The SPJST (Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas) ranks in the 27th place in the United States of the Leading Fraternal Societies by Life Insurance in Force as of December 31, 1985.

July 4th marked the lOOth anniversary of the Statue of Liberty, and Our Fair Lady was decked out in new finery for the festive occasion. For several years workmen have been rebuilding and refurbishing the statue which greeted the forefathers of millions of fraternalists as the immigrants poured into the new world through Ellis Island.

Official rededication ceremonies will be held on October 28th this year to commemorate her dedication on October 28! 1886. But meanwhile Americans took advantage of this unique opportunity to make July 4, 1986 the biggest Fourth of July celebration in history.

The National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) headquarters office reports that the members of 62 fraternal benefit societies and seven State Fraternal Congresses raised money for refurbishing/rebuilding the Statue of Liberty. As of May 1, 1986, they had raised over 1.5 million for an average of 13.8 cents per member.

Societies which made sizable cash contributions, in relation to their size, are to be congratulated. But in our opinion, those deserving the most heartfelt kudos are the societies which organized effective drives to get contributions from their individual members. Giving money to save the Statue of Liberty should be something each of us individually feels is a worthwhile charitable contribution. It is one way to express our appreciation for our good fortune of living in America -- a country which, for all its faults, is still one in which millions of people throughout the world would be very happy to live. Although we live in a world ot computers and telecommunications, the ability to write well remains an invaluable skill.

Many well - educated people are intimidated when they have to write something, whether it 's a report or simply a letter. They needn't be. To be a great writer may require special talents. But most people can master the skills required to communicate clearly in writing if they learn basic rules of structure and organization.

A handful of excellent books are

devoted to writing well. "The Elements of Style" by William Strunk, Jr., and E.B. White, is a classic summary of the basic rules of usage and composition. "On Writing Well"

by William Zinsser, says the two cardinal virtues of writing are clarity and simplicity. "How to Write", a new book by Herbert and Jill Meyer, divides the writing process into three stages -- organization, turning out a first draft and polishing. The steps, "when done in the correct order and with reasonable attention to detail, just about guarantee a decent and acceptable result."

For starters, be dear about the writing task facing you. Is it a brochure, a progress report, a letter of complaint? Then list the points you wish to make. Finally, gather all the supporting facts, such as names and dates. Review your notes, office files and other research material.

Before you begin to write, figure out your theme -- a few words or sentences that summarize what you want to say.

In an outline, organize the points you've set down. Flesh them out, section by section, and you will be able to come up with a first draft.

After you have a complete version on paper, go over it line by line.

Correct mistakes and, where necessary, rewrite. Make sure your grammar is correct. One way to catch grammatical errors is to read passages out loud. If something sounds wrong, it could be an error. Most of the books mentioned above are available in bookstores.

*** Consumers who are looking for a good buy in an automobile but don't like to do a lot of comparison shopping are turning increasingly to car - buying services in order to save big dollars.

Car - buying services, also known as auto brokers, provide dealer - price information to car buyers so they can negotiate a better deal. Often marketed through auto clubs, credit unions and trade associations, these services usually charge $7 to $20 per inquiry. And if you'd rather not do any negotiating, the car - buying service will usually be able to refer you to a dealer who will sell you the car you want at somewhere between $50 and $500 over cost.

Take the case of a 4 - door Buick Skylark Limited with automatic transmission, air - conditioning, AM FM stereo radio, tinted glass and rear window defogger. This car's list price is $12, 177, but the dealer's cost is only $10,923. You can contact a dealer who will sell you the car for only $50 over cost for a savings of $1,204. Buying services handle imports as well as domestic models.

Car - buying services may be unnecessary for those buyers who are already shrewd negotiators.

In addition, car - pricing information on lots of models is widely available in books such as "Edmund's New Car Prices" and in magazines such as ''Consumer Reports.''

Consumers who use buying services must decide first what kind of cars and options they want, and that requires some shopping around. A buying service will sometimes recommend an out - of - town dealer and will arrange for the car to be delivered to you for an extra $200 or so. If that occurs, be sure to learn how to properly service the car under warranty. If you buy a car without a dealer nearby, you will have to carefully document your car's servicing record to protect the warranty.

The next meeting will be held on August 14th at 8 p.m.

Lodge 29 To Hold Tournament Taylor SPJST Lodge No. 29 held its regular monthly meeting on Friday, July 11th at 7:30 p.m. with Edwin Adamek presiding at the meeting.

We had roll call of officers and the secretary's report, treasurer's report and the Property Committee report.

Donna P.asemann gave the quarterly report.

Correspondence was read about the Westfest celebration in August, also reported was the "42" and straight domino tournaments; if no conflict, our tournament will be held on August 16th.

Youth Leader Donna Steger gave her report; she said 65 members went to New Braunfels and that camp was coming up.

New members are Jamie Elizabeth Klima, Martha Elizabeth Palla, Janice Lynn Fretwell, Byron Joseph Palla and Franklin Schesionger.

Our next meeting will be on Sunday, August 10th. I hope to see you all then.

Lodge 84 House Committee News Dear Members: It has been a long time since I sent in news from the House Committee.

The new roof was completed in Mav and next the bill came. Special thanks go to several members who loaned the lodge $10,800 interest free to pay the roof bill, and now special thanks are in order to many of our members who are sending in donations with their lodge dues. All this will help 搂reatl~.

Our May mishap. Do you remember the brown shingle overhang across the entire front of the lodge? It's called a mansard roof. Half ofit fell competely off. We had to hire a contractor to take down the other part, so now I am trying to get several bids to redecorate the front, but with lighter type of material.

The parking lot grounds were cleaned and mowed weekly by myself and my wife, Sister Evelyn. The front shrubs are being cared for by Brother Randy and Sister Rose Scott. They do look nice, thanks.

Last week we came to the meeting and discovered that the kitchen refrigerator was out again. Recently it was repaired, but I guess it just saw its days. The officers decided to replace it, so I shopped around to get the best buy for the lodge's use; now the lodge has a beautiful new refrigerator, which I picked up and installed.

In ending this letter, I would like to add that I appreciate all the help received from the officers and committees this year.

We would like to invite all of you to our dances. On August 16th the Czech Harvesters will play and September 6th the Czech Mates will play. The Lodge 84 Czech Fest is set for September 14th with a free dance from 4 to 8 p.m. You all come.

Lodge 88, Houston News The Entertainment Committee, under the leadership of Chairman Harley Cox, has booked some very good bands for the month of August.

