Lodge 88 Celebrates 50-Year Memberships President Jerry Ermis and Vice President Clara Broz presented 50 year membership pins to six honored members at the June 10, 1985, regular monthly lodge meeting. Recipients included Irene S. Kovar, Freda Malina, Bessie Pavlicek, Annie T. Baethe, Emil Kilnar, and Mrs. Charles E. Kubin (accepting for her husband

who was unable to attend).

Other 50 - year members who were not in attendance were also acknowledged.

Lodge 28, East Bernard Meeting

Dear Members: The July meeting of Lodge Karel Jonas will take place at the regular scheduled time of 2 p.m. Sunday, July 7th. As always, the meeting will be held in the lodge hall. Some additional items will be reported on along with the usual scheduled items on the agenda.

The "Gathering" for the luncheon will take place. at the serving table after the meeting.

The June meeting was June 2nd, with all reports accepted as given and there being no old and/or new business, the meeting lasted under 45 minutes.

Before adjourning to the "Gathering," the drawings for prizes were made. The regular door and the special Father's Day prize, both given by the lodge, were both won, by separate drawings, by August Kubena

Lodge 29, Taylor To Host District II Domino Tournament Dear Members: Taylor Lodge 29 held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, June %with President Edwin Adamek presiding.

Monica Machu presented the flag and led the members in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. We remained standing for a few moments of silence for our deceased Brother Eddie Richter.

Roll call of officers showed all were present. We then hld the reading of the minutes from our previous meeting, the treasurer's report, and Property Committee report.

We had some special guests, District II Youth Counselor Frank Klinkovsky

June 22nd, they had planned to go to Bastrop State Park for their annual outing and parents also were welcome to go. He reminded everybody that July 14 will be District II YAD at Elgin.

President Adamek reminded the members about the District Domino Tournament which will be held September 24 for "Straight" dominoes and October 5 for "42."

Our local champion tournament was scheduled for June 30 beginning at 12:30 p.m. at our lodge.

The next lodge meeting has been changed to FRIDAY NIGHT, JULY 12th,at 8 p.m. due to District II Youth Achievement Day, July 14 which is our regular meeting date, so please note the time change.

Dear Members: I hope this letter finds everyone in good spirits. The kids are out of school and summer is in full swing. This is also the time for family vacations and outings. I'd like to wish everyone a happy and safe summer.

At our last meeting, we voted to go to direct billing. One of the reasons for this decision was the difficulty we have been having collecting our premium dues. With this in mind, the membership present voted unanimously to change our collecting procedures. Anyone receiving a bill now will have 30 days from the billing date to pay their premium. If at that time we have not received payment, that member will go on suspension. I hope that everyone understands that the decision was based on what is best for our lodge.

The Entertainment (booking) Committee had a meeting June 19, 1985 at 7:30 p.m. at J.B. Wilson's home. Hall Manager Hubert Homeyer, Treasurer Sue Wade, President Elain Luza, and Committee Members Charles Luza, Willie Randermann and J.B. Wilson were present. The committee took an in depth look at our finances. I wish I had better news to report, but attendance at our dances has not improved over the past six months and we are still hurting financially.

The committee has recommended that we find other avenues for income.

Bingo games and turkey shoots were a few of the ideas that were brought up.

We definitely are going to decide after our July 14 meeting what is best for our lodge. J.B. Wilson is investigating bingo games and will give a detailed report (i.e. license, materials needed, initial cost) at the meeting. Discussion and decisions will be made. The expenses will also be discussed and decisions made on how we will pay any costs ensued. Your input is welcomed and any positive suggestions would be appreciated.

_Age 40, El Campodillje Family Day Dear Vestnik Readers: For all who missed the El Campo Hillje Lodge 40 meeting, June 19 - the meeting was called to order at 7:40 p.m. President James Kulcak led the Pledge of Allegiance and the meeting quickly adjourned.

The Family Day festivities began at 7 p.m. with organ music beautifully played by Sister Cynthia Goerig. There was a lot of toe - tapping going on!

