Minutes Of The First Regular Quarterly Meeting Of The Supreme Lodge SPJST Held April 10 - 11, 1989 At The Home Office In Temple, Texas The meeting was called to order at 9:10 a.m. with following Supreme Lodge members present: Howard B. Leshikar, Pres.

Sidney Kacir, Legal Advisor Andrew Vavra - I Willie E. Kohutek - II Cyrill Pokladnik - III, Chairman of the Board Stanley Broz - IV Louis Hanus - V Matt S. Vanek - VI, Vice Chairman of the Board Thelma Hrncir - VII Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas was not present for the April 10th session of the meeting so that he could attend the funeral of a nephew. He was excused from the Monday session on motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Gebala and carried unanimously.

MINUTES - The minutes of the January 9 - 11, 1989 Supreme Lodge meeting were considered page - by page. There were no corrections and the minutes were approved as presented on motion by Director Hrncir, seconded by Director Broz and carried unanimously.

REPORTS - The Supreme Lodge officers' reports were acknowledged on motion by Director Hrncir, seconded by Director Broz and carried unanimously. The reports will be placed of record in Exhibits Volume 8.

It was announced that members are welcome to visit Supreme Lodge meetings for regular business sessions.

Exceptions are during personnel disciplinary matters and certain executive sessions as provided in Article 33(d) of the By - Laws. It was reported that it has been a longstanding policy for members to be welcome to visit board meetings.

OLD BUSINESS President Leshikar's Old Business Matters: SCHOLARSHIPS - Dr. Tom Liston of Texas State Technical Institute was called into the meeting to bring information on vocational scholarship programs. The possibility of extending our scholarship program to include students of technical colleges was under consideration. Dr. Liston explained tuition costs, degree programs and general information about technical programs and offered the expertise of TSTI in the selection of technical scholarships. Action was postponed until later the July Supreme Lodge meeting.

Recess for lunch was taken at 11:45 a.m. until 1:30 p.m.

Report was made on 1989 - 1990 scholarships. A total of 57 scholarships was awarded for the sum of $28,500. The remainder of $809.84 remaining in the scholarship fund will be increased to $1,000 and presented to the scholarship fund of the university administering the selection process.

The authorizing motion was by Director Hrncir seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

SOCIETY PROJECT - Report was heard on the Czech Chair and Battleship of Texas restoration projects.

FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES Consideration was given to a list of service projects for the benefit of senior citizens. There was a general discussion about the need to stress fraternal activities in our local lodges,

and come up with ways to appeal to the vast store of volunteer talent in both our active and inactive members.

TECHNICAL SCHOOL SCHOLAR SHIPS - Consideration was given to the question on whether to proceed with obtaining more information and additional details on administration and selection in connection with the Technical School scholarship proposal.

Director Kohutek moved that additional information be obtained on setting up and administering technical school scholarships for consideration in the July Supreme Lodge meeting.

Director Vavra seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

TOURNAMENTS - Report was heard on the Tarok, domino and volleyball tournaments. Opinion was expressed that the tournaments have helped to provide a sense of fraternalism among our members and lodges.

On motion by Vice President Gebala, it was decided to sponsor volleyball tournaments in 1989 with the same budget as the previous year.

Seconded by Director Vavra and carried unanimously.

On motion by President Leshikar seconded by Vice President Gebala, it was decided to include the third place teams in the State Domino Tournament. Motion carried unanimously.

FRATERNAL FEST - It was agreed to get details and information on having a Fraternal Fest on October 1 in conjunction with the Central Texas State Fair at the Bell County Expo Center. Decision was to be made by the Supreme Lodge officers and directors be notified by mail. Motion

by Director Hrncir, seconded by Vice President Gebala and carried unanimously.

President Leshikar deferred the remainder of his report to allow Legal Advisor Kacir to discuss legislative matters needing immediate consideration. Legislation was being considered that would require all fraternals to participate in the guaranty fund.

Vice President Gebala moved and Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska seconded that a position be taken that fraternal societies not be included in the State Guaranty Fund. Motion carried unanimously.

On the matter of a law that would require external audits, it was decided to support the requirement that each fraternal society conduct an external audit. The SPJST By - Laws already require such audits.

President Leshikar continued with his old business matters.

"SPJST Czech Fraternal Fest" was the name chosen for the proposed fraternal festival. Motion by Director Vavra seconded by Director Vanek and carried unanimously.

RECOGNITION OF MEMBERS It was reported that a majority of lodges have ceremonies honoring their 50 - year pin recipients. Also the importance of recognizing local lodge workers was stressed since they give a great deal of their time and effort to lodge and fraternal work.

LODGE OFFICERS' WORKSHOP - After discussion, the 1990 workshop was set for the last Saturday of February to be held in the Central Texas area.

CZECH LANGUAGE TAPES After discussion, President Leshikar

moved that the previous action to not copyright the language tapes be reconsidered. Director Hanus seconded and the motion carried unanimously. After discussion, Director Hrncir moved that the Czech language tapes be copyrighted with an appropriate statement. The motion was seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously.

SPJST 1992 CONVENTION There was a review of arrangements for the Convention to begin on June 14, 1992 at the Victoria Community Center in Victoria, Texas.

LIAISON WITH PUBLIC OFFICIALS - It was proposed that lodge officials should be encouraged to meet with state and national public officials and invite such officials to their functions with special emphasis given to annual picnics, Christmas parties, charity fund raisers, benefits, etc. It was also decided to utilize to lodge legislative liaison person in the lodges and establish a system to track how many contacts are made within the SPJST to enable us to target those legislators and officials who were not reached.

FAMILY RECREATIONAL AREA (FRA) - Information on a FRA of another fraternal society was distributed and reviewed.

Consideration was given to the proposed FRA and it was suggested that available information be compiled for decision during the July Supreme Lodge meeting.

President Leshikar moved that continued efforts be made in visiting and gathering information on other camp facilities. He further moved that we pursue information on determining whether profitability of new products can bear the additional expense of the FRA and that appropriate study be obtained on product profitability.

Director Hanus seconded and the motion carried unanimously.

Vice President Gebala's Old Business Matters: SALES TRAINING - Report was made that 191 sales representatives attended the last continuing education sales seminar. He indicated that additional training is needed to obtain the level of proficiency needed.