In this heat and high humidity we're having, there will be no better place to go than to our Chandelier Ballroom.

It's nice and cool there and is newly painted. This week a new floor is being laid under the tables on each side. Our Friday country /western dance on August 15th features The Texas Brew.

Franklin and Almedia Bravenec are grandparents, again. David Lee born to Joan and David Coffey on July 14th~ weighed 9 pounds and was almost 23 inches long. Waiting at home to welcome little brother were his sisters Lisa and Jennifer.

Tony Hejl, mother of Della Miksch, broke her hip at the nursing home in Taylor where she resides. Della is busy going back and forth but reports her mother is doing fairly good after the surgery.

Sister Ida Hanka is back in Poly Ryan Hospital. No diagnosis has been given at this time and Grandma Hanka is in fair condition.

Sister Florene Taake had shoulder surgery for a rotor cuf tear due to an auto accident in April. She is recuperating slowly at home and is still very uncomfortable.

Our next monthly lodge meeting is August 11th at 7:30 p.m. After a short business meeting, refreshments will be served.

We're having all kinds of good vibes about the swimming pool and the "free to the members" swim policy.

Managers Mike and Kathy Trefel have everything under control out there and are doing a superb job.

Lodge 154 Will Not _ Meet In August Dear Members and Friends: Just a reminder that there will be NO meeting August 10th, Brother Joe and Sister Carrie Milan joined the youth club campers, namely, Josh Milan, Chris Simek, Michael Mason, Kathi Brown, Ky Cleveland, Tressie Jean Sanders and Blaine Mason, along with Sisters

Carolyn Cleveland and Carol Sanders.

They enjoyed having lunch with the youth. En route home they visited the Texas Safari in Clifton, Texas. They spent the night in Hillsboro, stopping in West to have lunch at Sulak's Cafe.

Friday on their arrival to Ft. Worth, they were taken to the Omni Theatre.

They all reported a wonderful time. . Brother Bobby Cleveland had to fly home ahead of schedule from Jamaica and was sent right to the hospital for surgery. We are happy to report he is doing well. Sister Patti Gage had surgery yesterday and we wish her a speedy recovery. We also extend our get well wishes to Sister Millie Wruble of Lodge 9.2. I hear she may go home from the hospital today.

Our get well wishes for Sister Mary Hale. She was in a freak accident at Winn - Dixie Grocery Store.

We extend our sincere sympathy to Angie Hromcik on the loss of her husband. May he rest in peace.

Mary Picha has been moved to the Four Seasons Nursing Center at 7625 Glenview Drive, Ft. Worth, Texas 76118. Brother Frank said she isn't improving much. One of our young members, Kira Christopher, was also in the hospital and is now at home recuperating. Get well soon, Kira! She is the granddaughter of Brother Leon and Sister Agnes Chandler.

We extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Sister Robbie Jenkins.

She passed away on July 14th. May she rest in peace.

I just talked to Sister Merle Kovar and she talked to Brother Frank this morning and if all goes on schedule he will be home . from Czechoslovakia Friday night. He said he thinks he has put on a few pounds. (Was treated too well!)

Sister Henrietta Milan and son, Talon, arrived home safely yesterday after attending the wedding of Bruce and Vera Richards in Summerland, B.C. Brother Talon was honored giving the bride away. They also enjoyed a nice visit with their aunt and cousin from Czechoslovakia and cousin from Vancouver, B.C. They reported the garden wedding was beautiful and the weather was much cooler. They also visited the World Fair. Brother Jerry Milan and son, Rome, are in Omaha, Nebraska teaching for a week, so they missed the wedding.

We are in need of rain badly and don't see any relief in sight.

Our next meeting will be on Sunday, September 14th.

Lodge 183, Mid-Cities Meeting Dear Members: On Sunday, July 27th the officers and concerned members had a meeting at the lodge to discuss the current situation and how to improve bingo, also better ways to advertise to· let more people know about our bingo, and ways to cut costs. Several good ideas were discussed and the officers will consider them and try the ones they consider the best for the lodge.

There also were two bids put in to manage the bar and kitchen and the officers will consider which will be the best.

Remember August 11th at 7 p.m. at the lodge hall will be monthly meeting.

There will be somethings that need to be voted on, so be there and have your vote counted. Come a little early for the meal and social before the meeting.

Some more ways to tell if you are growing old: You're 17 around the neck, 42 around the waist, and 96 around the golf course. You stop looking foward to your next birthday.

The Czechs Of Texas: A Living Heritage What: The Czechs of Texas: A Living Heritage. An exhibit.

When: September 26 - October 26, 1986 Where: Centennial Building, Fair Park, Dallas, Texas The American - Czech Culture Society is preparing an exhibit for the State Fair of Texas entitled "The Czechs of Texas: A Living Heritage."

This exhibit, which will coincide with the Texas Czech State Fair Sesquicentennial Celebration at the Cotton Bowl and other locations throughout Dallas on October 3, 4 and 5, 1986, will illustrate the history and cultural heritage of the large Czech population of Texas.

Czech immigrants, most of whom emigrated from the province of Moravia in

central modern - day Czechoslovakia, began pouring into Texas in the middle 19th century. They brought with them a proud history and rich cultural heritage which they have preserved with remarkable persistance. The Czechs of Texas, who make up about 5 percent of the state's population, have made numerous contributions to Texas.

The Czechs of Texas: A Living Heritage Is inspired in part by a similar exhibit at the State Fair during the centennial celebration of 1936. The 1936 Czech exhibit in Dallas grew from a grass - roots effort among the rural Czech Moravian farming communities of central Texas. Several of the items from the 1936 exhibit will be included in the present exhibit. The Czechs of Texas: A Living Heritage will depict the story of pioneer Czech settlers in Texas, cultural contributions and the role of the Czech language in the state. Displays will feature examples of folk arts and the history of this group's organizations, churches and schools will be illustrated.

The exhibit will open to the public on September 26, 1986 and will run through October 26th. The exhibit will be located in the Centennial Building at Fair Park in Dallas. There will be no admission charge for viewing this exhibit, which is being financed by the American - Czech Culture Society and organized under the direction of Mrs. Barbara Dybala of the Czech Club in Dallas. Contributions towards the financing of this project are· needed and can be sent tÓ the American Czech Culture Society to the address below. Those persons contributing a sum larger than $10 will be acknowledged in the publications to be issued for the occasion by the American - Czech Culture Society.

Organizers hope that this exhibit, which will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of visitors, will acquaint other Texans with what is one of their state's most colorful and vibrant ethnic heritages.

