Next week we hope to have a writeup and pictures of the District III YAD held at Lodge No. 66, Waco on June 30. The pictures have not arrived as of this printing date. The day was nice, audience attentive and program wellconducted.

The meal served by Lodge 66 was, as usual, tasty and bountiful; more later.

*** In this issue, we are re-printing the two pictures that were inadvertantly reversed on the front page last week.

*** NFCA "Fraternalist of the Year" while we are starting the month of July, August 15th will be here before we know it. This is the deadline date for entries in the "Fraternalist of the Year Award."

Again this year the National Fraternal Congress of America is sponsoring the "Fraternalist of the Year Award" (previously called the "Fraternal Family Award") to honor a fraternalist at the local lodge level for outstanding service, accomplishment and dedication to fraternalism.

The program seeks to recognize individual members for the good works they perform. Do you have someone who has been a leader in a local lodge -- carrying out fraternalism on a grass roots level? Has he or she dedicated countless hours of volunteer service to the lodge and the community?

All society presidents received guidelines on how to implement the program, along with an official entry form. We hope every fraternal benefit society holding membership in the NFCA will conduct a society - wide contest among local lodges to select their nominee for the NFCA "Fraternalist of the Year Award." All society winners should be selected by July 15th. Member - societies are allowed to submit only one nomination per year at the national level.

A three - member panel will select the national winner. The panel will be appointed by the chairman of the NFCA "Fraternalist of the Year Award " Committee. Panel members must be associated with volunteer work and cannot be directly involved in a fraternal benefit society.

The winner will be invited to attend the NFCA convention at which the award is presented. Travel, lodging and meal expense will be paid for by the NFCA. Certificates will be awarded to each person nominated by a member - society for the award. ***

Consumers who are concerned about their credit histories can check with local credit bureaus, says the Federal Trade Commission. For a small fee, the bureaus will tell consumers what information is in their files. Credit bureaus are listed in the Yellow Pages under "credit" or "credit - reporting agencies." Since more than one bureau may have a file, get in touch with each one listed. Many bureaus will provide a copy of the file. Consumers also can request the names of creditors who have received a report in the past six months. Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act, consumers can challenge the completeness or accuracy of information in their files. If the disputed information cannot be verified, it must be deleted from the files. *** Are you undergoing surgery soon?

One way to hold down your medical bill might be to ask your doctor whether each laboratory test he or she intends to perform is really necessary.

A university of California study published recently in the "Journal of the American Medical Association" found that 60 percent of the tests done for approximately 2,000 patients were unnecessary. Doctors order tests for many reasons, including some nonmedical ones. Among them are peer pressure, hospital profit, curiosity, insecurity and habit. *** When the water temperature is below 70 degrees Fahrenheit, apparent drowning victims may be revived without brain damage after as long as 30 minutes under water, advises the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. Sudden immersion in cold water triggers a "mammalian diving reflex," which switches the flow of blood from nonvital areas -- such as hands and feet -- and sends it to the heart, lungs and brain. This enables an apparent drowning victim to be brought back to life with vigorous first aid, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation. *** Every year, thousands of Americans are injured at amusement parks, but most injuries could be prevented.

Before you put children on an amusement - park ride -- or before getting on one yourself -- the Insurance Information Institute suggests this safety check: Are the rides equipped with safety belts, restraining bars or cages? If so, use them. Are there fire warning and sprinkler systems? Are rides properly fenced? Children should not be able to touch any moving part.

Are limits set for age, height, weight and health? ***

An up - to - date inventory of valuables in your home -- including when you bought them and what you paid -- can speed up insurance reimbursement if your home burns or is burglarized. Photos of the house and contents also will help. For forms and instructions, contact the Insurance Information Institute. The number for its toll - free insurance hotline is (800) 221 - 4954. ***

The tax - withholding bite on summer jobs can be cut as long as you won't be earning more than $3,430 in 1985. There are two tests: You must have had no income - tax liability in 1984 and expect to have none in 1985.

Before checking the "exempt" box on Form W - 4, be sure that interest income or part - time jobs won't push you over the limit. ***

From The Vice President's Office Informational Meetings A Success During the past month I had the opportunity to meet with SPJST sales representatives (and interested members) throughout the state. I would have to conclude by the large number attending and the interest displayed, that this type of meeting was a success and found to be extremely beneficial to both the members attending and the Supreme Lodge.

I feel the meetings displayed the democratic process at work. Questions were answered and suggestions were recorded by the district director concerned so these items can be presented to the entire Supreme Lodge for consideration. This type of participation is healthy for the SPJST because it keeps the membership informed and an informed member is a dedicated enthusiastic member and that is what we want.

