Fraternal Week And Flag Day Proclamation WHEREAS, the fraternal benefit societies of America join the President of the National Fraternal Congress of America in designating June 8-14, FRATERNAL WEEK, to inform the American public of fraternals' promotion and participation in philanthropic, civic, patriotic activities; and WHEREAS, cultural and spiritual values have long been recognized by fraternalists, who have made significant efforts to preserve such values in our country; and WHEREAS, as part of FRATERNAL WEEK, fraternal benefit societies and their local units throughout the nation will recognize FLAG DAY on June 14 in an effort to demonstrate to others that patriotism is as active now as it was when our nation was born; and WHEREAS, the 1986 celebration of FLAG DAY is significant because this year marks the Centennial of the Statue of Liberty whose beacon has guided many immigrants to America, and WHEREAS, 1986 is also the Centennial of the National Fraternal Congress of America, many of whose member societies were begun by groups of immigrants, working together to make their home in America, and WHEREAS, fraternalists with long tradition of reverence for the ideals of patriotism have promoted respect and recognition of the flag of our nation; now, therefore, be it RESOLVED, that the seven days beginning Sunday, June 8, 1986, and ending on Saturday, June 14, 1986, be designated as FRATERNAL WEEK and that member-societies, state fraternal congresses and the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA) encourage all their members to make every effort to tell their fellow citizens about the philosophy, purposes and projects of the ten million fraternalists associated- in the NFCA, and be it further RESOLVED, that on June 14, fraternalists throughout the United States be encouraged to highlight the birthday of the Stars and Stripes by organizing, promoting and conducting flag raising observances in cooperation with other civic groups; and be it further RESOLVED, that this proclamation be sent to all member-societies of the National Fraternal Congress of America and be communicated by them to their members.