The symposium is one of a series of activities in Dallas on October 3, 4 and 5, 1986, which are sponsored by the Czechs of Texas and which are expected to draw visitors from throughout the United States.

From the time of the early European colonization of Texas, through Texas' War for Independence and up through modem times, Czechs have made important contributions to their state.

The past decade has witnessed a rebirth in interest in this group's language, history and culture.

Speakers at the symposium will include

various authorities on the Czech Moravian people of Texas, a group which numbers today in the hundreds of thousands.

The symposium will open on Friday, October 3rd at 3 p.m. at SPJST Lodge No. 84 on 2625 Floyd Street in Dallas.

A social will follow the conclusion of the presentations at 6 p .m.

Texas Czech History Symposium Czech - Americans from throughout the United States are expected to gather in Dallas, Texas on October 3, 4 and 5, 1986 to honor the Czech Moravian community of Texas and celebrate the sesquicentennial anniversary of Texas' Independence.

Texans of. Czech descent comprise a large segment of the state's population.

The Czech language, brought to Texas by 19th century immigrants, remains the third most widely - spoken language in the state.

Organizers expect that this event, which will be a once - in - a - lifetime celebration for many, will be a gathering place for representatives of the entire Czech - Moravian population of Texas.

Various programs and entertainments, a banquet, a symposium devoted . to historical subjects, a special bus tour of Dallas, polka dances and other activities have been planned foi October 3rd and 4th. The celebratior. will climax on Sunday, October 5th with programs in the Cotton Bowl and at the state fairgrounds in Dallas. An exhibition illustrating the history and cultural heritage of Czech Texans is scheduled to open at the State Fair on September 26th and run for 31 days.

The participation of groups and individuals from throughout the United States is needed to insure the success of this celebration. Particularly ambitious is the organizers' goal of filling the Cotton Bowl with participants and spectators. The Cotton Bowl programs will showcase several aspects of this group's colorful cultural heritage: 1. Dancing of the Beseda, the national dance of Czechoslovakia: of 2. . Choral singing Czechoslovakian folk songs; 3. Choreographed dancing and singing by children and youth groups; 4. A gymnastic exhibition similar to the gigantic Spartakiada exhibitions of Czechoslovakia by gymnasts of the Sokol organizations.

It is expected that each of the numerous Czech Moravian communities in Texas will be represented in the Cotton Bowl program by Beseda dancers and other

participants.

Instructions and information about each of these activities are available by writing to the American - Czech Culture Society.

Time still remains for interested groups to obtain instruction materials and information about participating in the programs. Czech Class At Alief Alief Evening School under the auspices of AISD (Alief Independent School District) is again offering a Conversational Czech course right after Labor Day at Hastings High School. Czech The Festival The annual Kolach Festival is just 10 weeks away. Over 5,000 brochures have been distributed on the event; entry forms are flooding in for the quality arts and crafts show; performers from across Texas are telephoning about joining in the continuous entertainment; the Ceske Kolache Bake Shoppe has limited space left; the Quilt Show promises to be a breathtaking display; the Czech mini - museum will occupy most of the courthouse; a Czech moviehouse will be added this year and dozens of artisian demonstrations are planned.

The Kolach Festival, scheduled for Saturday, September 13th from 8 a.m. until dark will cover the square in downtown Caldwell and spill over into the adjoining streets and businesses.

Bakers have competed for two years to win the coveted title of Grand Champion Kolache Baker of Burleson County. Now, by statewide demand, the bake show will open two categories: A County Champion and a State Champion! The Kolache Bake Off competition which will be in the Caldwell Senior Center, 201 W. Buck Street, has grown to such great size, now requires a separate building, and celebrity judges are coming to cast their votes for the absolutely best kolache. Jim Oliver, Budget Director for the State of Texas, will return to his native Caldwell to serve as a judge along with Griff Smith of Texas Highways, Mari Schnell of Travel Log, State Representative L.B. Kubiak and many other celebrities who have a fondness for kolache.

The Burleson County Opry is tuning up for a special performance at the conclusion of the day's events.

People's National Bank will host a grand Antique Automobile Show on the parking lot, Caldwell National Bank plans & "Czech - Book" Store and Burleson County Savings Association is posting a billboard highlighting the festival.

Halamícek Reunion Held ln July The descendants of John M. and Anna (Baron) Halamicek held their family reunion on July 19, 1986 at Paradise Point Park, Tow, Texas.

Hosts and hostesses were the wife and children of the late Paul B. Halamicek Sr., Emma Halamicek of San Angelo, Paul Jr., and Raye Halamicek of Del Rio, Lynn and Maxine Halamicek of Brownfield, Peggy and Buddy Kinsey of Del Rio, and Kay and Doyland Lewis of San Angelo.

Attending the reunion were 220 relatives from the families of Dr. John A. Halamicek, William A. Halamicek, Julia Havlik, Annie Kopecky, Albina Hilsher, Olga Cordes, Dr. Henry O. Halamicek, Ed Halamicek, Paul B. Halamicek Sr., Vlasta Teplicek, Bertha Lancaster and Ben Halamicek.

These family members came from as far away as South Carolina, Oklahoma, Minnesota and California with the rest being from various parts of Texas.

John M. Halamicek came from Moravia, Czechoslovakia, the town of

Roznov, with his father and sister at the age of 12. Anna Baron, also from Moravia, married John M. in 1882.

They started, their business at Roznov, Fayette County, Texas, and reared their 12 children, six sons and six daughters.

The next reunion will be held in 1988 at Fayette County, Texas.

From The Youth Leaders Lodge 142 Youth Prepares For YAD Dear Readers, The youth club of Lodge 142 in Houston held their monthly meeting on Wednesday, July 23, 1986 with a very good attendance.

We have one new member Amanda Hermis.

We discussed to see if everyone is finishing up on their YAD project, which was scheduled for August 3rd.

We looked forward to it.

We decided to have, as our activity of the month, to go play Putt - Putt Golf at Malibu Castle on Tuesday, July 29th at 7 p.m.

After our next adult meeting on August 10th, we will have a cake sale.

The meeting adjourned and we all went to eat pizza. See you at our next meeting.

Letters From The Youth Lodge 84 Youth Attend Camp Dear Readers, District III camp was held at Val Verde from July 21st through 24th.

The campers all had a great time with a variety of activities including swimming, canoeing, horseback riding, crafts and archery.

There were parties every night with different activities such as a wacky beauty contest, a scavanger hunt, volleyball games, a cookout by the lake with a tug of war game, obstacle course, skits and, of course, swimming every night.

