Lickskillet Day/Diamond Jubilee Of SPJST Hall Dear Members: A parade Sunday, October 20, 1985, at 10:30 a.m. will kick off festivities for this gala celebration in Fayetteville, Texas. Grand Marshals for the parade will be SPJST Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar and District I Director Ben Trcalek. All events will be held on the square in Fayetteville. Old - fashioned pit barbecue beef, pork and sausage will be served at 11:30 a.m. This, event will be sponsored by the Fayetteville Chamber of Commerce. Lodge 177 Honored By DHR

Gebala Elected President To NFCA Fraternal Section

Bernard M. Gebala, 302 E. Upshaw, Temple, Texas, was elected president of the Fraternal Section of the National Fraternal Congress of America at a meeting held September 29 - October 2 at the Riviera Hotel in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is shown above, second to left, with other officers of the section. They are, left to right, Lionel J. Frappier, Union Saint - Jean - Baptiste, immediate past president; Linda M. Missana, North American Benefit Association, vice president; and John L. Lengerman, Catholic Knights and Ladies of Illinois, secretary - treasurer. Mr. Gebala is vice president of the Slavonic Benevolent , Order of the State of Texas in Temple. The NFCA is composed of 99 not - for profit fraternal benefit life insurance societies of ethnic, religious, labor and general. origin. Together, they have nearly ten million members in the United States and Canada. These societies operate under a lodge system and feature fraternal activities. Some of their projects include support for orphanages and homes for the aged and handicapped, welfare service for the poor, and help for victims of natural disasters.

August 22, 1985 the Texas Department of Human Resources recognized SPJST Lodge 177, Academy, Texas "For Exemplary Support of Citizen Involvement." A certificate of recognition and appreciation was presented by Shelia Baker, Department of Human Resources Program Director, to Walter Jezek on behalf of Lodge 177. During the past three years Lodge 177 has donated $200 per month toward the support of First House in Temple, the emergency shelter for abused or neglected children. The lodge has also provided many of the other needs of these children during the past three years. Lodge 177 also allowed the Bell County Child Welfare Board to hold its annual dinner at their facility. Mr. Jezek has served as a member of the Bell County Child Welfare Board since October, 1984. He has donated many volunteer hours during the past year and was recognized as an outstanding board member. Mr. Jezek has been elected treasurer of the Bell County Child Welfare Board for 1985 - 1986.