TERM PREMIUMS - New term rates were distributed to sales representatives attending the last seminar and the remainder will be hand delivered tc those who did not attend the seminar.

INSURANCE AVAILABLE - As directed in the previous Supreme Lodge meeting, the Supreme Lodge officers investigated a small insolvent fraternal company and after examining the assets and business of the company decided that its acquisition would not be in the best interests of the SPJST. EMERGENCY DISASTER PLAN FOR COMPUTER - Report was made on an agreement with Texas Hydraulics of Temple on a disaster plan for emergency data processing should such need ever arise.

Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska's Old Business Matters: REAL ESTATE OWNED - No property was foreclosed during the quarter, but the following properties are owned from previous trustee's sales.

1. REO NO. 163, Longview lodge property - Detailed report was made on efforts to sell the property before listing it with a realtor. After discussion a motion was adopted to authorize the Supreme Lodge officers and Director Pokladnik to list and negotiate sale of the property for $325,000 with a Longview area realtor.

The motion was made by Director

Broz, seconded by Director Kohutek and carried unanimously.

2. REO NO. 164, residence in Burleson County, Texas. Report was made on efforts to sell the property.

Recommendations for disposal were heard.

After discussion, a motion was adopted to lower the price to $12,000 and fully authorize Supreme Lodge officers to negotiate a sales price. The motion was made by Vice President Gebala, seconded by Director Vavra and it carried unanimously.

3. REO NO. 170, residence at 1700 North Preston in Ennis, Texas. Report was given on repairs to the foundation and residence.

The current listing price was reported to be $132,500. The Supreme Lodge officers and Director Pokladnik were given authority to further negotiate the price and terms of the sale. Motion by Director Vavra, seconded by Vice President Gebala and carried unanimously.

Legal Advisor Kacir's Old Business Matters: FORECLOSURES - Report was made on scheduled foreclosures in process and foreclosures that were settled prior to holding trustee's sales.

BANKRUPTCIES - Report was made on eight bankruptcies of individuals who have real estate loans with the SPJST. LEGISLATIVE MATTERS Updated information was given on various legislative matters including a recent proposal that Texas fraternal societies be included in a guaranty fund.

HOMESTEAD LAWS - There was a general discussion about the homestead laws as they apply to real property financed by the SPJST. He responded to a question why one loan was declined due to a potential homestead question.

Recess for the day was taken at 7:25 p.m. until April 11th at 8:30 a.m.

Financial Secretary Mikulas was present for the Tuesday session.

SPJST LODGE 186, CALDWELL Lodge No. 186 President O.T. Wine and Irvin Moore appeared before the Supreme Lodge and requested information about a loan for the lodge to purchase property in the future.

Financial Secretary Mikulas' Old Business Matters: VESTNIK - Number of Vestnik subscribers stands at 8,446 as of April 1, 1989. The total cost per week for postage now amounts to $898. Cost of printing the Vestnik amounts to approximately $1,183 per week.

AUDIT - The independent audit with Peat Marwick Main and Company began on February 15, 1989 with an estimated completion date of May 31, 1989. The final report will be delivered no later than June 30, 1989.

REFUND TO LODGES - The check for the refund due Lodge No. 58, Hungerford was returned because the lodge is no longer active. The amount will be retained for the benefit of the lodge.

Directors' Old Business Matters: Director Vavra reported on his functions and activities during the quarter.

Director Kohutek reported on his travels and activities.

Director Broz discussed business he conducted.

Director Hanus gave a report on his activities and reviewed routine problems he worked on during the quarter.

Director Vanek reported that the Victoria College had begun teaching the Czech language. He reported on his activities and involvement in

Director Hrncir encouraged vigorous promotion of the Czech language tapes.

Director Pokladnik discussed the good relationships created by the sales incentive trip to the Bahamas and complimented Vice President Gebala on the arrangements. He stated that the sales training programs recently held were very good, and it was important that all sales representatives attend. He discussed information he obtained at a recent NFCA seminar, which included the importance of lodges promoting their activities through newspaper articles.

Miscellaneous Old Business Matters: LODGE DUES - It was agreed on motion duly adopted that all lodges be notified by Financial Secretary Mikulas that the Supreme Lodge will assist with collection of lodge dues by providing mailing labels and proposed sample letters. The motion was by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Director Hrncir and carried unanimously.

ORIGINAL LODGE BUILDINGS - A report was given on proposed preservation of the following original lodge buildings: Lodge 1 - Fayetteville, Lodge 19 - Velehrad, Lodge 20 Granger, Lodge 21 - Engle, and Lodge 23 - Moravia.

A motion was adopted to create a committee consisting of the Supreme Lodge president and directors involved, to come up with a recommendation that is consistent with the Finance Committee recommendation approved by the convention for further consideration during the July Supreme Lodge meeting. The motion was by Legal Advisor Kacir, seconded by Secretary Treasurer Mikeska and carried unanimously.

CEMETERIES - Report was made on a number of SPJST cemeteries, and it was understood that a recommendation would be prepared for consideration in the July Supreme Lodge meeting consistent with the report on original lodge buildings.

John Hilsher of Lodge 88 - Houston and Herbert Lange of Lodge 106 - La Grange visited the meeting.

YOUTH DEPARTMENT - SYD Claudette Reese was called into the meeting to review her activities. She reported on the Camp T - Shirt Design Contest, the Spring District Youth Counselor meeting, and the Youth Leaders' Retreat.

An additional bid was submitted on the proposed candy sales fund - raising project for later consideration.

The Supreme Lodge was asked to reconsider the previous decision to award a $500 scholarship to the State King and Queen. This concluded SYD's report.

Recess for lunch was taken from 12 noon until 1 p.m.

A motion was adopted approving the candy project. Motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Gebala and carried unanimously. Cost to the Society cannot exceed $250.

A motion to reconsider the award to the State King and Queen was adopted. Motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Vavra and carried unanimously.

Legal Advisor Kacir moved that we continue awarding the State King and Queen a similar quality watch as in the past. Director Broz seconded and the motion carried with 11 in favor and Director Hrncir voting in opposition.

It was agreed on motion duly adopted to award $500 scholarships to the State King and Queen under the same qualification requirements as our

regular Scholarship Program, except that the scholarships must be used within two years after graduation. The two scholarships are allocated out of our regular Scholarship Program. The motion was made by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously. The program will be effective for the State King and Queen selected in August of 1989.

