ATTENTION: Domino Players The 1st Annual SPJST Domino Tournament is now underway® All members interested in participating should contact their lodge officers.

Winners at the local lodge level will then participate in the State Playoffs with the schedule as follows: Straight Dominoes -- September 21st 42 -- October 5th. Both dates begin 10 a.m.

We are looking forward to a great turnout and a good time.

Attention District VII Members District Vii social get - together will be September 22, 1985 hosted by Lodge 79, Corpus Christi; they will have food available about 12 o'clock and then all afternoon.

If we can start the planned events about 1 o'clock until 4 or 5 o'clock, there will still be plenty of time for the members who came a long way to get home before it is too late in the night.

We will have a short, short meeting at 1 o'clock to appoint any committees and a spring meeting site.

Lodge 107 Floresville and Lodge 133 San Antonio had excellent turnouts of their fall social meetings so let's get to Lodge 79, Corpus Christi and have a great day there, also.

The spring meeting was held at Lodge 185, New Braunfels, March 17, 1985.

District President Emil Matula called the meeting.to order at 1 p.m.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by April Haag. At this time Sister Maxine Pavliska, DYC, presented Ann Therese Matcek to give her reading titled "Peanut Butter Sandwich."

Sister Pavliska reported on the 1984 spring meeting which was held in Corpus Christi, Lodge 79. The youth went to Magic Isles; YAD was held in Floresville and District VII winners went to State YAD where 7 first places were won. District VII camp was attended by youth leaders, assistant youth leaders and youth from Lodges 79, 107, 117 and 185.

The fall meeting was held by the river, hosted by Lodge 107 at Pavliska's farm. The SPJST was well represented at the Longhorn Recreation Lab at Brownwood.

Leaders' Retreat at Lone Star Camp was attended by Lodges 107 and 117.

District Youth Leaders' Training Class would be held April 13 in Floresville.

Camp dates are June 5, 6, 7 and 8; July 7 District YAD at Lodge 79. This concluded Sister Pavliska's report.

The District VII youth went bowling while the District VII meeting continued.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

The 50 - year membership presentation was postponed to the fall meeting. A letter from SL President Howard Leshikar was read in which he stated that he was unable to attend the meeting; he will be attending the meeting of National Fraternal Congress. This meeting will most likely concern itself with the taxing of fraternities.

Brother Ernest Jasek, treasurer, gave the following report: Youth Club Fund -- $88.23; General Fund -$449.69.

Sister Helen Pavelka introduced District VII Director Thelma Hrncir.

In her report she stressed that sales

representatives try to write policies in the amount of $5,000. SPJST has a good product and it is a good organization. The scholarships are for the purpose to give assistance tc qualified students who are members of the SPJST and have insurance in the amount of $5,000. Mortgage loan rate is 121/2 percent and money is available for real estate loans. Annuity is 111/2 percent and it is a good plan, especially good for young people. Direct billing is being accepted by many lodges.

Sister Hrncir announced that the SL now has hired a State Youth Counselor, Sue Meadows.

Rest Homes Director Eugene Hrncir reported on the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes. Repairs were made on the rest homes which included new generators in both for heat and light in case of power failure. This was done according to State Specifications. Both homes are filled to capacity and there always is a long waiting list.

Sister Helen Pavelka introduced Brother Jerry Mikulas, SL Financial/Secretary, his wife, Betty, and son.

Brother Jerry Mikulas presented checks for General Fund -- $450 (out of this amount $100 to the host lodge for holding the District VII meeting.)

Camp Fund allocations, 80 percent -$2,797. $100 will be given to the lodge that hosts District VII YAD. He explained direct billing and already several lodges are asking for it. If a lodge goes to direct, billing, the lodge will be getting the 8 percent refund as usual. In 1985 premium refunds will be sent directly to members. There will be paid up options -- if a member wishes to continue in receiving his/her check or it can be added to the policy and it will increase your insurance amount.

When one makes a decision on one of the options, there is no switching.

Universal Life -- Single Premium Life will be offered to members.

Brother Manila, Publication Committee member, reported that in 1985 headings in the Vestnik will be published in darker ink and will be easier to read.

