Your editor received a very nice Christmas greeting card and personal note from Mr. Al Grebnick from Schuyler, Neb. He thanked us for the publicity the SPJST Vestnik had given his band and requested that we extend his best wishes for a Happy Health Christmas and New Year to all his friends who read the Vestnik. Thanks, Al. *** December 9th was the traditional scene of family members and guests at Lodge 35 in Elk, a small hilly community east of Waco. The lodge takes pride in its affairs, the members support their elected officers, and every year the members plan some type of social and entertainment.

Prior to the meeting and program, District III Director Sid Pokladnik installed the lodge officers and Board of Trustees.

This year the youth club, under the direction of Sister Richard Burney, presented a live manger scene which involved many participants. In addition, in their program, they presented comical skits which tell the story (some pictures are in this issue.) Everyone also had the admiration for dear Santa after he arrived at the lodge.

Young and old members gathered

around to embrace him and express their wishes, and were treated to bags of assorted goodies.

Then there was a delectable variety of food waiting for everyone to enjoy, which truly was a royal treat. The hostesses and other responsible individuals contributed so much fraternal touch to compliment the atmosphere.

The guests thoroughly enjoyed the cordial hospitality which left time to fraternize as at any other occasion. Those who were among the guests included SL Vice President Bernie Gebala, District III Director Sid Pokladnik, Editor Rudy Sefcik and SFM Silas Smith with their spouses. *** This is the last Vestnik issue of 1984, the last number of a periodical paper which belongs to its SPJST members, the Home Office as much as to the editor and publisher. Fifty times we have met on the pages of the English and Czech sections.

On our part we endeavored to show you the highlights of the Society's operation and interest, local lodges' activities, numerous features, death notices, plus items of interest to acquaint our members/ readers of the SPJST with its respective achievements. We tried not to neglect anyone pertaining to promoting the growth of our Society and the Czech culture from many parts of the state to familiarize the general public who may not know of so many Czech people living in Texas. It also was our intention to arouse interest in the life, work and achievements of your ancestors.

In 1984 we received a vast number of letters from you. There was room for just a certain amount each week in the Vestnik until the letters or whatever it pertained to were depleted. However, your kind and cordial words were invariably a great encouragement to us and we should like to thank you for them once again.

For 1985 we hope you will continue submitting letters from your lodges and other items of interest about your members and families. Please instruct your new reporters and/or correspondents to submit all letters to the Vestnik Editor, P.O. Box 85, West, TX 76691 before Thursday noon of each week; sending letters for the Vestnik to Temple, Tx, will only delay your correspondence.

Now that the year 1984 is drawing to a close we would like to express our appreciation for your attention and to extend to you our sincere wishes of happiness and joy in the new year.

You must have both of these prerequisites to be eligible. All business must be issued prior to Dec. 31, 1984.

TO: ALL SPJST MEMBERS SUBJECT: DELETION OF CERTAIN SPJST PLANS OF INSURANCE AND OTHER INFORMATION 1. Effective immediately, SPJST will no longer offer for sale the following plans of insurance: JE-Endowment at Age 18 N-10 Year Endowment F-15 Year Endowment G-20 Year Endowment H-Continuous Premium Endowment at Age 65 1-20 Year Payment Endowment at Age 60 M-Retirement at Age 65 SPE-20 Year Single Payment Endowment SPL-Single Premium Life D-15 Payment Life E-10 Payment Life These plans will be withdrawn because they will not meet the definition of a Life Insurance Contract as defined in the new 1984 Tax Act. Basically, this definition requires that the investment element in a life insurance certificate be subordinate to the death benefit element as established through elaborate formulas.

If these plans were allowed to be sold after 1-1-85, the Cash Value increase attributable to interest income would be currently taxed as ordinary income to the certificate owner.

The following plans of insurance cannot be offered after age indicated basically for the same reason as above: W-Life Paid-up at Age 85-cannot be issued after Age 65 K-Life Paid-up at Age 65-cannot be issued after Age 45

3.

Although the definition does not affect any certificates issued prior to 1-1-85, the plans in Paragraph 1 are withdrawn from further offering effective immediately.

4.