NEW BUSINESS President Leshikar's New Business Matters: LODGE FRATERNALIST OF THE YEAR - Recommendation was given to recognize each local lodge fraternalist of the year by presenting them with an inexpensive plaque at spring district meetings, because opinion was expressed that our volunteer workers should be recognized. Difference of opinion was expressed, and there was discussion.

President Leshikar moved, Director Broz seconded that the Fraternalist of the Year selected by each lodge be recognized at the spring district meeting and that each be presented a small gift item. Motion carried unanimously.

SPJST CALENDAR - A motion vas adopted to send an SPJST calendar to each household along with a brief report on the Society beginning with the 1990 calendar. Motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska and it carried unanimously. It was suggested that the calendar be mailed earlier in December or late November before the Christmas mail rush.

DISTRICT LODGE FRATERNAL ACTIVITIES' COORDINATORS (FAC) Authorization was requested to conduct approximately 6 - hour workshops for his new lodge FAC position. There was difference of opinion on how long the workshop should last. It was also brought up that any food or refreshments provided should be similiar to what is provided at sales training classes. Some board members proceeded to suggest the kind of snacks to provide.

Authorization was given to President Leshikar to conduct area FAC workshops and to provide refreshments and pastries. Agreed by common consent.

TOURS - Information was given on the possibility of organizing tours for SPJST members. Members of the board expressed their opinions. A motion was adopted to authorize President Leshikar to organize trips utilizing travel agents provided that there would be no cost involved to the SPJST other than promotion time, and the SPJST would not be responsible for the trips. Motion by President Leshikar, seconded by Director Kohutek and carried unanimously.

Vice President Gebala's New Business Matters: TAX LAW CHANGES - It was reported a new Federal Law has been passed that changes the tax treatment of loans and withdrawals for certain life insurance certificates, especially those with a high premium in relation to the death benefit.

INSURANCE CONSERVATION PROGRAM - There was discussion of a proposal concerning conservation of business of those members requesting surrender and cancellation of their certificates. Vice President Gebala proposed that the conservation contact on surrenders be made by Home Office employees who are sales representatives to expedite procedure and insure that the members are contacted and conserved if possible.

The present procedures using State Field Representatives and local sales representatives was not producing the desired results. He agreed to work up a commission arrangement that would be equitable. On motion by Director Hanus, seconded by Director Broz it was agreed to present more information on the matter for consideration in the July Supreme Lodge meeting. Motion carried unanimously.

Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska's New Business Matters:— DELINQUENT LOANS - A report recommending action on delinquent loans was considered and the recommendations were approved on unanimously adopted motion by Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska, seconded by Director Hrncir.

STAFF TRAINING - Secretary Treasurer Mikeska reported on plans to send one employee to a seminar and perhaps more later and the importance of proper training was stressed. After discussion a motion was adopted authorizing the Supreme Lodge officers to send Home Office staff members to seminars that pertain to their job skills and will improve their job performanc The motion was by Vice President Gebala, seconded by President Leshikar and it carried unanimously.

MINUTES OF SUPREME LODGE OFFICERS' MEETINGS - The minutes of officers' meetings were approved on unanimously adopted motion by Director Hrncir, seconded

by Director Vavra.

FIRST QUARTER INVESTMENTS - The investments and loans made during the first quarter were ratified on motion by Director Broz seconded by Director Hanus.

Motion carried unanimously.

The Investment Policy of the Society was reviewed. No changes were made.

ANNUITY - UNIVERSAL LIFE INTEREST RATES - Information was presented to help the Supreme Lodge reach a decision on setting a rate for our two interest - sensitive products.

The return on annuity designated assets was stated to be approximately 9.37 percent.

Information was given on regulations that appear to provide that interest rates on annuities cannot be decreased more than once every 12 months and furthermore cannot be decreased earlier than 12 months after the last increase.

The possibility of studying our annuity product was discussed and research on product enhancement was suggested. A more simplified method of calculating interest using a daily factor to produce a desired annualized rate was previously approved and being studied.

After due consideration, a motion

by Director Hanus, seconded by Director Hrncir was unanimously adopted setting the rates as follows: 1. The Universal Life rate was set at 9 percent annualized effective through July 31, 1989.

2. The interest rate for the accumulaton period on annuities was increased from 8 percent to 81/2 percent for the period from May 1, 1989 through July 31, 1989.

3. The annuity payout rate was set at 81/2 percent effective through July 31, 1989.

REAL ESTATE LOANS Mortgage loan rates were reviewed and found to be somewhat lower than competitive rates and were left unchanged in an attempt to appeal to more of our members.

Clarification was asked on the Board position on the consideration of loans secured by rental property.

Several applications' requests were submitted. A survey indicated there was some concern about the making of rental property loans of up to 75 percent of appraised value and loans at a lower percentage of appraisal value might be more desirable. The following decision was reached: Loan applications would be considered on one or two family residential rental property based on the lesser of 21/2 percent of the appraised value or purchase price. The commercial interest rates will apply. The motion was by Director Hanus, seconded by Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska and carried with 11 in favor and Vice President Gebala abstaining. It was understood that the term of such loans could not exceed 15 years as is the case with commercial loans.

One or more directors had expressed opinion that they were not able to make many loans because the fee at time of application was too high.

The loan application fees were reviewed together with options to allow a portion of the fee to be paid at application and the remainder to be paid later. After discussion, it was decided to leave the application fee schedule as is. Motion by Director Vavra seconded by Director Hanus.

Carried unanimously.

ESCROW ACCOUNTS FOR TAXES AND INSURANCE - Because of the long agenda and lack of time, consideration of an escrow program for members' loans was deferred to the July Supreme Lodge meeting.

HOME IMPROVEMENT LOANS - Brief consideration was given to a special home improvement loan program for members who had first lien mortgages with the SPJST and because it would require a By - Law Change Referendum, it was deferred to the January 1990 Supreme Lodge meeting.

PURCHASE OF EQUIPMENT - A typewriter purchased for the Secretary - Treasurer's Department was ratified on motion by Director Hrncir seconded by Financial Secretary Mikulas. Motion carried unanimously.

NFCA STUDY - It was reported that the SPJST was participating in an NFCA feasibility study on risk retention. If it is successful, the study could lead to an insurance program that could affect the cost and placement of our liability insurance.