Under new business, the Nominating Committee Chairman Monta Foster presented the following recommendation: President Bob Bayer (Lodge 107), 1st Vice President Helen Pavelka (Lodge 117), 2nd Vice President Monta Foster (Lodge 79), Secretary Betty Jurica (Lodge 117), Treasurer Ernest Jasek (Lodge 185), District Youth Counselor Maxine Pavliska (Lodge 107), Assistant DYC Polly Bayer (Lodge 107), and Rest Homes Director Eugene Hrncir (Lodge 79).

A motion was made by Brother Billy Pavliska that all nominated be elected by acclamation; seconded by Brother Frank Veselka. Motion carried.

Next District VII meeting will be hosted by Lodge 79, Corpus Christi in September. Date to be announced later.

6 Cottonwood Holds September Meeting

Lodge

The regular monthly meeting of SPJST Lodge 6 was held at 3 p.m.

Sunday, September 8, 1985 with President Robert Dobecka calling on Kevin Dobecka and Keith Hykel to lead the membership in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. Kevin then led the SPJST Pledge.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.

Correspondence was read from the Supreme Lodge.

Sister Willie Mae Schuetz reported the youth took cakes to the rest home August 7 and they had a Tupperware Party August 19th. The youth did very well on the Tupperware Party.

Memorials were given to the Cystic Fibrosis Fund and Therese Dobecka Scholarship Fund. The State Scholarship winner was Shirley Dobecka who also placed in Arts and Crafts along with Lynette Hykel. In the top ten youth from our lodge were Shirley Dobecka, third; Kevin Dobecka, fourth; Tammi Dobecka, sixth. Sister Schuetz thanked everyone who helped in anyway at Westfest and also those who donated ingredients and helped make kolache and strudels.

The youth will be going bowling September 29 and then to Six Flags October 13, 1985. We are going to start on our Christmas projects soon; our Christmas Party will be December 1, 1985.

Board of Trustees' meeting report was given by Brother George- Straten.

He thanked everyone who helped at Westfest in any way. The membership thanked Howard Clark for donating the use of his booth at Westfest. Also, they set the date for the Christmas Party which will be December 1st.

The $10 door prize drawn was Monroe J. Lander, not present; $10 — Charles Kutscherousky, not present; $4 Frankie Lee Uptmore, not present; and the $2 prize was won by Lydia Dobecka.

The next Board of Trustees' meeting will be Friday, October 4, and the next regular meeting will be Sunday, October 6sat 3 p.m.

15, Buckholts Meeting Report

Dear Members: We really did have a good rain here at Buckholts, maybe we are going into the rainy period of the year.

Everything sure does look nice and clean.

After a delicious sausage supper prepared by Cel Marak, President Ann Balusek opened the regular monthly meeting by leading the members and guests in the Pledge of Allegiance. We remained standing for our departed Brother Louis Svetlik. May he rest in peace.

President Balusek welcomed our guests, Gene Marak, Lillie Zajicek and Dan Balusek.

"Happy Birthday" is wished to Valasta Kamenicky, Anton Svetlik and Leslie Sakeviitz. Hope you all have many more.

The minutes and all committee reports were approved as read. Thank you note was read by Secretary Charlsie Svetlik from the Buckholts Fire Department for the donation and a letter from President Howard Leshikar and a letter from the Supreme Lodge about loans and direct billing.

President Ann thanked everyone for helping install the new refrigerator, especially Joe and Lillie Zajicek. A discussion was held on doing some repair work on the roof. The State "42" Domino Tournament will be held at Lodge 15, October 12th at 10 a.m. The winners of our local Lodge "42" Tournament were Frank Kamenicky and Warren Hillman. Lodge 24 Cyclone Meeting Dear Readers: Our September meeting was called to order by President David Vanicek.

We wish a speedy recovery to Mrs. L.B. Haisler who is in the hospital.

Pat Vanicek read the minutes of the last meeting, board reports were given and committee chairmen gave their reports.

Those signed up to go to the State Fair, October 6th need to send money to Arleen Tschoerner at Route 3, Box 705, Temple, Texas 76501, the amount is $12 per person. You may bring snacks and bring drinks in a small ice chest. The bus will leave Temple at 7 a.m. and will leave Dallas at 5:30 p.m., meet at the bus station in Temple.

