Gebala, representing the SP JST Supreme Lodge, also participated in the course designed to promote advanced insight into the modern types of insurance and how they address SPJST members' needs more fully.

Thanksgiving in our United States for 1989 is now history and it is our sincere wish that all of our members and readers had a nice, happy and healthy day of visiting, etc. with family and friends.

Now, the hectic shopping days are before us for this Christmas season.

Just stop and think -- wouldn't an SPJST life insurance policy make a very nice, sensible and lasting Christmas gift to your loved ones?

Your editor has read many experiences and suggestions in various periodicals and we are printing one of those for our sales representatives to read and get ideas from. *** There are many good experiences, suggestions, and ideas valuable to any person selling life insurance.

Here is one idea --- for me, the beginning of a sale is getting up in the morning!

When I first started in the life insurance business, I had a hard time getting to work at the same time every day.

To start work, you need prospects.

Mine come entirely from referred leads. I have found that, properly handled, one prospect can lead to another, with the result that my list of prospects is continually growing. To see how this happens, let's start with the approach.

"Mr. John Doe, my name is Frank Law. I represent the SPJST and I would like to have ten minutes of your time to tell you about a savings plan.

Regardless of his answer, I tell him I can't talk to him now (for I have another appointment) and I was in the area. I wanted to make his acquaintance. The only things I want to know now are his age, present insurance and family status.

If he is married, I arrange to have an appointment at his home. If he is not married, I arrange an appointment by asking a direct question: "What time do you eat lunch tomorrow? Noon?

Fine, I'll see you then." If he has another engagement, I will soon know about it and then I can make an appointment for the following day.

Now I'm in, and I know that one out of every three calls like this will result in a sale.

After finishing the days business, I plan my next day's work and just what type of contract I am going to sell Mr. Doe. He is single, age 22, and earns a salary. I decide on the plan and I think he could qualify for the medical. The next day I arrive at 12:00 noon sharp at his office.

Now, this is important -- where will we go for lunch?

I have found it best to select a restaurant at least two blocks away.

While walking to it, I find out all I can about him -- where he went to school, who his friends are, how long he has been working at his present job, whose position he will take next, how much he now makes, what he hopes to make, what his father does, who his girl friends are, whether he is "going steady" or contemplating marriage and so on.

I never talk about the contract

during the meal, but have it lying on the table. Before finishing dessert, most prospects are so curious they will ask to pick it up before I start to tell them about it.

I have timed myself over and over again on this talk. It takes about seven minutes from start to close, including getting the premium check.

Here it is: Too many people think life insurance is complicated. Actually, all a fellow does when he buys a life insurance contract is create an immediate estate. Now, this plan is drawn up for $5,000, so the first day you are worth this amount. Every year, as you make cash deposits on your contract you are doing nothing more than building a cash reserve for yourself in the event of an emergency, for you know exactly what amount you will have in the third, the ninth, or the twenty - fifth year.

If you die tomorrow or ten years from now, this $5,000 that you set out to save for your retirement would be payable to your beneficiary. If nothing happens, this $5,000 comes back to you in the form of a retirement.

This illustration is drawn for an age 65 retirement plan, because Social Security comes due at that time and most company retirement plans start at age 65. But, should you want to retire at 60, 55 or even 50, you could quit and cash in this contract, but for a lesser amount than $5,000. This plan, including your accumulated dividends, will show at age 65 a profit. That is a pretty good deal, isn't it?

When a man just starting to work can be worth $5,000, save for it, get it all back, with nearly $2,000 profit, and in event of his death at any time his family would receive $5,000 -- that is a pretty good deal.

This diagram here illustrates actually what every man goes through during his life, and I think you will agree that it gives a true picture. Let's say the average fellow starts to work at about age 18. He saves for maybe a whole year, than sees a beautiful car, and he just has to have it.

Now he is 19 and broke. But he is not discouraged.

He starts out again and saves a little money. Now, he becomes engaged and is broke again. Still he isn't discouraged .

So he starts out at 20 and saves for maybe two or three years until he has enough to get married. Then, he is broke again. After that, it's his home, raising children, educational problems and the same old pattern.