The SPJST Annuity Program is currently paying 12% interest. This rate is guaranteed up thru January 31, 1985. There is a possibility the 12% rate will change (higher or lower). I can assure you that we will attempt to keep the rate as competitive as possible at all times.

The changes above are dictated by the 1984 Tax Act. The changes have been enacted because it is our responsibility to do what is in the best interest of our members. Thank you for your cooperation and understanding.

Czech Credit Courses At Temple Junior College Registration for spring semester Czech language courses at Temple Junior College will be from 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on January 3, 4, 7, and 8.

Registration during the first two days will be on a drop-in basis while registration on the last two days will be on an alphabetical basis, according to the registrant's last name.

Students who were not enrolled at TJC in the fall semester are encouraged to obtain and submit a new application prior to registration. This may be done by mail but the actual registration must be in person.

The Czech courses being offered during the spring semester are Czech 1722. Beginners Czech II and Czech 2623. Intermediate Czech II. James W. Mendl, Jr., of Austin is scheduled to teach the classes. The textbook will be CZECH FOR ENGLISH SPEAKING STUDENTS

by Sara, Sarova, and Bytel.

The classes will meet on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:50 o'clock in Room 304 of the Newton Science Building. The first class meeting will be on January 15, but registration should be completed by January 8 to avoid payment of the late registration fee.

District VI Sets Meeting Date The District VI Spring meeting will be held Sunday, March 24, 1985 in Moravia Parish Hall with Lodge 23, Moravia as host.

Lodge 4 December Meeting Dear Members: Our lodge met Sunday. December 9, 1984 at the Grant Building in Hallettsville with lodge President Frank Zahransky presiding. The Pledge to the flag was recited.

Corresponding Secretary Erwin Holy read the minutes of the November meeting which were approved. Correspondence followed.

Treasurer Helen Zahransky and Financial Secretary Hilmer Galetka reported on their duties of lodge business. Following other lodge business, refund checks were given out and the meeting was adjourned.

Gaynelle Chudej, co-youth leader and the Youth Club asked the members to join them in singing Christmas carols, also Gary Chudej read a Christmas poem. Bags of fruit and candy were given to the Youth Club and Lodge Officers with each lodge member receiving an apple. A candy guessing game was won by Vicky Zak. We thank the Youth Club for sponsoring these activities.

Games were played and enjoyed. refreshments and lunch were served.

Door prize winners were Otto Holy, adult; and Janelle Chudej. youth.

Our next meeting will be at 2 p.m.

Sunday. January 13 at the Grant Building.

Buckholts Members Enjoy Fellowship Dear Members: President Ann Balusek opened the December meeting of Lodge 15 by leading our members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Sister Balusek also welcomed the members and thirteen guests to our Christmas Party; namely, Thomas Harwell, Frank Janicek, Mrs. John Chudej, Willie and Adeline Kohutek, Lilly Zajicek, Ronnie and Irene Galler, Dan Balusek, Thelma McGraw, Louis Groppell, Shannon McGraw and Eugene Marak. We were very happy to see you all. please come again.

All committees' and officers' reports were accepted as read.

Secretary Charlsie Svetlik read Christmas cards from Willie and Adeline Kohutek and the Supreme Lodge.

We have one new member Kyle Robert Plachy, little son of Robert and Vickie Plachy. We welcome you to the club.

Congratulations to Sister Martha and Brother David Hertenberger on the birth of a new daughter horn November 26, 1984, named Selenia Beth. A lot of happiness to all of you.

"Happy Birthday" was wished to Dean Hillman, John Hillman, and Mr. and Mrs. John Chudej.

"Happy Anniversary" to Thomas and June Harwell on their 27th.

Afterwards President Balusek closed the meeting and we all enjoyed a delicious turkey supper and games were then played. A very good night of fellowship and fun was held.

The next meeting will be at 7 p.m.

Important News From Ellinger Lodge 51 Dear Members: "SURPRISED", not yet perhaps, but let us continue reading and see what effects we might feel when we finish.

