District III Sales Seminar

Sales Representatives in attendance Monday, August 13th at Wagon hy Restaurant in Ennis. Lodges represented were Lodge 25, Lodge 84. Lodge 135, and Lodge 183.

Sales Representatives in attendance Wednesday, August 15th at Sheraton Inn in Waco. Lodges represented were Lodge 6, Lodge 35, Lodge 66, and Lodge 84.

SFM McBride held dinner/seminars at Ennis, Fort Worth and Waco along with District 3 Director Sid Pokladnik for the active sales representatives in District 3.

Of the 81 producing sales representatives in District 3, 38 were in attendance at these seminars. We appreciate the efforts of these sales representatives and urge those that are not active to come join us aboard the SPJST

train. We are moving on to bigger and better things — "Don't be left behind."

It is the lodge and members duty to support the sales representatives of your lodge and to help them secure new members in order to keep your lodge alive and growing.

President Claude Flippin informed the lodge that Beer Permits went up on price from $40 to over $200, this permit is required so that we can sell, alcoholic beverages during our dances.

Sister Magdelene Iselt suggested that we donate an ice chest to the Firemen's Auction which will be held at their picnic, Labor Day Weekend. A motion was made and seconded that we donate the ice chest as some support from our lodge.

A big discussion was held on raising the cost of accessories around the hall. The person in charge of keeping all bathroom facilities, kitchen facilities, and door mats clean, has gone up from $80 to $100 a month. After much discussion the lodge decided to handle the matter on their own. Father Isidore Rozyski, Sister Balcar and Brother Balcar were nominated to go to Bryan and buy whatever items are needed to enable us to do this on our own.

Lodge 13 in Dime Box holds regular dances every weekend, except for the first weekend each month due to competition with the KC Hall of Rockdale, Texas. A suggestion was made that since all of the younger crowd follows the band that plays in Rockdale, Texas, a band should be hired to play for the older crowd every first weekend of the month. Brother Arnold John Tylacka will be in charge of hiring a band. A report will be given at our next monthly meeting.

The last order of business was the drawing of door prizes; the door prize winners were as follows: 1stBo (Richard) Spacek, 2nd-Stacey Spacek, 3rd-Lee Flippin.

This concludes my report of the August monthly meeting. Our next meeting will be held at 2 p.m.

Lodge 28, East Bernard Meeting Date Changed

Dear Members: The September meeting. WILL NOT take place on the first Sunday, the 2nd because of the "Labor Day" Holiday weekend. The meeting will be instead the second Sunday, the 9th, at 2:30 p.m. in the lodge hall. On the agenda, besides the usual reports, will be any item needed to be reported on and/or needing action to be taken on to sustain- lodge operations.

The "Gathering" will take- place after the lodge meeting.

The August meeting, which took place on the 5th, saw all reports accepted as given. It was called to the attention of the membership, present, that because of the "Labor Day" Holiday weekend, the September meeting will take place the second Sunday, the 9th.

Brother Albert Lupik and Brother Anton Kelner, Jr. took care of some tax problems with the "Tax Appraisal District".

Brother A. J. "Tony" Kelner brought in a picture frame, donated by his daughter and Lodge 28 member Sister "Patty", that fit the new picture of the 1984 Convention Delegates. With hope, through the effort of Brother "Tony", we will get this picture framed.

With no more pressing business, the meeting was over in less than an hour.

The social "Gathering", after the meeting was attended and enjoyed by everyone. Discussions covered everything from Politics to the weather. To the items donated by the lodge, Sisters Haverda, Kortis, Janik, Foytik, Luquette and Nezval added their donation to the table to make "Lord Baal", lord of the overeaters, very happy. Everyone stayed to clean up afterwards and took their time to leave.

Vice President Brother Dale Kessel called our meeting to order in the absence of Brother Morris Boutwell.

Brother Floyd Felfe led us in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Two new members, Lance Sadecky and Kristan Alexander, were accepted into our lodge.

Thirteen of our members attended the District II fall meeting in Round Rock last Sunday, reported

by Brother Leslie Gustafson.

Brother Curtis Young reported the youth had a good attendance at camp and at State YAD. We gave Brother Curtis and Sister Pat a hand and note of thanks for a job well done.

Get well wishes go to Charlie Haisler and Judy Mogonye. We wish you both a speedy recovery.

Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Dale Kessel on a baby girl.