But if this young fellow had started out at 18 and promised himself that out of every $10 or $15 that he earned he would put away one dollar for his future needs, this would build and build, it would be his greatest savings of all. Because some day this fellow of 18 has to quit work and take the money that he had saved and live on it.

Isn't that right?

After lunch, I accompany him back to his office. While there, I try to get him to introduce me to some of his friends -- and the cycle starts again! *** The U.S. Postal Service has introduced a 25 - cent stamp that doesn't need licking to stick to letters and packages. SPJST Volleyballers Show Athletic Ability The SPJST State Volleyball Tournament was held on Saturday, November 4, 1989 at the Temple City Gym. There were six teams representing four districts present; also many SPJST spectators who cheered the players were on hand. They all experienced a day of fast - paced competition and friendly rivalry.

Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood Dear Brothers and Sisters: Gosh! how time flies; here goes my report, again, about our monthly lodge meeting that was held Friday, November 10 at 8 p.m. opened by President Johnnie Krizan, and Karen Kroll led us in the pledge to the flag and the SPJST Motto.

The reading of the minutes of our last meeting was by Karen Kroll for Barbara Hykel, followed by the

reports of our Financial Secretary George Straten and Treasurer Karen Kroll.

Next was Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz about their club candy sale that turned out good; she also reminded all club members to be sure and come Friday night, December 1st for their final practice for our Christmas program; that night we will decorate the hall and all of us are invited who can come help.

Get well cards were sent to John Vrba, Raymond Lenart, Ed Pustejovksy and to Robert Hykel's baby who had the measles.

Thank you notes were received from St. Paul's Church, Leroy Fire Department, and West Fraternal for all the donations from our lodge. It was also voted to make a donation to the Raymond Barton, Jr. Fund.

The president read a letter from Supreme Lodge concerning the Referendum to purchase land to build an SPJST recreational facility. This issue was submitted to the membership at our last meeting. A motion was made and seconded by the membership to advise the lodge delegates to vote "against."

George Straten reported on the Board of Trustees' meeting that was held Friday night, November 3; the discussion was about our Christmas Party. It was decided to be held Sunday, December 3rd and this will be our last monthly meeting of this year, beginning at 1 p.m. After the meeting, we will have election of officers so all of you be sure to attend and decide whom you wish to serve your lodge next year.

Hallettsville Celebrates Family Day

Mrs. Katie Krizan celebrating her 95th birthday with her family, Esther Malina, AdeIle Royal, Lydia and Robert Dobecka, all of West, plus other relatives and friends.

Following will be a turkey supper with all the usual delicious eats that go good with turkey meat. The sisters are asked to bring salads and sweets; the rest will be furnished by our lodge.

After the meal, a short program by the youth will be presented. As always, the man with the red suit and white whiskers was invited to be sure and come that night to visit all the youngsters with a big bag of goodies and presents to them.

Our next Board of Trustees' meeting will be held Friday night, December 1st at 6 p.m., starting early because we will decorate the hall for our Christmas Party; all who can come and help will be appreciated.

The Board of Trustees treasurer's books were audited by Raymond Marek and Rose Uptmor. The books were reported in good order.

At this time, the president and membership expressed their thanks to the Edward Hykel and Ronnie Kroll families for preparing the barbecue supper with lots of good tasty dishes, sweets and tea. Serving the meal before our meetings is enjoyed by all who are present and who wouldn't be.

I would like to write a little about the visit to the West Rest Home on November 1st who were celebrating the birthday of all the patients who had birthdays in November; there were 60 of them celebrating. We were served cakes, kolache, strudel and ice cream, all donated by their families.

I am enclosing a picture of Mrs. Katie Krizan who was celebrating her 95th birthday, born on November 23, 1894. It was a very nice party with music and some dancing. I enjoyed the visit with them. (Helping celebrate Mrs. Krizan's birthday were also her daughters.)

