Lodge 66 Waco Donates To Abuse Center In our September meeting a collection was taken among the members present to purchase canned, food, diapers, soap, paper goods and personal toilet articles for the Family Abuse Center.

Seventy-two dollars was donated.

Sister Jeanette Smith, Chairman of the Fraternal Committee purchased the groceries etc., and delivered them to the center.

Notice To Our Members Who Are Wives In recent months it has come to my attention that many of our members (wives of deceased husband members) are complaining that when their husband has died, they do NOT receive the Vestnik anymore and it is a question why this has happened to them and, in some cases, it irritates them, and they write to me, the editor.

Here is the reason: Our SPJST Bylaws state that the Vestnik is mailed FREE one to each address. Naturally, it is mailed in the name of the husband and father. When the head of the household (husband) dies, the Vestnik to that address is automatically stopped (taken off the mailing list) because the Supreme Lodge does not have a list of names living at that address and the name of the wife, especially.

Here is what our members have to do to continue receiving the Vestnik if it has been stopped for whatever reason, especially deceased members in whose name the Vestnik was sent.

Send a letter to: Mr. Jerry Mikulas, Jr., Supreme Lodge, SPJST P.O. Box 100 Temple, Texas 76503 and give him your name, address and possibly your telephone number. I assure you that he or his office staff will let you know what your status is and you will receive the Vestnik as before if you are entitled to it THE EDITOR NEVER CANCELS YOUR VESTNIK! *** Smoke detectors reduce the odds that a home fire will be fatal by one third to one half, notes the National Safety Council. You should have at least one smoke detector on each level of the house. In the basement, a detector should be located near the stairs. Other detectors should be placed on the ceiling near the bedrooms and in the living room.

Detectors should be mounted at least 6 inches from where the ceiling meets the wall and located away from air vents.

Check the detectors every month and replace batteries at last once a year. *** One of the best ways to keep your car from being stolen is to lock the vehicle's doors and take the keys with you, according to the Insurance Information Institute. That may seem obvious. But of the more than one mlllion cars stolen last year, 80 percent were unlocked, and 40 percent had a key in the ignition. Other tips to foil car thieves: Never hide a spare key under the seat or above the visor.

Those are the first places experienced thieves look. Never leave the engine running and your car unattended -even for a minute. When parking, try to avoid isolated side streets. Bright lighting and a passing stream of traffic are good deterrents. And do not keep your registration in the car; a thief can use it to sell the auto. ***

Teenage abuse of alcohol and drugs is a parent's nightmare, but it can often be prevented if parents and thildren communicate better.

Approximately 8,000 teens die in alcohol - related traffic accidents annually. More than 3 million are alcoholics. Millions more use drugs.

Young people have a better chance of avoiding these statistics if they are able to talk frankly to their parents and can resist peer pressure, according to Robert Anastas, executive director of Students Against Driving Drunk. His advice to parents: Poor communication with your child can build up hostile feelings. Do not be disapproving and sarcastic; a child who is always ridiculed soon stops communicating. Take time to listen; what your child has to say may not seem important to you, but it is to him or her. Keep your promises, or risk undermining your child's confidence in you.

Help your child select his or her friends. Do whatever you can to build up the child's self esteem. Praise, compliment, hug, smile -- do anything to help the child have the courage to say "No" when friends suggest getting high. Do not tell your child "Make up your own mind" about drugs or drinking. That leaves the way open for abuse.

It's difficult to know for sure whether your child has a problem with alcohol or drugs. But there are warning signs: Dropping grades, increased secretiveness, a locked bedroom door, a lot of talk about drugs, things missing from the house, constant need for money. The clincher may be if you discover drug paraphernalia -- cigarette papers, pipes, or plastic bags -- and, certainly, actual drugs or alcohol.

If you find that your child is using drugs or, drinking, don't panic. He or she may be merely experimenting. You may be able to discourage further abuse. Don't punish or humiliate the child, but make it plain that no further abuse will be allowed. Back up the "no abuse" command with a clear and consistent set of rules and enforce them. Be strong so that, if necessary, your child can use you as the scapegoat to resist pressure from peers to use drugs. Seek professional help immediately from your family doctor, religious leader, school guidance counselor or police department. *** For some people, questioning doctors, dentists and other medical professionals is something that just isn't done. They feel they are challenging the doctor's judgment. To help you get information from health professionals, the American Association of Retired Persons and several federal consumer agencies have published a free booklet called "Healthy Questions." It gives specific information about how to choose and use the services of physicians, dentists, pharmacists and others. For a copy, send your name and address to the Consumer Information Center, Dept.