Czech Singers Of Dallas Have 3rd Place Float

Lodge 88 Houston News The Blue Room Party tickets are still on sale at the cost of $10 per ticket for the evening of September 22nd. This price includes a barbecue beef dinner, a dance by The Donnie Wavra and The Hi - Liters Band," and your favorite beverage all evening. The doors to the Chandelier Ballroom open at 3:30 p.m., with cocktails served from 4 o'clock on. The dance will be from 5 until 9 p.m. with a dinner intermission around 5:30 p.m. The Blue Room Committee has gathered some nice door prizes; groceries, a pot plant, turkeys, a fancy calendar, a doll, and dance tickets. Herman Liebscher passed away in the Intensive Care Unit of a local hospital. He is survived by his daughter, Carol Bruce, her husband, J.R., and four grandchildren, two sisters, and some nieces and nephews.

Herman was a social member of Lodge 88 and was active in the Men's Club and the Entertainment Committee and, at one time, was a member of the Social Night Committee. His services were from Heights Funeral Home Monday, September 9 . with burial, in Giddings, Texas, late that day. May God be with his surviving family in time of sorrow.

The Vrazels play in our ballroom this Saturday, September 21st. This band plays polkas, waltzes, and country/western music.

Saturday, September 28, the big band sounds of the Al Pierson Big Band USA ring out at our lodge. These tickets are now on sale in the lodge office. Buy your tickets and make your reservations.

Coordinator, has scheduled a benefit dance with all proceeds going to the abused children in the Harris County area. Tickets are $4 and the dance is from 8:30 to 12:30 p.m. This is a very worthy cause and we need to support this benefit effort even if we hate to admit to ourselves that anyone would abuse children.

88 September Meeting Report

Monday, September 9th, the membership of Lodge 88 held its regular monthly meeting. Jefferey Barcak, standing in for Flagbearer Vincent Hegwood who has begun his attendance at the University of Texas, presented the flag and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Following the reading of the minutes of the August meeting and the correspondence, Secretary Malak read the list of applications for members.

There were 25 new applicants and 1 transfer which were accepted.

Sister Clara Broz, first vice president, reported the winners of the Domino Tournament held August 17th. These winners will participate in the State Tournament. We wish them the best of luck.

Financial reports were read by our Financial Secretary and Treasurer.

Sister Marie Stayton, youth leader, reported that our youth club members are making good progress toward earning the money needed for the banner they want. Please support our youth when they ask for your help.

First place State Craft and Talent winners were introduced. Also, three groups of Beseda dancers will be performing at the State Fair, October 6th.

Entertainment Committee Chairman Harley Cox informed us of the success of the Big Band dances held

The Board of Trustees has not settled on a bid for the all - purpose building. However, the gazebo has been painted, the gutters have been cleaned and painted, and plans to give the canopy a face - lift are underway.

Sister Kosut read a 2 - month report of charity and volunteer work with staggering amount of hours and donations. Our members are doing a great job of fraternalism.

Sister Marian Kadlecek is attempting to form a Young Single's Club to interest an age group who seems to have need for an interest in our lodge. If you are interested in helping her or joining her, please contact Marian.

And now, for those of you ladies who feel the need to "move" a little more, why not join the exercise class on Monday nights at 7 p.m.

The Rules and Regulations Committee was reminded that a meeting should be set soon to prepare for its report at the annual meeting.

Anyone wishing to suggest a proposal to this committee must submit it no later than the October lodge meeting, October 14th.

Abuse Committee At Lodge 88, Houston Sponsors Benefit Dance Child

Don't forget the benefit dance Friday, September 27, with music by The Texas Brew. We all know this band is top - notch country and western and everyone always has a good time at their dance. Tickets are on sale at the lodge office and are $4 each so why not give Shirley Stonaker or Josephine Pflughaupt a call and reserve your table before it slips your mind. Here it is September already, it hardly seems possible that summer is behind us, and summer vacations are now only memories. The children are back in school, and all sports' fans are back in front of the TV every Monday night, so let's turn our thoughts to some enjoyable time before the rush of the holidays is upon us.