I would like to thank the following lodges for the use of their facilities and their support: Lodge 17, New Tabor; Lodge 80, Holland; Lodge 180, Burleson; Lodge 49, Rowena; Lodge 88, Houston; Lodge 40, El Campo Hillje; Lodge 107, Floresville.

I also want to thank the directors for their participation in this important project. Last, but not least, I want to thank every member who was in attendance. Certainly it speaks well of you that you are concerned about the future of the SPJST. It is imperative that we keep informed and have a first hand knowledge of "what's going on." Lodge 4, Hallettsville June Meeting Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, June 9, 1985 at the Grant Building with President Linda Mikush presiding.

Pledge to the U.S. Flag was led by Evelyn Holy.

Gaye Galetka read a resolution of sympathy for our departed member, Richard Kainer.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes to the last meeting which were approved.

Correspondence followed.

Treasurer Helen Zabransky and Financial Secretary Hilmer Galetka reported their reports.

Our annual Family Day to be held in August was discussed with final plans meeting. to be made at the There being nono' -new business, the meeting was adjourned. Refreshments and lunch were served.

A special Father's Day door prize was won by Erwin Holy. Helen Zabransky won the door prize.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, July 14 at the Grant Building beginning at 2 p.m. Refreshments and lunch will be served as usual. Members are encouraged to attend.

80, Holland Makes Donations

Lodge

Due to other commitments, our Lodge 80 meeting was held the last Sunday, June 30th instead of the first Sunday in July. Our meeting was called to order at 2:10 p.m. by President Bohac.

With 24 members present, we all recited the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag and the president then asked that we remain standing in silent tribute to our deceased members and especially to our lodge member. Roy Copeland who passed away since our last meeting.

The chair asked Secretary Latham to read the minutes of our June 2nd meeting which were approved as read by the secretary.

In correspondence we had a thank you card from the Willie L. Dusek family for the flowers sent for his funeral: Willie was a former member of our lodge and served as our treasurer for many years.

In other business, the Auditing Committee, composed of Otto Horelica, John Barabas and Mrs. Ricky Benner gave their report and found the books in good order.

The committee that was recently selected to set the rates for the use of the hall for various functions is composed of members Frankie Pajestka, Jr., Adell Horelica and Ricky Benner.

The following donations were given: $50 -- American Legion Auxiliary No. 526 $50 -- Holland High School Cheerleaders $24 -- KJT Society No. 28, Granger We, the members of SPJST Lodge 80 are very grateful to our Secretary Glen Latham for the good reports he gives us on the various functions of our lodge. Brother Glen, personally, I think you are doing a wonderful deed for our local organization and I am sure the rest of the members think the same way.

We accepted one new member for our lodge, namely, Beluvia Joy Cason.

A nice plaque was presented to our lodge by the Holland Corn Festival Committee for participating in the festivities.

June `4,' Fire Marshall Henderson met with President Bohac at our hall from the State Office and gave us a good clean report on our fire prevention.

We were glad to have as visitors at our meeting, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Sirny of Temple.

Our regular lodge meeting will be held Sunday, August 4th.

Door prizes were won by Beulah Barabas, Mary Barabas, John Barabas and Darvin Ivicic.

Dear Members: Our June meeting was called to order by President Charlie Matcek. All officers, except Treasurer Willie Mae Kuykendall, were present and all reports were approved as given.

Lillie Teykl led the Pledge of Allegiance. We held a moment of silence for Brother Jim Orsak.

Reported on the sick list are John Valka and Valerian Matcek.

Secretary Mary Werner read thank you cards from the State School, Fire Department and S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. 2 in Needville.

It was voted to have the barbecue pit repaired.

After bingo held June 12th, the workers had cake and coffee in honor of Mr. Herbert Nowotny's birthday.

88 Houston News Lodge

Sunday afternoon, June 23rd, a lovely bridal shower was held at Lodge 88 for Susan Schenburn. Susan and Jeff Murray will marry Saturday, August 3rd. Hostesses for the shower were Helen Hegwood, Marie Stayton, Florena Taake and Kathy Trefell.

Susan and Jeff received many lovely and useful gifts from the large group of ladies in attendance. Susan is a longtime member here at the lodge and so is her mother, Mary Schenburn.

Her father, Louis, is a social member for many years. The family has been very active in lodge activities; Mary is currently vice president of the Birthday Sisters and before that was lodge youth leader, second vice president and ceramic instructor. Susan was active in the youth club holding various offices and one year was honored as State Point Winner. She was also recording secretary one year. She is now employed as a nurse at Memorial North West Hospital.

Entertainment Chairman Harley Cox is announcing the appearance of a new country/western band Friday, July 19th. Let's welcome Jim Gough and the Cosmopolitan Cowboys to the Chandelier Ballroom with a large attendance ready to dance to the music of the late Bob Wills which Mr. Gough's band features. It sounds like it should be a nice addition to the country/western bands appearing at our lodge.