Another picture is enclosed of Patti (Dulock) Rosales when she received her scholarship check from the Teresa Mae Dobecka Memorial Scholarship Fund. Patti is attending college to become an RN. Tonight's door prize went to Mary Marek and other progressive prizes were for: first -- $10, Louise McKenny; second -- $10, Dean Snider and for $8 prize was for Thomas Blaha; none were present.

Lodge No. 17, New Tabor Dear Members: Lodge No. 17 held its regular monthly meeting on November 5, 1989 with all officers present.

New members Chelsea Colwell, Lauren and Nicky Prescott, Natalie Chmelar and Buck Bartell (a transfer) joined our lodge. We would like to welcome these new members.

Youth Leader Susan Skrabanek reported that the youth club placed second at the Texas Fraternal Congress (TFC) and that they had raised $400 for the Battleship of Texas. Great work youth clubbers! The candy that you order from the youth will be deliverd in the middle of December.

December will be our annual meeting at which time we will have election of officers. Our memorial service will be held at 5:30 p.m. in December. We will be remembering members who passed away during this year. They are Albert Lehde, Robert Vychopen, Pauline Lehde, Olga Siptak, Vickie Havel and Hilda Valenta. A Christmas program will then be presented by the youth club.

We will also have installation of officers.

The Auditing Committee checked the books after the meeting and found them in good standing.

Ladies are asked to please bring sweets for desserts at the meal.

Another year has come and gone and 1989 will soon be just a memory.

A good memory for some and sad memories for others.

Our lodge has lost some very active and faithful members in 1989. These will be hard to replace. Hopefully, we will have more interest among the members in 1990 and perhaps have larger attendance at our meetings and more participation in lodge affairs.

Our meetings are very enjoyable and informative. Our socials are very happy affairs. Regretfully, not too many members attend them.

We are very happy with the efforts of our newest Sales Representative Freddie Kaluza.

Some of our members were 1989 graduates. Debbie Hutyra and Willie Zahirniak graduated from West High School. Jennifer Neckar was salutatorian at West Middle School.

Melissa Marek received a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Baylor University. She earned a perfect 4.0 four - year grade point average. Our heartiest congratulations to these graduates and our best wishes for their future.

In 1989, the West Sokol group made many needed improvements in the Lone Star Hall. They built a beautiful gymnasium adjoining the hall. The lodge members are very grateful to this organization for all of their efforts; many long hours of hard work were required to achieve this. The hall is now a very attractive facility, worthy of any social gathering.

Each member is encouraged to keep records of fraternal activities, hours and dollars, and turn these in to our Fraternal Activities Coordinator Maxine Sefcik. It is very important that these records of local unit activities, showing hours of fraternal service and total of charitable disbursements be reported. A form is now available to make record - keeping much simpler; for copies of this form, please contact Sister Maxine Sefcik.

There were two conversion policies from 20 - pay life to Single Life Premium during the quarter ending were 1989; these September

Christopher Williams and Cory Williams by Sales Representative Freddie Kaluza. We also lost one member, Mrs. Frances Mrkos, who died August 9, 1989. Our condolences are extended to the Mrkos family.

Our total membership as of August 1989 is 320 paid - up members and 336 active members for a total membership of 656.

On Sunday-, December 3rd, we will have our fourth quarterly meeting of 1989. All members are urged to attend; this will be a very important meeting.

We will elect officers for 1990. This will also be our Christmas dinner and party. The meeting will convene at 3 p.m. at Lone Star Hall. After the meeting, we will have a social at which

time Santa Claus will make an appearance and visit with the children.

At this time, they can make their requests for Christmas presents that they wish to have delivered by him on Christmas. After the social, a Christmas dinner will be served. The lodge will furnish food and drinks, but ladies of our lodge are asked to bring their favorite dessert to complement the meal.

Looking forward to a large attendance at our final meeting of 1989 at 3 p.m. on December 3rd at Lone Star Hall.

They are in charge of the games and several other jobs that should be divided two or more officers at least.

Several others are doing lots of work too; for instance, Ralph Smith, caller and Jerry Michka is putting in lots of his time working too for the lodge.

We are having a new band, One For the Road; Donnie Vondra is the singing star of the show for December 2nd from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.