September 21 & 22 -- We have a double fun weekend coming up.

Saturday night we have the wonderful Texas Brew playing for your dancing pleasure. Sunday, a dinner and dance FREE to members, $6 for adult non members and $3 for non - member children. Dinner is from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and dancing will be from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. Music Sunday will be by the Vaneks (variety music).

September 28 -- Come spend the evening with the Wilderness, a very fine country and western band. They do an excellent job on all music that is requested.

OctolTer 5 -- All country fans should plan on this one evening for the really good sounds of the Highway Country Band.

October 12 -- Al Pierson and his Big Band USA will, once again, fill the Grand Ballroom with the sound of a really BIG BAND. Everyone will enjoy this fine music, all of you ballroom music fans need to make plans to attend. Tickets are on sale at the Grand Ballroom at 3609 Preston, advance tickets are $10 per person or $12.50 per person at the door. To reserve your favorite table you need to buy your tickets early.

October 19 -- Lee Roy Matocha, once again, will be here for your dancing pleasure, so all of you Lee Roy fans do come out and support your favorite band.

October 26 -- Texas Brew, everybody's favorite band will be back, so come on out for a great evening of fun.

November 3 -- Come celebrate the 3rd Anniversary of the Grand Ballroom! Dinner from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. and dancing at 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. with music by Just Country.

November 8 -- The Original River Road Boys will, be performing this last of the Friday night dances, so let's make this one a real success.

Family Expresses Gratitude Baethe

August 12, 1985, there was a beautiful occasion at Lodge 88 in Houston for our dear mother, Annie Baethe, age 96. She outlived her insurance policy so the SPJST Supreme Lodge, represented by Secretary/Treasurer Leonard Mikeska, presented her with a check.

She also had the pleasure of receiving a beautiful corsage from the Birthday Club. It was presented to her by the club president, Sister Pearl Hanka. Our mother loves the lodge and is a charter member of the Birthday Club and misses attending its meetings as well as all other functions at the lodge.

We are grateful to all who did so much to make this a memorable occasion for our dear mother.

Heritage Society Of Texas Czech

Grant Tax Exempt Status The Czech Heritage Society of Texas was officially informed on 16 July 1985 that the Internal Revenue Service has determined the organization is exempt from Federal Income Tax. This is good news and means several nice things.

First, we need not pay income tax on our income or donations, etc., that are received, but more important is the fact that persons, families or companies making any donations to the Czech Heritage Society of Texas may deduct such contributions from their taxable income. Families will find that not only is their donation deductible but their remaining tax base and rate is reduced! Persons, families or companies interested in making a contribution are urged to contact Albert J. Blaha, Sr., 9174 Westview, Houston, Texas, 77055, for more details.

Plans have already been started for the establishment of a Czech Heritage Foundation Trust Fund to be administered by a Board of Directors made up of the donors. It is hoped that procedures will be established which will use only the interest or income from the Trust Fund to further the objectives of The Czech Heritage Society of Texas. This will include grants or stipends, donations or gifts and perhaps scholarships to individuals or groups who help preserve our Czech Heritage by doing research, and then publishing their efforts and findings.

CZECH GENEALOGISTS Studying the Czech Language There are hundreds of genealogists of Czech ancestry who are currently compiling data on their Czech or Moravian family history. This research involves the translation of old documents from the family trunk, but also letters and certificates now available from the Archives in Czechoslovakia through the Czech Embassy in Washington, D.C. These Czech genealogists are looking for Czech translators but many have developed an interest in learning enough of the Czech language vocabulary to be able to read and interpret the letters and documents themselves. Many are now enrolled in the various Czech language classes being taught in Texas. They have happily found that their Czech heritage and the Czech language go hand - in - hand. The Czech instructors have taken note of this increased interest and are helping these Czech genealogists in their endeavors.

Perhaps this increased interest in our Czech heritage will help somewhat to foster and promote endeavors in the study of the Czech language.

WANTED Photographs of Czech Immigrants There are four persons in Czechoslovakia currently compiling data on the early Czech and Moravian emigrants who came to Texas. This data will be put into books to be made available for distribution in Texas.