September 8th, there will be a chicken barbecue to go available at the lodge hall beginning at 10:30 a.m.

35, Elk August Meeting Lodge

Our August 10th meeting was a short one with not much business.

The meeting was called to order by President Henry Breitkreutz at 7:30 p.m.

After Secretary Rosemarie Banik read the minutes, which were approved, she read thank you notes from Ronald and Donald Steinke and Thelma Hrncir.

Then all stood up and sang "Happy Birthday" to those having birthdays in August, namely, Richard Burney, Dorothy Banik, Ernest Clemons and Barbara Pavelka.

New members accepted were Elmer C. Smith, Cecelia A. Smith, Billie Marie Stone, Tracie A. Smith, David G. Smith and Bruce W. Richardson. We want to extend them a hand of welcome, and hope they enjoy being members of Lodge 35.

We want to wish good health to those on the ill list, namely, Dorothy Banik, Hermina Kubitza, Marguerite Rauschuber and Edwin Pavelka.

Temple Lodge Plans Meeting

Dear Members: SPJST Lodge 87, Temple held their regular lodge meeting Friday evening, July 13th at 7 p.m. with Vice President Frank Machalek presiding.

The meeting was called to order and Flag Bearer Jerry Valchar led the lodge in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance. The lodge members remained standing in silent tribute to deceased members.

New members accepted into our lodge are Susan M. Carroll and Valerie Nicole Fenner and Keith Patrick Fulton. A warm welcome is extended to these new members.

Various reports were given and old and new business was discussed.

Vlasta Coufal and Joe Plsek celebrated birthdays in July.

Dear Members: The SPJST Lodge 88 Czech Concert Orchestra, under the direction of Brother Rudy Dybala, and the SPJST Lodge 88 Choral Group, under the direction of Brother Tim Kostom, have been invited to present a program of Czech music and songs at the Louisiana World Exposition October 13th and 14th.

The first concert will be at approximately 5:00 p.m. Saturday, October 13th, and a second concert about noon, Sunday, October 14th.

This is an extraordinary opportunity to represent our Czech Cultural Heritage to a World audience, as well as to the Czech Community, the SPJST Fraternal Society, and Lodge 88.

These two groups are well known throughout the State for their fine performances. They have made appearances over a period of twelve years on Czech Day at the Texas State Fair, the Rosenberg Czech Fest, the Houston Main Street Festival, the SOKOL Convention in Corpus Christi and many, many more. The majority of the singers and musicians are members of Lodge 88 and other SPJST lodges, and 95% are of Czech origin. We might mention that some of the top sales representatives are in the Choral Group who make a considerable contribution to SPJST as a whole.

by Secretary Netek was given on the coming Song & Dance Festival, proceeds from which are to go to the Child Abuse Program. We invite the public to Comanche Park in San Antonio, and we hope to see many of our sisters and brothers from out of town. Further information will be published in the Vestnik, about this worthy project.

The lodge lost three members recently, Bro. Louis Mauri, Bro. Edward Lukasik, and Bro. Alvin Majek. Our sympathy to their families.

Dear Members, It is time to remind all members of the next regular monthly meeting.

This will be the last regular monthly meeting before the Grand Opening.

If you have some input as what you would like to do on that day you need to be there at the meeting.

After a lot of mistakes and setbacks everything is taking shape for a great day and future for Lodge 183. If I may take a quote from Theodore Roosevelt who said, "The only one who never makes mistakes is the one who never does anything."

The lodge wishes to extend a special invitation -to all Supreme Lodge officers and families, the editor and family, and to all SPJST members' families, friends, neighbors, and relatives to come see the new hall and enjoy the day with the lodge members who made it all possible.

The last dance was well-attended and everyone enjoyed the music.

There was a last minute switch because several of the Blue Grass and Old Style Country were out-oftown and Henry Rejcek Polka Band came and played for our dancing pleasure. The next regular dance will be September 15th from 9:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. music by Blue Grass and Old Style Country. Beer and setups will be available at the bar so BYOB. Lodge 142, Houston August Meeting Our monthly meeting was held August 12, 1984. Due to the fact that our President Mary Ann Kieschnick was committed to attend the State YAD in Temple on this same day, our meeting was called to order by Vice President Nelson Jochen at 2 p .m .

Brother Eugene Veselka was in the vice president's chair and assumed these duties.