Delicious cold cut trays and beverages were available.

President Kulcak recognized Sister Margaret Kulcak and Sister Dora Lee Kopecky for all the hard work they have been doing in the kitchen on bingo nights. He then recognized all the officers for their help and support.

The sales representatives were commended for their work and then he laughingly upped their insurance quotas. Each new policy sold earns us a new member. Representatives recognized were Frankie Vanek, Ardis Bacak, James Bacak, Ray Pilgrim, Frank Sablatura, Melvin Marek and Leona Macha.

SL President Howard Leshikar was a welcome guest at our celebration. He informed us a 30 - minute film is in the making about our ancestors'arrival in America. We will look forward to seeing it in the future.

He encouraged us to not wait until it is too late before thinking of more insurance. Good Point!! He thanked us for our contribution toward the SPJST Society's good name. Greetings were sent from the Home Office by the other officers. We received a hardy pat on the back for being an outstanding lodge; we extend that pat to our lodge President James Kulcak and District VI President Ardis Bacak. Let us not take them for granted.

Everyone is lining up for delicious food at Lodge 40 during their Family Day and Fifty - year Members' Day held June 19th. with our members and offers us much encouragement. We were proud to have him present our two 50 - year members with their pins -- Sister Adela Holub and Sister Henrietta Dettling; we are so proud that you are members of our lodge.

Another thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Albert ICresta Sr. for their dedication and work in the bar.

Many thanks to Sister Leona Macha who organized our summer social. It was a great success. The color theme with red, white, and blue ribbons and Dalloons was very festive. Many of the members pitched in to help in the kitchen. The meat was catered by Staff's. A variety of good salads, vegetables and desserts was furnished

by our members and, believe me, tried to enjoy all of them.

District VI Youth Counselor Janet Marek was on hand to tell us about the activities at summer camp and to show us the crafts. Our youth club members were recognized and presented three very delightful skits. We always enjoy heir efforts and especially this time. r'hey ended with the Bird Dance, with some good audience participation. It was very funny!

I hope all of you enjoyed the Family Day celebration as much as I did. See you at the July meeting!

Lodge 66, Waco June Meeting

Fest in Victoria. A thank you was read from President Howard Leshikar, also some correspondence concerning the Domino Tournament.

After a brief discussion• concerning the domino tournament, the minutes of the Board of Trustees' meeting were read by Sister Engelke. The lodge had a Cleanup Day scheduled for June 21st and June 22nd. Anyone who could come either day was welcome to come help.

Youth Leader Kay Owen then gave her report. Everything was coordinated for the District III YAD to be held June 30th. All camp forms were to be filled out and brought back June 30 (YAD). The youth planned to go to Six Flags, July 20th. August 31st, the youth will hold a cake walk.

Trust Fund Chairman Sister Parma

Our regular meeting fell on Father's Day this month. We still had an tttendance of 67 members present.

President Orsag called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m. Flags were then brought forward by Chris and Kevin Owen and Michael Warren led everyone in the pledge.

All officers were present except our Recording Secretary, Bonnie Pruitt.

Minutes of the previous meeting were read by Cory Pruitt. After a few minor corrections, they were approved as read. read Sister Pruitt then correspondence concerning the Czech

Wednesday, July 3, 1985—VESTNiK/5 reported that they presented Janice Stanislav with $200. Miss Stanislav is a graduate of West High School. She has been a member of the Lodge 66 Youth Club since the age of 6. The Trust Fund Committee will present any youth with this gift as long as they are a member in good standing with the youth club of our lodge.

The Trust Fund Committee will also present the Merit Point System winners with the same amount of money they receive at YAD. Both of the issues were passed by the members.

Sister Parma thanked Brother Langlotz for continuing to pick up cans and then giving the money to the fund after they are sold. The lodge also gave $50 to the fund.

Sister Shilling then reported that the Entertainment Committee was serving sausage, cheese, crackers and cake that was provided by Sister Darlene Engelke in honor of her birthday. For the July meeting they will serve Blue Bell ice cream and asked the ladies to bring cookies. For Youth Activity Day they will be serving fried chicken with all the trimmings, with members of the lodge to bring desserts to be served.