There were a lot of new faces and many old ones who came to enjoy camp year ~ after - year.

Thanks to the leaders, counselors and staff. Everyone had a very enjoyable experience.

Lodge 13 Youth Club Holds Meeting The last monthly meeting of the Dime Box Youth Club was held on Thursday, July 24th at 7 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President Susan Spacek and Doris Ford led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Our Secretary, Trudy Krenek then called the roll and read the minutes of our last meeting.

The treasurer's report was then given by our Treasurer, Jennifer Gold.

The meeting was turned over to our Youth Leader, Doris Ford. We discussed where we would go this summer for a trip. The members who are 13 years old or older, Seniors, will go to the Schliterbahn in New Braunfels. The members who are 12 years old or younger, Juniors, will either go to Pooh 's Park in Bryan or to a zoo in San Antonio or Houston.

We then decided on a work schedule for the dunking stand at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church bazaar on Sunday, July 27th. The meeting was then adjourned.

After the meeting, the Seniors painted the dunking stand and the Juniors played games. We then ate watermelon and snacks.

On July 27th we helped the adults with our Polka Festival. We all helped in the kitchen and also ran our yearly project. We gave away a lot of nice prizes and made money for our club for projects and our charity work.

We are looking forward to seeing you all at State Y AD on August 17th, 1986!

Lodge 13 YC Holds Outdoor Meeting

We, the Resolution Committee of SP JST Lodge No. 80 in Holland, Texas, wish to express our sympathy, on behalf of our entire membership, to the family of ELIZABETH SHANNON, who passed away on July 14, 1986 in a Temple hospital.

Sister Shannon, who was 38 years old, was born in Taylor, to Mr. and Mrs. Ira Morris of Holland. She was the owner of a Holland beauty shop.

Survivors are her husband, Paul Shannon of Holland; one son, Sammy Morris of Holland; one daughter, Tammy Morris of Holland; her parents, Ira and Claudia Morris of Holland; two brothers, Phillip Morris of Holland and Jackie Morris of Houston.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 17th at the First Baptist Church of Holland with the Rev. Jay Thomas officiating.

May our departed sister rest in eternal peace and may her memory live among us forever.

Treasurer Jennifer Gold then gave the treasurer's report.

Under new business we decided to go to New Braunfels to the Schlitterbahn. The age group would be 12 and up; 11 and under will go to Pooh's Park in Bryan or either to the zoo. A date has not been set yet.

We also discussed the shifts for the dunking stand at the bazaar. They are as follows -- 12:30 p.m. - set up -足 Keith Spitzenberger and Trudy Krenek; 1 :00 - 2:00 -- Trudy and Keith; 2:00 - 3:00 -- Jennifer Gold, Susan Spacek; 3:00 - 4:00 -- Mike Whitsel, Eric Fritz; 4:00 - 5:00 -- Kurt Pharis, Scott Whitsel. We decided to have 3 balls for 50 cents and 7 balls for $1.

Trudy and Susan will be in charge of the signs.

The meeting adjourned and everyone chipped in and helped paint the dunking stand. We then enjoyed watermelon, soda, chips and dips.

Jessica passed away on July 8, 1986 at her family's home, Route 1, Thorndale, Texas.

She was a student at St. Paul Lutheran School in Thorndale.

Services were held Thursday, July 10th from the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Thorndale with the Rev. Vernon M. Appel officiating. Burial "" was in the Lacklin Cemetery under the ., direction of the Condra Funeral Home of Taylor.

Expression Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee ot SPJST Lodge No. 80 in Holland, Texas, wish to express our sympathy, on behalf of our entire membership, to the family of ANNIE P. SUMBERA, who passed away on July 24, 1986 at the age of 98, in a Holland nursing home.

Sister Sumbera was born in Moravia, Czechoslovakia. At the age of four, she came to the United States and made her home in the Holland area, where she lived most of her adult life.

Sister Sumbera was a member of the S.S. Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church in Granger and was a housewife. She was preceded in death by her husband.

Sister Sumbera had been a member of the SP JST since August 3, 1913.

Survivors are three sons, William Sumbera of Holland and Johnny Sumbera and Joe Sumbera, both of Dickerson; three daughters, Alice Lee of Salado, Mary Parkhill of Holland and Celestine Sumbera of Cleveland; one stepson, Emil Sumbera of Austin; two stepdaughters, Martha Byrd of San Antonio and Alma Boughey of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three sisters, Anita Lyons of Temple, Lillian Cooper of San Antonio and Mary Cervenka of Waco; 10 grandchildren and 8 great - grandchildren.

Services for Sister Sumbera were at 2 p.m. on July 26th at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Temple.

Features Czech Music In Texas: A Sesquicentennial Symposium To Be Held November 14 - 16, 1986 The Brazos Center In Bryan, Texas "Co Cech, to muzikant" The program begins at 7:30 p.m.

Friday evening, with a dance by the well - known Texas Czech band The Vrazels and ends Sunday night with a dance by the popular Jodie Mikula Orchestra.

On Saturday evening, ballroom dancing and a folk music and dance performance will be provided by the cymbal orchestra BURCACI and the dance ensemble VLCNOVJAN, both from the Uherske Hradiste area of southeastern Moravia.

Two informative sessions allowing the discussion of Czech Heritage in Texas. The symposium entitled "The Movement of Czechs Across Texas" will feature three informative speakers leading an exciting session of interesting talk and information exchange. The Saturday workshop will concern itself with the discussion of Czech family genealogy. An informal session also for the free movement of ideas and information exchange.

A nominal charge will be incurred for each session. Information sheets and books will be available for purchase at the sessions.

Relax with friends, old and new, over a

delicious meal. Then dance the hours away with a Czech dance.

Dinner will be served between 6:30 and 8:30 p.m. The dance will be held from 8:30 p.m. and 12:30 a.m. Both activities will be at the Catholic Czech Club, 4930 Military Parkway.

Texas Czech Exhibit An exhibition of Czech history and artifacts in an informative display arena. See how the Czechs of Texas have progressed through the passing of time.

Display is located in the Centennial Building on the State Fairgrounds. The exhibition will be open for the duration of the Texas Sesquicentennial Fair September 26th through October 26th.

Admission to the fairgrounds allows admission to the exhibit.

Free Tuition For Czech Language Students At UT The Czech Ex - Students Association of Texas (CESAT) announces an attractive offer to incoming freshman at the University of Texas - Austin to enroll in Czech language courses which are available in the University curriculum.

