NOTICE All Members and Readers If you divide 365 days (a year) by 7 days (a week) your answer is 52 with 1 day leftover which means 52 issues of Vestnik per year, however, our contract calls for 50 issues of Vestnik per year, so that means we skip two issues each year as we did the last five (5) years. Therefore, we will not have an issue dated June 11, 1986 which means that all of you should mark your calendars with that notation.

Now this means that there will be this issue and two more -- May 28th and June 4th before June 11th and the next issue printed after June 4th will be dated June 18th and it means that if your lodge or you have something to be printed before June 18th, it has to be in our hands by May 29th so please remember to write in time to get your correspondence to us in time for the June 4th issue!

Now here is something else which happens about every 6 or 7 years -- If January 1st happens to be on a Wednesday (the date on our Vestnik each week), then December 31st would be the date of 53rd Vestnik (which is what happens this year) and our Legal Advisor Brother Sidney Kacir has advised- that we will have to abide by our contract of 50 issues and will have to skip two more issues this year; we will advise you those two dates to be skipped, later when more decisions are made in the matter. We hope you all understand how these things happen; leap year causes a problem, now and then, also (with its 366 days). *** In this issue are the Excerpts of the Supreme Lodge April meeting submitted by SL Secretary - Treasurer Leonard Mikeska. A TEXAS SESQUICENTENNIAL CELEBRATION June 8, 1986 Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center and Cultural Activities Center Temple, Texas June 8th a special event will take place. This event will be the Fraternal Fest sponsored by the SPJST. This sesquicentennial celebration will provide a common time for all our members to come together to celebrate this special time in our state's history.

In keeping with the fraternal tradition of the SPJST this celebration has been designed to be a festival for the entire family, featuring activities for all ages and all cultural backgrounds within our organization.

We want to celebrate our heritage and the contributions of our ancestors to Texas and also strengthen the fraternal ties which enable our Society to grow and prosper. *** As Americans in record numbers hit the road this summer, many will consider joining an auto club for help in case of a sudden breakdown.

Approximately 41 million motorists are members of one of the 120 automobile clubs around the country.

But only about 20 of the clubs -including those run by oil companies, retailers and car manufacturers -operate nationwide. Easily the largest of the clubs is the American Automobile Association, which currently has 26.5 million members and 165 offices throughout the'United States. In May, Volvo cars of North America included auto - club services as part of the warranty on its 1986 models, contracting with Amoco on behalf of Volvo's new - car buyers.

Membership in one of the national clubs usually is good for two adults, with an extra charge for children. A member is eligible for a club's service regardless of what kind of car he or she is driving or where a breakdown occurs. Most clubs offer the same basic services -- including trip planning, accident insurance, discounts for hotel rooms and car rentals and emergency repairs.

Any club will help you find a tow truck when you need one. But only two of the national clubs -- AAA and Amoco -- will send the truck free of charge. If your car is towed to the truck's garage, there's no charge. But if you have it taken somewhere else, you may have to pay extra, depending on the distance. Other clubs rely on you to find our own tow truck and reimburse you later. Reimbursements usually run from $25 to $75. The cost of a long tow can easily exceed $100. If you are a member of a local or regional club, make sure you know exactly where your coverage begins and ends.

You may not be eligible for the club's emergency service if the car breaks down in another state.

Club operators concede that self reliant drivers who keep their cars properly tuned may be able to do without memberships. Insurance companies also sell towing coverage.

From The SecretaryTreasurer's Office Excerpts From The Minutes Of The Second. Regular Quarterly Meeting Of The Supreme. Lodge SPJST Held April 9 - 10, 1986 At The Home Office In Temple, Texas

The meeting was called to order at 8:45 a.m. with all. Supreme Lodge members present: Howard B. Leshikar Bernard M. Gebala Leonard D. Mikeska Jerry Mikulas, Jr. Sidney Kacir Cyrill Pokladnik - III Ben F. Trcalek - I Willie E. Kohutek - II Stanley Broz - IV Jerry Prochazka - V Matt S. Vanek -. VI Thelma Hrncir - VII The agenda for the day was set and recess was taken so that the Products Committee, the Fraternal Activities Committee and the Financial Planning Committee could meet and consider recommendations on matters to be taken up during the meeting.

The meeting was called back to order at 10:45 a .m SPJST Home Office employee, Dorothy Stuchly, was invited into the Board Room and recognized for 20 years of service in the Financial Secretary's department. Financial Secretary Mikulas presented her with a monetary gift and Chairman of the Board Pokladnik presented her with a plaque. She was thanked for her outstanding service to the Society and she responded by expressing her appreciation .

MINUTES The minutes of the January 6 - 8, 1986 Supreme Lodge meeting were considered and duly adopted.

REPORTS The Supreme Lodge officers' reports were acknowledged to be placed of record.

OLD BUSINESS FRATERNAL FEST - Report was made on plans for the June 8th Fraternal Fest. Arrangements were discussed.

SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - There was a review of the SPJST scholarship program. Several items were considered.

After discussion, it was agreed to delete the limitation of premium paying during the duration of the scholarship from the scholarship rules.

(Effective this fall.) The required membership period for the next cycle of scholarships was set at one year.

Recess for lunch was taken.

PROGRAM ON CZECH HISTORY AND CULTURE - Noel Smith of KNCT - TV presented a preview of the video program. The program would be aired on several public television stations.