FRATERNAL INVESTMENT ASSOCIATION (FIA) Authorization was granted to Secretary - Treasurer Mikeska to attend the FIA Annual Conference in Illinois. The motion of approval was made by Director Broz, seconded by President Leshikar and carried unanimously.

WORKERS' COMPENSATION INSURANCE - Report was made on a substantial increase in the workers' compensation insurance premiums due to claims experience. It was also reported that the insurance carrier had inspected the Home Office and is recommending that a center handrail be installed on the lobby stairway to the museum. The recommendation was being considered. The report was received the day before and more time was needed to look into the matter.

STATE FIELD PERSONNEL First quarter bonuses were approved for business written by the Home Office state field employees. The motion was by Director Broz, seconded by Director Vanek and carried unanimously.

Wednesday, May 17, 1989—VESTNiK/5 VESTNIK - The cost of the Vestnik for non - members who subscribe to the Vestnik was set at $14.

DELEGATE RATIO - It was reported that all lodge presidents will be notified and provided with information concerning premiums remitted in 1988 and also the 1987 base year, which will be used in determining delegate representation by each lodge to the 1992 Convention.

INCOME AND EXPENSE - The statement of income and expenses for the first quarter of 1989 was reviewed.

Legal Advisor Kacir's New Business Matters: LEGAL MATTERS - Legal Advisor Kacir presented information on various legal areas and provided timely information.

DIRECTORS' NEW BUSINESS MATTERS: Director Vavra discussed lodge activities and other matters of interest.

Director Kohutek reviewed activities in the district and other matters of interest. expressed Broz Director appreciation for having the opportunity to participate in the sales' incentive trip. He invited everyone to the upcoming District IV meeting on April 23, 1989. He commented on the conservation policy of the SPJST and felt we were on the right course.

Director Hanus discussed matters of interest. He also discussed and sought clarification of the procedure a lodge should use in purchasing lodge supplies to be exempt from State Sales Tax. Lodges were encouraged to contact the Home Office if they need

assistance in obtaining tax exemption forms.

A portrait of Tim Kostotn, the 1988 Fraternalist of the Year, was presented to President Leshikar for the archives.

Director Vanek discussed items of interest and activities within the district.

Director Hrncir spoke favorably of the sales' incentive trip and expressed feelings that the fellowship was of benefit to the organization. She invited everyone to attend the District VII meeting in San Antonio and stated she enjoyed the meeting.

Director Pokladnik invited everyone to attend the District III meeting. He encouraged everyone to keep up the good work and apologized for the fact that he had to push to be able to complete the meeting in two days.

Authorization was granted to Director Pokladnik to represent the SPJST at the upcoming Sons of Hermann Convention. The motion was by Director Broz, seconded by Director Vanek and it carried unanimously.

Authorization was granted to any Supreme Lodge officer desiring to attend the LIMRA meeting in Hartford, Connecticut on June 5 6, 1989. The motion was by President Leshikar, seconded by Vice President Gebala and it carried unanimously.

JULY MEETING - The next regular meeting of the Supreme Lodge was set to begin on July 10, 1989 at 9 a.m.

First Vice President Annie Vahalik introduced the following guests: Supreme Lodge Legal Advisor Sidney Kacir and his wife, Dorothy; District Director Matt Vanek and his wife, Henrietta; State Field Representative Jerome Hlavaty and his wife, Henrietta; Rest Homes Director Erwin Holy and his wife, Evelyn.

All district officers responded to the roll call of officers. In the roll call of standing committee members, all responded except Publication Committee Member Sophie Dybala.

Ten lodges responded to the roll call of lodges. The minutes of the spring and fall meetings of 1988 were read and approved as read.

District Treasurer A.J. "Tony" Kelner gave the treasurer's report. In the Youth Fund, there was a balance, on October 1, 1987, of $408.66. The expenses were $355, leaving a balance on April 1, 1988, of $53.66. In 1988, there was a deposit of $2121.55, expenses were $1420.45, leaving a balance on October 1, 1988 of $754.76.

There was a deposit of $30.33, expenses were $595.33, leaving a final balance, as of April 1, 1989, of $189.76 in the Youth Fund. In the General Expense Fund, there was a balance of $628.62 as of October 1, 1987. The expenses were $510.00, leaving a balance on April 1, 1988 of $118.62. In 1988, there were deposits of $550.00 and $350.00. Expenses were $592.41, leaving a balance on October 1, 1988 of $426.21. Since then, there was a deposit of $150.00, expenses were $395.33, leaving a final balance of April 1, 1989 of $180.88.

District Director Matt Vanek brought greetings from the Supreme Lodge. He asked everyone to rise in respect of recently deceased Sales Representative Felix Jurica of Lodge No. 63, Sweet Home. He announced Rita Vanek (Lodge No. 40) was one of the five finalists for "Fraternalist of the Year." A workshop had been held for lodge officers recently with liability being one of the sessions. There was talk of having the sales representatives licensed, but the SPJST proposed a plan where the salesmen would attend two meetings of three hours each so they could be exempt from licensing.

The top three salesmen in 1988 were Mary Matula (Lodge 4), Annimae Merta (30) and James Bacak (40).

They were presented incentive checks.

Jerome Hiavaty (153) sold over a million dollars of insurance. District VI salesmen sold over $4 million in 1988. Lodge No. 10, Shiner has a sales representative now and he sold $225,000 in 3 months. There are now two salesmen in Yoakum; Hungerford Lodge No. 58 is dormant and a salesman is being sought in Weimar. In 1970, District VI sold $300,000 worth of insurance; now that amount is assigned per month. Director Vanek announced that Placedo and Inez elected to have a Battle Dance on May 21st in order to raise funds. The Convention in 1988 assigned some funds to the original lodges so they could repair lodge halls and cemeteries. Velehrad and Moravia are fixing up their halls and Shiner and Moravia cemeteries are in good shape.

However, the Velehrad Cemetery, which is not an SPJST cemetery but does have our first Supreme Lodge Vice President buried there, is in very bad repair.

Director Vanek said there were 140 applications for scholarships with 64 being issued; the SPJST gives more scholarships then any other fraternal in the state; $25,000 is appropriated

for this fund but the members contributed $14,000 more this year.

The Referendum for extending the deadline to October 16th for the Supreme Lodge to look into the purchase of a Family Recreation Center had passed. State Queen Marcy Dorotik was to participate in a parade in Troy. Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas had sent out 10,000 cards, of which 8,000 were returned, as to whether members wished to receive the Vestnik. Loans were available.