The 41 members, who were present, stood to recite the Pledge of Allegiance to our flag.

Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Secretary Alice Jochen.

Brother Robert Kieschnick made a motion to accept the minutes as read, which was seconded by Brother Dennis Hermis.

Correspondence was also read by Secretary Alice Jochen. We had a letter from SL Vice President Bernard Gebala advising us of the selection of Dennis J. Veselka, a member from our lodge, to be a recipient of the SPJST Scholarship who is a very talented and deserving member and we are very proud of him. We also had a letter signed by our former SL President Nick Morris and Legal Advisor Sidney Kacir regarding the liability insurance held by the local lodges and the changes that are involved with the establishment-that serve alcoholic beverages. Do we have enough coverage?

Roll call of officers was held and showed the absence of our Financial Secretary Rosie Tumis and Treasurer Sidon Tumis who had gone to Nashville, Tennessee to help their son, Harvey, his wife, Rita, and children get acquainted with their new home in Nashville. We wish Harvey and Rita much happiness and success in their new home.

Brother Henry Hermis was also absent; he and his wife, Rita, had left our city to take a vacation in the country.

Two of our lodge members Pat and Bob Schleider have been traveling again; this time they toured some of our northern states and found Boston, Philadelphia, Gettysburg and Washington, D.C. very interesting, but left some of their money in Atlantic City. We welcome them back home.

We had a very small office force but we moved on and will have the

above mentioned officers' reports in our next meeting.

The youngest member present at this meeting for the $5 prize was Daniel Tumis (3-year-old), son of Johnny and Darlene Tumis. The capsule prize for $10 went unclaimed since Henry Joe Linhart was absent at this meeting; sorry he was not here but he may be lucky next month when the prize goes to $15; who knows who the lucky one will be!

Four door prizes went to Fred Paul, Lena Kunetka, Lillie Volka and Marvin Kaase. Afterwards lunch of sandwiches, chips, cookies and refreshments were served.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:30 p.m., prior to our lunch. Our next meeting will be at 2 p.m.

Notice To Members Of Lodges No. 172 & 173 SUBJECT: Merger of Lodges No. 172 & 173 Monday, August 13, 1984 at 7:30 p.m., officers and members of SPJST Lodges No. 172 Pasadena, Texas and 173, Galveston met at Lodge 172 and discussed merger of the two lodges. Louis Hanus, Dist. V director, was present to represent the Supreme Lodge SPJST. After due consideration, it was unanimously agreed that a merger of Lodges 172 and 173 would be mutually beneficial and that a membership vote on the proposition of merger should proceed without delay.

Dear Members and Friends, First, I want to thank all our friends who expressed kind thoughts and best wishes for a safe return home, after three weeks of vacationing.

Also, thanks to Mary Pavey for substituting for me as secretary for this organization.

The August 1st meeting was called to order by President Marie Tesar with 23 members and guests Mary Cecile Krivanek, Mary Dunlop, R. L. Alholm, Mary Ann Kozel, Nicola Johnson, Mary and Benny Pavey present.

New member made welcome was Margaret Crusott. Alene Kercho and Irene Zubb were welcomed after an absence of several meetings.

Happy Birthday was sung to Irene Zubb, Bunny Tesar, Martha Boenisch and Mary Perricone.

A beautiful quilt was made and donated by Mollie Walker, who is our oldest member at the age of 90 years. Chances will be sold and the quilt will be given to a lucky winner at the family night Thanksgiving dinner.

Carrie Milan and Jo Prochaska will be the hostesses for the Sept.

Since Roy and I were traveling and attending a WAVE convention, we missed seeing much of the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles on T.V. A feeling of esteem for our athletics has been expressed by the media in many ways, and many of us congratulate Jerry and Henrietta Milan; their son, Rome, and Emil Milan for having the honor of being a part of the Olympic games. In appreciation for their participation in the administrative end of the games, the blue carpet used on the rhythmic gymnastic floor competition, size 46 x 46 has already been delivered to the Sokol Hall in Ft. Worth.

Many of you Vestnik readers have repeatedly told me how much you enjoy reading about our travels; thus I will describe our most recent trip.

The purpose of the eastern vacation was to attend the 1984 National WAVE Convention in Wash., D.C., where I was stationed for three years, married there 38 years ago the month of August, and the first return there since 1946.