Those of us who attended the annual meeting December 12th had our "surprise" when we tried to count the members present; using our fingers, we needed only one hand for the counting. That's what we call a "surprise," after the three notices in the Vestnik, urging and stressing the need of your participation. We have about 75 or 80 members who attend our lodge meetings promptly once every two years, and that is the short meeting we hold during the bi-annual picnics.

The lodge picnic for 1985, was thoroughly discussed at the December 12th meeting, and it was unanimously decided to cancel the 1985 picnic as well as all forthcoming picnics. "SURPRISED?" this decision was reached not due to financial reason, but due to complete lack of interest of the membership.

There still remains some hope that we can have the picnic in 1985, but this is entirely up to you members. You are asked to attend our next meeting and vote whether or not you are in favor of the cancellation. You must he present at our spring meeting which will be held at the Ellinger Fire Department Building March 17th, 1985. This will he the third Sunday in March, and the meeting will be called to order at 10 a.m. Keep this date in mind and tie a string around your finger so you will be reminded. (Don't remove the string until after the March meeting.)

There are too many things that needed to be discussed regarding the picnic. You were informed about the meeting and the discussions we were faced with, but since the attendance indicated that there was no interest among the members, we think that the best action is to cancel the picnic.

Now, are you SURPRISED? There is no change in your officers for the coming year. Your president is Ludwig F. Kocian, vice president is R. F. Hruska; and the SecretaryTreasurer-Financial Secretary is yours truly D. A. Juren.

On the Finance Committee we reappointed Brothers Ed A. Tobias and Gus L. Hruska.

I hope to see at least one half of the members of this lodge at the March meeting; that should he close to 100!

88 Annual Meeting Held

Lodge

December 9th, the membership of -Lodge 88 held their annual meeting, following the December monthly meeting which began at 10:00 a.m.

Present for the morning session were 149 members, and, by afternoon, 200 members were present to express their voice by voting for the officers, Rules & Regulations changes, and other affairs of the lodge.

A delicious dinner was served by the Board of Trustees.

The officers and committee chairmen reported on the activities performed during the year. We heard Sister Helen Hegwood sing a song during the Memorial Service for our deceased members.

She was accompanied by Sister Naomi Spencer. These two ladies certainly can provide a beautiful and moving rendition to create the mood desired for an occasion.

A proposed addition to our building is being investigated by the Board of Trustees. After more considerations by our Board, it may be presented to the membership for vote at future meetings. We were shown some slides with explanations by the architect, Mr. Tom Golden.

Lodge 133 held their regular meeting and Christmas Party December 16 at 1505 S. Gevers Street in San Antonio.

Prior to the meeting the members enjoyed a delicious Christmas dinner with all the trimmings; the dinner was also complimented with various assorted pastries that were out of this world. We wish to thank = )/It

After the meal everyone settled down to begin their meeting. President Emil Matula opened the meeting by leading the members in the Pledge of Allegiance, also a moment of silence was observed for our departed members, especially Brother Henry Harbort who departed us recently.

The minutes were read and accepted, also the treasurer's report was given and accepted.

Roll call of officers revealed that all officers were present.

Reports from the Social Committee and Entertainment Committee were very complete and encouraging.

Sister Marcella Kleprlik, who is in charge of all the anniversaries, presented a beautiful corsage to Sister Jane Hurta and a boutonniere to Brother Otto Hurta who were celebrating their 45th wedding anniversary.

It was reported that Sister Dorothy Valka was on the sick list and we all wish her a speedy recovery.

President Matula appointed the Application Committee to have three applicants screened. The committee recommended to accept the following new members, Brother John Dale Havelka, Sister Leeann Havelka and daughter, Adrienne Havelka. We extend to them a hearty welcome to our lodge.

The newly-elected officers for 1985 are: President-Anthony Trilicek Vice President-William Mares Secretary-Dominic Netek Treasurer-Cathy Pavelka Uribbe Flag Bearer Sister Viola Fajkus was appointed by the president.

Past President Emil Matula, who served as president for nine years, then vacated his position to the new president.

Our new President Anthony Tricilek appointed all the committees for 1985.

Sister Viola Mazac, who served the lodge as treasurer for 22 years, thanked everyone for their cooperation and also said she will be available to help the new treasurer anytime.

