To the students who will be entering college or university: The necessity for every young man and young woman to obtain the highest possible education is becoming more and more apparent. The requirements of this present age are greater than ever before, and with each succeeding year, will become even greater. There are more trained men and women today than yesterday, and there will be more tomorrow than today.

The time has been when just a general knowledge was sufficient to carry one through life and give an opportunity for a fair measure of success in any pursuit or vocation.

However, the demand is for the individual with special knowledge, and not to be so prepared is to be greatly handicapped and to decrease the opportunity to accomplish much.

Therefore, my young friends, strive to obtain all the education and vocational equipment possible because you will need it! ***

Oftentimes I stop and study the meaning of American principles, especially when history reveals that the Italians (mostly Romans) performed good deeds for the world.

They brought religion, civilization, art, music, literature and laws, but when they became somewhat careless, the empire of Rome fell.

Let us hope that does not happen to our country and work to save America from further confusion if we all work together, have faith among ourselves, and trust each other.

This editor always believed that faith and freedom are just like a light in a dark room, if you and I are able to keep that light burning we must encourage faith, hope, charity in order to keep man close together.

Freedom gave man the willpower to work and build and to cultivate the work he has done. Freedom is a gift to man but often he loses it because he abuses it and becomes very careless and selfish.

Everyone shall remember that life is only what you make of it, and you should never give up hope. It is not where you are born or what you are, it is what you make of yourself that counts.

We should never neglect our duties of being good, loyal citizens and we should never rely on others to accomplish what we are aiming at.

We should always give a day's work whether or not we work for ourselves, in order to produce.

No individual should depend on others, but should learn to depend on oneself. No matter how little you may earn, you will, enjoy it. At no time should an individual feel that the government owes him a living; the government is sustained by the people. The only thing that a government should promise to its citizens is a good social and contructive legislation.

All of these years it has been my aim to contribute my share of work and to build for the growth and success of America.

Budvarka Orchestra coming to Texas direct from Czechoslovakia.

The orchestra from Ceske Budejovice in south Bohemia will make their first visit to the United States in mid-September.

Cerny eikan (Black Gypsy) waltz, Sumar Barta and Ave Marie are among the 600 compositions performed by this famous brass orchestra. Polkas, waltzes, folk songs and others as played by the famous Budvarka group have brought the house 'down' repeatedly at home and abroad. Traditional costumes are worn by the musicians while they perform.

We were advised their Texas schedule has been changed; they (the orchestra) will only perform at the West Fraternal Auditorium in West, with a 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. performance.

Insurance. By virtue of his signature he assumes the responsibility for the accuracy and veracity of that voluminous document, even though most of it is prepared by other officers and a small portion by the actuary. When correspondence from a State or Federal Agency is directed to the SPJST, it is invariably addressed to the president, who in turn, may seek an answer to the inquiry from his colleagues, but the point is that he is ultimately and finally responsible.

The entire Supreme Lodge is accountable and shares that responsibility. I do not know what prompted this proposed change. No explanation was given.

On Some Bylaw Proposals

When they asked, they were told that they would find out "in due time" by the chairman. In my opinion, and having researched and written the history of the SPJST over an intense study of many years, particularly the four years that it took to put the history together, I submit that this proposal would wrench the SPJST back into a chaosfilled and turbulent past. Their actions and deliberations and the confusion, misunderstanding, and turmoil that followed caused a virtual stalemate in operations and finally resulted in all of them being summoned to Austin and signing a joint statement that they would, after the 22nd day of September 1942, dispose of all matters relating to the welfare of the Slavonic Benevolent Order of the State of Texas and all other business matters by the entire Supreme Lodge. It was further agreed that all implied powers and duties, not specifically and expressly set out in our Constitution and Bylaws be decided by the entire Supreme Lodge consisting of thirteen members, by majority vote.— Signed in Austin by all the Executive Officers and Directors on the 22nd day of September 1942.

Brothers and sisters, please give careful consideration to a proposoal that represents a radical departure from past practices. Why is a system that has worked for almost 87 years that has brought us the tremendous growth and progress suddenly become subject to such a rnajir proposed change? All of you knoW that I have stated many times that I'm for change—we must change to accommodate the changing times, but not merely change for the sake of change. For every change there has got to be a reason and well thoughtout rationale, but these have not been stated. I have heard that this would be in accordance with "modern and streamlined business practices which take place in most corporations". Perhaps, but somebody is going to have to prove that such a change, would be for the good of the SPJST. Statistics of our Society's progress have been in the plus column for a long time now so we must be doing something right.

This past year, for example, we had a net gain in operations in excess of one million dollars, after refunds to members. I'm not sure how much study was made before making this proposal. I can't find anyone here who was asked their opinicfn or consulted on the matter. This appears to be change merely for the sake,of change. Why??

Why is the president's position being relegated to what apparently would be a largely ceremonial position without authority or without any major responsibility?

Put another way, why is the president's office being decimated and reduced to a largely ineffective figurehead position? Are we headed for an inactive presidency like we had until 1948? Is that what we want or need?

Anyone who is well versed in the history and progress of the SPJST knows that we have made changes —many changes down through the years to accommodate changing times and requirements.

We will continue to do so. Also, anyone who is familiar with the ups and

downs and "rough periods" of our existence knows the difficult period the Administration of the SPJST went through after the Taylor Convention and this proposal bears directly on that period. The two or three years subsequent to that convention are a chapter in themselves, but in the end, we came through that troublesome period a better and stronger Society. I pray that we • don't go back to the system that invited and provoked that troublesome era, although I have every respect for our2resent directors. But what aboa their successors? I know what I'm talking about and I can prov.it. Why shuck something that has worked so successfully for so many years?

4) The other proposal, and it certainly didn't come from me nor did it appear as a prior recommendation from anyone in the Vestnik, is the recommendation under Art. 33 under the duties of the Supreme Lodge as follows: "To define the duties of the State Youth Department and appoint a full time State Youth Director who will report directly to the Supreme Lodge".

I expounded on this matter in my pre-convention report. I gave the committee an advance copy of that portion of my pre-convention report.

It would seem Iogicaliand reasonable to have been consulted or asked about this, since the president has been Head of the Youth Department since the 1968 Convention (prior to that it was under the vice president).

I urge all of you to either read or reread my pre-convention report in the Vestnik of April 18th. It appears that first of all, this is an attempt to put that position on a par with the executive officers by "reporting directly to the Supreme Lodge".

