were sworn in by our District III Director Sid Pokladnik.

Officers from the four lodges were asked if they would accept the duties of their lodge. He asked them to sound off loud if they would accept their duties and to be faithful to their lodge and members. Brother Sid made a nice speech about fraternal work and said we needed to secure new members.

He also said our Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar had sickness in the family and was unable to be with us today. We hope the illness is a short one and Brother Leshikar and his wife will come to visit the four lodges any time.

This Christmas Party for the four lodges really gets members together.

There are some members who aren't at the meetings, but will come to be with their fraternal brothers and sisters at Christmastime.

I had a nice compliment from a dear friend at Lodge No. 183 who claims she reads the Vestnik and said they enjoy my reports. Sister Sill and her daughter made my day by expressing their comments. Sister Sill's daughter is a very pretty young lady (sorry I cannot remember her name, but please excuse my old age).

Just a little to get a smile out of you: Two fraternal brothers went deer hunting. They were trying to get back to the jeep when one fraternal brother turned to the other and said: "We're lost!" This was the first time in my life to dance with Santa Claus; also, at the fun dance, here came the Texas chicken which was something special. Frank Prochaska of Lodge No. 180, Burleson was the chicken.

I don't know what the problem is, but somehow there are more ladies than men. I don't know if the service or the football games has the men, but there should be more men. It's not a happy time for the ladies to sit' and watch others have a good time. Men, if you read this letter, please come to make these ladies happy by dancing and wearing out their shoes.

I don't know what our editor and his wife were doing, but they should have been here to enjoy the food and fun we had. (Sorry, we had our lodge's annual meeting and Christmas Party -- Editor) The December 10th meeting was cancelled due to the December 3rd party, but don't forget the December 17th because that's our Christmas Party for the youngsters and members.

Santa will be there to give out gifts and goodies. Bring your children and our youth leader will have a program. Start helping your child with a song or a poem; even some adults can be on the program, so get into the spirit and let's have a nice time. The program will start at 5:30 p.m. and ladies are asked to bring cookies, to go with drinks which will be served. Men are asked to come December 17th morning to help with fruit and candy bags. Ladies are also welcome to be present because there's always lots of fun preparing bags as someone has a joke or two and then there are light refreshments to clear our throats, which is good for a cold.

That's the way it should be, everyone pulling the same direction.

We don't forget the shut - ins, so all of you hurry and get well.

Youth Leader Sister Carolyn Cleveland reported 16 youth and 10 adults attended the District III youth meet at Holiday - in - the - Park and the play of "Twelve Days of Christmas" on Saturday, December 2nd. On Sunday, they saw "An Old Fashioned Christmas" at the Arlington Theatre and they all reported they had a wonderful time.

The shows were hosted by Brother B.J. Cleveland.

We were sorry to hear Brother Jeff Maly had been in the hospital. Get well soon! We hope all the sick are getting better.

Sister Mary Pavey reported on all the cards sent out.

Sister Jeanie Mason and family enjoyed their guests Fraser Reeves from New Zealand and Richey Turri from New York.

Sister Sherri Mason left for Los Angeles and will return December 23rd with guests from New Zealand.

Brother Joe and Sister Carrie Milan returned home safely from their 9 - day cruise which they said was wonderful.

Sister Billie Jo Mason returned from a week in Vail, Colorado and now in New Orleans. Get home safely!

Brother Jerry Milan was honored with Sister Anna Johnson's cake for his 56th birthday. Best wishes for many more.

I am leaving for St. Louis on Sunday, December 17th to be with my family for Christmas. I'll be back on the 30th.

SPJST State King And Queen Participate In Temple Christmas Parade On Tuesday, December 5, State King Bryan Becan of Lodge 84, Dallas and State Queen Stephanie Roye of Lodge 30, Taiton participated in Temple's Christmas Parade.

Over 8,000 people viewed the royal couple as they passed along the parade route. Stephanie and Bryan did an excellent job in representing the Society. They are always excited and enthusiastic in making appearances on behalf of the SPJST. Results Of 1989 Christmas Ornament Contest Congratulations to the winners and participants of the 1989 SPJST Christmas Ornament Contest. I was very excited and pleased to see all the imaginative and creative ornaments that were submitted to the Youth Department this year.

The ornaments will be displayed in the SPJST Museum during the Christmas Holidays. I want to encourage each of you to come and view the Youth Christmas Tree, as well as the recent addition to the museum of over 40 colorfully dressed Czech costumed dolls.

The front page of this issue is dedicated to all the youth who participated in the contest. You are all winners!

Lodge 24 Cyclone Youth Meeting Dear Readers, The December meeting of Lodge No. 24, Cyclone Youth Club was held Wednesday, December 6, 1989.

The meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by President Steve Bruggman.

B.J. Cleveland was one of the participants in "Twelve Days of Christmas," which was presented at the Arlington Theater. B.J. also won the SPJST State Talent Contest 20 years ago when he was 6 years old. He has his own TV Show "The Good Times Gang" on Cartoon Clubhouse on KXTX Channel 39. [He is a member of Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth]

Lodge 66 Waco Youth Entertain

KY CLEVELAND was selected to be one of the actors in the Crazy House Saloon Show. He is a member of SPJST Lodge No. 154, Fort Worth.

Dear Members, On December 9, 1989 Lodge 66, Waco had their Christmas Party. The youth club gave a nativity scene program. We sang "Jingle Bells" and then Santa came for a visit.