The 1992 Convention has been set for June 14th - 18th in Victoria. The contract had been given to the Supreme Lodge. Volunteers from District VI would be needed. It was decided that the district secretary write the lodges in the district requesting a number as to how many would help with the convention. Director Vanek concluded by recognizing Mrs. Ed Sralla, wife of the former director and also Albert Lupik and Annimae Merta, "Fraternalist of the Year" of their respective lodges.

Supreme Lodge Legal Advisor Sidney Kacir complimented Director Vanek and all committee members.

Soon the 100th year anniversary of the Society will be here. Members are active and quotas have been set involving insurance, fraternalism and youth. Legal Advisor Kacir invited everyone to the Home Office and Museum. Many donations have been given the library and museum, perhaps causing the move to a separate building or the forming of a corporation. He informed everyone that several books had recently been published about the Czech heritage.

Regarding scholarships, he said the base may have to be broadened to include technical schools. Legal Advisor Kacir concluded by presenting the following checks to District Treasurer Kelner $800 to the General Expense Fund, $250 for the YAD. and $2762.50 to the Youth Fund for 5525 certificates at 50 cents each.

Rest Homes Director Erwin Holy began his report by introducing several lodge fraternalists and congratulating the State Queen. Both of the rest homes were in good shape and full.

Charges may have to rise if there is an increase in the minimum wage. The last note on the Needville home was paid on January 1, 1989. In order to meet state requirements, the facilities are constantly being updated. The average age of the patients at the rest homes is 88, with the oldest being 103.

Rest Homes Director Holy concluded by saying there would be a directors' meeting on April 15th in Needville.

State Field Representative Jerome Hiavaty reported that the quota for District VI in 1989 is $3 million. As of March 1st, $1,006,000 worth of insurance had been sold. The top three salesmen for the first three months were James Bacak, Jeffry Chunda and Mary Matula. The earned premium leaders were Jeffry Chunda, James Bacak and Leroy Repka. District VI has 21 active sales representatives (ten were present at the district meeting).

Lessons had been held in March at Hillje and Hallettsville for the salesmen's six hours of continuing education. Anyone missing these lessons should contact him. State Field Representative Hlavaty thanked Vice President Bernie Gebala and the insurance force for their support and the outstanding insurance packages.

There was no old business or new business.

The Nominating Committee, consisting of Joe Nezval, Frankie Vanek and Mike Ahlstrom, presented the following slate of officers, namely:

Leona Macha made a motion the slate be accepted as presented with a second from Mary Mrnustik. The motion carried.

The Auditing Committee, consisting, at various times, of Rita Vanek, Anita Roye, Leona Macha, Frankie Vanek and Madeline Shimek, made the following recommendations: the treasurer be authorized to purchase a three - check checkbook for his use and the District Youth Fund go through the treasurer and on to the youth counselor who would have control of the funds. The youth counselor's books would then also be audited. Rita Vanek, reporting for the Auditing Committee, complimented the work done on the flags and flagpoles and said the Youth and General Expense Fund books were in order.

There was much discussion on who would host the fall social meeting.

There was some concern on who would bear the expense above the money provided by the General Expense Fund. Johnny Richardson suggested each lodge pay for the number of guests attending from that lodge. Rita Vanek said it was a district function and all lodges should participate. A planning meeting should be held about three months prior to the district meeting with all lodges represented. El Campo - Hillje Lodge accepted the hosting duties for the fall meeting with the stipulation that all lodges participate. The meeting would be on October 29th with a Halloween theme.

A meeting of the district officers, along with Lodge No. 40 officers, would be held in the summer.

District Youth Counselor Anita Roye thanked the 1988 Convention and sales representatives for the increase to the Youth Fund. Assistant Youth Counselor Karen Kaspar presented the youth program. Kim Kacal (Lodge 40) told a German story, the group sang "0 Susannah" and Victoria and El Campo Youth Clubs joined to dance "Popcorn," Lodge 30, Taiton did two tap dances, played "Apples, Peaches, Pumpkin Pie" and sang "Smile."

There was an announcement for lodges to contribute to the Battleship Texas Fund.

President Wokaty and 1st Vice President Vahalik appointed the following to the Auditing Committee, namely: Rita Vanek, Leona Macha and Madeline Shimek.

The officers were installed by Legal Advisor Sidney Kacir.

The meeting was adjourned.

Our monthly meeting was held Tuesday, May 2nd at 7:30 p.m. This was our last night time meeting.

Beginning next month on June 11th, our monthly meetings will be held the second Sunday of each month. Please make a note of this on your calendar and try to come out and join us.

On the sick list this month is Pauline Marek who had surgery; we wish Pauline and any other of our members who are on the sick or recuperating list, a speedy recovery.

Our deepest sympathy to the family of Gilbert Stepan who died last month

8/VESTNIK—Wednesday, May 17, 1989 and also our deepest sympathy to the family of Dorothy Morris who died this week. We will miss seeing Dorothy at our meetings. She was such a faithful member and such .a sweet lady.

Both of these fine people will be missed by our community.

Birthdays for the month of May are Carol Chervenka (May 1st), Wilbert Mikeska (May 8th), Louise Zavodny (May 10th), Sherry Cabla (May 10th), Bernice Sebek (May 16th), Emily Psencik (May 21st), Ashley Veselka (May 22nd), Larry Posvar (May 27th) and Nancy Posvar (May 30th).

Anniversary for the month of May is for Angela and Ronald Gamble on May 1st.

Congratulations to all these people and we wish them very happy, special days.

The new Audit Committee for 1989 was named; they are Martha Zavodny, Billy Smetanka and Arleen Tschoerner. We thank these people for taking the job.

As I mentioned earlier in the letter, our meetings will be held on the second Sunday of each month at 2:30 p.m.

Following our June 11th meeting, we will have the 50 - year pin ceremony and supper. The lodge is furnishing the sausage, sauerkraut, bread, tea and coffee. Members are asked to bring a vegetable or salad and dessert. Please come out and join us and get our Sunday afternoon meetings off to a good start.

The Cyclone Youth Club will also have a barbecue chicken lunch on May 28th. Serving time is from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The lunch will consist of barbecue chicken, potato salad, slaw, beans, pickles, dessert and tea. Price is $4 and children's plates will be sold at a reduced price of $3. Come out and support our youth club; they are our lodge's future.