July 13th, Bobby Jones plays in the ballroom and lie features country/western, polkas and waltzes.

July 20th, the Big Band Music of Manny Green will ring out the ballroom music dancers. This will be a DRESS CODE dance. Buy your tickets at the lodge office and make your reservations. Tickets will also be on sale at the door. Price of the tickets are $8.50 each or $17 per couple.

The swimming pool is now open every day at 1 p.m. a cool refreshing way to spend an afternoon or evening. The concession stand in the barbecue house is open in the late afternoons for hot dogs and hamburgers. Sodawater is available in the pool area and inside the lodge, or you can pack a lunch and enjoy the picnic area under the shady trees surrounding the pool. it sure beats driving in all the traffic to get to the beach. Plan your next family outing right in your "own backyard."

Little Hillary Markuson decided she needed a vacation and convinced Grandpa and Grandma Gus and Ann Urbanovsky to take her. Hillary, Ann, Gus, and daughter, Diana Markuson, left June 22nd for a short trip around Texas. They stopped at Clifton to see "Texas Safari" and then went on to Waco for a family visit with Mrs. Margie Urbanovsky. Sunday, June 23rd, they all attended the Urbanovsky Family Reunion held in West. Two hundred - ninety Urbanovsky family members gathered from as far away as Tennessee and Virginia. Monday the travelers went to Six Flags Over Texas in Fort Worth and came on home that evening. It sounds like Hillary and her grandparents had an enjoyable trip.

Library9 Archives, Museum Report I need some girl's work clothing that would fit about a 3 or 4 - year - old girl to complete a display (nothing fancy just plain work clothes), also some children's shoes, both boys and girls to fit children up to about 6, 7 - year old.

Last Saturday we had visitors from Slaton, Lubbock, Yoakum, Portland and Hot Springs, Arkansas. They were all very happy with what they found here and marveled at our cleanliness; this is something we are very proud of and we hope to continue the cleanliness.

Many of our members have not seen our library, archives and museum; why they have not been here is hard to tell.

We assure you that you will be pleasantly surprised when you do see it; there are many items on display that you should see, like the PUPPETS from Czechoslovakia; you will marvel that it took a real artist and an especially gifted wood - carver, because all the fine wood carving had to be done by hand tools; there were not any electric drills and saws and it took a lot of determination to stay with it and here 112 years later everyone who sees the puppets admires them. Come see this outstanding display soon; you will be glad that you did.

S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home Corner Rosie Zdunkewicz, Maurice Krueger, Annabelle Schoppe and Nettie Habermacher are the new residents to join the group at the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Home No. II in June.

Staff includes Lanora A. Broaden (NA), Rita A. Hoover (LVN), Ruby W. Kingman (Dietary), Jill Dea Minkal (NA) and Velma S. Tidwell (NA).

Welcome back from Polly Ryon Hospital in Richmond are Stella Dreamer and Annie Walcik. We are sorry to hear Alice Riggs and Walter Schulz are hospitalized in Polly Ryon Hospital and wish them a speedy recovery. Rose Hatchett was transferred to a skill home and Mary Lindsay was discharged. We wish them lots of luck.

We regret the loss of Mattie Mesecke. She will be missed by our staff and other residents; also Gilbert Randermann who was discharged before entering the hospital.

The senior citizens' luncheons given by the Immanuel United Church of Christ and St. Michael's Catholic Church were attended by Tony Ondracek, Virgie Richardson, Almeda Ullrich, Martha Stransky, Hilda Cole, Annie Stavinoha and Frances Jacob.

The KCs came to play "Bingo" Tuesday evening, June 11th and June 25th, with the residents. The residents enjoyed the bingo and enjoyed visiting with the ones present.

Thursday morning, June 13, 1985, residents Mary Ann Spezia, Henry Novosad, Moody Flagg, Tony Ondracek, Almida Ullrich, Martha Wleczyk, Annie Stavinoha, Martha Stuchly, Martha Marx (SAD) and Paul Legendre (volunteer) went to East ernard to see Henry Novosad's farm.

On the way back we stopped by Dairy Queen in East Bernard and the residents were treated with ice cream donated by the manager. The group reported an enjoyable morning.

"Happy Birthdays" for the month of June were residents Edwin Woytek, Annie Simmons, Almida Ullrich, Rosalee Sanborn and Maurice Krueger plus Staff members Juanita Martinez, Verna Ruth Smith, Kathleen Reinoehl and Elaine Smith.