Items Of Interest What's Good & Good For You Every Day & May Help Reduce Your Cancer Risk More fresh vegetables -- have at least two servings, about Yi cup daily, especially dark green or yellow varieties.

More fresh fruits -- have them at least three times a day. Suggestions: Orange juice at breakfast, Yi grapefruit at lunch, apple at dinner, or as a snack.

More fiber -- have at least one daily serving of high - fiber cereal; include generous amounts of whole grain bread or muffins, beans and peas in your diet.

Tak Všelicos ,Anežka Houdková Tak místo toho, aby časy se zlepšily, přece zas jistých místech je to zlé. Na příklad dne 5. srpna bude asi 182 ob­ chodních majetku ztraceno, neboť ma­ ji strašně velké dluhy a nemohou je zaplatit. Asi 182 rozdílných maietků přijde do jiných ruk (čili údělají úpadek) 'a mnoho těch apartmentních budov (asi 74 jich) bude míti nového majitele. Dluhu je na tom všem asi více jak 173 milionu dolaru. Také 55 kusu prázdného pozemku na kterém je 116 milionu dluhu, a 14 obchodních budov také dluží více jak 99 milionu dolaru, též 4 tak zvané části kde se hodně prodává různé zboží (shopping centers) s 29 milionu dluhu a čtyři hotely a motely více jak 19 milionu dluhu. Tak situace bude jistě kritická neboť hodně peněz je v tom zasaženo.

Náš guvernér prohlásil, že bude nut­ no míti zvláštní zasedání legislatury aby se rozhodlo o tom, co se má stát, jelikož bude nutno propustit prý asi 19 tisíc státních zaměstnanců, aby se mohlo ušetřit peněz které jsou potřebné. Stát prý potřebuje nutně sehnat potřebné částky peněz-- ale kde? Prý bude nutno šetřit a neutrácet tolik peněz na některé věci. Někteří chtí zvýšit daně, ale mnoho druhých je velice moc proti tomu, že daní už je dosti. Tak jaké to bude? Je to opravdu velmi zlé nyní, že ano?

Nyní též v těch jiho-východních státech je takové sucho, že tamní farmáři mají velmi špatné úrody a jestli se jim nějak nepomůže, tak přijdou o všechno. Nemají čím krmit dobytek a spolehají se na seno od farmářů ze severu. Ještě ti kteří nemají dluhy na jejich farmách, tak to mají dosti dobré, ale ti kteří dluhuji na farmy a nemohou platit to, tak tem to špatně dopadne. Už prý mnozí museli prodat dobytek aby o ně nepřišli a zas ti kteří pěstovali kuřata, tak těm pošlo tisíce a tisíce a nemají nic. Ti co jindy mají hodně ovoce a zeleniny na prodej, tak jsou u konce. 6. srpna-1986 Karoliny, též Georgia, Alabama a Virginia jsou na tom zle. Jak pak to dopadne pro ně? Už mnohé státy na severu pomáhají se senem prozatím, ale jak to bude dále se neví. Náš presi­ dent slíbil pomoci a tak snad se přece něco udělá pro ně-- doufáme!

V tom městě Detroit v Michiganu měli 10 dní stávku těch městkých zaměstnanců-. municipálních a městkých, a bylo celkem prý asi 12 tisíc a tak se konečně prý trochu dohodli a šli zpět pracovat. Ti zaměstnanci kteří sbírají smeti a odpadky byli velmi potřební, neboť za ty dni měli pak moc práce aby vše odvezli co se nashromáždilo za ten čas. V takovém velkém městě je opravdu hodně práce a dělníci jsou potřební. Snad to tedy dobře dopadne.

Teď je takové sucho, že mnohé města poblíže Dallasu už šetří vodu a mnohé už udělali zákon, že muže se, zalévat jen málo v jistých hodinách.

My zde ještě nemáme zákon, který by nam zakazoval užívání vody, ale možná, že na to dojde též, jestli brzy nám nezaprší. Někteří už začali šetřit sami, jelikož vědí, jak by to bylo bez vody. Nejhorší je to kdy vypukne oheň a na to jistě je potřeba hodně vody.

Někde začali vrtat studny ale neměli moc štěstí. Snad přijde dešť brzy-­ aspoň doufáme, že ano?

Také jsem se dověděla smutnou zprávu,· že v Ennis, Tx. zemřela kra­ janka pí. Žofie Krajčová, která prý za­ jela k síni Knights of Columbus a když vylézala z auta, tak snad utrpěla srdeční záchvat a byla prýč. To jistě překvapilo její příbuzné a přátelé.

Měla jsem jí ráda a její maminka byla rozená Mary Patřilová a byla mt maminky sestřenice. Tedy už v krátké době jsme ztratili dvá bratrance a dvě sestřenice. Pí. Krajčová byla rozená Honzová a na tu věčnost jí předešli ctyři bratří a dvě sestry. Zanechává sestru pí. Mary Křfškovou, několik vnoučat a mnoho neteří a synovců, a .nyslím dvě švakrové pí. Mary Hon­ zovou a pí. Wesley Honzovou.

Pohřbená z kostela sv. Jana a uložená na hřbitov sv. Josefa vedle svého manžela. Zesnulé přejeme tichý klid na věčnosti a pozůstalým naše upřímná soustrast.

Bylo nám posláno oznámeni, že v 14 až 16. listopadu se bude konat velká oslava v Bryan, Texas, a bude to hudební oslava. V pátek 14. bude hrát Orchestra Vráželová a Jodie Mikula zas bude hrát v neděli a pak též bude hrat cymbálová orchestra "Burčáci" a "Vlčňovjan" (obě z Uherskeho Hradíštsě).

Také při tom budou učínkovat Dallaská koncertní· kapela, SP JST řádu 88 koncertní kapela, a pěvecký spolek z Houstonu, dallaští čeští zpěváci. Čeští zpěváci z jižního Texasu, čeští zpěváci z Louise, Texas, Robert Blažek a Texaští Čeští zpěváci, dechová hudba ze Seaton, Universitní zpěváci a mnoho jiných. Ty hudební soubory z Moravy v Československa jistě budou zajímat naše krajany jelikož Texas má tolik lidí z Moravy (anebo předkové jejich byli odtud). Ceny za lístky na tuto oslavu budou prý $15.00 jedna ale budou muset být objednané dříve než 16.tého srpna a děti musí být $3.00. U dveří prý ceny lístku bude $25.00 (v tom je zahrnuto jeden dospělý lístek a $7.00

za one.) Jestli někdo bude chtít jít jen některý den tak to bude na v pátek večer za $7.00 a $15.00 za sobotu a $7.00 za neděli večer. Tak kdo má zájem o tuto oslavu a muže jet, tak se vypravte a podpořte touto Ses­ quicentenniální oslavu mezi krajany texaské.