Several years ago, it was decided that these mid-management individuals (State Field Managers included) in the Supreme Lodge would not be called into the Supreme Lodge meetings to give their reports, but rather, render their reports in writing through the officer in charge, and if there were any questions that had to be answered by these individuals, there was no hesitation in calling them in.

We have not had a State Youth Director since September 2, 1983, and I don't believe there is anyone who can legitimately claim that the functions of that department have suffered. On the contrary, the reports point to about the same level of activity (in some districts an increase) as they have for this period of the year in years past. Everyone who has ever been associated with the Youth Department knows that this activity has a "hill and valley" effect. Some years there is more, while in others there is less. No one seems to know the exact reasons why. It is probably a combination of several reasons, all of which have been around since we started the youth program in the early 50's, except that in this day and time there are more activities to occupy our youth than there were back then. Ask any local lodge youth leader. We have plenty of rules and regulations on the local lodge, district and state level. They have stood the test of time and you can't very well argue with success. There is no magic to making everything a success in youth activities, no more

4/VESTNIK—Wednesday, May 30, 1984 than there is any magic to making the lodge membership attend their local lodge meetings. The goals of the Youth Department have been defined and explained over and over. We go over them every time we have a training class. Everyone should be more or less familiar with them and since some of the duties of the DYCs have been re-examined and realigned, I see no reason to change course. If something has not gone 100% in the local lodge youth club it is certainly not because we currently do not employ a State Youth Director. Other avenues of possible remedy need to be looked at locally.

This is my reasoning and explanation on the proposal regarding the Youth Department.

We would now like to hear the same from the proponent(s) of this new proposal.

In another proposal under Art. 37 (h), the committee is proposing to do away with the phrase "With the approval of" the president, each Supreme Lodge officer has the right to employ employees . . . etc. They are proposing to substitute the words "After consulting with . . . " There is certainly a difference between "consulting with" and "getting approval of", but nobody in this position in his right mind would ever disapprove of an employee that another officer wants to hire after that officer has gone to the time, trouble and research of that person's qualifications. I have never questioned the selection of any employee recommended by an officer. This appears to be a play on words and another subtle attempt to dilute whatever authority the president has. Again, why?

I'm in favor of leaving all the articles pertaining to the President's OffiCe, the Supreme Lodge, and the Youth Department as they presently exist, with a few minor and insignificant changes.

They may not be perfect, but they are working and the latter has been updated to meet the needs of the youth in the decade of the 80's.

I am pleased that the Bylaw Committee did act affirmatively on a number of changes that I had previously sent them, but brothers and sisters and delegates to the coming convention, the above needs to be scrutinized very carefully. Let's not return to the past; certainly we should be enlightened enough to have learned from the past. Let's not blow it at this convention.

From the SecretaryTreasurer's Office From The SecretaryTre asurer' s Department Fraternal Activities Report May 21, 1984 Dear Members: We have some very good news to report - to you. The recently completed fraternal activities survey of local lodges shows substantial increases in fraternal activities and services and local fraternal expenditures. The reports definitely reflect a trend toward more community involvement and concern for others among our local lodges.

The fraternal activities survey of our local lodges is conducted annually in cooperation with the National Fraternal Congress of America (NFCA). The primary purpose of this survey is to gather facts and figures needed to present a complete picture of fraternal efforts accomplished on the local lodge level. The information from the survey is very important and will be used by the NFCA and this Society in providing data for legislators and other concerned groups.

We are indeed pleased at the improved participation of our local lodges in this survey. 107 out of 125 local lodges have returned their survey forms covering local lodge activities.

During 1983, our lodges held 6568 lodge and youth club meetings and socials, an increase of over 10% compared with the previous year.

The amount expended by the lodges on fraternal activities was $137,752.28 and the amount donated to benevolent and charitable causes was $120,858.30.

It was reported that our lodge members performed 32,330 acts of fraternal service, a 45% increase over the previous year. Additionally our members devoted 141,276 hours to fraternal and community service.

These facts and figures serve as evidence that our Society continues in its commitment to service basic needs. The figures are a tribute to the vitality of the SPJST and speak well of the quality of our local lodge involvement in the volunteer services movement. Despite the fact that government now plays an ever increasing role in each of our lives, we must continue to offer a very distinctive way to meet various human needs.

More than ever before, there is a need for each Fraternal Benefit Society to justify its state and federal tax exemptions and other areas of special treatment.

Community involvement and work in charitable areas will no doubt take on more importance each year.

It is gratifying to see that so many of our local lodges are very active in these areas as is demonstrated by the figures reported for 1983.

We thank those responsible in our local lodges for the time and effort required to gather the information for this survey. You can be certain that these facts and figures will be used many times during the coming year.

Yet, as it stands now, only one delegate from a household is paid mileage to and from the convention.

If buses or planes are taken, this is still in effect, only one from a household is paid mileage.

We all know that money should be saved in our Society but it should not be at the expense of our members. The. Bylaw Committee should consider this as after all, members are SPJST and should not be discriminated against in any way.

All should, be treated equally and as separate individuals.

This may not affect all delegates in this convention but at the next convention it may, as there will be more and more delegates selected from one household.

Proposals To The Bylaw Committee We would appreciate the Bylaw Committee reconsidering Article 5 which has an added addition section 4, which we would like deleted from Article 5 and in section 3, add at the end of section 3, mileage to be paid to all delegates.

Reason: Each delegate is an individual member, elected by their lodge as an individual member and not as a husband and wife team or father or mother and son or daughter team.

Each member pays lodge dues and insurance premiums as separate units. Each member contributes work at the local lodge level as individual members. Also, each delegate contributes on their own to the convention by studying the bylaws, voting on these bylaws and selecting officers for our Supreme Lodge, etc. This is all done as individual delegates not teams from a household. They are not chosen as delegates by the lodge just because others in the household were chosen. Each delegate is a delegate in his or her own right and should be treated equally in pay for their services at the convention and mileage to and from the convention.

Skrabanek Secretary Publications Committee Post Office Box 270 Caldwell, Texas 77836 Dear Melvin: In promoting SPJST membership and, in this particular case, the IRA programs, I visited with a retired professor from Texas A&M University. He exhibited great interest in the IRA program but requested of me proof of the solvency and financial standing of the SPJST. Lacking immediate access to the annual financial report, I presented him with two copies of the VESTNIK containing abbreviated financial statements.