YOUTH DEPARTMENT - SYD Sue Meadows• reported on youth activities. Proposals were presented for consideration.

Proposal No. 1 - The request for an additional meeting was disapproved.

Proposal No. 2 - Request for telephone reimbursement for DYCs was disapproved.

Proposal No. 3 - The Camp T - Shirt proposal was approved provided that the Society would not be the seller to avoid the •matter of handling State Sales Tax. Proposal No. 4. - The Youth Club.

Bylaw revisions were approved as recommended.

Proposal No. 5 - The Youth Rule Book revisions were approved as recpmmended Proposal No. 6 - The YAD General Rules for eligibility were approved as recommended .

SPJST FLOAT - It was recommended that the sum of $50 per year be available to any lodge desiring to construct and use a float for an area or city parade. The recommendation was approved.

Rudy Sefcik arrived to visit the Supreme Lodge meeting.

PRODUCTS COMMITTEE PROPOSALS - It was recommended that the Society have three State Field.

Representatives and one State Field Manager to assist the volunteer sales force. This change should allow us to operate with our present sales force for years to come.

The Board discussed matter of some type of allocation to local lodges because of decrease in the 8 percent refund to lodges due to sales of interest sensitive products. It was recommended that our actuary be charged with the task of coming up with some type of formula for convention consideration.

It was clarified that the annuity deposits not count toward percentage of increase used to determine the lodge's basis of delegates per member, that is, the 1 to 100 or 1 to 150 ratios.

It was recommended that a study be made to determine which of our traditional insurance plans should be updated and placed on the 1980 CSO table. The recommendation was approved.

EDITOR SEFCIK - Was given an opportunity to bring up any matters he had for discussion and he presented several informational items. He encouraged support of the effort to set up a Czech chair in a Texas university.

Recess for the day was taken at 5:10 p.m. until 8:30 a.m. April 10, 1986.

DELINQUENT LODGE LOAN - A delinquent lodge loan was considered and action was agreed upon by the Board.

LITIGATIONS, BANKRUPTCIES, TAX SUITS Report was made on procedure followed in handling bankruptcies, tax suits and litigation.

SPJST LODGE REQUEST - A request was presented from a lodge to change scheduling of meetings from monthly to quarterly. A motion was adopted to deny the request and suggest a merger in lieu of quarterly meetings.

SPJST CALENDAR - The low bid for the 1987 calendar (from Western Media) was accepted.

EMPLOYEES - Supreme Lodge officers were authorized to hire additional employees when they deem it necessary to have additional staff to meet additional workloads brought about by new products, new procedures and other requirements.

DELINQUENT LOANS Recommendations on delinquent loans were considered and approved on motion duly passed.

MINUTES OF SL OFFICERS' MEETINGS - The minutes of 12 meetings held concerning investments were approved on motion duly passed.

FIRST QUARTER INVESTMENTS - The investments as listed in the secretary - treasurer's report were ratified.

Recess for lunch was taken.

REFINANCING OF SPJST MORTGAGES - The matter of refinancing of SPJST mortgages was considered and the recommendation was discussed, and approved as follows: It was decided to offer the following refinancing/modification options to SPJST borrowers who request loan refinancing PLAN 1 - Standard Refinancing Procedure 1) Borrower pays costs of full application fee, updated survey, title policy and all closing costs.

2) Interest rate will be the same as available to new loan applicants.

3) Re - appraisal procedure same as for a new loan.

4) New loan papers will be required.

5) The suggested amount of $25,000 SPJST insurance will apply.

PLAN 2 - Interest Rate Modification Program 1) Borrower pays an administrative fee of $100 (subject to a check on whether this will trigger recission requirement).

2) Interest rate for this unique and special program will be 11 percent.

3) No re - appraisal will be required.

4) Adjustment of interest to 11 percent will be by modification agreement and no new loan papers will be required.

5) The installment payment will remain unchanged and the savings of interest will be applied on principal each payrnent period.

6) The suggested amount of $25:,000 SPJST insurance will apply.

It was Understood that the sptcial offer of Plans 1 and 2 would apply for all refinancing requests received through July 31, 1986, and the matter would be reviewed in the July SL meeting.

ADJUSTMENTS, LOANS COMMITTED BUT NOT CLOSED Recommendation on interest rate adjustments on loans committed but not closed was considered. The following was decided: A mortgage loan applicant with a loan committed but not closed may obtain the interest rate available to new loan applicants by paying an administrative fee equivalent to 1/2 of the normal application fee. No re appraisal will be required.

SPJST MORTGAGE RATES - The following mortgage interest rates were set for new loan applications: 101/4 percent for a term of up to 10 years 101/2 percent for a term of 11 to 15 years 10 3/4 percent for a term of 16 to 20 years The commercial loan rate was set at: 111/4 percent for a term of up to 10 years 111/2 percent for a term of 11 to 15 years Acceptable securities are limited to owner - occupied residential, owner operated farms and ranches, future home sites, and owner - operated business property. Requirements previously adopted will also apply.

LOAN ALLOCATION - It was agreed to continue the existing policy on the amount of the loan allocation, to continue to waive the 1 year

membership requirement as long as loan funds are abundant, and the SL officers have the authority to adjust if more applications are received than can be handled.

