December 13th -- Along with lodge meetings, dances, and lavish meals, a large serving of oral history is dished out by its charter descendants and new members of Lodge No. 35 as their tamilies gather around to share tales of many past Christmas festivities in Elk, located 14 miles east of Waco.

Every year since its chartering, the members maintain a family - style tradition that keeps the yuletide celebrations alive. Among the deep root descendants come from the Bartos, Bordovský, Farek, Holub, Krkoska, Kubitza, Vana, Yeiral, and Zapalac families. After observing the numerous pictures hanging on the walls in the Lodge 35 facilities and the latest photos printed in this issue, means more than 10,000 words.

Prior to socializing and eating a delicious traditional meal, SL President Howard Leshikar spoke to the assembly and then installed the elected o I í'icers, followed by a Christmas program under the direction ol Youth Leader Louise Burney.

Ihe hostesses including other responsible individuals are to be commended for their planning and preparations, which was thoroughly enjoyed by all attendees.

*** The readers of this column, surely, will remember the statement made her c, some time ago, that the Czech Ambassador to the United States Mr. Miroslav Houštecký would visit San Angelo, lcxas, ťor the "Christmas at Old Fort Concho" celebration December 5, 6 and 7, 1986 and Texas A&M University at College Station Monday, December 8th. This was the ambassador's first visit out of Washington, D.C. since being assigned to li.S., therefore, it was an honor for the State of Texas to be his first, especially, in our Sesquicentennial year of 1986!

Mr. Houštecký, his wife, Marie and his attaché, Dr. Jiří (George) Zdarek, arrived Friday, December 5th approximately at noon and visited (weather permitting) Central National Bank (Carolyn Ward), Livestock Auction (Benny Cox), Hirschfeld Steel Company (David Hirschfeld), Texas A&M Experiment Station (Carl Menzies) and Eth icon (Rick Sosinowski , manager); then spent the night with their hosts, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Johnson.

Saturday, was a day well - planned to visit agricultural facilities (including Czech larms of Jansa, Cmerek, Havlak, Drgac, Brenek and Rcminschneider); however, SPJST District I V Director Stanley Broz has informed the editor that Saturday's rain ruined much of the schedule.

Brother Broz sent us clippings and pictures of the visit and we are printing them in this issue and we thank Brother and Sister Broz for their kind and fraternal effort.

For dinner, thev had lunch with Ambassador Houštecký, Mrs. Marie Houštecký, Dr. Jiří Zdarek, State Senator Bill Sims and Reid Pfluger (chauffeur) at the Lowake Steak House for a steak dinner, etc. including Texas' Lone Star beer (which the ambassador liked). Afterwards, they took a tour of Brother and Sister

Stanley Broz's farm and he showed them the equipment and the Lowake Cotton Gin, with the gin owner showing them how it operates. (They do not raise cotton in Czechoslovakia.)

Following the tour, they assembled at the Broz's home for a lunch consisting of Czech kolache, Texas' pecan pie, pecan brittle, pecan cookies and coffee, which Sister Broz and some SP JST friends prepared. The party was met at the front door in the Czech language by Brother and Sister Laddie Socha, Olga Jansa, Annie Faltisek , Pat Tomlinson. Also present were the hosts' children, Debra Halfmann (daughter) and Gary Broz (son), Mrs. Lucy Bubeník (Martha Broz's mother), and Julie Havlak (aunt), all SP JST members.

Since your editor generally has Saturday taken up with completing the Vestnik, we were unable to make plans to go to San Angelo, however, we heard of the bad weather that day, so we, tenat i vely, planned to go Sunday morning to visit with the ambassador, but our SP JST Lodge No. 54, West annual meeting was held December 7th <o yours truly phoned Mr. Albert Vaja, (who was instrumental in getting the ambassador to San Angelo) Sunday morning and his father advised us that the weather was still murky.

Your editor decided to phone the ambassador at Mr. Willis Johnson's home (the host) and we had a nice 30 minute telephone visit. He was very I ncndly and forthcoming and we spoke Czech most of the time during our conversation. He expressed his. surprise that so many of our people of Czech - Moravian descent, here in l cxas, speak Czech and their friendly attitude and also was impressed by the s11e of our íexas SP JST, after asking about the society in our conversation.

Incidentally, he also expressed hope that the future would see an end LO the arms race and the money would be spent on the health and care of our people ol the world in order to make a more satisfactory and happier life for all on the race of the Earth! This shows the truc nature of all Czech - Moravian people.

He was very cordial and expressed hope that we could meet at Texas A&M University the next Day (December 8th), however, admitted that his time would be limited. He sincerely expressed his wishes that we would visit them sometimes in Washington at the Embassy when we may be in that vicinity. Needless to say that Monday, December 8th was rainy all day and to leave College Station alter 5 p.m. would have been "at our nsk " (as the Highway Department said) so we did not try to meet with them alter their stay at Texas A&M University was over at 4 p.m. and they had to board the plane at 4:50 p.m. to leave for Washington. We look torward to meeting them in the future.

