Lodge 18 Presents Charitable Donations

Bozena (Petr) Brozek Outlives Policy Sister Bozena (Petr) Brozek was recently honored on her 96th birthday at the home of her daughter, Georgia Brozek. Sister Brozek reached a milestone to outlive the actuarial table of her SPJST policy. She was

presented with a Certificate of Recognition in behalf of the SPJST by District III Director Brother Sid Pokladnik.

Bozena (Petr) Brozek was born May 10, 1889 in Hlinsko, Czechoslovakia.

She came to the United States in 1885 with her parents, Frank, Sr., and Ann Petr, and one brother and three sisters.

Thank you. *** Here are some facts based on nationwide interviews on how insurance program apply in a survey of 38,000 households in 1985.

About 85 percent of the U.S. population in the fourth quarter of 1983 was covered by a health insurance plan; a private plan covered 75 percent.

About 86 percent of Whites were covered by a health plan compared with 78 percent of Blacks and 71 percent of Hispanics. About three fourths of Whites were covered by a private plan as were about one - half of Blacks and Hispanics.

Average household monthly income rose from $2,180 in the third quarter of 1983 to $2,220 in the fourth quarter.

About 102 million people had jobs in the third and fourth quarters of 1983.

About 18 percent of households took part in public assistance programs in 1983's fourth quarter, up from 15.4 percent in the third quarter. *** The news is good for prospective home buyers. The downward drift of mortgage rates of the past five weeks is expected to continue through late summer or early fall. At last count, average rates for conventional, fixed rate mortgages dropped to 13.07 percent, reports the Federal Home Loan Mortgage Corporation. That compares with 13.27 percent a month earlier and 13.78 percent a year ago.

The decline in rates, combined with gains in family income, has meant an increase in the size of mortgages that families can afford. In March, a typical family could qualify for a loan on a house priced at $66,000 -- the highest average ever recorded -- notes the National Association of Realtors. *** What, if anything, ordinary citizens can do to reduce the public debt. The short answer is not much . In 1984, individuals donated 1.9 million dollars, about twice the 1983 figure, to help pay off the public debt.

Unfortunately, that does not begin to make a dent in the debt, which reached 1.7 trillion at the end of March. Still, the IRS will accept cash, stocks, bonds and other forms of property. Such gifts are tax - deductible. Social Security recipients -- if they choose -can even donate their monthly benefits, reserving the right to change their minds. **

It is true that more than ten million older Americans now own their own homes without any outstanding mortgage. Many of those homes have built up a sizable equity. But how does an owner get at it without selling out?

Lenders offer several programs to help cashshort homeowners raise their monthly incomes by drawing upon the equity in their dwellings. The Senate Committee on Aging provides these examples of home - equity conversions: Reverse - annuity mortgage (RAM) is a loan against the equity in your home, paid to you in monthly installments over a set period of time, often ten years. In a 10 - year loan with a fixed interest rate of 14 percent, plus some fees and other charges, equity of $120,000 would provide a monthly income of $463. After ten years, you would have to repay or renegotiate the loan.

Sale and lease - back plan, the investor buys your home, often at a discounted price, and you retain the right to rent it for the remainder of your life or for a more limited time.

You can receive payment in a lump sum or divided into equal monthly payments based upon an annuity purchased by the investor. If you wish, you can have your rent deducted from the monthly mortgage payment you receive.

Deferred - payment loan, you borrow against your equity and defer payment of all principal and interest either for a specified term or until you sell your house. a DPL can be helpful if you need cash, for example, to fix up your house before selling it.

Bear in mind, however, that once you embark on any form of home equity conversion, you surrender your right to sell the property or pass it on to your heirs until loan repayment is arranged. Be sure to consult your lawyer or investment counselor before acting. *** In coming weeks, food shoppers should begin to see nutritional content labels on prewrapped cuts of meat sold in the nation's supermarkets. The labels, similar to those found on processed - food packaging, will spell out the amount of cholesterol, sodium and fat -- as well as calories, vitamins and minerals -found in each cut of beef, pork or lamb. The new labels will contain some good news. The Agriculture Department's latest research shows that red meat is significantly lower in fat and calories than was previously thought. Beef, for example, has 10 percent fewer calories than it did 30 years ago, when the last such study was done.

People moving to or visiting new areas this summer should be alert to the danger of flash floods, warns the National Weather Service. More than 20,000 towns and recreational areas with flood plains have been identified as sites for possible flash floods, which take an average of 200 lives each year.

After a heavy downpour, waters can rise so quickly that it is not always possible to warn people in time To play it safe: Heed flood - evacuation warnings. Avoid low - lying areas and washes. Observe safety barriers near flood waters. Camp away from streams, many of which are subject to rapid flooding, and keep children from playing near storm drains and culverts. ***

From The Secretary Treasurer's Office Fraternal Activities May 21, 1985 Dear Members: We have just concluded a fraternal activities survey of our local lodges.

