A time for cleverness and a time for kindness. If we may, we would request all of our mothers and fathers to ask their youth in their homes to read at least the last part of these lines. It has a message.

In human relations cleverness might be likened to spice, not very substantial as food, but still helpful to make things interesting. If used sparingly, at the right time or occasion and, of course, without malice, there can be no objection to it. However, when it becomes one's mark of identification, then invariably it betrays lack of "depth, soundness, wisdom and morality."

Illustrating this fact is the life of the French writer Voltaire, who, while active in fighting political oppression and religious bigotry, at the same time was famed for his clever wit. The Encyclopedia Britannica, therefore, felt obligated to say about him among other things: "His characteristic is for the most part an almost superhuman cleverness rather than positive genius...His great fault was an inveterate superficialty...He was inordinately vain, totally unscrupulous in gaining money, in attacking an enemy, or in protecting himself when threatened with danger." According to the encyclopedia authority, Voltaire "was a libertine; he lied without scruple."

While there was only one Voltaire, he does have imitators among those gifted with a quick, sharp wit. Such, however, will do well to remember that there is a time and place for cleverness, but the temptation is to indulge in it constantly for the petty triumphs it gives; that is not the way to win the hearts of others. Such a one might consider the words of Cowper in his poem "Fellowship," which might be paraphrased: `The man who's clever as can be, will seldom scruple to make free with friendship finest feelings, will thrust a dagger at your breast and tell you 'twas a special jest by way of balm for healing' Clever is also what the modern youth aspires to be, especially toward his parents and others elder, thereby betraying a glaring lack of respect, and usually as little sense. To note a recent true - life incident: When a lad was asked by an elderly man: "Is that your dog?" The lad replied, "What did you think it was, a horse?" That was not the time nor the way to be clever. It showed lack of wisdom on the part of the boy. There is also this joke about the tipsy fellow pulling a chain down the road and a citizen stopped and asked him why he was pulling the chain, whereupon the happy imbiber replied: "Didsh you ever try pushin' a shaM?" Well, we can excuse this one fellow, however, it does not come out in the same manner when a helpful elderly gentleman asks a young teenager the same question upon seeing him pull a chain down a street, and wanting to be helpful receives the same answer.

Yes, there is a time for everything: A time to be clever and a time to be kind; a time to be clever and a time to be serious; a time to be clever and a time to be respectful. Wise and happy is he who knows when it is the time for each.

Certainly this will be of interest to our readers, especially of our Czech Section. Sister Liddie Pavelka of Dallas wrote us and we called Mr. Joe Houdek, Miss Agnes Houdek's brother, who gave us the following information -- Miss Agnes Houdek, who wrote in the Czech Section every week for 26 years consistently, has had a stroke recently and cannot walk nor talk. She was in the hospital and has been transferred to the Ennis Care Center. Her condition is • rather serious. What a wonderful soul! May she not suffer. We wish her the best and plan to see her, if at all possible. *** Your editor noticed that Br. Tommy Lostak has been honored for long service to our SPJST in Lodge No. 139, Danbury. This writer grew up with the Lostak family of Br. & Sis. Rudolph Lostak and children,Victor, Arthur, Tommy and Ora Faye. This fine family name was written with a (t) dipthong Lostak. Congratulations! *** With colds and flu rampant, now is when children are most at risk of mistaking flavored cough and cold medicines for treats. At least 50,000 children under age 6 overdose on cold medicine each year, according to the American Association of Poison Control Centers. Common ingredients such as antihistamines and cough suppressants can lead to hallucinations, seizures and coma if children take too much, and decongestant overdoses can elevate blood pressure. As a rule, an overdose is three to four times the recommended daily dose taken all at once. Parents who spot dilated pupils or unusual hyperactivity or drowsiness should immediately call 911 or the area poison - control center. They may be advised simply to observe a child or to give syrup of ipecac to induce vomiting. serious cases may require More hospital visits to get a stomach pumped or to control seizures. *** April 1st, Federal Express will begin a new delivery service that lets you pay $8.25 for next - day mail delivery by 3 p.m. instead of $12 for delivery by 10:30 a.m. Express Mail delivery by 3 p.m. runs $8.75, and United Parcel Service is $8.50 for delivery by noon. *** April Fool's or All - Fool's Day is the name given to the first April in allusion to the custom of playing practical jokes on friends that day or sending them on fool's errands.

The origin of the practical joke custom has been much disputed. It is in some way a relic of those once universal festivities held at the vernal equinox, which, beginning on old New Year's Day, March 25th, ended April 1st.

In India, at the feast of Hull, the last day which is March 31st, the chief amusement is the befooling of people by sending them on fruitless, foolish errands.

The making of April fools in. Great Britain was a common custom along about the start of the 18th century. In Scotland the custom was known as "hunting the gowk," the cuckoo, and April fools were "April - gowks," the cuckoo being there, as it is in most lands, a term of contempt. In France, the person befooled is known as "poison d'avril," (April fish). ***

Lunch boxes from the 1950s and 1960s are hot collectibles, appreciating about 100 percent a year. The average box brings around $75, with "Jetsons" pails fetching over $200 and "Beatles" boxes selling for up to $700.

Lodge No. 23, Moravia Dear Members: Moravia Lodge No. 23 met Tuesday, March 14th with ten members attending.

President Albert Olsovsky called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was recited and a moment of silence was observed for our departed Sister Mary Schramek and Brothers Willie Matustik, Benjamin Cervenka and Michael Chaloupka who have passed away since our last meeting.

Secretary Hattie Brossmann read the minutes of the previous meeting and the treasurer's report was read by Eddie Vrana.

Our Lodge No. 23 Hall is looking a lot better with one coat of paint and will receive another coat soon.

A discussion was held about the trees and shrubs that were planted around the lodge hall.

Since our lodge has adopted a Highway Litter Control Program one mile each way from the hall, we were

informed that we will participate in the annual Statewide Texas Trash Off Day which is April 1st. Any member who can and is willing should join the group on that day and also any other time when we pick up the litter.

Our Secretary Hattie Brossmann was presented a 50 - year membership pin by President Albert Olsovsky.

The monthly meeting for Lodge 24 was held March 7th at 7:30 p.m. Many of our members were in attendance at this meeting. Thank you to all who attended and those of you who were unable to attend this month, please join us in the future. We need you.

On the sick list this month are Dorothy Morris and Edwin Milian.

We wish these two fine people a quick recovery.

Sympathy is extended to the family of Franklin Martinec who died in February. He was a fine gentleman and will be missed by many in our community. Our sympathy to all his family and friends.

Nick Morris resigned as vice president and board member of our lodge due to the illness of his wife.

Thank you, Mr. Morris, for all your work and interest in our lodge. Wilbert Mikeska was elected the new vice president. Thank you, Wilbert, for taking this position.