Everyone admired their friendly attitude and we wish them the best!

District III Hosts Sales Seminars Sales Seminars were recently held in District Ill at Waco, Ennis and Dallas.

The seminars were conducted by State Field Manager Gene McBride and State Field Representative Jim Wiest with assistance from District Ill Director Sid Pokladnik.

All seminars opened with a dinner followed by a very informative training session.

Lodge 24, Cyclone Meeting Our December meeting was called to order by President Barbara Macek. All officers were present. The members recited the Pledge of Allegiance and stood for a moment of silent prayer for deceased members.

Secretary Carol Chervenka read the minutes of our last meeting and they were approved as read.

A speedy recovery is wished to Edwin Marek of Cyclone who is in the hospital. We hope you get well soon.

The committee chairmen gave reports and discussed them.

There was a lot of discussion on the dances and how to draw a crowd.

Members discussed to lower prices for the dances that pertain to the older crowd from $4 to $3.50; it will be advertised in the local paper as to which ones.

Members also tossed around the idea of having a barbecue dinner some Sunday at noon-the latter part of February was decided as to the date; there will be more on this later.

Celebrating birthdays this month are Arleen Tschoerner and Rodney Posvar. Anniversary celebrants are Raymond and Doris Coots, Wilbert and Margaret Mikeska (25th), Jerry and LaVerne Cabla. We wish you all a wonderful day.

Our next meeting will be on the first Wednesday, January 7th. We will install.officers so I'll see you then.

News From Lodge Nasínec No. 32, Victoria The evening started off with 26 members and 4 guests enjoying smoked turkey and all the trimmings.

The regular monthly meeting was presided over by President Franklin Elles. Following the Pledge of Allegiance. a moment of silence was held for our departed members. Those present were told of the death of Anna Janota Smejkal.

Secretary Katherine Wokaty read the minutes of the October meeting and they were accepted as read.

Treasurer Ella Arnold read the treasurer's report and it was accepted as read.

Members were told that the Czech Days Souvenir Book from the Texas State Fair was available for $7 per copy.

The lodge voted to give $25 to the Supreme Lodge Scholarship Fund in memory of Anna Janota Smejkal.

District VI Director Matt Vanek told of the excellent film on the Czech pioneers being available to the local lodges. He also gave a report on insurance sales which are up.

The election of the officers for 1987 was held. Officers elected were: Franklin Elles -- president Adolf Motal. -- vice president Adele Donalson secretary /reporter Ella Arnold -- treasurer · Trustees are John Motal, Evelyn Horelka and Theo Kocian.

Your reporter was in Taylor on December 6th and was very fortunate to meet Fannie Janota Konakovsky and Della Janota Thiel (both are SP JST members) and their cousin, Henry J. Dusek. We are in the process of putting together a book on the Shillerville comm unity and their parents, Jan and Rosalie Lesikar Janota are part of it.

Lodge 84, Dallas Meeting Dear Members: Sister V. Gerlich led in reciting the pledge to our flag before our monthly meeting on December 15th.

Correspondence was from the Supreme Lodge, a Christmas card, and from East Bernard Czech Singers Entertainment report was by Sister Cheri Petr. The Ball Club has no report.

Decorating -- The committee thanked all who helped make the hall so beautiful for the holidays.

House Committee Chairman Adolph Salac reported the ceiling fixed the roof much better and our front canopy is finished; he is now working on the stage lights. What a busy man!

Dallas - Ennis Fraternal Council had a Christmas party on December 11th.

I need to mention one of our Sunshine ladies, Sister Lillie Jarma was seen showing off her cast protecting her broken leg which she broke after a fall down the top of her house roof. The ventilator was making a squeaking noise, which could be heard from inside her kitchen, so she proceeds to fix this annoyance; the rest is history. Brother Bennie, still in his walker, (at the time) has offered it to her to use after cast removal. Lillie, we wish you a fast recovery.

Lodge 139 Holds December Meeting After President Vincent Hechler opened the meeting of Danbury Lodge 139 on December 10th, Secretary Tommie Lostak read the minutes of the last meeting. He also read correspondence received during the past month. Financial Secretary Helen Filipp and Treasurer Lonnie Lostak gave their reports.

President Hechler then introduced our guests at the meeting, District V Director Jerry Prochazka and his wife, Delores.

Director Prochazka commended three members of Lodge 139 for being among the top 30 insurance sales representatives in the state. They are Helen Filipp, Tommie Lostak, and Lonnie Lostak.

Election of officers was held, and all officers were re-elected to serve in the same offices as last year.

Lodge 154, Ft. Worth Meeting Dear Members and Friends: Our meeting Sunday was called to order by our president, Brother Jerry Milan. He led us to the Pledge of Allegiance. The members remained standing for a moment of silence in memory of our deceased Brother Frank Vodraska of Chicago.