Minulý týden se konaly volby v několika městeček poblíže Dallasu to zda mají míti dovolení prodávat pivo a víno tam, a některé to nedovolili že prý to nechtí, Druzí zas říkali, že by prodej toho piva a vína jim dal hodně výdělku. Ale též druzí říkají, že by to přůvodilo mnoho provozu a že raději chtí míti klid a ticho.

Také nyní se vynašlo, že ti dva výslanci v Římě v Italii, prý měli hodně peněz na bankách a těmi podporovali teroriství v te Libyii. Mimo těch peněz v Římě měli prý též peníze ve Švýcarech, Anglii, Zapadním Německu a Maroku a tak jim to šlo tak dobře, že mohli bombovat a zabíjet lidi v jiných zemích. Ti co byli zatčení měli šeky na velké obnosy a měli také zbraně u sebe. Těch peněz nebylo málo, ale kolik milionu dolaru. Nyní co se to vynašlo tak budou dávat lepší pozor na všechno takové a zavřou ty zločince. Musejí být stále na stráži, aby se neopakovaly ty hrozné tragedie jako byly letos.

Ta korporace zvaná LTV má nyní hodně starosti skrze ty dluhy a též je­ jich oceloví pracovníci šli na stávku skrze to, že společnost odmítla dávat pojištění zdravotní těm zaměstnancům, kteří už šli na odpočinek. Oni se ti hlavní úředníci hájí tím, že nemohou vyplácet to poji štění těm 70 tisícům dělníkům (v Dallasu je jich 12 tisíc) neboť mají starosti s tím bankrotem. Stávkující vyhrožují, že stávka bude trvat dokud společnost se neumoudří. Tak nevime jak to dopadne.

Minulý týden zde dvá lidé kteří spolu žili jako manželé 50 let tak ještě měli k jídlu vše co měli zakázané a pak vypili víno které mělo otravu, lehli si do postele, a tak ukončili životy své. Ten muž měl slabé srdce a měl strach, že až jeho stav se zhorší, že bude muset být v nemocnici a pak až by zemřel, tak ona zas by zůstala sama a tak se rozhodli ukončit vše dokud to mohli udělat a jak žili tak zemřeli- spolu! On měl několik záchvatu srdečních a oba byli lékaři a věděli co by je čekalo. Oba byli 76 letí. Je to pak opravdu smutné když někdo musí tak život ukončit-- že ano?

Katolický kněz jménem Lawrence Jenco byl konečně propuštěn ze zajetí z Lebanonu po 19ti měsících uvěznění, a řekl, že je v dobrém stavu. Jeho 3 bratri a 3 sestry ho netrpělivě očekávali a pojedou mu naproti do Německa.

Ještě jsou jiní zajatci tam ale Moslemové chtí že Amerika musí se postarat o to, aby těch 17 lidí kteří jsou zajatí v Kuwaitu že bombovali americké a francouzské vyslanectví v 1983, ale Kuwait je nechce propustit.

Tak neví se jak to dopadne. Reagan rekl, ze on nebude jednat s teroristy-­ je to tedy zlé.

Nedávno byl zde president Reagan aby pomohl svému příteli bývalému guverneru Clementsovi, který soutěží s guvernerem Whitem na ten úřad. Prý Clements věnoval $25 tisíc dolaru aby mohl Reagan sem se dostavit a ten prý

sehnal milion dolaru .zde, které budou použity na zvolení Clementse na pod­ zim. Lístky na ten oběd prý přinésly ten milion (každý lístek byl 5 tisíc dolaru). Nevím proč se ten Clements tam znova žene když je bohatý a nemusí se o nic starat, tak proč chce míti starosti s úřadem guvernéra-- není to pravda?

Minulý týden zde se sešla městská rada a tam při jednání mayor Taylor a černoch Lipscomb se dostali do hádky a černoch křicěl a nechtěl poslechnout když mayor ho žádal aby ztichl, a pak teprve to bylo hlučné a nyní chtí udělat zákon, který by dohlížel nad těmi neposlušnými členy aby museli dbát a respektovat mayora když je o něco požádá. Ti černoši pořád by chtěli mít více práv a dělat si to co oni chtí sami.

Je to těžké s nimi jednat.

Dnes je zase velké horko a už jsme měli 6 dní přes stovku teploty a říkají, že nevidí nic jiného než další horka (a dešť nikde). V těch jiho-východních státech sice někde dostali menží dešř, ale to jim nic nepomohlo když je pořád takové horko a sucho. To zas bude leckde velmi zle a vše bude drahé následkem toho. · Oznamovali nám, že ve Ft. Worth, Texas prý letos už měli sto tři případy kdy lide byli zabití, což je opravdu hodně za tak krátkou dobu. Některe ty případy se staly nešťastnou náhodou ale mnozí byly zavraždění a nevíme proč se to muselo stát. Začíná to být velmi špatná situace když mnozí jsou bez příčiny připravení o svůj život, a nikde nejsou jistí se svým životem.

V neděli ráno se zase ztratil malý čtyřletý hoch mexické národnosti a nevědí kde je. Jeho matka byla prý opilá a tak nic o tom neví co se sním stalo. Byl strach, že ho někdo unésl, ale zase druzí myslí, že hoch se někde zatoulal a kdosi ho vzal k sobě a ponechal si ho až do té doby kdy rodiče se přihlásí o něj. V dnešní době je všechno možné a kdoví co se s ním stalo, ještě jsou též druhé děti a tak mají rodiče dost starostí.

Ta Martina Navrátilová opravdu sklidila velké vítězství v tom tenisu a nyní televize a noviny stále píší o ní a mluví jak vyhrála a jak byla přijatá tamními krajany když poprvně za 11 let jí uviděli zase v Praze. Též 3 druhé krajanky sklidili hodně potlesku za svou výhru.

Ten král Hassan z Maroka se sešel s israelským ministrem a to se nelíbilo arabským národům a tak Hassan vystoupil jako president toho svazku kde je zastoupeno 21 arabských zemí a Syrie docela přerušila diplomatické styky s Marokem. Náš místo-president Bush je nyní v Israeli a chtěl by zajistit mír mezi těmi zeměmi a Israelem. Snad se to konečně dostaví-- bylo by to velmi dobré pro všechny, že ano?