ANNUITY RATE - The interest rate for the accumulation period "on annuities was set at 9 percent annualized for the period from May 1, 1986 through July 31, 1986.

UNIVERSAL LIFE RATE - The universaflife rate was set at 10 percent annualized for the period from May 1, 1986 through July 31, 1986.

ANNUITY DEPOSIT LIMITS After discussion and review of suggestions from Actuary John Agee, it was decided to set the maximum annuity deposit at $200,000 per member. It was understood that the limit would apply to the deposit and would not include interest credited to the account.

ANNUITY AUTOMATIC INTEREST PAYMENTS - Decision was reached to not offer any automatic interest payment agreements on annuities during the accumulation period; however, those agreements made prior to this meeting could be continued.

INVESTMENT POLICY - The Society investment policy was reviewed and motion was adopted to amend as follows: Add "SAVINGS AND LOAN Certificates, and/or Money Market savings and loan AccountsThe, association must first be approved by the Supreme Lodge.

Not more than $125,000 can be placed irr-any one savings and loan cerfifiCate of deposit-or money market fund in any one savings *and loan association. Total not to exceed 3 percent of total assets at time of deposit."

CHARITABLE - As allowed by Article 91(f) of our Bylaws, a motion was adopted to allocate and pay the unpaid claim accounts to the scholarship fund as indicated in table

1 CONFLICT OF INTEREST - The matter of the Society procedure for reporting conflict of interest was taken up. Each Supreme Lodge officer and director was called upon to report any conflict of interest and none was reported.

COPIER - Authorization was granted to purchase a heavy duty photocopier if replacement of the backup copier becomes necessary.

EMPLOYEES' RETIREMENT PENSION PLAN - The Finance Committee met on January 18, 1986 at the SPJST Home Office to comply with the bylaw meeting requirement.

The Finance Committee reviewed information from Pension Actuary Toby Tableman and submitted recommendations to the Supreme Lodge. The Supreme Lodge agreed on updates to the Pension Plan as recommended by the Finance Committee and allowed a 3.5 percent increase for the present retirees under our pension plan.

MUSEUM DISPLAY - It was agreed to provide a museum display and insurance sales display at the Caldwell Kolache Festival. Thelma Bartosh would be present to handle the display.

Lodge 25, Ennis April Meeting Our, regular monthly meeting was called to order at 8 p.m. May 10th.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Brother Willie Laza.

All officers were present. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.'

The monthly report of the lodge's financial standing was given by Sister Emma Trojacek . A successful Polka Festival was reported.

President Johnnie Krajca thanked all members who worked at the Polka Festival (a very special thank you went to Emmert Starek for his help with the barbecue).

Vice President Kenneth Krajca thanked. Albin and Mildred Bouska with their help at the door and all who helped make the two - day weekend a success.

Financial Secretary announced two new members, Michael Hickman and Kyle Bradley Bouska..

Fraternal Council meeting with SPJST Lodge No. 25 hosting the meeting will be held May 29th at 7:30 p.m.

A moment of silence was observed for our departed members, James V. Head, Jerry R. Sulc and Andrew Kucera.

A Polka Festival workers' party will be held Saturday, May 24th beginning with a dinner at 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.; at 8:30 p.m., a big dance with music by the Lone Star Czechs. We hope you will come to enjoy the evening.

Lodge 47, Seaton Honors Graduates Dear Brothers and Sisters: President Jerry Pechal called the lodge meeting to order at 2 p.m.

Sunday, May 4, 1986.

Flag Bearers Heidi Schroeder and Tracy Klusacek brought in the flags and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Then the meeting was turned over to Youth Leader Rosie Craft. She gave the monetary gifts from the lodge to

the five high school graduates who were active in the youth club. These. honorees were Nora Skrabanek, Sharon Pavelka, Michelle Boykin, Althea Young and Mark Tepera. Sister' Pavelka had to work .so ; she was absent.

Brother Leonard Mikeska, SL secretary - treasurer, was the guest speaker to-address the graduates and members. He had a very informative speech emphasizing the problems fading each - - threats of war, economics, jobs, college and careers.

Reaching for the' goals that they are only thinking about now. He said that failures will be along the way, mistakes are made but that professionals don't repeat mistakes. The best of luck to each graduate and may success be yours, because life begins after graduation! Also, each honoree received a decorated cake in their school colors and a graduate statuette; congratulations!

The visitors were recognized, namely, Ann Balusek, Mary Holick, Gertrude Kahlig, Lonnie, Olga and Freddie Schroeder. Come again when possible.

The secretary read the roll call of officers and sales representatives with the Czech reporter, Sister Annie Jakubec, being absent.

The minutes were read and approved as read by. Secretary Dolores Skrabanek. The correspondence included a thank you note from Annie Hejl, a reminder of the Fraternal Fest June 8th at Frank Mayborn Center from Brother Howard Leshikar, an acknowledgement of the support we gave to the restoration of the Statue of Liberty and the Taroky Tournament is to be announced later.

The new certificates approved for membership included Brothers Frank E. Klinkovsky, Jr., Charles A. Anglin and Glenn Odstrcil and Sisters Dorothy Stuchly, Linda Marie Pechal and Andrea Lynne Stork. Welcome to each named and to the transferee into our lodge of Brother William Wofford, Jr. from Lodge 87, Temple.

