Lodge 29, Taylor was the setting for the first SPJST Taroky Tournament.

All participants and guests were treated to a day full of friendly competition, socializing and a delicious barbecue meal provided by Lodge 29. Excerpts From Minutes Of The Third Regular Quarterly Meeting Of The Supreme Lodge SPJST Held July 7-9, 1986 At The Home Office In Temple, Texas The meeting was called to order at 9 a.m. with all Supreme Lodge members present: Howard B. Leshikar, President Bernard M. Gebala, Vice President Mikeska, D. Leonard Secretary/Treasurer Jerry Mikulas, Financial Secretary Sidney Kacir, Legal Advisor Ben F. Trcalek, District I Willie E. Kohutek, District II Cyrill Pokladnik, District III Stanley Broz, District IV Jerry Prochazka, District V Matt S. Vanek, District VI Thelma Hrncir, District VII The agenda for the meeting was set and recess was taken to allow the directors an opportunity to conduct the semiannual audit and provide time for meetings of the Products Committee, the Fraternal Activities Committee and the Financial Planning Committee. Each of the committees met and prepared recommendations for acting by the entire Board.

The meeting was called back to order on July 8th at 8:30 a.m.

Minutes The minutes of the April 9 - 10, 1986 Supreme Lodge meeting were considered and approved as presented on motion duly adopted.

Corporate Progress and Products Review Actuary John Agee was present for an in depth discussion of new products, profitability, and some form of incentive subsidy to local lodges.

The Society's outstanding progress was reviewed. Future needs of our members, lodges and Society were discussed.

Reports The Supreme Lodge Officers' reports were acknowledged and the reports will be placed of record.

Old Business Fraternal Fest -- There was review of a report of income and expenses for the Fraternal Fest and it was agreed that a clarified accounting of income and expenses be presented for further consideration.

It was understood that 10 percent of the food sales will be donated to the child abuse prevention project. The convention center's share of the sales also was 10 percent according to their rental requirements.

The meeting recessed for lunch.

Program on Czech History/Culture -Report was heard on changes in the video program being produced by KNCT and it was agreed that any changes in the program would be made available to all Supreme Lodge members.

Scholarships -- The sum of $30,000 was allocated for 30 freshmen and 30 undergraduates scholarships of $500 each on motion duly passed.

Czech Language Allocation Fund -The following was approved for those institutions teaching the Czech language: Universities -- $1,000 Junior Colleges -- $800 High Schools -- $600 Insurance Plans -- A motion was adopted to proceed with plans to place ordinary life and Annual Renewable Term on the 1980 CSO Table. It was also agreed to set the minimum certificate at $5,000 on the ordinary life and ART at $25,000.

Refinancing/Modification Mortgage Loans -- The refinancing/modification program for high interest mortgage loans approved in the April Supreme Lodge meeting was extended to October 31, 1986 unless withdrawn earlier by mail poll of Supreme Lodge members.

The matter of the interest rate on refinancing/modification of commercial loans was clarified by adding the provision that the interest rate on commercial loans would be 1 percent higher than the owner residence category.

Premium Collection -- The status of converting lodges to direct bill was discussed.

The success of the pre - authorized checks (PACS) was reported.

Fraternal -- There was a lengthy discussion about whether or not to have a statewide Fraternal Fest in 1987. It was decided that the matter should be studied by the Fraternal Activities Committee prior to the October Supreme Lodge meeting.

NEW BUSINESS -Training Equipment - Purchase of a color TV and VCR for training purposes was approved.

Youth Campers - It was decided that the names of campers be provided to the Supreme Lodge by the DYCs together with camper authorization forms from all districts.

Survey - Authorization was granted to mail out a survey form concerning ideas or formulas for funding local lodge needs. The survey was to be mailed with billing notices and is to be printed in the Vestnik.

EDP Committee - President Leshikar was appointed to the Electronic Data Processing Committee. Other members previously appointed are Vice President Gebala, Secretary/Treasurer Mikeska and Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas.

Recess for the day was taken at 5:40 p.m.

Delinquent Loans - Recommendations on delinquent loans were considered and approved.

Pre - Authorized Checks [PACs] Report was made that the pre authorized option would be extended to borrowers making mortgage loan payments.