Fraternal Committee Chairman Sister Jeanette Smith thanked Sister Irene Mueller for taking over in her absence. (Glad to have you back,Sister Jeanette). We always hate for anyone to be under the weather. She read two thank you notes, one from Monsignor B.J. Zientek and also Monsignor Frank Miller for the gift they received.

Sister Smith then asked that we present Dorothy Navarro, a terminal cancer patient, and 14 - year - old Shelly Damon each $100. The members voted and agreed to this.

Those receiving get - well cards were Msgr. Zientek, Silas Smith, Jim Locke, Henry Narovec, Willie Kyselka and Kathy Rossi.

Brother Smith came forward and thanked everyone for the cards and phone calls he received.

Brother Frank and Sister Libbie Parma donated a keg of beer for the membership's enjoyment after the meeting. This was in honor of their upcoming 50th anniversary.

The lodge members then voted and accepted four new members. They were Kimberly Kramer, Kenneth Lyons, David Whiteside and Stephen Story.

President Orsag then thanked the following for all of their help on putting up a fence. They were Joe Pruitt, George Shilling, Arthur Langlotz and Ira Nieswanger. He also thanked Brother Shilling for cutting down the dead trees around the hall.

All the members showed their appreciation by giving a round of applause.

President Orsag stated that October 27, Linden Hall would be the host of the District III fall meeting.

Our door prize winner was Sister Barbara Brem.

The Father's Day drawing was then held. The winners were: 2nd runner up -- Benito Leos, 1st runner - up -Weldon Galler and "Father of the Year" was Ira Nieswanger. Also, Mr. Tony Veselka received a six pack of beer since his name was drawn. Mr. Veselka is not a member of the lodge.

The youth club then held their Father's Day drawing. Winners were Leo Klimitchek, William Warren, Frank Leshikar, B.J. Vernetti, Ray Orsag, Emil Barek, Jim Locke and Frank Miller. They each received various gifts from shaving cream to socks.

Our meeting then adjourned.

87, Temple To Meet

The regular SPJST Lodge 87 meeting was called to order Friday evening, June 14 at 7 p.m. with Vice President Frank Machalek presiding.

Jerry Valchar led the lodge in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

Deceased members were remembered in silent tribute.

Dorothy Chervenka read the minutes of the previous meeting and the correspondence was read and discussed.

Various reports were given; old and new business was discussed.

Guests for the evening were Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Kozlonski from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Wilma Machalek and Millie Schiller.

A covered dish meal was served during the social hour honoring the fathers present. This was enjoyed by all.

Our best wishes to President Vlasta Jez who is convalescing from recent surgery; you are missed very much and we will be looking forward to seeing you at the July 12th meeting.

To others convalescing, we wish a speedy recovery.

Annie Plsek and Mary Zatopek announced that watermelon will be served at the next meeting.

Lodge 88 News

Houston

The Men's Club treated their ladies to another night out Friday, June 7th.

The club supplied and barbecued beef, pork ribs and chicken and the wives each furnished a covered dish. The cooks, Bennie Kocich, Milert Antrich, Ed Miculka, and Jerry Kolacny, did a superb job and the side dishes were especially delicious. After the evening meal, some couples went into the ballroom to dance to The Texas Brew while others played cards and visited.

It was an enjoyable evening and I'll thank the Men's Club in behalf of all the ladies for a lovely time.

The call of Las Vegas must have been loud and clear to vacationing couples from the lodge. Joe and Della Miksch motored there May 14 and then on to Torrance, California to visit Della's sister, Mrs. Lydia Peterson.