At this time Secretary Netek reported the members had something to give to the outgoing officers; Vice President William Mares presented Sister Viola Mazac a money purse attached with a calculator, and Brother Netek presented Brother Matula a carrying bag for two thermos bottles and a sandwich carrier.

Brother Mattila and his wife, Evelyn, are going on a very extensive trip to Europe for three months. They will visit their son and daughter-in-law in Germany; Emil Jr. is a captain in the Army. Our members wished them a safe and interesting journey.

We were honored to have SL President Howard Leshikar install our new officers. The installation was very interesting and President Leshikar also asked the members to rise and take the oath of supporting our lodge and our new officers.

On behalf of the members of Lodge 133, we wish to extend our greetings to all the members throughout the State of Texas, for a happy, healthy New Year! Let us not forget and be thankful for the past year, be thankful that we are still here and appreciate every day of our life.

Dear Readers: Lodge 174 held their quarterly meeting December 3, 1984. We had the reading of the minutes and treasurer's report. We expect three new members.

For old business we discussed the changes in the rate books and checked to see if we all had pulled out the correct pages.

Under new business we discussed a coordinator for the charity project.

Zephyr Marek was appointed for the job; she stated that right now the Christmas Roundup needs help. It was decided to give them $20.

The election of officers was held with the following elected: President-Daniel Marek Vice President-Lambert Skubal Secretary-Florian Skubal Fin. Sec.-Zephyr Marek The treasurer brought up the fact that the lodge's adding machine was very old and was not in working order. A motion was made by Paul Skubal to buy a new one, it was seconded by Carol Marek. Motion passed and carried.

Our annual dinner and meeting of Lodge 160 of San Angelo was held at 12 noon December 9, 1984 in the St. Ambrose Hall, Wall, Texas.

There were approximately 200 members present for the barbecue beef/sausage meal on this beautiful sunny day.

We were fortunate to have our Supreme Lodge President Howard Leshikar, his wife and sons, as our guests.

President Leshikar spoke on the Child Abuse Program and brought us up-to-date on the Supreme Lodge progress.

then spoke on the insurance program, youth and scholarship programs.

Recipients of $500 SPJST Scholarships from our district were Sandra Hugghins, Letitia Schwartz and Richard Batla.

in a convalescent center getting over shingles and she also lost both legs (above her knees) due to cancer.

She would like to hear from some of her friends throughout the state.

The tickets for New Year's Eve dance are going real fast, so, if you want any tickets, you will have to get them at the lodge.

Those of you who didn't make the Christmas party and covered dish dinner really missed something. The food was delicious and the music was super by Donnie Wavra. There was so much food people had snacks throughout the dance. I would like to see more of this type of activity.

Lodge 177 Makes Numerous Donations To Charities Season Greetings to the Supreme Lodge Officers, Editor . Rudy Sefcik and Maxine Sefcik, plus to all the lodges from all the members of Lodge 177, Academy. We wish all of you the merriest Christmas and a bright and happy New Year!

Our annual meeting was called to order at 7:31 p.m. December 12, 1984

by President Louis Driska. All officers were present.

President Driska took this time to thank the members for doing a beautiful job on decorating the hall and also the ladies and gentlemen who were on hand to help with the Christmas supper held December 7th; namely, Walter and Othean Jezek, Minnie and Cecil La Grange, Barbara Tuey, Libbie Bartek, Otis Beck and Social Members Bessie Moore and Helen Roasa. There are probably more and, if I failed to name you, your help was greatly appreciated.

Othean Jezek, kitchen chairman, was the ramrod of a job well done.

Othean, there was a good turnout for the supper; the turkey/dressing cooked by the KCs was delicious and the many dishes brought by the members was abundant and everyone had a good meal and much visiting was held.

Pat Tomastik read the minutes from the last meeting and they were

approved as read. Correspondence was also read about the Polka weekend in Corpus Christi, a thank you from the Girl Scouts for the $500 donation made from the Bingo Fund, Christmas cards from the Supreme Lodge, Willie and Adeline Kohutek and Horace Enterprises.

Financial Secretary Helen Bland reported one new member Manuel R. Alejandro was signed up and he was in attendance. Welcome and do come back!