You can bet there have been many changes in the city of Wash., D.C., but the small Navy Chapel where we were married is still kept in Navy terms: shipshape. In fact, a wedding was to take place there the morning we visited the chapel and we were given the privilege of having our picture taken in front of the altar. A book listing all weddings that have been performed there over 40 years is now being compiled by the chaplain's section of the Navy.

We traveled through the Smoky Mountains of Tenn. and Virginia and our first visit was with a couple in Western Virginia whom we had not seen for 35 years. We had lived in the same apt. complex in Chicago where both our sons, R. L. and Tony were born.

Also, in Eastern Virginia we visited Stanley Mach and his wife.

Stanley was in the group that toured Austria, Germany and Czechoslovakia with us in 1982.

Traveling through these beautiful and picturesque states our visits were made in Delaware, Maryland

and New Jersey along the Atlantic Coast where Ex-Wave friends now reside.

About 1500 women of the Navy, past and present came to Wash., D.C. for the 42nd National Convention. It was wonderful to see several girls who I had not seen since my Navy discharge, many of whom I had corresponded with all these years. There was much reminiscing, picture taking and bringing up to date all the news since last seeing one another. Those of us who wore the Navy uniform fully recognize the contribution of Navy women to the service and to our country.

Departing Wash., D.C. we made a special effort to visit the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, N.Y., which was established in 1939 to honor the heroes, recall the games great moments, present a history of the sport through dramatic presentation of artifacts, photographs and memorabilias.

Niagara Falls, N.Y., the oldest tourist attraction in North America was also a thrilling experience. The water that flows over Niagara Falls comes from four of the five Great Lakes. It finally flows into the Atlantic Ocean after passing through a couple of bodies of water and is the largest producer of electric power in the free world.

We surprised a cousin, my mother's brother's daughter, who lives in Cleveland, Ohio, with a brief visit before arriving in Chicago for a week's visit with our son, Tony, wife, Kathy, and three grandsons.

We also visited with relatives from my mother's side of the family and talked by phone with friends, Georgia (Becan) Mihelich, and Rose and Joe Biceste, formerly of Ft. Worth. We also made a visit to the Sacred Heart Convent and visited with four of the Catholic Nuns who had taught at St. Thomas parochial school in Ft. Worth. Sisters, Mary Charlotte, Gertrude, Raphael and Martina send greetings to their Texas friends.

The Sears Tower in Chicago, the world's tallest building, which took three years to build is a great tourist attraction. The fully enclosed skydeck on the 103rd floor is 1,353 feet above ground. Two express elevators reach this altitude in less than one minute. There were no signs of any fright when we rode the elevators.

Enroute home we made no stops in St. Louis where we once lived and have many friends, but we felt that we should get home to give our son, R. L. a bit of relief from taking care of our place in Colleyville since he had already started coaching girls volleyball and attending in-service meetings in the Ft. Worth Public School system.

Vacations are fun, but there is no place like home.

Adell Vlk reported she sent a "Get Well" card to Frances Sparks and a "Sympathy" Card to Frances Konakovsky. Gifts were brought to Sisters Virginia Blatney, Frances Sparks and Frankie Curry.

Libbie Elsik visited with Anna Brown and took her a gift. Libbie also announced that Libby Slovak's husband is to have surgery.

Bessie Kalich mailed birthday cards to the following who celebrated July birthdays: Mildred Chervenka, Agnes Janecka, Rose Noska, Elus Vondracek, and Martha Vrla. August birthdays: Albina Hucek, Marilyn Fulbright and Ann Zvolanek.

Vlasta Jurcik reported on the success of the 4th of July picnic held at Sokol Ziska this year. She stated that announcements will be made earlier next year regarding the picnic.

Bessie Reames made a report on the Czech Cultural meeting. Vlasta Jurcik stated that if anyone wants to be on the program at the State Fair on Czech Day to let her know.

Ann Zvolanek also requested you let her know if you wish to participate in the Czech Costume Show.

Ann also reminded us to start thinking about our 50th Anniversary of Krouzek and come forth with suggestions as to how we can celebrate this special event.

Ann Zvolanek introduced guest Jonathan Reznik, who recently was crowned Duke of the Young Czech Texan Club. Dorothy Reznik thanked those sisters who supported her son.

Ann also thanked those who brought white elephant items this month. She thanked the Telephone Committee for doing a good job.