The results are very encouraging and indicate that the SPJST is alive and well. Many fraternal acts were accomplished this past year and the lives of many people were touched by the unselfish acts performed in many communities throughout this great state.

The fraternal activities survey just concluded is conducted annually in cooperation with the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA). Even now fraternal societies are faced with the threat of loss of our tax exemption.. The facts and figures gathered from our lodges is being put to good use to demonstrate the services provided by our fraternal benefit system.

In the area of activities, our lodges, during 1984, held 7,807 lodge and youth club meetings and activities, an increase of 19 percent over the previous year. The amount expanded on fraternal activities was $133,877.96.

The amount donated to benevolent and charitable causes was $136,828.62, an increase of 13 percent.

Additionally our lodge members performed 78,416 acts of fraternal service and devoted 157,744 hours to fraternal and community service.

There is no way to determine the dollar value of these services but we can be certain that this did involve many people.

The fraternal benefit system may be

Anton Brozek. The couple engaged in the occupation of farming until their retirement in 1953. Sister Brozek and her husband, Anton, moved to Dallas in 1959 to live with their daughter, Georgia Brozek. In July 1962, Sister Bozena Brozek's husband, Anton, passed away.

Their marriage was blessed with five children. Her surviving children are Miro Brozek, Mildred Patak, Georgia Brozek and Emil Brozek. One son, Charlie Brozek, passed away in 1980.

Sister Brozek also has six grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Sister Bozena Brozek presently resides with her daughter, Georgia Brozek. Her hobbies are reading and watching television. Her favorite television program is watching the Dallas Cowboys football games.

The SPJST Supreme Lodge, and the members of SPJST Lodge No 135, Ennis, extend congratulations and best wishes to Sister Brozek and wishes her well.

A Special Thanks To Lodge 88 SPJST And Friends In the May 22, 1985 issue of the Vestnik, I read with grateful appreciation of the gifts of $1,000 each to the S.P.J.S.T. Rest Homes at Taylor and Needville. As chairman of the Board of our Rest Homes, I wish to thank Lodge No 88, Houston for their interest and generosity in helping to carry on the fine work of caring for our guests in each home.

Lodge 4, Hallettsville Meeting Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday, May 12, 1985 at the Grant Building with President Linda Mikush presiding.

The pledge to the flag was led by Evelyn Holy.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes to the previous meeting which were approved.

Correspondence was read and discussed.

Treasurer Helen Zabransky and Financial Secretary Hilmer Geletka gave their reports.

Since there was no new business, the meeting adjourned. Refreshments and lunch were served.

April, May and June birthdays were honored. Those present with a birthday in these months were Helen

Zabransky and Julius Galetka. Sister Zabransky won the birthday cake.

A special Mother's Day door prize of a plant went to Evelyn Holy. Door prize was won by Vicky Zak. Our next meeting will be Sunday, June 9 at the Grant Building beginning at 2 p.m. as usual.

13, Dime Box May Meeting

Lodge

Our monthly meeting held Sunday, May 19, 1985 began with a delicious fried chicken meal which was enjoyed by members and workers of Lodge No. 13.

At 1:20 p.m., President Claude Flippin called the meeting to order with 27 members and guests present.

President Flippin thanked everyone for coming and hoped they were having a good time.

The Pledge of Allegiance was led by -Flagbearer Trudy Krenek.

Roll call of officers found twelve present and one absent.

The reports were given and all were approved as read.

Several letters from the Supreme Lodge were read and discussed. They concerned liability insurance, SPJST Cemetery, conventions and the domino tournament.

A discussion was held on our serving of keg beer at weddings and reunions.

Ronnie Langham is donating 100 pitchers advertising "Something Special" in Dime Box, to the lodge, leaving the lodge to have to purchase only 100 more pitchers. Thank you, Ronnie!

A young lady approached the lodge about having another wrestling match.

After discussion and a vote, it was decided not to have it.

Lodge No. 13 welcomes two new members to our membership. They are Zelda Morino and Monica P. Marmolejo.

The drawing of door prizes was next. The results were: 1st - Arnold Tydlacka, 2nd - Albin Horak, Jr., 3rd - Albina Milburn.

The meeting adjourned at 2:30 p.m.

18 Donates $500 To Elgin VF Dept. Bldg. Fund

Lodge

Vice President Dale Kessel presided at our May 21 meeting, in the absence of President Morris Boutwell, who was unable to attend because his job sometimes calls for night duty.

The Pledge of Allegiance was recited by all members present.

All other officers were present. All reports given were accepted.

We had the pleasure of having Brother and Sister Frank Klinkovsky at this meeting. Frank is our Distict II youth counselor. He was with us to make plans for District II Youth Achievement Day to be held at Lodge No. 18, July 14th. We invite all members of District II to be with us this day. Please come and support our youth in the district.

