How Much SPJST Insurance Should I Have?

"I've got plenty of life insurance!"

"I'm insurance poor!"

"I don't need any more insurance!"

These are all common phrases we hear from our membership regarding their present level of life insurance coverage.

Life insurance is an item that most people put aside because they feel it is not important BUT IT IS. We all feel we are responsible individuals so let's ask ourselves some thought provoking questions. What expenses will remain when you are gone? What sources of income will your family have? What new expenses might be created in your absence? These are questions that must be answered before you can establish exactly how much life insurance coverage you n'ed.

One formula which is quite general is that you should have an SPJST certificate approximately seven times the amount of your annual income.

This method of determination is very broad and doesn't always reflect what your needs really are.

Let's use a more sophisticated approach that you can do yourself, and it will also serve as a better guide. I do want to point out this is not a true estate - planning formula, but it will give you some "food for thought."

First, add up all the items you want paid off in lump sum amounts when you die. (This would include your mortgage, consumer debts, education expenses, etc.) For the sake of illustration purposes, let's assume this amount comes to $150,000.

Next, figure out how much additional annual income your family will need in addition to income they would receive from existing sources such as Social Security, Dependency

and Indemnity Compensation, surviving spouse's salary, investments, etc. Assume the extra amount needed is $15,000 per annum.

Now you must find out how much money would be needed to draw $15,000 interest per year to make up the income deficiency. To arrive at the answer, simply divide the income needed by what you consider to be a reasonable after tax interest rate. (This is called capitalizing.) In this example, we divide $15,000 by let's say, eight percent, and come up with $187,500.

Our hypothetical individual, therefore, would need $187,500 drawing eight percent interest per year to make up the $15,000 income shortage.

So far, then, you've determined two important things. First, you know the total amount needed to pay off all major expenses your family would otherwise have to shoulder in the event of your death (in this case $150,000).

Second, you know how much money you need to earn the interest required to provide a $15,000 annual income (in this case $187,500).

Now add together the two sums of $150,000 to pay off bills and $187,500 to equal the $15,000 per annum you need to equal the deceased spouse's income to give you the total insurance coverage you need - $337,500. Subtract any existing life insurance coverage you own. Suppose you have $100,000 certificate. Subtracted, from the $337,500 in the example being used, that leaves a shortage of $237,500.

Therefore, you need an additional $237,500 insurance.

Recognizing The Need For Reorganizing Our Objectives And Goals The Supreme Lodge recently appointed a Missions and Goal Committee. Those Supreme Lodge members selected are District I Director Ben F. Trcalek, District V Director Jerry Prochazka, and District VII Director Thelma Hrncir.

The Missions and Goal Committee has held several meetings and is in process of preparing a report of recommendations for the Supreme Lodge for consideration. They recently returned from a workshop conducted

by Lawrence - Leiter and Company concerning the planning process. The workshop was sponsored by BMA, a reinsurance company. Members of the committee indicated that the information received in the workshop will be of help to them in their work.

One of the purposes of the

committee is to assist the Supreme Lodge in adopting a written plan that can be communicated to all levels of the organization. Simply put, the plan will define where the organization wishes to go and how it intends to get there. All of us know that a successful organization must depend on involvement of all levels of the organization. Everyone in the organization at all levels must have a vision of what the organization desires to accomplish.

A well - developed plan should enable people from different levels of the SPJST to work together in solving problems and meeting its goals. It will likely improve more than and enhance communication coordination at all levels of leadership.

Everything has become more complex and all of us are constantly subject to one change after another.

We are confident that the work of the committee will help us cope with many changes that confront us in our leadership roles in the Supreme Lodge as well as the local lodge levels.

WATJLUA Unapproved Minutes Of 1987 District I Meeting The District I annual meeting was held on April 5, 1987 at Lodge No. 186, Caldwell. President Ernest Wentrcek called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. Mica Petty led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Clint Luksa of Lodge No. 186, Caldwell extended a welcome to all present.

Brother Clint Luksa read a list of our departed members. A moment of silence was .observed.