Treasurer Josie Tomastik read the list of expenditures. All other chairmen reports were given with the exception of Larry Bland, Bingo chairman, who was absent.

Libbie Bartek sent get well cards to Becky Reed and Resa Tomastik.

There being no old business, the lodge went into new business. A motion was made to donate $50 to the March of Dimex.

Jerry Tomastik reported he was looking into the inflated taxes on our lodge and would have more to report on this later.

We then went right into the election of officers. Bruce Tomastik, Dorothy Lisenbe and Libbie Bartek were appointed on the Tabulating Committee.

Those elected were: President-Bill Hutka, 1st Vice President-Otis Beck, 2nd Vice President-Louis Driska, Recording Secretary-Pat Tomastik, Financial Secretary-Helen Bland, and Treasurer-Josie Tomastik were re-elected by acclamation. Youth Leader Ann Tomastik was also reelected by acclamation.

Board of Trustees elected were Louis Driska, Jerry Tomastik, Helen Bland, Edward Bartek and Bruce Tomastik.

Brother Bernie Gebala from the Supreme Lodge gave a short talk on keeping the beneficiaries up-to-date on insurance policies; he then installed the new officers and trustees.

The Gentres have been hired to play New Year's Eve for 1985.

President Driska mentioned coordinating the lodge activities and reporter, the trustees will decide this.

The Audit Committee will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday, December 19th.

Bernie Gebala also commended the lodge on our charitable donations. We members are indeed proud of our lodge for our numerous donations this past year. Every month for over a year $200 was designated to the Child Abuse Program from the Bingo Fund; from this fund Othean and Walter Jezek have seen that a dryer, edger, baby bed, cannister bowls, glasses and dishes have been provided for the First House and $200 was used to buy the children school supplies and $300 was given this month to purchase Christmas presents for the children. I've said it before and I'll say it again: "Thanks, Othean and Walter on your good work, we hope you can keep it up as long as you are able."

The members extend to Helen Bland our deepest sympathy over the loss of her mother. Our thoughts were with you.

Dear Members and Friends, The December 5th meeting was called to order by Vice-President Rosie Steinman with 27 members and guests Roberta Peters and Clem Oujesky present. We made welcome our new member Montie North.

The December birthday members were Janie Allen, Marie Tesar, Camille Boleer, Agnes Reznicek and Ann Sustala.

Our president, Marie Tesar, was

rushed to St. Joseph's Hospital the morning of our meeting with severe abdominal pains, but I am glad to report that, after an eight-day stay in the hospital, she is now at home and feeling much better. Also, on the same day, our regular guest, Benny Pavey had eye surgery. He is doing well and back to chauffering duties.

We would like to express our condolences to Louis Kubala and his family on the loss of our dear member Mary Kubala, who passed away November 27, 1984. We were looking forward to having Mary as a regular member since she had retired from working at the Northwest Hospital in May She will be missed by so many who knew her because she was such a lovely,lady who possessed many good traits that were admired.

The members' wishes were to keep the same officers for the year 1985. They are: President-Marie Tesar, Vice-President-Rosie Steinman, Secretary-Lydia Alholm, Treasurer-Marie Tesar and Reporter-Lydia Alholrn.

Many members and a host of friends from Ft. Worth plan to descend into Pilot Point, Texas Sunday, January 13, 1985 to dance to the music of Math Sladky and his band from Nebraska. There will be a Polka Mass at 3 p.m. and dancing from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the St. Thomas Parish Center. The admission is $5 per person, so Mr. Bill Heitzman, here we come!

My spouse, Roy, is visiting his brother in Kelso, Washington as I prepare this report. For the Christmas holidays, our son, Tony, his wife, Kathy and their three sons from Chicago will spend a week with us, and, hopefully, soak up some Texas sun.

Now that the new calendars are appearing, please mark Tuesday, January 29, 1985, The American Playhouse on Channel 13, the movie, "Noon Wine" filmed in Fredericksburg, Texas and starring 7-year-old Adam Faraizl as Arthur Thompson.

Adam is the son of Raymond and Carol Faraizl of Dallas, all members of SPJST No. 84. The grandparents, Mrs. George Nemec and Ed and Ella Mae Faraizl. Check the TV schedule for the time.