Royal and Laura Warnasch, with their daughter and son - in - law, Beverly and Ronny McGaughey, flew out June 13th, returning June 17th. Both Joe and Royal are smiling while the women didn't have much to say about the financial outcome. Steve and Estelle Kelly are just now back from their trip. Steve told me they came home on the longest day of the year, June 21stond that made for a long trip back. Steve found some other Lodge 88 people as they wandered in and out of the casinos in the downtown area -- Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Jurchak from New Orleans. Mr. Jurchak has retired and is in the process of selling their home and moving back to Texas where they lived before being transferred to Louisiana. Gladys and Ray Hagan also vacationed in Las

Vegas eturning home June 16th. Ray jokingly said, "We made our donation." Daughter , Sharon Jacobs spent four days with them and all reported a good time.

Laura Warnasch came home just in time to check into the hospital for more extensive testing. It was decided that no surgery is required at this time.

Laura is at home taking plenty of medicine and still not feeling very well.

She has hopes that she will start to feel better very soon.

Mrs. Emil Kilnar is recuperating at home following open heart surgery.

Husband Emil will be chief cook for awhile longer but Lena is feeling very well.

"The Texas Brew" plays in the Chandelier Ballroom Friday, July 5th, and "The Knights of Dixie" appear Saturday, the 6th. July 13, "Bobby Jones" and his country/western band will play. All these bands play a good variety of dance tunes.

Don't forget the lodge monthly meeting Monday, July 8th.

Happy Belated Father's Day! Our meeting was called to order by our Vice President Johnny Paprskar and Kelly Kubala led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Albert Kubala was presenting the City of Fort Worth with a Czechoslovak flag donated by our lodge. The flag will be displayed on special occasions along with 39 other countries represented there today.

Birthday wishes go to Brothers Joseph Baleja, Sammie George, Arthur Gillis, Robert F. Jones, Gerald Musgrove and Sisters Daisy Lee Boles, Tillie Gillis, Mildred Knopik, Nancy Paprskar, Bessie Prochaska, Terry Saenz, Elnor Rose Svacek, Frances Tirk, Lora S. Waco and Christine Zich.

Our deepest sympathy go to the family of Roy Hutchison, father of Brother Gary Lee Hutchison, and to the family of Lillie Matusevich, mother of our members Sister Lillian Cooper, Sister Helen Oujesky, and Brother Steve Matusevich. May they rest in peace.

We have two more graduates this month and they are Julie Whatley, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Whatley of. Irving, Texas; her grandmother is Dona Hubenak. Julie graduated from McArthur High School in Irving, and Stefany Cooper has graduated from Rice University.

She is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Cooper. Congratulations, Julie and Stefany!

As always, June is the month of wedding anniversaries. Lillie and W.H. (Mac) McMillen celebrated their 50th anniversary June 29th. Christine and Carl Zich celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary June 27th. Mary Ann and Kenneth Krivanek celebrated their 19th wedding anniversary June 18th. Happy Anniversary!

Our meeting next month will be 3unday, July 14 and a dance will start after the meeting at 5 p.m. The band will be the Czech Mates. Our Sunday dances are always a pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon, so we hope you will come join us.

In September, our lodge will be celebrating its 75th anniversary with a 2 - day celebration. Saturday, September 7 will be a dance featuring Harold Strand and his orchestra and Sunday, September 8 we will have a

dinner and dance featuring the Lone Star Czechs. I'll be giving you more details about it in later months,but I wanted to make sure you mark your calendars so you won't forget to come celebrate with us.

The June 12 meeting of Lodge 177, Academy was called to order at 7:30 p.m. by Vice President Otis Beck in the absence of President Bill Hutka.

Roll call of officers showed all present except President Bill Hutka.

All members stood for the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag.

Minutes from the last meeting were read and approved as read.

Correspondence was read from the First House thanking the lodge for two picnic tables and barbecue grill, also from Bell County Sheriff Dan Smith for the $500 for the Bell County Crimestoppers.

All reporting chairpersons had good reports; Ticket Chairperson Frances Love was absent had no report. Youth Leader Ann Tomastik reported nineteen members and one visitor present.

The Board of Trustees' report: Beginning June 22nd the dance tickets will be $4 per person; also discussed was changing air - conditioning.

We had six new members:Gary and Julie Lahnam, Faron and Martha Turner, and Tony and Janie Coakley.