Thank you for choosing our lodge for membership.

Those on the sick list during April were Brothers Jerry Trampota, Charlie Marek, Joe Marinik and Edward Mihatsch, Vaclav Sefcik and Frank Sefcik were scheduled for surgery the following day after the meeting. The sisters on the sick list were Rosa Christensen, Lucy Mihatsch and Evelyn Heese. Brothers Louis Sirney and Jerry Kopriva, Jr. have been hospitalized in Maya Hope you all are recovering satisfactorily and that you shall have good health very soon.

President Pechal, in his report, he had that Brother Ervin and Sister Eleanor Rusnak of Irving were to receive their 50 - year pins this year.

We gave them a call to invite them to the May lodge meeting but because of convention that Sister Rusnak was a delegate to on Monday, they were unable to come to this meeting. They were sent the 50 - year pins by the lodge secretary and were expressing our congratulations to both of you and hope you will enjoy many more years as our members. The dance originally set for May 18th was rescheduled for Sunday, June 22nd. Be watching for more details if they finalize. The Board of Trustees will make the decision May 19th.

Sister Adeline Kohutek gave her financial report and read the board minutes.

Brother Frank Klinkovsky reminded the youth about the camp and YAD

Wednesday, May 21, 1986—VESTNiK/5 forms. - Watch his reports in the Vestnik for the deadlines; also, LIT training for those helping at camp May 17th and 18th; District II YAD at Academy July 13th; and the District II fall meeting September 14th at Seaton Star Hall.

Sister Emily Stuteville stated that all over 60 to go cast their votes for the representative to the Silver Haired Legislature with voting at Seaton Community Center Tuesday, May 20th.

All mothers were asked to stand and they received applause for Mother's Day that is held in May. All who celebrated their birthdays in May are Vice President Alfred Klusacek, Ann Hejl, Louis J. Marek, Lillie Mikulas, Bertha Capps, Henry Mares, Raymond Mikeska, Mary Vasicek and Patsy Koslovsky.

Wedding anniversary was to be observed by George and Marie Pavelka.

To all those named, happy birthday or wedding anniversary and many, many more.

Youth Leader Rosie Craft gave her report. Elections were held with all youth officers being re - elected. I am sure they will have a report in the Vestnik. Fourteen members and twelve guests were present at their meeting.

One new member is Michelle Skrabanek and she was the only one celebrating a May birthday. Their social for the month was pending.

Door prizes were awarded to Bennie Mikeska and Charlie Sirney.

After the meeting, we were treated to a chicken barbecue and the goodies brought by everyone. It sure was good.

Thanks to all who barbecued and brought the salads and sweets.

The next meeting will be Sunday, June 1st at 2 p.m. Be there!

74, Lovelady May Meeting

The regular meeting of Lovelady Lodge No. 74 was held Monday night, May 12th at 7:30 p.m. President Don McKenney opened the meeting. All reports were read and approved.

The Audit Committee consisting of Nell Meinen, Mary McInnis and Jan Salmon reported all the books were audited and were in good order.

The Maintenance Committee composed of Billy Bobalik, Chuck Smith and Buddy Meinen, along with other trustees and wives, has been busy; they are paneling the entrance of the lodge and it really looks nice. Glass doors have been installed at the entrance to the lodge hall. I hesitate to mention names who worked for fear of leaving someone out. Thanks to all who worked for a job well done.

A Band Committee was appointed, namely, Theresia obalik, Nell Meinen and Creola Wilcox.

Rodney Salmon with the Mustang Prairie Band asked that his band be

allowed to have a benefit dance at Lodge 74 for Little John Austin Garrett, who has to have heart surgery. The time and date will be announced later and everyone will be urged to attend for such a worthwhile cause. Rodney, a member of Lodge 74, is commended for his efforts to help the Garrett family.

Inez Harris presented a beautiful sesquicentennial afghan designed like the Texas flag to the youth club. They will be selling tickets on the afghan to make money for youth club expenses.

We'll have a picture of the afghan in the Vestnik soon. I'm sure everyone will want to try and win it.

Our Monday night meeting was quite lengthy and very serious; we are having problems with teenage actions.

The members present took a long, hard and painful look at our situation and made some decisions that will not please everyone, but is our only course to follow at this point in time.

Effective May 17, 1986:

Members or guests under age 19 must be accompanied by parents, legal guardian or adult spouse.

All show members must card and membership valid identification.

Members must be present to sign in any guest.

Each member can only sign in 6 guests per night.

There will be Friday night and some Saturday night dances for youth under 19 years of age.

We strongly urge all youth and adult members to get involved and support the Youth and Adult Functions: Your lodge can prosper and grow only if you the members get involved and support it.

Dear Members and Readers: Houston Lodge 88 Youth Club members would like for all youth who are members of SPJST and live in District V to please come to Lodge 88's "Homecoming With A Splash" June 1st at Lodge 88, to go swimming FREE and meet our youth club officers and members. Even if you don't belong to a youth club (or have none at your local lodge), please come and let us show you what we do, you will meet boys and girls your own age who do things not only for themselves, but for others as well, and still have fun doing it. Get your mothers, fathers, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts, uncles and cousins by the dozen to Lodge 88 June 1st. Only the youth will swim FREE, so bring that swimsuit and sun tan lotion and go swimming in our beautiful pool.