The Birthday Party, which was held June 28th, included singing "Happy Birthday" and listening to the taped Czech choir of St. Michael's Church and Bobby Jones. The "A" Flower and Gift Shop provided the corsages

and boutonnieres. The Immanuel United Church of Christ Guild ladies provided the cakes. Ben Bacica brought cookies and Mr. Sanborn brought a birthday cake. Frances Muzny and Bertha Ross served the coffee, punch, cake and ice cream to all. The afternoon was enjoyed by everyone.

Choral Group News

Seaton

Dear Members and Friends: We had met Tuesday, June 11, 1985 with fifteen present, singing mostly old favorites. Those present were Otto Hanus, Della Psencik, Mary Holick, Emily Stuteville, Martha Klusacek, Anne Krcha, Georgia Sodek, Annie Jakubec, La Verne Vanicek, Dorothy Pechal, Helen and Henry Janacek, Elsie and Mathu Cabla and a visitor, Anne Shenkir. Mrs. Shenkir enjoyed the singing and promised to bring her husband and possibly join our group; come, again.

The business meeting was called to order by President Helen Janacek. The Telephone Committee for this year will be Della Psencik and Martha Klusacek. A decision whether to go to the State Fair's Czech Day this year October 6th was tabled to the next meeting.

Tuesday, June 25th, we met for the singing session. Those included in the group were Martha Klusacek, Anne Krcha, La Verne Vanicek, Lillian and Frank Mikulec, Helen and Henry Janacek, Emily Stuteville, Annie Jakubec, Agnes Schiller, Dorothy Pechal, Della Psencik, Mary Holick and Albina Mikeska. Annie Jakubec picked the songs and led the group singing with Henry Janacek playing the accordion.

We had everyone having birthdays in June, July and August to pick their favorite songs. Birthday celebrants for June were Martha Klusacek; July -- La Verne Vanicek, Agnes Schiller, Mary Holick; August -- Anne Krcha, Henry Janacek.

Wedding anniversary will be observed by Frank and Lillian Mikulec in August. We wished all the very best since we had decided to take a vacation in July and August, so NO rehearsals until Tuesday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m.

After the rehearsal, we usually hold the business meeting. Martha Klusacek had a birthday that day, so she was surprised with a birthday cake and punch. Everyone enjoyed the party.

Then, Helen Janacek led the business meeting. A discussion, again, got around the Czech Day in Dallas.

There being a lodge meeting that Sunday, we decided to forego this year but to plan for the next year (Sesquicentennial 1986).

Secretary Emily Stuteville stated that 3 buses are going to Lincoln, Nebraska for a Polka Festival. If anyone is interested, you need to contact Calvin Chervenka about the seats still available.

I'm wishing all an enjoyable summer, and see you all back Tuesday, September 10th at 7:30 p.m. Everyone try to come, then.

SPJST Softball Team Report Of Lodge 84, Dallas Dear Brothers and Sisters: Wednesday night, June 12th, we played Adairs/Tex Turf, a very good team, and won another game by a score of 5 to 4, our eighth straight league win. Lionel Schulz was the winning pitcher hurling the first 4 1/3 innings. He allowed 4 hits, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts and 2 runs. Mike Moeller hurled 1 and 2/3 innings and registered a save. He allowed 1 hit, 2 walks, 4 strikeouts and 2 runs. This was a real good and exciting game; offensively, Ben Downey had 3 singles, Kerry Good had 2 singles and a double, Don Jarma had 2 singles and one RBI, Tom Stites had a triple and 3 RBIs and Danny Yates had a walk, a single and one RBI. Our next opponent will be the Casa View Baptist team, who also have a very good team, whom we were scheduled to play June 19th.

June 27th, we played the BIOYA team, our last scheduled league game.

Then July 2nd (I'm guessing), we will probably play a rained - out make - up game against Trans - Con and this could be the game for us.

As I have been reporting all along, we have been enjoying a real good season to date and we hope it will continue. Do come out and see the team before our summer season ends and also keep in mind the City Championship plays which will follow the conclusion of league play. See all of you at the games.

Softball Team Report Dear Brothers and Sisters: Wednesday night, June 19th, we played the Casa View Baptist team and we shut them out and won by a score of 3 to 0. Mike Moeller hurled a no hitter, walked 4 batters, and struck out 9 in a superb performance on the mound. The team played flawlessly afield; everyone had a good game.

Offensively, Ben Downey had single and a walk; Kerry Goad, single; Don Jarma, a single; Tom Stites, a triple and a double; Danny Yates, a walk and a single; Dan Palm, a single; Don Lennox, a single; and Paul Bartos, a single.

Our Thursday night, June 27th game was won, however, I did not have the statistics at my disposal and will be in the next issue of the Vestnik.