Minutes of Supreme Lodge Officers' Meetings - The minutes of meetings held concerning investments were approved on motion duly passed.

Second Quarter Investments - The investments as listed in the Secretary's Treasurer's report were ratified on motion duly adopted.

SPJST Mortgage Rates - The mortgage rates were left unchanged and would remain as set the previous Supreme Lodge meeting.

Annuity Rate - The interest rate for the accumulation period on annuities was set at 8.75 percent annualized for the period from August 1, 1986 through October 31, 1986.

Universal Life Rate - The Universal Life rate was set at 10 percent annualized for the period from August 1, 1986 through January 31, 1987.

Vestnik - It was reported that there was an extra Wednesday in 1986 which was not provided for in the Vestnik Contract and it was agreed to provide the extra funding to publish the Vestnik for that week.

Wednesday, August 13, 1986—VESTNiK/5 Lodge Loan Delinquency - The longstanding delinquency of a lodge building loan was reported and considered. Requirements and recommendations were prepared by the Supreme Lodge to be mailed to the lodge.

Recess for lunch was taken from 12 noon to 1:15 p.m.

State Youth Director's Report - SYD Sue Meadows reviewed her written report and also gave an oral report on several items.

Reseda Training - The sum of $300 was authorized to prepare a Beseda Video tape for training to be distributed one per district for use by the Youth Department.

Fraternal Fest - An accounting was presented and reviewed and the loss as of July 9, 1986 was $2,244.56.

Directors' Report - The written Directors' Report was presented and the report will be placed of record.

Report was heard that the audit of

books revealed the records to be in order and in excellent condition.

Clarification was requested and received on several matters. An audit of the safety deposit box accounted for all bonds and securities.

Camera for Editor - Authorization was granted to purchase a Canon camera for Editor Rudy Sefcik to replace his unserviceable camera.

Youth Camps - President Leshikar and SYD Meadows were authorized to look into camp alternatives for District V and District VI. The next Supreme Lodge meeting was set to begin at 9 a.m. on October 7, 1986. All committees will meet at 1:30 p.m. on October 6, 1986.

The meeting was adjourned at 4:30 p.m.

Lodge 54 Quarterly Meeting First, let me express my sincere apologies for the lateness of this report. I will not try to explain but this summer has certainly been a hectic one in our household. This summer has zipped by so fast for me that I cannot even realize that August is here. Maybe that's a good thing, the sooner this oppressive heat is gone, the better.

Lodge 54, West met for the second quarterly meeting at the Lone Star Hall on June 1st. President Ted Kocian called the meeting to order at 2 p.m. Jennifer Kocian led the group in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag. Everyone remained standing for a few moments of silence in memory of our departed brother and sisters who died since our last meeting, namely, Frank W. Dolezal, who died on April 2, 1986; Mary Skopik, who died on April 28, 1986; and Olga Krkoska of California who died on October 18, 1985. The lodge was not notified of Sister Krkoska's death until May 1.

A roll call of officers showed all to be present with the exception of Treasurer Freddie Kaluza and Financial Secretary Janice Kaluza.

President Kocian explained that their absence was due to the illness of their son, Brandon.

Secretary Anne Emery read the minutes of the March 2nd meeting.

After one correction was made, these were approved. The treasurer's report was read by Secretary Emery and was approved as read.

The following items of correspondence were read and discussed. A letter of thanks for our donation to the Statue of Liberty Restoration Fund, a letter regarding the SPJST Taroky Tournament, a letter regarding the SPJST Fraternal Fest and a letter of thanks for our donation to the Czech Educational Foundation of Texas, all from President Howard Leshikar of the Supreme Lodge. A letter from SL Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas regarding the number of delegates to number of members to amount of insurance sales was read and explained

by President Kocian. A letter from the American - Czech Culture Society was read and we elected to purchase a quarter page ad in the State Fair Brochure. A letter of thanks for our donation to the Czech Chair from Joseph J. Skrivanek Jr., president of CEFT. Vice President John Emery reported that no action was taken by the Rules & Regulations Committee and no report could be given since there were no other members present. This discussion was tabled until our September meeting.

Sister Maxine Sefcik, acting financial secretary, gave the Insurance Account report. This was approved as read. There are two new members on annuity policies, namely, Corey Wayne Price and Aaron John Mynar.