May, has been a very busy time at ,odge 18. May 4, we had our annual May Fete; a well planned and beautiful

4/VESTNIK—Wednesday, June 5, 1985 May Fete. Thanks to Pat and Curtis Young, our youth leaders, for the many hours of hard work put in on the May Fete and with our youth every year.

May 16, we had five Elgin School bands perform in concert and a potluck supper before the concert.

This event was well - attended by the community.

May 17, the All Sports' Banquet was held at Lodge 18. A barbecue meal was served, and many awards were presented to Elgin students.

May 19, the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department held their annual barbecue and fund - raising at Lodge 18. This is an annual affair, but this year was very special because the department is building a new Fire Hall.

The fire department sold over 1800 plates of barbecue and auctioned many cakes. The Elgin community is very proud of the fire department. This group of fine young men are hard working, concerned, and protect our community night and day. We say a "BIG THANK YOU" to the Elgin Volunteer Fire Department.

Lodge 24, Cyclone Discusses Activities Dear Readers: Our May meeting was called to order by President David Vanicek; all officers were present. The Pledge of Allegiance was led by the flagbearers.

The youth started off the meeting by presenting each of their mothers with a potted plant during the assembly for Mother's Day. I know all the mothers would like to say "Thank you" for remembering them.

Birthday celebrants are Louise Zavodny, Nancy and Larry Posvar, Bernise Sebek and Carol Chervenka.

"Happy Birthday" to all of you!

New members are Randy Shinker, Kenneth and Monica Drake and Kristyn Reinders. I hope to see you at our hall functions.

Several thank you notes were read concerning donations sent to area organizations.

The Supreme Lodge is helping sponsor a domino tournament; the games will be held starting at a local level at the hall (Lodge No. 24) for each lodge, then winners will advance to state playoffs. The cost is $5.00 per person. The games will be either straight domino or "42". We need to know if anyone is interested in participating at Flag Hall. Please let us know as soon as possible.

Remember to bring goodies (food and clothing) for the child abuse center. Some items were donated at the last meeting, but more things are needed.

29, Taylor May Meeting

The SPJST Taylor Lodge No. 29 held their regular monthly meeting Sunday, May 12, at 4 p.m.

Darrell Malicat and April Gorley, representing the Youth Club, presented the flag and led the members reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. Members remained standing for a few moments in silence for our deceased members, Paul Kiepac and Charlie Pish.

We had roll call of officers -- all were present except Leroy Marx (Property Committee member). They had to attend the May Fete at Richland where Troy and Jennie were representing Taylor SPJST Lodge No. 29.

The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report and Property Committee report were also given.

President Adamek wished every mother a "Happy Mother's Day." We also had some special guests with us, namely, District H Director Willie E. Kohutek and his wife, Adeline; we were very happy that they attended our meeting and we welcome them back anytime. We were reminescing the good times that we had at our convention last year in Corpus Christi.

New applicants received in our lodge are Christopher Thomas Zigolo, Robert Anthony Rios, Brian Kelly Rios, Deanna Renee Rios, Bradley James Alexander and Gregory Norman Bickwermert.

Youth Leader Melvin Steger reported 22 members and 9 adults were present at their meeting. There are 29 youth members eligible for YAD and camp. They had election of youth club officers. He also reported that YAD will be held July 14 at Lodge 18 in Elgin. Camp days will be August 2nd through 8th.

President Adamek reported that Lodge 29 is sponsoring a baseball team. There will be more about this later.

Door prizes were won by Tina Gorley, Edith Shiner and Florence Miksch.

Our next meeting will be Sunday, June 9 at 4 p.m.

40, El Camp Hillje To Honor Members

Dear Vestnik Readers and Friends: The monthly meeting of El Campo Hillje, Lodge No. 40, was held Wednesday, May 15th. President James Kulcak started the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance and a silent prayer.

Secretary Laverne Bacak called the roll of officers. All were either present or had excused their absences.

The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as reported in the Vestnik.

Treasurer Leona Macha gave a report on all financial matters and followed with a report on Family Day plans. She will be sending postcards to remind members of the upcoming get together. President Kulcak expressed thanks to Sister Macha for the good job of keeping-up with all the accounts and tending to tax forms.

He received a thank you from Scholarship Recipient Janna M. Werner, and a letter from Bob Bullock explaining the problems involved with bingo licenses not going out on time.

Youth Leader Vlasta Bartos reported on the hamburger supper for graduating youth club members.

Several adults attended inservice workshops. Youth are busy preparing for camp and YAD. Winner of this month's door prize was Brother James Kulcak.

Dance At Lodge 66, Waco

Our regular monthly meeting was held May 19, with President Orsag calling it to order at 2:30 p.m.

Flagbearers Chris Owen and Bill Warren came forward with the flags, while Kevin Owen led everyone in the pledge.

Everyone was asked to remain standing for a moment of silence for our deceased member, David Crockett.