Two of these researchers already each have over 200 entries for families who left their area.

The compilers are asking for photographs of the persons or families who came to Texas for inclusion in their books.

If you have a photograph of your immigrant ancestor, you need to forward a copy which can be sent to the compilers in Czechoslovakia. Do not send the originals. Your bank will

MISSING PASSENGER LISTS Twenty - six newly - found passenger lists will be included in a new book being prepared for publication soon.

These passenger lists include vessels into Galveston and a few into Indianola from the ports of Bremen and Hamburg for the years 1850 1855. The majority of the passengers are of German origin but some are Polish and Czech. Also included will be twenty - one passenger lists which duplicate the Geues' lists but from a different source.

These passenger lists were located by a researcher in Hamburg in 1984 and 1985. The research, while slow, is continuing for inclusion in succeeding volumes.

The decision was made to publish what is on hand in smaller volumes rather than wait to release the total information. Several families have written in and their ancestors were found.

If you have looked through Chester and Ethel Hander Geue's books and did not find your immigrant ancestors, it then becomes a better bet they may be on these new lists! Robstown Youth Club Activities

The deadline for registering for the Six Flags trip is now over but if you failed to register you may contact me and we may have a seat fdr you. At this time the count is not in yet but if we have seats available you may be in luck. Full and final details ate planned for next week's Vestnik. A reminder that food will not be furnished and everyone is responsible for their own food and drinks but you may . take your • lunch from home if you :prefer or snacks to eat on the way there or back.

The Robstown No. 117 Youth Club began the youth club year 1985 - 1986 with a bang. First thing on the agenda was Camp Lone Star at La Grange held June 5, 6, 7 and 8; eight members attended, plus three adults. It was a fun camp; punk night, shaving cream fight and water balloons. The "ropes" was a new activity and enjoyed by all.

In May the following officers were elected, namely, President Brad Ellzey, Vice President Su P Baker, Secretary Krissy Draper, 'treasurer Laura Landin, Sgt. - at a - Arms Jennifer Hoing and Reporter Darryl Foster.

June 15 meeting and no other activity; the club was getting:ready to go to Astroworld and was saving their

money for that trip. Twenty youth clubbers and chaperones made the trip June 22 and 23.

June 29 -- Beach trip which is always fun beachcombing and playing in the surf.

July was a busy month, beginning with the District VII YAD which was hosted by Lodge 79, Corpus Christi.

Robstown Youth Club won fourteen first places, plus several second and third places total 30 ribbons.

July 9, 10 and 11 District VII outing at State Park Bastrop; a total of fourteen attended. This was a fun - for - all camp. Swimming, hikes and games were enjoyed every day. The 10th late evening Trey Bielefeld fell and broke his arm; several youth were on a hike and this happened a short distance from camp. He was taken to Bastrop Hospital and that same night he was taken to Austin. Trey is a good sport and took this in good stride. (He had surgery on his arm in San Antonio and now he is doing fine.)

July 13, regular meeting was held.

Birthday person for July was Ben Hill.

Movie trip followed the birthday party.

July 28, group of 15 took a trip to Lake Corpus Christi; swimming and paddle boats enjoyed by the youth. A cookout and hot dogs with all the trimmings were served in the evening.

August 10, a small group went bowling to Ayeres Bowling Alley followed by supper at Pizza Inn. August 18 was State YAD in Temple. We left August 17; did some shopping at the Mall, later that evening went swimming where we met a group from Lodge 79.

At State YAD, Jennifer Marek won 1st in Handicraft and 2nd in Hobby Kits; Donald Marek placed 3rd in Science/Educational; Darryl Foster received 1st in Handicraft; Joe Landin, 3rd in Foods and Construction Items. The Scrapbook placed first in the State, all of Lodge 117 Youth Club members are overjoyed. A scrapbook is lots of work; it takes a whole year of picture taking and collecting items of interest; so far, we already have a good start for 1985 - 1986.