There were three conversions to annuity policies for Jacob Cody Kaluza, Shawn Arron Kaluza and Caralou Young. There was one JT conversion on Melissa A. Anthony.

Sister Margaret Wright (adult) and Patrick Wright (youth) transferred to Lodge 66.

Nine of our members were 1986 graduates; these were Chris Anthony, Paul Cepak, Tammy Gerik, Kevin Maier, Carla Maynard, Michael Marek, Mary Nors, Derek Scott and Tina Wolf. Our congratulations go to all of these former youth club members.

President Kocian complimented the Sokol group for all of their efforts and dedication. Lodge members were encouraged to support this fine group.

President Kocian appointed John Mynar, John Sulak and Henry Matus as a committee to make a purchase of a donation to Sokol for their July 4th auction.

There was no Audit Committee report at this meeting.

The group sang "Happy Birthday" to Johnnie Uptmore. He was the only birthday celebrant present. Sister Anne Emery will furnish the birthday cake for the September meeting honoring all members who celebrate birthdays during this quarter.

Our next meeting will be held on September 7th at 2 p.m.

Brother John Sulak was the winner of the door prize. The meeting was adjourned and everyone enjoyed snacks, refreshments and fellowship.

Harley and Viola Cox are proud grandparents. Katherine Grace Parrott was born to Bonnie and Bob Parrott on Sunday, July 27th. She weighed 7 pounds, 3 ounces. A lovely biby shower, hosted by Gina Cox and Jeanette Eubank, was held at the home of Gina and Don Cox on Saturday, July 19th. Many lovely and useful gifts were received by the mother - to - be.

Elsie Talcott had another cataract surgery and recuperated at the home of daughter, Doris and Henry Knapick.

Elsie is back in her apartment now and feeling "fit as a fiddle."

Sister Ida Hanka is bkk at S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home after her hospital stay.

Mike Trefell collapsed at his home and was rushed to the hospital. After extensive testing and several relapses, a pacemaker was inserted and things appear much better now. (Abty Kleb is filling in as pool manager for Mike for the rest of the swim season.)

6/VESTMK—Wednesday, August 13, 1986 Mary and August Roznovsky, Steve and Estelle Kelly, Joe Miksch and Ed Miculka flew to Las Vegas on Tuesday the 29th ready to test their skills. Some came back tired but smiling while others just came back tired.

On Friday, August 15th Texas Brew will play country/western music in the ballroom and on Saturday, August 16th Lee Roy Matocha will feature polka and waltz music. Manny Green appears on Saturday, August 23rd with the big band sounds. This will be a dress code dance and tickets are on sale for $17 per couple.

Our Financial Secretary Josephine Pflughaupt is featured this week in my series of "Know Your Officers."

Josephine Hilsher was born to Charles and Albina (Halamicek) Hilsher in the small community of Roznov in Fayette County, Texas. She was the sixth child of eight born to this couple. Her father, Charles, and brothers, Alfred, Charlie and Harold are deceased. Mrs. Hilsher resides at Care Inn in La Grange and has reached the age of 93.

Josephine has two sisters, Ruth Martinak and Gladys Havemann residing in Houston. Brother John, twin brother to Charlie, lives in Fayetteville and Sister Eleanora Lange lives in La Grange. Josephine married her childhood sweetheart Leander Pflughaupt and they have three children. Larry is a traffic safety specialist with the Texas Highway Department. Carol Goedeke teaches vocational office education at Klein High School and Lynn is a senior at the University of Houston majoring in Accounting. Josephine and Leander have five grandchildren, Lee, Karl and Paul Pflughaupt, and Cathy and Gregory Goedeke. Josephine graduated from Fayetteville High School with honors and has worked at Hilsher's Home Supply, Meyer Brothers and South Coast Insurance Company: She came to work in the lodge office in July 1977 and in May 1979 became financial secretary of Lodge 88. She has also served on the Entertainment Committee and the Publicity Committee. Josephine has been an SPJST member all her life and transferred to Lodge 88 and became active with her family shortly after our move to Beall Street. Everyone in the family is active, serving in various positions here at Lodge 88. Husband Leander served as Entertainment Chairman and has been on the Board of Trustees. Son, Larry, has been president of Lodge 88 and is currently serving as a board member. Daughter in - law, Dorothy, has been youth leader and is now District V Youth Counselor. Son, Lynn, has served for several years as treasurer and before that was active in our youth club.