Josephine Kankrlik told us about a tour to Fairfield, Texas, sponsored by the Dallas Utilities Company. She will arrange a date for us to go on this tour.

Georgia Johnson and Mary Kubacak.

Donations for August were from: Josephine Kankrlik, Martha Malooly, Frances Konakovsky and Theresa Carper.

There were no hostesses this month as reported by Hostess Chairman Mary Sebestik. We all brought our sack lunch, however, Theresa Carper brought a cake for us to enjoy and Albina Hucek celebrated her birthday by sharing a lovely birthday cake with all of us.

News of our members: Bertha Malik enjoyed a sixteen-day tour in Alaska by cruise, bus, train and plane. She crossed the Arctic Circle to Katzebue and Nome.

Josephine Kankrlik joined the Halouzka family in Colorado for a nice visit. Helen Parma recently had surgery and we wish her a speedy recovery.

We sang "Al Lucka, Lucka," and "Happy Birthday" to all sisters celebrating August birthdays.

Everyone then enjoyed visiting while eating their sack lunch.

The District VI fall meeting will be held Sunday, October 14, 1984 in the Taiton Community Center at Taiton, Texas with Lodge 30 of Taiton as host.

YOUTH SECTION RE-CAP STATE YAD-1984 The Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center was the scene of the 1984 Arts and Crafts, Talent, Beseda and Royalty State Competition.

There were approximately 600 in attendance. We feel we had an excellent turnout. There was a distinct advantage in being able to close the crafts off in a room by themselves until after the judging was finished. The space set up for the cafeteria was nearly filled at lunch time.

The day started on time at 10 in the morning and continued until the 1984 King and Queen were selected, all the awards were presented, pictures were taken, and ended a short time after 7 p.m. The competition was very stiff and those who weren't awarded first place by the judges will have more experience and confidence next year and certainly we hope they will be victorious then.

There were a total of 168 craft entries; 11 scrapbook entries, 22 individual talent entries; 10 group talent entries; 5 Beseda circles; 6 king contestants and 6 queen contestants. All in all, it was a very busy day. I want to thank all the people that put forth so much effort.

As you know, Westfest is around the corner and we have been baking kolache, strudels and bread; we still need more help during Friday nights at the hall and some of us at home whenever we can. We also will need help at the Youth Booth, so please let me know. Don't forget additional help will be needed for the Westfest Parade float.

The Youth Club talked about going to Six Flags, but did not set the date.

Remember the Rest Home Birthday Party for September 5th and bring cakes.

If you have any clothes that you are not wearing, the St. Paul's United Church of Christ needs some for needy families, so bring them to the church or to me.

From the Youth Leaders COTTONWOOD YOUTH CLUB'S PAST/FUTURE ACTIVITIES Dear Readers: July 23rd Sisters Rose Uptmor, Peggy Dobecka and Willie Mae Schuetz attended District III youth camp at Val Verde and on the first night of camp, three of our youth members attended; namely, Kevin Dobecka, Tammi Dobecka and Keith Hykel, who all reported a good time.

August 1st the Youth Club donated two cakes and three jelly rolls for their Birthday Party.

Their Youth Club meeting was held August 10th following our mother lodge meeting, with a fair attendance. I hope we can start having all the youngsters at the meetings soon and bring a friend because they may want to join our club, too.

State YAD and Royalty were held at the Frank W. Mayborn Convention Center in Temple, August 12, 1984, and we had five families attending the program. Our Youth Club had four 2nd place winners in Craft, five out of ten top point winners, had Junior of the Year — Kevin Dobecka, Teenager of the Year — Darrell Uptmor and also had the $1,000 Scholarship Recipient Darrell Uptmor. I am very proud of you! The YAD and Royalty were well-attended by all districts, and I enjoyed working with all of the people involved during the activities.

Dear Members, Lodge 39 Youth Club had its monthly meeting August 5th. Plans for State YAD in Temple were discussed. We also decided once again to participate in the craft and bake sale at Post Oak Mall, October 13th.

The Youth Club will also have a swim party August 26th at the Annex Pool. Everyone should bring a covered dish.

DIME BOX LODGE 13 YC ELECTS NEW OFFICERS Dear Members, We had our monthly meeting Tuesday, August 7, 1984. We elected officers for 1984-85 year. Before and after;the meeting we enjoyed several activities which included a scavenger hunt for the 9 and under age group, a hayride for the 10 and above age group, and those who wished could watch a movie about the Ringling Brothers, Barnam and Bailey Circus.