Ennis Sewing Circle The

The Ennis Sewing Circle met December 13, 1984 and thirty-eight members, three guests, plus some menfolks experienced a rough rainy morning to attend our Christmas event. What is more, without any warning, it was all due to tornadic

conditions. Don't you all feel lucky after hearing and seeing the damages it did to other folks, plus many were hurt. The McDonald Dairy Farm that was severely hit by a tornado in Trumball-Ferris along I45 is across from Sister Janie Marusak. Even though our meeting didn't start at 10 a.m. as planned due to the weather which probably kept some of us at home, it really didn't ruin our Christmas get-together.

Our guests were Vickie Kohn, Julia Harris and Agnes Dujka and we hope you come, again.

On the sick list is Mary Bouska and others sick were remembered by the Krouzek. Vlasta Parma and Antonia Novak are in nursing homes and each were sent a money gift.

Georgia Tupy who sent beautiful red poinsettias was unable to attend.

December birthdays were for Ludie Nesuda, Bettie Houdek, Bettie Marusak, Vojteska Janicek, Christine Zemanek and Agnes Dujka. A large birthday cake was presented to Sister Janicek by a family member.

Once again Krouzek members were made aware that all Krouzek membership dues are set up for January meeting, our beginning club year Members are asked to pay up for any remaining months for 1984 in January along with the 1985 dues. Dues will be acknowledged before the meeting by our treasurer.

Anne Zvolanek led us in singing Christmas carols (Czech and English). Thereafter we had our giftgiving followed by Christmas luncheon. Mary Polasek presented all officers with hand cream gifts.

How nice, Mary! The Krouzek gave each officer a large oval fruit bowl.

Thanks members! The Christmas quilt was won by Agnes Houdek.

That makes a nice reward for all the little rummage sales you had Sister Houdek."

Our next meeting is January 8, 1985 and I have 100 food cups for the Krouzek luncheon needs and I am donating these. So, you may bring them stews, soups, etc., if you like.

A total of 27 checks (20 last quarter) are going out in the aggregate amount of $579.00 ($365 last quarter). The average monthly attendance was 386.00 (243.33 last quarter). These are nice increases in all three areas.

We had our monthly meeting Sunday, December 9, 1984. We had a NEWS FROM BRYAN YC busy afternoon. After a short meeting, we practiced for our Dear Readers, Lodge 39 held its Christmas Christmas Program. Then we had a covered dish supper with the adults. Dinner and Dance on Saturday, Shannon Wilson and Amy December 15th. We had all of our youth members present and we put Schmidt won the door prizes.

We held our December meeting Sunday the 16th at 3:20 p.m.

Our meeting was called to order

by Chelli Fritz, treasurer, due to the absence of the president and vicepresident.

Susan Spacek led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

The roll was then called by Secretary Diane Marek.

There were 25 members and one visitor present.

The secretary's and treasurer's reports were read.

Going caroling was then discussed, but we decided not to go because of something going on every night.

We then sang "Happy Birthday" to Richard Spacek, Barry Gold, Andrea Blaha, and Jason Blaha.

Susan Spacek made the first motion to adjourn the meeting and seconded by Trudy Krenek. After the meeting, Santa Claus came to see us and we exchanged gifts.

Prior to our meeting, we all sang Christmas carols with the adult group.

Sister Kubala was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and SPJST Lodge 92.

Interment was in Mount Olivet Cemetery. Arrangements were by Mount Olivet Funeral Home, 2301 N. Sylvania Avenue.

GERSBACH, who passed away November 30, 1984 at the age of 46.

Services were held at the St. John Lutheran Church in Bartlett with the Rev. Clarence Rose officiating.

Burial was in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery.

He was a lifelong resident of Bartlett. He was a teacher and coach in the Jarrell School District for 11 years. He owned and operated the B and G Grain Co. and Schwertner Gin in Schwertner at the time of his death.