A benefit dance, barbecue, and auction was held Sunday, March 5th, for Monica Savoie. This event was a great success. Even with the extremely cold weather, our community came out and supported this worthy cause.

Thank you to all of you who attended this benefit and made a contribution.

For little Monica, we wish a very speedy recovery.

Domino Tournament time is here.

The straight domino playoffs were held Friday, March 10th. The winners were Johnny Chervenka and Billy Smetanka, first place winners; and Larry Coots and Joe Baker, second place; these men will represent our lodge at the State Straight Domino Tournament to be held March 25 at Linden Hall in Elm Mott.

We have a new sales representative at Lodge 24; Arleen Tschoerner was appointed to be a sales representative for our lodge.

Our next meeting will be Tuesday, April 4th at 7:30 p.m. Come out and join us.

Well, it looks as if spring is with us.

It feels so good to be able to go out and work and plant in the garden and yard.

Our monthly meeting was held March 9, 1989 and was called to order

by President James Whitfill.

Minutes were read and approved.

All reports were given by the different committees.

Carl Thadford is on the sick list. He is in the Baylor Medical in Dallas at the Johnson Building for those who would like to send a get well card.

New members are David Louie, Christi and Sidney Evans.

We have a number of 50 - year members who will be receiving pins at one of our upcoming meetings. A date will be announced so all members can be present. Those receiving 50 - year pins will be Janet Doris Adams, Joe G. Haskovec, John F. Jurcik, Jerry Kohn, Olga B. Pechak and Rosa Lee Sheliga.

The Dallas-Ennis Fraternal Council is selling tickets to benefit the Battleship Texas Restoration, the Children's Medical Center, and the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas (CEFT) Fund. Drawing to be held on June 14th at SPJST Lodge No. 84, Dallas. Anyone interested in purchasing tickets, please contact Linda Trojacek; tickets are $1 per ticket or 6 for $5.

The lodge will need a lot of help for that weekend. Also, we need someone to take charge of planning the float for the Polka Festival Parade. If you are needing information about our festival, please contact Kay Lynn Kovar.

Lodge 25 gave a donation of $100 to the Ennis High School Band Adopt - a - Student Program which is being held at the present time to help finance the band to a trip to Orlando, Florida to participate in the Disney World Parade in May. The donation was most appreciated.

Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28, East Bernard Dear Members: Lodge Karel Jonas will hold its April monthly meeting on the first Sunday, the 2nd, at 2 p.m., in the lodge hall.

The agenda will have the standard reports and items needing immediate attention with the Fraternal Activities Coordinator Officer Brother A.J. "Tony" Kelner covering information on tournaments and other fraternal activities. Also on the agenda will be the presentation of 50 - year membership pins to members whose anniversary date has passed and those members whose anniversary date is in the very near future. The FAC advised that he is in contact with the respective recipient members and requested the ceremony be held close to the end of the meeting. This is providing these members will be present at the meeting. A guest from headquarters is due to be present, providing weather will permit travel. Our last two monthly meetings were hampered by very cold weather which made travel very hard.

A luncheon with the usual fraternal gathering is scheduled after the business meeting.

The FAC is planning to get things started with some of the tournament games providing enough members are present to take part and start learning.

On March 5th, the monthly meeting was held on one of the coldest days for this month in a very long time. The larger than required quorum was made up of hardy souls braving the second "Alaskan Express" of the season. The regular reports were given and were accepted on their own merit. The Audit Committee report was given because it could not be held up another month. It showed the lodge to be "Okay" in the money department.

Even though there was an extreme chill in the air, a table was moved close to the heater and the luncheon along with conversation went off on schedule. Everyone who stayed seemed to enjoy themselves.

Changing the subject to another item of importance to many was the "Czech National Cemetery Association" meeting of March 12th.

In its first semi - annual meeting under the new administration and for 1989, the association had a good day to hold its meeting in the home of Lodge Karel Jonas. A good quorum was present at 2 p.m. with many having a long way to travel. All minutes and reports were accepted as given with a special point being made that the treasurer's books were open to anyone who wished to check them. All officers were present with the exception of one. Saxton E.A. Srubar reported that two persons were laid to rest since the re - organization.

With this, he gave a progress report on the new fence across the front of the cemetery. A short section on the northern end of the fence is not complete because fill dirt was needed in a low spot of the northwest corner of the cemetery; until the fill dirt settles whereby posts can be properly set, this short section will have to stay open. There were five (5) motions made with only one being tabled and others passing. It was announced, that with a new letterhead in place, forms are now available for titles to plots and for transferring plot ownership. These may be obtained from the association secretary - treasurer, Mrs. Annie M. Srubar, Route 1, fox 174 - A, East Bernard, Texas 77435.

Now, this writer is asking the membership for help. The association

needs to get in contact with the family of ELY and FRANCES LADEWIG. ELY passed away March 14, 1954 three months and some days short of his 83rd birthday. He was laid to rest by the Urbish F.H. FRANCES passed away November 2, 1973 at the age of 86 (approximately). Information on her was very sketchy. If someone knows of anyone related to these two people PLEASE write the secretary treasurer at the above address. If you have an address include it also for it would be most helpful and would be greatly appreciated.

Lodge No. 35, Elk The March meeting was called to order March 12, 1989 by our President Henry Breitkreutz at 3 p.m. Flag Bearer Jason Pipes led the members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Youth Club had an Easter egg hunt for the smaller children after the meeting. Next month there will be a kite - flying contest with prizes to be given away.

March birthdays celebrated were Sisters Ruby Pavelka, Dawn Pavelka, Sheena Pavelka and Randice Pavelka who blew out the birthday candles.

A motion was made and approved to provide a benefit dance for the Arthritis Foundation on April 2, 1989, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with music by the Midnight Highway Band.

Cleanup day will take place on April 30th. We are hoping to see everyone there. More on that later.

Adult door prize was won by Helen Pospisil and youth prize was won by Jason Pipes.

There being no further business we adjourned to a brisket and sausage dinner.

Lodge No. 38, Kovar There will be a dinner, dance and country auction at the SPJST Lodge No. 38 Hall in Kovar, Texas Sunday, April 9th.

The festivities will begin with cafeteria - style fried chicken - stew (with all the trimmings) dinner at 12:00 noon. Plates to go will also be available and food to be sold as long as it lasts; adults, $3.50 and children under 12, $2.00 At 1:30 p.m. an auction will take place and from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., we will also have a dance with music by Leroy Matocha Band. Everyone is invited!

Lodge No. 47, Seaton will host its local lodge playoffs for "42" on Friday, March 31, 1989. Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. and play will begin promptly at 7 p.m. If you have not yet registered to play, don't worry, we'll sign you up when you get there. There is a registration fee of $5 and we ask that all participants and observers bring a covered dish of anything that you like. We will all share and enjoy it at the break.

Lodge No. 66, Waco The,meeting was called to order at 2:30 p.m. by President Mary Alice Langlotz.