Also for New Year's Eve dance, we will have Run Away Hearts Band entertaining our dancing fans on December 31st from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.

We have games every Thursday night at 7 p.m., come support the lodge!

On Sunday, November 12, 1989 at 2 p.m. President Dennis Hermis called our monthly meeting to order.

We had 47 members, 5 guests and 9 children present who stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

All remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our departed Brother Sylvester Janik.

Then, the president asked all veterans in the audience to stand so they could be honored for Veterans Day on Saturday, November 11th.

Under correspondence, the secretary read a note stating that our Sales Representative Sidon Tumis is: Number One in State Number One in applications written Number One in insurance written Number One in insurance issued He was Top Producer in District V during month of October, based on premiums issued.

Also, under correspondence we had a letter from Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar acknowledging the receipt of a check for $25 donation to the Czech Chair and $25 to Battleship Texas from our youth.

New members were Mae Travis and Melissa Kubeczka by Sales Representative Sidon Tumis, with also 8 members increasing their insurance.

Saturday, November 29, a Halloween Party was held at Lodge No. 142 for Lodges 88, 142 and 172 youth members; all had a great time.

Capsule drawing for $100 went unclaimed due to the absence of Mary Jo Janacek and Leroy Hobratsch.

The $5 consolation prizes went to Adela Stein and W. J. Schmidt.

At the next meeting we will draw again for $100.

Four door prizes went to Alene Kieschnick, Adela Stein, Lora Mabry and James Templin.

Youngest member prize of $5 went to Melissa Kubeczka.

Birthdays for November were: Alene Kieschnick, Mary Ann Kieschnick, Ed Mabry, Maggie Cernuch, Viola Doskocil and Barbara Hermis.

The November 8th meeting of Academy Lodge No. 177 was called to order at 7:25 p.m. by President Bill Hut ka.

All officers were present. We recited the pledge to the flag.

Libbie Bartek sent a get well card to Lena Lonorn.

A thank you card was received from the Elk's Foundation, Supreme Lodge for the scholarship donation and from Cecil and Minnie Lagrange.

The minutes from our last meeting were read by Kathy Fritz and were approved as read.

All chairpersons' reports were good.

The trustees discussed a cement slab for the trash truck and as of today, November 17th, this slab is in place; also a new exhaust fan for the grill in the kitchen.

Otis Beck made a motion to donate our usual $250 to the Thanksgivin2.

Meal - on - Wheels.

Lori Messer asked for the use of the hall for a Christmas Party and Lock in on December 18th for the youth club and permission was granted.

The members decided to have a covered dish meal after the December 13th meeting again this year in lieu of a Christmas Party. Members are asked to bring a covered dish and a sweet dish; the lodge will furnish the meat.

For the December meeting only, our meeting will start at 7 p.m. and new officers will be installed and chairpersons named.

Members also elected to help a needy family this year again; a committee was appointed, namely, Jan Vansa, Alex Gracia and Jerry Tomastik.

Pat and Jerry Tomastik reported their good visit with Juanita Ramm, Cecil and Minnie Lagrange. Sometime a visit to people is as appreciated as well as monetary gifts. We as, officers, trustees, chairpersons, and workers find ourselves bogged down in lodge work and lodge business and in the matter of making money and we don't seem to give a thought to our sick or shut - in friends. Juanita and Minnie were good workers in the kitchen and Cecil was a diligent worker for the lodge. We wish these people a complete recovery.

Our November 7th meeting was opened by President Louis Grochoske with the Pledge of Allegiance and a moment of silence for departed members.

The meeting continued with roll call and reading of minutes.

President Grochoske thanked all who worked so faithfully to keep the lodge going.

The dances have been poorly attended, although this past Saturday, November 18th, we had a super crowd with the Ramblin' Rhythm Band furnishing the music and pleased everyone and enjoyed it. We have a dance every Saturday night, The band plays from 8:30 p.m. until 12:30 a.m. and doors open at 7:45 p.m. and the kitchen is always open; you can get a delicious hamburger, nachos, hot dogs and popcorn, with country western music playing for your dancing pleasure.