Tabor Plans Fall Festival

Dear Members: We decided to have a Fall Festival October 19 of this year; yes, that's a SATURDAY. We are going to try it this year and if it doesn't work out we'll go back to Sunday.

Bud Petty and Donnie Suehs will be head cooks for the barbecue; Martha Trcalek and Betty Suehs will be cochairpersons for the kitchen.

The Youth Club books were audited and found to be in order.

Our next meeting will be October 6th.

29 Makes ChAritable Donation -Lodge

The Taylor SPJST Lodge 29 held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, September 15 at 4 p.m. with President Edwin t Adamek presiding at the meeting.

Minutes of our previous meeting were read; the treasurer's and PropertY Committee's reports were given.

New members received in our lodge were Mathis Shane Muegge, Patrick Tate, Brian Lee Mitsch, Matthew Dennis Suchomel and Mrs. Ed Tate, Jr. We had one transfer, Ben Pensik, to Lodge 88.

The Youth Club report was given by Youth Leader Melvin Steger. There were 30 membeis, 13 adults and 1 visitor present; they had 6 new members.

Our Youth Club is selling kits; there are lots of Christmas items. Brother Steger reported that several youth members won at State YAD. He reported the youth will be going to Six Flags Sunday, September 29th; this is a District III function. He also announced that Academy Lodge 177 will have their annual Fall Festival, October 19 and everyone is invited to that function.

Lodge 29 donated a riding lawnmower to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home in Taylor.

Door prizes were won by Lawrence Miksch, Theo Brin kmeyer and Michael Kaiser.

Our next meeting will be at 4 p.m.

33 Annual Fish Fry

Lodge

A Fish Fry will be held by Lodge 33 in Bleiblerville Sunday, October 20, 1985 at the Bleiblerville SPJST Hall located on FM2502.

There will be fried fish sold to go beginning at 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.; serving begins at 11:30 a.m. The meal will consist of fish, bread, catsup, chips and coleslaw, all you can eat for $4.50 per adult, and $2.25 per child. Cakes and pies will also be available.

Dance music will be provided by Ray Krenek. Admission to the hall for dancing will be $3 per person. We will have plenty of refreshments.

40 September Meeting Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers and Friends: President James Kulcak called the September 18 meeting of the El Campo - Hillje Lodge 40, to order at 7:45 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was followed by a minute of silence for our departed members.

Secretary Laverne Bacak called the roll of officers. Financial Secretary Bill Goerig was excused. Trustee Albert Kresta, Sr. was absent. Both were missed. The minutes of the last meeting were read and amended.

Treasurer Leona Macha reported on all accounts and bills paid. She shared each of the journals, now prepared for ease at tax time. They are very thorough, but easy . to understand.

Each donation or designation of funds is to be added to quarterly.

President Kulcak received correspondence from George Leonard Jr. regarding scholarships. At this time, Greg Herzek is not planning to go to college, so his scholarship will go to Gretchen Rachel Lara. A bill received from WCEC will be papped on the school. Our own Kimberly Vanek has received a $500 scholarship from the Supreme Lodge SPJST. Wonderful!

Youth Leader Vlasta Bartos reported all is well and she was sorry President Kulcak was unable to attend their last meeting, but extended another invitation. In September the youth will participate in a picture and paragraph contest. Project prizes collected to date were furnished by Danny and Sharon Borak, Michael Marek, Jody Henderson, Veronica and Ann Bartos and Kim Kacal. In October, they will paint, color or carve a pumpkin. They have offered to perform for the adult group or furnish project prizes anytime they might be asked. We are proud to see our youth so involved with the parent club.

First Vice President Bennie Reck reports , the new parking lot is almost ready. It just needs some minor final shaping and will be ready to go.

Second Vice President Rita Vanek reported additional signs will be installed for the dance. Due to the additional paperwork, Sister Leona Macha will also be paid in accordance with other workers.

It was stated that our Financial Secretary Bill Goerig will continue in his present position even though we are now being set up for computer billing. Bill is to be commended; he is a hard worker and we could not survive without him.