In a follow-up contact, the professor expressed disbelief that an organization of the SPJST stature would permit itself to be represented by a publication of the quality he examined. Being a writer himself, he was very critical of the tabloid format, exhibited journalistic expertise, excessive use of the trivia and the inclusion, in part or whole, of articles from other publications of little or no interest to the reader. He noted in particular the lack of material related to activities of the home office, of Czech heritage, human interest articles on members and prominent people who in same manner was connected with the Society. Articles of this nature would be focal points.

At the conclusion of his prolonged argument to which I had the opportunity to add little, I had no choice but to agree with him.

I recommend that the Publication Committee or, preferably with the assistance of individuals having journalism training, review and bring before the forthcoming convention recommendations for a publication that would be an asset to the Society. It is time that the official organ cease to be an albatross to the Society by moving out of the horse and buggy days.

Victorick: When I attended the XXIII SPJST Convention in San Antonio as a visitor, Bro. Raymond Prasatik, delegate from Austin, pulled from his coat and showed me a letter from UT-Austin Liberal Arts Dean, Robert D. King, deploring the fact that not more students took Czech language and literature courses there.

Bro. Prasatik wondered what might be done to help the situation.

Since it was the last day of the convention, I suggested that a resolution might still do some good, if he would propose it to the delegates through the Resolutions Committee (during the time that exists during ballot counting).

The resolution was composed, proposed, read, and adopted by voice vote in the 6-12-80 morning session.

Although most delegates with whom I have checked remember the reso lution and its passage, it does not appear anywhere in the Convention Proceedings or the Bylaws book. For a text of the resolution, please see Enclosure 1.

If the resolution was misplaced or lost, that is carelessness which should be guarded against at the coming convention. If it was willfully left out or destroyed, that is an impeachable offense performed by only someone (1) who has a basic disagreement with the intent of the resolution, (2) who feels very powerful and arrogant and above the rules and laws of the order, and {3) who has or will "strike again". That, too, should be guarded against at the coming convention, or after the convention.

It is not my purpose to bother you with the question of why the resolution did not appear in print; instead my purpose is to propose the substance of the resolution as a bylaw recommendation for the coming convention, with the hope that it will be so approved and will carry even more "weight" than it would have as a resolution.

You would know best how to word it and where to insert it, but I would suggest that: On Page 25, In Article 33, Add as Number 11 the following statement: The Supreme Lodge will plan, provide, and conduct a leadership and activities program which will make available opportunities for all SPJST youth, and others to learn of the Czech heritage of the SPJST,

and the Czech language where desired, (To be effective immediately).

The PURPOSE of the SPJST on Page 2 also should be changed to show that the SPJST has other (noninsurance) purposes such as are shown above and in the PREAMBLE. I do not have a copy of the original letter from Dr. King which Bro. Prasatik showed me. It is very sad that a major state university enrolls so few Czech students. I do not know what the enrollments have been since 1980, but I understand they have continued as low if not worse.

It seems almost as though there were some sinister effort to encourage our youth not to study Czech. Does our rather extensive and expensive youth program not make available basic information about the Czech heritage. Once students in high school and college Czech courses learn of the almost charismatic nature of the Czech heritage, they are very eager to want to learn more about it and to learn at least the basics of the language.

Although we in the junior and community colleges may enroll more students than UT-Austin, we never really are sure that our classes will have enough for them to be taught.

Even at Temple Junior College where we have been teaching it since about 1967, we occasionally (1982-83) do not have classes to "make". During the 1983-84 school year, in a population center such as Dallas, when "everybody was giving them money to support it", neither East f ield or North Lake Community Colleges could enroll enough students for a class to "make". There were other such examples throughout the state.

Although the SPJST authorizes up to $8,000 annually (for which we thank you very much,) to support Czech classes in various ways, that money helps very little to get students into the classroom. What is needed is some kind of "feeder action" on the local lodge level which makes the student aware and proud of the Czech heritage of the SPJST and thereby makes him or her more interested in the various kinds of courses available for study of that heritage.

A program such as I am suggesting might be carried out as a part of the present SPJST Youth Program or in some more effective way, as the Supreme Lodge might determine to be the best approach for this.

The first thrust of this recommendation is obvious, but it also has implications for the future well-being if not survival of the SPJST. Wishing you much success for the coming convention, I am Fraternally, Calvin C. Chervenka Member SPJST Lodge 47 ***

18, Elgin Plans Western Days Lodge

President Morris Boutwell called our May meeting to order. Floyd Felfe led the Pledge of Allegiance.

Sister Doris Brian called the roll and one officer was absent. She also read the minutes that were accepted. All committee reports were given and accepted.

We had two visitors, Willie and Adeline Kohutek, of District II. We welcomed 4 new members, Mr. and Mrs. Donnie Cannon, Ruben Krieg and Jonathan Spaw.

President Boutwell thanked all those who helped at Mayfete to make it a tremendous success.

Brother Jack Raven is on the sick list. We hope you will be up and around soon.

Western Days will be held July 26th, 27th and 28th. Delegates are getting excited about the convention.

Brother Emil Mogoyne presented a check for $48.32 from recycled cans on behalf of Sister Albina Mogoyne.

Lodge 28, East Bernard Meeting Dear Members: June 3rd, Lodge Karel Jonas will hold its last pre-convention meeting.

With the convention being held during the week of June 17th, the agenda will focus on bylaw changes, standing committee reports with regular items being taken care of as quickly as possible. It is urged that those members, who wish to express their views and/or ask questions about these changes or reports, be present at the meeting. Father's Day will be honored.

The "Gathering" for the food and conversation will take place after the meeting.

The May meeting, on the 6th, was well attended. All reports were accepted as given. First discussions on bylaw changes were held. It was reported that all expenses, of the District VI meeting, were paid.

Several motions were made and passed to keep the lodge going.

The regular door prize was won by a guest Robery Romero. A second door prize, donated by A. J. "Tony" Kelner, was won by Sister Ann Luquette. Being food, she donated it to the social.

Mother's Day was observed with a special door prize donated by the lodge. There were several prizes donated by Sisters Frances Haverda, Julie Janik, Ann Luquette and Lil Nezval. Sister Haverda's prizes were won by Sisters Brdecka, Kortis and Janik. Sister Janik's prize was won by Sister Valigura.

Sister Nezval's prize was won by Sister Haverda. The lodge prize was won by Sister Srubar who in turn donated it to the Special Kitchen Fund.