The flags were presented by Alicia Neslony and Ashley Locke. The Pledge and Lodge Motto were led by Ashley Locke.

All the officers were present. We had one visitor, Justin Rossi.

Secretary Bonnie Pruitt read the minutes of our previous meeting and they were approved. She also read the rules for the quilt contest which will be held at our District III meeting at Lodge 6, Cottonwood. There will also be a horseshoe pitching contest.

Sister Jeanette Smith read the minutes of the board meeting and they were approved. She also read a thank you note from Sister Bonnie Pruitt.

Entertainment Committee report, given by Sister Gloria Locke, was that members are to bring sandwiches to the April 9th meeting and the committee will provide chips and doughnuts.

Get well cards were sent to Elsie Truman and Hilma Macha. Baby congratulations were sent to Mr. and Mrs. John Whiteside and Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Nors.

Sister Jeanette Smith reported on the result of the Taroky Tournament, which was held at Seaton Lodge No. 47 (Star Hall). Our Lodge No. 66 winners were: 1st - Albert Jaska, 2nd Dorothy Warren, 3rd - Bill Warren.

Results of our local Straight Domino Tournament were given: 1st place Bonnie Pruitt and George Pauling, 2nd - Otis Ceska and Weldon Galler.

Youth Leader Gladys Yates reported there were 20 members present at the youth meeting and one new member.

She has given the youth their District YAD cards. They will have a Bike and Walk - a - Thon, they will also make a donation to the Easter Seals.

After the meeting the youth had an Easter egg hunt and a visit from the Easter Bunny, which everyone enjoyed.

Sister Libbie Parma reported for the Trust Fund; the fund had received a donation in memory of Jimmy Langlotz from Arthur and Mary Alice Langlotz.

New members accepted into our lodge were Kara M. Holy, Holli D. Leka, and James D. Leka. Clarence E. Simcik, Jr. transferred to Lodge 66 from Lodge 20. Welcome to all!

There were eleven members of Lodge 66 who attended the Supreme Lodge Workshop hosted by Lodge 47, Seaton on February 25th which was very informative. We thank the Supreme Lodge and Lodge 47, Seaton for their hospitality and making this even possible.

Brother Johnnie Gaidusek presented the 50 - year membership pins to Robert Cervenka, Irene Dreyer, John Muenich, Irene Reznicek, Bobbie McCown and Lillie Mae Nors.

Our next meeting date has been changed to Sunday, April 9th at 2:30 p.m. Please mark your calendar so you can attend the District III meeting on April 16th which will be at Lodge 6, Cottonwood.

Our door prize winner was Brother Alvin Reznicek.

The beer for our meeting was furnished by Brother Bennie and Sister Darlene Engelke in honor of the 50 year membership pin recipients.

SPJST Lodge No. 87 held their regular meeting Friday evening, March 10th at 7 p.m. with President Ladis Navratil presiding.

The meeting was called to order, Flag Bearer Ed Reisner led the lodge in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. A silent tribute was paid to deceased members Donna Joan Harding and Cecil L. Massey.

Dorothy Chervenka read the minutes of the previous meeting which were approved as read.

Mary Ann Zatopek gave her report.

New member Lawrence Ray Kneblik was accepted into our lodge. A warm welcome is extended to him.

John Coufal was reported to be on the sick list. Get well wishes are extended to him and all who are convalescing.

The following fifty - year members will be honored at a May 12th meeting at the lodge hall on Middle Road in Temple at 6:30 p.m. They are: Betty Jane Engbrock, Viola Evelyn Jezek, William J. Matush, Lillie Emma McDonald, Georgia Ann Navratil, Barney T. Sissom and Edwin J. Tyroch.

6/VESTNIK—Wednesday, March 29, 1989

Lodge No. 88, Houston News I'm going to start my letter this morning with some happy and joyous events that took place in our area.

On February 18, 1989 Mr. and Mrs. Bill Malak became grandparents for the first time. Michelle Lee was born to their only daughter, Arlene, weighing 4 pounds and 7 ounces.

On February 19, 1989 Bobby and April Miksch became parents to a little black - headed girl, Ashley Nicole. She weighed 8 pounds and 9 ounces. Della Miksch told me that Ashley was only 191/2 inches long and "chubby." She also informed me that the baby is a fifth generation. They will have a picture made for the Vestnik. The grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Robert Miksch and great - grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Joe Miksch.

On March 12, 1989 Christopher Vincent Roznovsky was born to Vincent and Robin Roznovsky. He weighed 8 pounds and one ounce and gave Louis and Elsie Roznovsky, the name of grandparents, their first.

Congratulations from all of us at Lodge 88 to these nice families, and we wish you all the best of luck.

The District V meeting at Pasadena Lodge No. 172 was well attended, we were so well received. President Tillie Helmcamp prepared a beautiful program. Before noon Lodge 88 Choral Group entertained us while we ate a delicious meal. The meeting convened at 2 p.m. and all went like clockwork. We adjourned only ten minutes later than was planned. The memorial service was so beautiful with Helen Hegwood singing "Softly and Tenderly," accompanied by Naomi Spencer.

Our "Fraternalist of the Year" Tim Kostom was honored. again, and his wife, Rosalee, was presented with a dozen red roses for having a great part in Tim's accomplishments.

A group from Lodge 88 went to Las Vegas a few weeks ago. Royal and Laura Bell Warnasch, Steve and Estelle Kelly, Joe and Della Miksch.

They reported what a fine trip they had, but, for some reason, Joe Miksch went back a week later; all I can figure out is that he went back to pick up the money he left there on the first trip.

Joe is back home now with a happy expression on his face. Also on March 13th, guess who went to Las Vegas?

Frances Olexa and her friend, Lillie Boone. They stayed five days and had a very enjoyable time.

Harley Cox handed me a written report at the monthly meeting on March 13th for the Entertainment Committee. He is thanking all his supervisors, Bennie Kocich, Milert Antrich and Gene Barcak and, of course, praised the rest of his committee for helping with all the dances.

Most of the dances are well attended, and my personal observation tells me that the people who attend our dances are fine, r:spectable people.

When the environment is pleasant, then everyone has a good time.

Everyone is well received by the entertainment group and those who assist. Saturday night, March 18th, Henry Kite was in charge with his wife, Adella, Rosalee and Tim Kostom, Ed and Ellen Miculka.

There are some changes in the committee officers: Secretary -- Era Richards Publicity -- Irene and Ernest Lewis, Kathy Trefell.

Texas Dancetime Band April 8 -- Al Pierson Big Band, and the name of that famous band has been changed to GUY LOMBARDO'S ROYAL CANADIANS. Don't miss this dance!

Minutes Of SPJST Lodge No. 88, Mauston Meeting March 13, 1989 February was such a short month I failed to send in the minutes, but my little friend, Pearl Hanka, took care of me just as she promised when I accepted this office. Should I not have time to send in the minutes, she would cover for me in her articles. You did that, and I do thank you. Maybe nobody noticed except the few who asked me about it this last month. I promise to try to timely perform my duties, but should I slip once in awhile, just keep on writing, Pearl. You are doing a fantastic job covering the activities.