The meeting adjourned and refreshments were served.

We are all looking forward to cooler weather and getting through the hurricane season. See you all at the next meeting, October 16th.

Dear Members: Our Lodge 66 meeting will be held Sunday, October 20 at 2:30 p.m. The ladies are asked to bring pastries.

To The Members Of Lodge 66, Waco This is just a reminder to our members that in our September 15 meeting we received the sad news that the home of Catherine and Clinton York and their two young children had been almost totally destroyed by fire.

We are planning an old fashioned "pounding" or "shower" for the Yorks at our October 20 meeting; whatever you wish to donate – groceries, cooking utensils, bed and kitchen linens or whatever to help them get started, again. Sister Mary Alice Langlotz has already donated a

set of dishes.

It was voted to order SPJST badges.

Brother Walzel reported that we will have four ceiling fans installed.

Dear Members and Friends: Just a short note of thanks to our nice members who donated to the Gift Booth at the Czech Fest. It was all appreciated. I. especially: want to thank Sister Sophie Olsowski for the crocheted shawl, apron and several table scarves. It was such beautiful work.

I also wish to thank the sisters who helped run the gift booth; namely, Dottie Hagar, Cindy Pokladnik and Bessie Tydlaska.

On behalf of the officers, we want to thank all for their donations and hard work in all areas. The Czech Fest was a great day enjoyed by all.

One more bit of news -- one day this week a $100 check donation was received by the Special Committee from Sister Agnes Kutil. It was donated with love in memory of Brother Leo Kopecky and Brother Willie Ondrusek. Sister Kutil, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts. It will be used toward the parking lot loan.

Lodge 84 House Committee Report

We want to invite all our members and friends to come and see our remodeled bar. It really has turned out beautiful and we all are proud as can be. The four cabinets were built of ash by a cabinet shop at a reasonable price.

All the planning and designing was done by Brother Lionel Schulz and Adolph Salac. The sanding, staining, seal coating, and waxing was done by Brother Adolph and Sister Evelyn Salac at home.

September 8 the following came to the lodge and installed the cabinets; namely, Brothers Lionel Schulz, Paul Pokiadnik, Ron Coker, C.J. Olson, Oldrich Horak and Adolph Salac.

Sisters Ida Schulz, "Pud" Schulz and Evelyn Salac prepared hamburgers, potato salad and cake for lunch. We sincerely thank all these members for the donation of their time. It is very appreciated.

September 10 we came down at 7 p.m. and worked until midnight to get all finished in time for the Czech Fest.

The crew donating time were Brothers Lionel Schulz, Danny Yates with two helpers from his employer's glass company and Adolph Salac. Brother Yates installed the mirrows and glass shelves. Again, we thank all for their help.

Read the Vestnik and the lodge newsletter from our activities. October 19 will be a Tacky Dance. This will be a fun time for all.

It finally rained. and rained and rained. A lot of weekend activities were dampened but we all still were happy to see it as I know most of the state was.

The Blue Room Party was a success after a very slow start on the advance ticket sales. We had a flurry of purchasers just before the deadline.

The food, prepared by Edna and Willie Wehring, was delicious and the Donnie Wavra Orchestra kept everyone dancing to the very end Blue Room Chairman Ed Miculka and his assistant Willie Wehring wish to thank all who helped them sell tickets, those who worked, and those who came out and enjoyed the party. Ed and Royal Warnasch enjoyed giving out the door prizes. Look for another party date to be announced for the month of December.

The Benefit Dance held Friday, September 27 was also a success.

Homer Alexander will have a sizeable check to present to the Abused Children's Fund.

The exercise classes held Monday evenings at 7 o'clock are off to a good start with a good attendance by the ladies of the lodge. It's a fun time with us sweating and breathing hard and Instructor Marie Kostomlatsky learning more English as she puts us through the routines. Sister Marie has recently moved to Houston with daughter, Paula, from Switzerland, although they are originally from Czechoslovakia.

September 19, Margaret Allbritton, Clara Broz, Willie Mendoza, Pat Neskorik, and Edna Wehring hosted a bridal shower at Lodge 88 for Brenda Loyd, bride elect of Greg Wahlberg.