Sisters Haverda, Janik, Srubar, Brdecka, Luquette and Nezval made the social a success with their donation of additional food and other items to add to those furnished by the lodge. Although not present, Sister Foytik sent in some needed supplies.

40 Awards Several Scholarships Lodge

Dear Vestnik Readers: The El Campo-Hillje Lodge 40 meeting was called to order by President James Kulcak at 7:30 p.m.

May 16, 1984. Following the Pledge of Allegiance, a minute of silent prayer, in tribute to our dear departed members was observed.

The roll was called by Secretary Laverne Bacak and all officers were present. The minutes of the last meeting were read, amended and then accepted.

A financial accounting of all bank accounts was presented by Treasurer Leona Macha. After paying a number of expenses, figures show we are doing well financially.

Financial Secretary Bill Goerig reports only one policy is not up-todate and will probably have to be cancelled.

New members voted on and accepted were Gabriel J. Kulhanek, James R. King and Edward E. Sohrt, Jr. President Kulcak invites any member who has a complaint about any SPJST business matter to please attend the monthly meetings, where all matters can be voiced and voted on by members present. This eliminates any misunderstandings in the future. We all know President Kulcak only works for the betterment of our organization.

A question was raised about hall rental and the problem was turned over to the Building Committee to come up with a recommendation.

Security is still required for all wedding dances.

President Kulcak will'be in charge of overseeing the building addition.

In case a major quick decision needs to be made, he has only to meet with two other members; hopefully this will solve any problems and speed work on the job.

8th Meeting For Lodge 87, Temple

SPJST Lodge 87 held their regular meeting Friday evening, May 11 at 7 p.m. with President Vlasta Jez presiding.

The lodge welcomed President Nick A. Morris and lovely wife Dorothy as special guests.

The lodge celebrated its 18th anniversary at present location by holding a barbecue. The cooks did an extra special job, the barbecue and food was delicious. Our special

thanks to all who prepared the food, it was enjoyed by all.

The meal was served before the business meeting.

Various reports were given and Mary Zatopek and Annie Plsek stated that light refreshments were to be served at the Friday, June 8th meeting at 7 p.m.

Our get-well wishes are extended to Emil Reznicek who is convalescing at home and others who may be convalescing.

We enjoyed seeing members at the last meeting who stopped by to see us.

88, Houston News Lodge

Dear Members: I waited until this morning (May 15) to write because last night was our monthly meeting.

I hope all the mothers had a nice Mother's Day as I had. My family went to the lake and Susan and I had a nice rest, she worked for seven nights in a row, so we slept most of the two mornings.

We had a nice attendance for our meeting. Sister Pearl Hanka asked that all of us bring pastry for the June 3rd "Homecoming With a Splash", also Mildred Holeman asked for groceries for the grocery boxes.

It seemed we had a good attendance for the Czech play; it looked like we had 400 persons present. We hope to have an English play in the fall.

The Dad's Club has cleaned and painted our outside tables and benches which looks so nice and they also will have a sale on wine at the June 3rd event. Let's do not forget June 3rd "Homecoming With A Splash" because there will be a beauty contest around the pool, so let's all make plans to be at Lodge 88 and have some fun; you know there will be something for everyone to enjoy!

It seems that Mrs. Rudy Dybala was to go home today with a new knee. Gus Sterling is in the hospital for tests. Good luck, Gus! Mr. Dunn is not feeling so good. Victor Janak is still in the VA Hospital. Also, Mrs. Dorothy Othold is in the hospital with a broken leg. Let's try to find time to call our shut-ins or go by to say "hello" and let them know that they are not forgotten.

Naomi Spencer gave me a note of their trip to include in my letter which explains it well. It follows: "About the middle of April for the past four years, Arnold and Naomi seemed to be drawn to Switzerland so that they would be able to enjoy the snow-covered Alps.

This year they flew again VIA Amsterdam into Zurich, but made Interlaken the hub from which they either sailed on the beautiful and colorful lakes or rode buses and trains across the country.

This trip varied just a little in that Arnold's sister, Melba Sheridan, of Angie, Louisiana, took the trip with us. Never having been there before, she became interested in what looked to her like a store-room of coo-coo clocks, watches and clocks. It

Wednesday, May 30, 1984—VESTMK/7 did not take us long to convince her that within two weeks time she would be seeing clocks in every belfry, clocks well-located in every station and watches of every description in show cases of impressive jewelry shops. In brief, she would be seeing more timepieces all over the country than she will ever see anywhere else again.

Might add that she took advantage of this opportunity — I just dare not reveal to what extent. This was a most exciting part of several days.

Besides this, taking advantage of the SWISS HOLIDAY CARD we were able to travel across the country, from one end to the other, seeing new areas which we missed on previous trips but again enjoying those familiar to us. To name a few: one can bask in the sun valley of Grindelwald and view the snowcovered mountains with cable-cars riding to Yungfrau; the five hour trip by rail to Montreaux through areas which looked like there was no bottom when you viewed gorges along the roads, and hill sides blocked off with vineyards for miles.

This time we went to Zermott to see the Matterhorn, the tallest peak on the continent.

We later transferred our headquarters to Engleberg from which we took one hour rail trips to the nearby city of Lucern which seems to be the mecca for tourists as they wander through the famous covered bridge, through the boulevards and stopping for snacks and very good food at the side-walk cafes. Here, you are reminded that the country of Switzerland is a land of sidewalk cafes, wall-to-wall skiers and unlimited means of transportation whether you are roughing it or pampering yourself in comfort.

I could ramble on and on but I am surprised that I have not given up long before this point simply because it is much easier to visit this beautiful country than to describe its many contributions to pleasure."

Lodge 107 held its regular meeting at 5 p.m. May 20, 1984. The meeting was called to order by President Bayer.

Alvin Hrna has been on the sick list for quite a while. Helen Bayer has her ups and downs following heart surgery. We wish both of them a speedy recovery. We miss them and hope they will be back with us soon.

We had one guest, Mrs. Louise Kow. Secretary Netek reported that plans for our Song/Dance Festival, which will be held September 16 at Comanche Park for the benefit of the Child Abuse Program, is almost completed and the complete report will be given in the July meeting.

The project is a well-worth effort and we are asking all the Czech communities in San Antonio to reach out and give us your lending hand.

June une 10 Meeting For Lodge 142

Lodge Treasurer Viola Mazac (left) is wishing Sister Lucille Duglosh a "Happy Birthday" at Lodge 133 in San Antonio.

