Ben F. Trcalek Honored by SPJST

Resolution Of Respect Ben F. Trcalek, Director of District I for the SPJST from January 1, 1981 until his death October 7, 1987, was honored by the SPJST with the following resolution of respect: Whereas, the Supreme Lodge and the SPJST membership was saddened to learn of the death of Ben F. Trcalek, director of the Supreme Lodge SPJST; and. Whereas, Brother Trcalek left surviving him to mourn his departure, Martha, and son, Ben F. Trcalek, Jr., a host of relatives, friends and neighbors, all of whom, with all the members of the Supreme Lodge SPJST, mourn his departure; and,

Ben was a former Texas A&M fiscal officer where he spent several years touching students' lives and assisting them with financial difficulties because the students were real to him, not just figures on account books. Tom Taylor, comptroller for Texas A&M University, worked with Ben for eleven years. Taylor said that Ben was in contact with several students each year and spent the majority of his time at A&M in the fees section assessing and collecting fees from students. "He was one of the cornerstones around here," said Taylor. "He was really missed when he retired. He was constantly helping students work out a variety of problems." Ben Trcalek was an honorable man. Everyone who came in contact with him felt his honesty and sincerity. He never had an unkind word for anyone and always spoke_ of positive accomplishments. His contributions to the SPJST as director, district sales representative, and bylaws committeeman have made a lasting impact on our Society. He was a man we can all be proud to say was our friend. The SPJST will miss his fraternal and business expertise which

he contributed to our organization. Trcalek, born in New Tabor, lived most of his life in the Cooks Point community. He retired about seven years ago from Texas A&M University after 34 years of service in the Fiscal Department. He was active as a rancher, was on the Board of Directors of the Supreme Lodge SPJST in Temple, representing District I, and was a member of the Caldwell Brethren Church, where he served on the Board of He was also treasurer of the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas, a board member of Cooks Point Community Service, Inc., and a former director of the Burleson County Saddle Club. Trcalek was a 1941 graduate of A&M. He servedin World War II as a first lieutenant in the Army in the European Theater. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4458 and of the SPJST Lodge No. 17 in New Tabor. Survivors include his wife, Martha Trcalek of Caldwell; a son, Ben F. Trcalek, Jr. of Caldwell; a sister, Esther A. Zavodny of Caldwell; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Whereas, the members of the Supreme Lodge SPJST desire to record their sorrow at the death October 7, 1987 of Brother Trcalek, who has worked harmoniously _ and diligently for the good of the Society and served as director for the period from January 1, 1981 to October 7, 1987. Be it therefore resolved, that the Supreme Lodge of the .SPJST meeting as a body in session October 21, 1987 hereby gives its formal expression of sympathy and does hereby note in its records the passing from this life of a loyal member, who was respected by his associates and loved by his family and friends. Be it further resolved, that a copy of this resolution be tendered to the family as an humble expression of heartfelt sympathy in their bereavement; one copy be sent to the Vestnik for publication; and one copy be spread on the minutes of the Supreme Lodge SPJST.