Greg is the son of Jimmy and Bernice Wahlberg, both active members of our lodge. Bernice is currently serving on the Bingo Committee. Many lovely things were received by the bride and the hostesses served refreshments as everyone admired the gifts.

A shower for bride - to - be Vivian Hegwood and her groom, Eddie Baker, was held Sunday, September 29 in the Red Room and dining area, with Wanda Kennedy, Rosalee Kostom, Marceil Malak, Ellen Miculka and Flo Taake as hostesses. Vivian received many lovely gifts and refreshments were served while the guests visited and watched Vivian open the gifts. She is the daughter of King and Helen Hegwood and was-an active member of the lodge youth clubs. It's strange how those "little kids" grow up so fast. King has, for many years, been on the Thursday night popcorn detail and Helen is a sales representative and the lodge guide.

I wonder if everyone is having as much trouble with the Vestnik delivery as we are? I have been told it clears the sorting center in good time but our local post offices may be at fault. The Vestnik is NOT bulk mail -- it's SECOND CLASS mail and should go out before the bulk mail grocery ads.

We seem to get them every Tuesday like clockwork. Maybe the solution is for each of us to go to our branch post offices and complain. The one time I did that, they found the Vestnik there in the bulk mail and after lots of apologies from them, I had very good service. Now we're back to getting the Vestnik Tuesday and Wednesday of the next week. Remind your carrier, also. Maybe he can help get it out on time.

Dear Readers: Lodge 87 held their regular meeting Friday evening, September 13 at 7 p.m. with President Vlasta Jez presiding The meeting was called to order; Jerry Vaichar led the lodge in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance; .members remained standing in silent tribute to deceased members, The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved as read.

Various reports were given and old and new business was discussed.

Brandon Aaron Rainey, new member, was accepted into our lodge; welcome to Brandon.

Frank and Wilma Machalek represented Lodge 87 at the RVOS dinner held in Seaton, Texas at Lodge No. 47.

A special thanks to members volunteering their time to clean thE lodge hall September 16th.

Our next meeting will be held Friday evening, October 11 at 6:30 p.m. A covered dish supper will be served before the business meeting.

Lodge 92 Ft. Worth Report September was really off to a great start with our lodge celebrating its 75th anniversary. And what a grand celebration it was! Think we all had a splendid time visiting with each other and enjoying all the wonderful music provided by the Harold Strand Orchestra, the Dallas Czech Orchestra, and the Lone Star Czechs. It was a music - filled weekend with great memories of the past being shared by all.

There are simply too many people to thank for all their hard work and time in making our 75th anniversary the success it was, so here is a very special THANK YOU to everyone.

The last meeting of SPJST was held Sunday afternoon, September 8 on the spacious patio of Mrs. Lillie K. Hejl's home.

All officers were persent and gave their reports. All correspondence was read from the Supreme Office.

A committee was appointed to adopt a set of rules and regulations to govern proceedings of our local Lodge No. 155. Chairperson Sharon Gavin, Doris Boriskie, Mina Sponberg and Raymond Prasatik were selected.

After some discussion, a committee was appointed to study and establish a definite policy in giving either gifts or flowers and amount to be spent specified during times of serious illness of members, etc. The committee named for this purpose is Gary Chmelir, Donald Gavin and John Bryce Hejl.

We were most happy to have the entire Brian Mikeska family present, especially little Jeffrey, almost 2 years of age, who has had many, many treatments in Anderson Hospital fighting a most serious illness -leukemia. Prayers of friends, relatives, and his 4 - year - old sister Amy's bone marrow transplant are attributed to saving his life. Jeffrey was very busy

Wednesday, October 9, 1985—VISTAK/7 playing with his sister and it was most heartening to see him well and so active. Also members were comforted that our lodge made a contribution toward the family's expenses during their precious son's illness, for which they voiced their sincere gratitude.

Thank you very much for hostessing a lovely party after the meeting, Lillie, with the assistance of your daughter, Marianna Wood. Also thanks and hats off go to Donald Gavin for the outdoor barbecue grilling of Texas size hamburgers on the patio. A large table was soon laden with all the trimmings that go with hamburgers and more.

Balmy ideal weather contributed to a most relaxing afternoon. A large

number of members attended this event.

An important meeting will be held Sunday, October 13, at 3 p.m., at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Sponberg, 4712 Caswell, Phone 459 7179 instead of at the home of Dr. Svatava Jakubson as originally planned. Dr. Jakubson will undergo cataract surgery that week.