We were glad to have a new member, Gloria Seely. Welcome to our lodge and we hope you will enjoy all of our activities!

Sick Committee -- Mydell Grochoske reported that Adolph Pustejovsky is ill. We wish him a speedy recovery. Celia Janke is in Colonial Nursing Home, and Brother Albert Sulak is moving to Granbury to live with his son, Leo Sulak, and is doing well.

Friendship Club Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends: Our Thanksgiving Family Night was a success and everyone enjoyed the delicious dinner.

Ambassador Miroslav HougteckY writes that he and his party enjoyed their October 9 - 11 visit to Dallas very much. He states, "My visit again. helped me to understand better how strong are the roots which my countrymen of old implanted in the State of Texas."

The ambassador sent his heartfelt greetings to all the many Texans who he; his wife, Marie, and First Secretary

Vladimir HOska met during their Dallas visit. These remarks were included in a recent letter received by Calvin and Mildred Chervenka who helped organize and correlate the ambassadorial visit to Dallas, Texas.

With the help of Dallas City Councilman Jerry Bartos and Ambassador J.R. Bullington, Director of City of Dallas Office of International Affairs, Ambassador HougteckY's party experienced a very busy day in Dallas before attending the Tuesday evening reception at the Catholic Czech Club.

Some of the events and activities on the ambassador's program were visits to the Dallas Museum of Art, Meyerson Symphony Center and the Sixth Floor (Kennedy Museum). They also attended tours and briefing sessions at the DFW International Trade Resources Center at the World Trade Center and the International Business Development Department of the Greater Dallas Chamber of Commerce.

Ambassador Bullington hosted a noon luncheon for the Czechoslovak ambassador's party and invited guests at the Tower Club. The daytime activities concluded with a courtesy visit to the office of Dallas Mayor Annette Strauss and an informal visit to the office of Councilman Jerry Bartos.

Ambassador Hou gteckY and his party were highly impressed by the Dallas Art Museum collections, and they re - arranged their return flight to Washington, D.C. in order that they might visit the Kimble Art Museum in Fort Worth, Texas. They were taken to Fort Worth by Robert and Diane PodhraskY and were escorted there by Jerry and Henrietta Milan and by Donna (Steinman) Parker of the Fort Worth Chamber of Commerce.

The Chervenkas expressed special thanks to Catholic Czech Club President David Dybala and Mrs. Barbara Dybala, also to the members of all the Dallas area Czech - founded organizations and other individuals who provided the entertainment, brought the Texas - Czech pastries, served and came to meet and greet the ambassador and his party at the reception.

The honored guests all were very highly impressed with the hospitality of the Czech - Texans and all Dallasites. The success of the visit was summed up by First Secretary Huska's comment, "Bylo to perfectni." (It was perfect!). ***

CZECH AMBASSADOR HOS1ED AT CZECH CLUB On Tuesday night, October 10, 1989, the Catholic Czech Club held a reception to host the Czechoslovakian Ambassador to the United States, Dr. Miroslav Hou g teckY. He was accompanied by his wife, Marie, and First Secretary of the Czechoslovak embassy, Vadlimir Wiska.

Dr. Hougtecky was visiting Texas on a cultural awareness mission and had been in Houston and San Antonio prior to his arrival in Dallas. During the day he was hosted by the City of Dallas and met with Mayor Annette Strauss and City Councilman Jerry Bartos.

The reception at the Czech Club was attended by at least 200 guests and represented a cross-section of all the Czech fraternal organizations in the North Texas area.

Upon his arrival, the ambassador and his party were shown the library and mini - museum and he expressed encouragement to the club for preserving its heritage.

After an introduction and brief remarks on "Who Are The Czech Texans" by President David Dybala, the ambassador spoke to the crowd about his travels in Texas.

While in Houston, he opened an exhibition of Czech Art titled "Czech Modernism: 1900 - 1945," organized by the Houston Museum of Fine Arts which will be on exhibit until January 7, 1990.