President Jerry Ermis called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance. The names of deceased members, Ludwig A. Mikes, Peggy L. Reibenstein, Vlasta Zobal, Ladike S. Kubicek and Wilbert (Buddy) Henske, were read and the members stood for a moment of silence.

We had one important guest from the Supreme Lodge, State Youth Director Claudette Reese, who came down to do the honors for our very own Marlene Migl who won the T Shirt Contest. Lodge 88 has won this in two consecutive years and, would you believe, Darlene Migl preceded her twin sister for this honor in 1988.

Congratulations to both of you, and a special recognition is also given to parents, Leroy and Margaret Migl, grandmother Annie Vala and Aunt Frances Vala, who have always supported them in their endeavors.

The Migl family celebrated with other members by sharing a delicious cake after the meeting.

The normal reports were given with a few exceptions like that of Edward Miculka who had a very interesting report for the Men's Club. The age of 42 members vary from 50 to 80, and all ages combined total 2,818 years of experience. It's no wonder these men do so much and enjoy it. Just for your information, Norman East is the youngest and Tom Jecmenek is the oldest. I didn't tell a secret in case either one of you is offended...Ed spilled this out in front of everybody.

Another interesting report from Fraternal Activities Coordinator Homer Alexander revealed that since the project of collecting eye glasses began in August of 1986, a total of 1,380 had been collected, having almost reached our goal of 1,500. The total monetary value of these eye glasses is estimated at $138,000. We have always known the gentle and benevolent nature of Homer, but this was underestimated. He has worked hard and enjoyed this assignment. It really does take a certain character to be good at this. All of this brings me back to the day of the Seaton Seminar.

You know, I rode up with Homer, his Tillie ita, lovely wife, and

Helmcamp. He did not mention a word of his being on the program, and I was impressed. I really was, and Homer, if I had known I was being driven to Seaton by a celebrity, I swear I wouldn't have had you running around McDonald's getting me a sausage and biscuit. Thanks! It was a really good day, except for the absence of Brother Tim Kostom, the Fraternalist of the Year, who was supposed to be receiving the plaque in Seaton, but was unable to attend because of a slight fever. Nonetheless, District V Director Louis Hanus presented it to Tim at the District V meeting in Pasadena, and more members from our lodge were present to enjoy this honor with him.

While we are on the subject of the District V meeting, it was a good meeting and I am sorry we didn't get to stay long enough to receive a door prize. Jack says he never wins and he doesn't often, so I never told him.

Won't he be surprised when he reads this! What I was about to say before the door prize desertation, was that the memorial service was beautifully done in song by Helen Hegwood, accompanied by pianist Naomi Spencer. These two ladies really are a pair -- both possess God - given talents so humbly. Remind us to bring Kleenex next time -- it is embarrassing to have to wipe your eyes and nose on your sleeve or shirt.

Some interesting activities waiting to happen: Plans are finished for the new building and the Building Committee remains busy and going forward.

Next, we are looking forward to the presentation of a Czech play on April 16th right here at the lodge entitled "A v torn zamku byla panna," which when translated to English is In the Castle was a Virgin." Lunch will be served starting at 11:30 a.m. The play starts at 2 p.m., so all of you out - of towners plan on coming for a fun filled Sunday. Even if you don't speak Czech, you will be able to figure out what's going on. The actors are superb and there is no place else you can spend such a pleasant day for so little money. Come out and join us.

There were 120 members in attendance. Our anniversary celebrants were A.J. and Marie Stayton, Daniel and Mona Anders and Milert and Evelyn Antrich. Door prize winners were Helen Hegwood, Shirley Stonaker, Stacie Kocich, Thomas Jecmenek and Mary Kosut, after which the meeting adjourned.

Lodge No. 92, Ft. Worth Dear Members and Friends: It was some surprise that we had two bad cold fronts so close together. Both of them were bad but this time it caught some of us out of town playing in the tournament at Seaton Lodge No. 47, so we had to drive on icy roads from near Hillsboro to Fort Worth, Texas. I wouldn't have believed that the highway speed would be only 10 to 20 miles an hour, some times it was very slow to move. We were at the Annual Tarok Tournament and had a great time with all our good fraternal members. The games went very smoothly and Lodge 92 should be proud because so many were in the games. There were many in the semi finals and, in the final, we were also represented. Our Brother Kenneth Reed placed third and received a trophy and some money. It was a wonderful day playing Taroky and all

members were so nice to each other.

The ladies at Lodge 47 are to be congratulated for the good dinner and also the early morning coffee and kolace. We need to give many thanks to our Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar who had everything going so orderly. We also congratulate all the winners and hope that the 5th tournament will even be better. The hall was kept warm and the warm spirits among each other made this a day to remember for a long time. I am sure there will be more in the Vestnik and also pictures.

The March meeting was well attended which makes the officers feel great to be looking at a large crowd in front of them and not just a few. Our Brother Joe and Sister Nancy Paprskar come from Dallas to attend the meetings and are always pleasant to be with. The Youth Club led us in the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Then to change the order of business, our youth leader gave his report first; the youth members were going to play putt-putt golf. There were several who went, also Gordon Hubenak announced that the Easter egg hunt would be March 15th about 3 p.m. We hope the weather will let the children hunt outside which is more fun.

After the youth leader's report, the regular order of business started.

Christine Zich, our secretary, does a good job getting the minutes so well.

The lodge and I are proud of her. She has been lodge secretary for several years. Christine, you are doing good, so keep it up.

Sister Rose Jaworski gives a good report as treasurer so we know how much money we have in the lodge.

Even Evelyn Spacek is doing a wonderful job collecting local lodge dues. She sends out notices and, if you do not pay lodge dues, you miss out on a lot of nice things that our lodge offers. Lodge 92 really does many things for the good of its members.

That is a small amount of dues to pay for the benefits that the lodge offers.

Also some of our young members should attend the meetings because you will be taking over managing this organization.

Martha Durham, the sunshine person, keeps busy sending out birthday cards to members over 65 years of age, to the sick and to the families of our deceased members.

This month 19 cards were sent to members. Our lodge wants the members to know that even if you are older and far away, we still remember all of you.

Our trustees reported that bids are being taken on a new roof. It will be a new type roof instead of just tar paper and gravel. It is a product of sheets of neoprine material and is welded together and it will stretch with heat and cold and not bubble up as the tar and gravel does. This is going to be rather expensive but, in any building there need to be two items that need to be good, those are a good foundation and a roof that won't leak when it rains. The cost of this type of roof is approximately $12,000 to $18,000.

Our Hall Managers Joyce and Frankie Tesar really have the dance floor shining like a silver dollar and it is so nice to dance on the slick floor.