Rodney Posvar led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Members remained standing for a moment of silent prayer.

In attendance we had 19 members, 7 adults, Rose Harvell, Pauline Marek, Jane Bruggman, Nancy Posvar, Martha Zavodny, Rosamond Baker and Marcella Holtman and one guest, Valerie Bruggman.

Treasurer Carl Marek gave his report. The balance for this month was $623.39.

Our December social was a pizza and movies' night held Saturday, December 16th. We ate pizza at Pizza Hut in Temple, and then we went to see a movie at Cinema 6. Everyone had a really fantastic time.

After the meeting was adjourned at 8 p.m., we practiced for our Christmas Program.

The Christmas Party and Program were held Sunday, December 10th.

Our program was a great success.

Thanks to everyone who helped out.

We especially appreciate our two youth leaders Rose Harvell and Pauline Marek for everything they did to get the program together.

"Happy Birthday" to Rodney Posvar, who will celebrate his birthday on December 20th.

The January meeting date will be published in a later issue.

The officers and members of Lodge 24 would like to wish everyone a Christmas filled with love and joy and the best of everything in 1990.

Lodge 9 Snook Presents Youth Program Dear Vestnik Readers, The Snook SPJST Christmas program was held Sunday, December 3, 1989.

The youth club presented a program and Czech Singers also presented several Christmas carols.

Casey Kovar gave the opening which was followed by two skits, "The First Christmas" and "Sob, Sob, I Ain't Got The Money For Christmas."

Kelli Vajdak recited a poem and Candice Macik gave the closing.

Santa made a visit and everyone got to talk to him.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 29, Taylor wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge sister MRS. J.P. SIMCIK, age 92, of Taylor, who died Saturday, November 11, 1989 at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Taylor.

Mrs. Simcik was born October 22, 1897 at New Sweden to the late Frank and Anna (Langer) Hejl. She was a member of the Taylor Brethren Church, Christian Sisters, SPJST Lodge and the Mutual Aide Society.

She had been a resident of Taylor most of her life. Her husband preceded her in death in 1974. She was also preceded in death by a son, Albert J. Simcik, a daughter and son - in - law, Bertha and Ed Volek, a granddaughter, Yvonne Jansen, and a great - granddaughter, Michelle Volek.

Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Lydia and Ed Jansen of Taylor, Laverne and Milton Kerlin of Granger; three sons and daughters - in - law, Joe A. and Lillie Simcik, Edmond and Evelyn Simcik, Chester and Adrienn Simcik of Taylor; 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren; also two other sisters in - law, Annie Hejl, Cornella Hejl of Taylor; two brothers - in - law, Albert and wife Lottie Simcik of Taylor and Rudolph Simcik of Granger.

Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. at the Taylor Brethren Church with Rev. James Hejl officiating. Burial was in the Taylor City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were James Jansen, David Kerlin, Kenneth Kerlin, Doug Simcik, Edmond Simcik, Jr., Calvin Volek, Edward Volek and Chester Simcik, Jr. Memorial contributions may be made to the Taylor Brethren Church or to the charity of one's choice.

May she rest in eternal peace.

Plaque Fighters That Fail Toothpastes and mouthwashes claiming to fight plaque, the bacterial buildup that causes gum disease, have hit the market in recent years, but few of these products are more effective than careful flossing and brushing alone, according to a new study in this month's issue of Consumer Reports magazine. The study of six mouthwashes and toothpastes found that Listerine and- Procter and Gamble's prescription mouthwash Peridex are the two most effective products to help remove excess plaque.

A month's supply of Peridex costs about $20, compared with only about $3 for Listerine. But Peridex tends to be more effective since its active ingredient, chlorhexidine, binds to teeth and gums and continues to prevent plaque buildup for several hours, unlike the phenol derivatives in Listerine. Peridex, however, has a bitter taste and can stain teeth badly, but the staining can be removed during professional cleanings.

Consumer Reports also found that for people who find it difficult to control plaque, the electric Interplak toothbrush, although costly at $99, is extremely effective. In a study of 30 people, those who brushed with the Interplak were able to remove twice as much plaque as those who used a conventional toothbrush.

Intimidated by the variety of choices, first - time investors in mutual funds may be tempted to turn for advice to their banker. The law bars banks from directly selling funds, but a growing number are doing so indirectly by teaming up with fund companies. A bank may act as sales agent for a firm that offers funds, or it may push funds created for its customers. The bank often is the portfolio manager as well. High - yield bond funds, now returning more than 12 percent, are sometimes promoted as an alternative to 8 to 9 percent CDs. But while you can't lose money in a CD, you can in a fund, and unlike CD's, funds are not federally insured.

Since many banks charge sales fees, or loads, their funds may cost more than a no - load fund bought from a fund company. And though some banks have brokerage arms offering a wide array of funds, most banks sell a limited selection that may not pay top rates. *** Would - be entrepreneurs shouldn't be too quick to swing at the pitch made by "Money, Money, Money." The cable - TV show is largely a commercial for a $50 book of business tips and forms, many of which can be obtained free from the government.

The show also misleads viewers into thinking that free start - up cash is available from Uncle Sam. Thousands have called the Small Business Administration only to learn that grants are not available from the federal government. SBA lawyers are asking the promoters to clarify the pitch. The SBA will send you a free book of tips on starting a business, plus a list of over 50 booklets on everything from choosing a site to understanding cash flow. Most cost $1 or less. The SBA also offers free counseling at more than 600 Small Business Development Centers.