Lodge 135 Raises Funds For Foster Parent Project At Annual Dinner/Program The SPJST Lodge No. 135 annual dinner was held Sunday, September 11, at Ennis Sokol. A delicious dinner was enjoyed by members and invited guests. The kitchen ladies prepared stew, klobase, coffee and tea, while members brought a covered dish and pastry.

The well - attended meeting was brought to order by President Tom Valek. President Valek recognized all invited guests.

The lodge was fortunate to have the financial secretary of the Supreme Lodge from Temple, Jerry Mikulas, who spoke to the group on direct billing procedures.

Stan Patak, director of WFLA from Dallas, told about fraternalism and invited everyone to the Czech Day at the Fair October 6th.

Fifty - year pins were presented to Louis Janosek, Leslie Vrla and Jerry Laznovsky by President Valek. Jerry Mikulas, Sylvia Laznovsky, Frank Laznovsky and Millie Vytopil were recognized as past 50 - year members who were present.

Among the invited guests was Lynn Massey who spoke on behalf of Ellis County Foster. Parents. She stated money is needed for a child who is placed in a foster home. Working toward this project is Ade11 Valek and Evelyn Novotny,using donated money.

After the drawing of door prizes,the members and guests enjoyed a cake walk.

We took the residents out for a Pine Stroll one morning and Louise Janc made up this poem which I will share with you.

Welcome back from Polly Ryan Hospital in Richmond is Pauline Mielsch. We are sorry to hear Minnie Schulz is hospitalized in Polly Ryan Hospital and wish her a speedy recovery.

We are glad to hear that Justina Cranek, mother of Dorothy Weems, is home from roily Ryan Hospital in Richmond and is doing fine.

Monday afternoon,- September 9, the Hope Lutheran Church of Beasley came and had services and brought cookies and had a social afterwards.

They also brought gifts for bingo.

The KCs came to play bingo Tuesday evening; September 10 and 24 with the residents. The residents reported a fine time.

Wednesday afternoon, September 11, residents Tony Ondracek, Gert MacKenzie, Annie Stavinoha, Martha Stuchly, Hilda Cole and Almeda Ulrich and Activity Director Martha Marx went to the Bowling Alley to watch them bowl.

Tuesday morning, September 17, residents Tony Ondracek, Agnes Perkins, Hilda Cole, Virgie Richardson and Annie Stavinoha, Volunteer Aurrora Longoria and Activity Director Martha Marx went ;hopping to Wal - Mart in Rosenberg.

Friday, September 27, was "American - Indian Day." The staff and some residents wore hats made with a feather and the tables were decorated with Indian huts. Margie Hall displayed some of her Indian pottery. Also the Good Beginning Nursery marched all the way to the home and sang a few songs. They were all dressed for the parade.

"Happy Birthdays" for the month pf September are residents Betty Wruck, Pauline Mielsch and Millie Uherek,- also Staff Personnel Paul Legendre, Delores Watson, Florence Kramer, Cynthia Foston and Dorothy Weems.

The Birthday Party which was held Friday afternoon, September 27, included Louis Vacek entertaining with the accordion and the piano and singing "Happy Birthday." The "A" Flower and Gift Shop provided the corsages and boutonnieres and Lydia Hortmon, Annie Kramer, Elsie Mahlmann, Melva Hastings and Martha Marx provided the cakes.

Volunteers Edith Schulz, Melva Hastings, Elsie Mahlmann and Lydia Hortmon served the cake, ice cream, coffee and punch to all. The afternoon was enjoyed by everyone.

The CHS of Texas meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. and will be followed immediately by the genealogy workshop. Lunch will be served from 12 to 12:30 p.m. Before the workshop concludes at 4 p.m., participants will have an opportunity to work with Ciech family history experts on a one to - one basis. Some of the speakers at the workshop will be Albert Blaha, Dorothy Bujnoch, Edmund Heil, Jeanne Jacques, Doug Kubicek and Olivia Milberger.

Registration for the first Taroky (Czech card game) Tournament will begin Sunday, October 27th, at 12 noon at the Victoria Community Center Annex on North Street (between Ben Jordan and Ben Wilson Streets.) The tournament will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Other planned activities include a dance, with the music of Wence Shimek, to be held from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Annex.