This means we are still undefeated with 10 wins and one more game to be played Tuesday night, July 2 at 6:50 p.m. After this, we will be playing in the Dallas City Championship playoffs to determine a City TAAF Champion to see who goes to the state playoffs.

I am very proud of this year's team; we do have very good pitching and an abundant amount of talent on the team. Thus far it has been a fun season. Do come out and see the team play.

Bell County Czech Residents And Former Residents

Attention

Czech family histories are still needed for the Bell County history being prepared by the Bell County Historical Commission.

Such histories can include those of any early settlers, of an yone who has lived in the county at least 50 years and anyone born in the county. These will be compiled in Volume II of the history which is considered the genealogy section.

Some guidelines to consider in writing the history are as follows: 1) A limit of 750 words is allotted.

2) Names, dates of birth and death, marriage and names of children of residents should be as complete as possible.

3) Narrative accounts of any accomplishments are welcomed.

4) Death recordings should include dates, places of burial and whether graves are marked.

5) Pictures need to be glossy, black and white, 4 x 5 inch size, if possible.[No originals, please Histories or early communities and businesses are also needed. Pictures of early settlers, buildings and community scenes will be used where possible and may be submitted with the written materials.

All information should be addressed to E.A. Limmer, Jr., 3917 Cripple Creek, Temple, Texas 76502 by August 1, 1985.

This is a wonderful opportunity to have your family history recorded for future reference. Many years from now, your "great - grands" may wish they had some source of information to go to in order to learn their family tree.

It is most important also to emphasize that you do not have to be a Bell County resident at present as long as you qualify under the three groups previously mentioned.

Some of the more common Czech names of Bell County include: Bartek, Baca, Cabla, Chervenka, Chlapek, Coufal, Dana, Divis, Dubcak, Haisler, Hejl, Hurta, Hutka, Jez, Kotrla, Lesikar, Luksa, Macek, Marek, Mikeska, Moil, Mikulas, Pavelka, Pechal, Schiller, Sefcik, Simek, Tyroch, Vanicek, Vitek, Zabcik and Zavodny.

As a last note, if anyone needs help in writing or typing your family history, please contact me: Rt. 4, Box 36, Temple, Texas 76501. We want as many as possible to be included in this project, because so much of Bell County's history was influenced by the hard - working, ideal - minded Czech people who chose to make this their home.

Dear Members and Friends: For the first time in several years June has presented to our Metro some of the nicest spring weather imaginable. Our weather men have practically called it a cold wave in June because of the lower temperatures.

The Ladies' Circle of Lodge 92 opened their meeting with President Florence Greer, Vice President Dona Hubenak, Secretary Frances Grizzard, and Treasurer Evelyn Spacek.

Florence Greer asked our group to stand and have a silent prayer for Lydia Matusevich, Rudolph Chaloupka and Jerry Merlick.

Frances Grizzard read the minutes which were approved as read.

Lillie McMillen gave the Sunshine Committee report. Get - well cards were sent to Ann Synak and Joe Merlick, and a sympathy card to the Lydia Matusevich family.

The door prize donated by Evelyn Spacek was won by Florence Greer.

Betty Loyd will donate the door prize for July.

Maggie Konecny read the names of the hostesses for July. They will be Agnes Merlick, Mary Palachek, Evelyn Spacek and Lydia Palachek.

Joyce Tesar announced the dance program for the coming month.

Marie Prill made a motion to donate $75 to Lodge 92 to be used for the 75th Anniversary of the lodge in September. Mary Powers seconded the motion. The motion carried.

Birthdays for June were: Betty Billingston, Tillie and Arthur Gillis, Frances Grizzard, Bernadette Holford, Eleanor Svacek and Christine Zich.

President Florence Greer suggested that we tell some funny event that happened to our parents when they first arrived in the United States. Some very interesting stories were told by Frances Grizzard, Lillie McMillen, Mary Powers, Annie Belota, Esta Belle Hubenak, Helen Paprskar and Florence Greer.

Congratulations to Teri Rene Walters, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Walters, and Bron Praslicka, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Praslicka of Keller, and the grandson of Mrs. Ella Praslicka who is a member of our Ladies' Circle.

The District II officers held their semi - annual meeting and made plans for the District II fall meeting. Let me tell you that you will not want to miss this one. We will have the largest attendance ever at this meeting. The enthusiasm is great and we will have our first annual fun carnival and fall meeting combined. This fun carnival will be something different FREE drinks, prizes, food and a hilarious time playing games. This is for everyone 0 to 90 years of age. There will not even be a charge to play the games and over 300 prizes to be given away. It sounds great and it will be great and lots of fun for everyone. OK, but to be able to do all of this at no cost to you, we are asking each family to bring a cake, a salad or vegetable and 2 grocery items from your pantry.