Dr. HougteckY told the people that many times during his travels in the United States, he meets people who tell him that they know or have known someone who is Czech. And their description includes the attributes of being a hard - working and good person.

After his remarks, the people were entertained by the Dallas Czech Singers and a string trio from the Music Department of the University of North Texas. Following the entertainment, Czech pastries, coffee and punch were served to all the guests and everyone took the opportunity to meet the guests of honor in person.

From The State Youth Director Christmas Among Czechs In many countries December 6th, the Day of Saint Nicholas, Den Svateho Mikula g e, the bishop of Smyrna, who became the patron of children, scholars, lonely wayfarers and many others, is of considerable importance to children who look forward to it as an occasion for gifts.

Czech children believe that on that day Saint MikuI8, as they call him, descends from heaven on a golden rope and wanders about the earth rewarding good children and admonishing naughty ones. They hang their stockings outside the window or near it so that when the Saint passes by he can drop gifts into them. This is in case he or one of his "representatives" does not find the time to make a visit to their home, attired in bishop's robes and accompanied by his traditional attendants on such expeditions- an angel or a red - tongued devil. The devil carries a basket of switches and a long chain which he rattles significantly while the angel has toys and sweets for the good children.

The 24th of December, Christmas Eve -- StedrY veer is a fast day and many do not eat until evening. The children are urged to abstain from food until evening so that they may see the "golden pig." When the evening meal is finally served, it is well worth waiting for. Its preparation has taken days or even weeks. It is meatless; baked carp served with a dark sauce is the chief dish.

There are all sorts of preserved fruits, nuts, candies and cakes, among them apple strudel. The table is decorated with dried fruit and with loaves of special Christmas bread known as "Vanoela" - the word for Christmas is "Vanoce" in Czech.

After the evening meal, the family gathers around the Christmas tree and presents are distributed. Then they try to look into the future. Melted lead or wax is poured into water and from the shape it takes, fortunes are told.

Apples cut across so as to show a star of kernels indicate coming events. The girls set tiny candles in nutshells and float them in pans of water; she whose candle floats upright the longest and burns to the end will have the best husband and the longest life. It is also the custom for the girls to go into the garden and rattle the ice- covered branches of a bush, preferably a lilac bush. Roused by the noise, the dogs in the neighborhood begin to bark. From the direction from which the first barking is heard will come the girl's husband.

At midnight the Catholic family attends Mass. The church is beautifully decorated with evergreen and Christmas trees, and there is always an elaborate Christmas crib or Bethlehem," showing the Holy Family in the stable together with the Three Kings, angels, and shepherds. The Christmas celebration in Czechoslovakia lasts three days; where it is possible, both the 25th and 26th of December are kept as holidays by the Czechs and Slovaks in America. The Czech greets his friends on Christmas Day with a "Vesele Vanoce" and Slovak says "Vesele Vianoce."

Lodge 6 Cottonwood Youth Activities Dear Members and Friends: Cottonwood Youth Club donated cakes to West Rest Haven, cakes and items to St. Paul's Bazaar, and sausage kolache to the Leroy Fire Department.

A Halloween Party was held on October 27th and we served hot dogs, punch and goodies. The youth had a Dustin Kruse lot of fun with balloon game and pinata. During this time, they also sold Northside Elementary and is a member SPJST candy. of the church youth choir.

30 Taiton Youth Participate In Iumerous Activities Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Taiton SPJST Lodge 30 Youth Club had their monthly meeting November 5th at 2:30 p.m. at the Taiton Community Center.

President Stephanie Roye called the meeting to order, Lenice Kaspar led the pledge, and Bradley Krpec said a prayer.

Sixteen members were present, along with special guests Joyce Kahanek, Mary Mrnustik and Lottie Krutilek.

Lenice Kaspar read the secretary's minutes, Craig Dorotik gave the treasurer's report, and Craig Dornak gave the dues report.

Thank you letters from Miss Mary Mrnustik (Taiton Lodge 30 president), SPJST State Youth Director Claudette Reese, and Meadow Lane School for the club's recent donation to the Special Olympics were read.