Recording Secretary Pat Tomastik gave her resignation; the vice president thanked Pat for doing a good job and accepted her resignation. Dorothy Lisenbe was appointed to fill the position for the rest of this year as recording secretary.

We, of Lodge 177, were greatly saddened at the sudden death of one of our dearest members, Willie Dusek , who passed away Friday afternoon, June 21st. Willie was instrumental in getting our lodge started and'he will be sorely missed in our monthly meetings.

We offer our condolences to Willie's wife, Annie, and son.

Summer is here again and this is the beginning of a new day. God has given me this day to use as I will. I can waste it or use it for good. What I do today is very important, because I am exchanging a day of my life for it When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, leaving something in its place, have traded for it; I want it to be gain - not loss, good - not evil, cess - not ilure, in order that 1 (.he price I paid for it. niembers are on vacations, Gracie and I have a new toy and will be trying it out; we bought a Wennebago and first two weeks in July, and the second weekend in August we will be in San Marcos for the annual Sons of Hermann bowling

tournament, but I would like to remind you not to forget the next monthly meeting of SPJST, Lodge 183 at the lodge hall Monday, July 15; come about 6:30 p.m. for a "Pot Luck" covered dish meal before the meeting. The meeting will start at 7:30 p.m. The officers need to hear from you members about the upcoming Septemberfest; we also need help in getting everything together and organized, and need new ideas in what kind of entertainment to have.

Remember the first Sunday in December will be the fourth Christrnas Party to be held this year in Arlington at Lodge 183, Mid - Cities. If any of you can, help please; let the officers know because every little bit helps.

The next regular dance will be held July 20 with music by The Gamblers (country/western) music from 9 p.m. until 1 a.m.; bring all of your friends and neighbors; beer and set - ups will be available at the bar so BYOB. On the sick list this week is Inez Greenlees; she entered the hospital last week for surgery but as of Sunday, June 23rd) when I called her on the telephone she was doing fine and, by the time this letter goes to press, she will be home again and should be well on the way to recovery. You may call her or send her a card and wish her well. To the members at Lodge 183, she will get well soon and can get back to work; Inez, has been one of the faithful workers at the lodge since the lodge was organized. Get well, Inez, we miss you and our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Donations are still coming for little Shannon Smith; here is a little girl who needs a lot of help. She has a rare type of cancer that the doctors know very little about, so she needs all the help that she can get.

The camp schedule and dates will be published in a week or so and also our fall meeting will be here before we know it. It is scheduled at Lodge 29, Taylor, August 11th. Full details on these events will come later.

Dear District VI Youth Members: The annual Educational Tour will be Wednesday, July 24, to Galveston, Texas. The charter bus will leave Wal Mart in El Campo at 6 a.m. and return at 10 p.m.

This year we will be taking only one bus, a 47 - passenger. Active youth members will have first choice. You must notify your lodge leader if you are interested.

In Galveston we will visit Sea Arama, Transportation and Commerce Railroad Museum, Bishop Palace, American National Insurance Tower, and walk the sea wall.

The cost of the bus fare will be $10 -five dollars for bus fare and five dollars for Sea Ararna. You will need to bring your own drink and sack lunch.

Wear comfortable clothes, have a good attitude, and plan to have a great day.

Dear Vestnik Readers, After the meeting local Lodge No. Lodge 30 youth attended SPJST 49 members helped provide and serve summer camp at Bastrop State Park refreshments to all present. from June 16th to June 19th. We really Fraternally, had a great time and wished we could Linda Urbanek have stayed longer.

Youth Leader Every morning we exercised and SPJSTPJST— then had breakfast. After everyone ate, we sang songs together. After singing, we broke down into our age groups and did our activities. Our activities consisted of games, folk dancing, nature and crafts. We went swimming twice a day, except for Tuesday when it rained and we only got to swim in the morning. We always had delicious meals made by our cooks.

Every night we had court and then our night party. The first night we had a punk rock party where all the campers dressed up like punk rockers.

The second night, we had a nerd party.