Secretary Carol Petty called the roll of lodges. Lodges represented were Lodges 9, 13, 17, 39, 94, 186 and 189.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Secretary Carol Petty.

Minutes were approved as read.

The 50 - year members' list was read by 2nd Vice President Cecil Dickson.

Fifty members received 50 - year pins.

Youth members from Lodge 17, New Tabor and Lodge 13, Dime Box presented us with some songs. They all gave a very nice program.

Reports were given by District I Director Ben Trcalek, Supreme Lodge Representative Sidney Kacir, Rest Homes Director Melvin Skrabanek, Insurance Committee Member Cecil Dickson, District Youth Counselor Susan Skrabanek.

The treasurer's report was given by Betty Suehs.

Auditing Committee found books in good standing.

Susan Skrabanek received a Million Dollar pin for selling over a million dollars of insurance in 1986. Top sales representatives were Martha Trcalek (Lodge 17), Susan Trcalek (17), and Clint Luksa (186).

There was no old business.

Under new business it was discussed and voted on to have a fall meeting in 1987. New Tabor Lodge No. 17 will

host the fall meeting. Andrew Vavra, Martha Trcalek and Ernest Jakubik were appointed to this committee to set a date and plan activities.

The festivities will begin at 11:30 a.m. serving delicious country - style fried chicken and sausage dinner with all the trimmings included. You are invited to eat with us or to take plates to go. The youth club of SPJST Lodge No. 6 will sponsor various games and activities for everyone's enjoyment and benefit beginning at 1 p.m. and will continue throughout the day.

Beginning at 2 p.m., the lodge will sponsor a fund - raising auction with the old - time country flavor to add enjoyment to the day's activities and to raise money for the lodge's fraternal and charitable purposes.

Our annual picnic has been a long established tradition in the community for members and friends alike. Some of our senior citizen members share stories and memories with us about past picnics they remember as youngsters and as young adults raising their children in this type of environment and still look forward to attending these activities today. I again encourage and invite each and everyone to attend our annual picnic this year and share in those memories along with the fun and festivities associated with it. Lodge 6, Cottonwood Meeting Dear Members and Friends: Our monthly meeting was held Friday night, July 3 at 8 p.m. which was opened by Vice President Robert Dobecka.

The pledges were led by Sharon Hrabal and recited by the present members.

Absent was Secretary Barbara Jean Hykel. The minutes were read from our last meeting by Karen Kroll, who also gave her treasurer's report. All reports were in good order.

A get well card was sent to Bill Skerik.

Donations were made in honor of Brother Otto Hanus and the West Sokol.

Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz proudly announced that we have another District III queen, Miss Lanette Hykel. She made a speech on "How I Can Become a Better Citizen of America By Being a Member of SPJST." She will compete at State YAD on August 16 in Temple. Lanette is the daughter of Edward and Barbara Jean Hykel of West. Her duchess is Tammi Dobecka, daughter of Bobby and Peggy Dobecka of Waco.

Congratulations to both of them. We are proud of them!

The builders who are working on our hall are almost finished; they leveled it, put on new roofing, and few other things. The hall is looking good and will be ready for our big 90th anniversary picnic Sunday, July 19th.

We are inviting everyone from far and near to make plans to attend and help us celebrate with us. We usually have good food served for dinner and all day. The menu will consist of fried chicken, Nemecek's pork sausage with all the trimmings, all kinds of sweets, coffee and tea; other refreshments will be available across the bar. There will be lots of entertainment for young and old. I hope to see all our members and friends.

Door prize of the night at this meeting went to Eddie Ray Hrabal; other progressive prize names drawn were: 1st prize ($10) -- Randy Adair, not present; 2nd prize ($10) -- Ronnie Kroll, lucky winner, who was present; 3rd prize ($1) -- Paula G. Uptmor.

Our next Board of Trustees' meeting will be held Friday, July 31, at 8 p.m.

Lodge 54, West Second Quarterly vleeting The meeting was called to order by Vice President John Emery on May 31st.