154, Ft, Worth Changes Meeting Date

Dear Members and Friends: We hope all you mothers had a happy Mother's Day. Our dinner was a big success and enjoyed by all.

The youth club presented plants to our youngest mother, Sister Kelly Eaton and oldest mother, Sister Mary Hale. Yours truly also got a plant for being their other mother. It was greatly appreciated.

Brother Jerry Milan called our meeting to order at 3:30 p.m. He led us to the pledge to our flag.

He made welcome our out - of town guests, Mr. and Mrs. Douglass of Abilene, Texas and Sister Janee Milan Wright of Phoenix, Arizona.

He thanked Sister Mary Renfro for the delicious roast she prepared and to all the sisters for the good food.

All reports were approved as read.

Our youth leader; Sister Carolyn Cleveland, reported 10 youth members will be attending camp and they have purchased Camp T - Shirts. Carolyn along with quite a few of our members and Sokol members were to attend the Sokol Slet in Zurich, Switzerland, but most have cancelled due to the terrorism, so she will get to take the youth along with Sister Carol Sanders.

They are looking forward to it.

Brother Jerry read correspondence from the Department of Human Resources and received a certificate, also a certificate from the Statue of Liberty Restoration, and all the details on the Czech Festival for June 8th in Temple and on the State Fair.

Sister Pavey reported on all cards sent. We are happy to report Brother Joe Milan is recuperating nicely and was our door prize winner Sunday.

Sister Henrietta Milan reported, Vera Carpenter called from Chicago and wanted her to extend her Mother's Day wishes to all and also Sister Mary Hale got a call from her daughter, Sister Mary Catherine of Creve Couer, Illinois and to extend her greetings to all.

Sister Carolyn read a beautiful tribute, "What is a Mother?' It was a beautiful day.

We extend our congratulations to Darren Williams; he was elected senior president at Castleberry High School.

We send get - well wishes to Sister De Anne Schwabowski who had surgery. She recently moved here from Chicago.

It was voted on and passed to take an ad in the Southern District Sokol Slet Program Book that will be hosted

by Sokol Fort Worth June 13th, 14th and 15th.

Make note of our change for our next meeting -- June 1st at 3 p.m. due to the festival in Temple June 8th.

Benny and I went to St. Louis to visit my brother, Emil Chorich, who is very ill. I spent everyday we were there at the hospital with him and then enjoyed my nieces' good cooking every evening. Darrell and Mary K. treated us royally. She and their 2 children, David and Christina, are members of our lodge. My sister Micky resides with them and nephew Joseph, also our member.visited us.

We have been getting a lot of requests for "Friends" and am enclosing a copy if the editor has room to publish it.

We are proud of B.J. Cleveland for the fine job he is doing hosting "Clubhouse Cartoons" Monday

through Friday 3 p.m. on Channel 39 and from that show he got a call from Channel 21 and is taping a commericial to be on soon.

Sister Rose Steinman reported on how she and Sisters Mary Renfro and Jeanie Mason enjoyed visiting the different lodge homes in. Ennis during the Polka- Festival. They spent the night and enjoyed both days.

Before the meeting adjourned "Happy Birthday" was sung to Sisters Anna Johnson and Mary Renfro. We extend our greetings to all the May celebrants, and may you all have many more.

We thank Jewel Clark for her donation towards the meat at our dinner.

In old business the Fraternal Fest for June 8th in Temple was re - opened for discussion. A motion was made

Lodge 189, Bryan-College Statio;Meeting Dear Members: The quarterly meeting of the lodge was held March 9th at the KC Hall in Bryan. ICristi Wentrcek led the membership in the Pledge of Allegiance.

At this time we heard reports from the officers and lodge committees. The lodge was also informed of the photography contest that SPJST is sponsoring.

Two guests were introduced, namely, Lois Haile and Albert Novak, Jr. At this time we were glad to welcome Ms. Haile to our lodge membership. The meeting was then adjourned.

Texas Lodge 191 Activities

We danced to Roy West and his Kountry Kickers Band April 26th and, as expected, we had a full house. Our youth cloggers -- Misty Daniels and Shelley Boyd gave us an intermission floor show. Everyone had a good time.

May 10th we again danced to Roy West and his band. Miss Bailey and Mrs. Sikes -- clogging instructor and student, gave us a nice intermission number which we all enjoyed very much. Roy West's Band is really good and they will be playing May 24th again. At this time Bea and Walter Williams will be hosting a LUAU which ought to be lots of fun so be there to enjoy the party. Put on your bright shirts and grass skirts.

Our pizza adventure turned out to be a very successful program; 253 pizzas were sold and we made them Saturday. As you all know, profits are all going into our building fund and our building improvements are very visible. Thanks again to the people who sold and helped make the pizzas.

We will be having another pizza program and I hope more people get involved and maybe we can set a goal of doubling our sales. More on this program later.

Texas Czech Sesquicentennial Souvenir Book The American - Czech Culture Society is preparing a special souvenir commemorate the book to Sesquicentennial Anniversary of Texas' Independence and pay tribute to the hundreds of thousands of Texans of Czech ancestry. This souvenir book will include information on the Czech - Moravians of Texas and and fraternal their cultural organizations.