We thank Kenneth and Mary Ann Krivanek for having the food after the meeting which was enjoyed. As always, special thanks to all the ladies who bring tasty pastries.

Little Brandy Kubala won the reserve champion short horn. Brandy is 12 years young and has been grooming cattle for showing for some time. Her home is in Pilot Point, Texas and she is the daughter of Brother Larry Kubala; her grandparents are our Lodge 92 President Albert Kubala and his wife, Helen. Brandy, we all are very proud of you and wish you lots of good luck in the future.

Our member, Jerry Kubala, has a different view on sports. He went to Sweetwater, Texas for the annual rattlesnake hunt. He caught 13 snakes and claims that not once was he bitten, but he said, "If you are afraid of snakes, don't go." I hope he got rid of the snakes before he came to the meeting.

Please do not forget about the "KASH FOR KIDS" Dance on April 8th. Jodie Mikula's band will play for your enjoyment. There are other dances scheduled, so look in the calendar of the Vestnik. Good health and I hope to see many of you at our meetings or dances.

The food line started forming early and plates were heaped high with chicken, beef and chicken barbecue, beans, potato salad, slaw and other trimmings and the dessert table laden with kolache, cakes, pies and tea rings was still ahead.

Ten door prizes of $10 each and an SPJST mug were given away during the afternoon.

The highlight of the afternoon came when Past Lodge 139 Secretary Brother Tommie Lostak was honored for his many years of devoted service to the lodge. In December, Tommie resigned as secretary, a position he had held for 37 years. He has represented Lodge 139 as an elected delegate at every convention since 1960 with the exception of the 1988 convention which he was unable to attend because of illness in his family; not only did he serve the lodge well, he held the position of District V treasurer for 31 years. He resigned that office in 1987.

Tommie also served efficiently on the SPJST Publication Committee (representing District V) during 1980 1984; a substitute on the same committee from 1984 - 1988; and was elected to serve on the Publication Committee in 1988 (serving effective year beginning January 1, 1989).

As tokens of appreciation for his devotion to our lodge, Tommie was presented with a plaque commemorating his years of faithful service, an SPJST pin, an SPJST windbreaker jacket, and a set of SPJST dominoes by Lodge 139 President Vincent Hechler.

The lodge officers were well pleased with the turnout of the barbecue almost 300 plates were served.

Lodge No. 155, Austin Reports The February meeting had to be canceled due to freezing weather.

A regular meeting was held March 5, 1989 at the home of Georgia Mae and Louis Robertson, Sunday at 2:30 p.m.

Fourteen members were present.

All officers were present as follows: President Clarence Boriski, Vice President Laverne Hejl, Secretary Raymond Prasatik, Treasurer John B. Hejl and Reporter Alice Prasatik.

President Brother Boriski called the meeting to order. Brother John Hejl recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Minutes of our previous meeting were read and approved.

President Boriski introduced a new member for our lodge, Mrs. Patricia A. Marek of 12802 Lamplight Village Avenue. Members welcomed her with great applause but promised to postpone any unusual invitation ceremonies.

Communications read by Raymond Prasatik were a letter from Supreme Lodge Sales Department listing dates and places of various seminars, letter from Supreme Lodge in reference to IRS Forms 990 and 990T, thank you letters for donations from Center For Battered Women, Salvation Army, S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. I in Taylor and Austin State School. An appropriate card of thanks was read by John Hejl from Alice Prasatik for the lovely gift and card received during her hospital stay and convalescence at home due to a knee fracture and cardiac complication in early January.

Our March 7th meeting was called to order by President Louis Grochoske with all officers present.

The Pledge of Allegiance to the flag was recited and a moment of silence was held for departed members of our Society.

Minutes read by Secretary Julia Dueser were approved as read. The other officers also gave their reports.

Treasurer Mydell Grochoske urged all sales representatives to attend all sales representatives' meetings and explained why it is so important for them to attend.

Secretary Julia Dueser, President Louis Grochoske and Treasurer Mydell Grochoske attended the Lodge Officers' Workshop at Lodge No. 47 at Seaton on February 25th. All three officers gave good reports and how well organized and informative it was.

Vice President Ernest Kelly read all the activities we can take part in as our fraternal activities.

Sunshine Committee reported, in the hospital and having surgery were: Brothers Albert Sulak and Gordon Cox and Sisters Marilyn Seely and Donna Looney. Ernie Dueser had a bad case of the flu, also Mydell Grochoske had been sick but is feeling better now. We wish all of you a speedy recovery.

Brother Charles Schneider's brother had passed away and also Billy Cunniff's brother passed away. We express our sincere sympathy to both of these families and may their loved ones rest in peace.

Congratulations are in order to Joe Hurtik, Sr. who received his 50 - year membership pin at our March meeting.

There was a nice surprise for him with a beautiful cake and a dinner.

We were glad to welcome new members, Alice Marie Sander and Blake Hurtik, a junior, and added policy for Joseph Hurtik, Jr. The District III spring meeting will be held at Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood on Sunday, April 16th. Let us make a special effort to attend because these meetings are important and very enjoyable.

The next regular meeting will be April 4th at 7:30 p.m. and trustee meeting at 6:30 p.m.

Wednesday, March 29, 1989—VESTNIK/9 Lambert's brother and John's cousin; the loss will be felt by the Pustejovsky families and SPJST. A motion to sponsor a co - ed softball team again this year was passed, and I am told that they have already won the first game so they are off to a great start.

Smoke eaters were discussed, but this was tabled at this time because of the expense.

It was decided to have a social night on Friday night, March 31st for dominoes and cards or just getting acquainted; more will be discussed at the next meeting. That will be on Sunday, April 9th at 5:30 p.m. If you like the idea of a Friday night social, call one of the officers or come to the next meeting. Let's discuss and decide, together, what's best for the lodge. It's time to decide or to find out how many high school or college graduates the lodge has this year so the lodge can give them their gifts.

Gracie and I would like to send special wishes to our mothers; Gracie's mother, Winnie Elledge, was 90 years old in February and lives in a nursing home in Ennis; and my mother, Jennie Kneschk, was 90 in March and lives in an apartment near Burleson. Both are in good health at this time.

There is one thing you can say about growing older, because middle age is when you know all the answers and no one is asking you any questions, and the hardest decision in life is when to start middle age. Until next time, keep smiling!

Our meeting was called to order by President Dwight Doeppenschmidt at the Baravian Village on March 16th at 8 p.m.

Minutes of the January meeting were approved as read.

Roll call of officers showed 2nd Vice President Charles Watt absent.

Mr. Robert Popp II, Michelle and Robert Popp III (formerly of Lodge 133, San Antonio) transferred to our lodge. We are happy to have them join our group. Mrs. Jarolyn Popp is an SPJST insurance sales representative.

Youth Leader Theresa Haag reported the youth had been busy working on their project for Easter.