Our regular monthly meeting was held August 23 with good attendance of fourteen youth members and five adults and three guests, namely, Erica

Meeting to be held December 7. To this meeting the youth members are asked to bring 2 or more gayly wrapped gifts which will be donated to a nursing home. Annual shopping trip to Padre - Staples Mall after the meeting. Nutcracker Ballet and Christmas Tree Forest, December 15.

She is staying in the home of Jennifer Hoing. Birthday people for August were Stefnie Hill and guest, Alex Landin. Project for August was school supplies for abused children, they were delivered August 22 by the youth leader and assistant youth leader. Movie trip followed the Birthday Party after the meeting.

August 29, the Newsletter Committee met and worked out a newsletter which was mailed to the youth club members.

The youth club had their meeting Sunday, September 8, 1985 at 2:15 p.m.

The club donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Fund, Theresa Dobecka Scholarship Fund and sent flowers to two people in the hospital.

At State YAD, Shirley Dobecka won the $1,000 Scholarship, along with places in Arts and Crafts. Also placing in Arts and Crafts was Lynette Hykel.

Among the top ten youth in points were Shirley Dobecka, Kevin Dobecka and Tammi Dobecka. Congratulations to all!

The youth will be going bowling September 29th. Also, in October they will be going to Six Flags.

Youth Leader Willie Mae Schuetz thanked all the youth and members who helped make kolache, donated ingredients for the kolache and all the people who worked at Westfest.

Birthdays for September are Amy Hromadka and Robert Lenart.

Shirley Dobecka will bring the birthday cake for October.

9, Snook Youth Enjoy Outing Lodge

Dear Readers, Our monthly meeting was well attended. We had five visitors. We also saw a film.

Saturday, September 7th, we had a party in the Snook City Park. We played baseball and had a hot dog

Christmas Party, gag gift exchange and followed by a trip to see the Aldridge Christmas Display when thousands of people come view the beautiful artistic display at the home of Billy Aldridge. Every year a new attraction is added. Cakes will be taken to Westwood Manor Nursing Home, December 22.

In January regular monthly meeting, afterwards a movie trip. Livestock Show is always a big attraction.

It will be held January 16, 17, and 18.

January 25 is a fun trip to Padre Staples Mall and eat out.

February Charity Project -- Cakes will be decorated for Valentine and

delivered the 13 or 15. Meeting, followed by a Valentine Party, homemade Valentine contest and games. Bowling trip February 22; to eat out at Pizza Inn. This concludes the list of activities through February.

The club also made a donation to the John John Boulware Kidney Fund.

If youth club members decide on other additional activities throughout this period, they may do so. New ideas are always accepted.

13, Dime Box YC Discuss Activities Lodge

Dear Members, The SPJST Lodge No. 13 held their meeting August 25, 1985 at Spacek's tank. The monthly meeting was called to order by President Chelli Fritz.

Secretary Susan Spacek called the roll and read the minutes of the last meeting. Then Treasurer Jennifer Gold read the treasurer's report.

Old and new business topics were discussed. We talked about making projects and ideas for YAD. We also talked about who would work at the dunking booth at the Firemen's Picnic September 1st. The last thing discussed was that our meetings would go back to every third Sunday.

After the meeting, the members swam and ate hot dogs and marshmallows.

Dear Vestnik Readers, The Taiton SPJST Youth Club held their September meeting September 1, 1985 at the Taiton Community Center.

The meeting was called to order by President Michelle Srubar.

The minutes were read by Kim Dornak and the treasurer's report was given by Jean Dorotik.

State YAD winners were discussed.

For a charity project we donated to Muscular Dystrophy.

Contest winners in the following ages 6 - 9 were: Michael Kaspar, 1st; Lenice Kaspar, 2nd; they made a pencilholder. In ages 15 - 17 were Jean Dorotik, 1st; Marcy Dorotik, 2nd; Michelle Srubar, 3rd; they made a school box.

Door prize winners were Jason Kaspar, Lenice Kaspar, Marcy Dorotik, Michelle Srubar, Jean Dorotik, Kim Dornak and Amy Kresta.

Georgia Dorotik and Joyce Kahanek served refreshments. We had rice crispers, cupcakes and punch.

Bryan Lodge 39 Youth Club News Dear Readers, Lodge 39 had its monthly meeting September 8 at the lodge home at 2 p.m. We had eleven members in attendance.