In support of our lodge's youth, the membership also voted at our meeting to give each king and queen contestant for the State Royalty $25 to help defray their expenses. Queen contestants from our lodge this year are Christi Marek , Susan Holman and Melanie Zavodny .

A big congratulations to the following youth from our lodge who are the winners of an SPJST scholarship this year, namely, Kim Hubnik, Jeffrey Richards, Kim Schneider, Pam Mikeska, Kim Schiller, Bart Martinec and Larry Kelarek. We wish these fine young people a happy, rewarding future in their endeavors.

Congratulations to Kristie Waits of our lodge who represented Rogers High School at the Regional Track Meet in Victoria last month. We're so proud of all our youth.

Winners of the door prizes were Rose Harvell and Wilbert Mikeska.

No. 54, West Quarterly Meeting

Lodge

The first quarterly meeting of 1989 was called to order by President Ted Kocian on March 12, 1989.

President Kocian led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Everyone remained standing for a few moments of silence in memory of

Brotlier Ervin Pustejovsky who died on February 27, 1989. We were also very saddened to hear of the passing this day of Brother Jan Vaculik's father. May these two brothers rest in eternal peace.

Roll call of officers indicated all to be present.

Secretary Anne Emery read the minutes of the December 4, 1988 meeting. These were approved as read.

Financial Secretary Maxine Sefcik gave her report, which was also approved as read. Three new adult members were signed up by Sales Representative Freddie Kaluza. These are Earline Rochester, Eldon R. Rochester and Thomas H. Urbanovsky. We welcome these new members to our lodge. We also welcome Brother Jered N. Smith Rochester who transferred to us from Lodge No. 66. Our membership totals now are -- 335 active members and 317 paidup members for a grand total membership of 652. She also reported on the Premium Refund Check received from the Home Office and read a letter from Supreme Lodge Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas.

Treasurer Freddie Kaluza gave the treasurer's report which was accepted as read.

President Kocian commended our newest Sales Representative Brother Freddie Kaluza for the fine work that he is doing.

A motion was made and seconded that we have full meals at our June and December meetings and light meals for our March and September meetings.

Motion carried. Ladies of the lodge will furnish cold cuts and snacks for the light meals and desserts for the full meals. Our lodge will furnish the drinks.

It was noted that Lone Star Hall is booked for the whole month of June, which would be our next meeting month. We may opt for a night meeting, the date of which will be announced later.

President Ted Kocian read a letter from Brother Howard Leshikar of Supreme Lodge regarding our members who are to receive 50 - year pins this year. The following members will receive their 50 - year membership pins by mail, namely, Steve Chupik, Jr., Raymond E. Gerik, Stanfield G. Janek, Charlie Kucera and Edmund Lee Popp.

Sister Beanie Kacir reported that the local unit activity totals for 1988 were 4,639 hours of fraternal service and $8,355.08 of charitable disbursements.

Thanks to the members who kept records and were kind enough to turn these in.

President Ted Kocian drew for the door prize which was won by Brother Freddie Kaluza.

The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed refreshments and fellowship after which a meal was served. Thanks to Sister Josephine Kocian for preparing the delicious spaghetti meal and to the ladies who brought desserts.

Lodge No. 88, Houston News It was called to my attention by Mrs. Henry Kite that Jerry Lopanec has had open heart surgery at Clear Lake Hospital, and now has had further surgery. Your friends at Lodge 88 are wishing you complete recovery, Jerry.

I've been out of pocket for 10 days, so must catch up on lost time. Arnold Cmajdalka, myself and Arnold's sister and husband Rosalee and Milton Nonnenmacher took this voyage to the Big Bend Country in a motorhome --quite a new experience for me, but it was a pleasant trip. You can't describe this to anyone; you must see it, God's beautiful creation. The McDonald Observatory in the Davis Mountains is most stunning, and I would love to spend more time there. The weather was not too good to observe the many planets through the 107 - inch telescope. This was my second time to the observatory; the first time was 36 years ago and, of course, there has been a great improvement since.

The Hlahol Dramatic Club of Lodge 88 presented a Czech Play "A v torn zamku byla panna" on April 16, 1989.

The play was well attended, well received and well delivered. Before the play, a Czech dinner was served, consisting of pork roast, knedliky, sweet sauerkraut like my mother used to make and good old brown gravy.

The pastry was furnished by our Lodge 88 Birthday Club. We had one lady who came in a wheelchair and brought a 3 - layer poppyseed cake. How is that for fraternalism? Lillie Spies, who is always in charge of the pastry, said all of this pastry was the best, and thanked all who brought some.

The play was taped and many people are asking for the tape, so I hope we'll get the tapes so we can sell them. I understand some people already paid in advance.

On April 29th the Nick Navarro Band played to a very good crowd.

Candy Cockrell was the hostess to the dance assisting her were Margaret Spahr; Ellie and Charles Grant and Kathy and Mike Trefell. Mike (in turn) showed his courtesy by opening the door to our members and guests. You

Homecoming with a "Splash" is coming very fast, so don't make other plans, because all members, who have a valid membership card, will get a free barbecue dinner, non - members will be charged $4.50 and a carryout is 25 cents extra. Games will be played from 2 to 4 p.m. and a dance by LeeRoy Matocha from 5 to 9 p.m.

On July 16th a Blue Room Party will take place from 4 to 9 p.m.; cocktails, dinner and dance for $12.50 per person. Tickets will go on sale May 1st in the Lodge 88 office. Music will be furnished by The Texas Borderline.

Tomorrow a very gracious lady, Dorothy Morris, a good wife and mother to five children will be laid to rest, after many days and months of suffering. Dorothy was loved by all who knew her. The family has our sincere sympathy.

Lodge 135, Ennis Lodge No. 179, President Valek Warrenton Makes Presentation Member Honored The members of Lodge Volna Cechie No. 135 made a contribution of $100 toward a worthy local project.

The Ennis High School award winning band has raised funds to fly to Florida to participate in the Main Street Parade at Disneyworld; while there, they will also perform at Epcot Center and will tour the Space Center facilities and other interesting sites.

The band was invited to participate in the parade due to its outstanding performances, sweepstake awards for continuous years and their appearance.