Our next meeting will be on June 1st at the Bavarian Village. At that time, we hope to plan our work schedule for the Bavarian Polka Fest to be held June 10th, 11th and 12th where we will be selling food.

Lodge No. 88, Houston Birthday Club The Birthday Club Sisters met for their regular monthly meeting at 11:15 a.m. on March 8, 1989 in the Lodge 88 dining room.

President Kathy Trefell opened the meeting with a very interesting reading entitled "Self Motivation," she also recalled some things that happened to her when she was quite young, which made all of us think about incidents that happened to us when we were children.

President Kathy called the roll, and we had a good attendance.

Secretary Rosalee Kostom read the minutes of our previous meeting which were approved as read, and she also read correspondence from Arnold Spencer and Lolean Peeples. Lolean has been a member but dropped out when her husband became ill. She has rejoined us now after her husband passed away and, really, she needed to do that so she could be with her close friends again.

Sunshine Lady Mary Kosut gave her card report. Mary keeps in contact with our members and we all appreciate it.

Our Treasurer Lillie Spies is always "on the ball" with her finances. She gave a good report as always. Our sisters are very dedicated -- bake and sew to put items on the drawing table.

The following sisters donated extra money to our club: Tillie Bily -- $20 Frances Dvorak -- $5 Evelyn Mikolas -- $5 Laura Bell Warnasch -- $5 Thanks so very much for these extra contributions. It was discussed in our meeting to have a special treat for only our Birthday Club members. Lillian Finn made a motion, seconded by Edna Forelich to go to Wyatt's Cafeteria on Wednesday, March 29th.

Be there by 10:30 a.m. and get served by 11 a.m. The Telephone Committee was asked to call all the members.

Josephine Buri, who has had surgery sometime ago, thanked everyone who remembered her in one way or another. We were so glad to see you back in circulation; we missed you, Jo! Others on the sick list are Alma McNaspy (who had eye surgery), Anna Hoffman, Willie Mae Stang and Birdie Pech. We hope to see all of you back in our club meetings.

Our drawing for Splash Day in June is shaping up. A motion was made by Rita Alexander, seconded by Marie Pokluda,to give away money for this.

Friendship Club, Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting on March 1st was called to order by President Jo Prochaska.

The pledge to our flag was recited by the 27 members present. We still had members out sick and hope all are better by now. Everyone was glad to see Mary Dunlap walk in. She had been to the hospital for a treatment and then came with Billie Starr. We're glad to see her looking more like Mary.

She has been through a lot, and she feels like our prayers have helped.

Elma Anderson's daughter was very ill and we missed her. Our prayers are with her, also.

Merel Kovar read her minutes of the previous meeting and was approved.

Treasurer Lydia Alholm's report was also approved.

We learned Ann Sustala was taking therapy and hope she is doing better.

Our next meeting on April 5th will be at the Spaghetti Warehouse, 600 Exchange Avenue. We are asked to be there by 11 a.m. If anyone needs transportation, meet at the club at 10:30 a.m.

Anna Johnson flew to St. Louis to see her nephew ordained as a deacon in the Catholic church. She also enjoyed seeing friends and relatives from California and around. She then flew on to New Orleans to visit all her relatives and took in the Mardi Gras.

We're glad she arrived home safely.

Roy and Lydia Alholm left on March 7th for a few days at Las Vegas, Nevada. Hope they had good luck.

Happy Birthday went to Clem Oujesky, Monte North, Carrie Milan, Maria Prill and Jo Prochaska. Hope you all have many more.

Czech Play At Lodge 33, Houston The Czech players of Hlahol Dramatic Club of Lodge 88, Houston are working very hard to put on a good performance of the comedy "A v torn zamku byla panna" ("And in that Castle was a Virgin"). Director Tomas Krejci has cast the roles very well, it's almost as if they were written especially for the participating actors.

The play centers around the people who live on the estate of Count Ignac Pumprnikel z Nemanic, ably portrayed

by Jerry Persan. The Count (or Hrabe in Czech) lives in a world of nostalgia and fantasy, believing that he still retains his status of nobility when, in fact, he is virtually penniless and his castle and estate are in real need of repair. To make things worse, his son, Polydor, played by Ted LaPesh, does not particularily care for the preservation of his noble status, all he wants to do is be an artist -- painter.

The chief servant, Trumbus Fric, played by Jan Schroif, tries to humor the Count by trying to make him think that things are still as they were before the European nobility lost their power and prestige after World War I. Trumbus gets so wrapped up in his efforts that he begins to believe them.

For example, he starts to go to the stable to unhitch the horses from the Count's carriage before he realizes that there are no horses on the estate; they were sold to pay off some of the Count's old debts. In order to get some income into the estate, Trumbus tries to turn the castle into a tourist attraction, complete with a make shift torture chamber.

A scheduled wedding between Count Rada Zimostraz, played by Karel Sicner, and Rozkosna Madla, played by Zdena Pomeroy, falls apart when , Madla disappears and gets Trumbus to hide her in the torture chamber. When Madla comes out of hiding wearing men's clothes, she presents herself as Trumbus' daughter.

Things get complicated when

Trumbus' real daughter, Lizinka, played by Vera Cotrino, shows up.

Ted LaPesh, as Polydor, performs an excellent soliloquy as he tries to decide how to commit suicide. Each time he decides on how to do it, he finds a more compelling reason for not doing it. He finally falls in love with Trumbus' daughter, Lizinka.

Trumbus sends Kamil Benda, played

by Peter Link, to the railroad station to try to get tourists to visit the castle.

Kamil entices Countess Adelaida von Womatschek, ably played by Helen Kubicek, and her son, Egon, played by Jannette Cotrino, to come to the castle. Adelaida is looking for a rich man, preferably of noble birth, to become her new husband. Of course, Count Pumprnikel sounds like he would fit the bill.

A very bright personality among the actors is teenager Jannette Cotrino.

Jannette does an excellent job in portraying Egon. Her command of the Czech language is something worth seeing and hearing.

All of these situations lead up to complicated complications which should prove to be very entertaining to all who come to see the play.

Thank You Lodge No. 88, Houston Thanks to members of Lodge No. 88 for your most generous offering of used warm clothing for the Covenant House Houston.

After a recent cold snap that plummeted temperatures to the midtwenties in the Houston area, a need still existed for warm clothing but when temperatures started to climb into the low eighties who would have thought that winter would be back so soon.

Well, those far - sighted lodge members who know Texas weather so well decided that in order to be prepared for the cold, again, even though spring weather started out in the seventies, we had better be prepared.

What do you think happened? The second day of spring brought temperatures back into the lower and mid - forties and warm clothing, once again, headed the list of priorities.

Those members who did bring warm clothing for your Fraternal Activities Coordinator (FAC) to distribute to the Covenant were definitely FSLM. The Czechoslovak Foreign Institute (Ceskoslovensky ustav zahranici) has just announced that summer classes for 20 students of the Czech language will be conducted by the Philosophical Faculty at Charles University, Prague, Czechoslovakia during the summer period July 4-28, 1989.

