SPJST Promotes Czech Language
Sweet Home Member Celebrates Birthday Sister Julia Emily Havlik was recently honored on her 96th birthday at the Trinity Lutheran Home where she presently resides: The highlight of her birthday party was the presentation of a check for the face amount of her life insurance certificate and a Certificate of Recognition. Present at the special occasion were friends and relatives, representatives of Lodge No. 63 and the Supreme Lodge. Julia Emily Havlik was born June 13, 1889, in Fayetteville, Texas in the community of Roznov to John and Anna Baron Halamicek. She was one of twelve children. April 13, 1909, she was married to Charles John Havlik, who was the school teacher in the community named and settled by her father. Their marriage was blessed with nine children: Lad of San Angelo, Charles Jr., Lawrence, Julia Bernshausen of Yoakum; Lillie Mae Keilers, Martha Sirey, Alice Wisley of Houston; Anita Havran of La Grange and Anne Rubac of Gonzales. Mrs. Havlik has 28 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, and 3 great - great grandchildren. Upon their retirement, they moved on a farm near Sweet Home, Texas where they enjoyed their country life and visits from their children. Both remained active in Lodge No. 63

A donation is being made from the SPJST for teaching the Czech language at Flatonia High School in Fayette County. Accepting 'the check are Principal Frank Schulle [left] and Instructor Michael Winnett while SPJST District I Director Ben F. Trcalek of Caldwell is making the presentation. The check is being presented by SL Secretary/Treasurer Leonard Mikeska. Witnessing the presentation is District VI Director Matt Vanek who later presented her with a lifetime membership certificate. ***