Sestry a bratři.

Schůze našeho řádu v neděli, 20. července, měla trochu smůlu. Z technických důvodů začli jsme asi o 20 minut později, což by nebylo tak ne­ jhorší nakonec jsme to dohnali.

Správce tam totiž nebyl, museli jsme se postarat čeho bylo třeba. Především nebylo zapnuto chlazení, skříňka byla uzamčena a také klíče ke kabinetům v

o. srpna kuchyni jsme neměli. Bratr William J. Mareš měl hodně běhání, telefonování, věděl komu co a jak, takže to brzo dobře dopadlo.

Chybělo nám hodně úředníků a členů. Bratr Anthony Triliček se telefonicky omluvil, že po překonané operaci se necítí dost silný, proto jeho místo zaujal bratr William J. Mareš místopředseda řádu. Tajemník řádu, bratr Dominik F. Netek, co delegát byl na sjezdu KJT v Corpus Christi, jeho místo zaujala sestra Viola Fajkusová.

Také jsme postrádali bratra Emila E. Matulu, který rovněž byl na sjezdu v Corpus Christi. Litujeme, že bratr Triliček byl nucen zůstat doma, pře­

jeme mu, aby se co nejdřív zotavil a mohl zasepřijít mezináš. Bratr Mareš, co zkušený, vedl schůzi bezvadně, všichni byli nejvýš spokojeni. V kuchyni se pilně tužily sestry Marcella M. Kleprlíková, Stella Marešová a Miloslava Phelpsová. Také jsme postrádali bratra a sestru Rohanovi, kteří z osobních důvodů se omluvili.

Bratr Mareš také oznámil, že bratr a sestra Schimčekovipro účast v Corpus Christi, nejsou přítomni. Bratr a sestra Kurtzovi přinesli narozeninový dort, ale nezůstali, odjeli na rodinné shromáždění do Falls City. Absence byla tedy citelná.

Zprávu tajemníka přečetla sestra Viola Fajkusová, nebylo připomínek, rovněž tak ke zprávě fin.tajemnice, sestry Kathy Uribové, nebylo změn.

Obě zprávy byly přijaty jak čteny.

Onemocnělí členové: sestra Emilie Amburnová a bratr Louis Krupala.

Sestra Marcella M. Kleprlíková oznámila, že Frank a Viola Fajkusovi oslavili 12.července 4.výročí svého sňatku a David a Kathy Murleyoslavili to.července 10.výročí svého sňatku.

Manželé Fajkusovi byli ozdobeni, byl to velmi hezký corsage a květina bílé barvy, hezky se to vyjímalo. Jistě 45 roků společného života již něco znamená. Naším přáním je, aby manželé Fajkusovi v dobrém zdraví a svěží mysli ještě mnoho let spolu spokojeně žili, těšíme se na oslavu je­ jich zlaté svatby!

Bratr WilliamJ. Mareš, připomenul, že ve dnech 30.a 31.srpna bude se konat WESTFEST- Oslava 150.výročí státu Texasu. Jsou konány veliké přípravy, program, tance a pochopitelně vše jen to nejlepší pro občerstvení. Kdo by si přál podrob­ nost i, muže dopsat anebo zatelefonovat na adresu: Westfest, P.O. Box 65, West, Texas 76691 -telefon 817-826-5058. Očekává se veliká návštěva. Neopomeňte, přejeme příjemnou zábavu!

Narozeninyv červencioslavili:sestra Miloslava Phelpsová a bratr Otto Hur­ t a. Píseň "Happy birthday" následovalo vyfotografování, o to se postarala sestra Miloslava Phelpsová svým novým fotopřístrojem. Také byli vyfotografováni manželé Frank a Viola Fajkusovi, obrázek bude v některém z příštích čísel Věstníku.

Ve schůzi přítomná sestra Jarolyn Poppová stručně podala vysvětlení o platném pojištění a doporučila, aby v případě nejasnosti anebo potřeby pojištění se na ní obrátili.

Při losování odměnu za přítomnost ve schůzi obdrželi: 1. cenu- sestra Jenovefa Schultzová, 2. cenu- sestra Jane Hurtová, 3. cenu-bratr Otto Hur­ ta a 4. cenu- bratr William J. Mareš.

Bylo též oznámeno, že bratr Joe Stryk byl v nemocnici, kde se podrobil operaci; vše dobře dopadlo, přejeme rychlé zotavení, doufáme, že se uvidíme v příští naší schůzi.

Po projednání všeho na návrh sestry Violy Fajkusové, podporovaný bratrem Jaškem, velmi hezká schůze byla odročena. Příští schůze našeho řádu bude se konat v neděli, 17.srpna.

Doufáme, že počasí bude hezké a proto se těšíme na větší návštěvu. Přiveďte i svoje známé, společně se pobavíme a zapomenemena denní starosti. Dlužno ještě dodat, že po schůzi při společenské hře jsme měli bohatou a výbornou svačinu. Všeho hojnost a všem znamenitě chutnalo.

Nedávno jsem kdesi četl, že náš život je vlastně stálým vykonáváním služeb.

Jednak v povolání a když již jsme v důchodu, jsou i jiné věci, které nutno vykonávat jednak pro svoje vlastní dobro, ale také pro jiné. Každý slouží ve svém vlastním povolání jak nejlépe a nejdéle může. Vzájemná služba je nutná, bez ní by život lidský nebyl možný. Kdo svůj úkol poctivě vykonává, jeho život je užitečný a dosahuje zasloužené spokojenosti, což je bezesporně jeden z nejduležitějších cílů života.

Naše celoživotnílopocení nám třeba nepřinese bohatství a slávu, které jsou tak jako tak pomíjející. Jestli jsme dobře žili, můžeme s uspokojením zahledět na léta zpět, uspokojí to naši mysl i srdce, což, dle mého názoru, je základ lidského štěstí. Známe mnoho případů, kdy boháči nežijí šťastně, sahají i na svůj život, rozhodně řádná sláva ani bohatství nelze srovnat s vnitřním uspokojením a klidným životem. Jistě je důležité při konání svých životních úkolů, které někdy jsou velmi těžké, myslit i na ostatní, svoje příbuzné a přátele, na všechny a na všechno, co slouží k všeobecnému dobru, bratrskému spolku a k dobru a blahu obecnému. Zachovejme si veselou mysl, neboť veselá mysl je půl zdraví!