Donation for the dance will be $2 per person.

Refreshments, Czech books and souvenirs will be available all day.

Registration, which includes Taroky rules and playing cards is $10 per contestant. When registering, please enclose a self addressed - stamped envelope.

Komensky School Reunion August 31st The first Komensky School reunion was held Saturday, August 31, 1985 at the Moulton VFW Hall.

Approximately 500 people were in attendance, including former students, teachers, trustees, .patrons and their spouses.

Registration began at 10 a.m. with everyone reminiscing and renewing acquaintances while enjoying coffee and refreshments.

At noon, Chairman Ermin Bohuslav of Seguin. asked the crowd to gather around the flag and recite the Pledge of Allegiance. A moment of silent prayer was observed in memory of former students who gave their lives for their country; namely,Joe Pelech and Frank Gaier in World War I; and George Pavlicek, Robert Bohuslav, Eugene Holub, Anton Kresta and Rudolph L. Barta in World War II. Ivan Bohuslav of Ennis led the group in smgmg ''God Bless America." Bishop John Morkovsky of Houston asked the blessingafter which a meal of basket lunches was served..

After the meal, Chairman Ermin , Bohuslavpresided at a short meeting.

Prizes were awarded to William Bratrich of Comfort, oldest student present; Frankie Bohuslav of Wichita 'Falls for traveling the farthest; and Mrs. Daniel (Beverly Jasek) Koranek, youngest student present.

Of the three former trustees who are still living, Darwin Vasek and Alex Hrncir, both of Moulton, were present. Willie Kortwig, who is a resident in the nursing home in Hallettsville, was unable to attend.

It was decided to have another reunion the last Saturday in August 1986 at the VFW Hall in Moulton, following the same procedure as this year.

Former teachers who were present and were recognized. included Selma {Kasper) Kuck, Agnes Honc, Mary (Ebner)Whiteley and Matt Hrncir, all of Yoakum; Millie (Elstner) Appelt, C.R. Hrncir, Marie (Pustka) Klekar and -'Jerome I. Kocian, all of Hallettsville;Maxine (McElroy)Mudd of Alvin; Lillie (Halata) Pesek and Sybil Pustejovsky, both of Moulton; Elmo A. Meyer of Woodsboro; Minnie (Sralik) Glover of Victoria; Barbara (Netardus) Pavlas of Schulenburg; Jo Anne Taylor of Seguin; Gilbert Keilers of Flatonia; Mrs. Mary McDonald of Bedias; and Max Seidenberger and Willma (Kloesel)Sonntag of Shiner.

The ladyteachers were presentedred rose keepsake corsages, while the men receivedred rosebud boutonnieres.

The meeting was closed with everyone singing, "Komensky \Vili Shine Tonight."

The remainder of the afternoon was spent visitingand dancing to the music of Leroy & His Swingers with supper following at 6 p.m. after which everyone departed, hoping to meet again next year ..

Dear Readers: The SPJST Lodge 9 meeting was called to order by Loree Kovar October 2nd. Jennifer Hubbard led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The Bryan Czech Fest was reported a real exciting thing. The Kolache Festival in Caldwell was a lot of fun. It was well - attended. I hope everyone had as much fun as I did.

The Bohemian Festival was held October 5 - 7 at Central Park in College Station.

The Scarecrow Festival will be in Chapel Hill and the Snook Brethren Church Youth Rally was set Saturday, October 7th. A volleyball game and film was scheduled.

In April 1986, Snook will have a Snook Fest, parade, and booths will be set up at the City Park. The SPJST will be cleaning up Snook.

If you haven't already paid your dues, pay them now!

We have some new social members Sheila Groce, Shannon Groce, Jamie Hubbard and Jennifer Hubbard.

Our youth club had a campout at our lodge Friday night, September 20, 1985. First, we went on a hayride, then we had a wiener roast. We played all sorts of things. Some of us slept outside in a tent and some of us slept inside. Early in the morning some of the kids who slept inside. made the tent fall. I had a great time and I can't wait until we have it again.

Funeral services for Brother John Slovacek were held at 2 p.m.Tuesday, July 16 in the Snook Brethren Church with Rev. Henry Beseda officiating.

Interment followed in the Snook Cemetery.