If you will do this and then attend the meeting and fun carnival August 11th at Lodge 29 in Taylor, we promise you a fun time.

The District II officers are very enthused and are devoting special effort to making this day a big success.

District VI Plans Educational Tour Dear District VI Youth Members: The annual Educational Tour will be Wednesday, July 24, to Galveston, Texas. The charter bus will leave Wal Mart in El Campo at 6 a.m. and return at 10 p.m.

This year we will be taking only one bus, a 47 - passenger. Active youth members will have first choice. You must notify your lodge leader if you are interested.

In Galveston we will visit Sea Arama, Transportation and Commerce Railroad Museum, Bishop Palace, American National Insurance Tower, and walk the sea wall.

The cost of the bus fare will be $10 -five dollars for bus fare and five dollars for Sea Arama. You will need to bring your own drink and sack lunch.

Wear comfortable clothes, have a good attitude, and plan to have a great day.

District VII Outing Coming Up Soon July 9, 10 & 11 at Bastrop State Park We are going on a District VII outing this year. I hope you can join us. We are going to the group camp area at Bastrop State Park, Bastrop, Texas. This will be our second District outing. Ask those who went last year; they all had a great time.

The camp has a capacity for 60 people. The invitation gives priority to active youth members then on a first come basis. Anyone may go. Bring your children or grandchildren.

This camp is different. We are asking everyone to bring enough food for those who you are bringing. You will also be responsible for the care and behavior of the people you bring to camp. We will swim in a public pool for $1 per day. Everyone will have to take turns helping with the cooking and cleaning. Please follow the menu below, so we will be able to put our food together, to prepare the meals.

We are to arrive after 2 p.m.

Tuesday, we will stay Wednesday, and leave for home Thursday after LUNCH. MENU: Breakfast for 2 meals: Coffee, milk, dry cereal, orange juice; toast, margarine, jelly.

LUNCHES: Cold cuts, hot dogs, hamburgers.

EVENING MEALS: Ground meat for 1 meal; chicken to fry for 1 meal.

Bring cups, plates, flatware, napkins, foil paper, paper towels.

Of Sympathy We, the Resolution Committee of Lodge Nasinec No. 32 of Victoria, in behalf of our membership, wish to express our sympathy to the family of our departed sister N ETHEL ANN GROVES who passed away May 7, 1985, in a local nursing home. Sister Groves was 78 years old. She was born May 31, 1907 in Austin County, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, W.W. and Louise Lala Shiller.

She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Victoria and of SPJST Lodge No. 32 since January 13, 1929.

Funeral services were held Thursday, May 9 at the First English Lutheran Church with the Rev. Harold Pearson officiating. Burial was in Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Colonial Funeral Home.

Pallbearers were Dennie Mize, Perry Nelson, Keith Parma, Paul Oeding, James O'Connor and Charles Hill.

She is survived by three sisters, Elsie Nelson Hood and Grace O'Connor, both of Victoria and Ethelyn Hill of Humble.

In Memoriam Emil W. Holub, 84, died Friday, June 7, 1985 in the Seymour hospital.

Rosary, was recited at 8 p.m.

Saturday at Seymour Memorial Funeral Home Chapel. Other services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Harry Fisher officiating. Interment was in Bomarton, Texas cemetery.

Born January 22, 1901, in Fayette County, Texas, Brother Holub farmed in Baylor County and was a pumper for various oil companies until retiring in 1964. He was a Seymour resident for 21 years. He and Claudia Kovar were married 6 January 1931, in Seymour.

Brother Holub was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus. He was a former trustee of the Mary's Creek School.

Brother Holub was financial secretary for SPJST Lodge 95 in Seymour. He was also a past District VI director of SPJST Supreme Lodge.

The Supreme Lodge recognized him on January 10, 1973 for his dedicated services as director from January 1, 1971 to January 1, 1973. Recognition was also given him for being District IV - 1966 Membership Sales Champion as well as in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Claudia Holub of Seymour; a daughter, Dianna Friske of Odessa; two sons, Daniel Holub of Plano and Lawrence Holub of Wichita Falls; a sister, Martha Cernosek of Graham; a brother, Julius Holub of Seymour; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Sister Volcik was a member of the West Brethren Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and belonged to the Christian Sisters. She was a member of the SPJST Society since May 1919.

Survivors include her husband, Frank Volcik of West; one daughter, Angeline Veach of Waco; four sons, Raymond Volcik of Northcrest, Adolph Volcik and Edwin Volcik, both of West and Albert Volcik of LaGrange; one sister, Hermina 13 Granger; Wentrcek of great 24 grandchildren; grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26 at the West Brethren Church with Rev. Lawrence

Junek officiating. Interment was in West Brethren Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Wilburn Willis, James Holecek, Erwin Janek, Daniel Deiterman, Wayne Haug, Paul Kody and Fred Salazar.

In Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Janie Kunetka,84, of Yoakum were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 12 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, followed by interment in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Sister Kunetka died Monday, June 10, 1985 in the Yoakum hospital. A native of Fayette County, she was born February 17, 1901, to the late Joseph and Clara Chalupa Gaidusek.

Survivors include two sons, Marvin and William Kunetka, both of Yoakum; one sister, Mrs. Emma Gallia of El Campo; one brother, Julius Gaidusek of Schulenburg; four grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Hause Beckhusen Wedding Jana Jolan Hause of Cameron became the bride of Wendall Jay Beckhusen of Buckholts in a double ring ceremony Saturday, June 15, 1985 at 2 p.m. at Hope Lutheran Church in Buckholts.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bentley L. Hause of Cameron.

The bridegroom is the son of Wilburn E. Beckhusen of Buckholts and the late Dorothy Lee Beckhusen.

Rev. Larry Henrichs and Rev. Ray Tiemann officiated at the ceremony.

Music was provided by Ladis Marek, Jr., organist, of Cameron and Maurina Corley, soloist, of Cameron.

Given in marriage by her father, the bride wore a designer original silk organza gown of hand - clipped chantilly lace and alencon Brussel's embroidery. It was fashioned with a natural waist, high Victorian neck, bishop sleeves, lace appliques on the full skirt and a scalloped hemline

which flowed into a full cathedral train. To complete her ensemble she wore a designer original crystaline shoulder length English illusion veil held in place by pearl orange blossoms.

She carried a blue prayer book with a cascade of white roses and baby's breath.

Matron of honor was Pamela Hause Fleming of Del Valle, sister of the bride. Bridesmaids were Pamela Lange O'Bar of Dothan, Alabama, Jo Ann Culpepper of Cameron, sister of the bridegroom, Donna Gilbert Orsag of Cameron, and Ann Richardson Hornung of Robinson. They wore gowns of pink organza over taffeta with lace overlay bodice and short cap butterfly sleeves. They carried pink single stem roses. Flower girl was Beth Prater of Taylor, niece of the bridegroom. She wore a white satin floor - length gown with a lace bodice.

The bride's mother chose a dusty rose chiffon gown fashioned with a high neckline and a full floor - length skirt. The bridegroom's stepmother chose a deep turquoise gown fashioned with a crystal pleated cape over a fitted bodice with a floor - length crysta pleated skirt. They wore white orchids Best man was Jeffrey Beckhusen of Buckholts, brother of the bridegroom.

Groomsmen were Randy Lesikar of Burlington, Douglas Beckhusen of Buckholts, brother of the bridegroom, Randy Orsag of Cameron, and Price Moon of Rogers. Ringbearer was Lance , Hause of Cameron, brother c f the bride.

Candlelighters and ushers were Ed Provasek and Larry Mueck, both of Cameron, and Albert Lesikar and Craig Arnold, both of Rogers.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the Church Fellowship Hall. The bride's table held a white organza cloth with a pink hurricane candle centerpiece encircled with flowers. The tiered wedding cake held pink roses sparkled with a splashing fountain and satellite cakes. The cake was topped with two doves encircled in pink and white flowers. Punch and pink rose mints were served in brass appointments.

The bridegroom's table was covered with a burgundy cloth with a pink hurricane candle centerpiece surrounded by flowers and miniature bales of cotton. The bridegroom's cake was decorated with John Deere tractors around a cotton boll. Coffee

and spiced pecans were served in brass appointments.

The register table held a pink cloth with a white lace overlay. Baby pictures of the bride and bridegroom along with a pink flower arrangement completed the table.

The groom is a graduate of Rogers High School and attended Texas State Technical Institute (TSTI). He is self employed as a farmer and rancher.

The bridegroom's father hosted the rehearsal dinner Friday evening at Joe Glaser's Lakehouse in Buckholts.

Golden Anniversary Celebrants Johnny and Anne Muehlstein of Stamford, Texas celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 22, 1985 in West, Texas.

The couple's children honored theft parents with a golden anniversary mass at 4 p.m. at the Church of the Assumption Catholic Church in West, where they were originally married.

Following the mass a reception, dinner and dance ' was held at the West Fraternal Auditorium.

Their children are Kern and Georgia Ann Hughes of San Jose, California, Johnny and Jerry Ann Muehlstein, Jr. of Grapevine, Larry Muehlstein of Hurst, and Edwin and Mildred Powell of Georgetown.

The grandchildren include Richard and Margaret Dupont of Plano, Dr. Michael Hughes of Columbus, Ohio, Kevin and Julie Hughes of Argyle, Mark and Vickie Hughes of Garland, Larry Hughes and his fiancee, Karmel

A song composition by Eddie Muehlstein of Hillsboro was the opening song accompanied by Organist Patricia Zapletal of Ennis.