Brother Milan made welcome Sister Katherine Garrison of Creve Coeur, Illinois, who will spend a week with her mother, Sister Mary Hale and family.

Sister Henrietta Milan was honored Sunday, December 7th in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd McDaniel, 5439 Swiss Avenue, Dallas, Texas. Iv's the Palladian home built in 1914 , in the heart of the Swiss Avenue Historic District and known as the most photographed house in Dallas. lt has appeared on calendars with other noted Historic Dallas landmarks, in books about outstanding styles of Dallas architecture, in numerous magazine and newspaper articles, and in two recent movies for television.

The McDaniels have seventeen paintings in their home and clinic by Sister Milan. She exhibited a 48' x 48' painting of the four daughters of professional football player Lyle Blackwood of the Miami Dolphins.

Brother Bobby Joe Cleveland was surprised at the Christmas party for Channel 39 at the Anatole Hotel last Wednesday. He received a plaque and was praised for what he has done for Channel 39 and received a standing ovation. Congratulations.

Also congratulations to our young members, Kelly Hill. who came in second place in all around at the State Meet and to Blaine Mason, first place in vaulting, and Ky Cleveland, 5th place in the USGF Invitational, that was held in Farmers Branch.

Lodge La Parita No. 161 Meeting Dear Members: Our lodge meeting Sunday, December 14, 1986at 11:30a.m. at K Bobs, Pleasanton. Texas convened with Iiítcen members and two guests present.

President Lloyd House called the meeting to order, asking everyone to stand. Pledge oť Allegiance to the flag iollowcd.

The president asked Secretary Tillie Valchar to read the minutes of our last meeting; they were approved as read.

Following, Sister Tillie Valchar gave the treasurer's report.

Selling insurance to 13 new members, with a total of $68,000 in 1986. The report was approved as read by our president.

Election of officers for year 1987 was held. Jim Zezula made a motion to retain the same officers by acclamation. Motion was seconded by Henry Mann. Motion carried.

President Lloyd House appointed Jim Zezula head auditor for the books.

Jim Zezula selected two members to help him, namely, Lydimal Ermis and Joe Juricek.

Tillie Valchar was nominated to be activity coordinator for the coming year.

The meeting was adjourned with all members standing and Lydimal Ermis leading the table prayer.

Door prizes were given, First prize to Helen Zezula, second -- Jim Zezula, third -- Pricilla Chesshir.

Luncheon followed, with everyone enjoying a meal of their choice and, good fellowship of all members and guests, which was welcomed at this time.

Merry Christmas & Happy New Year To Lodge 183 There was a large and jolly crowd of members, friends and guests at the 4 - lodge Christmas party present at Lodge 92 for the get - together. It started with a very good meal with plenty of food for everyone. Thanks to Lodge 92 for a great job well done!

Just before the music started for the dance, the officers for Lodges 92, 180 and 183 were installed by Brother Sid Pokladnik. Brother Sid gave a short talk to the new officers and to the members present. lt was also an honor to have Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and family present for the occasion.

The music by the Country Boys was good and kept the people dancing all evening.

Lodge 183 was well - represented; there were 38 members and guests grouped around three tables. Pat Sill should be given a hand because she had her two daughters, Shelby and Kelly: her mother and father, also mother - in - law and father - in - law, present for this great party.

On Monday, December 8th, Lodge 183 had their regular monthly meeting with 16 members present. All reports were read and approved. Present at this meeting was the president of The Bank of Arlington; who gave the members some information about the loan on the building. There is a brighter light over the hill, so, come on members, let's all pull together and make 1987 the best year of your life and help your lodge be the best lodge in the State ofTexas. Christmas Party & New Year's Eve Dance Planned For Lodge 187 The Christmas party for Lodge 187 members is scheduled for Sunday, December 28th. A short generál meeting will be held at 3 p.m. when the 1987 Board of Trustees and officers will be installed.

The Christmas party will begin immediately after the general meeting.

Members are asked to bring a gift (about $5 in value) for exchanging at the party. The lodge will supply barbecue and potatoes and the members are asked to bring a salad and dessert. Members are reminded that a battle dance between the Debonaires and People's Choice will start at 7 p.m. after t'ie Christmas party.

Everyone is invited to come out to Lodge 187 on December 3 lst and help bring in the New Year. People's Choice will be playing for this year's New Year's Eve dance. The dance will last from 9 p.m. until l a.m. and breakfast will be served immediately after the dance. The cost of the ticket is $15 and includes party favors and the breakfast.

Sunshine reporter, Sister Mary Kosut, gave her report on who she sent cards to. Sister Clara Jecmenek's husband is in Heights Hospital and he is improving. Sister Ima Lero donated a box of cards to the Birthday Club.