Everyone dressed like a nerd, and we also played games and danced. The last night we put on a show for the

little kids and chaperones. The junior leaders did a TV theme program. We acted out game shows, videos, and a soap opera. All the parties were a lot of fun!

I would like to thank all the chaperones for helping make this year of camp so much fun. Also many thanks to our SL President, Mr. Howard Leshikar, for coming to visit us at camp; thanks to our State Youth Director, Mrs. Sue Meadows.and Mrs. Janet Marek, our District VI youth counselor, for doing a great job of running camp. Thanks also go to the cooks.

Services were held Thursday, May 2nd, at 2 p.m. at the Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Otis Watson officiating and burial took place at Rosemound Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Linda Crockett of Waco; a daughter, Sandra Metzger of Dallas; two sons, Clinton C. Crockett of Killeen and David C. Crockett of Austin; a sister, Arlene Vaugh of Waco; three grandchildren and one great - grandchild.

Sister Winberg was born May 5, 1924 in Clinton, Illinois to Josephine Kirby and Kenneth Leon Vandervort.

At the age of 18 she came to Angleton where she lived for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Life Church in Angleton.

She is survived by her husband, George Winberg; two sons, Kenny Eberspacher and Terry Eberspacher, both of Angleton; two daughters.

Laura Jenkins of Angleton and Debra Snider of Spring; mother, Josephine Tuggle of California; two sisters, Doris Camp of Illinois and Audry Peters of California.

Services were held May 6 at Lakewood Funeral Chapel with Reverend Muscarella officiating.

Mr. Marek was born September 5, 1960,near West. He lived in the West area all of his life. He graduated from West High School in 1979 . and attended the JC Campus of Victoria College at Gonzales for two years. He also attended the University of Texas for two years and attended San Jose State University in California for one year.

He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. He also was a member of the KJT Society No. 31 in West and the SPJST Lodge No. 6 of Cottonwood.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Edward J. Marek of West; three sisters, Mrs. Clint Stone of San Angelo, Mrs. Richard Schroeder and Theresa Marek, all of West; and a grandmother, Mrs. Joe R. Marek of West.

Pallbearers were David Pavlovsky, Herbert Brem, Burl Shelton, Jimmy Pavlovsky, Joe Frank Mynar and Kevin Marek.

Charles was born in Hill County, Texas. He graduated from West High School in 1955. He was a newspaper

reporter for several years and local sports reporter for the Booster Club.

He worked at the Deputy District Court since 1971. He was a loyal Trojan fan for all sports activities.

Brother Conner was presented a 27 year plaque in 1984 for serving in the West Little League Booster Club as an officer and director. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in West and SPJST Lodge No. 6, Cottonwood.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist Church of West with the Rev. Mark Whitten officiating. Burial was in Bold Springs Cemetery.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mansel Conner of West; one brother, James Conner of Mesquite; two sisters, Mrs. Marvin (Carol) Owens of West and Mrs. Robert (Shelia) Wilde of San Antonio.

WILLIE J. HA NZELKA, age 78 years, who passed away May 14, 1985 following a lenghty illness, at Manor Nursing Home in Wharton, Texas.

Brother Hanzelka was born in Smithville, Texas, December 25, 1906, to Joe and Emily (Polasek) Hanzelka.

In 1932 he moved to East Bernard and, in 1937, he married Frances Cervenka.

He was a member of the Holy Cross Catholic Church and SPJST Lodge No. 28, East Bernard.

A wake service was held at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, May 16 at the Davis Dawson Funeral Home in East Bernard. Funeral services for Brother Hanzelka were held at 10 a.m. May 17 at Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Interment followed at Holy Cross Cemetery with Father Joe Vrana officiating with Father Michael Krol of Wallis, assisting. Barney Morris served as organist and Alphonse Smaistrla was a lector.

WILLIE HUBENAK, who passed away Sunday morning, May 26, 1985.

Brother Hubenak was born in the Merle community near Snook November 10, 1906. He was the son of the late John and Frances (Lednicky) Hubenak.