Grandsons are all active in the youth club at this time. Josephine and her family have served us well at Lodge 88 and I know they will continue to do so in the future. Our thanks for a job well done.

No. 88 Houston Contributes $300 To Abused Children

The Board of Trustees has contributed $300 to help the abused children in the Houston area which is felt to be for a very worthy cause.

The Abused Children Committee of the lodge collects used clothing, shoes, and toys from lodge members to assist organizations who help these needy abused children. Lodge 88 members

have been most generous in their gifts of used clothing and shoes. Anyone having used usable clothing and shoes may drop these off at the lodge office and leave with Josephine or Shirley and the Abused Children Committee will deliver this to those in need. And don't forget -- your contributions are tax deductable.

Other contributions made by the Board of Trustees include $25 to the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, $25 to Alzheimers Disease Association, $322 to a high school drill team, $510 to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, $600 to Timbergrove Little League Baseball, $50 to District V meeting, $300 to the Ladies Oriental Shrine Drummettes, $50 to March of Dimes, $50 to FFA, $25 to Houston Police Officers' Association, $100 to SPJST Lodge 130 Dallas and $100 for an advertisement in the Czech Day brochure. ''The Abused Children Committee has learned of a need existing for an older group of people in the Houston area. This need is one that also deserves our attention and help. There are a number of indigent people who are in need of eye - glasses but without the funds to buy eye - glasses.

The Abused. Children Committee will distribute any old eye - glasses that you might turn in to the lodge office.

It's surprising to learn that what might be one man's junk is another man's treasure.

When I looked in the desk drawers around my house I was surprised to find six pairs of old eye - glasses that Rita and I had long since outgrown.

Why not look around the house for some old eye - glasses that are no longer needed and feel better for having helped someone in need.

133 To Meet August 17th

San Antonio Lodge No. 133 is scheduled to have their monthly meeting on August 17th at the Activity Hall, 1314 Fair Avenue. We urge all members to consider making the meeting because we have a lot of unfinished work to be done. We hope to see some of our members who we haven't seen for some time. Make it a point to be there on August 17th. The meetings are always very interesting; they are not prolonged, refreshments are always served, and a games party follows. We hope that all officers will be on board.

We want to wish our President Anthony Trilicek a speedy recovery who had a heart operation. We miss you very much but we are sure that you will have a full recovery.

Brother Joe Styrk was hospitalized twice in the last month; a speedy recovery to you, Joe and do come see us as soon as you feel better.

At the last meeting Vice President William Mares held the meeting which was very constructive.

Sister Marcella Kleprlik, our anniversary chairman, reported that Brother Frank and Sister Viola Fajkus celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. A beautiful corsage was pinned on Viola. We all hope them many more blessed years together.

We also wish Sister Miloslavka Phelps, who celebrated her birthday, a happy birthday, Mila,from all of us!

There will be information on the forthcoming Domino Tournament.

To all the members of Lodge No. 133, San Antonio, the date of the Domino Playoff for the "42" game and the "Straight" domino game has been set for August 22nd at 7 p.m. in the Gevers Hall located at the St. Margaret's Mary Church (the smaller hall at the church grounds, facing Gevers Street), 1314 Fair Avenue.

Our July meeting was held on July 15 at 7:30 p.m. with President Louis Grochoske calling the meeting to order and also leading us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The reports were approved as read and all correspondence items were read.

It was our pleasure to have Mydell Grochoske's mother, Mary Wasek, as our visitor, also was appropriate for our visitor to win the door prize.

Our August meeting will be held on Sunday the 17th at 2:30 p.m. After the meeting we will have a social hour and then a dinner. Ladies are asked to bring a salad or dessert.

Congratulations to Leo and Oleta Keating because they are grandparents of a lovely grandson, his name is Zackary David Thompson born on July 24th at 12:45 a.m. weighing 7 pounds and was 20 inches long. The parents are Mr. and Mrs. M. Thompson.

Sorry we are a little late, but Bill Butler had been in the hospital and had heart surgery, but I hear he is doing real well and is back at work.