Czech Class At Alief Alieť Evening School under auspices of AISD (Alief Independent School District) is again offering a conversational Czech course in the middle of January 1987 at Hastings High School. The location of this school is between Bellaire Blvd. in the south and Alief - Clodine in the north on the southwest side of the intersection of Cook Road and High Star Drive in the community of Alief.

The first lesson of this now announced 12 - week course, designed to develop basic skill in the Czech language, wherever it is spoken, will be on Wednesday, January 21st and henceforth once - a - week on Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuition, set by the school, will be $40 and the instructor will be John J. Karas of Houston.

Czech Heritage Festival SATURDAY, MARCH 28, 1987 CORPUS CHRISTI, TEXAS A Czech Heritage Festival is scheduled for Saturday, March 28th in Corpus Christi at the Bayfront Plaza Convention Center Exhibit Hall from 11 a.m. to midnight. One major event of the festival will be a Parade of Costumes. If your family owns an authentic Czech costume, we encourage you to share your costume with us. What better way to promote your heritage to our neighbors than to proudly show your prized "kroje." A short description and background of the kroje should accompany your request to join the parade. The event will be narrated by Alvin Prochaska,

president of the Czech Heritage of South Texas.

Youth Section From The Youth Leaders Lodge 6 YC December Activities Dear Members and Friends: The Cottonwood Youth Club held their meeting at . 2:30 p.m. on December 7, 1986 with a good attendance; rile club donated cakes to the West Kest Haven, also clothes to Goodwill and knives to Lodge 6 kitchen.

They held a hayride and had hot dogs, chips, dips, cookies and cokes on November 21st. They all had a good time and they wish to thank Ronnie and Karen Kroll for getting the tractor/trailer for the hayride and wish to thank anyone else who helped in any way.

December 5th the youth club helped decorate our lodge hall and practiced tor their program which was for our December 7th Christmas party with supper at 5 p.m., program with Santa Claus, exchange gifts and distribute I ruit bags. Everyone enjoyed the festivities. My thanks to everyone for your help and item donations to the youth club; they were selling tickets for their project and they did real well.

December 21st, our club members will be taking girts to the West Rest Haven, We will meet there at 3 p.m. so try to make it.

Lodge24YC Announces December Social Dear Readers, The December meeting of Cyclone Lodge No. 24 Youth Club was held on December IO, 1986 beginning at 7:30 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President Christi Marek.

Secretary Kim Schneider called the roll; present were 20 members and one adult, Mrs. Nancy Posvar. The minutes were then read by our secretary.

Treasurer Janet Macek reported our t inal balance which was $357.98.

Under old business, we discussed the Christmas program and party which was held Sunday, December 14th. It was a great success. Also discussed was the Christmas caroling at the nursing home held Sunday, December 7th. It was very inspiring to see the folks at the rest home laughing, singing and really enjoying themselves. ln new business, we will go to see a movie at Cinema 6 in Temple on Monday, December 29th. We will be seeing the 12 noon show. The youth club will provide the way into the movie. Afterwards we will go eat pizza. This will be our December social.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Needville Lodge No. 81, wish to express our sympathy on behalf of our membership, to the family of our departed sister LESSIE KACHINSKI, who passed away on Monday, October 6, 1986 at the age of 71 in Richard 's Memorial Hospital in Rockdale after a lengthy illness.

Mrs. Kachinski of Lexington was formerly of Clodine.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kachinski were held Wednesday, October 8th at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Rosenberg.

Burial was in the Greenlawn Memorial Park.

A rosary was recited Tuesday at the Davis - Dawson Funeral Home Chapel.

Survivors include sons, John B. Kachinski of Missouri City, Jimmy D. Kuchinski of Kerrville, Joseph F. Kachinski of Lexington; her mother, Lillie Litvik; sister, Viola White; brother, Richard E. Toman of Lexington and three grandchildren.

May our departed sister rest in eternal peace. .

Expression Of Sympathy We, the members of the Resolution Committee of Lodge Nasinec No. 32 of Victoria, Texas, in behalf of our members, wish to express our deepest sympathy to the family of our departed sister ANNA JANOT A SMEJKAL, of Victoria, Texas, who died on Monday, November 24, 1986 at the age of 91.

Sister Smejkal joined the SP JST on June 7, 1919at the age of 24. She was a homemaker. She was born December 31, 1894 to Czech pioneers Thomas and Anna Vitek Janota. Sister Anna was the last of Thomas and Anna's children. Her husband, Anton Smejkal, died in 1957.

Services were held at 2 p .m.

Wednesday, November 26th at Colonial Funeral Home Chapel on Red River Street with Rev. Harold Pearson officiating .

Burial followed the services in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Robert Smejkal, Alvin Pribyl, Willie Janota, John T. Kellor, Jr., Donnie DeDear and Michael Ray Taylor.

Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Annie L. Leita of Victoria; three sons, Laddie Smejkal of Yoakum, Anton Smejkal, Jr. of Tivoli, James Smejkal of Killeen; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great - great grandchildren.

May our departed sister rest in eternal peace.