All present stood and recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag, led by Jennifer Kocian. Everyone remained standing for a few moments in honor of our deceased members Frank Volcik (who died March 5), Charlie F. Makovy (died March 14), Eddie E. Mikeska (died March 23), Hermina Schoppe (March 23), Emilie Matus (died May 1), and Robert W. Sulak (died May 17). May they rest in peace.

Vice President Emery commended the Sokol group for all the improvements that have been made in Lone Star Hall. All of the efforts made by this group have resulted in a very attractive hall that would nicely accommodate most any affair.

Secretary Anne Emery read the minutes of the March 6 meeting. These were approved as read. Items of correspondence read included a letter from Supreme Lodge President Leshikar regarding a senior citizen's directory, and a letter from Roger Kolar of the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas.

Financial Secretary Maxine Sefcik gave the financial report which was approved as read. There were several annuities and a conversion written up for this period by Sales Representatives Kathy Fritz, John J. Mynar, Bernice Pustejovsky, Rudy J. Sefcik and Raymond Volcik. Sister Sefcik also reported that the lodge will go on direct billing on June 1st. Local lodge dues will still be paid locally and will NOT be included in direct billing; transfers and Certificate of Death forms, etc., will still be processed on the local level.

It was also reported that Freddie Pavlas and Stephen Hutyra of Lodge 54 were West High School graduates.

Since our meeting, it was known that Melissa Marek, a Lodge 54 member, graduated from Hill Junior College with high honors. We congratulate these graduates and wish them a successful future.

Secretary Emery read the treasurer's report which was approved as read.

Sister Beanie Kacir reported that the Audit Committee had met and found all records to be in order.

It was reported that the money received from the Ross lodge when they merged with Lodge 54 was used for improvements on the hall in December 1979, namely the vinyl siding.

Revised copies of the Lodge 54 Rules and Regulations were given to all members present. A vote was taken and these were accepted as written.

Vice Pre'sident read a proposal that pertained to a local group's interest, which has been accepted. A motion was made and carried regarding this proposal.

The following committee was appointed to work on the "Fraternalist of the Year" project; namely, Maxine Sefcik, Beanie Kacir and Josephine Kocian. They will give a report on this at the next meeting.

There will be no SPJST Lodge 54 float for this year's Westfest Parade.

Jennifer Kocian drew for the door prize which was won by Anne Emery.

The meeting adjourned and everyone enjoyed fellowship, refreshments and food. Thanks to the Kitchen Committee and those who

brought other goodies.

I'm sure everyone has received the letter regarding the special called meeting for July 19 at 2 p.m. at Lone Star Hall. The business conducted will be of importance to all Lodge 54 members and everyone should make a special effort to attend this important meeting.

Fund Raising Project

The Ladies' Circle of Lodge No. 74 are working the food booth at the Fiddlers' Festival. This was their second fund raising project. [Information and photo submitted by Creola Wilcox]

Lodge No. 84, Dallas Dear Members: Here it is and summer, and all the rest that goes with it. Every shower, makes the grass grow. I try to keep it cut about every two weeks, with my wife, Sister Evelyn, picking up the litter.

Our apologies to all who attended our dance on June 20th. The air conditioner on the dance floor mal functioned and the light dimmer went out, also. The Czech Mates did a great job in spite of our problems. The dancers just wiped the sweat from their foreheads and kept dancing.

The dimmer is replaced and the air is back to normal. We invite all of you to the Princess Ball on July 18th. The Czech Harvesters will play.

I want to thank all the brothers who helped in cleaning and polishing the dance floor --- Brothers Paul Pokladnik, Emil Petr, Weldon Hackworth, Randy Scott, Gilbert Kalich and Gene Sims. It is appreciated.

We wish our Lodge 84 Brother Oldrick Horak a speedy recovery after his surgery.

Entertainment Committee gave her report and thanked Sister Marcella Kleprlik for her donation of $4 and SisterViolaFajkus for her donation of $4 and a pound of coffee.