All officers were present and the minutes of our April meeting were read and approved.

President Orsag then praised the members who attended the District III spring meeting in Elk. Our lodge had the second highest attendance recorded. He thanked everyone for attending. Our lodge will be the site for the District III fall meeting in October.

Sister Pruitt then read from President correspondence Howard Leshikar concerning a domino tournament, Financial Secretary Jerry Mikulas sent a letter concerning delegates will be allowed to the next convention „also a letter from Secretary/Treasurer Leonard Mikeska concerning liability insurance.

Brother Shilling gave the report concerning the Board meeting.

The Auditing Committee found the books, for the first quarter, all in order.

It was reported that the fence that was put up around the lodge had been cut down in several places. A short Board meeting was to be held after the regular meeting to discuss this problem.

Youth Leader Kay Owen reported that the youth held election of officers.

They also turned in their YAD cards in order to be eligible. They donated $50 to the Libbie Parma Trust Fund. For Father's Day the youth will bring something to give at a drawing. There were two graduates from our lodge, namely, Janice Stanislav from West High School and Karen Shelton from MCC. Sister Libbie Parma reported receiving $25 from the sale of aluminum cans, $50 from the youth club, and $50 from the lodge.

Entertainment Chairman Dorothy Shilling gave her report. Everyone enjoyed a covered dish meal. Mary Langlotz fixed all the flower arrangements that would be given out by a drawing later for Mother's Day. Next month the lodge would serve summer sausage, cheese and crackers.

Sister Engelke will donate a big birthday cake in honor of her birthday. Prizes will be given for Father's Day. Sister Irene Mueller reported that Fraternal Committee suggested giving $100 each to Monsignor Zientek and Miller for their appointments. They are both members of our lodge. The motion carried.

Sister Nors reported having sent get well wishes to Chris Spence, Jr., Frank Kolenovsky and Tim Urbanek.

Sympathy cards were sent to Mr. and Mrs. Robert Pavelka.

Entertainment At Lodge 66, Waco The Entertainment Committee met May 1, 1985. We decided to ask the ladies to bring summer sausage, cheese and crackers to the June 16th lodge meeting. The Entertainment Committee will furnish the chips, coffee and ice tea. Sister Darlene Engelke is providing the cake, which we really do appreciate, since our meeting is on Father's Day, so all of you fathers come out and spend the afternoon with us. There will be drawings, with money as prizes for you!

Another topic of discussion at our meeting was the prices of the meals at our upcoming District III YAD meeting for June 30th. We have lowered the prices to $2.50 per child's plate and $3.50 per adult plate. We hope these new prices will be satisfactory. We will be looking for each and all of you out on this special day of events for our youth. We have started asking ladies what special cake or pie they would like to donate for this YAD. Sister Dorothy Shilling has a pad for those who will sign up for this donation. We sure need your help.

We had 62 members present at our May lodge meeting. In honor of Mother's Day, three lucky mothers received real pretty floral arrangements, provided by the Entertainment Committee. They were made by Sister Mary Alice Langlotz.

Our chairperson, Sister Dorothy Shilling, was honored in observance for her two years of faithful service to our committee.

Sister Libby Parma donated a beautiful "Tiger Lilly" plant, which was given to another lucky mother.

Our gratitude goes to Sister Parma for the donation.

The Youth Club also distributed more pretty flowers to several other mothers present.

Everyone seemed to enjoy the day, especially the scrumptious casseroles all the ladies brought. We thank you all for your continued support to our requests to bring this or that to the next meeting. So far, our meals have been self - supporting, as far as expenses that cost our lodges goes.

Again, thanks ladies!

We sure do miss seeing all of you at the dances. We do hope we can expect each of you at a FREE admission dance we will be having June 22nd.

This dance will be an "APPRECIATION DANCE" for all of the members, and any others who patronize our hall.

Sister Engelke then explained how the mailing of refund checks works. If you want to keep receiving a refund check sign the attached slip with it and mail it in. If the slip is not signed the amount will then be turned into additional insurance.

Our door prize was won by Carolyn Bailey.

Mother's Day prize winners were Sisters Annie Hanus, Mother of the Year; 1st runner - up, Dorothy Warren; 2nd runner - up, Matilda Hanus.

Winner of the pillow was Darlene Engelke and the Day Lily was won by Marcella Kucera.

The Entertainment Committee presented Sister Shilling with a flower to show their appreciation for a job well done.

The youth held a Mother's Day drawing. Meeting Of Lodge 92, Ft. Worth May

Our May meeting was called to order by President Albert Kubala.

Birthday wishes were expressed to Brothers William Arwine, Jaromir Becan, Charles Botik, Henry Langer, Buel Matthews, John Mikeska, Joseph Paprskar, John Shepelwich and to Sisters Hermina Cihacek, Phyllis Cihacek, Esta Belle Hubenak, Anne Juran, Laverne Lackey, Clara Ledbetter, Anne Polk and Mary Rankin. "Happy Birthday" and many more!