Řád Slovanksá Lípa č. 66. Waco Ctěni bratři a sestry, Již je na čase abych poslal zprávu z naší červencovéschůze, kterou zahájil náš předseda bratr Ray Orsag v půl druhé odpoledne; byla to zvláštní schůzena opravu řádových stanov pak předal vedení bratru Geo. Pauling, který má za zodpovědnost připravit naše nové řádové stanovy.

Bratr George hned se ujal práce a jsme přeměnili několik odstavců a po hodině jsme ostatek odložili do příští schůze zase začátkem v 1:30 od­ poledne, tak prosím dostavte se o hodinu dříve aby jsme to dodělali.

Ve 2:30 byla zahájena pravidelná schůze; všichni úředníci byli na svém místě jenom sestra Darlene Engelke scházela; snad musela dovést ~YQU sestru na letiště v Templu což jsme ji dovolili. Vlajky nastolili bratři · SifIY. Warren a Larry Yates. MichaelWarren nás vedl při odříkání přísahu vlajce a řádové hesla. Bylo přítomno 52 členů.

Byl čten protokol z minulé schůze a přijat byl tak, jak napsán; dále byly čteny dopisy a účty; dopisy se vyřídily dle potřeby a účty jsme zaplatili.

Zvlášť zajímavý dopis byl od Westfestu ve kterém nám psali o zajímovosti, které letos připravují a skutečně myslím, že letos Westfest bude ten nejlepší co doposud měli a radím každému aby se ho letos zůčastnili a užili mnoho rádostných chvil.

Sestra Jeanette Smith nám darovala skřínku na uschování všelijakýchlistin za což ji náš předseda bratr Ray Orsag vřele poděkoval.

Pak jsme přikročili ke zprávám výboru a za naše dozorce podala zprávu Langlotzová, která jak vždy byla dobrá, naši dozorci dobře pracují.

Pak podala zprávu sestra Gladys Yates, ředitelka mládeže a povídala

nám, že mládež pojede do Val Verde taboru začátkem 10:30 ponděli 21. července a doufáme, že jich tam bude hodně a že mládež pojede do "Six Flags" 14. září a že se sejdou ve West při "West Auction Barn" v osum hodin ráno a odtud odjedou, tak si to mládež nezapomeňte.

Pak podala zprávu sestra Libby Par­ ma za náš "Trust Fund" a zdělilanám, že tito vyhráli v YAD mladší (anebo Juniors)- první cenu vyhrál Larry Yates, druhou- Kathy Warren, třeti­ Shane Pruitt, čtvrtou- Michael War­ ren, patou- Chris Owen. Starší (anebo Teens) první- Donna Stanislav, druhou- Billy Warren, třetí- James Yates, čtvrtou- Michelle Shelton a každému rozdala peněžitý dárek. Dále, že James Yates vychodil "Robinson High School" a byl darovan darem za jeho schopnosti; James už je členem 14 let našeho řádu.

Pak podala zprávu za zábavní výbor sestra Ruby Orsag; řekla nám, že v srpnu budeme mít sendviče, které má každá kuchařka donést a řád bude darovat "Chips" a nápoje a že v září budeme mít kuřatka smažene na rožni (barbecue) na oslavu výročí našeho řádu tak se máme na něco těšit.

Pak podala zprávu za "Fraternal Committee" sestra Jeanette Smith, že dostala tři děkovné dopisy a že výbor povolili dary těmto členům, kteří jsou nemocni-- sice bratr Henry West a bratr Frank Miller tak jsme jim každému odhlasovali $100; doufáme, že budou brzo zdraví a ve schůzi.

Pak přišlo nedodělané vedení-­ sestra Langlotzová děkovala každému ze jejich výpomoc při bingu. Sestra Gladys Yates, ředitelka mládežežádala třetího pomocníka a měla vybraného Richarda Pruitt, kterého jsme ji rádi dali za pomocníka.

Bratr Geo. Pauling žádal aby jsme se dostavili do příští schůze v čas na začátek 1 :30 dodělat řádové stanovy tak nezapomeňte.

Dveřní cenu vyhrál Richard Pruitt.

Narozeniny v červenciměli bratři Den­ nis Kofnovec a Matthew Pavlíček a sestry Leona Nors, Sherry Kofnovec, Doris Glatter, Georgia Kofnovec a Gladys Yates. Zazpívali jsme jim "Happy Birthday." Tak skončila naše schůzea prosím vás nazapomeňte přijít o hodinu dříve ať doděláme naše řádové stanovy.

Na letošní celostátní zemědělské výstavě Země živitelka v Ceských Budějovicích v jižních Cechách byl vystavován přístroj s názvem trace mercury analyzer TMA 254. Je to samostatný jednoúčelový spektrometr pro stanove11J obsahu rtuti, řízený mikroprocesorem, odzkoušený odborníky z Vysoké školy chemicko­ technologické v Praze a Výtkumného ústavu pro hnědé uhlí v Most-u v severních Cechách. Zařízení sklidilo zájem odborru'ků i laiků, protože podobný přístroj ve světě dosud neex­ istuje. Spektrometr pracuje s vysokou citlivostí při měření obsahu rtuti v pevných, kapalných i plynných látkách. Na displeji se objeví množství kovu v nanogramech (10-9 g), případně udává přímo koncentraci rtutu v hod­ noceném vzorku. Jeho univerzálnost ho předurčuje pro široké použití.

Umožní například sledovat čistotu ovz­ duší, obsah cizorodých látek v potravinách, v krmivech, ale také v uhlí, spalinách a popílcích. Výrobek vývojovýchdílen pražské vysoké školy se tak stane pomocníkem při řešení ekologických problémů, zvyšování kvality a hygienických vlastností potravin živočišného i i:ostlinného původu a upozorní na případné zvýšené nebezpečí, které ohrožuje životní prostředí. The Patient Education Department at Scott and White, Temple offers the following advice on how to prevent plant poisoning: 1. Teach your children never to put plants, plant parts, berries or mushrooms in their mouth.

2. Know the names of your house and garden plants and which ones are poisonous. The Patient Education Department at Scott and White Clinic, femple, will provide a free illustrated .;hart upon request.

3. Put poisonous houseplants, bulbs, seeds up high where children cannot reach them.

4. Do not think a plant is not poisonous because birds and other animals eat it.

5. Remember that cooking plants does not always kill poisons in the plant.

6. Call your doctor or poison center (774 - 2005) in case a child eats anything poisonous. Always have a bottle of syrup of IPECAC at home to induce vomiting.

7. Keep sample of plant.