Father Joseph Cain of Phoenix, Arizona, a family friend and past Reverend of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Stamford, officiated at the ceremony, with Monsignor B.J. Zientek, of West assisting.

The original bridesmaids were Wilma Kolar of West, Agnes Webb of West, and Helen Britt of Abilene.

Groomsmen included Anton Hajek, Sr. of San Antonio, Frankie Muehlstein of Abbott, and Johnny Kolar of Hillsboro. Unable to attend was Albin Marek of Abbott.

Alicia and April Muehlstein of Grapevine registered the guests, and Amy Muehlstein, also of Grapevine, hel ped with the wedding cake. Silk flower arrangements and centerpieces were made by Virgina Muehlstein of Hillsboro.

Guests traveling the longest distance were Birdie Moran and her grandson Tommy Acton of Tuam, Ireland. She is the mother of Father Sean Moran of St. Ann's Catholic Church in Stamford, Texas.

The celebrants were also treated to a dance with music by The Texas Dutchmen of Houston. The Anniversary Waltz was played for the couple with their children encircling them.

Johnny and Anne Muehlstein are 40 year members of SPJST Lodge 90 in Stamford, Texas.

The Incredible History of the Paul and Ruzena Maly Family Immigrating with their parents from Czechoslovakia, Paul Maly was born in 1879, and at the age of 15 years arrived in the United States in 1894.

Ruzena Karban was born in 1885, and at the age of 16 years arrived in the United States in 1901. Both settling in Garfield County, Oklahoma with their parents.

Not being able to speak the English language, they did not continue their education in local schools, learning from others to communicate and studying from books and younger children who were attending local schools.

Both having to work, Ruzena was employed by a doctor's family in Enid, Oklahoma as domestic help. Paul worked on the farm and also at odd jobs with carpenters, building houses and barns in the county.

August 16, 1905, they were married in Enid, and settled on an 80 - acre farm, five miles northwest of Garber where they spent the rest of their lives.

To this couple were born eight children, four boys and four girls. All were delivered at the twine of Dr. Guy E. Brewer of Garber, Oklahoma. As of this writing, all are still living and healthy at the ages between 65 and 79.

All of the children graduated from Garber High School. Three graduated from college. Joe from OU with BS in ME in 1935, Jerry from OSU with BS in General Engineering, and Ladik from OSU with BS in General Engineering.

By now we had survived the depression on the farm, using 18 horses and gang plows to put in the wheat and other crops, having and selling cream and butter. We also sold eggs and fryers plus growing a big garden for canning vegetables and for use in everyday meals. A small orchard furnished fruit and jellies; several bee hives furnished honey for the table.

Crop failures, due to drouth, tornadoes, hail, and other adverse conditions, placed a heavy load on the family, however, in • spite of these setbacks, all were somehow overcome without any subsidies or welfare assistance.

We were now on our way to individual independence when World War II broke out. Three of us were

called in to service for our country, namely, Joe, in to the Army as reserve officer, January 1942, as 2nd Lt. assigned to the 181st FA Bn. with 26 months combat duty in the South Pacific, returned with rank of Major, January 1946.

Jerry entered in to the U.S. Army August 8, 1942 as Pvt. in Medical Corp ETO with 22 months combat duty, returned January 19, 1946 as 1st Lt. Ladik entered Service in the U.S. Navy as Ensign in 1943, LCT 684 Group 70, returned July 1946 as Lt. JG. Paul remained on the farm with the parents. Mary and Lillie worked for a firm at Tinker Field at Oklahoma City.

Rose and Anna both married and lived with their husbands on the farms.

War is now over, the three returned home from combat duty. We are all back together, again, and look forward to a happy future.

September 2, 1947, Paul, Sr. suddenly passed away of pneumonia following a hernia operation. This was the first and only death in the family.

Then January 18, 1972, Ruzena died in her sleep following a short illness.

Nosy the eight children who have survived the many hazards in their lifetime are still living and reasonably healthy, a combined total of over 578 years which I believe is incredible.

Rose and her husband, William 1 olezal, retired on their farm, northwest of Yukon, Oklahoma.

Mary, Mrs. Wesley Stejskal, a widow retired from the farm and living in Yukon, Oklahoma. Paul and his wife, Otilla, retired on the farm, northwest of Garber, Oklahoma. Joe retired from Halliburton Company after 35 years, now an Independent Oil Producer living with his wife Alice on a ranch north of Okmulgee, Oklahoma. Jerry retired from Civil Service with the Red River Arsenal, living with his wife, Mary Jo, in Texarkanna, Texas.