We wish to extend our condolences to the family of Kenneth Doucet who passed away in July. Also our deepest sympathy to Angie Hromcik and her family on the loss of her husband, Sammie. He was so well - known for his lovely dancing and he will be missed. Rest in peace.

It was our pleasure, four sisters and two brothers of the Simmank family to attend the 50th wedding anniversary of Albert and Helen Hejl held at the Seaton Star Hall on July 19th. What a lovely party and we enjoyed seeing our cousins and many friends we haven't

seen in many years. The social was great. Then that evening a delicious barbecue dinner was enjoyed by all. At night there was a dance and great music by Jodie Mikula. I would say to Albert and Helen and their children, a party well done. Many more happy years!

Our third anniversary dance was a huge success with a capacity crowd. I heard a comment from Roy West, the Kountry Kickers band leader, that our crowd was the easiest to play to, where they felt more at ease and where they played their best. In turn, we love to dance to his music and enjoy his band.

It works both ways.

At intermission, the East Texas Pine Square Dancers put on a real good square dancing show. Everyone enjoyed that. It is easy to see that our dance attendance gets better and better all the time. Seems like the people are finding out that we can have a good rime with either country tape music or a live band. Our lodge facilities are improving because we are trying to make it more comfortable for all. Our building fund is wide open for donations of material or money. We continue to thank the people who have donated to this cause.

Saturday, August 9th we danced to Eddie Thompson's DJ music. August 29th we will be dancing to the Rolling River western band. I hear that they are real good. Come join us and have a good time. Hosts for this month are Gary and Helen Boyd.

Classes At Westchester Spring Branch Evening School Czech

Registration for the 1986 fall semester classes in Conversational and Grammatical Czech will begin at 9 a.m. on August 18, 1986 through Thursday, August 22nd.

The following week Monday, August 25th through Thursday, August 28th registration hours will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Late registration hours will be 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, September 2nd through Thursday, September 4th.

Schaal under the auspices. of AISD (Alief Independent School District) is again offering a Conversational Czech course right after Labor Day at Hastings High School. Brass Band Has Busy Schedule Seaton

Dear Members and Friends: Some of you may have been wondering what the Seaton Brass Band is up to these days. As it stands, we are going to play for three important events in the coming weeks and months. Some of you may remember that Nick Morris organized our group nine years ago on the occasion of Lodge 47's annual picnic in 1977.

Since that time we have appeared at numerous functions throughout Central Texas for various groups, including a TV appearance and patriotic events. Our emphasis, however, is still on ethnic brass band music, especially Czech. We have both Kmoch and Sousa marches in our library, plus a number of patriotic numbers. Although we do not consider ourselves a dance band, people have taken to the floor during some of our numbers. As it happens with some groups, our numbers have fluctuated and there has always been some turnover, however, the largest turnout of musicians was at Shiner a couple of years ago when we played with 26 musicians. What a sound! We have band directors, music instructors, high school and university students in the group. Everybody enjoys getting together and playing. We want to preserve this style of music because besides the Armed Services this type of music is not heard too often.

Our first "gig" is playing for the 63rd Anniversary of Sefcik Hall in the Seaton Community on Sunday, August 31st. We will be playing for a 2 - hour concert from 2 to 4 p.m. The public is invited and there is no admission charge.

Our second performance will be at Czech Day at the State Fair in Dallas on Sunday afternoon, October 5th.

This is the last day of the extended 3 day celebration. There have already been announcements in the Vestnik about this event and I'm sure that further details will be forthcoming.

The SBB will be playing early,in the afternoon after the conclusion of the activities in the Cotton Bowl. The band will be traveling to Dallas by chartered bus, a 46 - passenger bus.

We estimate that the band members will number approximately 25; this means that there will probably be about 20 seats available to other persons wanting to ride with us. We will not know exactly until the survey is completed of just how many band members (and wives/family members) will be going. Assuming that we fill the bus, the cost per person will be $12.

These extra seats will be on a first -:ome - first - available basis. Anyone interested in going with us on October 5th should let either me or Nick Morris know by September 20th. Our telephone numbers are listed below. As soon as we find out the time of our performance in the Band Shell we will let you know through the Vestnik what time we will be boarding the bus at the Temple Bus Depot. This should be an enjoyable experience! You are welcome to join us.