Lisa Laznovsky and Scott Hejny are Junior Honor Students at Ennis High School. Lisa is the daughter of Brother Larry and Sister Lil Laznovsky and Scott is the son of Brother Bill and Sister Marie Hejny.

Lodge No. 191, Lufkin If you were not in attendance at the May lodge meeting (meetings are the first Tuesday of each month), you missed a humdinger. The first hour was spent wondering and discussing why you were not there. It was generally agreed that all the fellows had worn their "right guard" and the ladies were nicely coiffeured, neatly attired and smelled great, so it had to be something else --- like maybe you did not like cleaning up after everyone --- so you do not have to anymore; from now on just walk away from any event at the lodge, a janitorial service will assist the host in handling that task. See you at the next event.

Recently some thoughtful persons have asked if they could make a donation to the lodge in memory of some special someone in their lives who had just passed away. To honor these special people, a memorial -plaque with their names on it will be prominently displayed at the lodge.

The person making the donation will be mailed a special acknowledgement.

"WHERE DO YOU FIT?" Are you an active member -- the kind that would truly be missed, or are you content to pay your dues and have your name on the list?

Do you attend the lodge events and mingle with the guys, or do you just stay home and criticize?

Do you ever volunteer to help those few who are the guiding stick, or do you leave the work to a few and then talk about the clique?

Come on out to the lodge and offer a helping hand and an open heart, don't just be a member who never takes an active part.

Lodge 191 Scholarship Award The 1989 SPJST Lodge No. 191 Scholarship Award of $500 has been given to MARIE ABSHER, a freshman at Sam Houston State University. Her grade point average during the first semester was 3.80 and her participation in university events were many. Congratulations, Marie!

The award will be presented at the anniversary dance on Saturday, July 29, 1989.

Lodge 191 Summertime Dances During June and August, a country and western band will perform on the second Saturday. During July and September, there will be a band on the second and fourth Saturday nights; on all other Saturday nights of the month, a D.J. will play the music. Our members voted to donate $50 each to the Restoration of the Battleship Texas and the Czech Chair.

Anyone wishing to make a personal donation may do so.

The ladies are asked to bring a lap robe to the next meeting. We will donate them to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. II in Needville. They should be at least 36 inches by 42 inches. You may use any material you wish, but it should be washable. Yours truly brought this idea up and I know there are lots of ideas out there we can use, so stand up and be heard!

We were pleased to have Mrs. Ruzena Urbanova as our guest; she is the mother of Zdenek Nedbalek and grandmother of Danny Nedbalek. She has since returned overseas to her home.

We were sorry that Brother Leon T. Dreahn was unable to attend our meeting to receive his 50 - year pin.

Sister Adell Griffin received her 50 year pin. Congratulations to both members.

This is a late congratulations, but congratulations to Sister Evelyn Mikeska for being elected District V president.

Czech Class At Alief In Summer Of 89 Alief Evening School under auspice:, of AISD (Alief Independent School District) is, again, offering a Conversational Czech course at Hastings High School. The location of this school is between Bellaire Blvd. on the south and Alief - Clodine on the north on the southwest side of the intersection of Cook Road and High Star Drive in the community of Alief.

The first lesson of this summer course, designed to develop basic skill in the Czech language wherever it is spoken, will be the 6th of June and henceforth for 6 weeks, Tuesdays and Thursdays, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuition, set by the school, will be $40 and the instructor will be John J. Reminiscing About Dorothy Morris Dear Members: Many of us were saddened to hear about the death of our beloved Sister Dorothy Morris.

I knew Dorothy for about 25 years, and I don't think I ever met anyone nicer. The church was filled with her many friends, and all one could hear while walking among the people were the most beautiful compliments about her. To know her was to love her.

Dorothy was a great lady; her kindness, thoughtfulness, and consideration for others endeared her to all. She had a way of making people feel good. She radiated cheer wherever she went, and I remember how wonderful it was just to meet her at one of our meetings.

The last time I saw Dorothy was at M.D. Anderson Hospital. The doctor was there so I had to wait, and she was so concerned about my having to stand; as always she was thinking of others and not herself. That time she stated that she would never let her family talk her into coming back to M.D. Anderson. I started to say something, but she emphasized that she never would.

I talked to Dorothy twice while she was in the Temple hospital and again at home. I am remembering (with tears) what she told me one time. She stated that it didn't matter how bad things were, there still was something good to be thankful for. Then she told about how Brother Nick took care of her, doing everything for her, and she mentioned her children. Suddenly I realized that while facing terminal illness, she still was counting her blessings! I couldn't speak. Could anyone be greater than that?

I am very thankful for the privilege of her friendship and that of her family. May God bless the family.

State King And Queen Participate In 1989 Rogers Parade King Daryl Kortis and Queen Marcy Dorotik were honored with an invitation to participate in the 1989 Rogers Annual Homecoming Parade.

The day started out a little overcast but by parade time, the sun was shining and beckoning all participants to take their turn in the limelight down the parade route.

Letters From The Youth Lodge 9 Snook Youth Activities Dear Readers, The Snook SPJST Youth Club had its regular monthly meeting on May 3rd. We discussed our Family Night which will be May 21st at the City Park. We also talked about the chicken dumpling supper on May 20th at the SPJST Hall. The program was given by Cheryl Schoeneman on "How to Make the Right Choice in Buying Film."

Our next meeting has been scheduled for May 31st rather than our regular meeting time.

24 Cyclone Youth Club

Dear Readers, The monthly meeting of Lodge No. 24 Youth Club was held Sunday, May 7, 1989. The meeting was called to order at 1:30 p.m. by President Christy Marek.

Jason Harvell led the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag and members remained standing for a moment of silent prayer for our deceased lodge members.

Secretary Melissa Holtman called the roll. There were 23 members, 6 adults and 2 guests, Gary Stock and Danny Williams. The minutes were then read and approved.

Kristie Waits gave the treasurer's report and the balance was $227.35.

We will have a chicken barbecue fund - raiser dinner on Sunday, May 28th. Serving times will be from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. There will be plates to go or eating at the hall. Adult tickets are $4 and child's tickets, $3, which will be available from youth members.

There will be both child and adult plates available at the door.

For this fund - raiser, each youth member's family is asked to bring five pounds of diced potatoes to the lodge hall before 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 27th. Each family also needs to bring two desserts either Saturday morning or Sunday before the barbecue to the hall. Youth members, please be present to help at this fund raiser. If we all work together, we will benefit greatly.