The slumber party afterwards was enjoyed by all and we would like to thank Mrs. Nellene Spacek, Mrs. Marie Spitzenberger and Father Isidore Rozyski for making it all possible.

FIELD TRIP TO INGLESIDE August 16th and 17th were the dates of Warrenton Youth Club 179 field trip to Ingleside at the Bay and surrounding area. Leaving early Thursday morning we arrived at Ingleside to have a tour of the area before dinner. That afternoon we went to Aransas Pass; the ferry to Port Aransas for the tour of the University of Texas Museum and Marine Life Study. We saw films of the bay area featuring reptiles and mammals and different geological studies. For the afternoon we fished and swam at Mustang Island. After supper and a journey around Fisherman's Wharf we went to the Key's home and, of course, went fishing until early morning.

The next morning was our tour of Corpus Christi beachfront, stopping at one place for swimming and another for sea shells. Home was through Goliad, seeing the mission and finally the car wash in La Grange to get rid of Gulf salt and sand. It was a very enjoyable outing.

The door prizes were won by Brian Faust and Pat Schmidt. Jennifer Kubin presented a dance program for us.

We painted light switch covers for our craft activity.

Several of our youth went to Temple for State YAD, August 12th.

Jennifer Kubin, Grant Faust and Brian Faust won first place in crafts.

Shannon Wilson won second place in craft. Jennifer Kubin, Brian Faust and I won plaques for being in the top ten State with our points.

We all had a good time at Temple.

YOUTH PROJECT ON "CZECHOSLOVAKIA"

By Jean Dorotik (15) Rt. 3, Box 251, El Campo Lodge 30, Talton (District VI) "Czechoslovakia" The country of Czechoslovakia is located in the heart of central Europe. This country is the home of the Czechs and the Slovaks, two closely related groups of Slavic people. The two industrialized regions in western Czechoslovakia are Bohemia and Moravia. This is where the Czechs live. The Slovaks live in a more agricultural area in the east, Slovakia.

Czechoslovakia is covered by rugged mountains, rolling hills and fertile plains. Its area is about the same as the area of New York, but Czechoslovakia has only about three-fourths the people. The standard of living in this country is higher than most other people in Eastern Europe. More than half the people in Czechoslovakia live in the urban areas. More of them work in manufacturing industries than in any other economic activity. Natural resources, such as coal, have helped make Czechoslovakia an industrial nation. A variety of agricultural products are also produced by this country.

Czechoslovakia's population includes a total of about 14,654,000 people. Czechs include about 65 percent of the people; Slovaks include about 30 percent. The largest minority group in this country is the Hungarians. Other minorities are the Germans, Gypsies, Poles and the Ukranians.

In the 400s A.D., Slavic tribes settled in what is now Czechoslovakia. The Czechs and the Slovaks are descendants of these tribes. As time went by, the Czech culture was influenced by the Germans, most of whom lived in Bohemia and Moravia.

After the 800s, the Maygars or Hungarians ruled Slovakia. The Slovaks were influenced by these Magyars. Bohemia and Moravia became industrial centers during the 1800s, but Slovakia remained agricultural.

Prague' is the only city with more than a million people living in it.

Only three cities have populations of more than 250,000. In order of size, they are, Brno, Bratislava and Ostrava.

In 1918, Czechoslovakia gained independence. This is when the Czechs and the Slovaks united to form a single nation. Before that, Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia were part of Austria-Hungary.

Czechoslovakia became a Communist State in 1948. The country's economy and government

were reorganized by the Communist and were patterned after those of Russia. In 1968, to give the people more freedom, the Czechoslovak government began a reform program. The reform program was ended when troops from Russia and four other European Communist nations invaded Czechoslovakia.

Czechoslovakia is now a loyal member of the "Soviet bloc," a group of Communist nations led by Russia. These "Soviet bloc" countries provide Czechoslovakia with most of its imported goods, and they serve as markets for many of its exports.

A total of about eight percent of all Czechoslovaks belong to the Community Party. All of the important government positions are held by Party members. In order to establish programs and policies, Party regulations call for the congress to meet every five years.

Czechoslovakia has a Federal Assembly which is a two-house legislature. It consists of the House of Nations, and the House of People.