Při přátelském setkání, které plánu­ jeme asi tak na čtyři hodiny, si chceme společně zavzpomínat, pohovořit o tom, co je nám blízké a co nás jako krajany spojuje. Oddíl Dopisovatelů Tak Všelicos Anežka Houdková Ten náš Centenniální rok byl velice bohatý na všeliké · oslavy a nyní už .se blíží ke konci. Nejdříve se oslavoval ten rok svobody pro Texas v březnu kdy prý 50 tisíc přišlo to oslavit a znovu se dedikovala ta "Hall of State" v Parku, pak přijel princ Karel z Anglie a pobyl si kolik dní náště vou kolika městech v nasem státu, pak byla oslava ukončení války mezi Tex­ asem a Mexikem, která se jmenovala San Jacinto Day, pak v červnu přijelo mnoho lidí z jiných států a utratili prý 400 tisíe- za jejich pobytu zde. Také milionové zlepšení toho našeho "Fair Parku", a ještě jiné projekty které

potřebovaly zlepšení a opravy. Tedy vše se pěkně vydařilo a Texane jsou spokojení že náš Texas měl vše tak pěkně uspořádané a jsme rádi, že bydlíme v Texasu, že ano? Hodně těch různých věcí na památku této oslavy se dobře prodavalo. Jen lidé litovali, že ta vlajka Texaská, která byla v té bitvě tehdy v 1836 se dosud nalézá v Mexiku a tamní vláda nechtěla jí zapůjčit pro oslavu, ač už dlouho se o tom jed­ nalo a vůbec jí nechtí půjčit nikdy!

Právě oznamovali, že bombování Iraqu proti Iranu bylo příčinou, že ta schůzka té 'olejové společnosti v Zenevě se jaksi ukončila a zas prý v pondělí se sejdou to dokončit. Už prý celkem šestkráte se tito lidé sešli a nikdy nemohou se dohodnout a války všude pokračují-- už by měl být pokoj.

Přiště se sejdou prý v Rakousku neboť v Ženevě je to moc drahé všechno.

Teď jsou noviny a televize plné zpráv o tom že president udělal velkou chybu s tím prodejem zbrani Iránu a pořád to nemá konce-- jeden obviňuje druhého a táhne se to pořád dál. Už by se měl president přiznat, že o tom věděl a ukončit ty debaty a všelijake výslechy.

Však už toho bylo tak moc a neví se, kdo s tím byl vinnen a co vše se událo v té věci. Myslím, že už toho bylo dost a ukončit to nyní hned, aby byl pokoj.

Letos zastavárné obchody (čili "pawnshops") sdělovali, že nemají takové obchody jako jiné léta neb lidé jsou opatrnější a nechodí zastavovat věcí. Rekli, že když něco se dá do zastavárny tak jsou to prý věci lepšího druhu a to ještě je málo teď. Jiné léta se tam scházely všelijaké věci ale nyní je toho málo a prodávají se jen málo věcí-- obchody jsou špatné prozatím.

Minulý týden zase se stala střelba, kde nevinný človék byl náhodou hodně postřelen když někdo zaklepal na dveře druhého člověka a ten když otevřel dveře, tak byl beze všeho střelen pětkrát a nachází se v nemocnici vážně poraněn. Ono prý jistý člověk chtěl se pomstít za to, že poranil jeno bratra v potýčce, ale to byl omyl když ten vražedník se zmýlil v adrese a střelil někoho kdo vůbec neměl s jeho bratrem nic co dělat. Jenže nevinný člověk to odnésl a nyní bojuje o svůj život. Jak je to smutné, když něco takového se stane. On ten postřelený je myslím vdovec a má dcerku 7mi-letou o kterou se musí starat. Kdyby se mu , něco stalo, tak kdo opatří tu dívku?

Proč lidí si to lépe nerozmyslí než něco takového provedou?

Také dvou-letý hoch zastřelil malou čtrnácti měsíční děvčátko s pistolí, kterou našel v kumbálku. Je to jistě vidět, že takové věci jako zbraně mají být dobře uzamčené aby malé děti nemohli se k ním dostat a někoho zabít anebo vážně poranit. Nevím, že už rodiče si nevezmou příklad co by se mohlo stát a být opatrnější. Teď už je pozdě litovat něco tak strašného.

Ta žena která v srpnu zaškrtila 5ti­ letou dívku skrze to, že dělala rámus a neposlechla opatrovnici když ta jí řekla aby byla ticho a nedělala rámus, tak byla souzená a obdržela prý 99 let ve vězení za to. Proč ta musela jí škrtit, když jí mohla vyvésti ven pryč aby šla domů když bydlela jen přes cestu? Co teď bude mít z toho všeho- má zkažený život navždy.