Our next social will be a campout at the hall with a hayride and wiener roast.

Our next big fund - raiser will be our craft and bake sale at Post Oak Mall, October 18, 19 and 20. Come out and see our goodies.

After the adult meeting we all enjoyed a potluck supper.

Lodge 40 Youth Club Meeting Dear Vestnik Readers, The El Campo - Hillje Lodge 40 Youth Club held their monthly meeting September 5, 1985. The September meeting was held at the American Legion Auxiliary Hall in El CaMpo at 7 p.m.

The meeting was called to order by President Lori Holub. We were led in the Pledge of Allegiance by member Patrick Bartos. We then listened to the minutes of the August meeting which were read by Secretary Danny Borak.

Jody Henderson gave us a report about State YAD. She and several other youth members attended this event August 18 in Temple.

We were then reminded of the District VI meeting in November. The meeting will be held at the Victoria Community Center.

The thirteen club members who were present wished a "Happy Birthday" to Pam Brandt.

Our September contest was about Labor Day. The younger members in ages 6 to 10 each created a drawing of a working person. The older group in ages 11 to 17 wrote one or two paragraph compositions or poems about Labor Day. The contest winners were (ages 6 - 10): 1st, Martha Bartos; 2nd, Danny Borak; 3rd, Jared Dybala; 4th, Sharon Borak. In (ages 11 to 17): 1st, Kim Kacal; 2nd, Veronica Bartos; 3rd, Darrin Dybala.

After the meeting everyone enjoyed cokes and cookies provided , by Mrs. Adamcik. Our next meeting will be October 3rd.

Bryan Youth Club Held Activities Dear Readers, Lodge 39 Youth Club held its monthly meeting Sunday, September 8.

The door prizes were won by Shannon Wilson and Amy Schmidt.

Our craft for the day was to personalize large plastic tea tumblers.

After the meeting we enjoyed programs by different youths.

Youth Club Visits Museum

SPJST Lodge 49 Youth Club visited the Barrow's Museum just east of Eola, August 29th. The museum is part of the past of this part of the country. There was a large collection of arrow heads from Indians who were native to this country, also some clothes and tools that they used.

It also had large collections that people had collected for 60 to 80 years, such as pictures, statues, and puzzles of cats. It is a whole room of things that a lady had collected for the 40 years of her life.

We saw tractors, combines, and plows that were used many, many years ago.

After spending 2 1/2 hours visiting the past, we all loaded up and went to members Charlotte and Brent Halfmann's home for hot dogs and fun. We, all enjoyed our tour and supper.

Stmortain Expression Of Sympathy All the members of Lodge Vytrvalost No. 138, express their deepest sympathy to the family of JOHNNY ZAJICEK, who passed away August 17, 1985 in a Houston hospital.

Funeral services were held in St. James Lutheran Church with Rev. Don Marquart officiating with the Hillyard Yoas Post 346 carrying out a military service with burial in the City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Carl Zajicek, Adolph Zajicek, Jr., Dwayne Taylor, Jim Hastings, Alvin R. Quebe, Joe T. Hodde.

Honorary pallbearers were Harold 'Fowler, J.B. Houssen, Mike Gregurek, Henry Sulak, Joe Hafernick, Raymond Boehm, Raymond Kuretsch.

Brother Johnny Zajicek was born February 26, 1917 in Ganado, Texas.

He was married to Elizabeth (Alice) Koenning, September 15, 1940.

Johnny retired in September 1980 after operating the Ganado Feed Store for 32 years.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; one daughter, Linda R. Peters of Angleton; four sons, James and Raymond of Ganado, Gene of Louisiana and David of Sugarland; a sister, Emilie Krajcik of Victoria; a brother, Robt. Zajicek of Ganado and 10 grandchildren.

May our departed brother rest in peace.

Rodenbeck Crim Wedding Zina Gay Rodenbeck and Gary Mark Crim exchanged marriage vows in St. Mary's Catholic Church in Taylor Saturday, August 17, 1985. The Rev. Lonnie Urban performed the 4 p.m. ceremony before an altar featuring white silk floral arrangements of tiger lilies, gladioli, stock fern and greenery. Brass candelabra accented with silk flowers and greenery completed altar decorations.