The American - Czech Culture Society is a non - profit organization composed of Czech -. American fraternal societies. Since the early 1950s; this organization has sponsored an annual Czech Day at the State Fair of Texas in Dallas. In commemoration of the. Texas Sesquicentennial the American - Czech Culture Society is sponsoring a spectacular celebration in Dallas October 3, 4 and 5, 1986. The souvenir book will contain •the complete program for the three - day extravaganza, as well as a history of past Czech Days at the State Fair, information about a Texas Czech history symposium in Dallas October 3 and 4 and details about the Czech exhibit at the State Fair.

As part of the sesquicentennial program, the American - Czech Culture Society is sponsoring a special exhibit at the State Fair, "The Czechs of Texas: A Living Heritage." This exhibit will open to the public September 26, last for 31 days and will be viewed by hundreds of thousands of visitors. The exhibit will illustrate the history and cultural heritage of the large Czech - Moravian community of Texas. There will be no admission charge for this exhibit which is being financed by the American - Czech Culture Society at a cost of more than $10,000. It is hoped that sales of souvenir books and advertising will help defray this expense. Many of the local Czech American societies have each already pledged $250 towards financing the exhibit. Special acknowledgement will be given in the souvenir book to those who contribute a sum larger than $10 towards the exhibit.

The y souvenir book is being sponsored by organizations, businesses and individuals throughout Texas. It is hoped that fraternal lodges throughout Texas will contribute information about the founding of their organizations, their history and officers. Families can demonstrate their support of our Czech heritage by purchasing advertising in the name of their family and pioneer ancestors.

Choral Club Report

Since my last report, we entertained at the Buckholts Lodge No. 15 Sesquicentennial Picnic. Those present were Annie Jakubec (song leader), Henry Janacek (accordianist), Helen Janacek, Della Psencik, Mary Holick, Martha Klusacek, Agnes Schiller and Dorothy Pechal. We enjoyed the other entertainment and the free dance that followed. The barbecue meal was enjoyed by all, also.

On our regular fourth Tuesday, April 22nd, we entertained at the Southland Villa Nursing Home. Henry Janacek played the accordian and the following sang, namely, Annie Jakubec, Helen Janacek, Martha Klusacek, Calvin Chervenka, La Verne Vanicek, Albina Mikeska, Anne Krcha, Della Psencik, Agnes Schiller, Georgia Sodek and Dorothy Pechal. It was an enjoyable visit with residents there. We spent some time chatting with some old friends.

The regular rehearsal was held Tuesday, May 13th, at 7:30 p.m. with Annie Jakubec, Henry . and Helen Janacek, Martha Klusacek, Georgia Sodek, Della Psencik, Mary Holick, Albina Mikeska, Emily Stuteville and Dorothy Pechal. We practiced some of the songs that we will sing at the Fraternal Fest June 8th. Our next rehearsal is Tuesday, May 2,7th at 7:30 p.m. If you wish to participate at the Mayborn Convention and Civic Center you MUST come to this practice. We are to inform the Supreme Lodge of the number of participants before the event, AND NOT THAT DAY! We held the business meeting. On the agenda was the picnic we usually hold in the spring. We set this event for

Sunday,. June 22nd at noon. We will eat at 12:30 p.m. and are *asking everyone to bring only a dessert; the rest will be furnished. More details at a later date.

Annual

The annual meeting of the Czech Ex - Students Association of Texas (CESAT) will be held at the SPJST Supreme Lodge, 520 North Main Street, Temple, Texas at 1 p.m.

Saturday, June 7, 1986.

All members are urged to attend this meeting which, in the order of business, will include the nomination and election of officers for the 1986 87 year.

Guests are also welcome to attend; CESAT membership is open to all persons interested in the study, preservation and promotion of the Czech language and Czech culture in Texas.

Ranger School Reunion

Our reunion turned out to be a fun filled day with singing and music, which we all need, with all the hate and strife all over the world.

This being the Sesquicentennial year, we had the group sing "Beautiful Texas" led by R.C. Henderson, then Mr. Henderson sang, "Oh, Lord It's Hard To Be Humble," and then we had a surprise; Bill Bowen, teacher from Cameron and son of the late Harold Bowen, sang one of his dad's favorites, "Sleeping At The Foot Of The Bed," all were accompanied by Lorene Henderson on the piano.

After lunch, we had another surprise, one musician turned out to be five; "Slim" Haisler, Julius Dubcak, George Pavelka, Henry Janacek and Jerry Haisler, who entertained us the rest of the afternoon; thank you, guys, you were great!

The oldest ex - student was Annie Vaenesian from Hurst, youngest was one of our entertainers, Julius Dubcak; this year we had two families having the largest group, they were the Ruzickas and the Simmanks; those who traveled the longest distance were Tom and Millie Adamek from Mesquite.

In behalf of the association, I want to thank everyone who helped with the reunion, 1-can't name any one special because I may overlook someone; but the food was super, aad the kolache and coffee for the early folks, was greatly appreciated; also many thanks to the guests who came; your presence made it a day to remember.

Our next reunion will be in two years with the same officers in charge.

From The District Youth Counselor District VII Outing Coming Up Soon AT HEB CAMP June 26, 27, 28 & 29, 1986 Final plans are made for our District VII outing . We are going to HEB Camp Windsong at Leakey. This camp has a capacity for 40 people. 1 ne invitation gives priority to active youth club members, then on a first - come basis. Anyone may go. Bring your children. This camp will be different from our regular youth camp. We are asking everyone to bring food for people you are bringing. You will also be responsible for the care and behavior of those you bring to camp.