V pátek ráno minulého týdne jsme přece jen se dočkali míti trochu toho sněhu a dosti chladna. Ovšem ale, když pak slunce vyšlo tak sníh a omrzlina se začaly roztávat a pak k polednímu už vše skoro bylo pryč. A ti co jeli brzy ráno do práce tak měli těžkosti když jim kola na autě klouzala a tolik moc se stalo srážek. Také byla velká mlha a to též způsobilo hodně škody, a neštěstí. Prý do devíti hodin v pátek tak hlásili snad 150 srážek zde v Dallasu a to je jistě hodně. náší

Nyní budou brzy Vánoce ale někteří vůbec nedbají a okrádají kde můžou.

Jistý člověk přišel do budovy zde kde se nalézá zlatnická firma "Cartiers" a pistolí okradl tuto firmu o šperky, hodinky, . naušnice a jiné věci v ceně 750 tisíc dolarů (však náhrdelník z Burmeského "rubína" měl cenu 240 tisíc) a zloděj pobyl v obchodě jen 8 minut ale vyčistil obchod ze všeho skoro co měli naprodej k vánočnímu prodeji. Vše je prý pojištěné ale přece je to velmi špatné když někdo může provésti takové zlodějství za bílého dne, že ano? Už to není jak to před lety bývalo, že takové věci se neprováděly, že ano? Nevím kam ten svět spěje když něco takového se může dít v dnešní době.

Dnes zase oznamovali, že ti olejoví špolečníci se sešli v Ženevě a řekli, že snad možná se dohodnou jak to udělat s výrobou oleje aby ceny byly lepší, ale dosud to není ještě ukončené. Jako dosud tak někteří chtí vyrábět méně oleje aby se to zlepšilo ale druzí zas chtí prodávat více a tak budou chtít mít ještě trochu déle to rozmlouvati a doufají, že se nakonec shodnou. Však už se to táhne hodně dlouho a pořád není nic uděláno. Někteří lidé jsou spokojení za co gasolín nyní se prodává a tak mohou více se projíždět na výlety, kdežto dříve to hodně více stálo.

Ve východním Německu se stala zase tragedie když letadlo které vezlo asi 81 lidí se zřítilo a jen pry 12 lidí se zachránilo. Většina jich byli východní Němci a navráceli se z Bělorusi v Rusku. Letadlo bylo zničené pádem s ohněm, a pacienti byli ve vážném stavu v nemocnici. Těch letadlových neštěstí bylo letos už opravdu velice moc a co lidí zabítých a škody pro firmy letadlové. Doufejme, že se to zas polepší brzy.

Ten Sesquicentenníalní rok se blíží ke konci ale někteří nejsou spokojení tou oslavou, kterou Texas letos měl, že je to 150 let kdy Texas se vysvobodil od Mexika, že to nemá být. Totiž občané Mexické národnosti se cítí, že je to jaksi oslava kdy Mexiko ztratilo vládu nad námi a znamená to oslava pádu celého Mexika a tedy že to nemá být. Říkají, že všechno co se píše a oslavuje, není úplně pravda a jsou rozhorčení nad tím. Lidé v Texasu jsou zase potěšení, že je to pravda že Texané byli hrdinové když získali svobodu pro nás a máme to oslavovat!

Nedávno jsem se zmínila o té 69 leté ženě která jela busem a pak měla neštěstí když slézala zadními dveřmi, tak se jí chytly šaty do dveří a ona padla nešťastně pod kolo busu a pak museli v nemocnici lékaři jí dvakráté operovat a odejmuli jí nohu nad kolenem. Nyní je v nemocnici a řekla, že jakmile obdrží umělou nohu, tak ze půjde zas zpět do práce k "Goodwill Industries", kde už je zaměstnáná 18 let. Zaměstnanci v Baylor nemocnici si jí "adoptovali" a začali sbírat příspěvky pro ní a hned už na začátku mnoho lidí zaslali lístky s přáním aby se pozdravila a přiložili nějaké penize a už.se jí to schází. Ta busová společnost na kterém busu byla poraněná pak jí obstarali ošetřovatelku aby vypomohla jí s léčením a též rodině její aby byla napomocna. Toto je jistě dobrý skutek chudé, poraněné osobě, která vždy hlěděla pracovat pro dobro lidské, a doufáme, že srdce zámožných jí pomůže zase se pozdravit a jíti dělat to, co ona tak ráda koná.

Také jsme se dočetli, že v městě En­ nisu tamní obyvatelé silně protestují proti tomu, aby se tam postavila budova ve které odpadky z nemocnice by byly tam spálené, že ten kouř by škodil lidem na zdraví a pokazi to ob­ chodu, neboť by tam žádný nechtěl se usadit a t~~ obchody by to neměli

rádi. Teď jsou skrze to velké rozruchy a 300 lidí přišli do městské úřadovny jim to rozmluvit, aby nebylo dovoleno něco takového tam být postavéné.

Také vidím, že krajan Ron Haškovec jako mechanický inženýr je proti tomu. Tak nevíme, jak to skončí.