The bride is the daughter of Pete Rodenbeck of Thorndale and Amy Hartman of Taylor. She is the granddaughter of Mrs. Winnie Rodenbeck of Thorndale.

The bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Crim of Caldwell. He is the grandson of Mrs. Albert Biehle of Rockdale.

Wedding selections were offered by Mrs. Patsy 13artosh, organist,and Glen Spence, vocalist.

Terri Crim, sister of the groom, attended the bride as maid of honor.

She was dressed in cherry wine taffeta with a tea - length skirt and ivory lace and satin blouse accented with a teal cummerbund.

Bridesmaids were Debbie Stack, Polly Bachler, Leslie Wright, Lori Menzel and Sue Ann Nelson.

They were wearing dresses to match the maid of honor with teal skirts and cherry wine cummerbunds.

Laurie Talley was flower girl. She was dressed in ivory satin and lac,: complemented by teal and cherry wine ribbons in her hair. She carried ivory lace parasol accented with silk roses and teal and cherry wine ribbons.

Keith Crim attended his brother as best man. Groomsmen were Tommy Morris, Bubba Smith, Michael Biehle, Doug Davenport and Tim Brown.

Ushets were Craig Biehle, Ken Stony, Kevin Russell and John Urbanovsky.

Drew Davenport was ring bearer.

Candlelighters were John Urbanovsky and Kevin Russell.

The bride entered the church with, her father. She wore an original ivory silk gown. The bodice was heavily beaded peau de soie, French chantilly and Alencon lace, designed with an off the - shoulder portrait neckline, juliet sleeves, lace appliques and a scalloped hemline. The back of the great skirt featured cascades of crystal pleating that extended to a cathedral train.

She wore a jeweled Alencon lace hat.

The bridal bouquet was a teardrop of miniature burgundy - tipped ivory roses, burgundy - tipped orchids, and greenery with ribbons in shades of teal, burgundy and ivory lace and satin.

A reception was held at the Thorndale Firemen's Hall. Members of the houseparty included Wynona Schwarz, Barbie Leech, Lorianne Bland, Pam Rush, Rebecca Caffey, Laurel Davis, Holly Davis, Laurie Sims, Emmi Kirschvink, Tresa Gray, Shelley Kohl, Linda Hughes, Kim McCoy, Jan Beck and Linda Hall.

The hall decorations were in shades of teal and cherry wine with bells, streamers and bows on the ceiling and tables. Centerpieces were floating candles in brandy snifters.

The bride graduated from Taylor High School in 1981 and is enrolled as a senior at Baylor University.

The groom graduated from Caldwell High School in 1975 and is employed

by Lambert Hollub Oil Company of Seguin.

Following a wedding trip to the Bahama Islands, the couple chose to make their home in Lexington, Texas.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's parents at Zieschang Cafe at Noack, Friday.

The bride is a member of Lodge No. 29, Taylor.

FOUNDED . . . July 1 1897 in LaGrange, Texas, by early Czech pioneers of Texas in a time of real need for a fraternal benevolent society to provide mutual aid to its members and their families.

SUPREME LODGE . . • located in Temple, Texas, and consists of five administrative officers and seven directors selected by the convention. They are solely responsible for administration of all business affairs of the society in accordance with the constituiton and bylaws as re-affirmed or revised by the delegates in each quadrennial convention.

PURPOSE. 7 . to encourage individual and group social responsibility; to provide economic security and benevolent assistance to members, their families, and other needy persons; and to encourage and promote American patiotism and the study and retention of the Czech language, traditions, and cultural heritage. . . . consists of approximately 60,000 active, social and juvenile members of both sexes, who have qualified for membership under the moral, citizenship, health and other requirements of the order. Contrary to common belief, membership is NOT restricted to persons of Czech descent.

ORGANIZATION . . . Non-denominational, composed of 128 local lodges which hold regular periodic meetings and are affiliated with the Supreme Lodge, and are subordinate to it. Local lodges have numbers and names which are either descriptive of their locality, patriotic, or historical.