Brother Slovacek was born February 12, 1910. He lived in the Snook area most of his life. John married Bessie Warren, January 4, 1952 in Meridian, Mississippi. He was the founder and owner of the Slovacek Sausage Company of Snook. He was a very active person, being a member of the Brethren Church, the Bryan - College

who passed away August 8, 1985.

Funeral services for Milady Valenta were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 10 in the Snook Brethren Church with the Rev. Henry Beseda officiating.

Burial followed in the Snook Cemetery.

Sister Valenta was born November 25, 1909 in Burleson County, Texas. A lifelong resident of Burleson County, she was a homemaker and a member of the Snook Brethren Church and the SPJST Lodge No. 9 of Snook. She was married to Henry Valenta 30 October 1935 in the Caldwell Brethren Church Parsonage by the Rev. F.H. Horak.

Memoriam

Henry F. Tlucek, 78, of Houston, Texas passed away in Herman Hospital September 13, 1985. He was a charter member of St. Justin Catholic Church, a Eucharastic Minister for many years, a member of SPJST Lodge 88 Houston for over 50 years, a member of the Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus. A pharmacist for over 53 years, he owned . Tlucek's Pharmacy in Houston for nearly 32 years. He participated in civic and church activities throughout the city.

His body lay in state at St. Justin the Martyr Catholic Church Sunday where a Rosary and Wake Service preceded the funeral Mass with the Rev. John Vincent Rouse, celebrant, and nephew, Rev. George Olsovsky, co - celebrant. The grandsons served as altar boys; namely, Christopher Andrew Tlucek of Houston and Matthew Henry Bryarly of Victoria.

Interment followed Monday, September 16, in ' - Holy Cross Memorial Park, El Campo, Texas,with a 12 noon graveside service.

Monsignor James Brunner also presided at the graveside services.

Pallbearers were son - in - law, William J. Goerig of El Campo, and grandsons, Christopher Goerig of Temple, Gregory Goerig and Jeffrey Goerig of El Campo, son - in - law, Robert P. Bryarly, grandson, Robert Bryarly of Victoria,and nephew, Ed Hrncir of El

Campo.

Survivors include his wife, Anne Tlucek; three daughters, Cynthia Ann and son - in - law, William Goerig of El Campo; Hyacinthe Joyce Tlucek of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Melicent Marie and son - in - law, Robert Bryarly of Victoria; son, Timothy Tlucek and daughter - in - law, Sue of Houston; eleven grandchildren; a brother, Victor Tlucek of Edna; and a sister, Otillie Turanyik of El Campo.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Charles Tlucek of El Campo.

Migl Vanek Wed At Our Lady Of Victory Monica Martha Migl became the bride of James Edward Vanek Saturday, September 7, 1985 at 1 p.m. in Our Lady of Victory Cathedral. The Rev. Kenneth Mikulik officiated at the couple's double ring wedding ceremony. Victor Novak served as the lector.

Miss Migl is the daughter of Mrs. Mark J. Migl of Victoria and the late Mark J. Migl. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Matt S. Vanek, also of Victoria.

Jean Wilkinson, organist, played traditional wedding selections and marches. She accompanied Scott Wilkinson, who sang "The Wedding Song," "The Lord's Prayer," "Endless Love," " Just. You and I" and "Annie's Song."

Given in marriage by her mother, Miss Migl chose a formal gown fashioned of white organza. The bodice held a sheer yoke of organza, enha0ed with Schiffli lace. The yoke rose to a wedding band collar of silk Venise lace. Matching lace aid[ bridal pearls traced the yoke and overlaid the fitted bodice. The long, fitted sleeves

were appliqued with lace motifs and extended into petal points at the bride's wrists. The A - line skirt fell to a lace border and swept into a chapel length train. A pyramid of lace :.nhanced the front of the skirt and the train. Bridal pearls frosted the lace throughout the gown.

A wreath of silk flowers and pearls was accented with a pouf of illusion at the back and caught the bride's double - tiered, fingertip length veil of silk illusion.

Miss Migl wore a diamond necklace and diamond earrings, gifts from the groom, and carried a cascade of Cymbidium orchids, tuberoses, alstroemeria lilies, gypsophilia, plumosa fern and white satin streamers.

Gail Kocian attended her sister as matron of honor. The maid of honor was Susan Migl, sister of the bride.