Our deepest sympathy to Sister Justine Chaloupka and her family; her husband, Brother Rudy Chaloupka, died this May. Brother Chaloupka will be greatly missed by all of us. May he rest in peace.

I am sure that Brother Rudy Chaloupka was very proud of his grandson, Steven McLendon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bill McLendon. Steven will be leaving for Portsmouth, England, July 14 to participate in the Invitational Soccer Tournament called "The Portsmouth Cup." Steven and a selected group of boys from all over the U.S. will be playing boys from all over Europe. Steven will start to Bell High School next fall and won't he have some exciting stories to tell. Good luck, Steven!

Our benefit dance for the "KASH for KIDS" program was a great success, if you didn't make it, you missed a fun - time. Sister Sherrie Watkins won the beautiful quilt donated by Mrs. Molly Walker.

Sherrie gave the quilt to her mother - in - law, Mrs. Betty Read, and Helen Holford won the wonderful Waterford crystal bowl donated by Mr. Jack Miller.

Stier Sherrie Watkins and I want to thank everyone for their help with this benefit. The band that provided the music was the Country goys Polka Band of Ennis. I think there were quite a few of us who wished we could have danced to their music a few hours longer. Thanks to Sansom Park Police Departthent for their time given on a Sunday afternoon fingerprinting the children at the dance.

A special thanks to our Youth Leader Gordon Hubenak and his youth department for the help with the benefit, they really worked hard in the kitchen and running the fund - raising project.

Our Lodge No. 92 has donated a Czechoslovakian flag to the City of Fort Worth to be displayed along with 40 flags of other countries. The dedication ceremony will be at 2:30 p.m. June 9 at the Fort Worth City Hall, with the Mayor of Fort Worth and other representatives of the city present.

This has been a long, report but there is so much going on this month. Thank you for reading and I will write again in June.

Dear Brothers and Sisters: Wednesday night, May 1, we played The Bandits and we won by a score of 2 to 0. This was our third straight win; a very good start thus far. The winning pitcher was Lionel Schulz who hurled the first 4 innings allowing one hit, one strikeout and no walks. Mike Moeller hurled the last 2 innings allowing two hits, two strikeouts and no walks.

Say it's good to see Larry (Connie) Brennan come out of retirement and to be playing with the team this year. It was good to see Otto Janousek at the game, like old times and also Carlyn Ondrusek and Oscar and Erna Schneider, plus a lot of the wives and children of the players, namely, Ida Schulz, Lillie Jarma, Mindy Yates, Zach and Timmy, Debbie Jarma and Holly, Joann Manak, Pam Walker, Carla Clements, Cathy Lennox, Scott and Elan II, Betty Barton and Jessica.

Why don't a lot of you "used - to - be fans" come out and root for the team, again, like old times and it would be a good chance for visiting together; do come!

Our next game was Thursday, May 9 against The First Methodist Team and we won by a score of 4 to 1. The winning pitcher was Mike Moeller who pitched the first 5 innings allowing one hit, two walks and eleven strikeouts, and Lionel Schulz hurled the last 2 innings allowing two hits, no walks and one strikeout.

Hitters were Dan Palm with 2 singles, Tom Stites with a double and a RBI, Tommy Yates, a single and a RBI, Danny Yates with a double, a single and a RBI, Bart Walker with a single and Don Lennox with a single.

Next games to be reported were our Fort Worth Tournament games the weekend of Saturday, May 11th. (I am a little behind with my reports, but hope to get caught up in the near future.)

We are scheduled to play Tuesday, June 4 game at 8:10 p.m. against Curry Leasing and remember Wednesday, June 12 at 8:10 p.m. against Adairs/Tex Turf and Wednesday, June 19 against CasaView Baptist. This should allow you to see some of the games, do come out, the team will appreciate your presence and, hopefully, your cheers.

District VI Campers

Attention

Dear Campers: District VI camp will be held June 16 - 19 at Bastrop State Park in Bastrop.

We are to arrive at the park at 2 p.m. Lodges are to let me know how they are planning to ride to camp so we can combine our travel arrangements.

You will need to bring the following items to camp: Swimsuit, beach towel, shoes, casual clothes for 3 days, good walking shoes for hiking, 2 bed sheets, pillow, a light blanket, flashlight, towels, washcloth, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste, T shirt for autographing, blue jeans for hiking, also a small fan would be helpful.

You will need the following costumes for our night parties: Nerd Night, Punk Rock Party and TV Theme. The TV Theme will be a favorite personality or a character from a TV program.

A cap or hat, insect repellent, and suntan lotion would be advisable.

For our outdoor study, you will need a 3 - lb coffee can plus a 1 lb coffee can. If you have extras, please bring them. If you have a tube can such as Pringle pototo chips or Kool aid can plus an old pair of nylon stockings for our bug traps would be helpful in our outdoor study.