Our third performance will be at the Music Symposium in Bryan on Sunday, November 16th, in the Brazos Center. You have also been reading about this event in the Vestnik and we feel honored to be a part of it. Watch the Vestnik in the coming weeks for further details. Hope to see you at all or some of these performances. We perform because we enjoy it.

There were no new residents to join the group at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. II in July. Staff members are Cynthia Johnson (dietary), Debi R. Jones (dietary), Linda C. Ray (LVN), Deborah McDonald (NA), and Laura Grudziecki (NA).

Welcome back from Polly Ryan Hospital in Richmond are Marie Bertram, August Leus, Bernice Bradley, Eva Horton, Ida Hanka and from Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton is Ora Westphal.

We are sorry to hear Mary Vacek is hospitalized and Ida Hanka re entered Polly Ryan Hospital in Richmond, Willie Uherek is hospitalized in Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton and Victor Bartosh is hospitalized in the VA Hospital in Houston. We wish them a speedy recovery.

We regret the loss of Marie Bertram.

Marie will be missed by our staff and other residents.

We're sorry to lose Tony Ondracek who was discharged and had gone to the VA Hospital.

The donations given by Mrs. Victor Huff, Willie and Annie Walcik and Mary Buchta are in memory of Bennie Susan for the Activity Fund. Alice Drachenberg donated money for bingo. The SPJST Lodge No. 81 donated money for the residents' Activity Fund. These donations were greatly appreciated.

The senior citizen luncheons given by the Immanuel United Church of Christ and St. Michael's Catholic Church were attended by Tony Ondracek, Virgie Richardson and Annie St avinoha.

Monday afternoon, July 14th, the Hope Lutheran Church of Beasley came to have services and brought cookies and had a social afterwards.

They also brought prizes for bingo.

Everyone enjoyed the afternoon.

Thursday afternoon, July 17th, Elizabeth Miller and Garland Huryta with the Fort Bend Humane Society brought dogs for therapy for the residents. Pictures were also taken with the dogs and residents.

Wednesday afternoon, July 23rd, the Young Adventure Child Care Center came to sing for the residents.

Everyone enjoyed the children.

Thursday evening, July 24th, Larry Ognoski, Fred Gerke and George Lolley provided music and singing for the residents. Everyone had a great time.

The KCs came to play bingo Tuesday evening, July 29th with the residents. The residents enjoyed the bingo and visiting with the ones present.

"Happy Birthdays" for the month of July were residents Annabelle Schoppe, Ladik Sabrsula, Mary Ann Spezia, Bernice Bradley and Edmund Brandl; and staff members Martha Marx, Erma Galetka, Dorothy Faniel, Catherine Lukasik, Jeanette Darley and Rosa Garza.

The birthday party, which was held Friday, July 25th, included Louis Vacek entertaining with the accordian and the piano and singing "Happy Birthday." The "A" Flower and Gift Shop provided corsages and boutonnieres. The Hope Lutheran Church of Beasley provided the cakes.

Lydia Hortmon brought cake and Mrs. Frank Brandl brought a birthday cake. Volunteers Melva Hastings, Lydia Hortmon, Edith Schulz and Frances Muzny served the punch, coffee, cake and ice cream to all. After the party, a drawing was held for the poodle named Snowball. A resident, Cleo Schmerber was the lucky winner.

The afternoon was enjoyed by everyone.

Thanks to all denomination of churches in the area that give services and communion and to the volunteers who do services in the home to the residents for the month of July.

If you are a contestant in anything, be sure that you register in time or are in line before registration time is over.

We are asking that everyone cooperate because the people in charge of registration must then move on to other jobs. (The schedule for this day found below).

Please do not put your craft in the display area until after you register. If you have a large craft or several crafts to enter, get your relatives or friends to help you ahead of time. We will again have large signs designating the various craft areas.

This is a nice spacious facility and we believe all of you will like it. The directions to the Mayborn Convention Center are as follows: Coming from the south on IH - 35, take Exit 303 (Industrial Blvd. sign) and watch for Convention Center signs. Coming from the north on IH - 35, take Exit 303 (Industrial Blvd. - North 3rd Street sign) and watch for Convention Center signs.

