Youth Leaders' Retreat At Camp Lone Star
All seven districts were represented among the 55 members attending the ret eat.
Get-Acquainted Games -- Making New Friends and Renewing Old Friendships
Camp Lone Star was the site of the annual Youth Leaders' Retreat. Fifty live people attended the retreat February 20 - 22. All seven districts were well - represented by both leaders and their assistants. It was a learning packed weekend, and was beneficial to all. Everyone enjoyed the relaxed atmosphere of learning in a peaceful setting. Workshops were conducted in cake decoration, first - aid and how to dance and teach the Beseda. Youth leaders also received some new ideas for crafts at the craft fair. Each leader brought a sample craft with its instructions. Leaders were then provided with zerox copies of the instructions so an exchange could take place. The game workshop gave the leaders some good ideas of games to play at camp or at the lodge. During the afternoon on Saturday, the special guest speaker, Rob Bremer of SMI, got everyone motivated and ready to strive toward their goals. Rob planted some real seeds of thought in everyone's mind. His insights into
setting goals and being successful were very appropriate for all present. There was a good deal of time devoted to updating all participants on the recent revisions and changes within the Youth Department program. It' you were not able to attend the retreat you should contact your DYC and attend District Training so you can be aware of the changes made in YAD categories and the merit point scholarship. Saturday evening was enjoyed by all because they learned to teach line, circle and square dancing to children. The dance instructor, Joel Wilson from the 4 - H Center in Brownwood, shared with the participants those special tips in getting children to learn and master a dance. It was truly an action - packed weekend to learn and grow and share with others. A special thank you to all the DYCs who ably assisted in conducting this learning event.