You will be busy with arts/craft. We will do a nature study.

Come with a cheerful attitude and a big smile. Be willing to do your best in all activities.

Be sure that your camp forms are notarized.

Lodge 32, Victoria YC Elects Officers Dear Readers, The youth club of Lodge No. 32 held their May 5 meeting at the home of Youth Leader Frances Motal.

We elected officers for the coming year. They are: President - Heather Spears Vice President - Jennifer Koutny Secretary - Aaron Spears Treasurer - Jessica Koutny Reporter - (Each member will write a report).

Sunshine - Kendra Richardson Photographer - Jason Motal We discussed ideas for several different booths that we will operate at the Czech F'est to be held June 29, at the Victoria Community Center. We invite everyone to come and enjoy themselves and have a great time with us.

We also talked about the dance to be held May 26, from 5 to 9 p.m., at the Country Inn on Bloomington Hwy. It will benefit the Child Abuse Prevention Alliance of Victoria.

Camp was also brought up and some of the details were discussed. It sounds like it will be lots of fun.

Our activity for the meeting was making Mother's Day gifts. We made cards and arranged plants in a personally decorated container.

All the people within the Corpus Christi area were invited to greet the new deacon at the reception, and the large gathering was asked for continued prayers for Randy as he prepares for his ordination to priesthood in December 1985.

Rev. (Mr.) Randy Majek is the son of Frank and Margaret Majek of 4414 Hollywood, Corpus Christi, Texas. He also has a brother, Ron. The entire family holds membership at the SPJST Lodge No. 79 in Corpus Christi, where Randy used to be very active in the Youth Club.

Expression Of Sympathy 9441111111111111111111 Anthony Kresta, his twin brothe, who placed No. 11 in the class of 224 with an average of 95.28, also achieved the high honor scholarship, a tuition to Wharton County Junior College. In addition to his high honor, Anthony also was awarded the G.R. Hawes Memorial $250 scholarship, and the Charles Hermansen Memorial $250 scholarship.

The El Campo High School graduates, are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Albert Kresta Jr. of Talton, who are all SPJST members of Lodge No. 30, where both are very active in the Taiton Youth Club. The twin brothers are also active in CYO and have served as altar boys from an early age in the St. John's Catholic Church in Taiton.

Memoriam Emil V. Krejci Rites Held May 17, 1985

Relatives and friends were shocked and saddened when they learned of the sudden. death of Emil V. Krejci, lifelong resident of the Moulton, Texas area. He was found dead at his home Monday morning, May 13, by his daughter, Leonitta Culak, who lived with him. He was pronounced dead by the local Justice of the Peace George Mayer. Death was attributed to an apparent heart attack.

Brother Krejci was one of 12 children born to Frank and Margaret Pech Krejci 11 October 1899. He grew up in this locality and attended school at Evergreen and Moulton. October 30, 1922, he was married to the former Julia Ermis in the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Moulton by the Rev. Father Joseph Kopp.

Following their marriage, the young couple settled in the Sulphur Park community where they farmed for livelihood; then, in the early 1930s, they moved to the Dickson community where they continued farming and during which time Mr. Krejci served as a school board trustee for many years.

In 1939, the family moved to the city of Moulton. For many years he was employed by the Fehrenkamp Lumber Company in Moulton. In 1948, he was one of the crew members constructing the St. Joseph Rectory. In 1950 and 1951, he drove the school bus for St. Joseph Catholic School; then, for the next 16 years he drove the school bus for the local public school. He retired from the Teachers Retirement System of Texas as a local school bus driver in 1968.

Brother Krejci was a music lover, and he will be remembered as manager of "The Lone Star Brass Band" for many years. The band was popular at picnics and at parades. He will also be remembered as a baseball umpire in Moulton and surrounding towns and communities during the 1950s and throughout the 1960s.

He was a local businessman, operating Emil's Place on Front Street for 20 years.

He was a member of the Moulton SPJST Lodge No. 184. He also served as president for many years.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m.

Friday, May 17, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Moulton with Monsignor Robert E. Schmidt of Moulton, and Monsignor John Matocha of San Antonio (a longtime close friend of the Krejci family), concelebrating the Mass. Interment was in the City Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Henry Malinek, Willie Ed. Maresh, Lee Schoenfeld, Fred Sembera, Claude (Buck) Sherry and Bill Schvvenke.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Julia Krejci of Oak Manor Nursing Center in Flatonia; one son, Emil Archie Krejci of San Diego, California; two daughters, Leonitta Culak of Moulton and Gladys Sembera of Houston; nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Julie Batey of Bridge City and Mrs. Ed. Maresh of Moulton.