There are motels in the Temple area offering nice accommodations if you plan to stay overnight either before or

after the State YAD. We are starting a little earlier this year and hope to be able to finish by 7:30 p.m. or as soon thereafter as ,-)ossible so that people needing to travel a distance will not be inconvenienced. You will also notice that the lunch hour overlaps some of the activities. This is regrettable, but there are many phases to cover and, as stated, we hope to be able to finish at a reasonable time. A change in the schedule this year is the presentation of awards throughout the day instead of the presentation all at one time. I hope this will make for a more pleasant day.

Box Youth Go To Schlitterbahn

The 12 dnd up age group from Lodge 13 enjoyed a day of water and fun when they went to the Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels.

There were numerous amounts of water rides from tubes to slides. The water felt really good on the hot day of July 30th.

We then stopped and ate supper at McDonald's. Everyone had a fun day!

Dear Readers, What a summer: In July we had District II YAD at our lodge. Donald Tomastik, Kevin Brown and Ronnie Rose won first places and will compete in State YAD on August 17th at Temple in the Frank Mayborn Convention Center.

On July 19th twenty - four members and eight adults went to Schlitterbahn in New Braunfels. We wore ourselves out on the slides and stairs.

Eleven (11) members survived the heat at camp the last week in July; some even stayed up all night one night. Gloria came Sunday and sat on

top bunk. Swimming and baseball were fun plus canoeing, too. I hope to go again next year.

Lodge

The District III camp at Val Verde was held July 21st to 24th. It was very exciting. We had horseback riding, archery, swimming, arts and crafts, canoeing and parties. My favorite was swimming. In arts and crafts we made wreaths and Christmas ornaments. In canoeing we went around the river. It was my first time to go canoeing. I got to paddle. At horseback riding I went on a trail. At archery I shot a bullseye.

We had flag ceremony to start off the day before breakfast. Our meals were served in the Mess Hall.

On the last night at camp, we had a cookout and we ate hamburgers for supper. Later we did skits. It was fun.

I cannot wait until next year to go to camp.

District I YAD was held on July 27, 1986. It was hosted by our Lodge 188, Centerville. These are the results for each category from our lodge: The first age group we placed in was 10 - 12. Our participant was Tina Schwab. She placed first in Foods and second in Sewing.

For the 13 - 14 category, there were two participants. Lisa Aghaei won second in Foods and Nika White won second in Sewing.

For the 15 - 17 category, there were a few participants. Brad Kornegay won first in Handicrafts with his "Alamo."

Kristy Smith won second in Pictorial Arts. Sidney Matthews won second in the Foods category.

Point awards were awarded to the following Juniors: 1st - Tina Schwab, 2nd - Jennifer Ackley, 3rd - Emily Mallard, 4th - Mae Easterling. Teens: 1st - Lisa Aghaei, 2nd - Brad Kornegay, 3rd - Dana Dixon, 4th Nika White, 5th - Sidney Matthews.

I am Mary Krivanek and I am 15 years old. I belong to the Lodge No. 92 Youth Club in Fort Worth. I would like to report on our last meeting which was held on July 13, 1986. We held elections of youth officers. USA Diving Champion Kent Ferguson with Marian Kadlecek.

This summer, Houston opened its doors to the nation's premier amateur sports event, the U.S. Olympic Festival '86. Houston is proud to have been chosen as the host city -- where America's world - class athletes were treated to a truly world - class city.

With 34 different sports and 4,000 participants, spectators saw many of the past 1984 Olympic medal winners, as well as prospective members of the 1988 Olympic teams to compete in Calgary and Seoul, South Korea.

In the accompanying photo is Lodge 88 member Marian Kadlecek with Bronze Medalist of the Men's Springboard Diving Championship, Kent Ferguson. Kent is presently training in Boca Raton, Florida in hopes of landing a berth on the 1988 Olympic Team.

The two became acquainted during the festival while Marian was selected the Athletic Hospitality Director of The Woodlands which hosted diving, swimming, canoe/kayak, rowing, and modern pentathlon. Marian was responsible for the training and supervising of 60 volunteers, who, in turn, had the task of making 540 athletes "feel more at home."

During the two weeks Marian was lodged at The Woodlands, she logged in 156 volunteer hours which will be credited to Lodge 88's Benevolent Committee.