Lodge 133 had their monthly meeting May 20 at the hall located at 1505 S. Gevers Street. The meeting was called to order by President Matula at 2 p.m.

The membership recited the Pledge of Allegiance and also a moment of silence was held in memory of our departed members.

Roll call of officers indicated that all were present. Minutes of the last meeting were approved as read, so was the treasurer's report which was given by Sister Viola Mazac.

President Matula thanked the members for coming out to attend the Public Service Weatherization program. We had more than 36 members present.

It was a worthwhile program and Brother Matula thanked everyone for attending.

Brother Trilicek gave a report on the Entertainment Fund which was very encouraging. Sister Kleprlik reported that there were no wedding anniversaries for the month of May. Sister Popp reported that there were plenty refreshments for everyone and, hoped all would enjoy them.

On the sick list, we still have Sister Dorothy Valka, who is at home but under doctor's care.

Brother August Blanar is in the hospital for a gall bladder operation.

Sister Lillian Clauss is in the Medical Center Hospital. Brother Ed Kapplemann is also in the hospital. We wish all of them a speedy recovery and we missed all of you at the meeting. We hope to see you all at the next meeting which will be July 8th. There will be NO MEETING IN JUNE, due to the convention that will be held in Corpus,Christi.

Our regular monthly meeting was called to order by President Mary Ann Kieschnick at 2 p.m.; at this meeting we celebrated the 65th anniversary of our Lodge 142, Houston. After the meeting we had refreshments and a delicious fried chicken dinner with all the trimmings.

We had 62 members and guests present who started our meeting by standing and reciting the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. All of us remained standing for a few moments of silence in memory of our departed Sister Bessie Marie Silhan, who died in Florida; and Brother Herbert Kieschnick, who was the father of our Board Chairman, Robert Kieschnick and father-in-law of our President Mary Ann Kieschnick. Brother Herbert Kiesch nick has, in previous years and when his health was better, served as vice president for several years. We must accept this as a great loss to our lodge. May they rest in peace.

Roll call of officers was held and all were present, except Guide Frank Tumis.

Secretary Alice Jochen read the minutes from the previous meeting which stood approved as read.

In correspondence we had an acknowledgement for the sympathy card to the Herbert Kieschnick family.

All officers' and board and bar reports were given.

The board recommended, effective immediately, that the youngest member in our meeting will receive $5. This is for one time for a member only. The youngest member at our May 6th (anniversary meeting) was little 2-year-old Kevin Hermis. Congratulations!

Sick members were Michael Tumis and Rosie Schilhab. We hope that all our members are much better at this time.

Refund checks were read by Sister Rosie Tumis.

We had visitors Mr. and Mrs. Valka, Lillie Kahanek and R. E. Yates who were welcomed at the meeting.

For new business we had Board Chairman Brother Robert Kieschnick to speak about our lodge that has been approached with a proposition to buy our lodge home property. This will be a decision of our membership if we want to sell

and then would need to purchase another site for our lodge home.

This will be decided upon in our next regular monthly meeting for June 10, 1984 at 2 p.m. MEMBERS PLEASE BE PRESENT FOR THIS IMPORTANT MEETING. Brother Sidon and Sister Rosie Tumis donated the first keg of beer for our anniversary social following our meeting which was in conjunction with their 38th wedding anniversary May 7th. Thanks for your generosity, and many more happy anniversaries to both of you!

Capsule Drawing: Mary J. Witzkoski was absent for $30; the next meeting attendance prize goes to $35. All members please come to this IMPORTANT MEETING and you may be the winner.

A thank you note was read from the March of Dimes thanking the members for the donation.

Edward Bartek thanked the lodge and members for the use of the lodge for the Academy High School Athletic banquet.

Bruce Tomastik gave the Board of Trustees' report. Susan Johnson asked for a donation to help purchase land for a little league ball park. Otis Beck asked to have a benefit for Toney Calacino (a local boy who was in a car accident).

News From Lodge 180, Burleson President Louis Groschoske opened our regular monthly meeting at 7:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 15th with Bob Newton leading six members in the Pledge of Allegiance.

A moment of silence was observed for our departed Brother Leroy Hampton and all our departed brothers and sisters.

Minutes of the previous meeting were approved as read by Secretary Cindy Hampton. All other officers made their reports.

Lodge No. 180 expresses our sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family of Leroy Hamilton on the sudden death of their husband, father and grandfather. His leadership, his light banter and booming voice will be missed by all. Our prayers are with you. May our brother rest in'peace.

Our firemen's benefit was a marginal success; would that more could have attended a worthy cause!

The terrific reception on the TV is due to the antenna Leo and Oleta Keating donated to the lodge.

News From Lodge 184, Mid-Cities

Latest

The regular monthly meeting was held Sunday, May 20th. All reports were read and approved.

A discussion was held about hall rentals and prices to be charged in the future and who would be in charge of handling them. All rentals will be handled by Lambert Pustejovsky (817) 275-7086 or Danie Roz novsky (214) 252-6763; contact one of these members if you wish to rent the hall for your party, you will need to put a deposit and sign a written contract in order to hold the date you wish to have. The lodge needs to do this in order to keep from having conflicting dates in the future.

Last year the lodge voted to give all high school graduates, who are members, $50, it has been amended to include college graduates. This year there are two high school graduates and two college graduates.

Graduating from high school are Kevin Roznos and Thomas Pustejovsky each will receive $50 and graduating from college are Kim Boyle and Steve Roznos each will receive a $50 gift.

Steve Roznos is graduating from Northwood Institute in Cedar Hill and has received a baseball scholarship to UTA. Congratulations to Steve!

Kim Boyle will be getting married June 2nd to Kenneth Collins at 11 a.m. at the Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 2100 North Davis in Arlington, Texas; the dinner reception will be at 6 p.m. at the SPJST Lodge 183, 3100 Pleasant Valley Lane. Our lodge members send their best wishes to this young couple.

Three new adult members were voted on and approved, namely: Matthew Foresberg, Katherine Bell and Jill Doll, and one junior member was approved.

Mary Ann Roznovsky wishes to thank all of you members who sent flowers, cards, prayers, and telephone calls during her stay in the hospital; she is at home now and doing very well.

Since so many officers and some of the members plan to go to the convention in Corpus Christi in June, it was voted to cancel the regular meeting at the lodge hall for the month of June and as many members who can make it to go to the convention and learn more about this great fraternal organization of SPJST and perhaps understand better why is has grown so fast in the past.