We will have a lifeguard and a nurse.

Everyone will have to take turns helping with the cooking and cleaning.

All it will cost is the food you bring.

Below is a menu so we will be able to put our food together to prepare the meals.

We are to arrive at Camp Windsong (at HEB Camp) after 3 p.m. Thursday, we will stay Friday - Saturday and leave for home Sunday after lunch.

Send in your application now. Time is short. I will let you know as soon as the 40 places are filled.

If you bring a youth who is not your own child, a regular camp application must be signed by the child's parent.

Menu: Breakfast for 3 Meals -Coffee, milk, dry cereal, orange juice, bread, bacon and eggs.

Lunches: Three Meals -- Cold cuts, hot dogs, hamburgers and buns.

Evening Meals: Three Meals -Ground meat for 2 meals, chicken to fry for one meal.

Bring: Cups, bread, 2 carrots each, 2 potatoes, 1 onion, lettuce, tomatoes, salad dressing, chips, dips and cookies.

Bring your favorite beverage -- NO ALCOHOL, PLEASE! The above will take care of the basic meals. You may bring anything you want to eat, but I ask that you be sure , and bring enough of the above to pitch in the pot - to cook together.

We need 40 people to fill this camp.

Bring yourself, a friend, your enthusiasm and energy to make this camp a success.

From The Youth Leaders Lodge 6, Cottonwood YC Elects Officers The youth club had their monthly meeting May 4, 1986 at 2:30 p.m. with a fair attendance.

Our club members made Mother's Day gifts and also corsages for the West Rest Haven mothers; plus cakes were donated to the West Rest Haven's birthday party. Those who brought cakes were Kevin Dobecka, Tammi Dobecka, Shirley Dobecka, Celia Dobecka, Mary Lander and Willie Mae Schuetz.

April 20th Brother Robert and Sister Lydia Dobecka, Celia Dobecka and I attended the District III meeting in Fort Worth. The meeting was well attended by all lodges and the food was real good. The District III Youth Club was also well represented.

June 8th SPJST Fraternal Fest will have a Sesquicentennial celebration at Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center and Cultural Activities Center, Temple, Texas. The District III Youth Club will have a pastry booth. All Lodge 6 Youth Club members will have to bring a dessert.

Our youth donated items to the Mexia State School.

District YAD will be held June 29 at Lodge 92 in Fort Worth. The craft cards have to be sent in before June 1st.

Camp will be held from July 21st through July 24th. I had to send the forms in by May 10th.

The youth held election of officers.

They are as follows: President -- Lanette Hykel Vice President -- Shirley Dobecka Secretary -- Kevin Dobecka Treasurer -- Keith Hykel Reporter -- Tammi Dobecka Lodge 6 royalty candidates are Lanette Hykel (queen) and Tammi Dobecka (duchess).

The youth members are still selling stainless steel knives and birthday and get well cards.

There were no birthdays in May, however, we did have Assistant Youth Leader Rose and Aubrey Uptmor observing their wedding anniversary.

Darrell Uptmor brought the cake.

Dear Members: . I'm a little late in submitting these pictures, but a lot of things happened; anyway, better late than never!

These pictures were taken at their oath of office given at our March meeting of Lodge 88 monthly meeting.

District V Director Jerry Prochazka gave them their charge of office. We thank you so much, Brother Prochazka for doing this good deed.

We, also, presented_our beautiful 'Lodge 88 Youth Club" banner, the youth worked so hard on this project.

A contest was held among the members and Marlene Migl won the contest for the design of our banner.

We have a wonderful group of officers and members who believe in working together, after all that's what it's all about ; love, honor , brotherhood, benevolence and fraternalism of our SPJST Society. Letters From The Youth Lotige 30, Talton YC lects Officers Dear Vestnik Readers, The SPJST Lodge No. 30 Youth Club met Sunday, May 4th at 2:30 p.m. President Michelle Srubar brought the meeting to order.

Secretary Kim Dornak read the minutes and Jean Dorotik gave the treasurer's report. Linda Treumer gave the assistant treasurer's report.

Camp and District VI Tour, which will be June 25th, was discussed.

Stanley sales were also discussed. Your points are to be handed in to the youth leader.

Election of officers was held and the new officers are President -- Marcy Dorotik, Vice President - Michelle ;mbar, Secretary - Jean Dorotik, and 'reasurer -- Linda Treumer, Assistant 'reasurer -- Jennifer Dluhos.

Miss Mary Mrnustik, president of the adult lodge, installed the new officers.

For the contest, the members were asked to make something for Mother's Day. The winners were as follows: Lenice Kaspar, Ages 6 to 9: 1st Kristy Vacek, 3rd -- Craig 2nd Dorotik; Ages 13 to 17: 1st -- Marcy Dorotik and 2nd -- Jean Dorotik.

For a charity project members were asked to donate to O.C. Industries.

Mothers at the meeting received the door prizes. After the meeting the mothers played musical chairs and the youth members played a balloon game.

We, the members of SPJST Lodge No. 167, Penelope, wish to express our sincere sympath y to the family of MRS. ANTONE [AGNES] KONVICKA, 72, of Penelope died Friday, April 26, 1986, at a Hubbard hospital.