Four couples were celebrating June anniversaries. They included Don and Marie Netek -- 44 years, Adolph nd Agnes Popp (53 years), Marcella and Jaroslav Kleprlik (49 years), and James and Lucille Dlugosh (45 years).

Mr. and Mrs. James Dlugosh were presented a corsage and boutonniere

by Mrs. Marcella Kleprlik on behalf of the lodge.

The following members were reported on the sick list Brothers George Schultz, Albin Popp, Don Netek, Joe Pekar, and Sister Alma Trilicek.

OLD BUSINESS -- The committee established .for Fund - Raising presented the members a secret ballot with various recommendations. The list of recommendations was written up on June 4, 1987. As a result of the balloting the followingwas decided: 1. Birthday cakes would no longer be paid for. Volunteers would be requested.

2. Corsageswould only be presented to members of their 25th, 50th and 75th anniversaries.

3. The March anniversary dinners would be discontinued.

4. $2 for adults and $1 for children wouldbe charged for the Thanksgiving dinner. Memberswould bring pastries.

5. Christmas dinner would be free for members. Guests would pay $2 for adults and $1 for children.

6. If the lodgewent on direct billing, the treasurer's salary would be cut 50 percent.

7. The attendance prize would be changedto $3 for the first prize, $2 for the second prize and $1 for the third prize.

8. Split the Pot· would remain the same.

9. The lodge would go on direct billing.

10. An annual fund - raiser would be held.

All these decisionswould go into effect January 1, 1988.

NEW BUSINESS -- It was then decidedthat the fund - raiser this year would be a project. President Trilicek asked all members to get any donations by July so the tickets could be printed. Sister Viola Kurtz volunteered to donate a homemade quilt.

Birthday greetings were extended to Brothers Jaroslav Kleprlik, James Dlugosh and Robby Popp. · Split the Pot was won by Don Netek and Joe Spacek. The attendance prizes were won by Frances Konecky -- 1st prize, Julia Sefcik-- 2nd prize, Viola Kurtz -3rd prize, and Michelle Popp -- 4th prize. . The meeting adjourned at 3:30 p.m, with a motion by Brother George Schultz and seconded by .Brother Frank Fajkus. The members then enjoyed refreshments followed by the games party.

Below is a list of items fOr camp.

iyistrict YAD J ly 19th The District II YAD will be held July 19 at SPJST Lodge No. 24 in Cyclone beginning at 1:45 p.m.

This includes Beseda dancing, individual talent, group talent for Juniors and Teens. Thirty entries have been received in talent and over 150 craft entries and the royalty competition consists of 6 queen contestants and 3 king contestants who will compete for state competition.

All members and friends, Supreme Lodge officers, attorney, editor and their families are invited to attend and give our youth their support by being in attendance for these contests.

Registration will be at 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.

Assembly called to order at 1:45 p .m .

Pledge of Allegiance Welcome by local Lodge 24 President Barbara Macek Response by District II President D.I. Bohac Craft judging and Beseda competition is planned to start at 1:50 p.m.

Individual talent and group talent to follow. Point awards by the Supreme Lodge.

There will be a one - hour break for the afternoon meal and to view the crafts. This will be about 4:45 p.m.

Then the royalty contests will begin followed by announcements of craft and talent winners and awards.

Introduce talent judges and royalty competition and finally the crowning of the 1987 king and queen.

We anticipate to finish at about 7:30 p.m.

Once again, we invite you to be with us and enjoy the talent, craft and royalty speeches presented by our youth.

We plan on seeing you all at YAD July 19th!

District II Youth Camp To all leaders, chaperones and campers planning to attend District II camp, camp will start Monday, July 27 at Camp Val Verde for the Junior group for children (6 through 12). This group of children should arrive at about 10 a.m. or 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 27th. Their first meal at camp will be the noon meal at 12:30 p.m. This group will go home the morning of July 30 at about 11 a.m.

The Teenage group campers (12 through 16) are to arrive at about 10:30 a.m. on July 30 and they will be ready to go home at 11 a.m. on August 2nd.