The next regular lodge meeting at the lodge hall will be the second Sunday, July 8th, so members mark your calendar and be there and, those of you, who could not be at the convention can hear what happened.

Perhaps you parents already know that nowadays a good conversationalist is anyone who can talk louder than the hi-fi.

Friendship Club of Fort Worth Dear Members and Friends, The May 2nd meeting was called to order by President Marie Tesar with 21 members present and guests, Mary and Benny Pavey. We made welcome new members Bessie Brizina, Ruby Jones and Agnes Reznicek.

The birthday members were Mollie Sladovnik and my mother, Frances Tirk who will be 84 years of age the 31st of May. We wish to thank Mary Kubala and Rosie Steinman in their generosity for the handmade place mats and the four seasonal wall plaques donated to the club to be used for drawing prizes. Maria Prill was the lucky winner of the place mats and I, Lydia Alholm, was winner of the wall plaques.

We are looking forward to having Mary Kubala as a regular member since she has retired from working at the Northwest Hospital.

The club members will attend the Omni Theater located in the Ft. Worth Museum of Science and History June 6th. The luncheon will be served about 11:00 a.m. and afterwards members and guests will car pool to the museum in order to see the film Fly" at the 1:00 p.m. showing.

Frank and Jo Prochaska and their son, Frankie and his wife, Janet, have recently returned from a trip to Banff, Canada.

We would like to express best wishes to Mr. Bill Renfro who is now recuperating from surgery on May 15th. We also wish him a speedy recovery.

Other correspondence was on speedreading courses, Rent-a-Car services, and from the Dallas Chamber of Commerce listing their guest speakers available.

Bertha Malik, membership chairman, gave a report on those sisters who sent in their dues. She also stated that a few have resigned due to moving, etc.

Sunshine Chairman Adelle Vlk reported she mailed 14 Easter Cards to sisters in nursing homes and those confined at home. She sent "Get Well" cards to Gilbert Kalich, Phil Reames, and Helen VrIa. Libbie Elsik, gifts to sick chairman, reported that Bertha Posihrasky had been hospitalized.

Bessie Kalich thanked Bessie Reames for her donation of cards.

Mary Sebestik, hostess chairman, named the hostesses for this month's luncheon: Helen Vrla, Sr., Helen Vrla, Jr., Rose Parma, Elaine Skrabanek, Pat Wilson, Marilyn Fulbright and Kathy Pottkotter.

Dorothy Reznik stated that her letter would be late because of the pre-convention news coming out in the Vestnik.

The following announcements were made: Czech Culture meeting June 25th and the Dallas-Ennis Fraternal Council meeting May 16th at the SPJST Lodge 84 HaIl in Dallas.

Zdenka Skotak informed us that Sister Hamusek would be very happy if some of us would give her a phone call sometimes to cheer her up. She gets lonely at times and would certainly welcome a call from a member of our Circle.

Our Year Book has been printed and can be purchased from Bessie Kalich for $1.00.

Vlasta Jurcik reported on the Fourth of July Picnic that is held yearly at Sokol Zizka. It will most likely be a covered dish affair this year. Our members thought this would be a good idea.

In the June issue of McCall's Needle Craft Magazine an ornament made by Millie Noska was shown.

The wording was as fo/lows: "Here is just one of ten delightful Nutcracker Ornaments stitched by Millie Noska." As we all know Millie is very creative and we know she is deserving of this article.

Before adjourning our meeting we sang a song, "Cerveny gatee'ek."

Dorothy Reznik led the singing with music on tape. Sister Skotak suggested we sing at our meetings and it seems the sisters enjoyed this.

Antonio Czech Education/Cultural Foundation Re-Organized San

The San Antonio Czech Foundation, which was dormant for the past year, has come out very much alive today. One of the main purposes of this foundation is to help the new arrivals from Czechoslovakia. There are many of these people in placement centers throughout Europe.

This foundation is always looking for someone to sponsor, either an individual or a family. These people come here with no knowledge of our English language; it is a very difficult time for them.

A school has been set up for them where they can attend school in the evenings; most of them do find work, but it is not easy to find anymore.

We must give them a helping hand which is only human.

The foundation will have a Czech Celebration January 6, 1985 which is already in the planning stages and it will involve the whole Czech community and many others. Shiner, Texas and other Czech communities, please be informed if you can use any help in your business because you can easily commumcate with these people. It is a good chance that you could help them as well as they can help you.

Temple Junior College Temple, Texas Dear Bro. Editor and Members: When the college spring semester ends and I have time, I like to write some for the VESTNIK, especially in convention years.

I originally had planned to comment on certain matters in the Pre-Convention Reports printed in the April 18 issue. Since we have had several endorsement/testimonial-type letters in recent issues, however, I decided to express my views concerning that timely topic.

"Political-Type" Letters In view of your editorial in the May 16 issue, I am sure that you were concerned as to whether or not these letters were political and if you should print them.

When you printed them and later received the critical telephone calls, you mentioned you probably wondered if you had made the right decision.

Since By-Law 103(b) apparently does not pertain to "internal SPJST political activity", I do not think you could use that as a basis not to print them. The delegates may wish to address themselves to this by-law at the coming convention.

Wisdom of the People For a moment you may have been concerned about such things as balance, fairness, good-taste, solicited, unsolicited, and "overkill".

But then you probably realized that most people these days are very well informed, very perceptive, very discerning, and generally quite capable of thinking for themselves.

Sometimes the surface reaction of people to certain campaign tactics may first show itself as politeness, apathy, disgust, cynicism, or open criticism; but their wisdom usually shows up in the ballot box, whether a candidate is running for congress or a seat on the local school board.

Altogether, I think you made a newsman's good judgement call; because these letters show better, than anyone could say in words, the concerns, feelings, fears, and general temperment of the SPJST members, especially delegates, approximately one month before the convention. "Something is in the air" and it is different from most former convention years.

In the "political-type" letters and references I have seen to date, the endorsements referred to the growth and progress of the SPJST and relied rather heavily on such general attributes of the candidates as family background, education, leadership, working as a team member, and Czech language ability.

I suggest that the delegates examine each of the three presidential candidates rather specifically with respect to each of the following: Family Background Although it may be interesting and a good motivating factor to be from a pioneer family with a long genealogical pedigree, it is tradition in this country that we judge a person by his own character, namely his principles, his statements, and his actions.

There are many examples of persons who have risen above the level of their socio-economic "background" and others who have fallen

below the level of their 'background".