The cost of this course will be $150 to $200 (U.S.) •pending on the extent of the program now being developed by the Czechoslovak Foreign Institute and the University. \'e expect to have final word on this by May 1st.

All other costs -- meals, lodging in the dormitory, after class visits in and around Prague, weekend excursions of historic and interesting sights in Czechoslovakia plus concerts and theatre performances will be covered by the institute. Included also are all group travel expenses within Czechoslovakia.

Each student must pay for his or her own travel expenses from home in the USA to Prague and return, plus cost of Czechoslovakia visa. More information on the cost of a group flight leaving the U.S. on July 3rd, arriving in Prague on July 4th and returning on July 28th will be available in a later bulletin.

Prerequisites: Two years of study in the Czech language at any U.S. college or university or school of continuing education. As all classes and lectures are conducted in the Czech language, applicants should have sufficient language proficiency to understand the instructor and participate in classroom work. Preference will be given to students of Czech ancestry.

Heritage Society News

The Harris County Chapter of the Czech Heritage Society of Texas will hold its next meeting at 2 p.m. at SPJST Lodge Rozkvet No. 172, 3609 Preston, Pasadena, Texas on Sunday, April 9, 1989. The meeting will mark the fourth anniversary of the chapter.

In its four years of existence, it has grown from a group of less than 20 members to its present membership of 126.

Activities will get underway around 1 p.m. with an informal fellowship hour. Members and guests are encouraged to bring and show off their family histories and other Czech memorabilia. There will be ample opportunity to socialize and talk about the displayed material.

The business meeting, which is considered the annual 1989 meeting, will start promptly at 2 p.m. The agenda for the afternoon will include the election of officers for the ensuing year and very brief reports by the officers, as well as plans for future activities. The program for the afternoon, following the business portion of the meeting, will be under the direction of W . J. "Bill" Malina of Houston, who will discuss the legends, traditions and history of the origins of Slavic people, their migration to and settlement of central Europe, especially Czechoslovakia.

Everyone interested in Czech culture, tradition, history or Czech family genealogy is encouraged to come to the meeting. Visitors are always welcome. Antonio Czech Choral Club Sponsors Activities San

The San Antonio Czech Choral Club is sponsoring an event on Sunday, April 9, 1989 at Martinez Hall, 7791 St. Hedwig Road at FM 1516 in San Antonio, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.

There will be plenty of good food (kolaches, sausage - on - a - stick, etc.) plus refreshments; also attendance prizes will be given away, and a dance to the music of Eddie Ray and The Polka Boys from Taylor who play best in oldtime, modern and country western music.

From The State Youth Director April Vestnik Project JOHN JAROSLA V SHILLER, M.D. In 1903 when John J. Shiller, M.D., opened his first office in Praha, Texas, an office visit cost $1; a house call was $2. When he closed his practice in Rowena 56 years later, the price of an office visit had skyrocketed, and doctors no longer made house calls.

The son of immigrant parents, John Jaroslav Shiller was born on a farm near Rice's Crossing in Williamson County, January 13, 1877. John began his studies in a one - room rural schoolhouse. He progressed to business college and prep schools in Austin before entering the University of Texas Medical Department in Galveston. After the school was washed away in the hurricane of 1900, he transferred to Tulane Medical School in New Orleans where he received his degree in 1903.

During his first year of practice in Praha in southern Fayette County, Dr. Shiller charged patients a total of $180. He managed to collect only about half of that, including some corn for his horse and some farm produce -- pigs, chickens, eggs -- to help feed his family.

After seven years in Moravia, Texas, and a brief time in Victoria, Shiller and his wife, Annie Louise, moved to the thriving west Texas Czech community of Rowena. There he set up an office, opened a pharmacy which he later sold to his brother and remained an active citizen until shortly before his death in 1975.

Soon after his retirement, Dr. Shiller recalled those early days in Rowena.

Dear Readers, The Youth Club meeting was held on March 12th with a fair attendance.

After the meeting, they had a short Easter program and after the program we had Easter egg hunt. There were a lot of youth members for the egg hunt.

We had them divided in groups. In age group 0 to 5, Ronney Hrabal was their leader; in age group 6 to 8, the leader was Margarette Lenart; in age group 9 to 12, Keith Hykel and Kevin Dobecka were their leaders.

We also had prize eggs in the following categories: Ages 0 to 5 -- 1st - Susan Hrabal, 2nd - Bradley Kroll, 3rd - De De Kroll.

Ages 6 to 8 -- 1st - Cecelia Rosales, 2nd - Ryan Straten, 3rd - Tammie Jaynes.

Ages 9 to 12 -- 1st - Julye Krizan, 2nd - Robert Lenart, 3rd - Sharon Hrabal.

Those who helped the Rabbit were Eddie Ray and Ronney Hrabal; there were some others who helped, but I didn't get their names. However, I want to thank all of you for helping with the Easter egg hunt and program, also my Assistant Youth Leader Peggy Dobecka. Thanks to all of you!

The youth clubbers sold tickets on some Easter items again. My thanks to those who donated items toward our project.

On March 1st cakes were donated to the West Rest Haven for their residents' birthday party, plus the youth took Easter baskets to the rest home on March 20th.

Our club members need to start working on their crafts, talent, scrapbook and poster.

March birthday celebrants are Tammi Dobecka and Kevin Dobecka.

We will have a kite - flying contest at our April 2nd meeting.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of our Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28, East Bernard, Texas, on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our lodge brother WILLIE KONARIK, who died Sunday, February 19, 1989 at St. Luke's Hospital in Houston.

Funeral services for Brother Konarik, age 73, of East Bernard were held Tuesday, February 21st at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard with Father Charles Carolan officiating. Interment followed in Holy Cross Cemetery in East Bernard.

A rosary was recited Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Davis Dawson Funeral Home in East Bgrnard.

Brother Konarik was born October 23, 1915 in East Bernard. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, American Legion Post No. 226 for 42 years, and SPJST Lodge Karel Jonas No. 28.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Caroline Konarik of East Bernard; one daughter, Betty Konarik; one son, Louis and his wife, Patsy Konarik of East Bernard; one grandchild, Jennifer Erin of San Antonio; three sisters, Agnes Kieler of East Bernard, Rosie Wenzel of Angleton and Annie Holecek of Wallis and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son and four brothers.

May our lodge brother rest in eternal peace and may his memory live among us forever.

The membership of Lodge No. 196, ouston West, was shocked and saddened on November 28, 1988, to hear of the death of our Lodge

12/VESTNIK—Wednesday, March 29, 1989 President Joseph Stephen Musil, at the age of 71 years, 8 days.