Zde ta busová společnost snad mínila zvýšit poplatky na busech ale ti chudší a starší lidé jsou proti tomu, že oni už mají tolik všude platit a chtí aby společnost to nekonala, a teď je v dnešní době velice moc · kdy vše je dražší a peněz je málo.

Minulý týden jistý člověk ukradl vánoční stromek, kde Skauti měli svůj lot kde prodávali ty stromky na dobrý úmysl. Ten člověk byl chycen a je ve vězení a pod zárukou $1200 dolarů.

Ten stromek měl cenu $50.00 a nyní mu to přijde draho konat něco takového, a to ještě teď před Vánoci · kdy má každý míti srdce a raději darovat nežli krást, že ano?

Ve středu minulého týdne jsme měli vzácnou návštěvu až z Moravy, kdy přišli nás navštívit manželé Baronovi, kteří přijeli ztrávit Vánoce s dcerou a zetěm Milan Novakých a s vnukami Erikem a Petrem zde v Dallasu. Známe je už kolik let a vždy si rádi popovídáme krajansky o té staré vlasti naších rodičů. Já mám nyní 74 panenek v československych krojích a abych měla více tak si pí. Baronová vzpomněla a přivézla mě ještě jednu "Brodňanku" jenž jsem dosud neměla. Velice mě to překvapilo, a v loni mě též přívézla párek v českých krojích. Jsem jí velmi vděčná za její přátelství a snad budu moci se nějak jí odměnit. Pobydou si Baronovi ještě několik týdnů když počasí teď je chladnější-- když tu byli loni vletě tak bylo to pro ně moc horko. Škoda, že minulý týden jsme nemohli jet do En­ nis na vánoční oslavu v tamním Šicím Kroužku a vzít je aby se pobavili s kra­ jany tam.

Zde v našem městě dva občané štědrého srdce tak daroval každý z nich 50 tisíc dolarů aby se mohlo podarovati ti chudí a bez domova lidé o Vánocích.

Někteří jsou bez práce a nemohli ani zaplatit nájem z domova a též někteří byli nemocní a tak tedy ti "Holiday Helpers" čili dárci k pomoci těm nešťastným opravdu udělali dobrý skutek. Jednoho co známe osobně tak dal těch 50 tisíc, on má prodejnu piva a jmenuje se Bill Barrett a též v Ennis ho znají dobře. Tedy asi jistě se najdou ještě vice štědrých a pomůžou hodně aby svátky byly veselejší.

Také zde minulý týden dívčí Skautky měly schůzku a sehnaly (1800 plechovek) potravin kterými podarují potřebné lidi. Těch 1500 dívek jistě s tím pomůžou velice udělat moc radosti na svátky, že ano?

Jistý 46-letý policista v Addison, Texas byl nešťastnou náhodou zabit druhým policistou když udělali nájezd na jistý apartment kde prý přechovavali drogy, a že ten druhý policista myslel že on je ten který prodává drogy tak poněm střelil když on měl jen obyčejný oblek. Pak v nemocnici zemřel a teď bude výslech jak se to mohlo vše stát. Je to smutné pro jeho rodinu že tak musel odejít ze světa takovým způsobem a to zrovna teď před svátky. Kdyby ten zabitý měl na sobě policejní oblek tak asi nebyl zabit. Ten který udělal tu nešťastnou chybu tak bude do smrti míti to na svědomí lidský žívor- a to je ovšem velmi strašné-- nemám pravdu?

Zde v našem městě konečně opravili jistou budovu ve které rodiny jenž nemají kde být a potřebují výpomoc s přístřeším, jídlem, šatstvem a lékařskou pomoc, tak mohou tam být 30 dní než se pro ně najde práce, byt a jiná pomoc. Budova může pomoci celkem 22ti rodinám ale prozatím je

tam 14 usazených. Budou potřebovati asi 450 tisíc vpříštím roce to vydržovat pro ty potřebné, a ještě je zapotřebí 200 tisíc dolarů na dohotovení světnic.

Prozatím sehnali 100 tisíc a spolehají se, že lidé jim vypomůžou dary aby se vše dokončilo. Letos je to velmi špatné pro mnoho lidí a stále žádají různé organizace o výpomoc. Snad se to dobře vyplní.

Minulý týden firma autová "GM" oznámila, že musí odložit přes dva tisíce dělníků až do 2.února 1987, neboť chtí obarvit tu továrnu kde se dávají dohromady auta. Celkem prý 24 tisíc dělníků bylo odloženo a to je ovšem špatné pro mnohé lidi. Doufe­ jme, že v 1987 se to zlepší.

Ještě bych chtěla popřáti všem kra­ janům veselé Vánoce a Štaštný Nový rok 1987 a hlavně mnoho zdraví každému. Mějte se dobře.

Vyučování českého jazyka v Aliefu.