I think our three presidential candidates all have good family backgrounds. How do their characters compare?

Education Education becomes increasingly more important for each successive generation and we probably all could use more education to lead more productive and happier lives. Also remember that education may be gained in a school or by experience.

One can use education for legal or illegal purposes (there are prisoners with college degrees); for unfair social and business advantages (diabolical planning); for unfair or excessive financial and/or political gain (abuse of office); for personal glory (to satisfy ego); or to be a worthy citizen of his or her community and to be of service to his or her fellow man (professional and fraternal ethic). I think our three presidential candidates have good educations. How have they used them?

Growth and Progress Although it certainly appears that there has been considerable growth of the SPJST in recent years, just to be sure, we should take a critical look at all the criteria which determine our real, net success.

Some such criteria are the percentagewise comparisons of all significant indicators with other leading fraternal and stock companies, corrections for inflation rates, new programs, increased services for our members, and the public image of the organization among the people.

Leadership Real success is the result of (1) creative leadership, which thinks of the right things to do at the right times, and (2) a lot of hard work to carry out these right programs and activities.

It is pretty obvious that the hard work of execution in the SPJST has been outstanding on the state, district, and local lodge levels; and the creative ideas of the collective leadership appear to have been good.

To find out where our most productive leadership is, let us each list the top ten things that we feel have helped to make the greatest successes of the SPJST sifice the last convention. Then let us obtain answers to these questions. In what department, committee, or office did these ideas originate; who first -.suggested them; and did the proper persons get the credit for them?

Compare your answers. Discuss them with your leaders to get the right answers.

Our future leaders must not only be technicians and professionals in insurance and fraternal work, but they also must be individual thinkers and planners; collectively, they must be in effect, a "think tank". Of course, they must never lose "touch" with the people (members).

Working as a Team It has been stated that our SPJST leadership works as a team and that it is essential for continued success.

Also it is true that reasonable people disagree, and there is bound to be some disagreement at times.

Czech Language Ability Czech language ability is often stressed in the race for the president; and that is of considerable significance, but not an overriding issue. Delegates should be on the lookout that it not be made into an emotional issue and used to overshadow more important issues.

I do not know exactly the present, real Czech language capability of the three candidates for president; and even though I have taught Czech, I would hate to have to try to determine and compare those capabilities.

I expect that they all wish that they knew more and had greater opportunities to study and use it.

That is the predominant feeling among many middle-aged Texans of Czech descent.

Even though a person spoke Czech as a child, they soon forget it if they do not use it regularly.

However, like playing a musical instrument or typing, it comes back with increased practice and opportunity for usage.

What I think is most important to the SPJST and the delegates is the true feeling and intent of those candidates concerning the Czech heritage of the SPJST. Will they really be proud of it, perpetuate it; or will they simply pay "lip service" to it. What have been the opportunities of each of the candidates along these lines. Why have almost all major positive activities regarding the Czech heritage (language instruction included) come as mandates from the delegates in convention?

How Can The Delegates Decide Unfortunately the delegates cannot go behind the scenes and get answers to many of the questions I have posed. However, they can study the reports, listen to the dis cussions, and ask questions of those who know the answers first hand.

Also, they can judge the candidates on their performance in whatever they have had an opportunity and have tried to do. Could they have done more? What was their .objective in doing what they did? Did they do just the glamour jobs or did they take the thankless jobs, too?

It appears that we have three qualified, experienced and sincere candidates for the presidency of the SPJST for the next four years.

After almost 16 years we know reasonably well what the incumbent is likely to do if kept in office. What can each of the other be expected to do?

Since all three candidates have been active to a considerable degree in some phase of the SPJST, then a considerable number of people have had an opportunity to work with them and to know how they might be expected to fit into the president's office.

Why are they seeking the office?

Do they need the work and salary; or do they perceive a need for a change? If a change is needed, is it to provide new ideas and/or to correct some existing problems within the organization, or both?

Summary I do not know if my letter has been any consolation or support for your position, Brother Sefcik,

because all I have done is ask more questions; but then, that is really what I hope the delegates will do before and at the coming convention.

The leaders of District I met before the spring meeting April 29 at Lodge 39, Bryan for their 'training class. The lodges were well represented.

July 1 —YAD Cards Due to DYC July 22 —YAD at Lodge 186, Caldwell (More details later) August 12 —State YAD/Royalty at Temple Please mark these dates on your calendar and plan to attend.

The 1984 Youth Club year is almost at an end and I am very pleased with the progress each youth club has made. This is evident in the number of camp applications I have received (almost 100).

Here is a list of things you need to bring to camp: 1) Bedding: sheet, pillow/pillow case, light cover (Sleeping bags are ideal) 2)3 or 4 changes of clothes 3) Jeans and socks for horseback riding 4)Swimsuit and beach towel 5) Towel, wash cloth, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, etc.

6)Flashlight (if you have one) 7) Comfortable shoes (tennis shoes) 8)Costume for party Note: I don't think fans will be necessary because we are camping earlier and there are large fans in each cabin.

CLUB VISITS ZOO

Dear Members, May 19th Lodge 39 Youth Club took a trip to the Houston Zoo and Museum. We rode in vans to the zoo and then saw all the animals. We rode a train at the zoo and we all got soaking wet. What fun! We also visited the museum. I liked the dinosaur skeletons. Thanks to our Youth Leader Renea Macik for planning such a fun-day.

ALFRED HEJL,

who passed away 26 April 1984 in Seaton at the age of 69.

Brother Hejl was born in Bell County and had lived there all his life. He was a member of the Seaton Brethren Church and the SPJST Lodge 47, Seaton. He retired from farming and carpentry in 1978.

Services for Brother Hejl were held at 2 p.m. April 29 with the Rev. Eugene Kotrla officiating. Burial was at Seaton Cemetery.

Brother Hejl was married to Ella Chupik of Temple 8 September 1936.

who passed away Saturday, April 28, 1984 in a Galveston hospital at the age of 64.

Brother Green was born in Bell County and had been a lifelong resident of the area. He was the owner and operator of Green's Sausage House in Zabeikville at the time of his death.

He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and was a third and fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.

He helped organize and was president of the East Bell County Water Supply. He was vice president of the Central Texas Water Supply.