October 22, 1928, rother Hubenak was married to Olga Rosie Jakubik in Caldwell, Texas. He was engaged in farming and later in ranching.

Brother Hubenak was a member of the Snook Brethren Church and was a 50 - year member of our SPJST Lodge No. 9. His presence in our community will be missed by all of us.

A prayer service for Brother Hubenak was held May 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Strickland Funeral Home Chapel in Somerville. The Rev. Henry Beseda officiated at the prayer service and also at the funeral service which was held Tuesday, May 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the Snook Brethren Church.

Burial followed in the Snook Cemetery.

Brother Hubenak was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances Hubenak; one sister, Minnie Macik; one step - sister, Lydia Macik; one half - sister, Milady Gonzales; and three half - brothers, Julius Hubenak, Delphine Hubenak and Jerry Hubenak.

After a short wedding trip to San Antonio, the couple has returned to Lubbock to begin their jobs there.

The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Bobby L. Wuensche of Route 2, Taylor. The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert A. Seigmund of 1006 George, Taylor.

The bride and groom are graduates of Taylor High School and both are students of Texas Tech University in Lubbock. The bride is a junior with a mathematics education major. She has been employed in the reading lab of the school.

The groom took his marketing degree from Texas Tech in 1984, with Magna Cum Laude distinction. He is now in a master's program there. He is a Phi Kappa Phi and Beta Gamma Sigma member and is facilities manager in computer services in the Business College of the school.

A rehearsal dinner was hosted by the groom's family in the recreational hall of the church the evening before the wedding.

Seigmund-VVuensche Wedding The Taylor Brethren Church was the setting for the May 18, 1985, afternoon wedding of Miss Virginia Eilene Wuensche and Billy Wayne Seigmund.

The Rev. Daniel J. Marek heard the couple's vows in the church where candelabra:. were accented with rose bows and greener y . On the altar were rose gladioli and red carnations with greenery. The family pews were marked with rose bows.

Velma Kubala was organist and Dawn Kubala was vocalist for the ceremony.

Attendants of the bride included Shelia Srnensky as maid of honor and Mrs. Kathy Stone as matron of honor.

Bridesmaids were Sherill Ripple, Jennifer Koenig, Paula Zetak, Sylvia Trevino, Kathryn Seigmund, sister of the groom, Connie Schneider, Mary Martinez, Denise Wunesche, sister of the bride, Terry Juarez, Cynthia DeLaRose, Erika Kiesling and Angela Seigmund.

The attendants were floor - length ivory taffeta dresses with ivory lace covering the bodice. Each carried a long stemmed red rose with rose and pink streamers. The two honor attendants each carried one red and one white rose with rose and pink streamers.

Leyanne Clearman, dressed in white taffeta and lace accented with roses, was the flower girl.

Best man for the groom was Robert Stone. His groomsmen were Carhon Brown, Edmund Raesz, Brad Moss, Carl Holliday, Russell Bartosh, Frank Walker, Kurt Sobotik, Thomas Martinez, Steven Pruess, Burt Carmona. Willy Zucknick, Darrell

For her wedding she chose a replica of her mother's wedding dress, made by Evelyn Schneider. It had long sleeves that came to a point over the wrists.

The waist was made with a round scalloped neckline atop the empire body. Five rows of scalloped venise lace ended in a large bottom scallop to finish the skirt and its train.

Rhinestones and sequins trimmed the bride's dress. She wore her mother's wedding petticoat.

Her headpiece of silk flowers and pearls was trimmed with sequins and venise lace. She carried a bouquet of red and white long stemmed roses accented with rose and pink streamers.

A reception. following the wedding was held in the SPJST Hall with Linda Brewer, Betty Zimmerhanzel, Juanette Susan, Ruby Roznovak, Alice Wuensche, Evelyn Schneider, Shirley Wuensche, Carol Wuensche, Lillian Taylor, Loretta Dryer, Diane Clearman, Jackie Roznovak, Kristie Wuesnche, Rhonda Kiesling, Dena Wuensche, Paula Wuensche, Karen Raesz, Pam Brown, Kathty Biar, Karen Biar, Peggy Biar, Ruthie Brinkmeyer and Kim Brune as members of the houseparty. Through the storms of winter and the shimmering heat of summer, she has stood majestically for nearly a century as a symbol of America's independence and strength. For millions of immigrants fleeing hunger, turmoil and oppression in the Old World, the Statue of Liberty was their first glimpse of a New World that promised freedom, hope, and opportunity.