Born at Stamford, Texas to Frank J. and Ettie (Slovacek) Musil, Joseph entered military service on March 10, 1941, and served until December 27, 1945. His service included Field Artillery at Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas, and Army Air Corps as a 1st Lieutenant in Burma flying with the 492 Bomb Squadron as a "Hump" pilot.

Joseph was married to Alice F. Vondrak on December 24, 1942, and together they had five children, Larry G. Musil of Austin, Linda N. Braun of Waller. Betty R. Horcica of Houston, Joe A. Musil of Austin and Terry A. Junek of College Station.

Joseph joined SPJST on May 6, 1963 at Stamford, Texas and later transferred to Lodge No. 132, Waller which merged with Lodge No. 42 in 1971. In 1988, through the efforts of Joseph and members of both Lodges 42 and 176, a merger came about and Lodge No. 196 was formed. At the

time of his death, Joseph was president of this lodge.

A funeral service was held on November 30th, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Waller, Texas.

Pastor Nolan A. Sagebiel officiated with burial in Waller Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Maxie Kulhanek, Milton Dawson, Tom Paben, Clayton Solsbery, Edward Wollgast and Ronald Wollgast.

Honorary pallbearers were Alvin Stasny and Henry Naegeli.

Along with his wife, Alice, and children, Joseph is survived by six grandchildren; sisters, Ettie Jesko of Muleshoe, Gladys Rod of El Campo and Lillie Nichols of Arlington; also brothers, Frank M. Musil of Houston, Emory B. Musil of Wichita Falls and Leon Musil of Goleta, California.

The willings hands and quick smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Our society is diminished.

SPJST Member Accepted Into NHS Jason Motal was inducted into the National Honor Society on February 20, 1989 at St. Joseph High School in Victoria, Texas. Jason is a sophomore and the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Motal and the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Adolf E. Motal.

Jason is on the St. Joseph football team and also participates in other sports.

He is an active member of Lodge No. 32, Victoria Youth Club. In 1988, he was chosen District VI King and won third place in State King Royalty.

His brother, Eric, was his duke.

Jason has been an active SPJST Youth Club member since he was old enough to join.

Po vymfeni Pfemysloven (mladiekY kral Vaclav III byl zavrakien v Olomouci roku 1306 necelY rok po timrti sveho otce Vaclava II) za zmatkfr behem tfilete vlady nerozhodneho krale Jindficha Korutanskeho se sebrali k vuli titrapam od Nemcfr na Pardubicku a v okoli Litomyile obyvatele 'nest a osad v teto oblasti pod vedenim Ctibora Zamrskeho z Uherska a Jaroslava z Borohradku a porazili Nemee nahuavu v bitve u Opoena. Jaroslav pak odvedl sebou na Borohradek pul tfetiho sta zajatcu.

V tu dobu byl tu bezpochyby majitelem Mikulai z Potitejna jeho man2elka Eligka pak dostala po jeho smrti mesteeko i tvrz Hradek. Dalil majitele tu byli Matej z Tfence, Pita z Castolovic (1379-1389) a pak Matej House pigici se z Hradku. Ten prodal zdej gi panstvi asi v letech 1411 a2 1415 zamo2nemu Lickovi z Ryzemberka jeho2 potomci byli tu pak majitele vie jak sto let. K vuli gpatnemu viak hospodafeni LickovYch sync Sigmunda, Alexandra a Adama tento rod zahy ztratil tvrz Rokytnici a fadu vesnic a v fijnu 1582 byl nucen prodat i borohradecke panstvl.Toto panstvi obsahovalo vlastni tvrz se dvorem a mesteekem Borohradkem jako takovYm, vesnice Zdelov, Sachov, Bo2etice, Moraysko, Chotiv a NMI 2d'ary, spolu k tomuto panstvi patficim svetelskYm dvorem v Hofenim Zd'are. Pamatkou borohradeckYm usedlikum po Sigmundovi, poslednim majiteli z ryzemburskeho rodu je darovani lesa "Kohoutova" jet jim tento majitel venoval pro "vernou poddanost."

NovY majitel byl Kriitof Betengel z Najenperka, ktery pfed smrti odkazal mesto Rychnov (nyneIgi Rychnov nad Kne2nou) a Borohradek svernu bratru Eustochovi a jeho synu Kriitofovi.

Kriitof Betengel mlad gi viak vie ztratil pro svou tieast na stavovskem povstani; novYm majitelem se stal v

roce 1623 Vincenc Mueiinger z Gumpendorfu. Jeho dcera Marie Katefina prodala Rychnov s Borohradkem rosonskernu biskupovi Vincenci Zucconovi, jet zprostfedkoval shatek smutne pro starou vlast prosluleho Ferdinanda II Habsburka (1619-1637) s Eleonorou, kne2nou mantovskou, ji g take odkazal panstvi Rychnov a Borohradek. Tato bYvala cisafovna prodala za tfi roky po smrti sveho man2ela Rychnov, Borohradek a Zamrsky Albrechtovi Lib§tejnskernu z Kolovrat, jeho2 rod byl tu panem do roku 1861, kdy hrabe Frantikk z Ltitzova zdedil Borohradek a Vamberk jako pfibuznY posledniho palm z Kolovrat, Frantiika Antonina Lib gtejnskeho. LtitzoV§ti pani byli, jak jig v tomto elanku zmineno, majitele Borohradku v dobe vyti gteni proslule Ottovy encyklopedie koncem minuleho stoleti.

Bernard Janeeek jet byl povolanim lesnikem se usadil v Uhrach eili v Mad'arsku, kde se live zueastnil politickeho ruchu etyficatYch let devatenacteho stoleti. Vyvrcholenim tohoto ruchu byl rok osmaetyficatY, ktery otfasl absolutismem jak v ruznYch eastech Evropy tak i v rakouske monarchii. Jak tomu bylo v Mad'arsku? V teto zemi rakouske monarchie se stanovisko narodne rozpinavych Mad'arit rychle oddalovalo od nazoru Slovaku v tak zvanYch Hornich Uhrach (na Slovensku) a Chorvatu spolu se Slovinci na jihu a jihozapadu tehdej gich Uher. Cim vic Mad'afi prosazovali sve budouci cfle, tim vice Slovand v jejich tehdejilm mad'arskern tizemi se' obraceli se svYmi nadejerni na rovnopravnost k rozhodnuti cisafi, ktery byl pro ne meniim zlem.

Herci jsou vet g inou z Ceskoslovenska, tak2e jsme vice merle povinni je odmeniti velkou nav'tevou, nebot' dad ochotniky, aby obetovali Cas, dohromady, neni maliekost (zname heslo fika - "Cas jsou penize").

Tim zabezpeei nadace svoje finaneni fondy a take nabude dobre vyjednavaci posice ve vztahu k universitam a jinYm organisacIm. I kdy2 takova prace neprina i velike finaneni prostfedky, je tfeba i tuto praci vykonat, aby nadace byla zabezpeeena po v ech strankach a vyhnula se zbyteenYm telkostem v budoucnosti.