Besides his parents, Brother Krejci was preceded in death by a son, Kenward Lee who died at the age of two years in 1939; a son - in - law, Johnnie J. Culak who was killed in action in World War II in 1944; four sisters, Mrs. Joe (Millie) Krejci, Mrs. John (Elizabeth) Beran, Mrs. Albert (Bessie) Krejci and Mary Krejci; three brothers, Frank Krejci of Corpus Christi, Charlie Krejci of Shiner, Julius Krejci of Moulton; and two sisters, Bozenka and Sidonia, who died in infancy.

Brother Chaloupka was a member of John Knox Presbyterian Church, also of SPJST Lodge No. 92 of which he was an active member for more than 50 years. He was born in Bell County and moved to Fort Worth in 1918. He was employed by Swift & Co. for 34 years as a meat grader.

Brother Chaloupka is survived by his wife, Justine Chaloupka of Fort Worth; daughter and son - in - law, Norma and Bill McLendon of Hurst; grandson, Steven McLendon of Hurst; brother, Joe Chaloupka; several nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 2 p.m.

Tuesday, May 21 at Mount Olivet Chapel, with Dr. Louis Shambeck officiating. Pallbearers were George Cook, Wade Miller, Albert Kubala, W.H. McMillen, M.G. McLendon and Earl Troxell. Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements were

Funeral services were conducted the following day at St. Philip's Catholic Church with Rev. Benton Thurmond officiating. Interment was in the Holy Cross Memorial Park under the direction of Triska Funeral Home.

Sister Olejnik was born in Cyclone, the daughter of Joseph and Mary Lunda Pitrucha, early settlers of the county. She married Henry Olejnik in Granger. He preceded her in death February 11, 1958. She lived in the Bell County area all her life and was a member of the Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include two sons, Henry E. Olejnik of The Grove and Johnny E. Olejnik of Moody; three daughters, Evelyn F. Burger of Temple, Ethel M. Martinez of Sterling, Virginia and Peggy J. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. May 23 in Bellwood Memorial Park with the Rev. P.A. Samford officiating. Sheffield Funeral Home of Temple was in charge of the arrangements.

She is survived by her mother, Rae Noak; father, Wilbert Noak; brother, Darren Noak. She is also survived by her grandparents, aunts, uncles and numerous cousins.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 29, 1985 at Our Savior Lutheran Church with Pastor Laurence White officiating. Interment was in Woodlawn Garden of Memories.

(United Press International) Prague, Czechoslovakia -- Team Canada sensationally knocked out the Soviet Union and Czechoslovakia ended the United States' medal hopes

Wednesday, June 5, 1985—VESTNIK/9 in a night of high drama at the World Ice Hockey Championships.

Team Canada upset the USSR 3 to 1 for Canada's first victory against the Soviets since 1961. Mario Lemieux, who plays for Pittsburgh of the National Hockey League, scored two goals for Canada.

Czechoslovakia, which crushed the United States 11 to 2 earlier Wednesday, will play the Canadians for the gold medal Friday.

After two rounds of the championship series, Canada and Czechoslovakia both have four points, and the U.S. and the Soviet Union are both pointless.

In the Czech - U.S. contest, Vladimir Ruzicka and Jiri Lala each scored a hat trick.

States and Sweden are only available for that tournament.

With both teams tied at four points going into the gold medal game, Canada needed a victory because the Czechs had a far better goal difference.

Canada tied the score twice in the first two periods, but never led. Sejba, a 22 - year - old left wing, had scored one goal in eight games going into the championship game.

We have played against many Canadian teams with more illustrious names, but this team was the toughest we've played, said Czech Coach Ludek Bukac, whose team tied Canada 4 to 4 in the preliminary round. This was an extremely tough tournament.

Czechs Beat Canada 5 3 For Gold Prague, Czechoslovakia (AP) Jiri Sejba scored three goals Friday, leading Czechoslovakia to a 5 to 3 victory over Canada and its first world hockey championship since 1977.

The Soviet Union, the world champion from 1978 - 1984, beat the United States 10 to 3 to win the bronze medal.

Tom Fergus, Gary Suter and Anthony Granato scored for the Americans, who trailed 7 to 0 after .wo periods.

The Americans ended the tournament with consecutive losses after a strong preliminary round in which they beat Czechoslovakia and Canada. All the teams started from scratch in the medal round.

The Soviets whipped the United States 11 to 1 in the preliminary round opener.

The medal game featured a bench clearing brawl midway through the third period. Tim Thomas of the United States and Irek Gimaev of the Soviet Union were ejected, and four other players --- two from each team -were penalized.

The brawl began with the Soviets leading 10 to 2, when Soviet captain Viacheslav Fetisov skated behind the' U.S. net and slammed his right fist into the face of defense- man James Johnson.

Johnson was cut and, while blood dripped onto the ice, his teammates circled Fetisov. When Fetisov decked another American player, the benches emptied and the fighting started.

When Gimaev and Thomas fought, the Soviet player ripped the U.S. flag off the American's sweater.