Born January 17, 1914, in Penelope (Hill County), Texas, Sister Konvicka had lived there all her life and was a member of the Catholic Church of the Nativity in Penelope.

Preceding her in death, March 5, 1977, was her husband, Antone Konvicka. Survivors include one son, Ernest Konvicka of Waco; three sisters, Julia Zatopek of Mount Calm, Mary Syjansky of Penelope and Lillie Stacha of Dallas; two grandchildren; and one great - grandson.

Rosary was recited at 7 p.m.

Sunday, April 27th at Kotch Funeral Home in West.

Dear Members, Mass of Christian burial was Lodge 88 Youth Club meeting was celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, April held May 6th. Plans for camp were 28th at the Catholic Church of the discussed. Camp forms are to be Nativity in Penelope with Rev. turned in by May 15th.

We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge No 33, Bleiblerville, in behalf of our entire membership, wish to express our sincere sympathy to the bereaved family of our lodge brother JOE A. DUSAK, who passed away at the Bellville Hospital at 11:45 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 1986 at the age of 71 years, 10 months and 28 days.

Brother Dusak was born in Wallis, Texas 2 June 1914 to Jakob and Angeline (Juricek) Dusak. He was reared in Wallis and attended the Wallis Public School. He was a plumber and electrician and was a member of the SPJST Lodge No. 33, Bleiblerville and Catholic Workman.

He was a member of the Catholic faith. February 7, 1946 he was married to Rosie Chaka in Bryan, Texas.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Rosie E. Dusak of Nelsonville; daughter, Miss Ella Mae Dusak of Houston; son, Joseph Dusak of Houston; sisters, Mrs. Lucy Prazak of Houston, Mrs. Sophie Hajek of Rosenberg and Mrs. Bertie Engelhardt of Houston; brothers, John, Jake, Frank and Albert Dusak.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter and one sister.

Funeral services were held from the Chapel of the Pete E. Etlinger. Funeral Home in Bellville at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 3rd with Rev. Albert Michalik officiating. Burial was in the National Cemetery near Nelsonville.

Pallbearers were Alvin Macat, Raymond Schovajsa, Jessie Macat, Darvin Schovajsa, Alfred Slavik and Elgin Shupak.

We, the Resolution Committee of SPJST Lodge No. 25, Ennis, on behalf of our officers and entire membership, wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to the family of our 'departed lodge brother ANDREW F. KUCERA, who passed away Sunday afternoon, May 4, 1986 at the age of 73, at Lufkin Memorial Hospital.

Brother Kucera was born November 30, 1912, in Ennis, the son of Joseph and Mary Fabian Kucera. He was reared in Ennis and graduated from Ennis High School in 1932. After school he owned and operated Kucera Cleaners.

January 31, 1942, he was married to Miss Olga Knize of Ennis. In 1942 he entered the U.S. Navy and served in the Pacific Theater of War. He was discharged in 1945. After the service he was employed by the City of Dallas as a deputy Tax Collector. He retired in 1978.

Brother Kucera was a member of the.

Moravian Church and the SPJST Lodge No. 25.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Olga Kucera of Ennis; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn Davis of • Lufkin; one granddaughter, Abby Davis of Lufkin; two grandsons, Hal Davis and Joshua Davis, both of Lufkin; two sisters, Mrs. Andrew Hensell of Irving and Miss Carolyn Kucera of Dallas; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 6th in Keever Chapel with the Rev. Charles McClure of First United Methodist Church officiating.

Interment was in St. Joseph's Cemetery under the direction of J.E. Keever Mortuary with the following serving as pallbearers: Leon Kucera, Hughey Conner, Gene Knize, Wesley Knize and Louis Kudrna, all of Ennis and Al Reznicek of Midlothian.

Emily Stuteville For Silver Hair Legislature PURPOSE FOR TEXAS SILVER HAIR LEGISLATURE To provide older Texans to become more knowledgeable about the Legislature process through involvement.

To discuss senior citizens issues for the Texas Legislature to consider.

To provide training within the community setting.

To provide an .avenue through older citizens may serve to the public, and private sectors, boards and commissions.

Emily Mikeska Stuteville, is one of the best well - known and well - liked women in the Temple - Rogers and East Bell County and has raised her own four children (two sons and two daughters) to become successful citizens. Emily's accomplishments in her lifetime are almost too great to number, but here's a few.

She is a member of the St. Luke Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America. She served as a council chairman of the Bell County Home Demonstration for four years and was a member of the Joe Lee H.D. Club for man_y years, serving almost all the office. She served in the Rogers PTA for many years.

Emily, served as 4 - H youth leader for 10 years and is a member of the Texas Farm Bureau where she was awarded a plaque for Meritrous Service.

In 1955, Emily was named the Outstanding Home Demonstration Club Woman at a meeting of the Bell County Home Demonstration Council.

Very recently this energetic woman has received her 50 - year pin as a member of the SPJST. She served the SPJST everyone of those years including serving as vice president, a secretary, a reporter, a youth leader and a sales representative. She also served as an SPJST District II Youth Director for four years.

During the 69th Texas Legislature a Silver - Haired Legislature was enacted to be a voice in Austin, for senior citizens from all over the state, and the objective of the Silver - Hair Legislature, is to serve the needs of both present and future older Texans.