Survivors are his widow, Rosemary Gersbach; a son, Gary Gersbach of Bartlett; his mother, Esther Gersbach of Bartlett; two brothers, Charles Gersback of Bartlett and Gene Gersbach of Austin; a sister, Evelyn Schoemock of Temple; and two stepdaughters, Monica Martinka of Bartlett and Jackie Wolbrueck of College Station.

Mr. Kovar was born July 2, 1921, to Peter and Veronika (Bohacik) Kovar. Mr. Kovar passed away Saturday night, December 1, 1984, at the Gulf Coast Medical Center in Wharton, following a sudden illness.

Mr. Kovar was a World War II Veteran, a member of the American Legion Post No. 226, Holy Cross Catholic Church, and Lodge 28 SPJST. His occupation was farming and ranching.

Funeral services for Louis L. Kovar of East Bernard, were held Tuesday, December 4, 1984, at 10 a.m. at the Holy Cross Catholic Church in East Bernard. Burial with full military honors followed at the Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. Mr. Hankins, our band director of East Bernard High School, played the taps. Wake services were held Monday evening at 7 p.m. at Davis-

Keith D. Mikeska of Burlington and a Texas A&M University Junior has been selected to be a member of the Ross Volunteers, the ceremonial honor company of the university's Corps of Cadets. Mikeska is a physical education and math major and is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wilbert Mikeska.

He graduated from Rogers High School in 1981 and his oldest brother, Jeffrey, who is an electrician at Amos Electric in Temple, graduated from RHS in 1980. Keith has a sister named Pam who is a Senior at RHS. Keith received the SPJST scholarship for 1984-85. The Ross Volunteers is the oldest student organization in Texas.

Ve evrtek minuleho tydne jsme zase v nag easti Texasu za2ili hodne strachu kdy2 bez varovani se nam prihnalo tornado ktere zranilo pry 44 lidi a rozbilo 950 domovii. Boure zaeala rano a ukoneila a2 v deset hodin a2 nadelala hrozne 'Skody v Garland a Mesquite v Texasu. Mnozi lide byli jii prye v praci a ti nevedeli, Ze se neco tak hrozneho stalo a2 pak pozdeji se vratili dome tak teprve uvideli tu spoug , kterou tornado s velkymi vetry dpIne rozbilo jejich domovy a nic jim nezustalo jen strepy prken. Druzi zas byli jeSte doma a ti byli S - fastni, Ze nebyli zabiti na miste.

Nejhorg v to veci je, 2e mnozi nemeli bud'to Zadne pojiSteni anebo jen malo, a v dne gii drahote se za to nic moc nespravi. Jeho nastupcern (poslednim cisatem Rakousko-Uherska) se stab Karel I, prasynovec dtivej§iho cisate. Ac tento Habsburk i jeho Zeno. Zita, puvodne princezna Parmska, se snaZili peedevAim v roce 1918 rUznYm vesmestajnYm vyjednavanim zachranit pro HabsburskY rod co se dalo, tak na vAe bylo jiZ davno, ptedtim pozde.

Note 1. Types 'Zena and mesto drop their vowel endings and therefore we often find at their ends difficult groups of consonants. Since the last convention my family has had an increase in size so I feel an update would be in order. Our oldest daughter Bernadette graduated from Texas A&M with a degree in Industrial Engineering in August of 1983 and works for the government at Ft. Hood, Texas. She married Craig Hunter in September 1983 who at that time was an investigator for the Bell County Sheriff's Department. Our vdungest daughter Michele graduated from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor with a B.S. in Elementary Education and she teaches in the Temple ISD and plans to marry Mark Langford. who also graduated from Tckas A &M and is currently involved in banking and ranching in Lampasas.

REMINDER Dear Members: During the Christmas Season our thoughts naturally turn to the idea of sharing with friends and loved ones. To help you in that process of sharing, we would like to recommend something special for the people that you think "have everything". We would like to suggest that you think about making a gift contribution in their name to a worthy cause, the SPJST Scholarship Fund. We cannot think of a better gift when it comes at this special time of the year.

Those wishing to use this method to spread the idea of sharing should make their checks payable to the SPJST Scholarship Fund. Be sure to include the name and address of the individual(s) so we can send them a card advising them of the gift given in their name. Mail to: SPJST Scholarship Fund P.O.