The capacity crowd of 14,000 was adamantly pro - American and chanted, "USA, USA" during the fighting.

When everything had settled down, Lind assessed Gimaev and Thomas match penalties and sent Fetisov and forward Vladimir Krutov, U.S. captain Moe Mantha and Corey Millen to the penalty box.

While the penalties were being meted out, Soviet Coach Viktor Tiknonov engaged in a shouting match with U.S. delegation chided Tikhonov by displaying three fingers, representing the heavily favored Soviets' finish in the tournament.

When Granato scored with three minutes left to make it 10 to 3, the crowd erupted in cheers.

They whistled in derision as the Soviet anthem was played.

Canada, going for its first gold since 1961, won the silver medal with a different team that captured the Canada Cup last September. The best players from Canada, the United

The most marked example of the above, according to my opinion, happened in 1978 at the world ice hockey championship in Prague. The Czechs had finished the eight-nation competition at the top of the standings, with a perfect 9-0 won-lost record. Russia was second, at 8-1. (Its only defeat during round-robin play was a 6-4 loss to the Czechs). In the championship showdown Russia defeated Czechoslovakia 3-1. Because both, Czech and Russian teams, closed with identical 9-1 records, Russia was awarded the title on the margin of total goals scored vs. total goals allowed.

Russians scored 61 goals during the competition, including the championship game, and yielded 26, for a difference of 35. Czechs had scored a total of 54 goals and gave up 21, a difference of 33. Russia therefore won the world crown by a two-goal margin over Czechoslovakia.

The high quality of Czech ice hockey, well-known all over the world, was amply demonstratedin the Cup Canada games and Czech and Slovak

One of the very first players from Czechoslovakia in NHL was Jaroslav Jiffk, who played a few games in the 1969-70 season for the St. Louis Blues.

It is natural to mention at this time also the following Czech-Canadian players (born in Canada) playing presently in the NHL. Steve Boiek plays for the Calgary Flames, Gord Kluzak is with the Boston Bruins, Steve Ludvfk is with the. Chicago Black Hawks and Ed Hospodaf plays for the Philadelphia Flyers. To mention at least a few of the now retired Czech or Slovak origin NHL players, one cannot forget John Holota of the Detroit Red Wings, Elmer "Moose" Vasko, the giant defenseman of the Chicago Black Hawks and the one and only, great Stan Mikita of Chicago, who came to Canada at the age of 9 from Czechoslovakia after WWII. The former star forward of the NY Rangers Walter Tkaczuk of Czech origin was born in Germany; the captain of the US Olympic hockey team in Sarajevo, Yugoslavia in 1984 was Phil Verchota of Minnesota, a Czech-American, proud of his Czech roots. Verchota was also a forward on' the sensational US Olympic team of 1980 at Lake Placid in Northeastern New York State. Je to v dobe vrcholiciho zapasu o politick charakter nave vznikleho eeskoslovenskeho statu. A Longenova scena se pine stavi na stranu revolueniho proletariatu. Zde vznika slavna inscenace "Tonky Sibenice" Egona Erwina Kische, tady se poprve dostava na jevi gte Hagkilv "DobrY .vojak Svejk". Prvni avantgardni divadlo v Cechach zahajilo tak slavnou eru eeskeho divadelnictvi. StY1 Longenovjrch inscenaci je veden snahou o aktualnost, kontakt hledike s jevigte'm, moderni expresivni herectvi a akcentovani komiky.

V roce 1922 se Longenovi divadelni sen rozpljTva - zda se, le ve znovu se konstituujici burloazni spoleenosti nevi pro divadlo jeho typu mist°. Jests nekolikrat se Longen pokusi vzboufit, ale pak zakotvi v Divadle Vlasty Buriana. Je to paradoxne doba nejvetgich Longenovjrch spoleeenskYch i finanenich rispechri - stava se intelektualnim spolutvrircem obrovskeho rispechu "krale eeskjich komikri" Vlasty Buriana, pfge pro nej fraky a sam je re'liruje. Pozdeji se stava vyhledavanjnn filmovym scenaristou i hercem. Navazuje tak na einnost, kterou rozvijel u2 pied 1. svetovou valkou, na natdeeni prvnich eeskjich filmovYch grotesek. Ze vzpominek na dobu, kdy bojovat proti megtakrim bylo hlavnim diem jeho iivota, vznika mj. jeho drildita kniha o Jaroslavu Hakovi.

24. dubna 1936, ve svYch jednapadesati letech, Emil Artur Longen umird. Odchazi v nem jedna z nejzajimavej g ich postav eeskeho kulturniho iivota prvni tietiny 20. stoleti. Osobnost, ktera mela inspirujici vliv v ruznYch oblastech umeni. Clovek, jeho umeni ye svYch vrcholnYch projevech pomahalo spoleeenskernu pokroku.