There are 150 members in the House of Nations — 75 from each of the two socialist republics. Elected from districts established on the basis of populations, the House of the People included 200 representatives. Fiveyear terms are served by members of either house. The President of Czechoslovakia is elected by the Federal Assembly, to a five-year term. He appoints the country's prime minister and Cabinet.

The Slovak Socialist Republic, and the Czech Socialist Republic each have a prime minister, Cabinet, and elected legislature. In certain areas, such as education, health, and transportation, the republics have limited self-governing authority.

Not including the two cities of Bratislava and Prague, which form separate political units, Czechoslovakia is divided into ten administrative regions, which are subdivided into districts. Each of the regions and districts, as well as the cities and town of Czechoslovakia, are governed by National committees.

Services for George Bohacik were April 2, from the Holy Cross Catholic Church in Frenstat, Texas.

Interment was in the Frenstat Catholic Cemetery with Father Isidor Rozycki officiating.

He was a member of the Snook Brethren Church and a member of SPJST Lodge No. 9 for 40 years.

A prayer service was held for Brother Junek Friday evening, May 11 at Strickland Funeral Chapel with Rev. Henry E. Beseda and Rev. Howard Adkinson officiating.

Funeral services were held in the Snook Brethren Church at 10:30 a.m.

Saturday, May 12. Reverend Beseda and Rev. Adkinson officiated. Burial followed in the Snook Cemetery.

Brother Junek was preceded in death by his parents and two infant brothers.

Survivors include his wife, Milady Junek of Snook; five sons and four daughters-in-law, John H. and Mary Junek, Rudolph C. and Lena Junek, James E. and Susan Junek, Thomas J. and Bernice Junek, all of Snook and Daniel W. Po ztizeni Zemskeho museu v °pave ponechalo si Gymnasialni museum pouze pfirodovedeckou linii, v g echny ostatni vedy byly umistneny v novem Zemskem museu. Za nemecke okupace (podzim 1938-kveten 1945) byla obe museu spojena v jeden Ustav pod jmenem "Reichsgaumuseum."

V tuto dobu se tu roz g• ilo luteranstvi a olomoutti biskupove se zde setkali roku 1569 a 1603 se znaenkm odporem. Ve zminenem roce 1613 udelil Matya'a Habsburskk Opayske kniietstvi pies odpor mora y ske i opa y ske Alechty Karlu z Lichteatejna a odloutiv toto azemi od Moravy, pfipojil je ke Slersku. Po praiske defenestraci v roce 1618 Opa y ske kniietstvi a cele Slersko se p • ipojilo k teskemu povstani; po Bile Hofe a po ateku Zimniho kraje Slerskkm azemim bylo tu mnohem

Podobna protihabsburska vzboufeni fady jinkch cisafskkch pluka se liaak neuskutetnila, jelikoi vedouci spiklenci ztratili rychlkm zesazenim Valdftejna odvahu vypovedet cisafi poslanost. Po odtr2eni severni tasti bkvaleho kniietstvi byl v Opave' pro zbyle slerske uzemi zrizen kralovskk Ufad a v roce 1849 bylo mesto Opava utineno hlavnim mestem tak zvaneho Rakouskeho Slerska. Ceske narodni uvedomeni se probudilo ze stalete dfirnoty v druhe polovine minuleho stoleti pfedev§im zasluhou rodilkch Opavanri, Antonina Va'alca a Vincenta Praska. Gymnasijni profesor Ant. Va'aek (1829-1880), tasto nazkvan buditel slerskeho lidu, zaloiil Opa y skk Besednik v roce 1860 a pozdeji byl Menem redakce Opa y skeho tkdeniku. Tu v Opave se narodil 15 zafi 1861 jeho syn Vladimir VaAek, basnickkm jmenem Petr Bezrut. V roce 1877 byla zde zalo2ena Matice opa y ska, k vydavani vlasteneckkch spisri a k zafizovani teskkch Akol. Peel tohoto astavu byla v Opave' otevfena v roce 1882 soukroma teslth obchodni §kola a v roce 1883 soukrome Ceske gymnasium. V roce 1919, po prvni svetove valce bylo vraceno k Morave Hlueinsko (menAl east Vratisla y skST m mirem odtr2eneho uzemi bkvaleho Opayskeho kniietstvi) a v roce 1928 byly pteneseny zemske ntady z Opavy do Brna.