Aliefská večerní škola, v činnosti pod záštitou Alief ského samostatného školního okresu (AISD), má opět ve svém jarním programu kurs hovorové češtiny. Tento dvanácti týdenní kurs zahají první lekcí v druhé polovině led­ na 1987 ve středu 21. ledna. Vyučovat se bude jednou týdně, vždy ve středu, od 7 do 9 hodin večer. Školné, ustanovené večerní školou, bude $40.00. Tento kurs bude zase zaměřen na jednoduchou konversaci se základní mluvnicí, k rozšíření hovorových možností všude, kde je používána česká řeč. Další informace k tomuto oznamovanému večernímu vyučování českého jazyka zdělí všem zájemcům kancelář večerní školy.

Řád č. 47. Seaton Milé sestry a bratři, Naše prosincová schůze byla zahájena předsedou Jerry Pechalem přesně ve 2 hodiny v neděli odpoledne.

Měli jsme 67 členů a 3 návštěvníky přítomno; vlajky nastolily ses. Tracy Klusáček a Heidi Schroeder.

Povstáním a tichou vzpomínkou jsme uctili památku zesnulých bratrů John J. Junek a Edmond Jeske. Zesnulým , přejeme tichý spánek na večnosti a pozůstalým patří nase soustrast.

Návštěvy jsme měli Della Mařínik, Ann Balusek a Gertrude Kahlig; přijďte zase.

Protokol z minulé schůze byl čten a byl členy přijat tak, jak napsán.

Dopisy byly čteny a sice děkovné kar­ tky od rodin výše jmenovaných zesnulých členů, vánoční kartka od Smith Supply Company a dopis od East Bernard Czech Singers.

Na lístku nemocných jsme měli sestry Mary Šenkir, Virginia Greger, Agnes Depolma, Frances Pavlíca a bra. Frank Spanhel; je Vám přáno abyste se brzy pozdravili.

Nové členy jsme měli John Matthew Wilkinson a Kimberly Leannette Miles.

"Conversions" pojistky jsme meli Christi Jo Wigginton, Christopher Allen Broussard, Louis John Kohutek, Gordon Lee Kohutek, Randall Miller, Diane Olejník, Martha P. Dubčák, Traci Michelle Wharton a Andy Ray Wharton. Vítame Vás všechny do řádu a přijďte do schůzí i na zábavy. Úředníci a výbory podali jejich zprávy, které byly dobré; ses. Adeline Kohutek podala zprávu za dozorčí výbor. Bratr Willie E. Kohutek měl proslov a říkal že naši zástupci na pro­ dej pojistění se velice dobře drželi v prodeji pojistek, za což byli obdařeni potleskem. · Pak byly nějaké nedoděla~é volby a sice: na výčepním výboru (bar chair­ man) byli zase zvoleni br. Česká vzdělávací nadace ·státu Texas Jedná se o naši budocnosti. Chceme ustanovit na jedné státní universitě. stolici českého jazyka, kultury a literatury. Někteří krajané tomu dobře nerozumí - (této věci).

Našim účelem je sebrati dostatečnou sumu peněz; to je kolem půl milionu dolarů, aby z úroků jsme mohli pod­ porovat češtinu a naši kulturu. To znamená, že kdyby někdo chtěl studovat češtinu dnes, anebo v roce 1999 anebo 2099 universita, kde bude ustanovaná stolice českého jazyka, by musela vyučovat češtině i kdyby byl jen

jeden přihlášen ke studiu.

Když vládní kruhy ve Washingtonu si přejí, aby se vyučovalo češtině všude tam, kde ještě krajané žijí a řeč si udržují, jistě i širší veřejnost by měla projevit více zájmu o to, aby naše děti a vnoučata nemusela studovat cizí jazyky, ale aby se učila češtině.

Prosím Vás, dobře si to rozmyslete.

Textilie pro zdravotnictví

speciální obvazové materiály. Ústav úspěšně spolupracuje také se zahraničím. Výsledkem společného rešení se Všesvazovým vědeckovýzkumným ústavem textilního a galanterního průmyslu v Moskvě jsou například čtyři typy cévních náhrad, jež svou konstrukcí napomáhají k podstatnému zkrácení doby cévních operací. Od roku 1986 je Výzkumný ústav pletařský v Brně koordinátorem mnohostranné vědeckotechnické spolupráce, směřující ke zdokonalení dosavadních a vývoji nových výrobků při současném uplatnění biologicky aktivních látek. Na této součinnosti se podílí s partnery z Bulharska, Polska, Rumunska a SSSR. Mezi nejnovejší výrobky, které ústav vyvinul a dodavá pro zdravotnictví, patří textilie PRILA pro rekonstrukční výkony v kardiochirurgii.

Jako podložka pro spojení levé srdeční komory po odstranění její výdutě slouží implantabilní plsť CORTEX 20.

Na pooperační rány je určen suchý ob­ vaz SANA VEL 3, jehož lze použít i na odberové plochy kožních autotransplantátů. (akr)