Bridesmaids included Melissa Migl, Sandra Vanek and Susan Grahmann.

Holly Nevlud and Kelly Angell attended as the flower girl and ring bearer.

The attendants wore formal gowns

12/VESTNili Wednesday, October 9, 1985 fashioned of cotillion blue fantanza over taffeta. The elongated bodices held off - the shoulder necklines. The gathered, bustled skirts were adorned with ruffles.

The attendants wore alstroemeria lilies and baby's breath attached to combs in their hair and carried stems of alstroemeria lilies, accented with gypsophilia, plumosa fern and cotillion blue and white satin streamers.

Dennis Vanek served his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Matthew, Kenneth and Thomas Vanek, all brothers of the groom, and Dennis Zarosky.

Ushers included Theo Kocian, Dennis McAdams, Arthur Zarosky and Stanley Barta.

Witnesses were Susan Migl and Stanley Barta.

A reception, dinner and dance were held at the VFW Hall following the wedding. Members of the house party were Mary Beth Novak, Cindy Vyvjola, Mary Kay Migl, Connie Migl, Rose Ann Dubicki, Mrs. Cindy Wright, Mrs. Wendy Hrncir, Mrs. Leroy Repka, Mrs. Herb Cole, Mrs. Larry Reyna, Mrs. Matthew Vanek, Mrs. Willie Mareth, Mrs. Annie Orsak, Mrs. Mary Taylor, Mrs. Victor KaImus and Mrs. David Angell.

Following wedding travel to Miami.

Florida, and to the Caribbean, the couple will-reside in Victoria.

The groom's parents hosted the rehearsal dinner at their home.

The bride, a 1981 magna cum laude graduate of Stroman High School, is an honor graduate of Victoria College.

She was a member of the National Honor Society and the National Junior Honor Society at Stroman and was on the dean's list and a member. of Phi Theta Kappa at Victoria College. She is employed as a secretary in the marketing department of Foremost Petroleum.

The groom graduated from the University of Texas in 1978 with a BBA degree. He did graduate work at the University of Houston. He was on the dean's list at the University of Texas and a member of the Vanek Brothers Band. The groom is employed as the assistant hospital administrator of the Lavaca Medical Center in Hallettsville.

Mrs. Louis A. Migl and Mrs. Lillie Huder were special guests.

The groom, his parents, District VI Director Matt and Henrietta Vanek, and his brothers, are all members of Lodge 32.

Sister Julianna Kozuch, Sister of Divine Providence, received the Margil Award for outstanding contributions toward the awareness and promotion

of the Catholic ethnic tradition and values at the Texas Folklife Mass at the Villita Assembly Hall held August 4, 1985..

Sister Julianna, a founding member and current secretary of the Czech Cultural and Educational Foundation, was nominated by the Czech Group.

Brother Richard Daly, CSC Executive Director of the Texas Catholic Conference of Austin, presented the award. This award is named for the Venerable Antonio Margil, the apostle of Texas who founded the San Jose Mission. Each ethnic group of the Texas Catholic Conference of Community Ethnic Affairs nominates one individual for the award. Bishop John Morkovsky, one of the founders of the TCCCEA, presided at the ceremony and read the gospel in the Czech language. Sister Julianna is treasurer of the TCCCEA. July 9, 1985, Sister Julianna was honored as a community leader at a luncheon during American Heritage Week at Lackland Air Force Base.

This observance by the Electronic Security Command recognizes the contribution of various ethnic and cultural groups of our country. Sister Julianna was selected for this honor because of her involvement in .•• organizations that strive to promote knowledge, understanding, and appreciation of the Czech culture in all its forms.

Sister Julianna Kozuch is a native of Wallis, Texas and currently Assistant Professor at Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, Texas.

Ceske hry v Brne se oviem hrely ul davno a vObec prvni desdivadelni pfedstaveni „ZamilovanY ponocny" tu bylo uspofadeno v nedeli 11. ledna 1767. V mestskem divadle se vtak odedavna hrevalo jen nemecky a Ceti, podobne jako kdysi v pralskern Stavovskem divadle, se museli spokojit s ojedinelYm pfedstavenim v nedeli odpoledne. Zapalenemu lidovernu publiku jinak sloulila jen jevitfatka v pfedmestskYch hostincich, kde se stfidaly Kane ko6ovne spoleOnosti.