The activities for the Junior group will start at 2 p.m. Monday, July 27th.

The morning break will include cookies and punch or Gatorade and is furnished by District II camp. The afternoon break is sodapop and the children must buy their own; the price is 50 cents in cans this year so they should have some money for drinks.

If you have any questions, please ask your youth leader or feel free to call me.

Items To Bring To Camp I) Sheets, pillow (if you use one). light cover 2) Swim suit and underclothes (Junior group underclothes initialed if possible) 3) Towels and wash cloth 4) Toilet articles (soap and grooming needs) 5) Casual clothes 6) Flashlight (optional) 7) Long pants, socks and shoes (a must if you plan to ride horses) 8) Hat or cap (for hiking) 9) Change of clothes for each day and large grocery bag or garbage bag for dirty clothes 10) Comfortable shoes (2 pairs are desirable) because you will walk and play quite a bit 11) Camera (if desired) 12) Suntan lotion or bug repellent (optional) 13) Tennis racquet (if you wish to play tennis), balls furnished by the district 14) Stero records (optional) or some favorite dance records 15) Some money for extra sodapop (there will be morning refreshments served by the camp) Our schedule includes swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, crafts, some hiking, outdoor and indoor games of many varieties. Parties are planned for each night.

We will have flag ceremonies twice daily and there should be a patriotic song or a poem in addition to the pledge. Each club will have one of these ceremonies for each group so plan what you will do. Table grace will

also be given by the youth at each meal.

The shortest way to get to Camp Val Verde is to take Highway 36 West out of Temple, go about 6 miles, take Highway 317 to the right toward Moody and go straight through Moody and to McGregor, go to the second red light in McGregor and turn right; this will be Highway 84 heading east toward Waco, go about 8 miles to the Val Verde Exit to the left, follow that road and when you come to a "T" turn right and then take the second road to the left and that takes you into camp. Stop at the dining hall for further instructions.

It seems that I am running out of time this year trying to get this in the Vestnik, so I hope you will come to camp and see what else was planned this last week.

The schedule planned for this year will be similar to last year's for the Junior category since we will have to divide them into five groups and plan to give them a little time to rest during noon. If it continues to be so hot we may have to slow down our activities.

We certainly hope all of you who sent in applications will be able to attend because we are having a place reserved for you in your group and your cabin and we have plans to have a great camp.

The Juniors should bring some pennies for the penny carnival. Game parties are on the schedule for both groups.

The Teenagers will plan their own game parties. There are lots of good things in the planning stage. Don't miss out --- be there! Story telling will be for the Junior group.

Let's all remember our special third annual fun carnival and Distict II fall meeting on September 20 at Lodge No. 187 in Round Rock beginning at 2 p.m. This fun carnival also will be very different and lots of fun. Plan to be there.

The 1987 District IV Youth Achievement Day was held June 20 at the Wall Brethren Church Hall, Wall, Texas. Lodge 160, San Angelo hosted the event and provided a light meal following the awards presentation.

Activities began at 1 p.m. with registration of YAD participants. In addition to the craft, talent and royalty competitions, those attending enjoyed several games of bingo directed by Mr. and Mrs. Leonard Jansa.

Guests included Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and family, District IV Director Stanley Broz, and District IV Officers Leonard Jansa, Dwayne Wise and Raymond Pavliska. Lodges represented were Lodge 49 Rowena, Lodge 73 Seymour, and Lodge 160 San Angelo.

Shannon Blankenship of Lodge 73 was crowned 1987 District IV Queen.

Robyn Jansa of Lodge 160 will be her duchess.

Dear Members and Friends, The youth club meeting was held July 3rd after our Lodge 6 supper and mother lodge meeting. The attendance was fair.

On June 26 the graduation swimming and hot dog party was well attended. We had 23 swimmers. The party was at the West Playdium.

Everyone had an enjoyable time.

District III YAD was held at Lodge 180 in Burleson on June 28th. Our Lodge 6, Cottonwood has a few winners, namely: Kevin Dobecka first place in Hobby Kits and third place in Pictorial Arts, and Honorable Mention in Handicraft.