Stephanie announced the various activities the youth club members had been involved in during the month of October. These included October 14 performing in Rosenberg and Hallettsville; October 21 -- Texas Fraternal Congress in DeSoto, Texas; October 29 -- District VI Fall Social in El Campo - Hillje.

November charity projects were handed in which were canned goods for the needy and coke tabs for a dialysis machine.

On November 27, a workshop will be held at 4:30 p.m. at the home of Youth Leader Georgia Dorotik to finish table decorations for the Christmas Party and to practice for our Christmas program.

Thanksgiving poems were read by many members and a special Thanksgiving program was presented

by Curtis Dorotik, Bradley Krpec, Craig Dornak, Michael Kaspar, Craig Dorotik, Sarah Dluhos and Jeanine Dorotik.

We wished "Happy Birthday" to the November birthday celebrants who were Jeanine Dorotik, Valerie Roye and Mrs. Joyce Kahanek.

The November 19, 1989 meeting of Lodge No. 66 Youth Club was called to order at 1:03 p.m. by President Jesika Tierce.

Fund - raising plans for this month are Christmas program at Moody Rest Home and a Christmas Parade in Bellmead.

This month's social will be a Christmas program at Linden Hall on December 9th.

The charity project for this month will be a Christmas program for Moody Rest Home on December 17 at 1:30 p.m.

Our Youth Leader Gladys Yates reported we need to practice for the program November 28 and December 4 at 7 p.m.

The next youth club meeting will be on December 17 at 2 p.m. at Linden Hall.

Dear Readers, The November 12, 1989 meeting of Lodge No. 24, Cyclone Youth Club was called to order at 2:30 p.m. by Vice President Christy Marek.

Melanie Zavodny led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag; members remained standing for a moment of silence.

Secretary Kristie Waits called the roll with eleven members and one adult present.

The secretary then read a thank you note received from the Bell County Child Welfare Board. They thanked us for the donation we made to this organization.

We discussed our Christmas Party and program which will be held on Sunday, December 10, 1989. The festivities will begin at 3 p.m. We will have a special meeting to plan and practice for the program. The youth leader will let members know the exact date and time of this meeting. Instead of drawing names for exchanging gifts this year, parents of youth members will bring their child a present to the party.

The meeting was adjourned at 3 p.m. Door prizes were won by Jennifer Ashcraft and Bradley Marek.

Happy Birthday to Bradley Marek (November 22) and Gary Coots (November 20).

The youth and lea ► 0.-s of Lodge 24 went to the Southland Villa Nursing Home in Temple on Sunday, October 29, 1989. We brought Halloween decorations to the patients and put smiles on their faces. Then we went skating and to eat pizza. It was a very exciting afternoon.

We would like to thank our mother lodge for their generous donation they gave us this past month. We highly appreciate their warm gratitude and their never - ending support to our club. Thanks Lodge 24 officers and members!

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of our Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28, East Bernard, Texas on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our

sympathy to the bereaved family of our lodge sister ANNIE KNESEK KUBELKA, age 72, who passed away September 8, 1989.

Sister Annie was born July 12, 1917 to Gus and Carrie Gaijdosek in Frenstat, Texas.

Services were held by Monsignor Roman Widacki from Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Frenstat, Texas.

Interment was in the Holy Rosary Cemetery, Frenstat. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Phillips - Luckey Funeral Home of Caldwell, Texas.

Survivors include her husband, Willie A. Kubelka of Frenstat; also five children, five sisters and two brothers.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.

Saturday, November 18, 1989 in the Galloway and Sons Chapel in Three Rivers, with Pastor C .C. Grosenbacher officiating. Interment was in the Three Rivers Cemetery.

Sister Dolezal was born August 25, 1901 in Hill County, near Abbott, the daughter of Josef and Elizabeth Cvikel. She married Frank W. Dolezal on November 27, 1917. He preceded her in death on April 2, 1986. She was a housewife and cook for Albert's Cafe and Restaurant for 18 years.

Sister Dolezal was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of the Assumption, KJZT No. 11, and was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 54 since May, 1944.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Snokhous on June 25, 1978.