Now nearing her 100th anniversary (1986), Lady Liberty is quickly succumbing to the ravages of time and the elements. Her gigantic iron framework is corroded, and structural problems require, extensive renovation.

The 200,000 pounds of hand hammered copper sheathing that cover her framework are in serious'disrepair.

But once again the Americ m people, whose forebears earlier gathered contributions to build the pedestal on which the Statue rests, are being called upon to help raise money to restore her and nearby Ellis Island, where immigrants were processed until 1954. May 18, 1982, President Reagan

and Secretary of the Interior James G. Watt announced the formation of The Statue of Liberty - Ellis Island Centennial Commission and appointed Lee A. Iacocca, Chrysler's chairman and chief executive officer, as its chairman. Plans were also approved to raise $230 million for the project, an amount equal to only about one dollar from every American citizen.

The Commission's goals, in addition to raising money, are: to advise the National Park Service and Department of Interior in establishing a lasting memorial to the immigrants who built America; to plan and implement centennial commemoration events; and to develop plans for the Statue of Liberty - Ellis Island National Monument after the centennial celebrations.

Symbol of Freedom Of all the symbols of U.S. freedom and independence, the Statue of Liberty undoubtedly ranks second only to the American flag throughout the world. Although known universally as the Statue of Liberty, the official name of this national monument is "Liberty Enlightening the World." The 151 - foot - tall statue was presented to the United States in 1884 as a gift from the people of France.

The idea of a monument to Franco American friendship was the brainchild of Professor Edouard Rene LeFebvre de Laboulaye, a distinguished legal scholar. It was designed and executed by Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, a French sculptor who had been commissioned by de Laboulaye to do a bust of the scholar.

Bartholdi's masterwork - the Statue of Liberty - was conceived originally in a far different form in Suez, Egypt, in 1856.

Bartholdi said he first envisioned the West handing civilization to the East in accord with the expansion of Europe in the second half of the 19th century.

Visually, this was represented in his imagination as a lighthouse at Suez, in the form of a beautiful woman draped in a flowing robe with her right arm extended upward holding a torch. By the time this concept evolved into the Statue of Liberty, only the figure of a toga - clad woman holding a torch survived.

In Bartholdi's mind, the torch moved from the lighthouse at Suez to a harbor in the United States, and the light that shone forth was not of western civilization passing to the East but of liberty nurtured in the New World streaming back to light the way for the Old. Hrabal Reunion The Hrabal Family Reunion will be held Saturday, July 13, 1985 at the SPJST Lodge 6 Hall at Cottonwood.

Registration at 10 a.m.; socializing, 11 a.m. (barbecue dinner and drinks will be available) to 2 p.m.; games 2 to 3 p.m.; business meeting, 3 p.m.; also auction and prizes. Bring a late brunch and arrive early. Sunday, July 14 at the Old Main Lodge on 135 and 4th Street, Waco, coffee will be available at the poolside, 9 a.m. A buffet style brunch from 10:30 to 11 a.m. at the Sheraton Hotel (across 135 from the Old Main Lodge). Bartek Reunion The annual Bartek Reunion will be held July 14, 1985 at the Seaton Star Hall (Lodge 47). Registration will begin at 11 a.m. and serving will begin at 1 p.m. This year in place of families bringing covered dishes, there will be barbecue and all the trimmings served at the hall. The cost will be $2.50 per plate for adults and guests, $1.50 for children under 12. For your listening and dancing entertainment music will be furnished by the H.O.T. CZECHS (Heart of Texas Czechs). Those wishing to help with the barbecuing may come early; all help will be appreciated. Also those wishing to bring desserts may do so.