Keith Hykel received third place in Science/Education and Handicraft, plus an Honorable Mention in Hobby Kits.

Tammi Dobecka place third in Individual Talent, second place in Sewing, third place in Needlecraft, and Junior of the Year.

We have a District III queen -Lanette Hykel and Duchess Tammi Dobecka. Lanette Hykel also achieved the Teenager of the Year award.

Our Lodge 6 Youth Club Scrapbook received third place.

We are very proud of our queen and duchess, plus all the youth club members who were winners in District III YAD. Congratulations to all the winners in District III! On July 3 cakes were taken to West Rest Haven and donated items to three charities.

Lodge 6 is having its annual picnic on July 19, with fried chicken and with all the trimmings. Our youth club will have games, cake walk, fish pond and other activities, so we need a lot of help. Be sure and come help us and work with us because we need young and old members' help.

District III camp will be at Val Verde July 23 through 26th. The youngsters are ready to go. I hope it isn't too hot.

I want to thank our club members and my assistant leader for the birthday gift, which is real nice. Thank you, very much.

Lodge 92, Ft. Worth YC News Dear Friends, I attended YAD Sunday, June 28 at Burleson Lodge No. 180. A large number of people came.

Dear Readers, Our monthly meeting was called to order Wednesday, July 1, 1987 at 7 p.m. by Cheryl Schoeneman (our photographer). Our officers were gone to Kentucky for our 4 - H Exchange.

Ashley Victorick led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Next meeting was set for July 8 to install new officers. I wasn't there but our new reporter informed you.

Old business was about LIT training camp. Angie Sebesta, Donna Schoeneman and John See attended.

The fair parade was another item on the old business list. Rebekah See, Cheryl Schoeneman, Jason Sebesta and Donna Schoeneman rode on the Lions Club Float and won first place.

New business consisted of the county fair winners. They are Cheryl Schoeneman -- Grand Champion Red Poll, Reserve Champion Red Poll in Burleson County and Grand Champion Red Poll overall. Bruce Skrabanek placed 17th in chickens, Ashley Victorick placed 11th in his pig and 5th in lamb, Amy Gaas was too young to enter animals, but she did enter vegetables. She received a white ribbon in squash and red ribbon in

Dear Vestnik Readers, District VI took its annual educational tour on June 30, 1987. We took a charter bus to Galveston where we toured various places.

We first stopped off at an automobile museum where we viewed many antique cars. We then proceeded to go on a boat ride called "The Colonel." We ate lunch on the boat, but the boat ride was delayed because of rain.

After the rain stopped we were soon on our way touring the ship channel. It was a very enjoyable ride.

Our last stop was the Strand. We watched candy being made in one of the candy stores they have there and we then spent the rest of the time shopping in the stores along the Strand.

Before going home we stopped to eat and then made it back to El Campo by 9 p.m., our scheduled time of arrival.

Aside from all the rain, the day went very nicely, thanks to DYC Anita Roye and Assistant DYC Karen Kaspar.

They made the day fun and enjoyable for everyone.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 84, Dallas on behalf of the officers and entire membership, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of sister ALICE KRISKA, who passed away on June 13, 1987 at the age of 68, after a long illness. She was born in Ennis, Texas and her parents were Frank and Annie Hejny, Sister Kriska was a member of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Dallas

and SPJST Lodge No. 84.

Rosary was recited at the Keever Chapel and the Christian Burial was celebrated at St. John's Catholic Church in Ennis, Texas. Rev. Larry Pickard was the celebrant. Interment was at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Alice Renfroe of Dallas; two grandsons, Kirk Renfroe of Dallas and Mark Renfroe of Crandall; three great - grandchildren; sister, Libbie Janousek of Dallas; two brothers, Frank W. Hejny of Telico and Jerry Hejny of Ennis.

May our departed lodge sister rest in eternal peace and may her memory live among us forever.