District II YAD is July 9th at Holland Lodge No. 80. Again, youth

promotes its youth. Daryl and Marcy have done an outstanding job in representing the Society and have spent many countless hours preparing and traveling to meet their duties as SPJST State King and Queen.

A special thank you to District II Director Willie E. Kohutek for extending the invitation and driving the convertible and to David and James Kortis for carrying the banner.

Fraternally, Claudette Reese State Youth Director —SPJSTmembers, start on your talents and entries early so the winning edge will be on your side. YAD cards are due to Youth Leader Rose Harvell on June 17th. Food recipes need to be typed on a 6 - inch x 8 - inch recipe card with the youth's name, age, and lodge. All recipes will be compiled into a cookbook which will be available at State YAD. The Lodge 24 youth voted on a choice for a District II trip in the fall of this year. The choices were between Astroworld in Houston and Six Flags in Arlington. We also voted on the choice of days -- Saturday or Sunday.

Before our meeting was adjourned, we elected officers for the 1989 - 90 youth year. Our new officers are: President Steve Bruggman, Vice President Christy Marek, Secretary Kristie Waits, Treasurer Carl Macek, Reporter Melanie Zavodny, Sergeant at - Arms Melissa Holtman.

Seaton Lodge 47 Youth Meeting Our May meeting was called to order by President Daryl Kortis. This meeting was held on Friday, May 5th at 6:30 p.m. The pledge of Allegiance was led by Heath Novosad.

Door prizes were won by Tommy Gibson and E.J. Pechal.

Birthdays in May are for Melinda and Michelle Reese, Michelle Skrabanek , Jon Gersbach, Sarah Hejl and Patsy Koslovsky, our youth leader.

We also elected new officers at this meeting. Patsy talked about our trip coming up on June 30th and July 1st.

We will go to Galveston and Houston.

We had a lot of Moms, one Dad and several visitors at our meeting. We won't have a social for May. Our youth club dues will be due at the June meeting.

Dear Brothers and Sisters, On Wednesday, May 3, 1989, the Lodge 88 Youth Club held their May meeting. It was called to order at 7:35 p.m. by President Darlene Migl.

Youth Leader Mrs. Linney led the pledge. Then we remained standing and recited the SPJST pledge and sang the SPJST Fraternity Song.

Secretary Michelle Linney read the roll call of officers. All officers were present except our reporter.

Excluding the officers, there were about 18 members present. The minutes from the last meeting were read.

Treasurer Marlene Migl then announced that we had made $47.25 during the past month for can collecting and bake sales.

Fund raising Committee Chairperson Tommie Wallace suggested we have candy sales as a fund - raising project.

Youth Leader Mrs. Linney said that YAD cards were to be returned to her by the end of June because District V YAD is going to be held July 23rd and State YAD will be August 27th. She also let youth members know that Gold C books come out August 25th, and we plan to take orders with a $1 down payment. For every book we sell at $9 each, the youth club will get to keep $4. We plan to begin our selling at Splash Day on June 4th. Youth members were also reminded to send in their order blanks to buy their Camp T - Shirts (which were designed by Lodge 88 Youth Club Member Marlene Migl)

by May 23rd. As an activity on Splash Day (June 4th), the youth voted on suggestions. We agreed to do a Beauty Contest and/or a Big Splash Contest.

DYC Marie Stayton was unable to attend this meeting, but Youth Leader Barbara Linney announced that a social to Fame City was being planned for May 20th. No details have been set, but they will be announced soon.

Everyone seemed excited because an outing to Fame City is always a lot of fun.

At this meeting, we held our election of officers and chairpersons of our youth club committees. Our new officers who will serve from May 1989 - May 1990 are: President Darlene Migl, Vice President Michelle Linney, Secretary Marlene Migl, Treasurer Angela Clayton, Sergeant - at - Arms Julie Caton, Reporter - Historian Melissa Havemann.

The new committee chairpersons are: Telephone - Tommie Wallace, Social - Cindy Groendes, Membership - Lillian Clayton, Scrapbook - Crystal Wallace.

going to be enjoying a great trip to SAN ANTONIO; (our San Antonio Express Trip fund - raising is coming to a close, and we have done very well, also our fund - raising activities were all very successful); YAD for District V will be July 23rd; District V Camp is going to be this year at Camp Val Verde from July 29th - August 1st (we will camp with District VII); State YAD will be August 27th in Temple.

So far, that's all we have planned, but stay tuned for more because the summer of 1989 is going to be very busy for us at Lodge 88.

Dear Members, Lodge 32 Youth Club held its monthly meeting on April 30th.

Carissa and Megan Waida led the pledge.

Camp forms were handed out and orders were taken for Camp T - Shirts.

Our youth leader, Frances Motal, reminded everyone to be working on YAD projects and to get health forms for camp completed.

Officers will be President Stewart Waida, Vice President Jason Motal, Secretary Carissa Waida, Treasurer Eric Motal, Reporter Jessica Bond, Historian Ashley Bond, Photographer Megan Waida, Recreation John Thomas Richardson, Publicity Kendra Richardson.

We tried to guess the number of seeds in two apples and John Thomas and Kendra Richardson were the winners both guessing 12 seeds.

After the meeting was adjourned, we played social games. Winners were John Thomas Richardson, Carissa Waida, Jessica Bond, Megan Bond and Bryan Scott Richardson.

This month's social will be going to Pandamonium at Austin on May 20th.

The project for this month was arts and craft for Mother's Day. Our Youth Leader Donna Vanecek reported YAD and Camp forms were due June 11th. The youth club members voted for either Six Flags or Astroworld. The youth members elected new officers for 1989 and 1990.

The next youth club meeting will be on June 11th at 3 p.m. at Taylor SPJST Hall.

The reunion is scheduled to conclude with a dance from 8 p.m. to 12 a.m. with music by Charles Mikeska and the "Sensations." All former and present students, teachers, school personnel, residents of the community and associates are extended an invitation.

The Reunion Committee is relying on the public to contact their family members and friends who may not otherwise know. Last year's reunion was attended by some 400 people.

Pesl Reunion The Pesl Family Reunion will be held Sunday, May 21, 1989 at the Cistern Recreational Hall, Cistern, Texas beginning at 12 noon. Each family is asked to bring a covered dish.