In addition to his other activities, he helped organize the Perpetual Care Fund of the St. Joseph's Cemetery and was a member of the Temple Elk's Club.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Jerome Green of Zabcikville; four daughters, Mrs. Josephine Psencik of Temple, Mrs. Henrietta Miller of Temple, Mrs. Florence Mikeska of Rogers, Mrs. Corrine Madeley of Morgan's Point; two sons, Marven Green of Temple and Charles Green of Zabcikville; a brother, W. H. Green of Temple; 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Green.

In lieu of flowers the family requested that memorials be made to the St. Joseph's Catholic Church Cemetery.

Services were held at 2 p.m.

Monday, April 30 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Cyclone with Father Harry Bilski officiating.

Sister Marek was a member of

Sister Marek and her husband have served as ticket chairpersons for 21/2 years and helped with lodge activities where help was needed.

Sister Sharon was Director of Auxiliary Services at T.S.T.I. at the time of her death. She had previously been employed by the Parks and Recreation Dept., of the city of Waco. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, a member of Linden Lodge for 25 years. She had been an active member of the Youth Club. She was SPJST Lodge 66 Queen in 1961, and was selected as Queen candidate of District III, for the 1964 Convention of SPJST. Sister Sharon was a life long resident of Waco, she graduated from Reicher Catholic High School and Durham's Business College.

She is survived by her husband, Bruce of Waco, one daughter Lara; her parents Darlene and Bennie Engelke; one brother, John Engelke, and one nephew, Justin Allen Engelke all of Waco.

An Invitation To The Scasta Reunion The Scasta reunion will be held Sunday, June 10, 1984 at the Wheelock Community Center in Wheelock, Texas. Relatives and friends are invited to attend this reunion and kindly bring enough food for your family and guests to be served at noon.

This will be our 70th anniversary of the family gathering; the first reunion was held in Bryan at the American Legion Hall. Therefore, make plans to attend. I know transportation is much easier and faster than in the olden days.

Our oldest sister, Christine, passed away August 26th at the age of 95 years. We miss her and we hope she is resting easy. We will also miss her at the reunion. There are six more living in the family of

12 and some day we will follow her in our retired age.

The Scasta Family: Let us be proud of our pioneers who laid a foundation and made a tremendous progress in everyone's occupation; how proud our father would be if he were alive because he believed in progress and now we live in luxury and push buttons. Will this comfort last forever? Will air, oil and water last forever? Probably the unborn generations will invent new methods to get all of these things from some other place.

While I was visiting my son in New Mexico, a kind lady brought me a Reader's Digest and in large print in it was that the sun will quit shining in 1980 that cycles and gives light which will quit shining and the world will quit rotating; in darkness nothing will grow.

Let us be proud of our forefathers that tremendous progress is made from their foundation.

Let us be proud of our forefathers who gave us freedom and liberty.

NETEK'S FIRST FAMILY REUNION The family of Leo Netek from Corpus Christi, Texas will have their first reunion July 7, 1984 at the Community Hall in Robstown, Texas.

The celebration will begin with Holy Mass, offered for the loved ones who have departed and also for the living members.

In the afternoon activities will consist of getting to know each other; as in all large families, there are many relatives who have not met each other; expected are some from Midland, Lubbock, Houston, San Angelo, San Antonio, etc. Everone is asked to bring pictures of their families or any pictures they may have that are related to the Netek family. (In the enclosed picture is the Leo Netek family that was taken in December 1946 at the family home.)

Leo Netek's first wife, Mary Kranavek Netek (mother of his 10 children), died at the age of 39 after giving birth to Christine 20 December 1926. Mr. Netek was left with 10 children, the oldest being 29 years old.

In 1929 he remarried and married Anna Svatek Netek from Shiner, Texas. They had two children, Frances and Emil.

Leo Netek came to America in 1903 and settled in the Corn Hill area, worked at the country store and also farmed there.

In 1906 he married and, in 1914, he moved his family to Corpus Christi, where he farmed throughout his life.

He was 19 years old when he left his hometown, Svebohov, Czechoslovakia (in northern Moravia). He returned to Czechoslovakia for a visit when he was 84 years old. His relatives from Czechoslovakia correspond with the families in America. ***

TROJACEK REUNION The Trojacek family reunion will be held Sunday, August 12, 1984 at the Sokol Gymnastic Center in Ennis, 11/2 miles east of Ennis on Hwy 34. Activities will begin at 11 a.m.; dinner will be served at noon; music to a live band will be from about 3 to 5 p.m. The charge will be $4 per family and $2 per single person. Funds collected will go towards gym rental, music and kitchen supplies such as tea, coffee, plates, cups, etc. Each family is asked to bring enough meat, salad and dessert for their family. 3Ó. Května 1984 Texas se zšeínš zvedat a stále více továren a obchodů přibývá, že?

Právě nyní vyšla zpráva, zě rodina toho mladého hocha, který loni byl zabit na tom stroji který se jmenuje "gondola" na státní výstavě, obdržela zprávu, že obdrží celkem prý mezi 20 až 30 milionů dolarů jako odškodné za jeho smrt v říjnu 1983.

Jeden syn byl zabit a druhý.poraněn a budou jistou sumu peněz dostávat každý měsíc. Letos ale ten stroj nebude provozovat své let:y ve vzduchu dokud nebude uznán, že je opraven a úplně bezpečný.

Firma která sestavila stroj v Německu bude tedy muset pracovat dobře na tom aby se nestalo zase někdy něco tak smutného jako loni..

Dnes jeden člověk na televizi se vyslovil, že podobné lety ve vzduchu jsou mnohdy velmi nebezpečné a leccos se může přihodit, a výstavy a podobné zábavné obchody budou asi muset počkat nějaký ešs než se to urovná s těmi stroji.

Zde v našem městě je nyní stávka uniových tesařů a nikdo neví kdy to ukončí a jak to dopadne. Stavby na některých místech které se ; připravují pro nastávající konvenci v srpnu, je též stávka těch tesařů a je potřeba aby se vše brzy ukončilo, a práce se dokončila než bude konvence.

Mnozí říkají, že následkem toho.iže moc lidí se sem stěhuje odjinud, takže tito trěba vezmou práci za mnohem laciněji než ti unioví pracovníci, a stavitele chtí utržit více peněz a vezmou je a pak je ovšem zle. Snad se to nějak vyřídí.

Smother Flames Cooking is one of the major causes of fire deaths in the home. If a fire starts in a pan while you're cooking, the National Safety Council says to place a lid_at least as large as the burning pan over the flame. The lid will smother the fire. Then turn off the burner and allow the pan to cool before removing it from the burner.