Resolution Committee: Evelyn Salac Cheryl Petr Ida Schulz —SPJST-

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 186, Caldwell on behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved family of our departed lodge brother LARRY LEE RIPPLE, 49, of Claude and formerly of Deanville, who died Saturday, June 6, 1987, as a result of an automobile accident.

Brother Ripple was born September 5, 1937 in Chriesman, Texas to the late W.J. and Lydia Hejtmancik Ripple.

He owned and operated the Larry Ripple Dirt Contracting Company in Claude.

He had served six years in the U.S. Army Reserve and was a member of

First United Methodist Church in Claude. He was married to Janice Kristof on September 2, 1961.

He was preceded in death by his parents, W:J..and Lydia Ripple.

Survivors include his wife, Janice Ripple and daughter, Donna Ripple, both of Claude; father - in - law and mother - in - law, E.D. and Norma Kristof; a brother and sister - in - law, W.C. and Loraine Ripple of Gulfport, Mississippi; four sisters and brothers in - law, Jean and Ray Valigura of Caldwell, Earlene and Gilbert Kiel of Columbus, Loretta and Marvin Laffere and Joyce and Junell Brinkman, of Caldwell; thirteen nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, June 9 at First United Methodist Church in Claude, with Rev. Don Travis officiating. Serving as pallbearers were Raymond Conrad, Ronnie Hill, Roger Johnson, Bernie

A funeral service was held Wednesday, June 10 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Deanville, with the Rev. Henry E. Beseda of Snook officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Leroy Schwartz, Gilbert Kiel, Bill Watson, Douglas Brinkman, Joe Ofczarzak and Larry Blum.

Honorary pallbearers were Danny Ripple, David Ripple, Keith Brinkman, B.J. Lee and Matthew Kristof.

Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No. 47, Seaton on behalf of our membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our departed lodge brother EDWIN J. CHLAPEK,

who passed away Friday, June 19, 1987 at his home at the age of 86.

Services for Brother Edwin Chlapek were held Monday, June 22, at 10:30 a.m. in Sheffield Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. R.A. Pena and Marvin Chlapek officiating. Burial followed in Seaton Cemetery.

Brother Chlapek was born January 14, 1901 to Joe and Rosie (Langer) Chlapek in Nelsonville, Austin County, Texas. They moved to the Seaton community in 1902 and lived in the area since; he had attended Seaton Public School.

He married Theresa V. Dusek on December 29, 1924. They were engaged in farming, lived on the same farm 43 years before retiring to the Mockingbird Hill in 1968.

He was active in political and civic affairs, had served as election judge in Seaton - Ratibor Precincts for many years, was RVOS Lodge No. 5 member for 60 years and served as officer for 29 years. He was also active in Seaton community and Farm Bureau by serving as an officer.

He was a member of SPJST Lodge No. 47, Seaton for 37 years and served as treasurer and a board member for many years and attended meetings regularly until January 1986 when his health was beginning to fail.

He had attended Seaton Brethren Church and was a member of Seaton Mutual Aid Society.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Mrs. John (Annie) Kovar; one brother, Jerry D. Chlapek, Sr., and two brothers and one sister in infancy.

Survivors include his wife, Theresa Chlapek; one son, James D. Chlapek, both of Mockingbird Hill; one daughter, Mrs. Jerry (Dorothy) Pechal of Seaton; four grandchildren and three great - grandchildren.

May our departed brother rest in eternal peace and may his memories live with us forever.

VICTOR P. HAVRAN, who passed away Wednesday, June 24, 1987, at his residence.

Born August 1, 1913 in Oldenburg, he was the son of the late John and Mary (Cervenka) Havran. He was united in marriage with Anita Havlik on November 8, 1938 in Sweet Home, Texas. He was a farmer and rancher.

Survivors include his wife, Anita Havran of La Grange; two sons, James Havran and his wife, Jean and Victor R. Havran and his wife, Kathy of Lexington, Texas; one daughter, Kerry and her husband, Ashton Baurax of La Grange; three sisters, Ottala Polasek of Manvel and Marcella Wavra and Mary Wavra, both of Columbus, Texas; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
